The contact owns a 2013 Ram 3500. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V541000 (Steering); the contact stated that after the repair while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The contact stated that the track bar was recently replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to maneuver the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware of holes in the steering bracket. The contact called the dealer and attempted to purchase the brackets however, the contact was unsuccessful in retrieving the repair parts. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,000.

THE CONTACT STATED AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING SHE EXPERIENCED THE DEATH WOBBLE AND SKIMMED THE CEMENT WALL OF A BRIDGE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED NO ONE WAS INJURED OR SEEKED ANY MEDICAL ATTENTION. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED AN INTERIM REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO REQUIRED AN ALIGNMENT HOWEVER, DEALERS DECLINED TO PERFORM THE ALIGNMENT UNTIL THE REMEDY WAS FINALIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,203.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. WHEN THE TECHNICIAN LOOSENED THE TUBE RETAINING CLAMP TO ADJUST THE OUTER TIE ROD, ONE SIDE OF THE THREADED PORTION OF THE ADJUSTER TUBE, SOCKET, TIE ROD END (68369910AC) FELL ON THE GROUND. THE METAL WALL SHEARED AT THE START OF THE ADJUSTMENT THREADS AND SHOWED SIGNS OF METAL FATIGUE. THE OPPOSITE SIDE WAS FULLY CRACKED IN THE SAME LOCATION BUT HAD NOT SHEARED OFF THE ADJUSTER TUBE, SOCKET, TIE ROD END YET. IT TOOK VERY LITTLE EFFORT TO BREAK THE PIECE OFF BY HAND. FAILURE WOULD HAVE BEEN IMMINENT IF LEFT UNTOUCHED. FAILURE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT AN ALIGNMENT SHOP. THE ADJUSTER TUBE, SOCKET, TIE ROD END IS IDENTIFIED AS PART (1) IN THE ATTACHED DRAWING. FAILURE POINT IS AT THE END WHERE ADJUSTER TUBE (2) IS THREADED IN AND TUBE RETAINING CLAMPS (15) AND (16). ON DAY THREE THE DEALER INFORMED VEHICLE OWNER THAT THE DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP, UNDER NHTSA Recall Number17V-562 IS NOT REPAIRABLE AS FCA DOES NOT HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PART AVAILABLE, DEALER STATES THAT FCA HAS 160 NEW WATER PUMPS ON HAND AND ALL OF THEM ARE DEFECTIVE. THIS SAFETY RECALL REMAINS OPEN.

WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, AN ENGINE SPRING VALVE BROKE, CAUSING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE. THE ENGINE IS A TOTAL LOSS AND MUST BE REPLACED. WE ARE HOPING THERE ARE OTHERS OUT THERE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THAT SAME FAILURE SO THAT A RECALL CAN BE ISSUED. WE ARE CURRENTLY STUCK WITH THE $15K BILL.

