I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT RIGHT OFF A HIGHWAY EXIT ON A BUSY MALL ROAD. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED AND I TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. ENGINE WAS RUNNING, EVERYTHING WAS WORKING PERFECTLY BUT CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I TRIED TO TURN OFF AND RESTART SEVERAL TIMES TO NO AVAIL. ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL OR ANY OTHER GEAR AND ALTHOUGH SHIFT MOVED CAR STILL WOULD NOT RESPOND. CAR COULD NOT EVEN BE PUSHED OFF OF ROAD IN NEUTRAL. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND SAT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. WHEN THE MECHANIC TURNED THE CAR ON IT PRESENTED NO ISSUES, RAN PERFECTLY FINE AND NO SIGNS OF PROBLEMS ON DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER. THE CAR RAN PERFECTLY FOR ANOTHER WEEK OR SO UNTIL MY FATHER WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN COULD FEEL THAT CAR WAS JUST ROLLING, AND THE POWER WAS GONE. HE WAS COASTING IN HIGH SPEED LANE OF INTERSTATE. LUCKILY HE PULLED TO SAFETY. WHEN CAR WAS TOWED TO SAME MECHANIC IT WAS CLEAR THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WITH NO WARNINGS THIS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED CAR JUST GAVE OUT AND PUT MYSELF AND MY FATHER IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHERE WE COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY OTHER CARS. I was driving my 2007 Toyota Avalon returning home from work and was driving on a local road at approximately 25 MPH and turning my vehicle towards right on a curved road and the steering wheel seized and car veered and jumped the curb causing the passenger side bottom of car protection plastic guard clips damaged. No other damage to car observed other than minor scratches to front bumper due to tree limbs on grassy island next to curb. Hit the brakes hard and was able to stop vehicle stopping just before it could hit the tree on side of road. No warning lights were illuminated. No air bags were deployed. Was able to restart the vehicle and reversing down on the road and eventually was able to unseize the steering wheel. Was able to drive the car home and will be taking it to either Toyota dealer or vehicle repair shop for further diagnosis. No injures were sustained. No police report was filed. Will be calling the manufacturer to notify steering wheel seizure. The mileage of car was around 205,000+ miles.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 MPH and attempting to make a turn, the steering wheel had seized causing a crash. The front passenger side and rear passenger side bumper impacted into a guard rail during the crash. No warning lights had illuminated. No air bags deployed. The contact managed to restart the vehicle and the failure was temporarily fixed. No injuries were sustained. No police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the insurance provider for further diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired as of yet. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

Steering wheel locked up while driving ! No warning lights. steering bracket assembly is the issue . Same issue with 2000-2004 Avalons …all were recalled and fixed but anything after those years are not recalled or fixed . This is clearly a defect and should be recalled again before someone has a bad accident .

I am the owner of the 2007 Toyota Avalon that my son was driving. He experienced a very dangerous situation where his steering wheel getting locked while driving on Dec 10, 2021 afternoon. He stopped the car immediately by slamming on the brakes. The car was towed to a local Toyota dealership, Toyota of Redlands, California. The Service Manager Todd Klingbeil was able to reproduce the issue based on the earlier Toyota Recall information for 2000-2004 Avalons, and they replaced the steering bracket assembly. It is clear that my 2007 Avalon car experienced similar Steering locking issue/defect like in the Toyota Avalon 2000-2004 recall bulletin. I brought the matter to the attention of Toyota (manufacturer), but they simply ignored the matter saying there is no recall for 2007 Avalon, and they would not cover the cost nor reimburse me. And they never responded to my fax, emails and phone calls.

I AM USED TO THE BRAKES AND DO NOT BELIEVE THEY WILL ACTUALLY FAIL ME. MY WIFE, WHEN SHE DRIVES THE CAR (SHE OWNS A 2002 SANTA FE) COMPLAINS THAT THE BRAKES SINK ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I GRANT THAT THE PEDAL TRAVEL FEELS MORE THAN ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN (MORE THAN 30 MODELS OVER THE YEARS). I, BEING VERY CONCERNED ABOUT BRAKES, BROUGHT THE CAR TO TOYOTA WHO CHECKED THE BRAKES, ADJUSTED SOMETHING BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PEDAL TRAVEL. THE BRAKE PEDAL SINKS SLOWLY ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WHEN STOPPED WITH PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THAT IS A VERY DISCONCERTING FEELING WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL SINKS SLOWLY TO THE FLOOR; IT ACTUALLY STOPS ONLY AT THE BOTTOM MECHANICAL STOP FOR THE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THREE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERS, AND THE COMPLAINT HAS BEEN FILED WITH TOYOTA USA AND TOYOTA JAPAN. THE LOCAL DEALERS SAY IT IS A NORMAL CONDITION, THAT'S PREPOSTEROUS. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA AVALON AND CAMRY AROUND THE 2007 PRODUCTION YEAR. SUBJECT VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM IS BELIEVED TO BE AN INTERNAL LEAK IN THE ANTI-SKID SYSTEM. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERS WILL NOT MAKE THE NEEDED REPAIRS. I REQUESTED THAT TOYOTA USA SERVICE REPS INSPECT MY CAR ON THEIR NEXT VISIT TO THIS AREA, AND THAT REQUEST WAS REFUSED BY FINDLAY TOYOTA OF HENDERSON. IN MY OPINION AND BASED ON MY RECENT INTERACTION WITH TOYOTA, THEY ARE NOT BEING HONEST ABOUT THEIR SAFETY ISSUES WITH PUBLIC. TWO WEEKS AGO, I TOOK MY TOYOTA AVALON 2007 WITH ONLY 33452 MILES TO BOB SMITH TOYOTA BECAUSE BREAK FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT FROM BREAK MASTER CYLINDER. THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND MASTER CYLINDER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I LEFT THE CAR TO BE REPAIRED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND NOTICE THAT TOYOTA HAS A RECALL FOR 2005 AND 2006 AVALON FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUES HTTP://WWW.TOYOTA.COM/RECALL/AVALON-HIGHLANDER.HTML. FURTHER RESEARCH AND BASED ON DATA FROM DEALERSHIP, TOYOTA AVALON MADE PRIOR TO 7/2007, USE THE SAME BREAK MASTER CYLINDER AS THE ONES BEING RECALLED, PART #ID # 47028-0710. WHEN I ASKED TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT THIS, THEY TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA HAS ONLY RECALLED 2005 AND 2006 AND CAN NOT OFFER ANY EVIDENCE THAT PART USED IN 2007 WAS ANY DIFFERENT. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I CONTACT TOYOTA WHICH I DID. IN RETURN, THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER MULTIPLE FOLLOW UP, WHICH I HAVE DOCUMENTED AND WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO FORWARD TO YOU, NO ONE IS GIVING ME ANY EVIDENCE THAT MASTER CYLINDER IN AVALONS BUILD BEFORE 7/2007, ARE ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE ONES THEY RECALLED. THE CAR WAS IN THEIR SHOP FOR 12 DAYS, I JUST PAID FOR REPAIR AND ASKED FOR THE OLD PART. HOWEVER, IF IT IS THE CASE THAT TOYOTA HAS DECIDED TO DO IGNORE THIS ISSUES WITH 2007 AVALON, THEY ARE PUTTING A LOT OF LIVES AT RISK. I AM ASKING FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS, NOT BECAUSE OF ME BUT ALL THE OTHER FAMILIES DRIVING A CAR WHICH HAS FAULTY BREAK SYSTEM. Instrument cover and glove box has turned sticky and very reflective. Sun can reflect up to windshield and nearly complete obscure visibility. Toyota replaced many on their own but now will not honor the recall.

DASHBOARD AND PANEL HAVE MELTED AND CRACKED, CREATING A GLARE FROM THE SHINY AND STICKY SURFACE. THIS IS MAKING THE VEHICLE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THIS HAS ALSO CREATED A CONCERN NOT ONLY FOR THE GLARE, BUT FOR THE CHEMICAL ELEMENTS THIS HAS DISPERSED INTO THE VEHICLE.I CALLED TOYOTA IN '18, BUT WAS TOLD VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD NOT CONSIDER THIS A WARRANTY PROBLEM, BUT A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE REGARDING THIS DETERIORATION CONDITION. VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE OR RIDE IN. FIRST NOTICED THIS IN LATE '12 AND THIS HAS GOTTEN MUCH, MUCH WORSE EVEN THOUGH IS IT GARAGED THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

THE REAR SUNSHADE WENT UP ON IT'S OWN WHEN I STARTED MY CAR AND NOW IT WILL NOT GO DOWN. MY CAR MAKES A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN PUT IN REVERSE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS WITH THE TOYOTA AVALON LIMITED WITH MANY COMPLAINTS ON LINE. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN BACKING UP OR DRIVING AT NIGHT. THIS IS NOT AN EASY FIX AND TYPICALLY COSTS WELL OVER $1,000 TO REPAIR.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW CAME WITH A SUN SHADE THAT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY COME DOWN OR GO UP WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. SHE STATED THAT THE SHADE WOULD NOT COME DOWN WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AND WHEN THE SUN WOULD SET, THE SHADE WOULD CAUSE LIMITED VISIBILITY THROUGH THE REAR WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HER THEY COULD NOT ASSIST ANY FURTHER THAN ADVISING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DASH INDICATOR ON MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON SIGNALED THAT WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID WAS LOW. I FILLED THE TANK WITH FLUID. THE NEXT DAY A POOL OF WASHER FLUID WAS ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR SERVICE ON 2/14/2009. I WAS TOLD LEAKING WAS A COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE THE OE LINE USED TO CARRY FLUID THROUGH THE SYSTEM WAS THE WRONG SIZE. THE DEALER REMOVED THE INCORRECT LINE AND REPLACED IT WITH THE RECOMMENDED CORRECT SIZED LINE. I WAS CHARGED $78.26 FOR PARTS AND SERVICE. WHEN I COMPLAINED THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE OE WAS NOT THE RIGHT SIZE, I WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT TOYOTA CORPORATE FOR RELIEF. Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2007 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that the transmission fluid was low. The contact became aware that transmission fluid was leaking from the vehicle. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 123,226 and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 311,025.

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR INSPECTED AT THE TIME THE COMPLAINT.THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,746. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,650.

