While driving home from a wedding with a passenger in my car, the engine for my Jeep Patriot stalled several times. The car would come to a stop and was difficult to control when the stalling occurred, putting both myself and my passenger at risk of a traffic accident. The car was towed to an independent service center which documented in their reports the engine stalling repeatedly. This independent service center was not able to alleviate the issue despite replacing the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. I then took the car to my local Jeep dealership, which performed further repairs on the crankshaft sensor and wiring harnesses, thereby resolving the problem. The vehicle and components were not inspected by any other parties to my knowledge. There were no warning lights or prior indication that the engine was about to stall, adding to the danger associated with this incident.

My son was driving his vehicle on the interstate in Florida when all of the sudden engine stopped working. He was able to navigate to the side and eventually it started up and made back to campus. Codes had came up so took to Firestone and changed spark plugs. We checked NHTSA website for engine recalls and showed had some but not for his specific vehicle per VIN. Only sounded a little better so took to Jeep dealership and paid for diagnostic evaluation and told “alternator falling apart” but nothing wrong with engine or transmission. They changed a belt Dealership also said no recall for his particular vehicle. Problem continued so took to local mechanism who replaced alternator and a good bit better. So between 8/20/25-8/26/25, he took car to 3 repair shops that couldn’t find the problem completely. Then on [XXX] while driving on interstate, son saw smoke then fire coming from under hood. Car caught on fire. Was able to pull over and call 911 who had fire department put out fire. He survived fire but emotionally a wreak. While attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. In addition, the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number 16V907000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); in 2017; however, the failure reoccurred. Additionally, the battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,500.

There was safety recall -S89 on the 2016 Jeep Patriots - seems my vehicle was not affected however I have had to have it replaced 3 times - Aug 2021, November 2022 and again November 2024. Shouldn't this vehicle been part of the recall? If so, am I able to recoup any of the repair fees that I have paid?

THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Last night was the 3rd time my family's safety was threatened by a malfunction in my 2016 Jeep Patriot (manual). When driving, the car started to stall out as if I'm changing gears badly, but wasn't doing so. Next, it stalled completely without any dashlight notices. I was forced to pop it out of gear to give some control to the steering (something I learned after the 1st time it happened). Then, I coasted to the side of the road while maneuvering moving traffic! The 1st 2 times this happened I was in local traffic and it almost caused an accident. Last night, I was in the center of I95 with rushing traffic. Terrifying! Each time the car has had to be towed and the crankshaft sensor has been the culprit. It is in the shop today (June 1, 2024) and that's the problem again! The dealership says the recall on Jeep Patriot crankshaft is not for my vehicle. Please help.

I kept getting a check engine light on my dash even after taking it in for oil changes in the past year on and off and none of them caught what seemed to be the main issue. The check engine light would disappear once I got the oil change. I assumed everything was fine around April 2023, until December 2023 and apparently my check engine light turned back on. Finally after going to at least 4 more different auto shops I took it by Autozone to look at it again. Autozone claimed my code meant that my catalytic converter needed to be looked at or replaced. Now I never got a recall for it, but I did see that there has been several issues across the board about Patriot owners needing theirs to be replaced. That’s costly and it should’ve been replaced free of charge. My vehicle has been in optimal before this and I do keep up proper maintenance on my vehicle.

The car will stall while driving, making it tough to keep on the road and very dangerous for a crash. After taking to a Jeep dealership, it was determined the issue is associated with Safety Recall S89 / NHTSA 16V-907 regarding the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. Unfortunately, my car's VIN was not listed under the recall. I believe this was a mistake as it matches the exact description of car under the recall (This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 2.0L (sales code ECN or ECT) or 2.4L (sales code ED3 or ED7) engine built from May 08, 2016 through July 12, 2016 (MDH 050800 through 071216).

Had Recall “fixed” just to have the supposedly fixed crankshaft sensor go bad and randomly stall when driving. They then say it was repaired even though it is having the same reason from the first recall. The fix is having intermittent electrical failure which causes it to stall with no warning no matter what speed you are going. It happened when I was going 20 and turning and again when I was on the highway driving 70. This is going to cause an accident. They said since the recall was already repaired I’m responsible for it

While driving my vehicle on the highway the car turned off and I was unable to steer and/or turn the car back on. After I managed to get to the side of the road and then I managed to get it re-started. I took it to the dealership as it had a check engine light. The crankshaft electrical had thrown a code and I was advised to not drive my vehicle due to safety issues of the car "turning off" again without warning and that it could cause a crash. There were no previous warnings from my vehicle prior to this incident. I was given information from the Service Advisor for Chrysler recall S89-NHTSA 16V-907 but he stated that my vehicle didn't have that recall attached to it. The service advisor told me to report the issue to the NHTSA to get my vehicle inspected as he feels it should be included in the recall.

My Jeep began having a few second stall and restart while driving randomly late 2020. I’m the last 6 months it stalls for longer periods of time but I initially was able to put it in neutral and restart it. About 4 months ago it became more and more difficult to start after I would be forced to pull to the side of the road with no power, hard steering and hard brakes. The check engine light came on at one point. I called the dealership and it was suggested that I take the Jeep in. The diagnostic code indicated the crankshaft position sensor (P0339). But the check engine light wasn’t flashing and it was late in the afternoon so I had to make an appointment to take it back. After 4 days the check engine light went off. The stalling just got very frequent. I would put it in park and turn the ignition repeatedly and after several minutes it would regain power. Just over 1 month ago it stalled in the middle of a busy intersection during afternoon rush hour. It had to be pushed out of the intersection. After more than 10 minutes of continued ignition turns it started and I made it 3 blocks to home and parked it. I had it towed to the same dealership 5 days ago. The crankshaft position sensor has to be replaced. I’ve done research over the last 48 hours and found there was a recall for some 2016 Jeep Patriots for the crankshaft position sensor because it was a safety problem. I’ve checked my VIN number and there has been no recall for this on my vehicle. However, my Jeep Patriot is a 2016 with the exact same problem the the recall was initiated for. Please help me with this if you’re able to. I don’t know where else to turn.

The driver headrest deployed without being in an accident. Took my vehicle to Phillips Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealership on November 24, 2025 and the associate informed of the recalls/warranty I have. The invoice comment from the dealership "Performed inspection driver side front headrest has failed cannot replace due to part being discontinued." This results in driving a vehicle that is unsafe. I spoke with Chrysler hotline regarding the issue 12/2, 12/3, 12/8, 12/17 and was given a case # 94878288 which was closed without the problem being fixed/repaired. Just trying to get this issue resolved while the part is a recall and covered through the warranty.

This vehicle had an air bag indicator light come on. After taking it to the dealer for diagnosis. It has a Restraint System Control Module that has quit responding and as a result has no Restraints that are operable. The part has been on order for over a month and the latest update from Chrysler says there is no ETA available due to the global microchip shortage. I am driving the vehicle out of necessity, but consider it unsafe.

While driving my 2016 Jeep Patriot on multiple occasions, the engine suddenly shuts off without warning. After shutting off the car would also have alot of issues restarting. I finally took it to multiple mechanics and they all indicated they couldn't find out exactly what was the problem, given nothing showed up on their diagnostics testing's. After the car finally wouldn't start anymore, i got it towed to the dealership and they diagnosed the car with failed crankshaft sensor (which has already been recalled on a chunk of the 2016 Jeep patriots manufactured).