I'VE HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN GOING OFF CONTINUALLY, I'VE HAD THE WATER PUMP AND CATALYST CONVERTER REPLACED JUST TO NAME A FEW, WHICH TO MY LUCK MY TRUCK WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, NOW IT'S NOT. AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF RANDOMLY, TRY TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE DIAGNOSED AND I'M TOLD THEY CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON, I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALER WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON AND NOW THIS TIME THERE WERE UP TO 5 ITEMS LISTED, THE ONE THAT CONCERNS ME IS THE ONE REGARDING THE TURBO ACTUATOR NOT COMMUNICATING. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE IT, THIS IS GOING TO COST ME $3900 ALONE, MY TRUCK ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 120000 MILES ON IT, FOR THIS MANY THINGS TO BE GOING WRONG I AM STARTING TO THING I MIGHT HAVE BOUGHT A LEMON. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE PEOPLE IN FORUMS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS WELL AS ONE PERSON WHO ALSO SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT HERE ON YOUR WEBSITE. MY TRUCK IS A LEMON. I'VE HAD OVER TEN RECALLS AND THE PROBLEMS JUST CONTINUE. NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THE DEALER TOLD ME MY TURBO ACTUATOR IS NOT COMMUNICATING WITH THE TURBO. THEY WANT TO REPLACE IT AT MY COST OF $3500. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 80K MILES ON IT. I TOLD THEM THE TURBO AND EVERYTHING STILL WORKS FINE!!!! JUST THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THEY SAID EVENTUALLY IT WILL GO BAD. THEY SAID I CAN STILL DRIVE IT BUT THAT AT ANY TIME IT COULD GO IN TO LIMP MODE WHERE IT SHUTS DOWN AND ONLY LETS YOU DRIVE 5MPH. THIS SOUNDS DANGEROUS! ESPECIALLY IF I'M PULLING A TRAILER. I ASKED HOW LONG BEFORE IT GOES BAD AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO IDEA!!! I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE A PART THAT STILL WORKS! THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A FAULTY PART THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. I'VE HAD 10 OR MORE RECALLS WITH THIS VEHICLE ALREADY. INCLUDING A ALTERNATOR THAT CAUGHT FIRE. I HAVE FOUR FRIENDS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. The contact owns a 2013 Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving 65-68 MPH over a bumpy road surface, the steering wheel and the front end of the vehicle shuddered significantly. The contact decelerated, exited the freeway, and pulled over to the shoulder of the road. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle had experienced the death wobble. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the upper ball joints and control arms needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the upper control arms. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where the upper ball joints were replaced. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving. The contact stated that the upper and lower ball joints, the control arms, the bushings, and other unknown parts were replaced several times; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH A RECALL ISSUED BY NHTSA. THE RECALL WAS V06 DRAG LINK. WHEN THE RECALL WA PREFORMED, THE ALIGNMENT NUTS ON THE DRAG LINK WERE WELDED SO THE COULDN'T COME LOOSE. I'VE HAD TO HAVE MY TRUCK REALIGNED 2 TIMES SINCE THE DRAG LINK NUTS WERE WELDED. AS OF RIGHT NOW THE NUTS ARE NOT WELDED AND THE INTEGRITY OF THE DRAG LINK IS COMPROMISED. I'VE HAD IT INTO 3 DIFFERENT INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS AND EACH SAY THAT WELDING THE NUTS SHOULD ONLY BE A TEMPORARY FIX NOT A PERMANENT FIX. SINCE THE WELDING, I'VE HAD STEERING ISSUES WITH MY TRUCK WHICH IS WHY I'VE HAD IT IN THE REAPIR SHOPS. I FEEL THAT THE DRAG LINK NEEDS A TOTAL REPLACEMENT AND NOT A BANDAID FIX. I'VE CONTACTED FCA 2 TIMES AND HAVE A CASE NUMBER, #[XXX]. THE CALLS MADE WERE ON OCT. 10 & OCT 24. I'VE ALSO CONTACTED THE THE RAM DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA WHERE I GET SERVICE DONE AND HAVE "0" RESPONSE FROM THEM. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. THE WELDING OF A STEERING COMPONENT (DRAG LINK) IS NOT A FIX. I HAVE HAD STEERING ISSUES AND DEATH WOBBLE OCCUR SINCE THIS RECALL WAS COMPLETED. I'VE HAD IT IN FOR 2 ALIGNMENTS. I RECEIVED IN LATE OCTOBER 2015 A LETTER FROM FCA (FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES) REGARDING SAFETY RECALL R46/NHTSA 15V-541, WHICH STATES 2013 RAM 3500 TRUCKS MAY HAVE AN IMPROPERLY WELDED FRONT SUSPENSION TRACK BAR FRAME BRACKET, WHICH COULD SEPARATE WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION INCLUDING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. BEFORE I WENT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THIS REMEDIED, I EXPERIENCED AN INCIDENT WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, WHERE THE FRONT END SUDDENLY STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND I LOST ALMOST ALL STEERING CONTROL, NARROWLY AVOIDING HITTING A FREEWAY SIGN AND EVENTUALLY STOPPING IN A DITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE SHOULDER. THIS WAS ALL RECORDED BY A DASHCAM VIDEO. UPON IMMEDIATE INSPECTION UNDER THE TRUCK, THE TRACK BAR MOUNTS WERE SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME, WELDS WERE BROKEN, LEAVING THE TRACK BAR DANGLING (SEE ATTACHED). THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE CLOSEST DEALER, AND UPON INITIAL INSPECTION THE DEALER ALSO STATED THIS APPEARED TO BE THE ISSUE THAT WAS UNDER RECALL, BUT THEY HAD NO REMEDY FROM FCA CORPORATE ON HOW TO FIX IT AS OF YET. FOR NEARLY A MONTH THE TRUCK SAT UNTOUCHED AT THE DEALER, UNSAFE TO DRIVE, UNTIL I WAS NOTIFIED ON 12/3/2015 THAT FCA WILL NOT HONOR HANDLING THIS RECALL PROBLEM BECAUSE I HAD MODIFIED THE TRUCK WITH A LIFT KIT. I SAY: THE LIFT KIT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE ACCELERATED THE FAILURE OF THE PART, BUT THE ULTIMATE REASON OF THIS SITUATION IS FCA'S POORLY MANUFACTURED PRODUCT IN WHICH A RECALL WAS REQUIRED, BUT ULTIMATELY NOT HONORED. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT AN ISSUE IN 2015 OR NEWER HEAVY DUTY RAMS, AS THE WELDING PROCESS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. THEREFORE, FCA CLEARLY ACKNOWLEDGES THIS ISSUE BUT WHEN IT IS TIME ACT UPON THIS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, THEY WOULD RATHER BLAME OTHERS. NOW I HAVE AN UNDRIVEABLE TRUCK THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHEN WILL BE FIXED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 DODGE RAM 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE AND BECAME LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. WHILE TRAVELING, THE STEERING LINKAGE FRACTURED AND THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY DRIVEN AND PARKED AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE DEALER SENT A TECHNICIAN TO FURTHER DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE IN WHICH THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE, BUT NO REMEDY WAS PROVIDED. THE DEALER ALSO REPAIRED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL THREE TIMES AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS ABNORMAL SWAYING IN THE REAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO SAFELY OPERATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS LESS THAN 3,000.

