I purchased a Certified Mercedes GLE 350 with many advanced safety features. Including a SOS feature that allows I believe detects an accident and reports it to Mercedes as well as allows me to press the SOS button to manually contact Mercedes to report a need for help plus other functions. Thnis is a very important safety feature to me as I am getting order and may need assistance. In addition years ago a family friend was involved in a non fatal accident at night and was injured and traped in the car. Although the initial accident was not fatal, because the car was not located for some time and the friend was injured, bu the time the car was located the friend died due to the length of time traped in the car. One of the basic items listed on my Mercedes sell sheet is item 351eCall-emergency system. As I understand it this eCall device is part of the SOS system and is also a critical part of the advanced EMERGENCY and convience systems included with the car such as car locator, remote start and remote lock and unlock, as well as several other featurs I was sold. Recently I was informed by Mercedes that they would be discontinuing this safety feature as of 1/1/2026 and they have not offered any replacment / solution. I recently was on a road trip and caught in a sevier weather situation and tried to use the system and it did not work, which placed me in a potentially dangerious situation. I believe that people will loose their lives because Mercedes has suspended a important emergency safety feature. I have checked with my local Mercedes dealer who contacted Mercedes USA and they told me Mercedes USA is not offering any solution. I believe NHTSA should get involved to require Mercedes USA to find a solution to help prevent the loss of lives. This is an important "emergency system" that was sold as part of the vehicle. It is important to owners of all ages, but even more important to elderly drivers that choose Mercedes for their safety features.

Panoramic sunroof suddenly exploded while driving. It was the rear section of the sunroof. There was a loud boom sound. There were no vehicles nearby kicking up rocks, etc. I jumped and screamed but managed to remain somewhat calm trying to figure out where the sound came from in the vehicle. I then realized it was the panoramic sunroof as sunlight began to trickle into the vehicle. Fortunately, the shade had been pulled closed. Otherwise, more tiny shards of glass would have immediately fallen on me. I handed to situation over to my insurance company for repair.

I am writing to formally report a serious safety incident involving my Mercedes-Benz vehicle. While driving home recently, without any warning, I heard a sudden explosion that sounded like a gunshot. In an instant, shattered glass fell throughout the interior of the car, covering my daughter, grandson, and me. Fortunately, the only other vehicle nearby was at a considerable distance; otherwise, the outcome could have been catastrophic. Our car swerved sharply as a result of the shock. We came to realize that the sunroof had exploded and completely shattered.

My sunroof exploded for no reason. There was no accident or impact. The car was stationary and the glass just blew out.

With my foot on the brake, the car suddenly revved up and accelerated into my garage taking the garage door and the store belongings inside.i have video and pictures of the tire marks when I stepped harder on the brake to stop the acceleration. The transmission on the car had works done by two Mercedes Benz dealers and service personnel indicated the manufacturer has stopped making this hybrid model due to multiple problems. This car while driving on the freeway at 70 mi per hour suddenly flased a dashboard warning that say "start engine or the connections will shut down".Since it is middle of the night I had to exit t t he freeway and call a tow truck because I felt the car will stall for it happened once before. The dealer checked the car and said nothing is wrong with t h e car.I feel totally unsafe driving this car for fear of injury yo myself or to others I have videos and pictures to support this incident

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
8 complaints
I purchased a 2017 MB GLE 350 in 2022. But it’s only recently where I’ve noticed that my halogen headlights do not provide enough light on the road during night time driving. Especially in the rain. I’ve researched a bit and see that MANY consumers have complained about the headlights, but there is no solution as MB does not offer an aftermarket upgrade. I either have to drive with my high beams on,or not drive at night. The other alternative is to buy another car which is ridiculous. For the price of this car, the exterior lighting should be better.

