TOYOTA CAMRY 2010, WAS DRIVEN TO DENTIST OFFICE PARKING LOT. WHILE PARKING THE BRAKE WAS PRESSED TO BRING IT TO A STANDSTILL. HOWEVER, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND LEAPED FORWARD AND SMASHED AGAINST AN IMMOVABLE WALL IN FRONT. ALL THIS WHILE THE WHEEL KEPT ON SPINNING UNCONTROLLABLY. FRONT OF CAR IS BADLY MAULED DEPICTING THE UNCALLED FOR MOMENTUM. GLAD THAT THERE WAS A WALL AS THIS ABORTED THE FEARSOME CRAZE. DRIVER BADLY SHAKEN WITH MODERATE INJURY. NEVER EXPRIENCED THIS BEFORE.

ON MY MORNING COMMUTE I HAD TO INITIATE A FAST ACCELERATION BY DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FULLY TO GAIN SPEED AND UPON TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL I NOTICED IT REMAINED DEPRESSED FULLY AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THIS SITUATION HAD HAPPENED A YEAR PRIOR IN A SIMILAR CASE WHERE I HAD PUT "THE PEDAL TO THE METAL" AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR. SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES ALLOWED THE ACCELERATOR TO DISENGAGE AND OPERATE AS NORMAL. THE INSTANCE TODAY OCCURRED ON A CITY STREET WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT; MAX ACCELERATION WAS ENGAGED AT AROUND 5MPH AND MY TOP SPEED REACHED 40MPH BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.

Went in for regular oil change and was told the oil was burning and there was none left. First time ever hearing this problem, but very worried as to why this happened because of the possibility off engine damage driving without motor oil.

The problem is with the dashboard and it is available for inspection now. (I also have photos). It has been inspected by my two auto repair mechanics. Both are certified by AAA. The dashboard is shiny (it looks wet) and extremely sticky. There were no warning lights or messages regarding this problem. This problem began around 9/2023, but is much much worse now. It is possible that there are toxic substances being emitted from the melting compounds. This puts me and my passengers at a health risk from breathing in these substances.

My dash has melted its making my visibility impossible. I had to replace my windshield in June 2024 because of a crack Now my windshield gets and oily substance put off from the the dashboard and I cannot keep my windshield clean to see out of it.

The dashboard is melted and creates a horrible glare that is blinding. I was never informed of any recall. Toyota claims when I called today that there was a recall that expired in 10/2019 that I was never notified on.

My 2010 Toyota Camry has a sticky dashboard issue. I am the second owner of the vehicle. Toyota had an open recall on sticky dashboard recall that ended in 2020 which i was not aware of during my ownership term. I took the car into dealership multiple times for oil change and tires and I was never informed of this. They sent letter about notice to previous owner. The car was never fixed under recall. When i contacted them, they mentioned the car notice was sent to previous owner and they can't honor the warranty anymore. This is a bunch of crap. They should be held liable for 1.) sending notice to wrong address 2.) not fixing a faulty design. An expiration on "safety recall" doesn't mean the problem goes away. The problem exists on my car and it is a road-hazard as the sticky-melting dashboard creates a glare on the windshield. The car is not driveable during day time when sun is shining. This is a serious safety issue and can lead to death of driver. I expect this issue to be fixed under their now closed-recall. Closing recall doesn't fix probelm for owners that didn't receive proper communication. I expect TOYOTA to fix this free of charge

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction and concern regarding Toyota’s refusal to honor the recall or warranty enhancement program related to a defective melting dashboard in my vehicle. I was not notified of the recall. The dashboard of my vehicle has become soft, shiny, and sticky, producing an extreme glare on the windshield and a potentially hazardous driving condition. This issue matches the widely reported defective dashboard problem acknowledged by Toyota, which led to the issuance of a Warranty Enhancement Program (e.g., ZE6 / ZE7) in the past. Despite this, my attempts to have this issue addressed through your customer service and local dealership have been denied, citing either the expiration of the enhancement program or an unwillingness to extend assistance. Given the nature of the defective material safety issue stemming from substandard manufacturing, I believe Toyota has an ongoing responsibility to remedy this, regardless of an arbitrary deadline.

