I was driving my 2006 Toyota Camry on a level residential road at 35 mph and stopped at a red light. Upon turning left, the car unexpectedly accelerated at a high speed. I stepped on the brakes but the car did not stop nor slow. I was driving towards a very busy intersection. I tried to shift the gear to park, but the car was still running out of control. I turned left onto a side street in order to avoid the intersection. I was going too fast and jumped the curb, crashed into a Toyota Tundra truck parked on the driveway, and ricocheted into the retaining wall of the neighboring property. I was wearing my set belt, the airbag deployed and hit my chest. There were long tire marks on the street and a witness reported the squealing sound of brakes. Paramedics and police arrived immediately. My blood pressure was checked and I was advised to go to the ER. In the hospital, I was checked for reflexes, stroke and heart problems and got a X-ray of my chest. Everything was ok and I was sent home after 5 hours, although my chest was severely bruised and painful for about 2 weeks. It took me a month to drive again. I kept thinking about what caused the accident. I am certain that mine was a case of sudden unintended acceleration. While there were over 7 million Toyota cars subject to unintended acceleration recalls from 2005-2012, my 2006 Toyota Camry was not included in these recalls.

ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4TH (2019) I WAS WAITING IN LINE AT A RED LIGHT (ON STATE STREET AT THE INTERSECTION WITH HAYWOOD ROAD IN ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA). SUDDENLY MY TOYOTA 2006 LURCHED FORWARD AND BANGED INTO THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. I STOMPED ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR STOPPED, THEN JUMPED FORWARD AGAIN AND BANGED THE CAR AHEAD OF ME AGAIN. MY HUSBAND, SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THREW THE GEAR SHIFT INTO 'PARK' AND OUR CAR STOPPED. AS I WAS JUST WAITING IN LINE AT THE LIGHT WHEN THE CAR SPONTANEOUSLY SURGED FORWARD, WE FEEL THIS WAS A CASE OF 'TOYOTA SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION.' OUR INSURER HAS APPRAISED THE DAMAGE TO CAR AT JUST BELOW $3000. WE NO LONGER CONSIDER THIS CAR SAFE TO DRIVE. OUR INSURER DID NOT REQUIRE A POLICE REPORT. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES, SO POLICE WERE NOT CALLED.

THE CONTACT RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND DEPRESSED IT HARDER, IN WHICH THE VEHICLE RESPONDED. LATER THE SAME DAY, THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

CAR WAS PLACED IN REVERSE WHILE STOPPED TO PARALLEL PARK ALONG CURB WITH STEERING WHEEL TURNED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT. CAR ACCELERATOR WENT FULL THROTTLE WITH VERY LITTLE DRIVER INPUT. DRIVER HARD PRESSED THE BRAKE TO STOP, SKIDS MARKS OF REAR TIRES CONFIRM, CAR KEPT ACCELERATING, DRIVER TURNED TO AVOID A PARKED VEHICLE CAUSING THE CAR TO AGGRESSIVELY SLIDE SIDEWAYS UP AND OVER THE CURB WHILE STILL ACCELERATING. DRIVER SLAPPED THE SHIFTER INTO NEUTRAL AND STRAIGHTENED THE WHEEL. THE CAR STRAIGHTENED OUT AND THE MOMENTUM CARRIED IT FORWARD (RATHER THAN REVERSE FROM THE UNINTENDED J TURN) COLLIDING INTO A HOUSE. CAR MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 71,000. NO FLOOR MATS IN FLOORBOARD, NO OTHER DEBRIS. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. NO INJURIES. FIRST REPORTED INCIDENT OF ACCELERATOR (SPEED CONTROL) MALFUNCTION.