IN JULY 2013, MY PERFECTLY WONDERFUL TOYOTA AVALON (2007, 67,700 MILES) RUPTURED A TTVI OIL HOSE AND WITHIN A MATTER OF MINUTES BLEW UP MY ENGINE. UPON CONTACTING TOYOTA, I WAS TOLD THERE HAD BEEN A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM FOR CAMRYS AND AVALONS INCLUDING MY YEAR AND MODEL, BUT THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED NOR COVERED BECAUSE MY VIN #WAS OUTSIDE THE PARAMETERS. I FILED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS AN APPEAL OF THIS PHONE AND LOCAL DEALER DETERMINATION. I RECEIVED ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF MY COMPLAINT (1307241937) BUT NO DETERMINATION. I JUST CALLED TOYOTA NATIONAL TORRANCE, AND WAS TOLD MY STATUS WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THEY HAD DETERMINED MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED-- MY APPEAL WAS TO THE POINT OF WHY MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED. I LIVE IN KY, 20 MILES FROM THE TOYOTA PLANT AND HAVE MANY FRIENDS THAT WORK THERE. MANY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE VIN IS AN UNRELIABLE PARAMETER, BECAUSE OFTEN THEY HAVE OLD PARTS ON THEIR TRAYS THAT ARE INSTALLED ON LATER VEHICLES. EVERY PARTY AGREES THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE CAMPAIGN ON THE EXACT RARE DEFECT-ORIGINATED PROBLEM AND THAT MY DAMAGE WAS THE RESULT OF THE EXACT DEFECT DESCRIBED IN THE CAMPAIGN. UPON TRAVELING THROUGH NASH, TX ON NOVEMBER 5, 2013, THE OIL LIGHT ON MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON CAME ON. THE LEAKING LINE OVER THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BUSTED. I PULLED INTO ROBBINS TOYOTA. I SPOKE WITH SERVICE CONSULTANT [XXX]. HE ASKED ME WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND I STATED MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS EXPERIENCING AN OIL LEAK. HE SAID HE KNEW WHAT IS WAS AND GOT MY INFORMATION AND HOW I WAS GOING TO PAY. I TOLD HIM CASH, CREDIT, OR CHECK. THEN HE ASKED WHERE I WAS FROM. I TOLD HIM GEORGIA. HE SAID HE HAD THE PART TO FIX IT AND I ASKED [XXX] HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST ME? HE REPLIED $400. I SAID THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT FOR A 6 INCH HOSE. HE STATED I COULD HAVE IT FIXED SOMEWHERE ELSE BUT THEY HAD THE PART IN STOCK. I SAID YOU KNOW I CANT DRIVE THIS CAR LIKE THIS SO GO AHEAD AND FIX IT. THEY FIXED IT BUT ONLY CHARGED ME $339. I WAS THERE FOR TWO HOURS AND THEY CHARGED ME WITH TWO AND A HALF HOURS. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA IT SHOULD TAKE LESS THAN AN HOUR. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA ON NOVEMBER 29, 2014 THAT THIS PART ON MY 2007 YEAR MODEL TOYOTA HAD BEEN RECALLED. THE LETTER STATED IF THE PART HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT REPLACED BY DECEMBER 31, 2021. I SENT ALL THE INFORMATION THE LETTER STATED AND WAS SENT A LETTER BACK SAYING I WAS DECLINED FOR NOT SENDING EVERYTHING THAT WAS ASKED. INITIAL ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR WAS @ $6400 AS CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE. AFTER DISCUSSION, THE DEALER GOT TOYOTA TO PICK UP THE COST OF MOST OF THE PARTS. I PAID $2527 FOR LABOR AND $28.57 FOR PARTS. SUBSEQUENTLY THE DEALER ADVISED ME THAT THE PROBLEM HAD OCCASIONED A TOYOTA RECALL. I SUBMITTED A CLAIM A MONTH AGO TO TOYOTA FOR A REFUND, BUT HAVE HAD NO REPLY FROM THE COMPANY.

INJURIES TO HIS LOWER LEGS ARE EXTENSIVE AND I THINK THESE INJURIES WERE CAUSED BY THE EXPLOSIVE FORCE OF THE KNEE AIRBAG. HIS LEFT LEG SUSTAINED A LARGE LACERATION ABOUT 6 INCHES LONG BY 4 INCHES WIDE. AND A LARGE AREA OF TISSUE DAMAGE. THE LACERATION COULD NOT BE SUTURED AND HAS REMAINED OPEN FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS. A VERY LARGE AREA OF TISSUE HAS GANGRENE BECAUSE OF THE EXTENT OF THE INJURY. HIS RIGHT LOWER LEG WAS COMPLETELY ECCHYMOTIC AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND THERE IS NOW A LOCALIZED AREA OF TISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE DEBRIDED. (IT LOOKS LIKE A HUGE BLOOD BLISTER.) EXTENSIVE DEBRIDEMENT OF TISSUE WILL BE DONE ON BOTH LEGS NEXT WEEK. FOR THE FIRST DAY FOLLOWING THE ACCIDENT, WE HAD NO IDEA HOW HIS LOWER LEGS COULD HAVE SUSTAINED SUCH INJURIES. SHORTLY AFTER THE ACCIDENT, MY HUSBAND MENTIONED THAT SOMEHOW HE COULDN'T STEP ON THE BRAKE AFTER FEELING THE IMPACT OF THE CAR THAT HIT HIM. WHEN I WENT TO VIEW OUR DAMAGED CAR I WAS VERY SURPRISED TO SEE THE AIR BAG THAT WAS LOCATED AT THE LEVEL OF THE DRIVER'S LEGS. ON MARCH 19, 2008, MY STEP-SON WAS KILLED IN TAMPA, FLORIDA WHILE DRIVING HIS 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. HE HAD JUST DROPPED MY SISTER-IN-LAW OFF AT THE AIRPORT AND WAS TRAVELLING ON THE COURTNEY CAMPBELL PARKWAY WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED. HE EXITED ONTO A SERVICE ROAD, POSTED AT 15 MPH, AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, CRASHING THROUGH A GUARDRAIL AND PLUNGING INTO TAMPA BAY. HE DID NOT GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. The dashboard melts/gets sticky when it is hot and humid outside. Once the dashboard is in the sticky state, it appears wet with melted/sticky plastic. When we look out the front windshield while driving, the sun reflects off of the extra shiny sticky dashboard and the experience of the entire front dashboard surface reflecting the sun is like looking directly into the sun. You cannot see out the front windshield because the glare is too severe because of the shiny dashboard top. Even with sunglasses on and visor down, it is impossible to see ahead of the car while driving because of the blinding glare. The glare off of the sticky dashboard and the reflection of the dashboard onto the inside of the windshield is very scary. The Toyota dealer said that they are aware of the issue and extended the warranty to replace the dashboard because of the problem, but they did NOT issue a recall. The extended warranty expired, ironically, this vehicle has been kept in a garage since it was bought in 2007 and only has 50,000 miles on it now...so we didn't know there was a problem until several years after their extended warranty expired in 2017. The dealer said that I would have to pay out of pocket to replace the dashboard and they would not pay for it. We called Toyota "Resolution Department" and they said the same thing. We asked them if they admit that it is a factory defect and it creates a dangerous driving situation, why would they not want to make it right?