BATTERY DRAIN. BOUGHT SEVERAL BATTERIES OVER THE PAST 4 YEARS AND EACH BATTERY WILL LAST 2 MONTHS AFTER THAT I WOULD HAVE TO START THE TRUCK UP EVERY OTHER DAY, SO THE BATTERY WOULDN' T GO DEAD. .

THE ALTERNATOR CAUGHT ON FIRE. TRUCK HAS 62000 MILES ON IT. THE BATTERY LOW VOLTAGE CAME ON. AFTER THE TRUCK RAN FOR A MINUTE IT WENT OUT. I RAN THE TRUCK FOR TEN MINUTES. AFTER I PARKED THE TRUCK AND WENT INSIDE I COULD SMELL SOMETHING. WHEN I STEPPED OUT MY DOOR AND LOOKED SMOKE WAS ROLLING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I GRABBED THE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT IT OUT. I THEN SPRAYED IT DOWN WITH WATER TO COOL IT. IT TOOK SOME TIME.

I WENT TO START MY VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY ON 5/23/2019. THE VEHICLE GAVE ME A LOW BATTERY INDICATION AND IMMEDIATELY SMELLED BURNING PLASTIC. SHUT THE VERTICLE OFF, HAD EVERYONE EXIT THE VEHICLE AND POPPED THE HOOD UP. SMOKE WAS POURING OUT OF THE ALTERNATOR THAT HAD BEEN "INSPECTED " INSTEAD OF BEING REPLACED ACCORDING TO THE S68 RECALL BULLETIN 3MONTHS EARLIER. MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCES A PHENOMENON COMMONLY KNOWN AS 'DEATH WOBBLE'. (GOOGLE '2013 DODGE RAM 3500 DEATH WOBBLE' TO VIEW VIDEOS OF THIS ISSUE). WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND ENCOUNTERING A CERTAIN CURVE RADIUS COMBINED WITH A BUMP OR DEFECT IN THE ROADWAY SURFACE, THE FRONT SUSPENSION BEGINS VIOLENTLY VIBRATING. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND THIS VIBRATION CANNOT BE STOPPED BY HOLDING THE WHEEL. APPLYING THE BRAKES TRANSMITS THE VIBRATION TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN BY REMOVING ANY INPUT TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHEN THE VEHICLE SPEED DROPS TO BELOW APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VIBRATION CEASES. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME NUMEROUS TIMES AND MAKES ME FEEL AS IF I COULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR ON A WET OR SNOW COVERED ROADWAY, I THINK THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD MOST LIKELY SPIN OUT OF CONTROL. I HAVE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN TO TWO DIFFERENT DODGE DEALERS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE 'UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE'. THIS IS NOT SURPRISING SINCE IT REQUIRES A VERY SPECIFIC COMBINATION OF VEHICLE SPEED, STEERING ANGLE, AND BUMP OR OTHER INPUT TO THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY COVERAGE WHEN I COMPLAINED OF THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALERS. MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY COVERAGE BUT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS THIS ISSUE. THE DEALERS TELL ME I HAVE TO TAKE IT UP WITH DODGE TO TRY AND GET THEM TO COVER THIS. NOT SURPRISINGLY, DODGE TELLS ME I HAVE TO TAKE IT UP WITH THE DEALERS.

