LAST TUESDAY, DEC 6TH, 2016,I STARTED MY TOYOTA AVALON 2010 AND GOT FROM A PARKING TO HIGWAY PR 1, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, SHIFTED GEAR TO LOWEST SHIFT, STEPPED ON THE EMERGENCY BREAK AND ONLY STOPPED WHEN I DID PUT IT ON PKG AND TURNED IT OFF. IT TOOK LIKE 500 M TO STOP IT. THE FLOOR CARPET IS ONE OF THE KIND THAT KEEP SECURED TO THE CAR FLOOR AND DIDN'T INTERFERRED WITH THE GAS PEDAL. . I BOUGHT IT NEW IN NOV 2009. THE GAS PEDAL NEVER LOOK STUCK BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE ENGINE WAS BEING FED WITH A LOT OF GAS. THE CAR IS AT A TOYOTA SERVICE SHOP SINCE MORE THAN 48 HOURS BUT I STILL DON'T HAVE A DIAGNOSIS. THERE WAS NO COLISSION. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE SHOP AFTER REPORTING THE INCIDENT TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY.

THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NOTICED AN INTERMITTENT SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN HE APPROACHED A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED; HOWEVER, IF HE CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SURGE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO LUNGE FORWARD AFTER TURNING A CORNER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO OPERATE THAT WAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT SPOKEN TO THE MANUFACTURER WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 7,800. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 7,000.

2010 TOYOTA AVALON. CONSUMER EXPRESSES DISCONTENT WITH RECALLS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED TWO UNRELATED RECALLS ARE ON THE SAME RECALL NOTICE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT THE BRAKE/THROTTLE REPROGRAMMING BE DONE, BUT HE DOES NOT WANT THE PEDAL MODIFICATION DONE AS HE BELIEVED IT WOULD CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE. HE ENGAGED THE BRAKES AND THE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESET THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED TO SPEEDS OF 95 MPH. HE WAS ABLE TO DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP THE ACCELERATION. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE DEALER INSPECT THE VEHICLE FOR THE FAILURE. WHEN VEHICLE WAS NEW STEERING WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS. IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT IT WAS NOT RIGHT. CALLED TOYOTA 1800 NUMBER IS WAS QUICKLY DISMISSED BY HELP LINE. FOUR YEARS LATER NEEDED RACK AND PINION FAILED WITH 110 K ON ODOMETER. WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 100K. I GOT MY USE OUT AND I FIXED THE STEERING. MY ISSUE IS WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS ON THE INTERNET I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HOW MANY OTHERS WHO HAD ISSUES AND A LOT LESS MILES. 2010 TOYOTA AVALON WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP (VISALIA TOYOTA) FOR HI-BEAM BULBS EXPLODING WHEN TURNED ON. DEALER REPLACED BULBS BUT THIS HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE REPAIR PER THE LAST VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP WILL REQUIRE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE WHOLE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY DUE TO A RECURRING PROBLEM TOYOTA HAS HAD WITH THIS LIGHTING SYSTEM. THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM YET NOW STATE THAT MY CAR IS OVER THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENT TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED OF A PROBLEM BY TOYOTA OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY BY THE MANUFACTURER OR THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA AVALON TOURING MODEL. SINCE LATE JUNE OF 2010 THROUGH OCTOBER OF 2010 THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON 3 CONSECUTIVE LONG TRIPS. THE FIRST TRIP WAS APPROXIMATELY 3600 MILES, THE SECOND TRIP WAS APPROXIMATELY 1200 MILES AND THE LAST TRIP WAS 1800 MILES. ALL OF THESE TRIPS THE HEAD LAMP SYSTEM WAS SET ON AUTO. THE BRIGHT LIGHTS WERE USED ON OCCASION WHEN ON DARK ROADS OR DURING THE DAY TO SIGNAL TO TRUCKS OR OTHER DRIVERS THAT IT WAS SAFE TO PULL IN ON A PASSING SITUATION. ON THE LAST TRIP, DURING THE NIGHT THE BRIGHTS WORKED PERFECTLY. ON A DAY TRIP IN A CARAVAN, I HAD TO SIGNAL THE VEHICLES AHEAD OF ME TO SLOW DOWN AS THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME WERE STOPPED. I DID THIS BY REPEATEDLY FLASHING THE HIGH BEAMS. THAT NIGHT BOTH HIGH BEAMS DID NOT WORK EVEN THOUGH THE BLUE INDICATOR ON THE DASH SAYS THEY ARE ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF IT WAS A RELAY OR OTHER ITEM AS I WOULDN'T EXPECT BOTH HIGH BEAMS TO BURN OUT AT THE SAME TIME. THE DEALER SAID THEY WERE BOTH BURNT OUT AND WANTED CLOSE TO $225 TO CHANGE THEM OUT. I ELECTED TO DO THE WORK MYSELF AND HAVE ORDERED THE PARTS FROM MY AUTO PARTS STORE. BEFORE THE BULBS CAME IN THE MAIN LIGHTS HAVE STARTED ACTING UP. THE RIGHT SIDE MAIN BEAM WENT OUT TEMPORARILY 2 NIGHTS AGO. I RESET THE SYSTEM AND IT STARTED WORKING. LAST NIGHT I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND WAITED FOR MY PASSENGER TO JOIN ME. THE LIGHTS REMAINED ON. I PULLED OUT AND STARTED FORWARD TO HEAR A CLICK AND BOTH FRONT BEAMS WENT OUT. THE GREEN LIGHT FOR THE HEADLAMP SYSTEM WAS STILL ON. I RESET THE SYSTEM AND THEY NOW WORK. I HAVE NOW PICKED UP THE BRIGHT BEAM BULBS AND WILL INSTALL THEM TONIGHT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, A LARGE DEER COLLIDED HEAD ON INTO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IMPACT KNOCKED THE ENGINE BLOCK OUT OF PLACE AND PUSHED IT BACKWARDS INTO THE WINDSHIELD AREA. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE BACK, A CONCUSSION, WHIPLASH, RIGHT KNEE, LEFT ARM AND WRIST. THE PASSENGER ALSO EXPERIENCED INJURIES TO THE BACK, RIGHT SHOULDER, WHIPLASH, AND A CONCUSSION. BOTH OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION AND CURRENTLY STILL UNDERGOING MEDICAL EXAMS FOR THE INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. LOUISBURGE SHERRIFF'S DEPARTMENT WAS PRESENT, BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

