I need to report an issue. After bringing my Jeep in for a minor muffler noise, the dealership contacted me and informed me that the vehicle would not start. They suggested it could be related to the diesel fuel, but they were unable to identify the exact cause. To rule this out, I contacted the city to have the fuel from the gas station tested, and no contamination was found. This was the same station where I had filled up the day before. Additionally, I had already driven the Jeep approximately 80 miles prior to leaving it at the dealership, which further indicates the fuel was not the issue. The dealership proceeded to drain about three-quarters of the diesel from the tank, emptied it completely, and replaced the bottom fuel lines. However, the problem persisted. They then replaced the fuel pump, but even after that, the issue continued. Eventually, they determined that the fuel pump itself was defective. Importantly, this is the same fuel pump that had already been replaced once before under recall. please let me know if you need evidence. I have all the email from city and more txt , etc.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the clutch had failed. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle had previously been included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V116000 (Power Train); for the clutch, and the remedy, which involved replacing the clutch, had been completed. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was no longer under the recall. The dealer was waiting for the technician and the manufacturer to confirm if the vehicle would be covered under warranty and whether the parts would be provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 49,500.

On [XXX], traveling at the speed limit of 70mph, crossing from Illinois to Indiana my Rear Locker engaged light came on, on the dashboard. I immediately pressed the disengage button... The warning light came on, flashing, but never indicated that the rear locker was disengaged. I then immediately pulled over the vehicle at a safe location. Where i tried unsuccessfully to disengage the locker... I ended up turning the vehicle off, waiting a few minutes, and then turning it back on. The warning light did not initially turn back on. Three more times on the way back on that day, it did turn back on. The third time it never did turn off. I performed a few tests to make sure the Locker was not actually engaged. However, the system continues to tell me that the Rear Locker is engaged. Even though it is not engaged... I'm concerned that the control system for the Rear locker is compromised and poses a substantial risk to drive on the highway in its current condition. STEERING

When traveling around 35-40 mph and a bump or dip in the road (think manhole cover) is hit by either the left or right wheel an extreme wobble and vibration in the steering column occurs. This will last 5-15 seconds until it works itself out. Research on the internet indicates that this is a common problem called a “death wobble”. The concern is that this may cause loss of control resulting in crash. This is an unmodified jeep gladiator bought new at the dealership with all mopar parts. When speaking to the dealership they do not acknowledge that this is an known problem and state that they cannot reproduce the issue. Which is reproducible as I have done it. Since this is a widely reported issue on the internet I believe this to be a severe safety issue that needs to be fixed by jeep. I do have video of one of the many incidents and can provide upon request.

Driving down the highway and the steering wheel locked up. When I started to slow down to stop the steering came back. This could have been a really bad problem if I was turning.
Oct 10, 2025
At highway speed the front suspension and steering wheel begin to shake violently after hitting a bump. This happens between 65 and 75 mph and I must slow to around 45 for it to stop. This is a well known problem with these jeeps and is referred to as "the jeep death wobble". I took it to the dealership for inspection under warranty and they found nothing wrong. 2 weeks later it did it 3 times on a short trip down expressway.

Violent side-to-side movement of the front end “Death wobble” when driving over a bump at a certain speed. This is my 2nd Jeep, but my 2013 Wrangler also had the same issue. From my experience, this is a consistent issue with Wranglers / Gladiators that should be investigated and / or addressed with free repairs or extended warranties.
Mar 03, 2025
Occasionally, while driving on normal roads, my steering wheel locks up completely when I am changing lanes or accelerating. This issue typically resolves only when I reduce my speed to around 20-30 mph. Details: - The problem occurs intermittently and without warning. - No warning lights or error messages appear on the dashboard when this happens. - I have already taken the vehicle to the dealership, but they were unable to identify the cause after performing several checks.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated that while driving 20-25 MPH, the instrument panel became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. Upon research, the contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V652000 (Electrical System). The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that parts were on back order, but the odometer had to be ordered and recalibrated to prevent tampering. The contact checked the fuses, and the fuses were in good condition. The manufacturer was contacted, but there was a language barrier. The failure mileage was approximately 36,600.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle in the morning, the instrument cluster was black. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle several times to reset the instrument cluster; however, the failure persisted. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V652000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