Low beam Headlights will not adjust properly
Feb 27, 2024
We purchased a used 2017 GLE 350 two years ago from a Mercedes dealership. The first year or so I had not driven it at night as during Covid when we did go out after dark we usually took my husband’s vehicle and he drove. When I finally did drive the GLE at night I found that I had trouble seeing the road at any reasonable distance from the front of the car and that there is almost no illumination of the roadside even very close to the vehicle. When I mentioned this to my husband he said he had not had an issue with it but since I did we would take it to the dealership and have the headlights checked. At this point I’ve driven it quite a few times at night and know that if I was on an unfamiliar road with no roadside lighting it would be dangerous to drive, consequently I’m afraid to drive my own car at night. We have taken the car to the dealership with this complaint and they “adjusted” the headlights which made no difference I could perceive. As this is dangerous I think it’s ludicrous for such an expensive vehicle made by a company I’ve previously trusted to look out for our safety to produce vehicles with sub- standard exterior lighting thereby creating such unsafe conditions. I’ve finally done some research on your website, the Mercedes site, as well as other sites I found using Google and am shocked to find out that this issue has been reported both to you and to MB multiple times and that nothing has been done because the lights are “within, if barely, limitations”. We’ve now phoned the dealer to see if there is something they can do such as change to different bulbs and they are going to get back to us with a price to upgrade the lights. It’s sad that my previous vehicles, a 2014 GLK and a Nissan Maxima’s headlights were far superior to the 2017 GLE. When will you take steps to address this issue? How many accidents have to happen before someone forces MB to do something to correct this unsafe condition?

THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS 2017 MB GLE350 ARE A HAZARD. THEY DO NOT LIGHT UP THE ROAD WAY IN THE DARK AND ESPECIALLY IN THE RAIN. CURVY AND UNKNOWN ROADS ARE TREACHEROUS UNLESS THERE IS A CAR IN FRONT LEADING THE WAY. WE ARE NO LONGER DRIVING THIS CAR AT NIGHT. UNFORTUNATELY, I MUST DRIVE IT TO WORK IN THE DARK IN THE MORNINGS. THE DEALERSHIP, FELIX SABATES IN CHARLOTTE, NC, WILL NOT DO ANY FIX TO THE HEADLIGHTS. APPARENTLY WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR WE NEEDED TO PAY EXTRA FOR THE LIGHT PACKAGE THAT WORKS WHICH WAS NOT DISCUSSED OR OFFERED. THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTS BUT THEY ARE NOT ADDRESSING IT.

I have a recall pending on my vehicle but i couldn’t get service from authorized dealer here in Las Vegas. The dealer declined to service on my vehicle because I don’t have a title for car. I purchased a car from CarMax and have a finance with Santander USA. Please help I want to have this recall fix because it could be dangerous on the road.

This vehicle had a recall to place a water drain in the rear truck section to drain water if it somehow entered the vehicle to prevent the fuel pump module from failing. This vehicle suddenly stalled and was towed to the dealer. The dealer reports the vehicle had water Intrusion as reported by the dealer and subsequently the fuel pump module was exposed to water and failed which the recall was to prevent if occurred requiring repair and replacement of the fuel pump control module not covered by the dealer

This letter is an attempt to connect to the correct channels seeking resolution regarding a recent recall. My 2017 Mercedes GLE350 stalled in the rain and I subsequently had to get it towed to the dealership for repairs. And upon completion of the repairs, I received a recall notice about the specific issue that was just addressed. Pursuant to the recall notice, I sought a reimbursement for the repairs in which I was directed to Mercedes Customer Care and received a case number. The dealership is being a little hard-nosed regarding the reimbursement so I’m seeking recourse through official channels. I’ve attached the recall notice, invoice of repairs, and all other pertinent information regarding this issue. An expedient resolution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.

THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK IN MERCEDES BENZ GLE 350 WAS RUPTURED BY ROAD DEBRIS DUE TO LACK OF SHIELD PROTECTION TO THE TANK. THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I-45 FROM DALLAS TO HOUSTON ON AUG 12 2017. THE HALF TANK OF THE GAS WAS LEAKING OUT WITHIN 10 MINUTES. THANKS TO NO TRAFFIC MET DURING THAT TIME, OTHERWISE WE COULD GET FIRE.
Sep 10, 2017
MY CAR IS 2017 MERCEDES BENZ GLE 350 SUV. LAST SATURDAY (AUG 12), I DROVE ON HIGHWAY I-45 WITH MY FAMILY FROM DALLAS TO HOUSTON. SUDDENLY I HEARD SOMETHING HIT MY CAR UNDERNEATH, BUT THE CAR WAS MOVING LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED DURING THAT TIME. AFTER AROUND 10 MINUTES, ONE DRIVER DROVE UP AND KEPT WARNING ME TO STOP. I PULLED OVER MY SUV AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL WAS LEAKING BEHIND ON THE HIGHWAY, I LOOKED AT THE UNDERNEATH OF THE CAR, FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS BROKEN WITH A HOLE, BECAUSE IT WAS A PLASTIC FUEL TANK AND THERE WAS NO UNDER GUARD PROTECTING THE TANK. WE REALLY APPRECIATED THAT DRIVER STOPPED US ON TIME, HE WAS A FIGHTER WORKING IN FIRE DEPART IN HOUSTON. IF HE DIDN'T COME UP, MY SUV COULD GET FIRE AND AN SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR COULD LOST FUEL QUICKLY AND STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY. I JUST HAD THIS NEW SUV FOR 8 MONTHS AND QUICKLY MET THIS INSTANCE, FROM MY INSTANCE, IT CLEARLY PROVED THAT THE FUEL TANK WITH NO UNDER GUARD WAS EASILY BROKEN BY ROAD DEBRIS. THIS SUB IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND IT BRINGS DANGER TO CONSUMER ANY TIME.

STEERING
5 complaints
The contact owns a 2017 Mercedes GLE. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the electronic power steering. The vehicle was repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V574000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.

While traveling at approximately 45 MPH in multi-lane highway traffic, WITHOUT WARNING the vehicle's power steering suddenly failed. Concurrently a red display message appeared in the instrument cluster stating "Power Steering Malfunction - See Owner's Manual". ALL steering assistance was lost at that point and the vehicle had to be maneuvered with great effort out of traffic to a safe offroad location. Vehicle is a 2017 Mercedes GLE 350 (166 chassis) with 22,000 miles. Initial inspection of the vehicle by a Mercedes mechanic revealed a fault in the EPS (electrical power steering), and the presence of fault code P063500. Subsequent inspection of the vehicle by the local Mercedes dealer revealed the same fault code along with the advisory that the vehicle is "technically not safe to drive..." and that a new electric power steering rack is required. Service advisor further offered the comment that "1-2 vehicles present like this monthly." Online search of Mercedes Xentry Tips for fault code P063500 reveals topic number LI46.35-P-0555436 (dated 01-12-2017), with the acknowledgement of power steering malfunction occurrences in model 204, 207 and 212 vehicles. No reference is made to model 166 vehicles. Mention is made of performing a software update of the electric power steering control unit via "Adaptations" in the 204, 207 and 212 vehicles.

The contact owns a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE350. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the message "Power Steering Malfunction. See Operator Manual" was displayed. The steering became extremely difficult to turn. The contact was unable to maneuver the steering wheel and stopped the vehicle. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road with the assistance of a bystander who drove the vehicle. The contact stated that upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the warning message disappeared, and the vehicle regained power steering functionality. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her residence; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the actuator module and the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000. The contact stated that the manufacturer did not offer much help. The dealer eventually offered to help pay for half of the cost and repairs were made.