ON MARCH 26,2020 I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED, STICKY, AND MELTED THROUGHOUT. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED PRIORITY TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD (JOHN SERVICE MANAGER) THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT DUE TO THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION-ZE6 WHICH ENDED MAY 31, 2017. ALSO, I HAD OWNED THE CAR FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS. HE WOULD REPLACE IT AT MY COST OF APPROX. $2200 BUT HE WOULD PROVIDE AN EXACT AMOUNT WHEN I DECIDED TO FIX IT. THEN I EXPLORED THE INTERNET TO SEE THE SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM. IT CAN LEAD TO VISIBILITY PROBLEMS (GLARE) AND PROBLEMS WITH THE DASHBOARD AIRBAGS. YESTERDAY, APRIL 7, 2020 I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER 1-888-2709371 AND SPOKE TO RANDALL WHO REPEATED WHAT JOHN HAD SAID, BUT ADDED THAT MY CAR WAS OLD AND NOT WORTH MUCH AND I HAD GOTTEN MY MONIES WORTH OUT OF IT. I ASKED WHO I COULD CALL NEXT AND HE SAID HE WAS THE END OF THE LINE. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE #[XXX] BUT CAN'T SEE TO READ IT FOR MYSELF. THEY ARE SELLING LEMONS, AND RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSE ! THE NHTSA SHOULD WAKE UP FOR ONCE AND GET TOYOTA FLAGGED. THEY (THE JAPANESE COMPANIES, INCLUDING TAKATA, - AND GOD KNOWS WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE SO-CALLED ZERO DEFECT JAPANESE MOTTO) ARE RAKING IT IN AND TAKING THE CUSTOMERS FOR A RIDE. I JUST BOUGHT A USED "06 TOYOTA CAMRY FOR MY DAUGHTER TO COMMUTE TO COLLEGE. WE ARE EXPERIENCING STEERING WHEEL "CLUNKING' AND NOISES BEHIND THE STEERING COLUMN AND UNDER THE CAR WHEN WE MAKE TURNS AND JUST DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED AN INSPECTION ON THE CAR. HE SAID THAT THIS MAKE AND YEAR OF THE CAMRY ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THIS PROBLEM. TRUE, I SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE HOMEWORK. I WAS GAUGING MY DECISION ON MY PREVIOUS OWNERSHIP OF A CAMRY I HAD IN THE 90'S. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT CAR. I JUST WENT TO A WEBSITE, CARCOMPLAINTS.COM, AND SEEN ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES ABOUT THIS STEERING DEFECT, SOME TO THE POINT OF THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING! OVER AND OVER I SEEN THESE CUSTOMERS TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER OR CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND THEY WERE AFFORDED NO ASSISTANCE. THEY WERE TOLD THEY SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK BEFORE 36, 000 MILES, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM THAT THEY COULD FIND, JUST REAL COWARDLY BEHAVIOR FROM THE PEOPLE WHO COULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THIS PERSISTENT SAFETY ISSUE! The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, he depressed the brake pedal however, the brake pedal felt spongy. The contact depressed the brake pedal forcefully to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact parked on the side of the road to inspect the vehicle but was unable to locate the cause of the failure. The contact was able to continue driving at a slower speed to his residence. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and had the brake master cylinder and brake booster replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact called an unknown local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THEY FAILED. SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL GASOLINE STATION WHERE THE BRAKES BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY DEFECTS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL AND SHE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE IS AN APPARENT ENGINEERING DESIGN DEFECT OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON THE 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY WHEN A MINOR IMPACT WITH A DEER COMPLETELY WIPES OUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM. AFTER IMPACT WITH THE DEER, USE OF THE BRAKE SENT THE CAR INTO AN UNCONTROLLABLE SIDEWAYS SLIDE. UTILIZING EVERY DEFENSIVE DRIVING TECHNIQUE I COULD, I RECOVERED THE CAR TO A FORWARD PATH ONLY TO TOUCH THE BRAKE AGAIN