Rear powered tailgate closes by itself. There is no warning. It closes VERY rapidly. This hit me in the head, but I am mostly concerned with others, such as elderly people and children. It could easily cause a concussion, or worse. I have contacted MBUSA advocacy at 1-800-222-0100 three times. I was told all three times that I would be contacted back within 24-48 hours (business days) regarding this safety issue. It has now been two weeks, and I have not received anything such as a returned phone call, email, etc. The vehicle is at my residence and available for any inspection or test, etc. I also have video of this problem. Again, the rear powered tailgate closes by itself, without warning. It closes VERY rapidly with force far greater than gravity alone.

MY 2014 MERCEDES GLK 250 WITH 16,705 MILES, ON 11/03/2015 EXPERIENCED THE ENGINE WARNING DISPLAY STATING TO ADD BLUE. I DID THIS BUT THE WARNING DID NOT REMOVE BUT STATED I HAD 10 STARTS REMAINING. I WAS 700 MILES FROM HOME SO RETURNED CONSERVING MY REMAINING STARTS. FOUND MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE BLUE TECH EMISSIONS SYSTEM INCLUDING DEF INJECTOR NOZZLE FAILING TO SPRAY. ALL COVERED BY WARRANTY. ON 06/15/2019 WITH 58,129 MILES, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AGAIN CAME ON TO ADD BLUE. I CHECKED BLUETEC LEVEL TO BE NEARLY FULL. THE WARNING STATED I HAD EIGHT REMAINING STARTS. BEING 700 MILES FROM HOME, I RETURNED. HAVING THREE REMAINING STARTS.I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR IMMEDIATE REPAIR. FOUND NOX SENSOR 2 FAULTY AND WAS REPLACED. ON 6/28/2019 WITH 58,126 MILES, THE ADD BLUE WARNING AGAIN APPEARED. THE BLUEDEF WARNING ONLY 10 STARTS REMAINS. THE NEAREST MERECEDES DEALER WAS IN DENVER BEING 173 MILES AWAY. I TOOK IT THERE WHERE THEY REPLACED DEF MODULE, THE PREHEATER AND TANK TEMP AMOUNG OTHER FAULTS. ON 7/15/2019, WITH APPROX. 58,300 MILES, THE SAME WARNING APPEARED. RETURNED TO THE SAME DENVER DEALER WHO THEN REPLACED THE NOX SENSORS IN THE EMISSION SYSTEM. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FREQUENCY OF REPAIR FOR THIS MODEL IS VERY HIGH AND EXPENSIVE (MY LAST TOTALED $5,000). THIS VEHICLE IS TOTALLY UNRELIABLE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. BECAUSE OF THE EMMISION SYSTEM UTILIZED, NUMBEROUS OTHER PROBLEMS OCCUR SUCH AS THE COMPLETE WINDSHIELD WASHER SYSTEM WAS REPLACEDDUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT CREATED BY THE SYSTEM. LIGHT APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES RESULTED IN ABRUPT FULL STOP AND LEFT CAR IN PARK. COULD NOT GET CAR TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK EVEN WHEN APPLYING BRAKE AS INDICATED IN DASHBOARD MESSAGE. OTHER SCREEN MESSAGE INDICATED "DANGER OF ROLLING" AND DISPLAYED PICTURE OF CAR WITH AN ARROW ABOVE IT. NO OTHER WARNING LIGHTS. DEALER REPLACED ELECTRONIC IGNITION AND PROVIDED NEW KEYS.

My vehicle started smelling like gas. Took it in for inspection. Mechanic found a leak in the fuel assembly, resulting in gasoline pooling inside the vehicle under the back seat and leaking out through the bottom of the vehicle. I went online and noticed a recall was issued for 2011 and 2012 models. Ongoing issues with fuel modules leaking although no visible cracks were present. I contacted Mercedes to have them review if this would be covered under their recall and they declined saying they did not want to cover this under their recall. Mercedes made me take the vehicle in to their dealership in Kahului Maui to verify the issue which I did. They sent me a quote for the repair with no specific parts listed, just fuel module in the amount of $1884.71. Comments: "left fuel pump/filter assembly leaking" No warning lamps or check engine lights came on which is disturbing since exposed gasoline could lead to ignition with a small spark. With further investigation online I found that I am not the only GLK350 2014 owner that is having issues with fuel module leaking. The Fuel pump tank closing cover (P/N 204-470-04-38) cracked and caused fuel to pool on it. This happens when the tank is above 3/4 full resulting in strong fuel fumes when the car is parked inside. It is likely when parked in a garage to be an explosion hazard due to the fumes. Looking on the user forums and internet this is not an uncommon issue and should be addressed as this design is used on most Mercedes fuel tanks in the 2000's.