I RECEIVED A MAT RECALL LETTER FROM TOYOTA FOR MY 2007 AVALON BACK IN THE FALL. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REMEDY NOTICE TO HAVE IT FIXED AT THE LOCAL DEALER. 2007 TOYOTA AVALON [XXX], 21,000 MILES, THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE "SMART KEY SYSTEM". PARKED VEHICLE AT LOCAL WALMART STORE LOCKED DOORS WITH PUSH BUTTON AT EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE, I HAD LEFT THE KEY FOB IN THE VEHICLE! ! THE DOORS SHOULD NOT LOCK IN THIS SITUATION, HOWEVER THEY DID! AFTER SHOPPING I RETURNED TO VEHICLE AND TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO UNLOCK DOORS, THE DOORS DID NOT UNLOCK. HAD TO HAVE FRIEND DRIVE ME HOME TO PICK UP SPARE FOB. THE SPARE FOB UNLOCKED THE DOORS. THIS VEHICLE HAS AN AUTOMATIC UNLOCKING FEATURE THAT IS LINKED TO THE SHIFT. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN "PARK, " ALL 4 DOORS AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK. THE ROUTINE IN THE OWNERS MANUAL TO "CANCEL" THIS FEATURE DOES NOT WORK. I TRIED IT OVER 20 TIMES, AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND A LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS SHOP - IT IS JUST NOT POSSIBLE TO STOP THE AUTOMATIC UNLOCKING. I WAS PARKING MY CAR IN REVERSE AT A SPEED OF LESS THAN 5 MILES IN A DESIGNATED SPOT ADJACENT TO MY DAUGHTER'S HOUSE IN QUEBEC, CANADA. THE ENGINE ACCELERATED AND HIT A WOODEN FENCE BEHIND MY CAR. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND PUT IT INTO DRIVE TO GO FORWARD AND TO GET OUT OF THE CAR TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. THEN, THE CAR SPED AT ABOUT 100 MILES AN HOUR AND CRASHED INTO A METAL FENCE OF A KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL ACROSS THE STREET AND HIT A TREE INSIDE THE KINDERGARTEN. IN JUNE 2008, I BOUGHT A NEW 2007 TOYOTA AVALON AT A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, HARR TOYOTA AT 100 GOLD STAR BLVD, WORCESTER, MA 01606. I HAD BEEN ENJOYING DRIVING THE CAR FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS AND HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THE NEXT VEHICLE FOR MY FAMILY WILL BE ANOTHER TOYOTA AVALON. I LIKED IT SMOOTH DRIVE, NUMBER OF FEATURES, PLENTY OF SPACE AND THE MOST THE RELIABILITY. ALL MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PERFORMED AS REQUIRED AND I THOUGHT THAT AS LONG AS I TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT, I COULD DRIVE IT FOR MANY MORE YEARS. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE, AS I LIFTED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO BEGIN BRAKING, MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON, WHICH HAD ALREADY HAD THE RECALL FIX PERFORMED LAST YEAR, SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND LEAPT FORWARD RUNNING INTO THE BUILDING WALL THAT WAS ABOUT 5 FEET IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SLOT. I CHECKED FOR LEAKS UNDER THE HOOD, AND FINDING NOTHING APPEARING DAMAGED THERE I DROVE SLOWLY HOME,(ABOUT 5 MILES). TWICE I FELT A SLIGHT SHUTTER WHEN MOVING MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR TO BRAKE WHEN PREPARING TO STOP. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY; HE FELT THE SAME "SHUTTER" ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP(20 MILES). THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG, ANY EVIDENCE OF AN INCIDENT IN THE SENSORS AND I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPT. ASST. MANAGER THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. ON AUG. 6TH WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROAD IN SOUTH CAROLINA IN MY 2007 AVALON, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK. MY CAR REACHED SPEEDS OF UP TO 80 MPH. I COULD ONLY REDUCE THE SPEED TO 60 MPH BY RIDING THE BRAKES. I FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR BY FINDING A SAFE PULL-OFF AND SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN PARK. Driver seat rear driver side leg failed and cracked making seat separate from the rail and chair. Drivers seats rocks loosely. Other 3 legs functions properly but if you are rear ended then the seat would lunge forward towards steering wheel. No insurance review brought it to a welding shop to spot weld and rebrace the leg.