It is sparsely driven (about 4 months in a year), mileage: 18,900. In 2017, bubbles developed in the rear window to the extent that it was literally opaque with zero visibility. The problem was reported to the dealer, Hendrickson. The defective tint was replaced. It was a warranty replacement at no cost. The problem has re-occurred (2023). Hendrickson refuses to fix it. I complained to Toyota company on or about Dec 8th, 2023 with no response so far. On my morning walks, I pass through several car parking lots and I have noticed this problem on in several Camrys and some corollas It shows the problem is quite spread out in Toyota models. I believe it is a manufacturing defect and a safety issue (poor visibility) for which manufacturer should be responsible and fix the problem ?

The dashboard is melting, creating utterly shiny layer on top, making it almost impossible to drive ( due to glare and reflection in windshield) during even during normal daylight, let alone at night with incoming traffic headlights on.

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that the dashboard had melted due to the high outside temperature. The contact stated that the melted dashboard felt sticky and slimy. The melted dashboard impaired the contact's vision while driving. In addition, the contact stated that fumes from the melted dashboard material were hazardous when inhaled. The dealer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 36,600.

The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle out of the garage and driving the vehicle, the contact later noticed that the dashboard was melting and was sticky, causing a reflection on the windshield and a glare. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to Toyota Campaign Number: ZE6. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the same assessment was made. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the campaign had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

Dear Representative. I am submitting a complaint as per Request #605168 Replacement of stick dashboard by Toyota. I have 2010 Toyota Camry and I am the original owner. I have sticky dashboard problem since 2012/2013 and so recently I was just looking around to replace it as now bugs and other things started sticking on it. During my search I found that Toyota has this as recall in 2015/2017 and so I reached out to them for replacement. They rejected my request stating that they had sent me 2 letters notifying about the replacement and I had not responded. I responded back to Toyota confirming that I have not received any letters from Toyota in regards to dashboard. If I had received letters, why would not I replace it. I would like to request NHTSA to investigate the issue further as I asked Toyota if they had any proof to show that I have received the letter and they did not respond to it. Thank you.

THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPEND ON 8/3/2019, MY OIL LIGHT BLINKED ON AND OFF AND IT WAS NOT TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE. SO I CHECKED IT THE NEXT DAY AND I HAD NO OIL IN MY CAR. WELL IT HAPPENED AGAIN TONIGHT 9/12/2019, I HAVE SYNTHETIC OIL AND THE LIGHT LITTERALY JUST CAME ON AT THE 5K MARK. LEAVING MY MOM THE OIL LIGHT BLINKED ON AND OFF AGAIN. TOOK TO OREILY AND I HAD NO OIL IN THE CAR. I DO NOT HAVE A LEAK SO OBVIOUSLY MY CAR IS NOW BURNING OIL LIKE ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the transmission filter was faulty and clogged. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. I OPENED CASE WITH TOYOTA (1605180624) AND WAS TOLD THAT SUCH ISSUE WAS NORMAL AND IT WAS NOTHING THEY WERE GOING TO DO.