CAMSHAFT and CRANKSHAFT position sensors keep failing. I have gotten these replaced at a local auto shop 4 times in the 3 years I've had the vehicle. Each time they're replaced the PCM is flashed but issue comes back a couple days to a week later either when coming to a stop at an intersection or when driving up to 50 miles per hour, the acceleration doesn't work properly and RPMS shoot down to zero and back up. Car has also shut off when coming to a stop under 5 MPH and sometimes starts up again. Engine light and TCS light both come on when either sensor fails, car runs rough or doesn't start resulting in a tow to a shop. This is a huge safety risk and can cause a crash at any time. VIN does not have recall, but has all the issues described in the recall.

The check engine light came on. Checked it at an AutoZone. The error code was P0335, crankshaft position sensor. On the way to my mechanic, my vehicle stalled three time in 2 miles and had to pull over to a side. I felt lucky there were no vehicles behind me. Took it to a repair shop and the mechanic scanned it again. He told me to take it to a dealer because after entering my VIN, he was notified by his computer system that there is a recall notice out for this VIN. (S89) Called a Chrysler dealer but was told that there is no recall by the VIN. Called Chrysler corp and explained the situation. The rep said since the basic warranty expired, the repair service will not be covered under the recall. The engine was keep stalling and I had to repair the vehicle at the mechanics shop. Replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the harness assembly. After the repair, the problem no longer exists. Cost of repair totals $410.

On several different occasions my car has stalled in traffic and idled down for I couldn't drive had to pull over and turn it off and turn it back on to go again the check engine light then stability light will come on. Camshaft code I have fixed the cam and crankshaft sensors first time then it failed again so I changed them a second time now it's failed again .I almost got rear-ended a couple times very dangerous. Now my step button on the steering wheel and the horn quit working all of a sudden. I found out on the site of mopar that it is the electrical connector and terminal both cam sensors and crank sensors on certain vin numbers,all 2016 jeep patriots should have been included as others are having the same issues. I cannot afford to keep on putting money into this problem. This can be confirmed by my mechanic which replaced it twice. The dates this has happened are April 2023 worked for awhile then February 2024 happened again changed cam and crank sensors again. April 16 started failing again, limp mode have to pull over turn engine off turn it back on to go again. Every week at first now every few days. Engine light then traction stability light can't go over 10 miles per hour, pull over turn engine off turn it back on stability light goes off but engine light stays on for a day goes off the next day. I do not feel safe driving long distance anywhere and this can wear down your engine and vehicle life. I bought this car paid a lot of money for it for the comfort of knowing I would have something Dependable in my old age and can not keep on putting money into a problem that should have been on the recall list also. It only has 115,000 miles on it. I'm going to the Jeep dealer next week to see if Mopar can resolve this and pay for this issue. Also this happens if you're going 1 to 55 miles per hour reverse or forward doesn't matter.

I have a 2016 jeep patriot that I purchased with very little miles on it used. Starting about 2 weeks ago I had an incident on the highway going 60mph and it just shut off and lost all power for a few seconds and started back up on its own. When this happened my steering got hard, brakes didnt work properly and could not accelerate. Was very scary and has been doing it more frequently now. This is a serious safety hazard for myself and others around me. I saw that there is a recall s89 for this model but mine is not within the dates and this makes no sense as it is the exact same problem. I ask that you respectfully reissue this recall to include a wider range of dates. Not to mention it is a fairly expensive repair that has to be done and should be taken care of by the manufacturer.

I received an alert on my insurance portal, that my vehicle type ( Jeep Patriot 2016) had a recall, S89 for the camshaft and crankshaft sensors . I noticed that my vehicle has the same issues that is caused by this recall. My vehicle has been stalling and the check engine light when off recently. I had it looked at and the obd reader displayed that there were misfires displaying in the cylinder and issues connected to the camshaft and crank shaft sensor at. I called the recall line but they stated it wasn’t associated with my specific car but I feel like my vehicle should be included in this recall due to the exact issue I am experiencing that is listed in the recall. My vin is [XXX] . I feel I should be included and the issues are causing potential safety risks when driving. While operating the Vehicle up to 45 MPH the engine will stall, but the car remains on. The wheel locks and pushing on the pedal does not work. I usually turn on my hazard lights on turn the car off and back on. By doing so, someone may not be paying attention and slam into the back of my vehicle and I have held up traffic because of this issue. After restarting the car drives and operates normally. I would also like to report shuddering, and jerking while driving at any speeds.

I was driving to work and noticed that I wasn't getting any power when I accelerated from being stoped at a stop sign and when I got to another stop sign it felt like the brakes where still on for a few secs then the car stalled on ne. I Crunk it up and drove about 3 more miles and the car started overheating so I pulled over and shut it off and waited for it to cool down. It hasn't been able to crank since I shut it off. I've checked my fluid and other minor trouble shooting. No luck.

It started acting up Feb 1, 2020 not long after I bought it (Nov 8 2019). It would work, then it wouldn't. It is a hazard to drive because it stalls out or chugs along at a snail's pace until you can pull off the road to shut it down and restart it hoping it accelerates. It is still an issue (Aug 2022). I have not been able to drive it for 2 years even though I am still paying on it because it is just not safe for myself or others on the road. It is a hazard all the way around. I keep checking for recalls, but the sites say there are none. However, finally there may be a ray of hope in solving this awful mess. I just got an email last week from CarComplaints.com about this same issue. It listed the 2016 Jeep Patriot as having that issue and being recalled. The Manufactured dates listed there are May 9, 2016 to July 15, 2016. My door sticker says build date 7-16 MDH 071000 486AA. How do I get this looked at and fixed under the recall? I have NOT driven it since August 26, 2020. It is now Aug 7, 2022. I am still paying on this and can't drive it because it is unsafe to travel anywhere chugging along and being a hazard. The passenger-side active headrest on my 2016 Jeep Patriot deployed randomly while I was driving. There was no warning prior to the incident. The plastic surrounding the pin broke away and caused the front cushion of the headrest to spring forward. If someone had been sitting in the passenger seat, they could have been struck in the back of the head, and if the driver's seat were to deploy in this manner, it could have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The headrest has not been inspected by a dealer or service center, but the cause is clearly visible. The problem occurred suddenly and without warning.

No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while her fiancé was driving at an undisclosed speed, the failure reoccurred with the driver's side head restraint. The contact's fiancé did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle had not yet been taken to an independent mechanic or a local dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The clips that hold the active headrest together broke and the headrest sprung forward. It cannot be reset closed because of the broken pieces. This car has never been in an accident of any kind.

The crankshaft or cam shaft sensor is malfunctioning and my engine stalls while I am driving. This has happened about 10 times now. I found a recall for this issue on 2016 Jeep Patriots, but my VIN does not come up with any recalls. I believe this recall needs to be expanded.