2011: I NOTICED THE DASH FELT SOFT, NOT STICKY EXACTLY, BUT FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, PLIABLE. 2013: WHILE DRIVING ON VACATION I REALIZED MY VISIBILITY WAS TREMENDOUSLY IMPEDED BY THE INCREDIBLY OPAQUE GLARE IN MY WINDSHIELD FROM THE DASHBOARD. IT WAS SO BAD, I REALIZED I COULD MAKE OUT THE PATTERNED IMPRINT (DESIGNED TO RESEMBLE LEATHER GRAIN). THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REDUCE THIS GLARE AS LONG AS THE SUN IS OUT. IT SERIOUSLY IMPAIRS MY ABILITY TO SEE CLEARLY, IS OBVIOUSLY DISTRACTING, AND ADDED TO MY FATIGUE ON THE TRIP. A SAFETY ISSUE IF THERE EVER WAS ONE CAUSING DRIVER IMPAIRMENT DUE TO EYE STRAIN ADDING TO DRIVER FATIGUE. 2015: I NOTICED MY FIRST CRACK IN THE DASH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE AIRBAG. WITHIN A MONTH, I FOUND ANOTHER CRACK IN THE CENTER OF THE DASH. THIS IS A GARAGE KEPT SECOND CAR, USED FOR LONG TRIP COMFORT AND SUNDAY DRIVES. 2016: CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT PROGRESSING CRACKS IN DASH. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL BUT IT HAD ENDED 2 MONTHS EARLIER. SORRY BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. 2020: I AM WAITING FOR PIECES OF MY DASH TO FALL OFF. MY LATEST CRACK FOLLOWS THE INSTRUMENT COCKPIT TOP EDGE COMPLETELY ACROSS TO THE DRIVER'S DOOR CURVE. IT JUST SPLIT APART. THIS IS MY BABIED AND PROTECTED CAR, 2007 AVALON XLS WITH 64,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE OWNED TOYOTAS SINCE THE EARLY 80'S; COROLLA, TERCEL, CELICA, CAMRY, RAV4, AVALON. NOT ONE OF THEM EVER HAD A DASH PROBLEM. IN LOOKING AT COMPLAINTS HERE THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE ABOUT THE DASH. TOYOTA SHOULD STEP UP. WHO GETS TO DECIDE THAT ONE SAFETY ISSUE IS WORTH A RECALL BUT ANOTHER ISN'T? THE GLARE IS SO BAD THAT, MORE THAN ONCE, I HAVE BEEN NERVOUS ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE BRAKE LIGHTS WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. IS IT FAIR THAT THE ONLY SAFE WAY TO OPERATE MY TOYOTA IS ON A CLOUDY DAY OR AT NIGHT? I HOPE EVENTUALLY ENOUGH COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS WILL HELP.

REAR WINDOW SHADE WENT UP AND NOW WON'T GO DOWN. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER A FEW MONTHS AGO AND THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN.WHEN THEY TOLD ME THE COST OF REPAIRING/REPLACING, I OPTED TO JUST NOT USE IT. A FEW WEEKS AGO, IT WENT UP AGAIN AND I AM NOT ABLE TO SEE ANYTHING AT NIGHT, TOOK TO THE DEALER AGAIN TO SEE IF THEY COULD PUT IT DOWN AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD I NEED TO CHANGE THE MOTOR ( ALMOST $1000) SO I WAS NOT ABLE TO DO IT. WHEN DRIVING NORTH ON I-95, MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN EVEN THOUGH I HAD NOT RELEASED PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDDLE, SO I ACCELERATED. AS SOON AS I ACCELERATED, THE CAR THEN BEGAN TO RUN EXTREMELY ROUGH, THE RPM MONITOR FLUCTUATED BACK AND FORTH, AND THE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN EVEN MORE. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO CHECK TRAFFIC AS I PREPARED TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. WHEN I STOPPED AND EXITED THE CAR, SMOKE WAS THEN BELLOWING PROFUSELY FROM THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE HOOD AND UPPER RIGHT TIRE RIM, SO MUCH SO THAT I THOUGHT THE ENGINE WAS ABOUT TO EXPLODE. IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND NOW I'M WAITING FOR MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO OPEN SO THAT I CAN FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. A SIMILAR ENERGY SURGE AND ROUGH DRIVING OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO AND MY CAR WAS TOWED IN, BUT NO PROBLEM COULD BE DETECTED. THE PROBLEM STOPPED AS MYSTERIOUSLY AS IT APPEARED, WITH NO SERIOUS REOCCURRENCES UNTIL YESTERDAY, 9/7/15. IN 2014, THE MECHANIC CHALKED THE PROBLEM UP TO POSSIBLY BAD OR CHEAP GAS.