WE STARTED TO DEVELOP A STRONG SMELL OF GAS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I STARTED TO RESEARCH ONLINE TO FIND THAT MANY MERCEDES MODELS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, A CRACK DEVELOPS ON A CAP THAT HOUSES THE FUEL PUMP UNDER THE BACK SEAT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS PERMITS GAS FUMES TO ENTER THE VEHICLE, LET ALONE ACTUAL GASOLINE TO COLLECT ABOVE THE CAP AND LEAKING UNDER THE SEAT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. SOME PEOPLE TRY TO JUST PATCH IT WITH EPOXY AND ATTEMPT TO REPLACE PARTS. BUT THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE ONGOING FOR YEARS ON VARIOUS MODELS AND OBVIOUSLY IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION BY THE MANUFACTURER. YOU NEED TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN AND IF THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OVERNIGHT, YOU CANNOT ENTER THE VEHICLE FOR A LONG TIME IN THE MORNING, UNTIL IT AERATES.

My concern is the repeated failure of the front wheel speed sensors rendering the ABS system and Traction Control System inoperable. The Speed Sensors failed as follows: 1.) 2015 at 9,474 Miles 2.) 2020 at 26,293 Miles 3.) 2022 at 30,281 Miles The vehicle has extremely low miles for the repeated failures to have occurred. If you research various Mercedes Benz Blogs online, you will see a trend of repeated speed sensors failures in all models of Mercedes cars & Mercedes Vans.

IN DECEMBER 2019 I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE TRAFFIC WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER. I WAS DRIVING BEHIND A LADY AND WHEN SHE STOPPED I WENT TO PUT MY FEET ON THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND MY CAR HIT HER. I HAD MY CAR REPAIRED OF COURSE AND PAID MY DEDUCTIBLE. MY CAR WAS DRIVING PRETTY REGULAR AFTER BEING REPAIRED. THEN IN AUGUST 2020 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING TO GET ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND AS I WAS ENTERING THE EXPRESSWAY AS I BEGIN TO STOP BECAUSE A CAR WAS IN FRONT OF ME AND MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN AND I HIT THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME. Vehicle is a 4 wheel drive SUV, having the Mercedes-Benz "4Matic" drivetrain, has it's Center Differential Planetary Gearset (With Integral Clutch Pack) in failure. Mercedes is clearly aware that this is a drivetrain component that fails prematurely as there is a Technical Service Bulletin (LI28.00-P-051499) that provides methodology for diagnosing the failure for 4Matic equipped vehicles from 2003 to 2016, specifically listing 83 different 4Matic equipped vehicles. Particular caution is called out as to special lubrication required prior to assembling the component into the drive train. Very likely that the root cause of the widespread failures was the part not being installed correctly. Though the failure evidences initially by front wheel vibrations and shuddering at low speed, it is a latent serious safety issue in that the component could fail catastrophically when stressed, i.e., hard acceleration when merging onto a highway, at best causing a sudden imbalance in front/rear propulsion resulting in an affected vehicle compromised in its steering, or at worst locking up front or rear wheels resulting in a spin out. Mercedes has replaced this equipment under warranty for an unknown number of vehicles, but refuses to acknowledge how widespread the problem is. Mercedes Customer Assistance says "no recall' so refuses to address the issue and flatly told me to take it up with the NHTSA. Public safety dictates that all affected vehicles need to be inspected for the failure and these defective components replaced as a recall.

The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for a service appointment for the auxiliary battery replacement, the contact was informed that water was in the spare wheel storage location. The contact was informed that the water level measured to be a quarter of a foot of water. In addition, the water was also noticed to be in the auxiliary battery storage area. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,714.

