YESTERDAY, WHILE PARKED, I NOTICED THE CAR IS LEANING TOWARDS LEFT SIDE. MECHANIC CHECKED AND FOUND THE AIR SPRING BAG WAS LEAKING. ALSO, THE STRUT ON RIGHT GOT SHOT. MANY OWNERS HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT. I'M SCARED TO TRAVEL WITH MY KIDS AND GRAND KIDS IN THE CAR. THESE CARS MUST BE RECALLED FOR SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ R350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUSPENSION FAILED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHILE PARKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPRESSOR, RELAY, FUSE LINK, AIR SUSPENSION, AND CORE RETURN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO MORE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

EVERYDAY I GET A RED SIGNAL ALERTING ME TO STOP DRIVING, CAR TOO LOW. IT USUALLY OCCURS WHEN INITIALLY TURNING ON THE CAR OR AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DRIVE. THE REAR OF THE CAR IS VISIBLY LOW AND WHEN DRIVING IT IS UNEVEN AND BUMPY. I HAVE SEEN OTHER R350 OWNERS WITH SAME COMPLAINT AND REPEAT COSTS TO FIX ~1200.00 EACH SIDE. NO SUSPENSION RECALLS ON AN APPARENT DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING?

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE FAILED STATE INSPECTION AND WAS TAKEN TO A MERCEDES DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THEY REPORT THAT THERE IS A BALANCE SHIFT PROBLEM THAT WAS RELATED TO WEAR AND TEAR. MY 2006 MERCEDES BENZ R350 WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A COUNTER BALANCE SHAFT/GEAR PROBLEM. IT HAS 85000 MILES... WHICH DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A LOT FOR A CAR THAT IS 5 YEARS OLD AND SUPPOSED TO LAST FOREVER. PLUS I HAVE MAINTAINED THE CAR WITH OIL CHANGES, TIRES, ETC AND AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I SEE ON LINE THAT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT PENDING . My car has stalled several times, either when I am driving, or when I stop at a traffic light. Rough idling and/or running when stopped at a red light or driving at speeds that wouldn’t normally be an issue. Engine stalling or misfiring, and car sometimes have trouble starting up. Loud rattling or vibrating noises from the engine. The check engine light is turned on. I took it to Mercedes Benz Dealership in Brooklyn, NY and was told it is a Balance Shaft problem, and they told me it could cost me about $9,000.00. Further research informs me that the problem should not be ignored, nor repair put off. Also, that failure of the balance shaft leaves the inner components of the engine unsecured and therefore will ultimately result in damage to the engine if left unchecked. Also, that driving at high speeds for long periods can agitate the problem even further due to the constant vibrations without a proper securing mechanism. As a result, I parked my car for several months, since I cannot afford the amount they quoted. In essence, I cannot even enjoy the car I bought.

TAKATA RECALL. I PURCHASED MY 2006 MERCEDES R350 IN 2016 WITH OVER 100K MILES ON IT. WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ALREADY ON. I USED A SCANNER TOOL FOR AN ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS. AS IT STATED TWO ISSUES. A CRANK SHAFT SENSOR/ CAM SHAFT SENSOR WAS NEEDED. SO I DECIDED AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT TO FINALIZE THE PURCHASE ANYWAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY, AFTER I CHANGED THE SENSORS THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. AFTER DOING A LOT OF RESEARCH AND SPENT UNNECESSARY MONEY, IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN FACT A FAULTY BALANCE SHAFT INSIDE OF THE ENGINE. DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFAULT. THAT WAS COVERED MY MERCEDES IN A RECALL AT ONE POINT BEFORE I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. FOR SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS A DEFECTED PART IN A MOTOR SHOULD NOT BE LIMITED TO WHEN YOU PURCHASE THE VEHICLE, BUT WHENEVER IT IS BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED WITHOUT HESITATION SINCE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFAULT AND NOT SOMETHING THAT WAS DONE BY ANY PREVIOUS OWNERS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE TO HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AT HAND. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