WHEN I WENT TO SERVICE MY TOYOTA CAMRY, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY STRUCTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY ARE LEAKING. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, STRUCTS ARE DESIGNED TO WORK FOR MORE THAN 7-8 YEARS. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT MY CAR WHICH IS JUST 5 YRS OLD WITH LESS THAN 60K MILES WOULD REQUIRE SUCH AN IMPORTANT VEHICLE COMPONENT TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, I FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE FOR CAMRY 2007 OR LATER MODELS. THIS DOES SOUND LIKE A DEFECTIVE PART INSTALLED BY TOYOTA. "TAKATA RECALL" I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. MY STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. ONLY SMALL PIECES OF THE AIR BAG WERE SEEN AT THE EDGE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I DID NOT TAKE A PHOTO. MY VEHICLE WAS TOTALED SO THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SOME DOCUMENTATION WITH INSURANCE COMPANY. I HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON MY CAR 10 DAYS EARLIER AND I BELIEVE MY TIRE PRESSURE MAINTENANCE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. IN LATE AUGUST 2019 WHILE RETURNING HOME FROM SHOPPING ON A FAST SPEED STREET I NEEDED TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A TURN AND THE BREAK PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, MADE A VIBRATING NOISE, THE BREAK LIGHT CAME ON RED AND WITH THE PEDAL GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BARELY BREAKING I WAS ABLE TO GO HOME, (ABOUT A MILE), DRIVING AT 5 MPH. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER AND POWER BOOSTER WITH COST OF AROUND $ 2,000.00. THE CAR ONLY HAD 31,026 MILES, ALL REQUESTED SERVICES WERE DONE ON TIME OR EVEN BEFORE TIME, NO SIGN OF SPONGY PEDAL OR BREAKS RED LIGHT COMING UP FOR WARNING BEFORE THIS HAPPENING. LATELY I DISCOVERED EMERGENCY BREAK NOT WORKING, (NEVER CHECKED AFTER REPAIRS) WHILE CAR LEFT ON DRIVE AND PUT EMERGENCY BREAKS, CAR MOVES. CERTAINLY I WILL NOT RETURN TO DEALER WHERE I WENT SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, DID THEY FORGOT TO CHECK THE EMERGENCY BREAKS AFTER BREAKS REPAIR?AS THEY HAD FORGOTTEN OTHER THING AFTER PAST SERVICES. NEVER TOYOTA AGAIN. WHEN I TALKED TO TOYOTA NATIONAL HEADQUARTER I WAS TOLD THE DEALER GAVE ME A VERY GOOD PRICE AND THEY PARTNER WITH DEALERS. I ASKED IF THE WOULD REIMBURSE SOME SINCE THE CAR IS NOT EVEN AT 36,000 MILES AND THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS 10 YEAR OLD! THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN KEPT IN THE GARAGE, DRIVEN WEEKLY AROUND AND ONE DAY OF THE WEEK DRIVEN AT FAST SPEED TO KEEP EVERYTHING IN ORDER. BRAKE ACTUATOR: MY BRAKES WERE MAKING A CREAKING NOISE /THUMPING WHEN PRESSED...IN WHICH CASE I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST TIME FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE. ABOUT 0430, DECEMBER 21, 2017 (MY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY) I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 99SOUTH HEADED FROM FRESNO, CA TO TULARE, CA...ABOUT A 45MIN DRIVE. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR STARTED TO MAKE RANDOM CHIMING SOUNDS THAT DID NOT SEEM TO COME FROM ANYWHERE PARTICULAR. THERE WAS NO INDICATOR LIGHT ASSOCIATED WITH THE SOUND...IT WAS JUST RANDOM SOUNDS I HAD NEVER HEARD BEFORE. THAT WENT ON PERIODICALLY FOR THE NEXT 20-30MINS. I FINALLY MADE IT TO THE PROSPERITY AVE OFF-RAMP AND BEGAN TO PRESS THE BREAKS. IMMEDIATELY, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON MY PANEL LIT UP AND A STEADY, HIGH PITCH SOUND CAME ON AND I COULDN'T STOP MY CAR. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE BREAK ACTUATOR, IT WAS A "WARRANTY" THAT THEY'D COVER AT NO COST. I ASKED WHY I WASN'T NOTIFIED SINCE THE SITUATION IS LIFE THREATENING AND THERE WERE NO ANSWERS FOR THAT. TOYOTA HAD MY CAR FOR ABOUT A MONTH BECAUSE I DEMANDED THEY REPAIR EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH THE BREAKS...QUITE HONESTLY I WAS JUST AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. BREAK ACTUATOR, 2ND EVENT EVENT 1 COMPLAINT NUMBER 11234969 23 JULY 2019, DROPPED MY CAR OFF WITH TOYOTA CLOVIS SAME DEALERSHIP (JACOB WAS MY REP) BECAUSE MY BRAKES WAS MAKING THE CREAKING SOUND/THUMPING. I ASKED HIM TO CHECK MY BRAKES AND IF THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM, CALL ME TO LET ME KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. HE CALLED ME LATER THAT DAY AND SAID IT WAS THE BRAKES, THEY WENT AHEAD AND CHANGED THE BRAKE PADS. HE SAID THEY RECOMMEND TO CHANGE BRAKE ACTUATOR FLUID? SINCE IT WASN'T DONE WHEN THEY CHANGED THE ACTUATOR PREVIOUSLY AND HE WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME. I COMMENTED THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE BACK IN 2017 WHEN THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ORIGINALLY FAILED. I ASKED IF IT WOULD AFFECT MY CAR, DRIVABILITY, ETC. AND JACOB SAID NO IT SHOULD DRIVE FINE WITH NO PROBLEMS OTHER THAN A FEW SETTLE SOUNDS. HE SAID BUT THE BRAKES ARE FIXED AND IT'S NO LONGER MAKING THE SOUND/ THUMPING. SO I DECLINED THE FLUID SERVICE. 25 JULY 2019, I WAS GOING TO GET MY DAUGHTER FROM SCHOOL. BY THEN, IT HAD STARTED TO MAKE THE CHEAKING NOISE/THUMPING. I GOT JUST ABOUT TO HER SUMMER SCHOOL (ON FOWLER AVE) AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON MY PANEL LIT UP AGAIN. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. I DROVE IT HOME SLOW. WE CALLED TOYOTA, SPOKE TO THE MANAGER, EXPLAINED THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED BEFORE. I JUST PAID THEM $240 FOR BRAKE PADS THAT I DIDN'T NEED. I REFUSED TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSING IN 1.5HRS WHICH LEFT NO TIME FOR TOW TRUCK. MY HUSBAND DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, I FOLLOWED IN HIS CAR. TOYOTA (JACOB) GAVE ME A LOANER. 25 JULY 2019, THE MANAGER CALLED AND SAID THE ISSUE WAS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILED AGAIN BUT BECAUSE THE PART WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE (MANAGER ACTUALLY AGREED) WAS ONLY COVERED FOR A YEAR, I'D HAVE TO CONTACT CORPORATE TO SEE IF THEY COULD CHANGE IT OUT AT NO COST. I WILL CALL TOMORROW (26 JULY 2019)...ALTHOUGH, I DO NOT PLAN ON EVER DRIVING THIS CAR AGAIN.