AND GO BACK INTO THE SIDEWAYS SLIDE. AFTER THREE FAILED ATTEMPTS TO STOP THE CAR THE FOURTH BRAKE ATTEMPT SENT THE CAR INTO A SPIN OUT AND SLUNG IT INTO THE DITCH. THE DAMAGE FROM THIS IMPACT TOTALED THE CAR AND WAS A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE FOR THE DRIVER. IT APPEARS THAT THE WIRING FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM IS IN THE WHEEL WELLS AND VULNERABLE TO MAJOR DAMAGE WITH A MINOR IMPACT. A BETTER PROTECTION OF THE WIRING NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE IMPACT WITH THE DEER MUST HAVE SHORTED THE WIRING TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THE DAY AFTER THE ACCIDENT, WHEN I WENT TO REMOVE MY BELONGINGS FROM THE VEHICLE, IT WAS EXTREMELY HOT TO THE TOUCH BOTH INSIDE AND OUT EVEN THOUGH THE TEMP WAS IN THE 30'S. I WAS AFRAID IT WAS GOING TO GO UP IN FLAMES AT ANY MOMENT. WE HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO PREVENT THAT FROM HAPPENING. PLEASE UTILIZE THIS INFORMATION TO HELP AVOID THIS SITUATION IN THE FUTURE. HAD THERE BEEN ANY OTHER VEHICULAR TRAFFIC THAT NIGHT I PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED THAT INCIDENT AND WITH OUT SOME PRIOR SNOW AND ICE DRIVING EXPERIENCE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE TREES WITH THE FIRST SLIDE. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHEN DRIVING OVER SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD, SPEEDBUMPS, POTHOLES, ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS OVER 45-55 MPH, THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL THAT SOUNDS LIKE METAL-ON-METAL SUCH AS SOMETHING GRINDING ON THE ROTOR, ALMOST LIKE THE WHEEL IS COMING OFF. WHEN THIS SOUND OCCURS, THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK - WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, YOU GET A GRINDING NOISE SUCH AS THE NOISE YOU WOULD GET WHEN YOUR BRAKES ARE SO LOW THAT IT BEGINS GRINDING ON THE ROTOR. TECH WOULD THINK THIS COULD CAUSE A DTC TO SET IF NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY BUT THERE WERE NO CODES. AT RANDOM MOMENTS, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. CANNOT GET ANSWERS. OCCURS MOST OFTEN AFTER IDLING AT A LIGHT THEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE IT WON'T MOVE. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the ABS monitors the rotation of the tires. The contact was informed that a tire was losing air and was rotating slower than the other tires. The dealer recommended changing the tires. The tires were replaced but the failure recurred. I HAVE PROPERLY MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT. TUESDAY I HEADED TO WORK AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE GAS STATION TO CHECK IT. I HAD NO OIL IN MY CAR. I JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE LESS THAN TWO WEEKS PRIOR. I THE PROCEEDED TO PUT THREE QUARTS IN MY CAR. THE OIL LIGHT WENT OUT. I TOOK IT BACK TO TEXAS OIL LATER THAT DAY AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY CHECKED IT AND TOLD ME THE OIL WAS FULL FOR THE MOMENT. I WAS TOLD TO COME BACK AND HAVE IT CHECK THE FOLLOWING DAY. I COULDN'T GET THERE ON WEDS, I WENT THURSDAY. THE CAR WAS LOW TWO QUARTS OF OIL. THEY CHECKED THE CAR BOTH TIMES FOR AN OIL LEAK. NO LEAK. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AT FIRESTONE AND HE CHECKED THE OIL, FILLED IT UP AND TOLD ME TO COME BACK THE NEXT DAY AND HE WOULD CHECK IT OUT REALLY GOOD. I WENT TODAY AND I HAD ALMOST NO OIL. ONE QUART. HE CHECKED THE CAR. NO OIL LEAKS. HE SAID THE CAR LOOKED REALLY GOOD FOR ITS AGE. THERE WERE NO LEAKS AND NO EXPLANATION FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION. HE TOLD ME IT NEEDED AN ENGINE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY THE ENGINE COULD JUST SHUT DOWN ON ME. THAT SCARED ME. I WORK IN HOME HEALTH. I DRIVE MY CAR TO CLIENT'S HOMES. MY CAR WAS TESTED AND QUALIFIED FOR AN ENGINE INTERNAL REBUILD DUE TO EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. IT'S BEEN A YEAR AND THE PARTS STILL HAVE NOT BEEN DELIVERED TO THE DEALER. MEANWHILE I HAVE TO FILL UP THE OIL 3+ TIMES IN-BETWEEN EVERY OIL CHANGE WHICH IS COSTING ME THE EQUIVALENT OF AN ADDITIONAL OIL CHANGE FOR EVERY OIL CHANGE (APPROXIMATELY $30 EXTRA EVERY OIL CHANGE).