The vehicle only has about 10K+ miles but encountered "Power Steering Malfunction See Operator’s Manual" error message, and then the Power Steering stopped working, became stiff, and could not be moved. The vehicle got stuck in the mid of the road becoming very dangerous for the driver, passengers, and all other moving vehicles on the road too. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who said that the Powering Steer Rack was not working and needed to be replaced. The cost is about $7000. Mercedes had multiple recalls for very similar Power Steer problems in the past a few years including vehicles made in the same year as mine (2017). However they never included the GLE model in their recalls in the past. Apparently GLE was affected by the wide-spread Power Steer Malfunction problem which they already knew about.

on Several occasions while either backing into my drive way, parking stall or out into the roadway, when i shifted the vehicle into gear, either Drive or reverse, the vehicle failed to do either. I had to turn off the vehicle and restart in order to have it change gear. This was dangerous as when the vehicle failed it was in the line of traffic flow and if another vehicle had not seen me in time it would have caused a collision. Component has not been inspected by police or insurance as of yet but I do have it into Mercedes dealer for inspection as of right now There were no warning lamps or alerts lit at the time or before the failure I Purchased the vehicle in Texas in 2017 while I lived there, but I have in the last couple months relocated to Canada so I provided my old address associated with the vehicle and the Mercedes customer database, but I do not have a home in Canada as of yet and I am staying with relatives. WE BOUGHT OUR BRAND NEW CAR IN DECEMBER 2016. SINCE WE BOUGHT IT, WE'VE HAD A MULTITUDE OF THINGS THAT WOULD GO WRONG. FIRST, A BRAKE LIGHT WARNING WENT ON FOR NO REASON, THEN OUR A/C WASN'T WORKING WHICH OCCURRED ON MAY 2017. WE EXPERIENCED ALOT OF MINOR ISSUES INCLUDING THE PHONE, BLUETOOTH CONNECTION, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD GO ON. IF YOU STOPPED THE CAR, AND RESET IT, THIS WOULD GO AWAY. THE "HOLD BRAKE" FOR A HILL WOULD WORK AND THEN NOT WORK; WINDOWS WOULD GO DOWN ON THEIR OWN. THE SIRIUS RADIO WOULD WORK INTERMITTENTLY. ON THE LAST INCIDENT WITH THE SIRIUS RADIO, WHICH OCCURRED IN JULY 2018, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND WE WERE CALLED AND TOLD OUR CAR HAD A WATER ISSUE. APPARENTLY, THE SIRIUS MODULE SITS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND WHEN BROKEN DOWN, THE AFORMENTIONED WAS DISCOVERED. IT WAS BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT MB HAD ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WHICH DESCRIBED SYMPTOMS THAT WE HAD WITH OUR CAR. THE BULLETIN DESCRIBES THE ISSUE AS "MALFUNCTIONS OF VARIOUS CONTROL UNITS, AND/OR ON BOARD POWER SUPPLY PROBLEMS CAUSED BY WATER IN THE CONTROL UNIT TRAY UNDER THE DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER SEAT [DISLOCATED, PINCHED OR LEAKING CONDENSATION HOSE ON THE A/C HOUSING WHICH RESULTS IN WATER COLLECTING IN THE A/C HOUSING OR LEAKING, RESULTING IN WATER ENTERING THE INTERIOR]. NOTE THAT WHEN WE HAD THE CAR SERVICED FOR THE A/C, THE DEALER SAID OUR CAR WAS FINE, HOWEVER, WHEN WE GOT THE CAR BACK, OUR AIR CONDITIONING WAS FRIGID. - ANOTHER SYMPTOM OF THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT, AS OF THIS DATE, MB IS REFUSING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