After returning from errand about a 20 minute drive, the vehicle was parked and turned off. A short time later we saw smoke coming from the hood and realized the vehicle was on fire. The fire was on the passenger side towards the front of the engine compartment. Looks like an electrical fire that started near the power steering pump/wiring.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle independently shifted to neutral(N), with the engine still running. The contact pulled off the roadway and was able to stop and shift into park(P). The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and shifted to drive(D) and continued driving to the residence. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but was a recurring failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the CAN-C BUSS had tripped due to loosened connections, causing the transmission to shift to neutral(N). The dealer advised that replacing the CAN-C BUSS connections would loosen again and the failure would reoccur. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

This is a known issue with Jeep Gladiators and Wranglers. It’s called the “Death Wobble”. While driving at highway speed(70mph), I hit a bump which caused the entire vehicle to shake including the steering wheel. Once I braked and got the speed below 60 mph, the shaking ceased. This happened close to ten times on the particular 3 hour drive. I knew this was a possibility to happen since my son also has a Gladiator and it happened to his vehicle. It’s so prevalent there are YouTube videos out there showing it happening. This should be a recall.
Jan 13, 2025
Death wobble started at 55 mph, with no warning. No warning lights and no warning codes were found. Death wobble started a second time at 70 mph with the same results. This is the third time that this has occurred. Vehicle has never been off road, is a complete factory stock vehicle, with proper tire rotation schedule based on manufacture and dealership service department.

when driving at a high rate of speed typically 70-75 mph on an interstate, the entire vehicle will randomly start violently shaking this is typically triggered when the vehicle hits a bump or a overpass transition on the road. You have to hit the brakes and slow down to at least 45 before the shaking will stop and you can resume driving again. I was between two semi one time this happened. There are no warning lights or indicators. This first happened in Nov 2022, I have had this inoected by the dealership multiple times. They replaced the steering stabilizer in Jan 2023 I had no further issues until June 2023 when it started happening again. It is currently at the dealership again. They said they can’t test drive it above 60 so they can’t duplicate the problem . I have video of one of the incidents.

Ran over a small bump at highway speeds almost lost control as the front end started to wobble and shaking steering wheel. Every time I go over a bridge span or a small bump going freeway speeds front end shakes and have to slow down for wobbling to stop.

When at highway speeds 50+mph, and I hit a bump, vehicle begins to shake in varying degrees of severity. Slowing down, stopping completely, or something another bump will stop the shaking. Vehicle is stock, not alterations have been made. Has been brought to the attention of service techs at Olathe Jeep. Informed issue may be with steering stabilizer, part on back order. Noticed issue at 5000 miles. Has been ongoing for months, no resolution.

ENGINE

Component Affected: Engine – Camshaft and Rocker Arms Summary of the Problem: My 2022 Jeep Gladiator experienced a failure of the camshaft and rocker arms due to scoring on the camshaft. This issue occurred at approximately 52,000 miles. The vehicle is currently inoperable (on and off flashing check engine light) Dealership gave me the vehicle back to drive while awating parts for repair. The required components are on national backorder with an estimated delay of over 4 weeks, leaving me without a functioning/safe vehicle. Safety Concern: This failure occurred without warning and could have led to a dangerous situation if it had happened while towing. I use this vehicle to tow a 3,500 lb camper, which is well within its rated towing capacity (6,500 lbs). The sudden loss of engine performance could pose a serious safety risk, especially on highways or in remote areas. Additional Notes: I am reporting this issue because I have learned that other Jeep Gladiator owners have experienced similar camshaft and rocker arm failures. This may indicate a broader defect in the engine design or materials. I believe this issue warrants investigation for potential recall or manufacturer accountability.

I am filing a safety complaint concerning my [Year] Jeep Gladiator (VIN: [Insert VIN]), which has experienced two high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failures—the latest occurring on [XXX]. This issue is directly related to the Jeep HPFP recall previously issued in 2023. After the first HPFP failure, the fuel system—including the pump, injectors, fuel lines, rails, filter, and tank—was replaced under warranty using Jeep’s reengineered HPFP component. The vehicle then sat at the dealership for five months awaiting parts and repair. Jeep also issued a compensation check, which I accepted based on the belief that the reengineered pump was a permanent fix. However, the same failure occurred again on [XXX], requiring a nearly identical replacement of the full fuel system. The recurrence of this failure, even after the “fix” Jeep implemented through the recall, raises serious concerns about the reliability and safety of the reengineered HPFP. I am concerned this is a systemic design flaw that has not been resolved. To date, my vehicle has been out of service for extended periods, and these failures could result in engine stalling, fuel leakage, or loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Jeep has not provided adequate assurance that the reengineered part will prevent future failures. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the reengineered HPFP provided through the recall is effective and whether additional action is needed to protect consumers. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The engine turned off while driving multiple times. Unexpected loss of engine power while at highway speeds forced us to maneuver to shoulder on busy highway in 70 mph zone. The dealership service team has not been able to reproduce the event or confirm it happened. The dealership service team inspected the vehicle. There were no warnings, lights, or symptoms before or after, that would have indicated the engine power loss event to us before or after the event occurred, in any of the occurrences.