BALANCE SHAFT GEAR DEFECTIVE APPARENTLY MERCEDES HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, CLASS ACTION SUITS HAVE BEEN FILED- NO RECALL YET. I PLAN TO CALL MERCEDES DEALER TOMORROW- DO NOT ANTICIPATE ANY HELP ON THEIR PART - IF THAT'S THE CASE WILL TRY TO JOIN CLASS ACTION SUIT AS THIS IS A KNOWN AND VERY COSTLY -(THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS) PROBLEM FOR NUMEROUS MB VEHICLES- MANY CLASSES FROM 2007 -2011. MERCEDES BENZ WAS APPARENTLY AWARE OF THIS DEFECT WHEN I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE (USED) FROM LOCAL MB DEALER HERE IN NY 2009 AS A PRE OWNED CERTIFIED VEHICLE, WHY WAS I NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE THAT MERCEDES KNOWINGLY KNEW AND COME TO FIND OUT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED. THE NHTSA NEED S TO LOOK INTO THIS MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED, MERCEDES SERVICE TECHS WERE MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT THEY WERE NOT INSTRUCTED TO LET CUSTOMERS BE KNOWN OF THIS WHEN CARS WERE BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE BUT MERCEDES BENZ REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE BALANCE SHAFT AS A DEFECT AND ROAD SAFETY HAZARD. UNFORTUNATELY IT'S GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE'S ENGINE FALLING A PART AT HIGH SPEED CAUSING AN ACCIDENT BEFORE SOMEONE WILL DO SOMETHING WHICH IS TERRIBLE. MERCEDES-BENZ BALANCE SHAFT PROBLEMS AND HOW TO CHECK YOUR CAR. BALANCE SHAFT MERCEDES V6 AND V8 PROBLEMS MERCEDES-BENZ V6 AND V8 ENGINES HAD TIMING CHAIN PROBLEMS CAUSED BY BALANCE SHAFT AND IDLER GEAR FAILURES. MERCEDES PRODUCED CERTAIN MODELS WITH DEFECTIVE GEARS IN THEIR BALANCE SHAFTS (M272 ENGINES) OR WITH DEFECTIVE IDLE GEARS ( M273 ENGINES). THESE FAULTY GEARS WEAR OUT PREMATURELY, EXCESSIVELY, AND WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION, THE 'CHECK ENGINE LIGHT' TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE TO MISFIRE OR STOP DRIVING.

VEHICLE CRANKS BUT WILL NOT START, DEALER FIRST REPLACED FUEL PUMP ($1500),THEN WHEN CAME TO PICKUP VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AT DEALER, REPLACED STARTER(NO CHARGE), DROVE FOR 2 WEEKS ISSUE CAME BACK, TOOK TO DEALER , THEY KEPT IT FOR 20 DAYS AND SAID SOME SORT OF CONTROL MODULE, BUT WHO KNOWS. ITS BEEN 15 MONTHS AND CAR JUST STOPPED SMACK IN MIDDLE OF FREEWAY AT 60 MILES PER HOUR AND WOULD NOT START. CURRENTLY AT DEALER.

THE TRANSMISSION HAS A FAULTY SHIFT SOLENOID THAT CAN ONLY BE REPLACED BY A MERCEDES BENZ DEALER AND THEREFORE IS MANY TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHER REPAIRS. ALSO THIS SOLENOID HAS A WELL ABOVE AVERAGE FAILURE RATE. MY CAR HAS 112,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SHIFTING POORLY AND GOT STUCK IN 4TH GEAR. CAN BECAME VERY JERKY AND ONCE WENT INTO PARK WITHOUT ME SELECTING PARK, THIS HAPPENED AT A STOP LIGHT WITH CARS COMING UP BEHIND ME.

TRANSMISSION GOES INTO LIMP MODE AFTER SLOWING DOWN ON TO NEAR ZERO ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. THE RESULT IS THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT DOWN INTO LOWER GEAR AND THUS WILL NOT ACCELERATE. CAR MUST BE TURNED OFF AND RE-STARTED ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC IN ORDER TO MAKE THE CAR OPERATE OR ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD. NEEDLESS TO SAY, STOPPING AND RE-STARTING A CAR ON THE INTERSTATE IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE... PARTICULARLY WHEN TRAPPED IN THE FAST LANE WITH NO WAY TO CROSS MULTIPLE LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER (BECAUSE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE AND CANNOT MERGE INTO 70 MPH TRAFFIC TO CROSS). AS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT MERCEDES HAS ON SEVERAL PLATFORMS THAT SHARE THE 7-G TRONIC TRANSMISSION, I WOULD THINK THAT MERCEDES MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AS THERE IS NO WARNING THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AND WHEN IT DOES IT CAN EASILY PRESENT A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. MAY 13, 2019, MY WIFE STARTED THE CAR AND DROVE FOR LESS THAN A MILE WHEN HER DRESS STARTED SMOKING FROM THE DRIVER SEAT THAT WAS ALIGHT. SHE STOPPED THE CAR AND REMOVED OUR 11 MONTH OLD BABY FROM THE BACKSEAT AND CALLED ME. SHE HAS A VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT. I CHECKED ON MERCEDES USA SITE AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUITE ON THIS ISSUE. WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED BY EITHER MB OR THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE CASE. THIS COULD HAVE TURNED OUT DEADLY AS THE BATTERY IS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE FUEL LINES. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND AGAIN , THE SEAT STARTED TO SMOKE. IT IS NOW PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY AS MY WIFE AND I ARE SCARED OF PUTTING OUR KIDS IN IT. I CONTACTED MB USA AND THEY DIRECTED ME TO THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE LAW SUITE. THIS CAN CREATE DANGEROUS OR EVEN DEADLY SITUATIONS IF MY WAS ON A HIGHWAY AND COULD NOT STOP OR FIE ESCALATES RAPIDLY WITH OUR CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT.