MY VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR A 5TH TIME FOR THE SAME ISSUE OF THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, MESSAGE SAID ERROR WITH DEF SYSTEM , CALL DEALER. THEN MESSAGE CAME UP AND SAID IN 200 MILES TRUCK WILL SHUT DOWN TO ONLY 5 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP AND NOW WARRANTY IS REFUSING TO FIX IT AGAIN BASING THEIR CASE ON "CONTAMINATED DEF" FLUID AS THE CAUSE. I WAS TOLD THIS IS AN ISSUE ON THESE TRUCKS AND TO FIX WOULD BE $1700 OUT OF POCKET EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. ONCE THE DEF WAS CALLED "CONTAMINATED", EVERYONE STARTING CALLING ME ASKING FOR $ TO REPAIR THE SYSTEM SAYING IT WAS MY FAULT THE FLUID GOT CONTAMINATED. DISTANCE DRIVEN FROM DEF ERROR CODE 3 REPAIR AT THE DEALER TO DEF ERROR CODE 4, LESS THAN 100 MILES AND NO DEF FLUID WAS ADDED SINCE IT LEFT THE DEALER. THE PROBLEM IS RECURRING AND NO ONE WANTS TO FIX IT. TRUCK IS SITTING AT THE DEALER AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE 200 MILE SHUT DOWN SAFETY ISSUE.

Driving the Ram on the expressway, my son in law went from 70 miles per hour ( 30 lbs of boost) to 45 miles per hour (10 LBS of boost). So thankful it did not cause a rear end accident. Taking it in to the dealership to get fixed they said it was the turbocharger actuator then gave me the price.$11,314.32. I have a trucking company so I bought the part for $1409.71 and my diesel mechanic did the repairs for a fraction of the cost. Then I get a letter in the mail from FCA US LLC Customer Center Reimbursement, for this same problem BUT on my 2015 Ram 3C63R3EL4FG523122. My issue is this it's the same part, for the 2013 and 2015 Ram Pickup truck 3500. It should have been a recall not an extended warranty for all the vehicle years that this part is in their trucks . Someone is going to get hurt. The Customer Center declined the reimbursement and to even discuss the situation they hung up on me for the representative told me I was wasting his time and he had other calls to take.

Took truck to Mac Haik here in Houston to perform the recall.The jam nut on drag link was welded,which was not a fix.Went back after being told truck can't be aligned with the drag link being welded.Was told I'd have to pay out of pocket for the weld to be cut,which sense have led to other issues with the front suspension. Attached is docs concerning this matter .....I been having a open claim with Dodge Chrysler and Jeep for over 2 years.Is there any remedy for such a problem?