Snow builds up on the LED headlights and fog lights, rendering them useless when driving at night.
Jan 13, 2024
While driving in snowy conditions, snow built up in front of the headlights, blocking them. I had to stop multiple times to sweep the snow out from the socket the headlight is recessed into to get light to project onto thr road. These are the factory LED headlights, which do not produce enough heat to melt the snow, unlike halogen headlights. Not having lights while driving in the snow is scary, as is having to stop in poor conditions on the side of the road. The lights need to be heated or shielded in some way to prevent this from happening.
Jan 13, 2024
When driving in snowy conditions at night the LED headlights and driving lights do not put off enough heat to keep the headlights cleared of snow. This results in the snow packing in the headlight area disbursing light in every direction but straight ahead. The snow coming at you as you drive is thus lit up but there is not enough light emitted forward to light the road. Driving around 30 mph yields a light only a couple of feet in front of the vehicle. This creates a very dangerous condition.

My vehicle has just under 45,000. While driving at freeway speeds I hit a small bump in the road. The vehicle front end wobbled until I slowed back down under 50 mph. This happened 3 times on the same trip. I immediately took it in to a dealer for repair. It is known as a "Death Wobble". The problem was a steering damper had failed. There are other Jeep models that have the same designed front end and have active TSBS for this exact issue. When searching Jeep forums online it is widely considered a problem for the Jeep Gladiator.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced the death wobble and briefly vibrated and swayed from side to side. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the steering dampener. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then diagnosed failures with all four shocks and steering rods. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked and shifted aggressively. The vehicle would rev and jerked forward. The contact mentioned the failure occurred for several weeks. On a most recent occasion, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and making a right turn, the contact heard an abnormal snap coming from the front of the vehicle causing control of the vehicle to be lost. The contact mentioned that the front tires were inwards and the front axle fractured. As a result, the contact crashed into the truck and the vehicle came to a stop. A police report was filed. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was then towed to a collision center where it was diagnosed that the axle and front passenger fender flare needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

We have 2 2022 Jeep vehicles with the EcoDiesel engines in them (a Gladiator and Wrangler) that we purchased in 2022. I am filing a case for each of them on this site. In April 2023 there was a recall of the fuel pump on the 3.0 EcoDiesel and to date the problem has not been rectified for either of my vehicles. We have made notification to the dealership that we want to get this done but they say they do not have the parts in stock to do it. The dealership said they only get 1 fuel pump a month to replace and we are waiting and have been waiting for about a year since we notified the dealership for this safety issue to be rectified. I am filing this complaint as directed by the NHTSA website because I feel this issue has not been handled in a timely fashion and I believe that it is irresponsible of Jeep to not rectify this in a much quicker fashion. Each time we call the dealership we are told they do not know when it will be rectified.

Drove the vehicle approx 18 miles to work in the morning. The vehicle sat parked, locked and secured in a corporate office lot visible from office. Left for the day and as I started to drive began to smell gasoline. Looked for a gas trail and didn’t see it. Continued to drive and occasionally would smell gas. When I arrived at home, looked in the engine bay and it was dry. Looked underneath and saw that the passenger side undercarriage was dripping with gas. So much the fumes filled the garage and began to move into the house. Parked the vehicle on the street and contacted local dealership. Dealership via phone said only appt is approx more than 2 weeks out and couldn’t give an answer what would happen if the vehicle was brought in and or towed in. I explained the safety aspects of an active fuel leak and they still couldn’t find a way to make an appointment. The next morning a small plate sized leak of fuel as on the asphalt directly under passenger side (where fuel tank is). Vehicle hesitated when starting, when it finally did I looked for active fuel spilling and could not locate. I began to drive to dealership. At one one point when I stopped for a long red light the smell of fuel was overwhelming. Arrived at dealership where you could and smell gas. Went into office and again was told that with out an appointment that was over two weeks out nothing could be done. Again explained the safety aspect of an active fuel leak and was blankly looked at and then told the only appt is more than 2 weeks out. Finally asked for supervisor and they said that it could be left but wouldn’t be seen for 4-5 days. They rented me a vehicle and boldly stated that “if” the cause of the defect wasn’t done by aftermarket parts or vandalism then they would contact jeep to see if the vehicle could be repaired under warranty. This was stated several times. The vehicle is 2 years old and has approx 19000 miles on it. No aftermarket fuel or engine parts have been installed and there was no

Parking brake cable adjustment nut loosened itself, which caused park brake cable to fall out of connector underneath center console, causing park/emergency brake to completely fail. I reinstalled cable into bracket, set adjustment nut to manufacturer specification, and the park brake worked properly again. A few weeks later the adjustment nut once again loosened itself, causing the cable to dislodge and causing the park brake to fail once again. At this point I replaced the lock nut with an aftermarket fastener and brake is once again working as designed.

