Our car overheated because of a faulty thermostat leaving us on the side of the road stranded with kids in the car. We had to have the car towed.

n early January 2025, we purchased 2024 Jeep Wagoneer L that began displaying check engine warnings and experiencing significant performance issues within the first week. The vehicle was brought into the dealership (Golling Jeep in Bloomfield Hills, MI) on multiple occasions—first on January 22nd and again on February 7, 2025—for drivetrain-related concerns, including rough idling, and warning lights. The vehicle was returned after temporary fixes, but the issues quickly recurred. On February 21, 2025, the vehicle was returned to the dealership and has remained there ever since. Despite repeated diagnostic and repair attempts over the last five months, the dealership has been unable to resolve the issue. As of July 2, 2025, their latest communication indicates that a complete engine replacement may be required. The symptoms included drivability issues and engine malfunction indicator lights. The vehicle’s reliability deteriorated to the point where we felt unsafe using it for family transportation, especially on highways or long trips. The issue has been inspected and repeatedly confirmed by certified dealership technicians. The vehicle is available for inspection. There were no reported accidents or injuries, but the repeated and unresolved engine issues present a clear risk to occupant safety and undermine vehicle performance. This ongoing situation has rendered the vehicle inoperable for over 150 days while under warranty, with no final resolution provided.

While driving my kids to school on the freeway I received an alert telling me that my engine was overheating! I was barely given any warning of the rising temperature to allow myself to pull over safely. It never informed me it was rising, only when it was redlined near the max engine temp to which I had to immediately find a place to pull over. I didn't have enough time to get to the next exit 1 mile away, and had to pull over in an unsafe area and turn the car off until the engine cooled down while cars whizzed by us. Once cooled down enough, I was able to drive 1 mile to the next freeway exit but had to immediately pull over again into a center median as it was again overheating very quickly. My local dealership came to get the car and took my kids to school and me home while they inspected it and found a failing thermostat and water pump. I have only had the vehicle for 9 months and it only has 15,800 miles! This should not happen, at all, on a $135,000 vehicle. I also happened to notice a failing battery (no audio warning of this) on the display while scrolling through the menu looking for the engine temperature! So a brand new car has a failing battery, thermostat and heat pump..... unbelievable.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
1 complaint
The vehicle has ongoing electrical and battery system problems that cause safety and driver-assistance systems to malfunction or shut off unexpectedly. The vehicle has repeatedly been found dead after short periods of non-use, requiring jump starts and battery replacement. These electrical issues appear to affect multiple vehicle systems simultaneously. While driving, advanced safety features such as lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and proximity-based warning systems shut off, become unavailable, or behave inconsistently without warning. In some cases, warning messages appear and then clear on their own, while the affected safety systems remain disabled. At other times, the systems deactivate without any clear alert. The manufacturer and dealer have acknowledged battery drain and electrical instability, but instead of permanently repairing the underlying problem, certain features were disabled to reduce battery draw. These include proximity-related features and other driver alerts. Disabling safety and warning systems does not correct the defect and creates an unsafe condition where the driver cannot rely on the vehicle’s advertised safety features to function consistently. Because these systems disable themselves or are intentionally disabled due to unresolved electrical issues, the vehicle cannot be relied upon to provide continuous lane-keeping assistance, collision warnings, or adaptive cruise functions. The failures are unpredictable and occur during normal operation, creating a safety risk to occupants and other drivers.

The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The contact stated that intermittently, the back-over prevention camera and navigational system froze, the speedometer was blank, and the air conditioner was inoperable. The contact stated that the Uconnect 5 infotainment system was inoperable. The navigational system continued to be frozen and was buffering for an hour at times. The vehicle had shut down on multiple occasions but restarted. The app indicated the vehicle needed to be serviced. The key fob became inoperable; the driver was unable to lock and unlock the vehicle. There were unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who connected the computer, but there were no codes retrieved, and was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact sent an email and videos. The manufacturer was contacted, who opened and closed several cases. The failure mileage was approximately 132.

The vehicle in question, has been to a certified jeep dealer twice, to remedy the problem of locking axles and the center differential. The remedy by Crown CDJR in Columbus OH, was to replace the control module. Performance CDJR of Gorgesville /Columbus OH had removed the center differential/transfer case for an inspection and performed updates. None of the aforementioned warranty work, fixed the problem. The vehicle has intermittent, apparent drivetrain differential locking issues, that require an ignition cycle. In addition, the electronic limited slip rear axle appears to lock near 75% in Auto and Snow Mode, which renders the vehicle's operation unsafe. This is especially apparent in 25 to 45 MPH turns, sharp turns, as when merging from one intersection to a perpendicular other roadway. The car wants to go straight on slippery/wet pavement. On the 25th of November, a video was taken, by chance, when the vehicle was merging onto Easton Way from the off ramp of 270 North. The vehicle / car had a near miss of colliding with the concrete barrier of the Easton Way bridge. The vehicle is, in its current state, unsafe! The drivetrain growls and grinds while driving at low speeds. Performance CDJR of Gorgesville Columbus OH admitted, on the record , via audio recording, that the vehicle is defective, but eventually, after three weeks in their service department released, the vehicle to my pregnant wife, as operating as intended.

This issue happened 3 times in a matter of 2 months. All 3 happened in 3 different intersections. While turning left in the intersection (oncoming traffic also turning left) the vehicle jerks to a full stop in the middle of the intersection with a "Crash Detected" message flashing on the dashboard screen. The vehicle stayed in DRIVE and continued to drive after full stop the first 2 incidents. On the 3rd incident, the vehicle stopped completely, and would not continue to drive. The vehicle had to be put into park (even though it said it was in drive but did not drive) and put into drive again to continue moving. Other vehicles driving behind the Grand Wagoneer were required to slam on brakes to prevent impact of the Grand Wagoneer and had to wait for the Grand Wagoneer to begin driving again. Unable to drive this vehicle due to safety issues. The vehicle is currently in the shop under investigation.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I recently purchased the vehicle in May 2025. It was a dealer car from original purchase. One month after purchasing [June 2025] the vehicle the car would not start. I called in roadside assistance to jump start the car. I took the car to a Jeep dealership for servicing. They recommended replacing both batteries. They mentioned one of the batteries were not an original. This must mean the dealer who owned and sold me the vehicle was aware of the battery issue. In late July, little over one month the vehicle would not start. I call for roadside assistance again. I dropped vehicle with dealership. I called two days later, and they could not discover the problem. They suggested I leave the vehicle for up to three weeks. This would give them sufficient time to attempt to discover the cause of the battery drainage. This is the first time I am experiencing any short coming from purchasing a vehicle since I started purchasing cars. I am hoping a resolution has been discovered for the battery drainage issue for the 2024 Grand Wagoneer.
