JUST BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE ON 11/2014 ITS A 2007 MERCEDES R350 WOKE UP ONE MORNING AND THE VEHICLE WAS LEANING TO THE LEFT THE FRONT OF THE LEFT PASSENGER SIDE WAS EXTREMELY LOW. THE REAR SUSPENSION BEGAN TO PRODUCE A HISSING NOISE UPON PARKING. THE NEXT TIME WHILE DRIVING A LOUD RELEASE OF AIR WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE AND THE REAR END OF THE CAR SLAMMED TO THE GROUND. NOW I HAVE TO HAVE THE REAR SUSPENSION REPLACED. THIS SUDDEN FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY IN UNFAVORABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS, COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRMATIC SYSTEM ARE ABUNDANT AND NOT JUST ISOLATED TO MY AND YEAR OF CAR. IN FACT MB IS CURRENTLY IN A CLASS ACTION LITIGATION REGARDING THE AIRMATIC SUSPENSION IN THEIR GL LINE OF CARS. THOUGHT IT WAS THE METAL TRIM ON MY JEANS GETTING TOO HOT BUT DISCOVERED THE SEAT HEATER HAD BURNED A HOLE THROUGH THE SEAT AND SMELLED LIKE A FIRE. I HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS AT LEAST EVERY 3-5 MONTHS SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT, WHICH WAS IN 2010. NEARLY ALL OF THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN UNDER WARRANTY, IT ONLY HAS LESS THAN 75, 000M. IN SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE CAR STARTED STALLING JERKING AND SHOUT OFF. THE ENGINE LIGHT, ESP LIGHT AND THE BREAK LIGHT CAME ON. IT IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED, THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON, WHILE THE ESP AND BREAK LIGHT WENT OFF. THIS WAS A VERY FRIGHTEN EXPERIENCE, HOPING I WON'T BE HIT FROM BEHIND. I MADE IT TO THE DEALER SHIP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SOON THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE TROUBLE STARTING. I THEN BEGAN SPUTTERING WHILE DRIVING. MERCEDES DEALER INFORMED US THAT THE BALANCE SHAFT HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS REPAIR WOULD COST CLOSE TO $6,000. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR MERCEDES R350 WITH TWO OF OUR CHILDREN AND NOTICED A BURNING SMELL IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE, SHE SOON REALIZED THAT THE HEAT WARMER ON THE SEAT HAD BURNED A HOLE IN THE SEAT AND SINGED HER SWEATER LEAVING A BLACK MARK. SHE TURNED OFF THE SEAT WARMER TO AVOID ANY FURTHER ISSUES, INCLUDING THE POTENTIAL OF A FIRE OR AN INJURY TO HER. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THE REPAIR WOULD BE $1,200. WHEN WE PASSED ON THE ITEM AND SAID WE SIMPLY WOULD STOP USING THE WARMER, THEY OFFERED 2/3 ASSISTANCE (1/3 FROM THE DEALERSHIP & 1/3 FROM MERCEDES) WITH US PAYING THE REMAINING 1/3. The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes-Benz R320. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V315000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle needed a diagnostic test prior to the recall repair. The contact declined to pay for the diagnostic test and advised the dealer to complete the recall repair. The dealer declined to honor the recall repair. The contact later discovered that the dealer had marked the recall repair as completed even though the recall repair had not been performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The contact had not experienced a failure.