THE RADIO STATION STARTED TO FADE IN AND OUT. THEN THE DASHBOARD CONSOLE STARTED TO SHUT DOWN AND DISPLAYED THE LETTER F (FOR FAIL). THEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A DIVIDED FOUR-LANE HIGHWAY IN THE LANE CLOSEST TO THE MEDIAN. THERE WAS NO TIME TO MOVE INTO THE RIGHT-HAND LANE. THERE WAS NEVER ANY BATTERY WARNING LIGHT OR OTHER INDICATION THAT THE BATTERY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH CHARGE TO RUN THE ENGINE OR EVEN TO POWER THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE BATTERY DIDN'T NEED REPLACING. ONLY THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED REPLACING. I HAD THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT TEST THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SENSOR WAS WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE HAD NO TROUBLE WITH THE CAR SINCE THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAS THREE DIODES AND THE FAILURE OF ONE OR TWO DIODES CAN STILL PROVIDE SUFFICIENT CHARGE. EVIDENTLY EVENTUALLY ALL THREE DIODES FAILED. I WASN'T TOLD HOW MANY FAILED. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I HAD INSUFFICIENT WARNING THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD FAILED. AS FAR AS I KNEW, THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE CONSOLE WHICH I THOUGHT WOULD NOT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE EXIT FROM THE FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. THE LACK OF A PROPER WARNING MEANS TO ME THAT I COULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED ON AN INTERSTATE EXPRESSWAY WITHOUT A MEANS FOR GETTING OUT OF A HIGH SPEED LANE. THAT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND WARRANTS AN INVESTIGATION INTO WHY TOYOTA PROVIDES NO WARNING FOR AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE.

IT WAS DAYLIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 3 PM LOCAL TIME. WE WERE ON GOOD INTERSTATE ROAD WITH MODERATE TRAFFIC AND DRY PAYMENT. WE WERE ON I-65 ABOUT 10 MILES SOUTH OF FRANKLIN, TN. MY WIFE AND I WERE THE ONLY PASSENGERS IN OUR VEHICLE AND WE WERE BOTH WEARING SEAT BELTS. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE OWNER AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. WE WERE NOT IMPAIRED AND HAD STOPPED FOR A REST BREAK AND A DRIVER CHANGE 15 MINUTES EARLIER. SHE WAS DRIVING, I WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WE WERE IN THE LEFT LANE. THE DRIVER IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT US IN THE RIGHT LANE SUDDENLY SWERVED INTO OUR LANE FOR REASONS UNKNOWN. MY RIGHT CLAVICLE WAS BROKEN IN TWO PLACES WITH THE TWO BREAKS THE WIDTH OF THE SHOULDER BELT APART WHICH IS ASSUMED TO BE THE PROXIMATE CAUSE OF THE BREAK. I WAS EVACUATED BY AMBULANCE TO THE NEAREST TRAUMA CENTER AND HAD SURGERY TWO WEEKS LATER TO REPAIR MY CLAVICLE. IT TOOK SURGERY, THE LARGEST CLAVICLE PLATE THEY MAKE, AND 10 SCREWS TO PUT MY SHOULDER BACK TOGETHER. OUR AIR BAGS DID NOT FIRE. OUR SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONERS DID NOT FIRE. THERE IS A BOAT RAMP ACROSS FROM THE PARKING LOT. I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE WHAT HIT MY CAR, I JUST DO NOT FEEL IT IS FAIR THAT USAA IS TELLING ME THE AIRBAG CAN NOT DEPLOY WITHOUT THE IGNITION BEING ON. I HAVE NOT HAD A RENTAL AND HAD TO DRIVE MY SON'S HUNTING TRUCK WHICH IS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. THEY TRIED TO SAY THERE WAS NO WAY THE CAR COULD HAVE BEEN HIT IN THE PARKING LOT. THE SHOP HAS ALMOST FINISHED THE WORK AND NOW THE TWO INVESTIGATORS WHO CAME AND INTERROGATED ME TODAY AND COMPLETELY SHOCKED ME WITH WHAT THEY WERE SAYING UPSET ME GREATLY. IF THE AIRBAG CAN NOT DEPLOY WHEN IT SHOULD AND HAS COME OUT WHEN NO ACCIDENT THEN WHY IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH MY AIRBAG DEPLOYING WHEN AN OBVIOUSLY LARGE VEHICLE HIT IT AND DID ALMOST 9000 DOLLARS IN DAMAGE? I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON ON 3/23/13 WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, AND STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT ALL CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO A LOCAL NAPA STORE AND DISCUSSED THE ERROR/S (FOUND ON MY VEHICLE DASH) WITH ONE OF THE SALES ASSISTANTS.. THE SALES ASSISTANT THEN WENT OUT TO MY CAR AND INTERFACED HIS "BLACK BOX" WITH MY AUTOMOBILE COMPUTER AND AN ERROR CODE P 2197 SHOWED UP. AS IT TURNS OUT THIS ERROR CODE IS A FAULTY OXYGEN SENSOR IN BANK TWO OF MY RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE NAPA STORE DID NOT HAVE THE OXYGEN SENSOR IN STOCK HOWEVER, AS A FAVOR TO ME THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND I REGAINED USE OF MY TRACTION CONTROL,STABILITY CONTROL, AND ELIMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH AND VERIFICATION FROM AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE IT APPEARS THAT TOYOTA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE. THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN IS T-SB-0114-08. IT APPLIES TO 2005-2007 AVALON'S AND 2007-2008 CAMRY'S. THE TSB STATES THAT THE CORRECTIVE ACTION SHOULD INCLUDE REPLACING BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLD OXYGEN SENSORS AS WELL