I've had my car since January 2022. Since last year, there's been a clicking noise once I begin driving & it'll click for awhile. For these past 3 months my check engine light has came on. The message from O'Reilly's read "Evaporative Emissions System Small Leak Detected." The 1st time I was told to get the Emissions System Cleaner. The light went off. Second month, light came back on with the same message. This time I was told to buy a new gas cap. I did, light never went off. I bought the advance emissions cleaner & the light went off. This being month 3, light came on again June 2nd. Again told to get gas cap, I did & light never went off. Last week Tuesday, getting on the freeway, I accelerated as I got over 5 lanes. When I got to Lane 3, my car jerked & by the time I got to the 5th lane, my vehicle started decelerating, with my traction control light coming on. I pulled over, being on the left side of the freeway. Turned my car off then restarted it and it wouldn't drive though my foot was on the gas pedal. Turned off then back on after a bit and it started driving slow then stopped, turning it off. Sat for a bit longer then started her again. Drove on the shoulder to get a clearance to get to the other side, by the time I got to Lane 3 the car started decelerating again & the traction light came back on. While trying to be safe, I managed to get over the last 2 lanes and had to stop now on the right shoulder of the freeway. Turned it off. Sat for awhile and started it back up so I can get to the next exit. I drove the shoulder & even at a slower speed the car shut off again. Traction light came on each time it decelerate. Sat again for another while. And this time when I turned it back on, it started shaking which I immediately turned it off! I had to get towed. I researched, there's a recall for the time frame my vehicle was manufactured, which was May 2016 for the crankshaft senor causing the engine to stall, which never got fixed on its Carfax I have.

After filling up vehicle (not overfilled) it stalls when I come to a stop or slow down for a turn. This just started today after filling up from the same fuel station I always use. The Jeep restarts after a few seconds after turning it completely off.

A recall has been issued on 2016 Jeep Patriots that are VIN specific (S89). However even though our vehicle was included in the manufacturing dates, it was not included on the recall. I had to pay out of pocket to replace the camshaft/crankshaft sensor. The vehicle was constantly stalling out on my daughter while driving the vehicle which shut off the power steering and brakes. This was a very dangerous situation and I paid to get it repaired. I think that the recall should include my vehicle and I should get reimbursed for my payment.

A recall has been issued on 2016 Jeep Patriots that are VIN specific (recall S89). However even though our vehicle was included in the manufacturing dates portion of the recall, it was not included in the VIN specific portion. The vehicle is doing the exact things that are included in the recall - it constantly stalls while driving on the interstate or in town. Shutting down the engine totally and then making it where the power steering and brakes do not function and is an extreme dangerous situation for a female driver to try and control and restart the vehicle without getting in an accident. I feel that my vehicle should be included in this recall and that Jeep should repair my vehicle free of charge. I would hate for someone to get injured for not including this vehicle in a recall that is only VIN specific.

To whom it may concern I purchased a 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport on May 21 2022, the vehicle since date of purchase has been stalling at acceleration speeds of 65 MPH, as well as in reverse while parking while idle at stop light and stop sign upon stalling NO warning lamp has been present. I have contacted multiple jeep dealerships upon getting a diagnostic for this matter as well as recalls, I was told by jeep by customer service that they did not do recalls on the 2016 models any longer. In the mist of trying to get it serviced , By JEEP the vehicle was serviced 3 times in total by NYC AUTOMART with no avail. The crank shaft sensor was changed BY NYC AUTOMART twice still no solutions.

I am a service contract administrator. I recently received a claim where the contract holders vehicle would stall. The shop stated a recall had been performed by Auto Nation Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Littleton , CO. ( 7980 W Tufts Ave , Littleton , CO 80123 ) ( 303-578-6099 ) I called over , gave them the VIN , and asked for documentation on the repair. The shop said they would send it over. In the meantime I had the shop the vehicle was currently at send me pictures of the wiring. The repair was poorly done , and Auto Nation is refusing to rectify their poor workmanship. The service advisor in questions name is Scott. He would not return phone calls , and never sent over the requested documentation. My company will take care of the customers repairs. Attached are the pictures of the poor repair. My purpose here is to report poor workmanship , and let you know this dealership is not repairing vehicles to either manufacturer , or federal standards.

THE UNSEALED MAIN RELAY BOX IS POSITIONED DIRECTLY BELOW THE LEAD-ACID BATTERY WHICH LEAKS DIRECTLY ONTO THE COVER, ENTERS THE RELAY BOX AND DESTROYS THE LEG AND WIRING CONNECTED TO THE AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN RELAY. THIS CAN OCCUR BOTH AS THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING OR CAUSE A NO-CRANK/NO-START SITUATION, IMMOBILIZING THE VEHICLE. IN OUR CASE, THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED WAS IN A PARKING LOT BUT THE ISSUE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE MYRIAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON THE ISSUE FOR MANY JEEP AND FCA VEHICLES. THIS IS ENOUGH OF A KNOWN ISSUE THAT FCA HAS NOT ADDRESSED FOR MANY YEARS NOW AND WE JUST PAID $460.00 FOR THE DEALER TO MOVE THE AFFECTED RELAY FROM THE BOX TO A LESS VULNERABLE LOCATION. TECH RESET SENSOR, AND SAID IF IT COMES ON AGAIN, WE SHOULD SET A DATE FOR REPAIR. ON SEPT 3, 6:40PM, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, COMING OUT OF AN INTERCHANGE, MY CAR SHUT DOWN! EVERYTHING. LUCKILY, CLOSE ENOUGH, I COASTED OFF TO THE RIGHT AND TOOK THE FIRST EXIT, BRAKED HARD, AND CAME TO STOP. COULDN'T RESTART. ORDERED A TOW. TEN MIN LATER, TRIED AGAIN, THE CAR STARTED, AND DROVE IT 3 MILES HOME @ 25 MPH. HIT 30MPH, IT KINDA 'CHUNKED', AND I WENT BACK TO 24-25MPH. SEPT 4, I TOOK TO LITHIA JEEP, AGAIN. LEFT IT WITH THEM. MY VEHICLE, SAME MAKE/MODEL, WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AS IN THE RECALL. The RPMs in my Jeep Patriot will randomly drop to zero and the car does not accelerate when you press the gas pedal. After a period of time the RPMs will jump back up and the car will start working properly again. The car never turns off and the engine is fully running. No warning lights or codes are activated when this happens. This has happened to me in the middle of traffic as well as on the open highway. The dealership is unable to diagnose the problem.

While driving my Patriot, as I turned into the gas station the check engine light, traction control light and ETC (red lightning bolt) all popped on at the same time. My vehicle instantly went into limp mode. When In park, stayed a consistent 1,500 RPM’s. All of this happened without warning as the car drove and ran like normal prior. Thankfully I was only .5 miles from home and was able to get it home. Code pulled: P2173 car has always been maintained on time since date of purchase.

Traction light will come on intermittently and abs and brake lights will flash and go away intermittently and all lights on dash and headlights will dim, radio shuts off, rpms will drop to 0 then go back to normal all while driving. Both camshaft sensors have been replaced twice in under a year. All spark plugs have been replaced twice in under a year as well as the crankshaft sensor. Something is constantly draining my battery (headlights are set on auto and interior lights are always set to off) There was a recall for camshaft/crankshaft wiring but my vehicle was not included in the recall.

Like many other Jeep Patriot owners, I have experienced driving down the road when out of nowhere, the car dies! Mechanics keep telling people that either the camshaft position sensor or the crankshaft position sensor needs to be replaced...... It's a temporary fix. The code that comes up says that the sensor is intermittent. It's not the sensor that's the problem, it's the wiring connectors!!! Those two sensors are on the same harness. I've had all three sensors replaced. Right after, the car drives fine. Very soon after, the car stalls while driving. Back to square one. They need to recall the sensor wiring for these two sensors for ALL 2016 Jeep Patriots.

