Cannot shift the gear from P to any other positions, and unable to move the car. The issue has been existing from mid 2022, three years ago.

After fully stop with pressing brake pedal, try to shift the gear from D (Drive) to R (Reverse) but cannot shift the automatic gear position from D to R (reverse) gear. In order to shift to R gear position, I needed to shutdown and restart the engine. This has been clearly recurrent since 3 years ago and mostly happen in front of my garage to park backward, but sometimes very dangerous in the middle of road, when needed to make tight U-turn. Please take care of this issue. Thank you.

After 60,000 miles the seal of the the cylinder head cover starts to leak. It takes around $1800 to fix and the reseal. The material use to release is way better and lasts longer compared to what car comes with. This I found out from the Mercedes Benz service department. Due to this leak the car starter gets soaked in the engine oil and car is enabled to even start up. Lots of customers end up toeing their cars to Mercedes dealer. The complaint is that Mercedes is putting the parts on their car that are cheap and going to last only 60k that is cheating and once user pays for the repairs they will put much better part. This leak has happened to my car and With only 60k miles on it. Mercedes Benz is cheating the people by putting the cheapest part and charging premium on cars. They label this as normal wear and tear, even tho car is kept well maintained. They put on much better seal after the seal and charging customers $1800. They could have use this seal first time when car was being made. I have been owner of Toyota. Honda, infinity and family member owned BMW, Jaguar and no car had this problem for the life of car( 200,000 to 300,000) miles and I have never heard of this issue until now. Even this is happening at 65,000 miles right after the warranty is expired. Car will slip from drive to neutral while driving and when stopped. Need to shut car off numerous times to get it back into drive. Very dangerous when this happens on the highway

Was not able to change automatic transmission gear to R (Reverse) w/o restarting the engine. (the brake pedal is firmly pressed for sure) For all three cases: 1) D (Drive) to R or 2) P (park) to R or 3) N to R. The only way to change to R was: 1) move gear to P 2) shutoff the engine, 3) restart the engine, 4) and then able to change the gear to R. This has happened several times in this year, 2023.

when i tried to apply brakes on Nov 27th, 2022, the brakes were not applying for 4-5 seconds inspite of pushing the brake few times. After 5 seconds the brakes were working. to avoid collision i had to change the lane quicKly and luckily there was no one in the next lane. Please note that i have changed the front and rear brake pads few months back (Aug 2022). As my brake pads are new, i assume there is some fault in the overall brake system which I would like to bring notice to the United States transportation Department and to the Mercedes company. Please advise on how to proceed from here to ensure my car is safe.

AFTER 20K OF DRIVING, THE BRAKE PAD ON THE CALIPER OF THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WENT METAL TO METAL. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ON THE DASH TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE LEFT REAR INNER PADS WERE LOW AND THEN THAT THE PAD AND ROTOR WERE METAL TO METAL, BECAUSE THERE IS NO INDICATOR SENSOR ON THE LEFT SIDE ONLY ON THE RIGHT REAR.

BRAKES NEED REPLACING AFTER ONLY 11 MONTHS OLD AND 14,000 MILES. LOUD SQUEALING FROM BRAKES UPON APPLYING THEM. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR IN JAN. 2018. REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PAY TO HAVE THE BRAKES REPLACED.

The contact owns a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 equipped with Kenda Tires, Tire Line: Klever, Tire Size: 255/50/R19, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, there was an abnormal popping sound coming from the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the front passenger’s side tire had experienced a blowout. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic and was informed that all four tires were in bad condition and that all four tires needed to be replaced. The front passenger’s side tire was patched, and the vehicle was towed back to the residence. The manufacturer and the dealer who sold the contact the tires were notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The tires were not replaced. The tire failure mileage was approximately 1,000. The vehicle failure mileage was 35,040.