AS THE RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND GASKETS TO THE TUNE OF APPROXIMATELY $1,800.00. THIS IS QUITE EVIDENTLY AN EMISSION ISSUE IMPACTING THE SAFETY (NO TRACTION CONTROL AND NO STABILITY CONTROL) OF PASSENGERS IN THE AFOREMENTIONED VEHICLES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION, AND MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE GEAR SELECTOR WOULD SHIFT INTO THE "DRIVE" POSITION. THE SHIFTING FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE BRAKE SAFETY SWITCH WHICH WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR FOR A PERIOD OF TWO WEEKS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION AFTER THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,300. MY CAR IS A 2007 AVALON TOYOTA AND WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED IT I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR ACCELERATING, BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER AND NO PROBLEM WAS EVER FOUND. THIS HAPPENED A MINIMUM OF 3 TIMES. THEN THE CAR SEEMED TO BE OK, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO. I DID NOT BRING IT TO THE DEALER. THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING FINE, BUT I HAVE BEEN WATCHFUL OF IT. AND IWAS TOLD JUST TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF THE MOTOR. BUT IT DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. WHILE IN FLORIDA THIS PAST WINTER I DID HAVE MY CAR SERVICED FOR ALL 3 RECALLS WITH MUCH HESITATION SINCE, AS I SAID, THE CAR SEEMED TO BE OK. IT HAS BEEN APPROX. 3 WEEKS SINCE I HAD ALL THE RECALL WORK DONE AND WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM FLA. I WENT INTO A GAS STATION TO PUT AIR IN MY TIRES AND THEN ALL [XXX] BROKE LOOSE. I WAS DRIVING SLOW LOOKING FOR THE AIR PUMP AND THE CARWENT CRAZY ACCELERATING. I YELLED, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES AND TURNED OFF THE MOTOR. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FLOOR MAT, PEDAL ETC. STEERING COLUM ADJUSTING CONTROL CONTINUES TO RELEASE. THIS CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO GO INTO THE THE DASH AREA OR UP OR DOWN. THERE IS NO CONTROL OF STEERING. BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, OIL BURST ALL OVER THE ENGINE AND DRAINED OUT OF MY CAR, SPILLED ONTO THE FLOOR OF MY GARAGE. THE OIL LIGHT OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. DEALER MADE REPAIRS AFTER KEEPING MY CAR -NOT A RECALL NOTICE BUT A NOTED PROBLEM. NO POWER WHILE PRESSING ON THE GAS. THERE IS A DELAYED REACTION RESULTING IN SLOW OR NO SPEED FOR PASSING OR JUST DRIVING (DEALER INDICATED POWER TRANS PROBLEM - NOT RECALL KEPT CAR 3+ DAYS FOR REPAIRS). I OWN A 2007 AVALON. WE RECENTLY HAD A LIGHT SNOWFALL OF TWO INCHES. UPON TURNING INTO MY DEAD-END STREET (A VERY SLIGHT DECLINE),I HEARD A BEEP. AFTER THAT,I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IT COASTED DOWN THE STREET,PAST THE LEFT-HAND TURN I NEEDED TO MAKE AND CAME TO REST ON THE ROAD. THANKFULLY,THIS WAS A SMALL DEAD-END STREET,I WAS GOING SLOWLY PRIOR TO LOSING POWER (5-10 MPH),AND THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES NEAR ME. IF NOT,I EASILY COULD'VE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. AFTER COASTING TO A STOP,I TRIED TO GO IN REVERSE (SLIGHT INCLINE) TO GET BACK TO THE TURN I NEEDED TO MAKE. HOWEVER,THE ACCELERATOR WAS UNRESPONSIVE WHEN I TRIED TO DO SO AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WAS ON. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS,I DECIDED TO GO FORWARD AND MAKE A U-TURN IN ORDER TO GET BACK TO THE STREET IN WHICH I NEEDED TO TURN. I WAS ABLE TO GO FORWARD AND TURN AROUND BUT AFTER DOING SO,AGAIN THE ACCELERATOR WAS UNRESPONSIVE (FACING VERY SLIGHTLY UPHILL NOW). AFTER TRYING THE ACCELERATOR SEVERAL TIMES,I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT BUT THE ACCELERATOR REMAINED UNRESPONSIVE. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN "DRIVE 2" AND WAS ABLE TO INCH MY WAY UP SLOWLY TO THE (NOW) RIGHT-HAND TURN I NEEDED TO TAKE. UPON MAKING THE TURN ONTO THE LEVEL STREET,POWER RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE AND I WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY HOUSE. AFTER THE INCIDENT,I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO NORTHWAY TOYOTA (PLACE OF PURCHASE) AND HAD THEM CHECK IT OUT. THEY SAID THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WAS WORKING AS IT SHOULD AND THAT THERE WAS NO WAY FOR ME TO SHUT IT OFF. I ALSO ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE TIRE TREAD THINKING THAT THIS MAY HAVE LED TO THE PROBLEM AND THAT SNOW TIRES WOULD POSSIBLY HELP THE SITUATION. THE SERVICE DEPT. TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50% TREAD LIFE LEFT IN THE TIRES (THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000 MILES ON IT) AND THAT THE TIRES I HAD SHOULD BE FINE AND SNOW TIRES WOULDN'T BE HELPFUL. I PURCHASED A 007 TOYOTA AVALON LIMITED IN 11/2006 BEFORE A MONTH PASSED I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN VISALIA, CA. I TOLD THE SHOP MANAGER THE FOOTPEDAL HAD GOTTEN STUCK AND THE CAR WAS WIDE OPEN, I STOMPED ON THE GAS PEDAL AND IT WOULDN'T COME UP, THEN I REACHED DOWN