The emissions systems stated slippery when wet and the traction for the tires were loose. The tires were installed or balanced wrong causing the tires to slide. When braking the traction caused the car to be driven at low speed to avoid the problems with the steering wheel and the balance between it using the wrong amount of space to turn. It needed it large amount of space because the wheels weren’t aligned correctly. The speed was hesitant to accelerate and was showing signs of defects written in the manufacturers possibly as needed investigation to return it back safely.

Vehicle unable to reach speed above 30mph. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) symbol shows up in error on dashboard. Unable to accelerate beyond 30mph. Vehicle drives with unstable and jerky motions. Have had this issue before and dealership mechanic reset computer, downloaded a system update to solve issue. This occurred about 2019. Issue has represented itself.

I JUMPED IT AND IT STARTED WITHIN 10SECONDS OF DRIVING IT I THOUGHT IT DIED AGAIN AND REALIZED WAS STILL RUNNING BUT IT WAS LIKE I WAS NOT PRESSING THE GAS RPMS WERE UP BUT NO SPEED WHEN I PUT IN PARK VEHICLE MOTOR SEEMED TO BE STRUGGLING AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY ALL OF THIS HAPPENED WHILE ON A SMALL ROAD . GOT IT HOME SPOKE TO MECHANIC HE INFORMED ME OF RECALL S89 AND IMMEDIATELY SAID IT WAS ELECTRICAL OR COMPUTER POSSIBLY I REACHED OUT TO CHRYSLER AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP TO SUBMIT MY VIN FOR RECALL I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP THEY ESSENTIALLY TOLD ME NO WE DON'T DO THAT. THIS WAS OUT OF NOWHERE WITH NO WARNING I DID TRY TO START VEHICLE A FEW MINUTES LATER IT STARTED UP.

I continually have the same issue with this vehicle. It started only a couple of months after initial purchase and has happened various times since. Today was one of those days it occurred, the ABS system will turn on along with the traction control light in the middle of the freeway causing the vehicle to immediately slow down, I could not accelerate and was almost hit by the car behind me because of it. The last time this happened I was in a remote location and was stranded for about an hour with no signal to call anyone. When this happens the car does not turn immediately back on and you can hear it continuously cranking. This vehicle has been in and out of the repair shops and the Chrysler hall could not figure out what was wrong with it. It stopped doing it but now it started again. I notice that when this happens the car starts tugging while driving and will spin out when attempting to brake. It happens randomly and that is very scary and dangerous.

I changed my brakes, and caliper myself because it was time for my brakes, and the caliper was hard to get off, so I replaced it. It felt like my brakes were still sticking, I took it to three repair shops and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Finally I took it to a repair shop because my brakes were making noise by this time. They replaced the pads, rotors, and caliper. When I picked it up from the shop and was driving home I smelled a burning smell and pulled over and my car was on fire. I had to put it out before it spread to the rest of my car. They had to replace the brake line and now it’s okay. I didn’t have any warning lights on my dash go off, I have receipts for the repair shops and parts. This is definitely a safety concern because if I would have associated that smell with the new brakes and didn’t pull over, it could have been a lot worse. Ignore the receipt for the ford brakes, I couldn’t delete it.

When I purchased the vehicle I'm still making payments on it. I went to get my brakes done and rotors the mechanic noticed that there were no emergency brakes on the vehicle they were weld off and I called car lock they said I had to get that fixed it isn't under warranty. How you sell me a unsafe vehicle with no emergency brakes. I have only had this vehicle 3 months.

ABS and other lights flashed on the dashboard, the vehicle slowed as if the brakes were pressed. And then it happens several more times before getting home. I brought the vehicle and saw there was a failure of the left rear ABS sensor. Upon looking the sensor is just sitting loose and the clip is rusted out and the sensor has no slot to press into. Upon research I see that this clip rusting out is a problem in these and it is very obviously a safety problem as for whatever reason the brakes engage when the sensor is faulty.

SUV intermittently stops with no warning which is unsafe. It’s been happening for a few weeks. I have been in traffic multiple times and the vehicle just stops with no warning and no engine light alert. I’ve almost been hit from behind since the vehicle loses all power and have to guide it to the side of the road or to the middle turn lane. I took the vehicle to NTB and the jeep gave a code for camshaft. I know there was a recall for this, but it seem that my jeep is not part of that recall. I’m not sure why because I’m having the same issue as the recall. Recall S89.

On 9/22/21, out 2016 Jeep Patriot broke down on Interstate 495 in Massachusetts, during rush-hour. While driving the vehicle, the engine shut down at highway speed, forcing us off of the road. A RED indicator light on the dashboard identified the problem as a bad "Throttle Body". We had the car towed to the dealer where we bought the vehicle, and they confirmed that is was a bad Throttle Body. Repair cost was $841.00. There was a recall for this part, but the recall only covered vehicles built between May and July 2016. Having an indicator light on the dashboard for this single part...is very telling. It shows that Jeep has a lot of problems with this part. But since our vehicle was built prior to this small recall window, and has more miles on than the standard warranty would cover, Jeep will not reimburse us for the repair.

I WAS ADDING GAS TO THE JEEP AND THE GAS SPEWED OUT BECAUSE THE CUTOFF DID NOT WORK; IT IS NOT THE GAS STATION'S PROBLEM BECAUSE I HAVE USED THE PUMP FOR MY CAR AND IT CUTS OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AFTER EXITING THE INTERSTATE. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED THE GAS AND THE CAR ACCELERATED FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE. On 3 separate occasions while driving the car will chime and ABS, traction control & a third light (I think its the low tire) quickly blinks on and goes off again. The car will still be on and in motion. Today, the car shut off while idle. No lights were on prior and I had been driving for just under 10 minutes. After a period of 2-3 minutes, I tried to crank the engine again and it came on, no lights on dash. I drove to my destination.

I believe it's the engine or could have something to do with fuel. Car shuts off while in idle, mainly while sitting at a red light it shuts off/down completely. I then have to turn the switch to the on position to recrank it. It starts with no problem at all. Happens almost everyday. I've taken it to have it checked and they can't find any issues. It's been this way since I've gotten the car. Still no one can find the problem.

Several incidents when driving where the vehicle hesitates then the RPMs drop to zero and the Vehicle does not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. Vehicle does not die each time just does not react to gas pedal being applied and does not increase in speed. Only dashboard light that comes on is the loss of traction. Incident causes driver to have to pull off road, place vehicle in park, turn off and on. Then can drive again.

My 2016 Jeep Patriot 4X4 engine light is staying on. When I took it to a mechanic to have it read it stats faulty cramshaft and camshaft position sensors. My engine has stalled, loss of acceleration and power, shuddering, and jerking that is continuously happens. Jeep manufactures said its not there problem. I need help with my vehicle, not just for my safety but for the safety of my kids. Also the problem is only getting worse.

IT STARTED WORKING SOON AFTERWARD ONLY TO GET STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AGAIN. IT WAS TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANKPOSTITION SENSOR IS BAD. IT IS RECALLED ON OTHER 2016 JEEP PATRIOTS BUT NOT COVERED ON THIS ONE. IT WAS MANUFACTURED BEFORE THE RECALL. I HOPE YOU WILL CONSIDER INCLUDING THIS CAR UNDER THE RECALL. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE ABRUPT STOPPING OF THIS VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. The headrest deployed over night while sitting in the garage. There is a plastic piece that keeps the headrest from deploying. That piece is under 75 pounds of pressure and will eventually break. I have read of several people that had the same thing happen to them. Some deployed overnight while parked in their driveway or garage. I read where one person said his deployed while driving and hit him in the back of the head. He said he was lucky that he didn't hit anyone. The Jeep Corporation knows about this flaw but refuses to issue a recall.