The contact owns a 2013 Ram 3500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V821000 (Power Train). The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was inspected and repaired. Years later, the contact stated that upon shifting the gear lever to DRIVE, the shifter moved to LOW and remained stuck in the LOW gear. After multiple attempts, the contact was able to shift the vehicle into PARK; however, the transmission remained in NEUTRAL. The contact was forced to keep his foot on the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from moving forward. The contact was eventually able to correct the failure; however, no warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was no longer under the recall. The vehicle had was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

ALSO, THE SHIFT LEVER WILL BECOME STUCK AND MUST BE FORCIBLY TAKEN BACK INTO GEAR TO TRY TO SHIFT AGAIN BACK INTO PARK. THE LEVER ACTS AS IF IT HAS FOUND A 'NEW' SLOT BETWEEN PARK AND REVERSE. ALSO, WHEN THIS YELLOW COLOR SHOWS ON MY PRND INDICATOR, IF I AM NEGLIGENT IN NOT GETTING THE VEHICLE FULLY BACK INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET THE SHIFT LEVER OUT OF THE SPOT IT WAS STUCK IN BETWEEN PARK AND REVERSE. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO A TIRE REPAIR SHOP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. OUR TRUCK HAS STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY, SEEMINGLY RANDOMLY, AT FREEWAY SPEEDS (HAS ONLY OCCURRED AT 50+MPH). THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE WHOLE TRUCK BEGINS VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND BECOMES NEARLY UNCONTROLLABLE WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS- IT HAPPENS INSTANTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT WARNING! ON JUNE 1, 2013, I WAS DRIVING THE DODGE RAM 3500 AT HIGHWAY SPEED (APPROX. 60 MPH) WHEN THE STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND 4-WAY EMERGENCY FLASHERS FAILED. I DRIFTED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND CAME TO A STOP. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. MY PHONE LOG SHOWS THIS CALL STARTED AT 8:40AM AND LASTED 9 MINUTES. DURING THE CALL, WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION INCIDENT RESPONSE STOPPED AT THE SCENE AND NEITHER OF US REALIZED THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM AND WA DOT LEFT THE SCENE. NEAR THE END OF THE CALL, I NOTICED SMOKE POURING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. AT THAT TIME, I NOTICED BURNING MATERIAL ON THE GROUND UNDER THE TRUCK'S ENGINE. I HUNG UP WITH ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND CALLED 911 AT 8:49AM. AT THAT TIME, AT LEAST 4 LAW ENFORCEMENT, 2 FIRE ENGINES, AND WA DOT ARRIVED ON SCENE AND SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE STATE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE FIRE. ONE LANE OF THE HIGHWAY WAS REOPENED JUST BEFORE 9:20AM. WHEN I LEFT THE SCENE, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS STILL ACTIVELY WORKING TO CONTROL THE BLAZE AND HAD CUT OPEN THE TRUCK'S HOOD TO BETTER ACCESS THE FIRE. AFTER THE FIRE, I RE-READ THE RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE'S ALTERNATOR AND BELIEVE THIS PROBABLY CAUSED THE NEAR-CRASH AND FIRE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 DODGE RAM 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOR OF DIESEL FUEL WAS PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. When having to brake hard, the lining of the pressure line from the pump to the hydro booster comes apart and causes the brakes to not work and the power steering to act up. The plastic lining shoots into the booster causing it to fail. They don’t make a replacement line so I was forced to fabricate one. Very expensive fix.

The contact owns a 2013 Ram 3500. The contact stated that the tailgate would fall open unintendedly while driving and the tailgate would fail to close securely after several attempts. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the tailgate was replaced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V347000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages); however, the failure reoccurred while the contact was attempting to drive off the dealer's parking lot. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The contact stated that the following day, the dealer was able to close the tailgate securely; however, the failure persisted while driving. The dealer notified the manufacturer of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