2006 TOYOTA CAMRY 80K MILES, HAD COOLANT LEAKING INTO ENGINE CYLINDERS CAUSED BY STRIPPED HEAD GASKET BOLTS. RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND A DESIGN FLAW FOR THE 2AZ-FE ENGINE WHICH OCCUR TO MANY 2002 - 2006 CAMRY. TOYOTA DEALER WANTED OVER $3,500 TO FIX IT.. TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL AND REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY.

I WAS PULLING SLOWLY INTO A PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF AN OFFICE BUILDING. ON THE SECOND MAJOR INCIDENT, AFTER STOPPING THE CAR AND ALLOWING ANOTHER CAR TO PASS ON THE SAME ROAD IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, SHE MADE A LEFT TURN AND THE CAR ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY AND HIT A BIG TREE STANDING AT AN ELEVATED PART OF THE ROAD. BY LOOKING AT THE SCENE ANYBODY CAN COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT SOME KIND OF MALFUNCTIONING OF THE ACCELERATION MECHANISM HAS HAPPENED. IN BOTH OF THESE MAJOR ACCIDENTS, NONE OF THE AIR-BAGS DEPLOYED. THE SAME CAR HAD ANOTHER SIMILAR INCIDENT BUT NO PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED AND THEREFORE, THAT INCIDENT WAS NOT REPORTED TO POLICE BUT A CO-WORKER DROVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE RETAINING POND. 2006 CAMRY....WHILE INCHING MY CAR FORWARD IN MY DRIVEWAY TO POSITION THE CAR TO BACK IT UP, I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE AND MOVING AT A SPEED OF NO MORE THAN 2-3 MPH. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON, WHICH SAVED ME FROM SMACKING MY FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. MY HEAD JERKED FORWARD AND I HAD A TREMENDOUS HEADACHE AFTERWARDS WITH PAIN IN MY NECK. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND MY HUSBAND REACHED IN THE WINDOW AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I STARTED IT UP AGAIN, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND I CAREFULLY MOVED IT AWAY FROM THE TREE. THE FORCE WITH WHICH I HIT THE TREE PUSHED IN MY FRONT END AND ALSO DID SOME DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD SINCE THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE INSURANCE ADJUSTOR TO CHECK THIS OUT. HE DID SAY THAT IF HE DOESN'T EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM, HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE BY TOYOTA. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. SHE STATED WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES WOULD HESITATE TO ENGAGE AND WOULD FEEL SPONGY CAUSING HER TO USE EXTREME FORCE WHEN BRAKING. THIS WOULD OCCUR FREQUENTLY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT ENGAGING AS DESIGNED. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY BUT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO INVESTIGATE THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITHIN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE. SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY DECREASED IN SPEED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL WERE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. I STILL COULD NOT FIGURED IT OUT WHY THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED SINCE I DRIVE CAREFULLY. NO OTHER ACCIDENT ON THE RECORD SINCE I STARTED DRIVING FROM 2003. IT HAPPENED AROUND 9AM ON MY DAILY ROUTE TO WORKPLACE. RECENTLY I HEARD ABOUT TOYOTA RECALLS FOR CAMRY 2007 TO 2010. BUT I AM NOT SURE IF MY CAR ALSO HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM. ONCE I VISITED TO SERVICE CENTER AFTER THE INCIDENT FOR REGULAR SERVICE THEN THEY MENTIONED THAT MY CAR'S BRAKE & GAS PEDALS NEED CLEAN-UP OR I HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED. SINCE THEY TOLD LITTLE HIGHER AMOUNT I TOLD NO FOR REPAIR. I AM NOT SURE IF MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2006 TOO HAVE THE PROBLEMS DESCRIBED IN RECALL. I BOUGHT MY 2006 CAMRY IN OCTOBER 2005 AND HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO CLAREMONT TOYOTA, THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR, OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND BRAKING PROBLEM SINCE ABOUT 2006. IT'S AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT I HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR. MY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPS TO THE FLOOR AND THEN THE CAR ACCELERATES FORWARD AND THAT THE CAR ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. THE SERVICE WRITERS HAVE DISMISSED MY COMPLAINTS AND GIVEN MANY EXCUSES SUCH AS: WHEN I LEFT THE CAR THERE TO HAVE THEM CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM THEY SAID THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPEATED SO THE CAR WAS FINE, ANOTHER TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THE NEW CARS HAVE ABS BRAKES THAT DROP DOWN TO THE FLOOR, AND AT A DIFFERENT TIME THEY SAID THAT WITH THESE NEW CARS THE REAR BRAKES HAD TO BE ADJUSTED AT EVERY OIL CHANGE AND ETC. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A TREE THEN SURGED FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED BACK INTO THE PARKING AREA WITH TREES THAT I HAD REVERSED OUT OF. MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE BUT THE VEHICLES ENGINE REVVED AND SURGED BACK THROUGH THE TREES. IMPACT WITH TREE ON LEFT DRIVERS SIDE FIRST THEN VEHICLE SLAMMED INTO TREE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THERE IS NO TIME TO REACT TO THIS TYPE OF DEADLY SPEED ACCELERATION. WHEN MY VEHICLE DID COME TO A STOP IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WAS $4,300, MY INSURANCE DOUBLED AND I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AND THAT I DIDN'T KILL SOMEONE IN THE PARKING LOT. TOYOTA HAS NO RECALL FOR 2006 CAMRY BUT I HAVE COUNTED 50 TO 60 PLUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ALONE UNDER BRAKES, IGNITION, ACCELERATION ETC. TOYOTA SAYS I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR WHICH IS TOTALLY UNFAIR. MY VEHICLE HAS DEPRECIATED QUICKLY IN VALUE BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT, THE ACCIDENT, AND USED PARTS BEING USED IN THE ACCIDENT REPAIR. AFTER 5 MINUTES SHE SAID SHE DID NOT KNOW THE ANSWER TO MY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CONTROL ARM. DO NOT BUY ANY TOYOTA CAR WITHOUT FIRST PERSONALLY INSPECTING THE CONDITION OF BOTH CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS TOGETHER WITH THE MECHANIC HOLDING A FLASHLIGHT AND MIRROR, AT EVERY OIL CHANGE. ON SUNDAY, APRIL 7TH, I WAS TRAVELING WESTBOUND ON THE SOUTHERN STATE PARKWAY AT EXACTLY FIFTY-FIVE MPH AND EXITED AT EXIT 17N. THE EXIT RAMP THERE IS SLOPED UPHILL AND PARALLELS TAYLOR ROAD. THERE IS A STOP SIGN AT THE END OF THAT RAMP AT HEMPSTEAD AVENUE. JUST AS I WAS COMING TO THE END OF THAT RAMP AT VERY SLOW SPEED AND ALMOST TO THAT SIGN, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SPED UP WITH EXTREME ACCELERATION AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD. I SLAMMED MY FOOT ONTO THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH KEPT THE CAR FROM MOVING FURTHER FORWARD AND THEN BEFORE I COULD DO ANYTHING ELSE, THE PHENOMENON ENDED AND THE ENGINE RETURNED TO ITS NORMAL IDLING SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 700 RPM ON THE DASHBOARD TACHOMETER. I DROVE HOME AND PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, MONDAY APRIL 8TH, I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THAT DAY TO BRING THE CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALER. AS I WAS PREPARING FOR THAT, I STARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING SEEMED NORMAL. I PUT IT INTO REVERSE IN ORDER TO BACK OUT WHEN THE ENGINE AGAIN SUDDENLY SPED UP TO EXTREME ACCELERATION. AGAIN, I SLAMMED MY FOOT ONTO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THIS TIME I PUT THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK WHICH KEPT THE CAR FROM MOVING FURTHER. Driver door has remained in lock position when I tried to exit the car. Could NOT manually move the inside door lock and had to climb over the middle console to exit the car. I see this as a safety issue, as exiting the car slowly during an emergency could have caused an emergency. Also, for persons who are older or have physical mobility issues, climbing over console could be impossible. In addition to this issue, and possible related, is the fact the driver door actuator does not function properly. Hence, when trying to use my remote key fob, driver door will not unlock. This is potential for an emergency; for example, if trying to quickly get into car in a parking lot where there