I went outside to check and saw flames coming from the passenger side of the car. I got the hose to put the fire out, and my neighbor called 911. The flames grew quickly and were growing. Soon the flames were on both sides of the car. Both the police and fire department arrived. The fire report indicates that the fire started in the engine area of the car. The car is now in the possession of my insurance company. My safety and the safety of others was at risk due to the fire. I was burned on my arm, neck and head. The car was completely burned. My insurance carrier inspected the car. The fire department said the fire started in the engine area. My insurance company conducted a preliminary inspection and determined that the fire started in the engine area. The vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer (Chrysler Jeep by Bosch Automotive Service Solutions), the police, the fire department and a representative from my insurance company. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

In the early afternoon hours of July 5, 2024, our 2022 jeep gladiator rubicon with only 18,000 miles spontaneously combusted in our driveway after being parked there for just under 24 hours. While working in the yard, my husband noticed thick black smoke coming from the engine. The smoke quickly turned into flames then rapidly intensified as it spread throughout the engine, cabin and then ultimately the entire jeep. The jeep was a total and complete loss with Jeep claiming no responsibility whatsoever. We have over $60,000 in damages to our home, driveway, landscaping and soil (PFAS) from the fire, NOT including the jeep itself. Note *The engine light did go on about a month prior to the fire, which from what we were told by Jeep service dept, was due to multiple misfires. This issue was resolved immediately. After the fire, the jeep was inspected by our insurance company and also by Jeep. Because the fire was so intense and quickly spread, there wasn’t anything left. Jeep never returned our calls and never once tried to make things right! Our safety was at risk for obvious reasons. The Jeep spontaneously started on fire due to no fault of our own. Had we not have been home, or had the Jeep been parked in our garage, facing the garage or the fire started at night while we were sleeping, the outcome would have been quite different. The damage it DID do to our property along with the mental anxiety and stress of trying to pay for repairs is significant enough without actually having our house burn down to the ground. This is unacceptable! Jeep needs to take responsibility!

POWER TRAIN,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) failed while I was entering a downhill curve on a paved but narrow mountain road with no shoulder. The HPFP had been under an active recall, (Y78 / NHTSA 21V-880) but every time we went in for service our Jeep dealership said a remedy was not yet available. When I asked if it was safe to drive, they said yes, continue to drive the vehicle and that they would call us when a remedy became available. Not very sage advice. The failure happened while we were on vacation in a remote area of New Mexico, four hours away from home. An unrecognizable warning light flashed but did not remain on. The engine remained running, but the HPFP failure caused a complete loss of power to the engine and transmission. Steering became difficult. I gently braked and coasted to a safe spot. Luckily that spot was a forest service road about a quarter of a mile from where the Jeep lost power. We had the vehicle towed to the nearest Jeep Dealership. They confirmed that the HPFP failed. It took 2 months for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCA), and that dealership to address the HPFP issue. At the end of 2 months, they called and said the vehicle was fixed and ready. While driving home from the dealership a check engine light came on. That was [XXX]. We had the vehicle towed to our local Jeep dealership. Our dealership checked and said that there were still metal shavings in the fuel system. Our dealership and FCA have not found a solution and our Jeep is still inoperable and setting at the dealership. I took my vehicle(2022 Jeep Gladiator)in for service on [XXX] for repair relating to a clutch recall 19A/NHTSA 23V-116, also a second E-Brake repair(previous repair was completed under the 36k mile warranty), oil change, inspection and tire rotation. The part for the recall was order and the replacement part for the recall was installed by Marburger Chrysler, Dodge Jeep, Ram Dealership(Shelby, North Carolina) about a week later. During the test drive by the certified mechanic, the new clutch failed rendering my vehicle inoperable and unsafe to drive. As of today, August 13, 2024, the part to repair my vehicle and fix for my vehicle is not available and my Jeep Gladiator has been parked at the dealership for almost three months. The dealership and manufacturer have failed and been unable to provide reliable remedy for my vehicle. I have been notified by the dealership that a remedy is currently unavailable for my vehicle. I have also contacted the recall center for JEEP and they contacted the dealership on July 30, 2024. The dealership and JEEP were unable to provide a remedy for the fix on my safety recall. Warning lights come up on the dashboard often (brake failure, airbag failure, steering failure, start/stop needs servicing, transmission needs servicing, pullover safely car will turn off, car not in park but it is and won’t turn off) the car turns itself on and off all day. From the beginning the vehicle had electrical issues, not connecting to my phone or Bluetooth, the screen not working, locking and unlocking only working from the key not using the passive entry and having to start the push button by pushing it with the key or it wouldn’t work, it’s gotten progressively worse and now mid drive it will slam to a stop like it hit a wall, flash all the system failure lights then just all the instrument panel lights, it turns on the windshield wipers, the hazards do not work, the headlights start flashing independently etc. it will not turn off or on. It has been towed to the shop twice for this where they replace the two batteries/fuse array and say they can’t get it to happen again but see the codes on the box. It’s spent a combined 140+ days in the shop at this point where I have to fight days to get a rental. The slamming to a stop mid drive is so harsh not only am I almost rear ended but also it’s torn my shoulder forming a cyst that I’ve had trigger point shots and physical therapy for and might need surgery yet they still refuse to buy it back. I have videos.

