TIRES
12 complaints
See attached document for complaint. I wanted to express my displeasure with the manner in which the above reference recall was conducted. The timeline left many owners with expensive replacement bills for new tires to replace inadequate tires that were installed as OEM on our vans. The message boards tell a story of frustration for a large group of consumers. As you know the recall was originally made in July of 2022. The notice to dealers went out in September of 2022. Mercedes Benz appeared to really drag their feet on a solution to the issue with the first small number of remedies (219 out of 24,359) in the second quarter of 2024. Remedies did not begin in earnest until the beginning of 2025 almost two and half years after the recall was originally published. As the original ti res were inadequate, I was notified in June of 2023 by your Mercedes-Benz of Pleasanton service center that my tires needed to be replaced at a cost of 1,348. Strange that a dealer would be trying to sell me replacement tires on an item under a recall. I decided in October of 2023 at an odometer reading of only 26,708 to go ahead and replace my tires having given up on your slow roll of the recall remedy. I spent 940 on new tires to replace the inadequate tires. Finally in January of 2025 you notified me that you were prepared to replace my tires if necessary. In April of 2025 at an odometer reading of 34,984 your Mercedes-Benz of Palm Springs service center replaced my "newish" tires with the right size tires. Based on message board activity I think there are many disappointed owners who had a similar experience as evidenced by their comments. I just can't believe a safety recall was left open with no remedy for so long at a great expense and waste. I would ask that you reimburse me for the wasted expenditure of 940 I made in October of 2023 while awaiting your delayed recall solution to make this situation right.

ENGINE
1 complaint
The check engine light came on, with code P052E indicating a positive crankcase ventilation valve failure. Dealer inspection revealed the PCV valve is sticking and recommended a replacement with a $2100 charge. This is a widely experienced problem with this engine in many Mercedes vehicles, suggesting that the cause is a manufacturer defect.

Overloading over time could cause excessive tire wear and in a worst case scenario, could lead to tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash. An authorized Mercedes-Benz Metris dealer will replace the tire information label on the B-pillar and fuel filler door. Dealers will also check the tires on the vehicle to verify that they are the correctly specified tires. If the tires on the vehicle are of a lower rating than what is specified in the Operators Manual, the tires will be replaced with new tires having the specified load rating. This repair will be done free of charge.

I am the owner of 2018 Mercedes Benz Matrix. The car was purchased in order to use it for business on renting platform. It does have recall which is not active and in review for more than a year. Because of it Im not able to use the car, all renting platforms are blocking the car because it is open recall. Mercedes doesn't have remedy obviously, and just have it pending. Im loosing all business/ money because of this recall. The car is just standing parked, as I understand it is unsafe to drive for me and for other people.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The digital display system that indicates how many miles you have left until empty is not accurate. The dashboard display indicated that I had about 85 miles of range left before my tank was empty. Approximately 35 miles later, when there should have been 50 miles of range left according to the digital dashboard display, the vehicle ran out of gas and I was left stranded on the side of the freeway. This is a safety issue. I have read numerous reports of similar incidents with this vehicle in online forums.

STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
1 complaint
Wheel speed sensors appear to fail on a routine basis (every 0-10 months), similar to the subject of recall 21V-042 on Sprinter vans. Sensor failure disables most safety features of vehicles including ABS, blind spot warning, assisted steering, and other safety features. THe failure causes notable issues with handling/steering and braking. Failure at highway speed impacts vehicle driving stability and increases the risk of a crash. Dealer previously repaired under warranty in October or November 2021. Unit failed in traffic at highway speed again in September 2022. Contacted dealer and was informed they are not scheduling maintenance appointments at this time and would not reimburse the cost of repair by an outside mechanic. They would also not acknowledge whether the vehicle is safe to drive and would not give an estimate on when they would be able to schedule a service appointment. They recommended transporting the vehicle to another city for service but implied they would not reimburse costs of doing so. Having most safety systems dependent on a poorly designed part with a high failure rate is not acceptable.

STEERING
1 complaint
Hi, I was driving at highway speeds, about 80mph through West Texas where the speed limit is 80MPH. I was pulling a trailer, there was a 40'ish MPH side-wind blowing pushing the vehicle to the center divider. As I was passing a semi on the outside of a curve, as I came upon the bow wake, the vehicle was pushed towards the center divider and encountered the rumble strip. At which point the power steering malfunctioned and completely turned off, leaving only manual steering. There was an error on the display indicating power steering malfunction. It was an extreme driving environment, but within the limits of the law. With a lot of quick reaction, I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and continue on the the next safe location to stop, which was the next gas station. West Texas is fairly desolate, and stopping on the side of the road did not appear to be a safe option. After some web research we found this was not an isolated incident and it has been noted before, NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V595. Additional research indicated that rebooting the vehicle would in fact re-enable the power steering, which it did. We were able to complete our destination. If my wife was driving we would be dead, along with a few others, without a doubt. We contacted MB, we were told to have a dealership conduct am inspection, I will contact them to get an estimate. I have owned the van for 3.5 yrs, with about 52k on the odometer, this has never happened before, how on God's green earth is a dealership going to be able to anything besides read the computer and get the error message? Anomalous malfunctions are incredibly to difficult to detect, they only occur when a very unique combination of events coincide. I ask you to look at case NHTSA 17V595. My vehicle was made 2-3 months after that event, I believe more than 3 vehicles were effected and it is an ticking time bomb for the owners of the vehicles affected. God be with them, as He was with Us that moment.