The lift gate has an automatic open feature like many vehicles. When you press the handle or use the remote control to open the rear lift gate, the gate opens all the way. After some time (5 - 30 seconds), the gate slams suddenly either to half way open, or slams completely shut on its own. This is especially dangerous when a person is under the gate getting something out of the trunk, and the heavy metal gate suddenly slams on to their head.

On 11/18/2023, while driving my GLK350 2014, I decided to open and later close the sunroof. As I closed the sunroof, I heard a distinct cracking sound, which caught my attention. Initially, I was unsure of the source of the sound and continued driving. It wasn't until I arrived home that I made a shocking discovery - the front black stationary window panel, located just above the windshield, had shattered unexpectedly. Prior to this incident, I had meticulously cared for my car, ensuring it was regularly maintained and kept in excellent condition. There were no visible cracks or signs of damage on the front black stationary window panel. I even hand-washed the vehicle earlier that day and inspected the panel, confirming its integrity. I had a clear view of the area around the car while I was on a ladder, ruling out the possibility of any rocks or debris causing the breakage. My adult daughter was present in the car with me as a witness to this unfortunate event. We were both astonished by the sudden and unexplained shattering of the window panel. Given the circumstances, it became evident that there is a significant safety concern regarding the GLK350 2014 model's front black stationary window panel. The shattered panel poses serious risks to the safety of both the driver and passengers. These risks include compromised structural integrity, the potential for harmful glass projectiles, and impaired visibility that could lead to accidents or hazardous driving situations. To address these urgent safety concerns, I have written this letter to request an immediate safety recall for all GLK350 2014 vehicles. It is our collective responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all drivers and passengers who rely on your esteemed automobile brand. 1. Windshield wiper assemblies failed to operate. 2. During severe rainstorm in Northern California, driver side wiper arm stopped working while I was driving on freeway. 3. Confirmed by independent service center. He showed me a broken part under the hood. He said it would cost close to $1000.00 to repair. 4. I will be taking the car to a Mercedes Benz dealer for a second opinion. 5. No warning lights appeared.

The contact owns a 2014 Mercedes Benz GLK250. The contact stated while driving at a slow speed and seeking a parking spot, the vehicle accelerated independently and caused her to crash into a parked vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated she did not sustain any injuries and her daughter (front passenger side) was feeling dizzy but declined to seek medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000. The consumer was told to obtain a EDR from Mercedes who than stated, you have to request that information from the officer who filed the report to request a subpoena from a Judge, but the request was denied by the officer. Also, the vehicle was deemed as totaled but the air bags did not deploy. UPDATE: 07/01/2023- This letter is a follow-up to my initial telephone complaint over 4 ½ months ago filed with NHTSA concerning the uncontrollable acceleration of my vehicle on January 6, 2023, resulting in a collision with a parked vehicle. The contact stated that while stopped at a red light, the steering wheel malfunction warning light appeared on the instrument panel while the contact was attempting to make a left turn. During the failure, the vehicle stalled, and the contact managed to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. Due to the failure, the vehicle was taken to the dealer. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V252000 (Steering) which she linked to the failure. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -The entire electrical system failed and the power steering, SRS, and ABS systems malfunctioned. Yes, it’s available for inspection. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -Last night around 9 pm CST we crank the car and started to drive, (no warning light at that time) and all of a sudden the car had a warning message to start the engine or the vehicle would turn off the engine although we were already driving. The car started to show all the lights and the brakes got harder to press while we were driving about 40 miles per hour. We couldn’t stop completely at the traffic light and the SRS light came on in the dashboard. After we got off the main road, the power steering locked up as we were trying to turn into a parking lot to safely park. Even after removing the key, the engine remained on and the headlights. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -No, a dealer has not confirmed electrical problems for this specific VIN, although there has been a “blanket recall” on the models in this class. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -No, not to my knowledge. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -The battery light turned on around 9 am when I was driving my son to his appointment. Then the light went off. Later on in the day, I was able to drive approximately 30-40 miles before going home. In the evening, when driving to the grocery store, the battery light came back on and went off. After leaving grocery store, this is when the car malfunctioned. The ABS and SRS were prominent during the malfunction.