ACTIVE HEADREST WAS DEPLOYED/ACTIVATED WHILE IDLE AT A RED LIGHT, THE HEADREST HIT THE BACK OF MY HEAD AND MADE ME RELEASE THE BRAKE WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THERE WAS ALSO A VERY LOUD NOISE (KIND OF LIKE A GUN SHOT NOISE). THIS WAS VERY SCARY AS I HAD NO IDEA WHAT HAD HAPPENED OR WHAT HAD HIT MY HEAD, I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND EXAMINE MY CAR TO MAKE SURE IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE IT. ALL THIS WHILE I WAS IN PAIN RESULTING FROM THE HEADREST HITTING THE BACK OF MY HEAD.

Brought Jepp Patriot 2016 to a car shop in Suisun City, CA and they did a thorough diagnostics of my Patriot and couldn’t find out why my battery light was coming on. They checked the alternator and battery and they said they were fine. I was on a main street in Suisun City and as I was turning to the left the car died on me and completely shut off. It was hard to turn wheels and hard to push the brakes and I had people push me out of the street into a sidewalk near a house. I then decided to try start it and it started and I was able to make it to my daughter’s house. My son-in-law and granddaughter used my car and hasn’t had the battery light come on yet but that has happened to me several times where it would come on and turn back off. There was only one incident where it died on me so far and I’m hoping it won’t do it again especially on a busier street. I can’t afford to bring it to dealership to see if they can find the reason why the battery lights comes off and on sporadically. I don’t know if any other Jeeps are having this issue but am asked to report it in case it does to happen to someone else.

The suv uses large amounts of oil, no matter what brand. Also an electrical issue is present. The radio stops working, thr check engine light stays on. And the headlights dim way down. This happens randomly. The engine code reappears for p420, and i have fixed every component related to the code. The suv consumes approximately 2 quarts of oil in a months driving. The headlights dim so low, even with brights on, you can barely tell they are on.

Within 1.5 years my car kept slowing down when driving out of no where. We almost crashed because the car literally won’t pick up speed or just jolts a few times then stops. We spent over $1000 to have it fixed with 3 different mechanics. They said it was the crankshaft I believe and catalytic converters. We just got the car brand new in 2016 so this has been frustrating because we get oil changes every 3 months and take great car of the car. We’ve had two get brakes don’t over and over and also when you turn the wheels it’s loud and sounds like the ending of a roller coaster when you here it turning. The rides are not smooth either you can see my hand shaking hard when driving even at slow speeds like 35 mph. Jeep really sold us a lemon and we have been paying such a high car note on top fixing things each year. After so many complaints, they really should reimburse people who spend money fixing the same issue. A law suit may handle the issues as well but due diligence would be Jeep seeing the issues and repairing the problem or refunding for the repairs. I’m hoping someone else will see my complaints and think twice before purchasing this vehicle

While slowly accelerating from a stop, my 2016 Jeep Patriot engine stalled in the middle of a busy intersection. I lost power steering and & brakes and was luckily able to muscle the car over to the side of road out of traffic. I waited several minutes and restarted the engine which then operated normally afterward. This engine stalling has occurred repeatedly & more frequently (6+ times in last 10 days) while accelerating from a stop which is very dangerous in cross-traffiic intersections and on freeways. Additionally now, the engine rpm’s intermittently surge notably up and down +/- 2,000 rpm while driving with steady un-changing pressure on gas pedal. I have seen no engine failure indicators. I have had this vehicle serviced at two different independent repair shops that couldn’t re-create the problem & guessed it was the throttle body and then cleaned/serviced it. The problem persists more frequently, and is the exact problem listed in the S89 ChryslerJeep recall. My vin is not referenced in the recall notice-even though it is from the same Jeep manufacture period. This recall should definitely apply to my vehicle. I drive 40 freeway miles daily to work and am concerned for my safety and others. My vehicle is available for inspection if needed and I am bringing it tomorrow to a Jeep dealer in hopes of having it repaired under the recall. As the original new owner, I strongly feel that Chrysler Jeep needs to apply this recall to my vehicle and support their owner’s safety.

I WAS DRIVING ON A 4-LANE HIGHWAY IN THE PASSING LANE. THESE INDICATOR WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON: ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, ENGINE, TRACTION CONTROL. THE CAR STARTED BUCKING AND SLOWED DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE INTO THE NON-PASSING LANE AND PULL INTO A STRIP MALL PARKING LOT. I SHUT THE CAR OFF. I LEFT IT OFF FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, ALL INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE OFF EXCEPT FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF TWO MORE TIMES. THE SECOND TIME, TH ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. THE THIRD TIME, NO LIGHTS CAME ON. I DROVE THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP. ON THE WAY THERE, THE ENGINE THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE CAR STARTED BUCKING. AFTER APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE, THE INDICATOR LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE CAR STOPPED BUCKING. I MADE IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEMS. AT THE REPAIR SHOP, THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE VEHICLE. THEY FOUND NO CURRENT CODES BUT FOUND OLD CODES RELATING TO THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. THEY STATED THAT WITHOUT A CURRENT CODE, THEY COULD NOT HELP ME AND ASKED ME TO PICK UP THE CAR. THEY SAID THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS, I SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD BE CAUSED BY A MULTITUDE OF ITEMS AND FINDING THE CAUSE WOULD BE A TRIAL AND ERROR PROJECT.

Thank you for taking the time to review my inquiry. My 2016 Jeep Patriot has experienced issues with the engine shutting off intermittently while driving at significant speeds and losing control of my vehicle, especially while on the highway. This has created some dangerous situations, which thankfully never caused any harm. After doing some research, I noticed that Jeep had a safety recall for this exact issue "S89 / NHTSA 16V-907, Crankshaft Camshaft Sensor Wire Harness." My 2016 Jeep Patriot has experienced failures with the crankshaft position sensor listed in that recall twice now (in September 2022 & December 2024). My VIN # [XXX] ) is not included in that recall, so I was denied reimbursement by the manufacturer both times even though the dealer was able to reproduce the issues both times (see attached receipts). After experiencing this twice, this has been severely disturbing for my family and has caused much anxiety when operating my vehicle. I have attached the associated receipts for the two repairs and summarized them below (both paid with credit card): - September 2022 - Maryland Auto & Truck Repair: $1,082.07 - December 2024 - Tate Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Inc.: $684.04 TOTAL Reimbursement Request: $1,766.11 My belief is that my vehicle should have been included in that recall since it is the same year/make/model listed in the recall. I have had constant electrical issues with my vehicle ever since I bought it in 2018 and I've had to replace the TIPM twice already and it's messing up again! This repair isn't cheap and I feel that JEEP MOPAR should issue a recall regarding the crappy TIPMS they put in this particular vehicle. First of all all the warning lights on the dashboard come off and on intermittentally for no reason and now the doors won't lock using the key fob and my horn doesn't work. And now my ac isn't even working and I don't know if it has something to do with the TIPM or not? But I'm constantly getting an error on the dash that says no bus communication. I know I can't be the only owner of a 2016 Jeep Patriot latitude 2.0 that is experiencing these issues. If anyone else had experienced these issues please send a message to the nhtsa so we can get this issue investigated and elevate it into a recall!