DODGE DEATH WOBBLE. WHILE DRIVING OUR 2013 DODGE RAM 3500 6.7 TURBO DIESEL PICKUP TRUCK AT ABOUT 40 MPH THE FRONT END STARTED VIOLENTLY SHACKING. I COULD NOT STEER OR CONTROL THE VEHICLE AT THAT POINT. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW TWICE. FIRST TIME I WAS ON A FREEWAY AND ALMOST CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND THE SECOND TIME I WAS ON A TWO LANE HWY AND ALMOST DROVE OFF A CLIFF. ON DEC. 15, 2014 I RECEIVED A RECALL ON MY 2013 DODGE RAM 2500 DIESEL. THE RECALL WAS FOR A INLINE FUEL HEATER THAT MAY CATCH FIRE, IT HAD NO APPARENT FIX, NO PARTS, NO INSTRUCTIONS AND NO TIMELINE AS TO WHEN IT WOULD OR COULD BE FIXED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT MY CONCERNS, HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A REMOTE POSSIBILITY NEXT TO NONE, THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD CATCH FIRE. I ASKED HIM IF I COULD PARK IT INSIDE AND HE SAID YES, AND THAT THE RECALL WAS JUST BEING SENT OUT AS A PRECAUTION. ON THE EVENING OF JAN 28TH 2015 AT APPROXIMATELY 0:920 PM SMOKE DETECTORS ALERTED MY DOG AND HE WOKE ME UP. I WOKE MY WIFE UP YELLING (FIRE) I PANICKED I TOOK IN A DEEP BREATH COVERED MY MOUTH WITH MY FOREARM, OPENED THE PERSONAL ENTRY DOOR AND STEPPED INSIDE THE GARAGE NOT REALIZING HOW BAD IT WAS. THE AMOUNT OF HEAT BEING GENERATED FROM THE DIESEL FUEL AND THE STRUCTURE WAS SO HOT THE BACK DRAFT PULLED THE DOOR OUT OF MY HAND TRAPPING ME IN THE GARAGE AND BECAUSE IT WAS A SCHLAGE COMBINATION STYLE THERE WAS NO TURNING BACK, ALL I COULD SEE WAS COMPLETE BLACK AND RED, RED FLAMES WAS SHOOTING OUT FROM UNDER MY TRUCK. MY NEIGHBOR WAS KICKING ON MY GARAGE DOOR YELLING TO WAKE UP. I PANICKED AGAIN AND HIT THE UP BUTTON ON THE MAIN GARAGE DOOR HOPING TO MAKE A RUN FOR IT, THE GARAGE DOOR WENT UP ABOUT A FOOT AND FELL HARD BECAUSE IT PULLED THE DOOR MOTOR FROM THE MOUNTING BRACKETS. I KNEW THE ONLY WAY OUT WAS THE FRONT DOOR I USED THE SIDE OF THE DODGE AS A GUIDE AND BURNT MY LEFT HAND, MADE IT OUT THE DOOR AND MY NEIGHBOR HANDED ME THE GARDEN HOSE HANGING ON THE FENCE. ALL FIRE REPORTS INDICATE THE FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE DODGE, THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR FROM CHRYSLER SAID IN FRONT OF LARAMIE COUNTY ARSON INVESTIGATORS THAT IT ORIGINATED AT THE FUEL HEATER. THE NEW DODGE RAM EQUIPPED WITH CUMMINS DIESEL EXPERIENCE A DEAD PEDAL, OR PEDAL DELAY WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL 3/4 TO FULL THROTTLE. THIS POSES A SERIOUS RISK WHEN NEEDING TO GET OUT OF THE WAY, OR MOVE THE VEHICLE UNDER EMERGENCY CIRCUMSTANCES. THIS HAPPENS UNDER ALL CONDITIONS: STOPPED, ROLLING, UNDER ACCELERATION ETC. IF YOU PUSH THE PEDAL TOO FAR THE TRUCK WILL NOT RESPOND TO OPERATOR COMMANDS AND WILL TAKE 1.5-2 SECONDS TO START PICKING UP SPEED. OUR RAM 3500 SEEMS TO HAVE A WIRE CHAFING PROBLEM. ON 26 JUNE 2014 THE TRUCK LOCKED IN 4TH GEAR. ECM WAS REPLACED IN FAIRBANKS AT 16490 MILES. ON 18 JULY 2014 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AT 18481 MILES, THE DEALER IN SOLDOTNA AK FOUND A CHAFED WIRE IN THE WIRING LOOM. ON 29 JULY 2014, THE TRUCK COMPLETELY DIED, THE ECM FUSE WAS BLOWN. THE PCM WAS REPLACED. ON 26 JULY 2015, THE TRUCK COMPLETELY DIED AGAIN, ECM FUSE WAS BLOWN. MILEAGE WAS 31421. PRESTIGE DODGE IN LONGMONT CO REPLACED THE ECM AND THEN ON THE TEST DRIVE THE TRUCK LOCKED INTO 4TH GEAR. THEY THEN REPLACED A PORTION OF THE WIRING HARNESS TO CORRECT A CHAFED WIRE. I WAS RECENTLY NOTIFIED ABOUT ANOTHER WIRE CHAFING PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAGS. I MUST WONDER IF SOMEHOW THERE IS A WIRING LOOM PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL TRUCK. JULY 17, 2015 - WHILE STATIONARY, I STARTED TRUCK ONLY TO HAVE ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH ILLUMINATE, WIPERS ACTIVATE ON THEIR OWN, AND RADIO UNIT POWER OFF. EVENTUALLY, ALL POWER WAS LOST TO THE DASH. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. TRUCK RECEIVED NEW PCM AND WAS RETURNED TO ME. JULY 17, 2015 - LATER THAT EVENING, THE TRUCK WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. TRUCK WAS IN THE SERVICE CENTER FOR TWO MONTHS RECEIVING A NEW WIRING HARNESS AND NEW COMPUTERS. SEPTEMBER 16, 2015 - TRUCK RETURNED TO ME. OCTOBER 13, 2015 - WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET THE TRUCK EXHIBITED THE SAME PROBLEM. MOMENTARILY LOST ENGINE POWER AND TRANSMISSION FUNCTIONALITY. LOST ALL POWER TO DASH INCLUDING TRAILER BRAKES. THE TRUCK SAT IDLING FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR WHILE WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK. I HAVE RECORDED VIDEO OF THE DASH CONTINUING TO FLICKER AND POWER UP AND DOWN ERRATICALLY. OCTOBER 16, 2015 - TRUCK STILL AT SERVICE CENTER AWAITING DIAGNOSIS AND PARTS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 RAM 3500. WHILE DRIVING OVER 20 MPH OVER A POTHOLE, THE VEHICLE STEERED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, SHOOK TREMENDOUSLY, AND TILTED TO ONE SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A TRACTION CONTROL MODULE, WHICH AUTOMATICALLY TOOK OVER THE CONTROL OF THE WHEELS TO MAINTAIN BALANCE WHEN THE VEHICLE HITS A BUMP. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,700.