REAR HATCH OPENS ON ITS OWN INTERMITTENTLY WHILE PARKED AND LOCKED; DOORS REMAIN LOCKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN DRIVEWAY AS WELL AS IN SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOTS. WE HAVE HAD TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, BUT THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN KEYS ARE INSIDE HOUSE ON A TABLE. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY FAULT CODES; TOLD US TO TRY LEATHER CASE OVER KEY FOB. DEALER STATES THERE IS NOTHING MORE THAT THEY CAN DO.
Sep 11, 2018
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED, THE DOOR LOCK WILL AUTOMATICALLY LOCK ON ITS OWN - WITH THE KEYS SILL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE "KEYLESS GO" FEATURE THAT WILL ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO LOCK/UNLOCK THE VEHICLE WITHOUT USING THE "KEYLESS REMOTE FOB'. AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE, IF THE REMOTE FOB IS DETECTED IN THE VEHICLE, THE DOORS ARE NOT TO LOCK. I HAVE TWO INFANTS AND I WOULD LOAD THEM INTO THE BACK SEATS, AS I CLOSE THE REAR DOOR, AND TRY TO ENTER THE DRIVER SEAT, ALL THE DOORS WOULD LOCK (THE REMOTE FOB WOULD STILL BE IN THE VEHICLE AND SHOULD PREVENT THE DOORS FROM LOCKING). I AM NOW LOCKED OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND BOTH INFANTS ARE LOCKED IN. I AM NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS, BECAUSE THE REMOTE FOB IS ALSO LOCKED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS WILL ALSO HAPPEN IF I EXIT THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE DOORS WILL THEN AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WHEN I CLOSED THE DRIVER'S DOOR, NOW WITH BOTH INFANTS LOCKED IN THE REAR SEATS. FORTUNATELY WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IT WAS DURING THE EVENING ON A COOL DAY AND I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO RETRIEVE MY EXTRA FOB TO OPEN THE DOORS. IF THIS HAPPENED ON A VERY HOT DAY, THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS OR LIFE THREATENING INJURY MAY HAVE OCCURRED. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT WITH THE KEYLESS GO SYSTEM. I RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND THIS DEFECT HAS HAPPENING TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE WITH MERCEDES BENZ VEHICLE. THE KEYLESS GO SYSTEM THAT MERCEDES USES IS IMPLEMENTED INTO DIFFERENT MODELS ACROSS THE ENTIRE MERCEDES BENZ LINEUP OF VEHICLES THEY MANUFACTURE. SO THIS ISSUES IS NOT ISOLATED TO JUST MY MAKE/MODEL MERCEDES, BUT MULTIPLE MAKES/MODELS/YEARS THAT HAS THE KEYLESS GO FEATURE INSTALLED IN IT. THIS DEFECT HAS HAPPENED TO ME MULTIPLE TIMES AND I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE TO HAVE THIS CHECKED OUT. THEY STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE OR FIND ANY FAULT CODES IN THE COMPUTERS.

On July 3, 2024 I turned right out of a parking lot onto a busy road. The car sped up on its own and started speeding. It took me a couple of seconds to realize what was happening and put on the brake. The car ran through a red light, other cars were able to avoid hitting me. The car did stop then. There were no warning signs that this was going to happen. The dealership is going to investigate tomorrow. The car seems to be running fine since.

THIS IS A FOLLOW-UP TO MY 10/1/18 REPORT TO NHTSA: 2/21/19 UPDATE: I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MB DATED 2/13/19 STATING THAT AFTER A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF THIS MATTER, "THE VEHICLE'S ACTIVE BRAKE SYSTEM (ABA) IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED". ON 11/12/18 I TRADED THIS CAR IN FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE (NOT MB). I TOOK THE RESPONSIBLE ACTION TO PROTECT MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS SINCE MB WAS NOT CAPABLE OF DELIVERING A CAUSE AND SUBSEQUENT REPAIR OF THEIR OWN VEHICLE'S SERIOUS DEFECT. THE LETTER WENT ON TO SAY "THAT THERE IS NO BASIS FOR ANY CLAIM AGAINST MBUSA". THEY ARE MORE CONCERNED WITH LITIGATION THAN MANUFACTURING AND SERVICING A VEHICLE THAT IS SAFE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. I WAS FULLY EXPECTING THAT MB WOULD WANT TO GET THIS VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND AT THE VERY LEAST REMOVE THE PORTION OF THE SOFTWARE THAT CAUSED THIS INCIDENT. INSTEAD THEY SENT ME THE ATTACHED LETTER THAT SOMEHOW MADE THE ISSUE MINE BY SAYING THAT ABA "IS AN ASSIST SYSTEM THAT IS INTENDED TO AID BUT NOT REPLACE THE DRIVER". AT NO TIME WAS I IN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT DECIDED TO DO A 4 WHEEL LOCKUP. FOR THESE REASONS I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THE BRAND. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED WITH A BRAND THAT I BELIEVED TO BE A PREMIUM VEHICLE FROM A MANUFACTURER THAT TOOK DRIVER SAFETY SERIOUSLY. I WILL REPRODUCE THIS EMAIL IN THE EVENT THAT SOME 3RD PARTY WANTS DOCUMENTATION THAT I HAVE WARNED MBUSA OF THEIR PRODUCT DEFECT AND THAT THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO PROTECT OR WARN THE PUBLIC ABOUT THIS ISSUE. AS I HAVE STATED IN THE PAST, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND NOT AN ISOLATED ANOMALY. YOU ARE ACTING RECKLESSLY IN NOT TAKING APPROPRIATE ACTION.