The horn stopped working 4 months after purchase I've had it for a year. It has a hard time accelerating when you're hopping on the freeway. There's also a wiring issue with the rear blinkers and taillight it works for a little bit then goes out off and on throughout the trip.

ON MONDAY 07/09/2018, WHILE STOPPED ON A CITY STREET WAS REAR-ENDED BY A TRUCK WHICH DIDN'T STOP GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 -50 MPH. IT SMASHED MY CAR INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT WHICH WAS A CAR LENGTH AWAY. THE SEAT BROKE BACKWARDS, THE CENTER CONSOLE BETWEEN THE SEATS FLEW OFF, AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS IN THE VEHICLE DEPLOYED, KNEES WENT FORWARD INTO THE DASH.

There is some sort of electrical issue. Things keep going in and out: internal lights, cruise control, turn signals in front and back go out 6-9 times a year, ABS light stays on even after it was serviced, the radio goes in and out. I lose power while driving snd allow the car to sit for a day or two and it cuts back on like nothing ever happened.

from the day I purchased the vehicle on [XXX] of 2023. I immediately heard a rattling noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. I also noticed that the transmission had been catching or slipping or missing whenever it transfers gears it is getting worse by the day I have taken it to the original dealership at MNF auto sales in Albuquerque and I have also taken it to the Larry Miller Jeep in Albuquerque New Mexico. They claim that the only thing wrong with the vehicle is the motor mounts after I left with my vehicle from being repaired, it continues to happen, and the transmission is getting worse day by day , I am afraid if I keep driving it much longer that it may cause an accident or damage the vehicle severely. I am trying to work with the dealership and they are telling me that multiple people have looked at it and that there’s nothing wrong with it however, that is false information , my vehicle has been in the service department for over 10 days at two different locations and basically the main dealership where I bought it from is telling me that they do not want to look at it and that it’s the type of transmission I have and there’s nothing wrong. TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT HAS BEEN ON SINCE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW, HAD IT CHECKED BY DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WOULD GO OFF AFTER DRIVEN A FEW MILES. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AROUND 50K MILES AND BEFORE I COULD GET IT CHECKED IT WENT OFF. I WAS TOLD THE ONLY WAY THE COMPUTER COULD DETECT THE PROBLEM WAS IF THE LIGHT WAS ON. IT HAS CAME ON AND GONE BACK OFF SEVERAL TIMES. NOW IT HAS CAME ON AT 90K MILES AND THE I HAD IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD I HAD A BAD CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND A BAD CAMSHAFT SENSOR. Vehicle suddenly stalls with no prior warning, both while driving and at rest. This cannot be duplicated and does not throw codes on the code scanner. Occasionally it will "hiccup" and keep going instead of a complete stall. RPM drops to zero and will then jump back to their prior reading. The vehicle becomes impossible to control (stalled so no speed st all abd difficult to steer). Mechanic cannot duplicate problem or find code on their reader. We have replaced the throttle body and one camshaft sensor but not the other, more difficult to reach sensor. There is a current recall for camshaft/crankshaft sensor that applies to some 2016 jeep patriots but ours falls outside of that manufacturing date range.

I had the catalyst converter recall fixed in 2020 and now I am having to fix/replace the converter they replaced with the recall not even 3 years later and have been told that it wouldn’t be associated with the recall or replaced under warranty with it even though the life span on a catalyst converter is usually around 10 years not just little over 2 years old I shouldn’t be having to get it replace and pay the costs of a more recently fixed recall

Engine stalls out when driving down the highway, check engine light and road hazard lights come on and car trying to accelerate itself at times and other times won’t go over 40 mph. If you let off the brake the car immediately launches forward. I have almost been hit as the car stalls out of no where. I can pull over and turn it off then back on and it will drive for a few miles then happen again. The car was hooked up to the code reader and it says throttle body injector P2173

DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE RED LIGHTNING BOLT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AS DID THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS AND THE ACCELERATOR CUT OUT. WHILE DRIVING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SENSOR LIGHT AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE LOSES POWER, THE TRANSMISSION IS CHOPPY AND I CANT DRIVE FASTER THAN 20-30 MILES PER HOUR. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART, THE SENSOR LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT GOES OFF, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND THE CAR RUNS NORMAL. Problems started when the wheel and axel came off the vehicle on a side road 3 years ago. The vehicle dropped a wheel again when crossing the country a month later. Both incidents included my wife and passengers. That at least seems resolved. At 28900 miles or so we have been wrestling for the last year and some with intermittently all the warning lights coming on and now the car will occasionally lose all power while in motion. So we have taken it to the dealership where they say it requires a replacement of the electrical harness. Topping off, the driver seat rest safety mechanism deployed randomly this last week while the vehicle was parked in the driveway.

My 2016 Jeep Patriot was taken in for intermittent stalling and my engine was stalling. This happened a few times. My car RPM went from 3 to 0 and I could not accelerate. I had to put the car in park and turn the car off and start it back up. The first time my car would not start back up right away. Luckily there was no one close enough behind me nor were I was going fast enough to be in an accident. I go it to a repair shop and was told my crankshaft and sensor would need to be replaced. My car is currently being serviced at Gandrud Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The phone number is (920) 468-1212. I previously looked up a recall for Jeep Patriots and there was a recall for crankshaft "Recall # [XXX]. Unfortunately my car was manufactured just after the date of [XXX] which is the cutoff of the recall. This recall is exactly what is currently being replaced on my car. I think this recall needs to be extended as this could have been a more serious accident and to help prevent more future accidents. My car should have been included in this recall. My ABS module has gone out, giving me an UNSAFE Jeep Patriot, now with ZERO ABS or Traction control, major issue in Tampa driving! Apparently, according to the dealer here, they're on "galactic back order" for a few years now; I couldn't even find one at a used parts store in the area...had to resort to Ebay, having it installed at the dealership this week, who says they'll install it (Janet) but they won't guarantee they can program it and it will reset those dash lights?!?! They can't guarantee it? Then something needs to be figured out to GUARANTEE I have a working Jeep, complete with ABS and traction control. This is a major, according to several people I've spoken with but there's no recall? If something is on back-order for the dealership for years, something needs to be done, you have Jeep customers riding around unsafely in vehicles they purchased WITH safety features, Feel free to call for more details. Head lights continue to dim way down. And now they flicker occasionally. Has not been looked at by anyone except a mobile mechanic. There is no warning, it doesn't happen only over bumps, it happens very randomly, and you never know when. Ive has the mobile mechanic add a set of LED lights because the headlights dim way down, to the point that the bright lights barely light the road to see. No certain dates, it happens randomly, many times since I've owned it, since 2021.