THE HEATED SEATS WERE TURNED ON THE DRIVER SEAT WHILE WAITING IN LINE AT A FAST FOOD DRIVE THRU ON JUNE 15, 2017 AROUND 1:00AM. I PULLED OF AFTER GETTING MY FOOD. THEN WHILE I WAS LEAVING THE PARKING LOT I STARTED TO FEEL REALLY WARM ON MY BACK AND SIDE, HOTTER THAN NORMAL. I STARTED TO SMELL SMOKE! I PULLED OVER QUICKLY AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND I REALIZED MY CLOTHING WAS SMOKING AND THE BACK OF MY SEAT WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE WENT OUT AND MY JACKET AND T SHIRT HAD BURNS AND ASHES ON THEM AND MY DRIVER SEAT HAD LARGE HOLE IN IT.

I STARTED MY 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ R350 AND ACTIVATED THE DRIVER SEAT WARMER ON HIGH. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 2.2 MILES INTO MY DRIVE (SPEED 30-45 MPH) MY SEAT FELT VERY HOT ON MY LOWER LEFT SIDE NEAR MY WAIST LINE. I REACHED BACK WHILE DRIVING TO FEEL HOW HOT THE SEAT WAS AND WAS SURPRISED BY A VERY HOT SENSATION AS THOUGH I HAD TOUCHED A HOT NEEDLE. AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND PULL MY BODY FORWARD I NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM BEHIND MY LEFT SHOULDER. I IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER ONTO A LEFT SIDE STREET AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK LEAVING IT RUNNING AND JUMPED OUT OF THE SEAT. THERE WAS A LARGE HOLE BURNED IN THE LEATHER AND IT WAS STILL SMOKING. I PATTED THE AREA DOWN WITH MY HAND TO NOTICE A GLOWING ORANGE SPARK AND IT CONTINUED TO SMOKE. I REACHED IN AND TURNED OFF THE HEATED SEAT BUTTON BY CYCLING IT THOUGH THE 2ND AND 3RD LEVELS. THE SEAT FINALLY STOPPED SMOKING. I LET THE HOLE IN THE SEAT COOL DOWN. CHECKING MY CLOTHING I REALIZED I HAD A HOLE AND SEVERAL MELTED SPOTS ON MY POLYESTER VEST I WAS WEARING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN UNDRIVEABLE ON AND OFF FOR 6 MONTHS WITH DEFECTIVE STARTER WIRING HARNESS WHICH THE WIRES ARE EXPOSED, AND STARTING INTERMITTENTLY. TOWED FROM THE STREET 2 MONTHS AGO AND SITTING AT THE MECHANIC TRYING TO HELP ME. MERCEDES BENZ HAS A SAFETY RECALL #2006040002 FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM. THEY TELL ME IT IS FOR THE 2006 R350 AND NOT THE R500 MAYBE BECAUSE THEY WERE VERY LIMITED. THESES MODELS ARE THE SAME BUILT CHASSIS EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING THE STARTER WIRING HARNESS, EXCEPT I HAVE THE UPGRADED V8. AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX. SINCE THIS HAS CAUSED ME BREAK DOWN ISSUES AND IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD AS DESCRIBED. AS PER RECALL#2006040002 IS THE EXACT PROBLEM I AM HAVING NOW. THE STARTER WIRING HARNESS IS DEFECTIVE AND EXPOSED, AND CAR IS DISABLED AT MERCEDES MECHANIC SITE. MBUSA SAYS IT IS ONLY TO CERTAIN R500S AND VIN SPECIFIC. I AM CONFUSED SINCE THIS IS LIMITED PRODUCTION.