AIR BAGS
1 complaint
I had a collision incident with my car and an electric pole that broke in half. The airbag did not deploy at all and liberty mutual had deemed my car totaled after having it evaluated at 2020 Auto Body. I had contacted Jeep to complain about safety in regards to what I think is a defected airbag and they had asked me to send photos of my Jeep after the incident. And without asking how fast I was going and having everything based on the photo, Jeep states they will not do any further investigation because based on the photos the deceleration of my car during the incident was not enough to deploy the air bag. I tried to ask them multiple times to email me an explanation of how they determined that the airbag is not defected based on the photos I sent and have not gotten a response except that the case was closed. They refused to email an explanation and would only want to schedule a phone call to explain. I told them I rather have it email for documentation purposes. I am reporting this airbag deployment incident because of safety concerns. STEERING,WHEELS
1 complaint
Heavy vibration in steering wheel when hit bumps at highway speeds. This started in Nov 2022 when the Jeep was 5 months old. The dealer replaced the steering damper under warranty. It happened again in the summer of 2023. The steering damper was replaced again. It continues to happen and is now at the dealer for the fifth time with the same issue. The dealership confirms the condition reported each time. They do not know how to fix it and suggest new tires as the Bridgestones that came on the vehicle may be causing this issue. No modifications were made to any of these components. It has the original suspension and tires that came with it when purchased new in June 2022.

The vehicle is factory stock with 30,000 miles on it. At highway speeds it experiences what is referred to as the "Jeep Death Wobble" - the vehicle and steering wheel shake violently until I reduce speed to below 50 mph. It is difficult to control and slowing rapidly on the highway is additionally dangerous. It is at a Jeep dealer, but they only want to change the steering dampner. This part is not a real fix - something is loose or not property aligned to cause the shaking. The dampner is a temporary fix that addresses the symptom, not the cause of the shaking. I feel Jeep is not adequately addressing the issue or taking it seriously.

My 2022 Gladiator with only 2700 miles on it locked up at a stop light. Every light on the dash was blinking, and the wipers came on. I couldn’t move the shifter, or turn the Jeep back on. Hazard lights would not come on initially. Not being able to move the vehicle or turn on hazard lights on a busy 6 lane road was extremely scary. I have never had a vehicle do anything like this before. I had it towed to the dealership. I explained what happened and they had never heard of this before. I have read of it happening on social sites and forums. I feel uncomfortable driving it even if they repair it. I bought this vehicle less than 60 days ago as of this message.

The subject Jeep Gladiator was involved in a side impact collision on June 18th, 2022. During the collision, the rear seat belts did not lock resulting in two children colliding with the rear of the two front seats. The side impact airbags did not deploy despite the impact being quite severe. The front airbags did deploy despite there being no impact to the front of the vehicle. Both the seat belts failing and the lack of side impact airbag deployment presents a safety hazard to the rear occupants of the vehicle in the event of a crash. The front airbags deploying without the requisite impact presents a safety hazard to front occupants of the vehicle. The seat belts still will not lock with any amount of pressure. The dealer will not discuss the issue and the insurance company, through a repair shop, currently has possession of the Jeep. There was no warning of any kind that the seat belts would not lock and the airbags would not deploy/deploy.