Since 2021 I have been complaining odd a smell (Burning/ Rotten) upon 1st starting up the vehicle. It was on the faint side when 1st discovered. Taken to Jeep dealership 2022 with same complaint. Replaced inside air filters. No resolution/ taken to 3rd dealership 2023 late winter. I would like to know if the vehicle was in the flood of 2020 1st of all. I've had this vehicle in Many times before I was told there was no maintenance work done prior to me buying it from a dealer. Been addressing a bad odder upon starting the vehicle for over a year. The smell is in the cab also. Now being told it could be the catalytic converter @ 51,000 miles on the vehicle. I've already spent over $1,300.00 to cover normal maintenance that was never done by the dealer I bought the vehicle from. My extended warranty ran out a month or so ago. The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that upon accelerating uphill, the RMPs revved up but the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The coolant temperature warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the temperature sensor had failed and damaged the transmission. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the temperature sensor, head gasket, water pump, radiator, and unknown hoses and clamps were replaced. A transmission flush was performed, and the transmission was rebuilt. Additionally, the contact stated that upon parking the vehicle after driving 45 MPH, she noticed that the driver's seat headrest had partially been deployed independently. The contact pushed the headrest inside the seat; however, the headrest was completely deployed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

I would like to recall my 2016 Jeep Patriot because the crankshaft and camshaft sensor are failing to work properly and that increases the risk of crash. There were also problems with the steering column and the tires being off balance because after balancing was found to move without the steering wheel being turned. The recall is important because the vehicle is potential for crash . I only found these things out after driving and seller claimed everything was at top shape but bent the truth due to the small amount of miles put on the vehicle and the fact that I didn't crash the vehicle.

FAULTY CONTROL ARM/BALL JOINTS ( ALL IN ONE PART TOGETHER FOR BALL JOINT AND CONTROL ARM) first time I took it in was jan 2021 the two months later now this is the 3RD time now the car dealership is stating the faulty part ( control arm/ ball join) mechanic stated both times that that parts were faulty. Causing damage to tires that are not safe and I have to pay out of pocket for new tires when the parts are faulty which the parts were covered under my warranty but tire were not... so I believe since the parts that are faulty that caused damaged I should not be liable for buying the new tires did to faulty parts causing the damage.

My jeep sputters like it's going to shut off. It does occasionally and I loose steering and speed control and The brakes dont work. Not sure if it's a fuel issue a transmission issue or what the deal is but it has done it forever. It jerks around like it is in the wrong gear and often is trying to operate in 6th gear when going 30 mph. It's not changing gears...it isn't accelerating correctly when pulling out in traffic. AUTOMATIC JEEP, HAS DIFFICULTY SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS WHEN ACCELERATING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN GOING A SLOWER SPEED (I.E. TURNING A CORNER, IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH STOP-AND-GO SPEEDS), BUT DOES DO IT AT HIGHER SPEEDS (EX. 60 MPH TO 70 MPH). IT DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE ISSUES WHEN DOWN SHIFTING. THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY NOTICEABLE LURCH/SHUTTER WHEN IT IS ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR AND WILL DO IT REPEATEDLY IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE DRIVEN A WHILE BEFORE IT WILL OCCUR, I DRIVE IT ABOUT 20 MILES BEFORE IT STARTS EXHIBITING THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE IS MOST FRIGHTENING IN CITY/RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE THE VEHICLE MIGHT STOP RUNNING ALL TOGETHER. THE VEHICLE ALSO SEEMS TO STRUGGLE TO MAKE IT UP HILLS, AS IF IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO MAKE THE CLIMB OF EVEN A SMALL HILL. THE RPM GAUGE REALLY JUMPS UP HIGH TO ABOUT 5-6 WHEN CLIMBING A SMALL HILL OR ACCELERATING 5-10 MPH TO PASS SOMEONE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ISSUE STARTED BEFORE THE VEHICLE HAD REACHED 60,000 MILES. FILTERS AND OIL HAVE BEEN CHANGED SEVERAL TIMES AND FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE GAS SEVERAL TIMES, NONE OF THESE MEASURES HAVE CHANGED THE PERFORMANCE ISSUE OF THE VEHICLE.

PURCHASED VEHICLE LESS THAN 6 MONTHES AGO AND COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER THAT IT SOUNDED AND FELT LIKE WHEELS WERE ABOUT TO FALL OFF. 8 DAYS LATER I TOOK IT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THE SHOP REFUSED. HE EXPLAINED THAT WHEN THEY LIFTED THE JEEP AND INSPECTED TIRES THE WIRE TREADS WERE EXPOSED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TIRE, AT ANY MOMENT THE VEHICLE COULD POSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO PASSENGERS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHANGED TIRE BUT DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES CONTINUALLY MADE A SCREECHING SOUND , FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON. THE DAY AFTER TAKINGTHE PATRIOT IN FOR THE LOW "TIRE LIGHT" THE ESC/ABS LIGHTS ALSO STARTED COMING ON. I HAVE JUST OVER 50,000 MILES SO THE WARRANTY IS OVER. I WAS TOLD THAT IN ADDITION TO THE $115 FOR DOING A DIAGNOSTIC TO SEE WHY THE LIGHTS WERE ON IT WOULD BE $350 EXTRA PLUS LABOR TO REPLACE THE SENSOR. I WAS UNABLE TO PAY FOR THIS AT THIS TIME. THE SENSOR GOT SOME TYPE OF MOISTURE AND WAS SHORTING OUT. MINE CONTINUES TO BE ON FOR 30 MINUTES THEN GO OUT, OR NOT COME ON AT ALL, OR NOT ON THEN COMES ON. EITHER THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH CONNECTION OR THIS IS JUST A BAD PRODUCT. WITH ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME SCENARIO - I AM AFRAID THAT THERE IS A WATER LEAK OR THE SENSOR DOES NOT HAVE PROTECTION FROM WATER. EITHER WAY, I FEEL THAT THIS IS A HAZARD TO ANYONE DRIVING A JEEP PATRIOT. OTHERS HAVE REPORTED SMOKE, FIRES, ETC. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE DEALER AND CORRECTED FREE OF CHARGE. I LOVED MY PATRIOT UNTIL THIS HAPPENED. I WILL BE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THIS WEEKEND, WHICH IS WHY I TRIED TO HAVE THE LIGHTS/SENSORS CHECKED OUT MONDAY. I LEAVE TOMORROW AND HOPE AND PRAY I DO NOT HAVE A FIRE/ACCIDENT TO REPORT ON MONDAY. THIS IS A VALID SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. ONLINE OTHER REPORTS ALSO STATE THAT SOMETIMES YOU LOSE ACCELERATION AND STALL BECAUSE OF THE SENSOR. PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT.

REAR TIRE AREA MAKES A GRINDING SOUND, AUTO SHOP EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS THE CONTROL ARM AND SUSPENSION (REAR CRADLE ASSEMBLY) WAS BROKEN AT WELD CONNECTION TO THE FRAME. SPOKE TO ANOTHER AUTO SHOP ABOUT REPAIRS, TOLD I WAS MISTAKEN, PART SHOULD NOT BREAK. CONTACTED WARRANTY TECH/EDGE WARRANTIES REGARDING ISSUE, TOLD TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP CALLS BACK SAME DAY AND SAID THAT IT BROKE BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN PULLED WRONG...I ASKED WHAT THAT MEANT, DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT HAD BEEN TOWED WRONG. I TOLD HIM THAT WE HAD PURCHASED NEW FROM THE LOT AND HAD NEVER BEEN TOWED. REPRESENTATIVE SAID HE WOULD LOOK FURTHER INTO ISSUE AFTER TELLING ME THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE. NEXT DAY, REPRESENTATIVE OF DEALERSHIP CALLS (BREEDEN DODGE) AND TELLS ME THAT ONCE THEY TOOK THE WHEEL OFF AND EXAMINED FURTHER, THAT THE "PULLED WRONG THEORY" WAS OUT THE DOOR, THAT IT BASICALLY JUST BROKE, AND THAT IT SHOULD NOT HAVE. I AGAIN TOLD HIM THAT FROM EACH PROFESSIONAL I SPOKEN WITH THAT IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT/ERROR. HE SAID HE WOULD CONTACT CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY WOULD STAND BEHIND ISSUE. I DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF ON A WEDNESDAY, THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY, THE REPRESENTATIVE CALLS BACK SAYING THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT STAND BEHIND, BUT THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT INSURANCE COMPANY. I TOLD HIM THAT I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH WARRANTY TECH/EDGE WARRANTIES (CHRYSLER CALLS IT ONE THING AND DEALERSHIP CALLS IT ANOTHER). THE REPRESENTATIVE ACTED LIKE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS AN ISSUE, EACH TIME I MENTIONED IT, BUT SAID HE WOULD CONTACT THEM. HE CALLED BACK A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER AND SAID THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER BECAUSE IT IS PART OF THE FRAME. HE THEN INSISTED THAT I CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I TOLD HIM I WOULD CONTACT BOTH CHRYSLER AND WARRANTY TECH. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND ALMOST GOT IT APPROVED AS HE HAD ONLY CONTACTED THEM THE DAY PRIOR.