The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where he was informed that the thread on three of his tires (tires unknown) were critically low and needed replaced. The contact then received a recall notice for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V123000 (Tires). The contact had made an appointment and brought the vehicle back to the same dealer where he was informed that tires on the vehicle were not included in the recall. The dealer suggested that the tires be replaced out of pocket. The contact attempted to reach the manufacturer but was unsuccessful in reaching a representative. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

The contact scanned the vehicle with a vehicle scanner and retrieved diagnostic trouble codes that indicated a loss of communication between the fuel pump control unit and the fuel pump. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the contact was informed that there was water accumulation in the spare tire wheel well. The dealer replaced the blown seals and the fuel pump control unit under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V955000 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the failure persisted. The dealer recommended a fuel pump replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

I was driving on the interstate (on I95) and heard a loud pop/bang ! I didn’t know what it was because my AMG exhaust pops and bangs but this was extremely LOUD, I pulled over immediately to the side of the road thinking maybe I blew my engine and upon inspection I noticed my roof panel was broken and it flew off of my car, this is EXTREMELY dangerous had someone been behind me it could have definitely caused a crash. There are multiple reportings of this happening with other Mercedes GLE such as the vehicle I own, I was told my specific vin is not included when the same part and glue were used on my vehicle. This HAS to be looked into

My car randomly swerves in a zigzag motion unexpectedly, nearly causing several accidents. I am scared to drive my car. I have not been able to detect any triggers, as it will do this randomly, regardless of a smooth road, street conditions, weather, speed, freeway, neighborhoods, etc. No warning lamps have come on. Tires are in excellent condition. I have not found any information online, and everything seems to be in perfect working order, tough it is absolutely not.

ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION, CAUSING UNSAFE CONDITION, LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND LOW SPEED COLLISION WITH CONCRETE WALL. VARIOUS WARNING MESSAGES IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER APPEARED. MBUSA INSPECTED VEHICLE, AND AN ELECTRONIC STEERING CONTROL FAULT CODE WAS FOUND. TECHNICIAN STATES IN REPAIR ORDER "STEERING RACK SHORTED" AND "PERFORMED SDS AND FOUND NO COMMUNICATION WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING CONTROL UNIT." MBUSA REFUSED TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY, STATING MBUSA "PERFORMED VERY THOROUGH ANALYSIS OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS DESIGNED WITHOUT DEFECT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT." PRIOR MODEL YEARS OF THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE WERE RECALLED FOR DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS AND WATER INGRESS INTO THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING CONTROL UNIT (SEE: NHTSA SAFETY RECALL REPORT: 17V-241).

CRUISE CONTROL SPEED CANNOT BE CLEARED UNLESS CAR IS STOPPED AND ENGINE TURNED OFF. ONCE SPEED IS SET, THE CRUISE CONTROL CAN BE DISENGAGED, BUT THE SPEED SET CANNOT BE CANCELED. EXAMPLE, SPEED IS SET AT 65MPH. IF CRUISE CONTROL IS DISENGAGED, AND THEN ENGAGED AGAIN, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATE TO 65MPH. THE ONLY WAY TO DECREASE SPEED IS TO REPEATEDLY TAP THE LEVER TO DECREASE SPEED BY 5MPH/TAP. THIS IS UNSAFE AND VERY DISCONCERTING IF YOU ARE TRYING TO SET THE CRUISE FOR A LOWER SPEED SPEED THAN PREVIOUSLY SET. I CONFIRMED THIS PROBLEM TO MERCEDES ON AUGUST 10, 2018.

While driving, the vehicle’s serpentine/fan belt snapped. The loose belt struck and pulled out a sensor plug. Immediately the engine shut down and was later found to be seized. The vehicle had no prior warnings or known issues and was maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. There were no other warning signs ahead, the car is always maintained. I have records of all the maintenance, and there was not a single Check engine light, or any other kind of issue. Consequence: Engine seized, vehicle not drivable, substantial repair or replacement required. •Condition & maintenance: All services up-to-date, regular oil changes, no previous related issues. •Supporting documentation: Mechanic’s inspection report, service records, tow bill, photos of belt damage and sensor plug. •Impact: Unexpected catastrophic failure at low mileage; potential defect in belt/pulley/auxiliary-system interface posing risk of sudden breakdown. •Request: Investigation of whether this is an isolated failure or a possible defect pattern.

The fuel pump has been failing and shutting off and has been hesitant when taking off. It can leave you stranded in the middle of the road or if you turn left in front of people the car may stall and can cause a crash. Yes and independent dealer and the dealer both know it’s a problem. I took the vehicle into a Mercedes dealer and the fuel pump had a recall on it and the dealer refused to replace it although I had a engine code that they could pull up referring them to the fuel pump and the fuel pump not priming as it should in every start up. The failure happened a few months ago and I took it in and the dealer drilled a home in the rear of my car and failed to replace the fuel pump, which was covered under the warranty. And the dealer admitted there was water in the trunk area which corroded the fuel pump.