Was at a red light turning right, as soon as I turned right the engine lost power, and the car would not move. Since I am pressing the gas pedal all I can hear is revving noise, but the car was not moving. Since my foot was on the gas and not the brakes the person behind me was not aware that my car was not moving forward. The car behind me was barely able to avoid crashing into me and swerved around me. The driver behind me was lucky that there were no cars on his left. The service technician at the dealer informed me that the problem with the engine type that I have is very common. I called Mercedes and was told there is nothing they can do. They should issue a voluntary recall or at least warn drivers and compensate them for repairs needed or was done. There is a flaw in the design of the V167 2.0 engine and Mercedes is aware of it. The transmission does not shift from first to second and created several dangerous situations in whichI tried to enter the highway. I called the corporate headquarters to make a complaint and was sent to the dealership to file a lemon law complaint. The Transmission specialist at AAMCO said the transmission parts are in good shape, but the problem is that there is too much clearance between the transmission casing and the transmission parts. I told him that this is a defective engineering and these vehicles should be recalled. When I did further research, I found out that I was not alone and that this is a well-documented problem with the Mercedes transmissions. I am reaching out to this agency because I believe that this situation has created a dangerous problem that should be looked into. The following link details these defects. [XXX] The problem with why this has not been reported is that many people that on these cars do not want to look as though they cannot afford the car and just have the vehicle repaired. I truly believe that the government should look into this before someone is seriously hurt because I am not the only one that has had this experience. The repairs/corrections will cost me $7,900 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The sunroof rails are damage from wind force while driving. Sunroof is unusable and not covered by warranty. Cheap plastic parts used. Heard of issues where sunroof flipped back. Now am paranoid to use it. There are so many reports available online of problems that there should be a recall.

While driving our 2017 MB GLE 350-4matic at about 40 mph, it spontaneously downshifted to M1. We were in traffic, so this was a very dangerous for us and for the people behind us. We limped to our destination, not knowing what had happened or what to do. When we re-started the car the next day, it seemed ok. But after driving some distance, it spontaneously downshifted to M1 again. We stopped the car, turned it off and re-started it. My mechanic checked the car with his analyzer, which showed that the transmission was not transmitting/displaying gear changes. I am taking my car to another repair shop tomorrow that has a more sophisticated analyzer. When I first explored this problem on the web, there was discussion on a MB website about similar problems. Today, I saw that there is an NHTSA probe into 2015-17 Ford 150 pick-ups having a similar problem to mine, i.e., spontaneous downshifting. Maybe there is a chip problem in the transmission control module for cars of those years. This is a significant safety issue. Thank God we were going 40 mph and not 60 or 70 when this happened.