REAR WINDOW SHADE WOULD NOT RETRACT. DRIVING AT NIGHT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT REAR WINDOW DUE TO SHADE BEING STUCK IN RAISED POSITION. TOYOTA WANTED $1,500 REPAIR IT, BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND PER THEIR EMPLOYEE, IT HAD BEEN BACK ORDERED THREE TIMES. THIS INDICATED TO HIM A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM.

ON OUR 2010 TOYOTA AVALON WE HAVE HAD ALL THE LIGHTS ON OUR DASH GO OUT FOR A PERIOD OF 10 SECONDS OR SO ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHILE WE WERE APPLYING THE BRAKES AND MAKING A TURN. THE DASH LIGHTS ON ALL OUR GAUGES GO OUT AND COME BACK ON THERE OWN. MY NEW (PURCHASED SEPT. 2009) 2010 TOYOTA AVALON WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A VEHICLE DEFECT (THIS MODEL IS UNDER A RECALL BY TOYOTA). I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP FOR A VEHICLE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY. AFTER THE OTHER VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, I PROCEEDED TO GO AROUND THE OTHER VEHICLE (WHICH REMAINED STATIONARY). AS SOON AS I TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR, MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED RAPIDLY. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL IMMEDIATELY BUT I COULD STILL HEAR THE ENGINE REVVING AT HIGH SPEED. I HAVE A PROBLEM THAT I AM AFRAID COULD CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. JUST A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY 2010 TOYOTA AVALON I STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES IT KIND OF STALLS. USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN I AM TURNING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, SUCH AS TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT. IT IS AS THOUGH MY CAR STALLS FOR A MOMENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THE HEAD RESTRAINTS ON BOTH FRONT SEATS WERE SEVERELY TILTED FORWARD MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE SEAT OCCUPANTS TO SIT ALL THE WAY BACK IN THE SEATS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HEAD RESTRAINTS WERE OPERATING AS NORMAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THE HEAD RESTRAINTS WERE OPERATING IN THE MANNER IN WHICH THEY WERE DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,300.

1. ON THREE OCCASIONS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS JAMMED OPEN BY FACTORY CLOTH FLOOR MAT. REMOVED THE MAT. 2. ON MULTIPLE RECENT OCCASIONS WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED AND PLACED IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE EVEN IF THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. CAR SEEMS AS IF THE WHEELS ARE CHOCKED. THEN WHEN CAR DOES MOVE IT ACCELERATE QUICKLY IN REVERSE. HAVE DISCOVERED WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE TRACTION CONTROL APPEARS WHEN THE CAR IS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND STAYS LIT FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, THEN THE LIGHT GOES OUT AND THE CAR SIMULTANEOUSLY FEELS AS IF THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN RELEASED EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. IT IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND HOW A DRIVER COULD PRESS THE ACCELERATOR TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MOVE AND THEN HAVE THE CAR SHOOT BACKWARDS CAUSING DAMAGE OR INJURY. 3. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE WEARING BOOTS I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL ONLY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSTEAD OF DECELERATING, ACCELERATE VERY QUICKLY. THE REACTION EACH TIME WAS TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL EVEN HARDER RESULTING ONLY IN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATING EVEN HARDER. ON ONE OF THOSE OCCASIONS IT OCCURRED BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND ALTHOUGH I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE QUICKLY IT NONETHELESS ACCELERATED SEVERAL FEET INTO THE MIDDLE OF A STREET. IT IS CLEAR THAT THESE THREE INCIDENTS OCCURRED BECAUSE OF THE PROXIMITY OF THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS AND INADVERTENTLY BUT SIMULTANEOUSLY DEPRESSING BOTH. I BELIEVE THE SITUATION IS AGGRAVATED BY THE FACT WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL YOU CANNOT FEEL THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL UNDER YOUR FOOT AND HAVE NO IDEA YOU ARE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL YOU GO THROUGH THE MENTAL PROCESS OF TRYING TO DETERMINE WHY THE HARDER YOU DEPRESS THE BRAKE THE FASTER THE CAR GOES.