TRUCK LOSES POWER WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A DEAD STOP. AS THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED OR FEATHERED, THE ENGINE LOSES ALL POWER FOR 2-3 SECONDS LEAVING THE DRIVER HELPLESS. IF I ALLOW THE ACCELERATOR TO RETURN TO IDLE POSITION AND THEN DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN, THE ENGINE REGAINS POWER AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION AS I WAS TOWING A 12K POUND TRAILER AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO PULL ONTO THE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, I WAS IN JEOPARDY OF BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAULT. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS ISSUE HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER A LOAD. HAD BEEN NOTICING A SHIMMY IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION AREA. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD HAVE A VERY SLIGHT VIBRATION AFTER HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD WHEN DRIVING 35MPH OR GREATER. THIS ISSUE HAS CONTINUED FOR MONTHS WITH SEVERAL VISIT TO DEALERSHIP WHO HAS BEEN UNABLE TO PROPERLY IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS NOW BECOME A "DEATH WOBBLE" THAT WILL SHAKE STEERING WHEEL VIOLENTLY AND ALMOST SHAKE THE ENTIRE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD, THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL MORE ATTEMPT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH NO RESOLVE. I EXPERIENCED A SEVERE CASE OF THE DODGE "DEATH WOBBLE." THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME IN TWO MONTHS AND THIS WAS THE WORST YET. I WAS DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 60. THE LEFT FROM TIRE HIT A SMALL BUMP - MAYBE AN INCH DEEP. THE TRUCK BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND WAS NOT CONTROLLABLE. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES TO STOP THE SHAKING BUT IT KEEP SHAKING VIOLENTLY AS LONG AS IT WAS MOVING. I FINALLY SLID OFF THE ROAD SIDEWAYS AND ENDED UP ON THE SHOULDER. MY 2013 DODGE DIESEL CONSUMES 1 GALLON OF DEF (DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID ) EVERY 85 MILES WHILE TOWING. THE NATIONAL AVERAGE IS ABOUT 1000MPG. IT IS USING 10 TIMES THE AVERAGE.