On 1/17/25, I was on my commute to my office when I noted a very strong and unpleasant odor. Thinking it was from a truck in front of me, I passed the truck, cracked my passenger window and continued the short distance to my office. After work, when I returned to my car, I noted a hole burned through my driver's side leather seat. I didn't make the connection to the odor from that morning until I arrived home and did some online research. It turns out that my front seat warmer had malfunctioned, burning all the way through the leather. This problem is well documented online in various forums in my year, make and model. In some cases I read about, driver's clothing burned. In one case I found, a child was burned. This is also a well documented problem that occurred in earlier models of Mercedes, resulting in a lawsuit and a recall. My car is currently at the dealer for repair of the faulty seat warmer, replacement of the burned foam cushion, and replacement of the leather seat cover. This could have been so much worse had I been earlier in my commute, or on a highway where I could not have pulled over. It seems like this problem should prompt a recall.

On January 01, 2025, I started my wife's car after adding coolant. I just want to warm it up since we did not use it in a couple of days. I activated the heated seat on the driver side where I was seated and was just looking at the dashboard. I felt something on back right side and thought that there was an insect bite. When I turned and look, I discovered a dime size red small flame and smoke on the seat and realized that it is possibly and part of the heated seat heating element that burned through the seat material and burned my sweater a little bit. I turned off the heated seat immediately and shut off the car and made sure the burning stop or was out. I was thankful that this happen while I was just warming out the car and stationary and that it did not happen while my wife was driving the car. This could have produced a dangerous situation, a bigger fire while driving and could have cause an accident. I called the Mercedes Benz service department which was possibly closed but I got a call back the following day and they said that there is no open recall on this vehicle on anything. I ask what is my option and the answer was to get it checked at the service dept. and that it would cost $351.00 just to find out what was wrong with it. I schedule service for Jan 14, 2025 at 3:30 pm. No police or insurance inspection was done. There has been no warning lamp or message to warn me of the problem. Jan 01, 2025 is the first time it happened. I told my wife not to use the heated seat and put a note on the car to inform anyone that will be in the car even though it is just my wife and I that drives the car.

Left side boost tube blown twice on my vehicle. Technical part info: 204-528-00-00, Charge Air Hose Both incidents involved sudden loss of power in the middle of the free way driving. First incident: Christmas Day 2018, on the way to Las Vegas from Grand Canyon visit, on highway 93. Fortunately, no vehicle was behind when I lost the power, moved to right lane and continued driving slowly to reach the hotel in LV (about 50 miles at low speeds). Check engine light came on immediately after loosing the power. Next day morning, visited the local Mercedes dealer to repair the vehicle, it costed me $520.19 This was in the middle of a long road trip from Phoenix to San Fransisco. Second incident: July 29th 2021, right after I picked up the vehicle from a repair shop to repair the rear bumper. Vehicle pick up was slow, no check engine light. Next day morning, on the way to work on I-17, vehicle lost the power while merging onto Freeway. Almost got hit a by trailer truck which was right behind me. Moved back to right lane and slowly drove to work. Check engine light came on after few minutes of driving. Took the vehicle to repair on August 6th to a local dealer. This time they didn't charge me for the repair and said it's covered under warranty. I don't have any warranty. Seems like it's a design issue with turbo charge air hose and/or a faulty part. It's a real safety issue if it blown in the middle of driving.

2014 M-B GLK350 WAS TRAVELING ON A SIX LANE ROAD: THREE LANES IN THE NORTH DIRECTION; THREE LANES IN THE SOUTH DIRECTION. GLK350 WAS TRAVELING IN THE NORTH DIRECTION RIGHT LANE AT APPROX. 15 MPH WHEN IT WAS BROADSIDED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BY A PICKUP TRUCK WHO WAS COMING FROM THE SOUTH DIRECTION. THE PICKUP TRUCK MADE AN ILLEGAL LEFT HAND TURN AND CROSSED OVER THREE LANES OF TRAVEL IN AN ACCELERATING MODE BEFORE IMPACT WITH THE GLK350. THE PICKUP TRUCK WAS TRAVELING AT LEAST 25 MPH. NO AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED DURING THIS IMPACT --- ESPECIALLY CURTAIN AND SIDEBODY BAGS.