can be potential thieves, I am delayed getting safely into my car, since I have to use a key to unlock driver door. If I go around to passenger door, I would have to climb over console to get to driver seat. I am [XXX]. This is not ideal. I am original owner of the car. This issue has sporadically been a problem for several yrs. I took the car to 2 repair shops in Ca. Neither could determine how to make the repair after having to remove inside door panel. I have read there are THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS about this over the yrs., and Toyota has refused to make a recall campaign. I hope you can help initiate one. Current average estimate to try to repair this is $750. , and that does not include the lock that sometimes sticks in closed position. MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE UNSAFE POWER DOOR LOCK MECHANISM USED ON THE 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE (AND COUNTLESS OTHER VEHICLES THEY PRODUCE) I AM NOW ON MY FIFTH FAILURE. EVERY SINGLE POWER DOOR LOCK FAILED AND NOW IT'S STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD! DRIVING HOME FROM WORK I HIT A LARGE DEER, APPROXIMATELY 200 POUNDS, AT 45 MPH, DIRECT FRONT END CONTACT, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE WHOLE FRONT HOOD, GRILLE, BOTH FRONT FENDERS, RADIATOR, HEADLIGHTS, AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, NO INJURY TO ME. RECEIVED MY CAR FROM THE BODY SHOP OCTOBER 25TH AND EVERYTHING LOOKED GREAT. AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 800 MILES NOTICED A LITTLE BODY MISALIGNMENT AND ON THE 18TH OF OCTOBER I DROVE TO THE BODY SHOP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE ALIGNMENT PROBLEM AND CHECK THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. THEY ARE WORKING ON THE BODY ISSUE, WHICH I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT, HOWEVER, AFTER DOING A SCAN OF THE CAR SYSTEMS, WITH THE HAND HELD SCANNER, THE AIR BAG WARNING IS NOT A SENSOR ISSUE DUE TO THE COLLISION WITH THE DEER, BUT IT IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR/WIRING WHICH SHOULD BE A TOYOTA ISSUE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE, BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN A RE-CALL FROM TOYOTA, THE FIX FOR THIS SITUATION IS TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SEAT AT A COST OF ABOUT $3400.00. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS WHY DID THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOY AND NOW IS THE TOTAL AIR BAG SYSTEM NOT FUNCTIONING? *TR

TRAVELING EAST ON INTERSTATE 10 WEST OF TONOPAH, AZ , FELT VIBRATION AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SUFFERED A PARTIAL TREAD SEPARATION. TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH SPARE AND TRIP CONTINUED FOR ANOTHER 30 MILES WHEN THE LEFT FRONT TIRE SUFFERED A COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION CAUSING NEARLY $1600 DOLLARS DAMAGE IN AND AROUND THE WHEEL WELL. TIRES WERE FIRESTONE FR380 P215/60R16 WITH LESS THAN 25,000 MILES. SUBSEQUENT CHECK OF TIRES INDICATED THAT THE TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A TWO-MINUTE DELAY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, HE NOTICED FLUID LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE BOOT WAS LEAKING AND THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,794. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,276.

2006 SOLARA WAS DRIVEN BY MY SON WHO WAS FOUND DEAD IN A CANAL ON 1/28/08 BY A PASSERBY. THE CAR HAD THE TENDENCY TO HAVE THE FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE RIDE UP, WHICH I WAS USED TO AS IT WAS MY CAR. THEREFORE, I SUSPECT THE FLOOR MAT RODE UP ONTO ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSING CAR TO BE UNABLE TO STOP WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS FOUND UPSIDE DOWN WITH THE CAR IN PARK WITH THE KEYS REMOVED IN 4' OF WATER WITH MY ONLY CHILD LAYING FACE DOWN IN THE WATER DEAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. IN ADDITION, SHE NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHT COVER APPEARED TO BE EXTREMELY FOGGY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CLEAN THE HEADLIGHT COVER WITH A SPECIAL CHEMICAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.

