I received an Stop Drive Order form Mercedes Benz USA more that a week ago and I stopped driving my vehicle. I contacted the closest authorized MB dealer Union, NJ and they have not provided a loaner car and have not yet fixed the issue. They say they have so many calls and cannot do anything for me despite the fact I waited so long. I need this car on a daily basis and cannot do my work without this car. I have been calling them over and over and they disconnect the phone. This has been really frustrating. They are also saying that they are not willing to pay for any cab fee, Uber or any rental car fee. I need my car urgently and am really scared to drive this car after they sent me the STOP DRIVE Order

As the recall states for the brakes the car failed while at high speed on the highway luckily I had distance from other cars for the car to slow down on its own. Brakes failed 90%, pressure completely gone.

THE VEHICLE DROVE UPHILL AND BECAME AIRBORNE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT'S BROTHER WAS INJURED AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE OCCUPANTS OF THE HOUSE WERE NOT INJURED. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PERFORMED AN INVESTIGATION. The contact owns a 2010 Mercedes-Benz GL450. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH and attempting to bring the vehicle of a complete stop, the vehicle slowed but failed to stop as expected. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard but was able to bring the vehicle to a stop by using the parking brake. The low brake fluid warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the front driver’s side brake line, observing that the brake line was heavily corroded causing the line to rupture. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed an identical failure with the front passenger’s side brake line. The contact was informed that excessive corrosion was observed throughout the entire braking system. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V315000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 140,000.

The contact stated that the brake pedal went to floorboard. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was associated with a recall. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V315000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted several times and informed the contact that the manufacturer had not been providing parts for the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to obtain a rental for possible reimbursement. The failure mileage was 122,042. Parts distribution disconnect.

THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS DURING A SNOW STORM WHEN SHE REALIZED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE EXTREMELY THIN AND COULD NOT REMOVE THE SNOW FROM THE WINDSHIELD DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE DEFROSTER WAS ALSO ACTIVATED. The third row seating Panorama Sunroof cracked. Now when it rains, water leaks inside the suv. Loud boom, cracking sound, was not sure what it was but was coming from rear of suv as I was driving yesterday afternoon. No warning lamps, messages, as it is the glass panorama sunroof located in the rear upper roof of the suv. I will take it to my AAA insurance representative this week. I will bring it to my independent MB certified mechanic shop for inspection. I have no idea what could have caused the panorama sunroof to crack other than perhaps manufacturing defect, as I have noticed on several MB forums of this particular issue being reported.

AFTER EXTENSIVE REVIEWS OF TDI FORUMS, COMMON RAIL FORUMS, DIESEL FORUMS I HAVE FOUND A COMMONALITY IN THE FAILURES IN THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP). MAINLY THOSE FAILURES WERE ATTRIBUTED TO METAL SHAVINGS/PARTICLES/RUST FOUND IN DIESEL FUEL SYSTEMS. THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNITS ARE USUALLY RUSTED IN EACH CASE AND MOST LIKELY IS THE SOURCE OF METAL/RUST CONTAMINATION AND ULTIMATELY CAUSE OF THE HPFP FAILURE. FAILURE OF THE HPFP CAUSES THE CR TO LOSE PRESSURE THEREFORE THE INJECTORS ARE STARVED OF FUEL OR WORSE CLOGGED WITH RUSTED METAL PARTICLES. THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF FUEL CAUSES THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN INSTANTLY ALONG WITH POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. DEPENDING ON THE RESERVE VACUUM VOLUME IN THE BOOSTER, CONSUMERS MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH VACUUM TO ADEQUATELY BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP. ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD FEEL VERY HEAVY AND THE CONSUMER MAY OR MAY NOT BE ABLE TO STEER CLEAR OF AN ACCIDENT. I WROTE TO MBUSA NOTING THIS CAUSE AND URGED THEM TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY BEFORE ANY INJURY OR DEATH HAPPENS, ALSO TO INSTITUTE A VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL OF ALL CR DIESELS TO DETERMINE IF RUST FROM THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT IS PRESENT. I PROPOSED A REMEDY TO MBUSA TO CHANGE OUT THE RUSTED UNITS FOR STAINLESS STEEL ONES. ABOUT A WEEK AGO I BOUGHT DIESEL FUEL FROM A TRUCK STOP IN LONG BEACH, NOT MY USUAL PURCHASE FROM MY LOCAL GAS STATION. ONE WEEK LATER I GET A MESSAGE TO CHANGE MY FUEL FILTER AND GOT A TROUBLE CODE INDICATING A LOW FUEL RAIL PRESSURE. I HAD THE FILTER CHANGED AND EXPERIENCED HARD STARTING LATER ON. THE OLD FILTER HAD WATER AND SOME ALGAE CONTAMINATION WHICH IS VERY COMMON IN DIESEL ENGINES. I SUSPECTED WATER FROM THE TRUCK STOP WHERE I GOT FUEL FROM AND TRIED TO REMOVE IT USING A DIESEL ADDITIVE, SEA FOAM. STARTING MY CAR GOT WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE IT WOULD NO LONGER START. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THEY CLAIM I BOUGHT BAD FUEL AND THE ADDITIVE RUINED THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. NOW THE DEALER IS CLAIMING MY CAR NEEDS THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACED INCLUDING THE INJECTORS, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, ALL THE FUEL LINES, FUEL FILTER, FUEL TANK, LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, AND FUEL SENSOR, WITH ESTIMATED COST OF $15,000+. NHTSA HAS IDENTIFIED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURES (HPFP) ON A MAJORITY OF GERMAN VEHICLES, INCLUDING VOLKSWAGEN, MERCEDES, AUDI, JUST TO NAME A FEW. THE FUEL QUALITY IS DIFFERENT IN THE US COMPARED TO EUROPEAN STANDARDS AS MOST OF THE US USES ULTRA-LOW SULFUR DIESEL. The EIS module we have found has an issue with the part from Japan that does not have enough Sauder on a part of it, so when the temp drops below 50 degrees or less the ignition starts but all the safety features go off and the computer shuts down the vehicle. Reason is the metal contracts in cold weather causing the connections to not fully meet. We have figured this out after many times of replacing the main battery, aux battery thinking this is the issue. After much research on the web and MB forums this seems to be an issue especially in the colder climates with some of the older models. Some others have had have their autos stop in the middle of driving them in cold weather. Not sure why this has not been reported. We are having the issue now with a 2010 MB GL 450 we just purchased in November and every time it gets cold, the auto goes haywire when the temp drops. Warm weather zero issues. Wanted to relay since we do not see a recall and we are working out the bug on this on our own time and money.