AND GRABBED IT AND PULLED IT UP, I TOLD THE SHOP MANAGER IF I HAD BEEN IN TRAFFIC OR TOWN THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURIES OR DEATH AND THIS WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND TOLD ME I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE THE CAR AND IT WAS OK. I WAS A MAD CUSTOMER, THEN I TOLD HIM THERE WAS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER, THE THING WOULDN'T IDLE DOWN COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN , AND IF YOU PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AS YOU BRAKING COMING UP TO A STOP IT WOULD ALMOST PUT YOU THROUGH THE WINDOW, AND THEY NEEDED TO FIX THIS , I GOT THE SAME ANSWER THE CAR IS OK. WELL BY THEN I REALLY MAD, BUT I ALSO KNEW THEN THEY HAD NO INTENTION OF FIXING OR ACKNOWLEDGING THERE WAS A PROBLEM, THE CAR HAS 85K MILES ON IT NOW AND I'M ON THE 3RD SET OF TIRES, 2ND SET OF BRAKES, 2ND SET OF ROTORS, AND HAD THE FRONT END ALIGNED AND NEW BOLTS INSTALLED IN THE FRONT END SO THE CAMBER COULD BE ADJUSTED, WHAT A !@#$%, I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO LEAVE DEALERSHIPS FOR RAISING !@#$% ABOUT THIS CAR, I'VE ALSO SAID THE PAINT ON THIS CAR IS JUNK TO AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE THREE YEARS OF DIESEL AND GASOLINE MECHANICS, WAS THE TOP OF MY CLASS AND SOUGHT AFTER BY MANY LARGE CORPORATIONS WHEN I GRADUATED IN 1978, AND I USED TO WORK AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AS A LINE MECHANIC WHEN I GRADUATED. I CAN ASSURE YOU TOYOTA KNEW THEY HAD PROBLEMS, AND REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING AS FAR BACK AS 2006, IF I HAD THE EXTRA MONEY OR THE TIME I WOULD HAVE SUED THEM A LONG TIME AGO, BUT THEY ARE SO BIG AS A COMPANY I PROBABLY DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE UNTIL NOW. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK AT LIST 5 TIME ARE MORE FOR MINER REPAIRS . TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL DEVICE REGULATES THE TIRES TO MAINTAIN THE SAME EXACT SPEED. WHEN DRIVING ON A RELATIVELY SMALL INCLINE AT 5 MPH IN INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE TRACTION CONTROL DEVICE SLOWS DOWN THE SPEED OF ONE TIRE TO MATCH THE SPEED OF THE SLIDING TIRE. THIS ABRUPTLY DECREASES THE OVERALL SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY IS INCREASED. THE DEALER STATED THAT SOME VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH AN OVERRIDE SYSTEM DUE TO THIS FAILURE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS NOT BUILT WITH THE OVERRIDE MECHANISM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE AND STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED EXCESSIVELY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN PULLING TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIRED. ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES WITHOUT ANY RESOLUTIONS. IN JUNE OF 2007 WE PURCHASED A NEW TOYOTA AVALON. WITHIN 2 WEEKS WE NOTICED IT PULLING INTERMITTENTLY TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT ON THE OPEN ROAD AND WHEN BRAKING. AT TIMES IT WOULD JERK WILDLY TO THE RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT OR OPPOSITE WHEN BRAKING AND IT HAS A TENDENCY TO CLIMB UPHILL AGAINST THE SLANT OF THE OPEN ROAD. THE SITUATION IS WORSE IN COLD WEATHER. WE HAD THE CAR ALIGNED NUMEROUS TIMES, ROTATED THE TIRES, CHECKED THE PRESSURES, ALL WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. WE TOOK IT TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND HAD IT SERVICED 3 TIMES (WITH TOYOTA CORP. INSTRUCTION) WITH NO RESULTS. AT TOYOTA'S SUGGESTION, WE REPLACED 2 OF THE MICHELIN TIRES THAT CAME ON THE CAR (AT OUR EXPENSE) WITH 2 HIGH QUALITY MASTERCRAFT TIRES WHICH SHOWED SIGNIFICANT TREAD WEAR AFTER ONLY 700 MILES. IT HAS WORN OUT 2 ORIGINAL TIRES AT 15,000 MILES AND THE OTHER 2 NOW NEED REPLACED AT 19,000 MILES. THE CAR WILL NOT HOLD AN ALIGNMENT. WE WERE TOLD BY TOYOTA REPS. THAT THE CAR IS REACTING TO "ROAD CROWN" CONDITIONS AND THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. TOYOTA INSTRUCTED US TO PURSUE THE PROBLEM WITH THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT. THE DETERMINATION WAS "THE CUSTOMER FAILED TO PROVE THE CONDITIONS PRESENT ARE DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN MATERIAL OR WORKMANSHIP". WE HAVE SINCE TAKEN THE CAR TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER IN OUR AREA AND THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND AGREES THAT THE SITUATION EXISTS AS WE'VE DESCRIBED. HE CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND THE REPLY AS STATED ON THE SERVICE REPORT IS "TOYOTA SAYS NO FIX FOR CONCERN NORMAL CONDITION FOR NATURE OF VEHICLE". WE HAVE DRIVEN OTHER AVALONS AND KNOW PEOPLE WHO OWN THEM AND ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. OUR FIRST CONCERN IS THAT THERE MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH OUR CAR. IN ADDITION, WE FEEL THAT FOR THE PRICE PAID WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ENJOY DRIVING IT AND NOT BE CONSTANTLY FIGHTING THE CAR. WE WOULD LIKE THE CAR TO BE COMPETENTLY REPAIRED AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR 4 TIRES. *TR