I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA, SLE, 6 CYL. ENG., AUTOMATIC, SUNROOF. I WAS DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT THE MALL, SLOWING DOWN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AS I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE TO PARK, IT WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND MY ENGINE SURGED LOUDLY, HITTING THE PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF ME ABOUT 9-12 FEET OUT OF IT'S SPACE. I FRANTICALLY TURNED MY STEERING WHEEL TO MY LEFT, JUMPED A CURB, WENT THROUGH A FEW BUSHES AND HIT A TREE WHICH STOPPED MY CAR. I TURNED MY KEY OFF, PLACED IT IN PARK AND THREW MY KEYS ON TO THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS CAR CAUSED THE CRASH. I HAVE NEVER FELT ANYTHING SO STRANGE AS I COULD NOT STOP THIS CAR WITH THE BRAKE. IT HAPPENED IN ONLY ABOUT 4 SECONDS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER, AS I DIDN'T WANT TO DRIVE IT. I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL IT IS FIXED BY TOYOTA. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH MY CAR EXCEPT SOME HESITATION IN MOVING FAST INTO TRAFFIC. TOYOTA SENT AN INSPECTOR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK OUT THE CAR ON 8/17/10. I CALLED TO SEE WHAT THE RESULTS WERE AND THEY SENT A MESSAGE BY A SECRETARY THAT NOTHING WAS ABNORMAL AND IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE. I WILL NOT ALLOW MY INSURANCE TO PAY FOR THE PHYSICAL DAMAGE UNTIL TOYOTA FIXES THE BRAKE/ACCELERATION PROBLEM. I AM LUCKY THAT I, OR SOMEONE ELSE DIDN'T GET KILLED OR HURT. NEXT TIME IT COULD BE DIFFERENT. THIS CRASH WAS NOT MY FAULT! IF ALL THE OTHER CARS HAD THESE PROBLEMS, WHY DO THEY FEEL THE SOLARA ISN'T INCLUDED? MAYBE, THIS IS THE FIRST OF MANY SOLARA'S. I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA CAMERY. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES EVERY SINCE I GOT THE CAR. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DON'T WORK THE WAY THAT THEY SHOULD. WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE BRAKE HARD LIKE YOU WOULD IN AN EMERGENCY THE CAR WILL NOT STOP AT ALL ITS AS IF THE BRAKES GO COMPLETELY OUT. BUT IF YOU PRESS THEM SLOWLY THEY WORK FINE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE INCIDENTS INVOLVING THE FLOOR MATS WITH THEIR TOYOTA CAMRY VEHICLES. I PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY (USED) IN JANUARY OF 2007. WHEN I EXPLAINED TO THE REPRESENTATIVE AT TOYOTA THAT MY FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE MOVES INVOLUNTARILY UNDER BOTH THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL, HE ASKED ME IF I HAD THE MAT ANCHORED CORRECTLY. I EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS NO ANCHOR IN THE CARPETING OR A HOLE WHERE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN ONE. I FURTHER ADVISED THERE WAS NO HOLE IN THE MAT FOR AN ANCHOR. THE REP SOUNDED SURPRISED AT THIS AND TOOK DOWN MY INFORMATION. THE REP TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD HEAR BACK FROM TOYOTA AND TO REMOVE MY MATS AT THIS TIME DUE TO THE RECENT SAFETY ISSUES. I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR AS IT ENTERED THE HIGHWAY AND THUS I REARENDED A SEMI WHO NEVER EVEN KNEW THAT I HIT HIM. YET, GREATER THAN 2000.00 OF DAMAGE HAPPENED TO MY AUTO. I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA CAMERY V6 AND IT HAS MAJOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T PROPERLY CHANGE GEARS. THE CAR DRIVES SLOWER THAN A CAR WITH A V4 ENGINE. IT SEEMS TO STALL FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE GEARS. I'VE TAKEN IT THE DEALER 4 TIMES. CURRENTLY THIS CAR ONLY HAS 12,000 MILES AND THE DEALER CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION ONCE. TL*- THE CONTACT NOTICED A RATTLE AND HEARD SQUEAKY NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DASH AND CENTER CONSOLE OF THE 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY ON THE DAY OF PURCHASE. THE VEHICLE WILL DECELERATE WHILE DRIVING AND VIBRATE WHEN FIRST TURNED ON. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DASH AFTER KEEPING THE VEHICLE FOR TWO WEEKS. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT SEE ANY WORK WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE STILL OCCURRED . THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE 4 - 5 TIMES TO THE DEALER WITH NO RESOLUTION SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN JUNE 23 2006. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY GIVING 23 MILES PER GALLON, NO WAY NEAR THE 40 MILES PER GALLON ADVERTISED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30 MILES , AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,200 MILES.*AK

2006 CAMRY PROBLEM 1: -- SYMPTOM: WHEN FILLING UP THE TANK AND SETTING THE GAS PUMP HANDLE TO AUTOMATICALLY FILL THE TANK, (I.E., SETTING THE SWITCH ON THE HANDLE), CANNOT BE DONE (THE PUMP SWITCH POPS). (THIS PROBLEM REPEATED AT MULTIPLE DIFFERENT STATIONS OVER SEVERAL CONSECUTIVE FILL-UPS.) AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC, THE DEALER SAID THE CANISTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ANOTHER GAS STATION ATTENDANT SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON MANY LATE MODEL CAMRYS (HIS STATION IS DOWN THE BLOCK FROM A DEALER SO HE SAYS HE HAS SEEN A FEW OF THESE), CAUSED WHEN THE TANK IS OVERFILLED AND FLOODING GAS INTO THE CANISTER, RUINING IT, AND ULTIMATELY CAUSING THE FILL-UP PROBLEMS DESCRIBED ABOVE. ITS SCHEDULED TO BE FIXED TOMORROW, BUT WONDERING IF THIS IS A DESIGN/PRODUCT DEFECT, THAT WILL REOCCUR IN THE FUTURE (ESP AFTER THE WARRANTY ENDS.) PLEASE DO NOT ADVISE TO NOT OVERFILL THE TANK, FOR 2 REASONS: 1) I LIVE IN NJ, WHERE ONLY STATION ATTENDANTS ARE LEGALLY ALLOWED TO FILL THE TANK, SO I HAVE LITTLE/NO CONTROL OVER IT. 2) THIS SHOULD NOT EVER BE A PROBLEM, IN GENERAL, EVEN IF THE TANK IS OVERFILLED AND GAS GUSHES ONTO THE GROUND. PROBLEM 2: WINDSHIELD CONSTANTLY FOGS UP; NEED TO USE DEFROSTER IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER, ESP RAINING. I HAD THIS PROBLEM ON MY 84 COROLLA; BIG PAIN. PROBLEM 3: SOMEWHAT JERKY RIDE, NOTICED WHEN COASTING TO A STOP, AT APPROX 5-15 MPH, THEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNS GREEN, AND START TO PRESS THE GAS, THE CAR JERKS AND LUNGES; SEEMS TO ME THAT ITS TRYING TO FIND THE RIGHT GEAR, THEN IT DOES, AND THIS HAPPENS. THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS ME, BUT OTHER DRIVERS OF MY CAR NOTICED THE SAME THING. DEALER SAID THAT THE CAR IS PROGRAMMED TO ADJUST TO THE DRIVER'S HABITS (COMPUTERS!!), AND MAY BE CONFUSED WHEN DRIVERS CHANGE, EXHIBITING THIS PROBLEM. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING PAST A ROADSIDE RADAR CHECK, THE DISPLAY READ SLOWER THAN THE SPEEDOMETER ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THIS WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE STEEL WHEELS; THEY CAUSE AN INACCURATE READING WITH THE SPEEDOMETER. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THE SPEEDOMETER COULD BE FALSE UP TO 8 PERCENT, AFTER HAVING A RADAR TEST, IT WAS DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS OFF BY 9 PERCENT.

2006 TOYOTA SOLARA DEVELOPED VARIOUS PROBLEMS.*MR THE CONSUMER RENTED THE VEHICLE WHEN HE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEMS WITH THE HEAD REST WHICH PROTRUDED FROM THE BACK SEAT RESTRICTING THE ALREADY TINY REAR WINDOW. WHEN BACKING FROM ANY PARKING SPACE, WITH THE TOP UP, T HE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SEE PEDESTRIANS . THE VEHICLE HAD A 4-8 SECOND DELAY WHEN AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO A HIGHER GEAR. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE GAUGE BECAME STUCK. THE LCD GAUGES CAN'T BE SEEN WHEN DRIVING IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT.*JB