I DROVE UP A 6000' HIGH MOUNTAIN,PULLED OVER ONTO A WIDE FLAT PULLOFF SAT THERE FOR 20 MINUTES, THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND HAD NO BRAKES. MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD NOT USED THE BRAKES ON THE WAY UP THE MOUNTAIN BECAUSE THE ROAD WAS STEEPLY UPHILL. I TRIED TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND STILL NO BRAKES. I WAITED ABOUT 20 MINUTE AND TRIED AGAIN,STILL HAD NO BRAKES. THERE WERE 3 OF US IN THE CAR, AND WE MANAGED TO GET A RIDE SEVERAL MILES DOWN AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. I T TOOK ABOUT 4 HOURS FOR THEM TO ARRIVE.I TRIED THE BRAKES AGAIN, AND STILL HAD NONE. AFTER IT WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP, APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL PROBLEM, I STILL HAD NO BRAKES. THIS HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. ON MONDAY, THE BRAKES HAD PUMPED BACK UP. I HAD IT TOWED TO PENSKE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP. THEY TESTED-BRAKES,FLUIDS ETC. AND COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. THEY BALKED AT DRIVING IT UP THE MOUNTAIN, BUT FINALLY SAID THEY DID DO IT, AND THE BRAKES WERE FINE. THIS ALL HAPPENED OVER 3 WEEKS AGO. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH 3 LEVELS OF AUTHORITY AT THE DEALER, AND THEY INSIST THERE IS NO PROBLEM, AND I SHOULD PICK THE CAR UP OR HAVE IT TOWED AWAY, OR PAY THEM A $25 PER DAY STORAGE FEE. I ALSO CALLED THE 800 NUMBER FOR MB CORPORATE, AND HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK. THE DEALER SAID THEY WERE CONTACTED BY CORPORATE MB AND TOLD WHICH TESTS TO PERFORM, AND THEY TOLD THEM THEY HAD ALREADY DONE THOSE SAME TESTS AND THE CAR PASSED THEM ALL. MERCEDES CORPORATE THEN TOLD THEM TO TELL ME THE CAR WAS FINE. AND I SHOULD PICK IT UP. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I'VE HAD THE SAME FAILURE, ALSO AT THE SAME ALTITUDE;HOWEVER THE FIRST TIME, AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE BRAKES WERE BACK UP AND USABLE. JUST BECAUSE THE CAR PASSES THEIR TESTS DOES NOT MEAN THERE IS NO PROBLEM-IT SIMPLY MEANS THEY HAVE NO TEST CAPABLE OF DISCOVERING THE CAUSE. MUST I DIE BEFORE THEY REPAIR THE CAR? I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MERCEDES-BENZ DEALER IN WILSONVILLE OREGON, THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE R320 CDI IS THE WORST CAR MERCEDES-BENZ EVER BUILT, AND THEY KEPT CHARGING FOR REPAIRS EACH TIME WITH A NEW PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE BRAKE LAMP IN THE REAR NEEDS A SOFTWARE UPDATE OTHER WISE MY LIGHTS WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. DO YOU THINK IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, IF MY TAIL LAMP AND MY BRAKE LAMP WILL NOT WORK UNTIL I UPDATE THE SOFTWARE FOR 150 DOLLARS?

ENGINE 'DIED' (VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER) WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I HAD TO PULL VEHICLE OVER ON SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH NO POWER ASSISTANCE STEERING OR BRAKING. BROUGH IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE 8/8/12, STALLED TWO MORE TIMES WHILE ENROUTE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A FAILED CAMSHAFT SENSOR. I LOOKED UP ALL SAFETY RECALLS ON VEHICLE, AND FOUND ONE FOR THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR IN 2008. I WAS TOLD THAT MY FAILED CAMSHAFT SENSOR IS DIFFERENT AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER, EVEN THOUGH IT PRODUCES THE SAME SYMPTOM/RESULT AS A FAILED CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. BOTH ITEMS PERFORM SIMARLARLY IN THAT THEY ASSURE CORRECT ENGINE TIMING, DISABLING THE ENGINE IF A FAILURE IS DETECTED IN EITHER PART! I STOPPED THE CAR AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND THERE WAS NO LIGHT FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES OF DRIVING, THEN THE LIGHTS BEGAN AGAIN ABS/ESP AND FLASHING INOPERATIVE LIGHT. I DROVE THE CAR HOME AS IT WAS SCHEDULED FOR AN APPOINTMENT THE FOLLOWING MORNING. THE NEXT MORNING I TRIED STARTING THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START AND STARTED BEEPING INCESSANTLY. THE CAR WAS INOPERATIVE AND WOULD NOT START OR CRANK. I HAD TO CALL MERCEDES BENZ ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO TRANSPORT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT WAS FOUNDED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A WIRING SENSOR PROBLEM CAUSING INACCURATE SIGNALS TO BE SENT TO THE ENGINE.

ESP INOPERATIVE MESSAGE APPEARS. WIPERS WENT ON (ALTHOUGH THEY WERE OFF AT THE TIME) TURN SIGNALS WERE INOPERATIVE AND INTERIOR LIGHTS NOT WORKING.. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE PARK OR REVERSE. I SHUT THE IGNITION OFF AND NEUTRAL WAS AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED BUT PARK STILL NOT WORKING. REMOVING THE KEY ENGAGED PARK. RESTARTING THE CAR THE ESP INOPERATIVE MESSAGE WAS STILL DISPLAYED AND DRIVE COULD NOT BE ENGAGED. AFTER LEAVING THE KEY REMOVED FOR 2-3 MINUTES ALL WAS CLEAR. NO RECURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM FOR 6 MONTHS THEN RECURRED ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2014 AND AGAIN ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2014. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. STABILITY CONTROL IS LOST ALONG WITH TURN SIGNALS AND EVEN IF YOU STOP THE CAR STAYS IN DRIVE AND REVERSE IS NOT AVAILABLE. PARK CAN ONLY BE ENGAGED BY REMOVING THE KEY. EACH RECURRENCE WAS THE SAME.