THIS VEHICLE WHICH IS THE X164 CHASSIS HAS A REAR FIXED PANORAMIC SUNROOF THAT IS MADE OUT OF POLYCARBONATE. THE POLYCARBONATE SUNROOF GLASS IS BREAKING DOWN ON THE INSIDE OF THE PANEL AND IS CRACKING. THIS POSES A SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO THE FACT THAT ONCE IT CRACKS AND DEGRADES TO A CERTAIN POINT IT WILL BREAK. IF THIS PANEL BREAKS WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT CAN FLY OFF THE VEHICLE IN TURN HITTING CARS BEHIND ME CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE OTHER SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT WHEN IT BREAKS IT MORE THAN LIKELY WOULD CAUSE INJURY TO OCCUPANTS OF MY VEHICLE THAT WOULD BE SITTING IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO A BODY SHOP AS WELL AS THE MERCEDES BENZ DEALER AND THEY HAVE AGREED THAT IT IS CRACKING AND IS BREAKING DOWN STRUCTURALLY SPEAKING AND THAT IT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT BREAKS. IT IS NOT A MATTER OF IF, BUT WHEN. I ALSO HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT POLYCARBONATE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES DUE TO THE FACT THAT BETWEEN THE HEAT AND BODY FLEX WHICH CAUSES THE STRESS CRACKS. THIS IS A FACT THAT POLYCARBONATE PANELS SHOULD NOT BE INSTALLED IN ANY CASE WHERE THERE WILL BE STRESS. DUE TO THE BODY FLEX THESE PANELS INSTALLED ON THESE MERCEDES BENZ SUV'S HAVE A PRETTY GOOD AMOUNT OF STRESS AND COUPLED WITH THE INTENSE UV EXPOSURE BEING ON THE TOP OF THE VEHICLE IS CAUSING THESE TO BREAK DOWN. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE SUV'S BUT MERCEDES BENZ DOESN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH IT. I CAN'T GET ANYBODY TO RETURN CALLS ON THIS AND MERCEDES HAS NOT WANTED TO DEAL WITH IT. THIS SHOULD BE AT THE TOP OF THE SAFETY RECALL LIST FOR THESE VEHICLES. I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH HOW THIS IS ANMAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. OUR FAMILY OWNS 5 VEHICLES OF THE SAME TYPE (MERCEDES GL). ALL HAD OR CONTINUE TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE RPM SENSOR AFTER ABOUT 30.000 MILES. THIS PROBLEM CAUSES DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE THE CAR JUST SHUTS DOWN AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE ANYMORE. WE INFORMED THE CHAIRMAN OF MERCEDES BENZ, DR. DIETER ZETSCHE, ABOUT THE ONGOING PROBLEM. THE BOARD'S RESPONSE WAS THAT THESE ARE ALL ISOLATED INCIDENTS ALTHOUGH ALL OF OUR 5 VEHICLES CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MERCEDES CLAIMS THAT THEY ARE UNAWARE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS WITH OTHER GLS AS WELL. HOWEVER, NOT ONLY DO OUR 5 GLS SHOW THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WE FOUND OUT THAT OTHER GLS HAVE THIS PROBLEM AS WELL. TWO MERCEDES DEALERSHIPS WE USE IN THE UNITED STATES ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THAT'S WHY THEY GIVE SMALL DISCOUNTS ON THE SENSOR PART AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. BUT WE FEEL, BECAUSE OF THE SECURITY RISK, THAT THIS PROBLEM DEFINITELY WARRANTS A RECALL.

THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" IS ON, WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY TOLD, " THE AD BLUE TANK IS CORRODED." I HAVE ALWAY FUELED WITH DISEL RECOMMENDED BY MERCEDES. HOW CAN TANK GET CORRODED SO EARLY. I SUSPECT FAULTY IN THE MANUFACTURING. I REQUEST YOU TO DO NECESSARY INVESTIGATION INTO IT. AFTER A LONG TRIP WITH THE 2010 MERCEDES GL350 BLUETEC, I NOTICED FRESH OIL ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. I TOOK THE GL350 TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE THE DAY AFTER, AND THE MECHANIC NOTED THAT THERE IS SIGNIFICANT OIL UNDER THE ENGINE. FEW DAYS AFTER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I TOOK THE GL350 IN FOR A CHECK, AND ANOTHER MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE OIL COOLER SEAL IS BROKEN CAUSING THE OIL LEAK. IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAULT WITH MERCEDES OM642 ENGINE IN MY GL350.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCEDES BENZ GL350. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWELVE TIMES PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. AFTER EACH FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. 2010 MERCEDES BENZ GL 350. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A FRACTURED STEERING COLUMN, WATER PUMP LEAK AND ENGINE OIL LEAK. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AT 11,763 THE STEERING COLUMN JACKET TUBE COVERING MOUNT FRACTURED, WHICH CAUSED BINDING AND WEAR ON THE SURROUNDING TRIM. THE COVERING AND TRIM WERE REPLACED. AT 26,163 THE WATER PUMP AND GASKET WERE REPLACED. THEN AT 50,548 MILES, AN ENGINE OIL LEAKED DEVELOPED FROM THE OIL COOLER, R&R TURBO CHARGER, R&R LEFT AND RIGHT CHARGE AIR MANIFOLDS. ALL OF THE SEALS WERE REPLACED.

THIS IS A DIESEL-ENGINE 2010 MERCEDES GL350 PURCHASED IN AUGUST 2010 (8 MONTHS AGO). IT IS CURRENTLY INOPERABLE AND THE DEALER IS CITING COMPLETE FUEL SYSTEM CORROSION DUE TO WATER IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE FIRST INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WAS A CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE GOING TO "LIMP MODE" (WHERE THE COMPUTER KEEPS THE CAR AT 20 MILES PER HOUR WITH LOW POWER - A DANGER ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON HILLS). FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY DUE TO THE ONSET OF LIMP-MODE. BUT THE ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR IS $15,492.03 AND WARRANTY IS BEING DENIED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF THE ISSUE OF WATER IN THE FUEL PRIOR TO THE COMPLETE CORRUPTION OF THE FUEL SYSTEM AND THEREFORE NO OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE ANY POTENTIAL CORRECTIVE ACTION TO MINIMIZE DAMAGE. ALL DIESEL USED IN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT VARIOUS RETAIL LOCATIONS IN CALIFORNIA. THUS FAR NO DETAIL HAS BEEN GIVEN AS TO HOW MUCH WATER WAS IN THE FUEL, HOW LONG THIS CORROSION PROCESS MIGHT HAVE TAKEN, OR WHETHER THERE WERE ANY MALFUNCTIONS IN ANY PART OF THE SYSTEM (E.G., FUEL AND WATER FILTERS AND/OR WARNING NOTIFICATIONS) THAT LED TO THIS EXTREME OUTCOME. GIVEN THE EXTREME EXPENSE OF THE PROBLEM, AND THE MANY QUESTIONS STILL REMAINING AS TO THE CAUSE, WE THOUGHT IT IMPORTANT TO BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE NHTSA.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCEDES-BENZ GL 550. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TAILGATE MOTION SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN CLOSING THE TAILGATE AND THERE WAS AN OBJECT IN THE PATH WAY OF IT AN ALARM WILL SOUND AND THE TAILGATE SHOULD REOPEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF CHILDREN WERE IN THE AREA OF THE TAILGATE CLOSING THE TAILGATE A SERIOUS INJURY COULD OCCUR. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE SUSPENSION WAS MAKING A CLANKING NOISE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A TURN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE LOWER BALL JOINT REPLACED ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THAT REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHICH ALSO DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT STRUTS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FINAL ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE FAILURE WAS WHEN THE DEALER SPRAYED WAX ON THE SUSPENSION AND THE BALL JOINTS. THE CONTACT HAS CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE SUSPENSION AND TAILGATE BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS IGNORING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