The contact owns a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE350. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to the dealer, where a water drain plug was installed under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V955000 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH in the rain, the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive to the residence. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle later that day, the check engine warning light was no longer illuminated. The contact stated while driving the following day, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that water accumulation in the spare tire wheel well had damaged the fuel pump control unit, causing the engine to stall while driving. The mechanic determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V955000 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where the same assessment was made; however, the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall because the recall had already been marked as completed. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
1 complaint
Rear trunk lid seal leaking water in rear cargo compartment caused damage to fuel pump. I was driving on a main busy road when without warning the car shut off. The traffic light was about to change so the person behind me was slowing down luckily. There was no warning light, indicator or sound the car just stopped . It stopped in the middle of the road impeding traffic as it stopped near a 4- way intersection at a busy time of day. The car was towed to dealer after extensive examination it was found to be a leak in rear trunk seal. There was no visible damage to seal or water damage in cargo area. I was told this is problem know to Mercedes as they have issued a bulletin on how to repair it. This has been happening for years without a resolution to this problem. I was told in my case it had been leaking over an extended amount of time and there was know way to discover it until the damage is done. I find that hard to believe that Mercedes would not recall this and find a remedy before it results in a serious accident or death. A car stopping on busy road or highway with a fast speed of traffic following is a tragedy waiting to happen. I had no warning of the potential danger I was in until it happened. The damage it causes is around $1,600 for a rubber piece that gets loose and allows water to damage the fuel pump. And because that piece is not covered under extended warranty the burden is put on the owner which it unfair to say the least.

The car losses acceleration power all of sudden while driving. The engine light comes on and car starts shaking. Once you turn off the car and restart it, the engine light goes away and car starts functioning normal. This is dangerous as you are on highway, among fast moving traffic. This has been going for over a year.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
1 complaint
I am writing to bring to your attention a critical security issue regarding the rear door locks of the 2017 Mercedes GLE model VIN - [XXX] . Upon attempting to lock the vehicle using the key fob, I have encountered a malfunction where the rear door behind the passenger seat fails to secure properly. Despite attempts to engage the locking mechanism, this specific door remains open, triggering the vehicle alarm system when accessed. This issue poses a significant safety risk for both occupants and belongings within the vehicle. As a concerned consumer, I am deeply troubled by the presence of such a critical flaw in a luxury automobile. Given the potential ramifications for driver and passenger security, I urge the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to conduct a thorough investigation into the root cause of this malfunction. It is imperative that swift action be taken to address and rectify this security vulnerability to ensure the continued safety and peace of mind for Mercedes GLE owners and their families. Thank you for your attention to this matter. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

SUSPENSION
1 complaint
01/22/2024 NHTSA Complaint – GLE350 4Matic The front suspension, either the control arm or upper arm, feels loose and noise is coming from the front suspension as if a bolt or bolts are loose. Base on recall information for the 2016 GLE350 4Matic, NHTSA campaign ID: 17V081000, REPORT DATE 02/07/2017, the loose bolt(s) may cause improper wheel tracking, increasing the risk of a crash. Vehicle owners are instructed to contact dealer to inspect the tightness of the bolt connecting the upper control arm and the axle stub on the affected vehicles, replacing the upper control arm, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 2017. I request that NHTSA add my vehicle VIN number to the recall and add all GLS 350 4Matic vehicles to the recall for model year 2017. I do not want my wife or I to be involve in a crash as a result of the negligence and poor-quality control of Mercedes Benz. I contacted MBUSA and Hendrik Mercedes of Charlotte, NC on 01/22/2024 and both refuse the inspect and fix the issue without me paying for the resolution. I told them that I refuse to pay to fix a problem that is the result of poor-quality control and quality assurance. I requested that MBUSA pay to fix the issue as they have done for the 2016 GLE350 4MATIC with the same problem. I am fearful for the life of my family. This matter is of very serious concern to my family's life, health and well-being. Please address this matter immediately, as we drive the SUV daily.

VISIBILITY/WIPER
1 complaint
Wednesday Dec 27th 2023 at approx 6pm. While enroute on Interstate 81 South at Hagerstown VA in heavy rain, darkness and heavy traffic at highway speed the windshield wiper arm on the passenger side (right) suddenly collided with the drivers side arm - the wiper blade flew off and was lost the wiper arms then became entangled and ceased to operate. I believe I was quite fortunate to find an opening between trucks to get to the right side shoulder and pull the vehicle off the road. On investigation I found that the right side wiper arm was rotating freely and not operating - obviously having suffered a mechanical failure. I could not determine any immediate cause. The left side wiper arm seemed to operate normally and after waiting for the rain to subside I was able to continue the journey to an overnight stop. In my view this is an event that should never occur - the right side wiper arm is a complex mechanical linkage which operates at high velocity to sweep the area. This resulted in a complete loss of visibility at 55mph. There could have been very serious consequences. There was no warning, sound or sign of an impending failure. I will record a video of the current state of the wiper arms. I will be giving the vehicle to the Mercedes Dealer in Naples, Florida for inspection and repair. It is my judgement that given reasonable weather my trip can be completed safely.