I'VE HAD CONSTANT ISSUE WITH MY BREAKS SQUEALING. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE ABOUT 9 MONTHS THE ABS LIGHT WOULD COME ON ANY TIME I DROVE ACROSS A SPEED BUMP IN A PARKING LOT, ANY AREA ON A ROADWAY THAT WAS UNEVEN. A FEW MONTHS LATER WHEN TURNING RIGHT, MY LEFT WHEEL CONTINUED TO GO TO THE LEFT. AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN TURNING LEFT EITHER FROM A STOP OR GOING AROUND A CURVE THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE OR HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE CARRIAGE IN THE FRONT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP PATRIOT. SHIFTS FROM D TO 1ST ON ITS OWN: FROM A STOP, THE 2016 JEEP PATRIOT SEMI-AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DROPS TO FIRST GEAR ON ITS OWN. THERE IS NO INDICATION UNTIL THE DRIVER HAS PULLED INTO TRAFFIC AND HAS NO ACCELERATION POWER. THE DASH LIGHT INDICATES THE VEHICLE IS IN 1ST GEAR, BUT THE DRIVER WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS AND MUST EITHER GUN THE ENGINE AND TAKE RPMS OFF THE CHART TO AVOID A CRASH FROM ONCOMING VEHICLES, OR MANUALLY SHIFT THE VEHICLE TO N OR P AND THEN RETURN TO D FOR A TYPE OF "RESET". THE ISSUE IS INTERMITTANT. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM (IN TO SHOP 3X FOR THIS ISSUE). THEY REPLACED THE STICK SENSOR AND OPENED TWO SEPARATE STARON PACKS WITH JEEP ENGINEERS. BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. I SUSPECT ITS TRANSMISSION ($$) RELATED OR ELECTRICAL ($$). MOVING ON TO NEW DEALERSHIP SERVICE. FINGERS CROSSED. CRUISE CONTROL: WHEN CRUISE ENGAGED AT 70-75 MPH ON OPEN HWY, HAD TO SLOW FOR TRAFFIC. SPEED DROPPED DOWN TO ABOUT 60-65. WHEN REENGAGED CRUISE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY--RPMS SHOT THROUGH THE ROOF. HAD TO TAP THE BREAKS TO DISENGAGE CRUISE AND WHOLE FAMILY EXPERIENCED A HARD LURCH. REPORTED ISSUE TO JEEP SERVICE AS PERHAPS RELATED TO ISSUE WITH DOWNSHIFTING TO FIRST. RESPONSE WAS THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. SEATBELTS: WHEN A PERSON WEIGHING MORE THAN 230LBS SITS IN THE FRONT SEATS, THE SEAT BELT WARNING SOUND DINGS AS IF THE BELT IS NOT ENGAGED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED SENSORS IN BOTH FRONT SEATS. PROBLEM RESOLVED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE MENTIONED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V907000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) CONTRIBUTED TO THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN AT A SPEED THAT WOULD FACILITATE THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAGS. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. ON 4/12/17 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30 PM I WAS DRIVING MY JEEP OF 11,000 MILES ON IT. STILL A NEW CAR. IT STARTED RUNNING AS IF LOOSING POWER. I PULLED OFF OF HIGHWAY TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I PULLED HOOD RELEASE IT DID NOT OPEN. I LOOKED UNDER JEEP TO ATTEMPT TO GET HOOD OPEN AS AN POLICE OFFICER PULLED UP BESIDE CAR TO SEE IF I WAS OK. AS HE BEGAN TO ASK THIS AND I TURNED TO REPLY. CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. OFFICER ATTEMPTED TO USE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT IT DID NOT HELP AND BY THE TIME FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS. FIRE RAGED SO HOT IT MELTED THE FRONT SEAT HEAD RESTS AND THE ENTIRE FRONT OF JEEP IS GONE. PERHAPS BY PULLING OVER IS THE ONLY REASON I AM STILL ALIVE. I HAVE A LOT OF DOCUMENTS AND PICTURES. TAKATA RECALL. I WAS INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT ON MARCH 14, 2016. I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN WHEN A SUV WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN TO THE STREET I WAS STOPPED WAITING TO MAKE MY RIGHT TURN. THE GENTLEMAN WAS SPEEDING AND TOOK A HARD RIGHT, HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE AND HIT ME FULL IMPACT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE ENTIRE DRIVER SIDE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT INFLATE, THE AIRBAG LIGHTS DID NOT TURN ON. AT THE IMPACT THAT I WAS HIT THEY SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF AND NO ONE KNOWS OR COULD EXPLAIN WHY THEY DIDN'T DEPLOY. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AROUND 2:30 PM WHEN I NOTICE SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER MY HOOD. I PULLED OFF TO A SAFE SPOT AND BY THIS TIME II COULD SEE THE FIRE COMING OUT OF THE FRONT OF MY JEEP. THREE FIRE INSPECTORS LOOKED AT IT AND ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. HOWEVER, A JEEP MECHANIC ALSO LOOKED AT IT AND BELIEVES THE FIRE STARTED BEHIND THE BATTERY. THE JEEP IS TOTALED. WENT THROUGH CAR WASH, WATER CAME POURING IN THROUGH DOME LIGHT, RAINING ON RADIO. TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THE DRAIN LINES ARE TOO SMALL AND OFTEN NEED TO BE UNCLOGGED. THEY OFFER NO EXPLANATION OF THE POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL HAZARD OR THE ROTTING EFFECTS OF WATER LEFT UNSEEN IN THE ROOF LININGS. I GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND FOUND THE HISTORY OF THIS POOR DESIGN GOES BACK TO 2008. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED AND CAN ONLY UNCLOG/BLOW OUT THE DRAIN TUBES DURING MY ROUTINE OIL CHANGES...THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS A POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL SAFETY HAZARD. I AM LEASING THE VEHICLE BUT MAY NEED TO SWITCH OUT. THIS IS AN ACKNOWLEDGED MANUFACTURERS DEFECT THAT THEY ARE APPARENTLY IGNORING TO THE CONSUMERS RISK OF ELECTRICAL FIRE, AND OR ROTTING ACCESSORIES CAUSING POTENTIAL SEVERE DEVALUATION IN TRADE IN / SALE POTENTIAL AS WELL AS ACTUAL CASH VALUE IN INSURANCE APPRAISALS.