The contact stated that the sunroof failed to open, and there was a fracture causing water to leak into the cabin of the vehicle from the upper-right side. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer determined that the motor and tracks for the sunroof had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer stated that the entire unit needed to be replaced due to previous parts no longer being compatible with the new improved parts. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

Transmission gear does not shift into R or N or D, from P. How to reproduce: Drive several minutes, then brake/stop, shift into R, pull back 10~20 ft. Gear cannot shift to either R or N or D. Gear can only shift into P. Shutdown the car, restart the engine then able to shift into R or N or D. This has been intermittent but getting more frequent.

The contact owns a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE350. The contact stated that while entering the dealer, the over-the-thread detector provided an alert. There were no warning lights illuminated. While at the local dealer, the contact was informed that the vehicle was working as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead (2799 Piedmont Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30305) where it was diagnosed that the brake pads had separated and were not engaged. The brake pads and rotors were replaced but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was informed that the rear passenger’s side wheel was scraping and there was an abnormal pattern on the rotor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 37,873.

The contact owns a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE350. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that water had intruded into the connector and the fuel pump control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, after the vehicle was retrieved, the failure recurred. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact then stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, she noticed that water had collected in the wheel well and caused the wheel well to rust. Additionally, the contact stated that she noticed that water had collected in the spare tire, the battery, and the body of the vehicle. The contact also stated that the water caused mold and rust throughout the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a specialist where the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact then stated that she was not made aware of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V955000 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the dealer was handling the recall, but no further assistance was provided. I WRITE YOU TO REPORT A SERIOUS MERCEDES BENZ SAFETY HAZARD. THE GLE 43 WITH PIRELLI PZERO TIRES RESPONDS ADVERSELY (WITHOUT REASONABLE CONTROL) IN SNOWY CONDITIONS. IN EVEN MILDLY SNOWY CONDITIONS, THE TIRES PLANE ON THE SNOW AND ACT MORE AS SKIS THAN TIRES. IN 2018, AFTER LEASING MY GLE 43 I EXPERIENCED LOSS OF CONTROL, SLIDING SIDEWAYS, WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 5-10 MPH IN A PARKING LOT. FOLLOWING THAT EXPERIENCE I PURCHASED SNOW TIRES AND THE CAR HANDLED MUCH MORE FAVORABLY. IN 2018 WHEN I LEASED THE CAR, I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT ONLY THE SPORT TIRES WERE AVAILABLE FOR THE SIZE TIRE I REQUESTED. CLEARLY I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE SNOW TIRES THE SAME YEAR AND I SUSPECT, BUT HAVE NOT CONFIRMED, ALL WEATHER TIRES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE. MERCEDES MISTAKENLY DID NOT OFFER (OR MAKE THE STANDARD) ALL WEATHER TIRES. THIS WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY MISTAKE WITH THE GLE 43. ON 07 SEP OF THIS YEAR (2020), DRIVING EAST ON I-70 IN COLORADO DURING A MILD SNOW STORM, I WAS REQUIRED TO COME TO A TRAFFIC STOP. CONDITIONS OFFERED AMPLE ROAD TO STOP. THE GLE SPEED WAS ~40-50 MPH WHEN I APPLIED BREAKS TO STOP THE CAR. INSTEAD OF RESPONDING WITH CONTROL, THE GLE FISHTAILED AND SPUN OUT OF CONTROL. I FINALLY SLID TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THREE LANES OF STOPPED TRAFFIC AFTER AT LEAST ONE 360 DEGREE SPIN. MY FAMILY AND I WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE ESCAPED INJURY OR DEATH. OTHERS AROUND US COULD HAVE ALSO BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. THE GLE'S PERFORMANCE WITH PIRELLI PZERO TIRES WAS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. I BELIEVE MERCEDES BENZ SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THIS SAFETY CONCERN AND TAKE REASONABLE STEPS TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING TO OTHERS. SPECIFICALLY, I REQUEST THE FOLLOWING: 'MAKE THE PIRELLI PZERO SAFETY CONCERN IN WINTER CONDITIONS KNOWN TO ALL GLE OWNERS AND OFFER ALTERNATE TIRES 'REPLACE THE TIRES ON MY GLE WITH ACCEPTABLE ALL WEATHER TIRES 'REPAIR THE DAMAGE CAUSED TO

ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE CAR SEEMINGLY WENT OUT OF CONTROL FROM THE DRIVER. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR BEGAN TO SWERVE UNCONTROLLABLY AND WAS UNABLE TO BE BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL FOR A FEW SECONDS. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS ONLY TO BE TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR.

WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL ROAD CLOSE TO MY HOUSE, THE VEHICLE STARTED SHOWING LOT OF ALERTS AND SUDDENLY THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED AUTOMATICALLY WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY, THE VEHICLE SPEED WAS VERY SLOW AS IT WAS EVENING AND RAINING WITH GOOD AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC ON THE LOCAL FORD ROAD. THIS WAS VERY SCARY, AD THINKING IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN LIFE THREATENING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MB ANN ARBOR MI DEALERSHIP WHICH IT WAS WORKED ON FOR ALMOST A MONTH. THE ISSUE WAS CONFIRMED, PLEASE SEE ATTACHED, BUT THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT SEEM TO TAKE THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY AS MANY OTHER ISSUES WERE DETERMINED AND STILL BEGGING DEALERSHIP TO FIX THE ISSUES.

ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE INFORMATION MONITOR FREEZING, PARTICULAR TO THE NAVIGATION FUNCTION. SHUTS DOWN AND ATTEMPTS TO REBOOT REPEATEDLY. MB ATTEMPTED A FIX RE SOFTWARE, HOWEVER, ISSUE CONTINUES. SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE, LEAVING PARKED FOR AN HOUR OR TWO DOES NOT CORRECT THE SYSTEM. MAY OCCUR SHORTLY AFTER BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE OR SHORTLY AFTER BEGINNING TO DRIVE. OVERNIGHT PARKING SEEMS TO CORRECT THE IMMEDIATE ISSUE. DURING THIS TIME, ONLY OTHER FUNCTION THAT OPERATES IS THE RADIO; CANNOT USE VOICE COMMANDS, TELEPHONE BLUETOOTH, ETC. HAVE ALERTED MB DEALER IN SAN ANTONIO WITH COPY TO MB USA, HOWEVER, NO RESPONSES. GOOGLE SEARCH HAS INDICATED VARIOUS MODELS MAY HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR ISSUES OVER SEVERAL YEARS, HOWEVER, NO INDICATIONS OF CORRECTIVE ACTION. PRUDENT TO ALSO CARRY A GPS ALTERNATIVE SUCH AS A MAP, GARMIN OR OTHER BRAND IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE WHILE ON A TRIP. THIS OCCURRED IN LATE NOVEMBER 2019 AND AGAIN JANUARY 2020.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUN ROOF WAS NOT STRUCK BY ANY DEBRIS OR FOREIGN OBJECT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS GLASS IN HER HAIR, ON HER FACE, AND ON THE CHILDREN SEATED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE MINOR INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MERCEDES-BENZ OF HOUSTON NORTH (17510 NORTH FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77090, (281) 305-8970). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUN ROOF MAY HAVE SHATTERED BY A ROCK. WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OUT OF A PARKING LOT, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED TO THE RIGHT AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY FORCEFULLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MERCEDES-BENZ OF CORAL GABLES (300 ALMERIA AVE, CORAL GABLES, FL 33134, (305) 445-8593) WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOUND NO FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

WHILE PARKING CAR IN A PARKING SPOT IN PRIVATE OFFICE PARKING, THE CAR ACCELERATED ITSELF (WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE TO STOP IT) AND RAN INTO FRONT WALL. THIS SIMILAR PROBLEM HAS SHOWN EARLIER WHERE CAR ACCELERATED ITSELF WITHOUT CAUSING ANY ACCIDENT. APPARENTLY PROBLEM EXIST WHERE CAR SOMETIME ACCELERATE ITSELF. LAST TIME ACCELERATION CAUSE CRASH INTO FRONT WALL WITH SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE CAR. NOW CAR IS AT BODY SHOP FOR REPAIR. CAR WAS HEADING STRAIGHT INTO GLASS WINDOW BUT DRIVER TURNED THE WHEEL TO RIGHT TO SAVE GLASS WINDOW AND DIRECTED TOWARD THE PILLAR. AS THIS CAN BE SEEN IN THE PICTURE. THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE CRASH TO BE AT AN ANGLE, THIS WAS DONE TO AVOID CRASHING INTO BUILDING WINDOWS AND INJURING INHABITANT OF THE BUILDING.