When the car seat is in the rear facing position and in the most upright position the rear of the seat can be lifted off the base with very little force. I have videos that show this behavior but photos don't really do it justice.

TIRES
1 complaint
I have a 2017 Mercedes AMG GLE 43 Coupe SUV. In just over a year both my rear OE Cross Contact LX Sport 315/40R-21 111 H Continental tires have blown out while driving. This past Christmas the 2nd one blew at highway speed limit (55-60 MPH) almost causing a tragic accident to my family. One tire had apprx 32K miles and the 2nd apprx 39K. Both tires disintegrated around the inside rims. I was unaware of any recall of some Continental tires at the time and can't find my tires on the list and understand the deadline was last August '21. Without knowing of the recall I subsequently purchased 2 OE replacement tires at a installed cost of about $700. The tire shop that installed the new tires stated it looked to be a manufacturing issue. While the tires were removed and I assume recycled or something by the tire shop, I do have a few pictures of the damage. I have also submitted a complaint today to Continental Customer Service.

PURCHASE CAR WITH ABOUT 5K MILES, WITHIN TWO WEEKS HAD TRACTION ISSUES WHERE THE BACK END WOULD FISH TAIL IN RAIN. TOOK BACK TO DEALER SERVICE RIDER CHECKED AND SAID JUST PUT AIR IN TIRES AND IT SHOULD BE FINE. NEXT RAIN STORM SAME THING HAPPENED WENT BACK TO DEALER THEY SAID THEY LOOKED AT IT AND EVERYTHING IS FINE. STILL NOT SURE WHY, BUT TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN AND NEARLY SPUN OUT ON BUSY HIGHWAY WENT BACK TO DEALER THIS TIME THEY TELL ME 2 TIRES ARE BAD. THEY AGREE TO PAY FOR 2 AND I BOUGHT 2 ONLY 22K MILES... NOW REALLY WORRIED WHEN IT RAINS I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE, BUT WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN CALLED THEM AND SAID SOMETHING IS GOT TO BE DONE THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO I NEED TO OPEN A "TICKET" WITH MBS TO HAVE MANUFACTURER CHECK FOR ISSUES. I AM VERY CONCERNED THIS IS NOT GOING TO GET RESOLVED AND I AM STUCK WITH A 70,000 LEMON. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR IT SHOULD NOT BE SPINNING OUT IN RAIN WITH BRAND NEW TIRES. SERVICE HAS REVIEWED IT 4 TIMES AND PUT NEW TIRES ON IT, NOT SURE OF ANY OTHER THINGS THEY HAVE DONE.

SINCE LEASING THIS VEHICLE ON DECEMBER 1, 2016, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE SEAT BELT, ERRONEOUS WARNING ALARMS, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER. FIRST, WHILE DRIVING IN A SNOW STORM IN JANUARY 2017, THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER WENT FLYING OFF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER. SECOND, WHILE DRIVING ON VARIOUS DATES/TIMES, THE CAR BEGAN SOUNDING AN ALARM AND A MESSAGE APPEARED THAT THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED VIDEO. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT INTO THE SHOP ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. DURING THE FIRST OCCASION, THE PUSH BUTTON WAS REPLACED. ON THE SECOND OCCASION, THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE CAR DISPLAYS THIS ALARM AT RANDOM TIMES DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE KEY IS IN THE VEHICLE. THE ALARM IS DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING. LASTLY, ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE SEAT BELT WENT INTO THE SEAT MECHANISM PREVENTING THE DRIVER FROM USING THE SEAT BELT. THIS WAS ALSO REPAIRED BY MERCEDES-BENZ.