WOULD NEED THE FRONT SAM AND WIRING REPAIR ALONG WITH CONNECTOR REPLACEMENT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH DIAGNOSTIC. THE WATER IS COMING FROM THE FIREWALL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WAS AT WORK HAD TO LEAVE IT AT MY JOB BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T START SO THE NEXT DAY I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED.

AT COMPLETE STOP AT STOP LIGHT WITH BRAKE FULLY DEPRESSED THE TACHOMETER SHOWED SEVERAL REPEATED INCREASES IN RPM FROM 600-800 CAUSING THE CAR TO ROCK THEN THE CAR ACCELERATED TO 2200 RPM ACTIVATING THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. The contact was able to coast to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. After a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed an unknown fluid covering various components. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the power steering pump. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. WHILE I WAS DRIVING, I LOST POWER STEERING. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND SAW THAT MY ENGINE BELT WAS OFF MY ENGINE AND A PULLEY CAME OFF MY ENGINE. STILL UNAWARE THAT A FIRE COULD START FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE, IS WHEN WE REALIZED THAT THE CARGO AREA OF THE VEHICLES SIDE PANEL WAS IN COMPLETE FLAMES! THUS, CAUSING PHYSICAL AND MENTAL INJURIES, SMOKE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE AND A COMPLETE SENSE OF INSECURITY. THE VEHICLES MAIN SECURITY FEATURE NEVER WARNED US OF ANY POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING DANGER AS IT WOULD IF MY TIRE WAS LOW AND THE ON CALL SYSTEM FAILED TO BE HELPFUL WHEN TRYING TO GET HELP, FOR WE WERE ONLY ABLE TO HEAR THE REPRESENTATIVES BUT NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THEM WHICH LED TO 5 REPRESENTATIVE DISCONNECT CALLS.

INDEPENDENT MECHANIC (MERCEDES SPECIALIST) REPORTS THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM ON MODEL YEARS 2005 AND UP, HE HAS MULTIPLE VEHICLES IN FOR REPAIRS TO ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS. I JUST SPENT 1,384.00 PLUS A WEEK LATER, MORE CODES MEANING ANOTHER 600+ TO REPAIR. HE SAYS THESE ELECTRONICS SYSTEMS ARE A CONSTANT SOURCE OF HIS INCOME. THE RCLASS IS CAUSING ME BREAKDOWNS, IF I TURN OFF ENGINE WHEN IT IS HOT, I WILL BE STALLED AND UNABLE TO CRANK IT UNTIL IT COOLS OFF. I DROVE MY 2006 MERCEDES R350 TO WORK AND WHEN I CAME OUT FOR LUNCH I NOTICED THE CAR LEANING SEVERELY TO THE RIGHT. I TOOK THE CAR TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE REAR AIR SPRING SUSPENSION. MY WARRANT PAID TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND THE PART WAS REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER THE VEHICLE WAS LEANING AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A PART DEFECT AND THEY REPLACED IT AT NO CHARGE TO MY WARRANTY COMPANY. JUST THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 3, 2013 I CAME OUT FROM THE MOVIES TO FIND MY CAR LEANING FOR THE THIRD TIME. I CONTACTED THE WARRANTY COMPANY AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS A 1 YEAR WARRANTED SINCE IT WAS LAST FIXED ON SEPTEMBER 25,2012 SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SHOP THAT FIXED IT AND WAS TOLD THAT NOW ITS THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF WHICH WAS FIXED BUT THE CAR IS LEANING THE SAME POSITION AS THE LAST 2 TIMES AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO GET IT REPAIRED BECAUSE MY WARRANTY HAS ENDED. 2006 MERCEDES BENZ R350 STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A RESIDENTIAL INTERSECTION SHORTLY AFTER THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AFTER GETTING THE CAR, WE ALSO FELT A STRONG JERKING THEN SHIFTING GEARS, BUT IT WAS DOING IT ON ITS OWN. WE TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD IT'S JUST LOUD. THEN WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO FIX IT BUT IT NEVER STOPPED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUED TO COME ON. OTHER ISSUES RELATED TO THE ENGINE HAD TO BE FIXED RATHER QUICKLY. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN THE END OF 2005, AND HAS 88,000 MILES. OVER A YEAR AGO, THE CAR BEGAN IDLING/SHAKING REALLY BAD. I CALLED MB ROADSIDE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS PROBABLY BECAUSE THE GAS CAP WASN'T PLACED BACK ON THE CAR CORRECTLY AND GAS WAS LEAKING. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED AND THERE WAS NO GAS LEAKING.