THE ABS BRAKE ACTUATOR ON MY TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID HAS GONE BAD CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE FOR OPERATION. I WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT THE ACTUATOR WOULD BE COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY EXTENSION. HOWEVER AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD AND/OR NO ERROR CODES PRESENT WHEN HOOKED UP TO A SCAN TOOL EVEN THOUGH THE PART IS FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

I OWNED 2010 CAMRY LE AND WHEN IT REACHED APPROX. 30,000 MILES WARRANTY THE FRONT BRAKE STARTED VIBRATING AND I FELT L LIKE THE WHEEL WAS GOING TO COME OFF WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES FROM HIGH SPEED AND GOING DOWNHILL. I'M NOT A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC BUT I KNEW IT WAS A WARP BRAKE ROTOR. I HAD THE ROTOR TURNED AND THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.I THINK IT IS VERY PREMATURE FOR A BRAKE ROTOR TO FAIL AT 30,000 MILES AND MOST ESPECIALLY FOR A CAMRY. 1. THE CAR HAD A FAILURE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM ACCORDING TO: THE REPAIR SHOP, THE INSURANCE ADJUSTOR AND TOYOTA INDEPENDENT INSPECTION. BASICALLY A BOLT THAT SECURES THE HOSE TO THE CALIPER WAS LOOSE WHICH CAUSED THE OIL TO LEAK AND THE BRAKES TO FAIL. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THERE WAS NO NEGLIGENCE OF MAINTAINING THE CAR SINCE THE CAR IS NEW - ONLY ABOUT 4,000 MILES -AND SERVICED ONLY AT THE DEALER ACCORDING TO SERVICE SCHEDULE.

We have a 2010 Camry. It is having the sticky dash issue with it, which is a known issue with Toyota. And more concerning, the issue is causing a horrible glare on the windshield. This is a safety hazard as it is very hard to see. I understand there was a recall at one point, but since it is a huge safety concern, I would like Toyota to replace the dashboard at no cost to me.

My Toyota Camry Has been turned down for a melting and shiny dashboard replacement. Toyota says they notified me but I never received a notice in the mail. I called them at least four times, but they would not do the necessary replacement, saying that I was beyond the period of their offer to replace it. The problem seemed to occur some years after the purchase which was not visible till about two years ago. I consider this a safety problem because of the glare in the modern tilted windshields. I would like help on this problem

The dashboard of my car is extremely sticky and is now causing a glare when I drive. This is a safety hazard due to the fact that the light from other cars/stoplights reflects off the shiny/sticky surface. This problem is very prevalent in other cars as well. I tried to get it fixed through extended warranty, but that ended in 2020. I believe that Toyota should extend this warranty as we were in a lockdown for all of 2020, and I was not able to visit a repair shop. There were no warning lamps/messages prior to the failure of my dashboard, making it more dangerous as I found out when I had a glare from another car reflecting off my dashboard and temporarily blinding my view.

THE DASHBOARD IS BREAKING DOWN AND HAS BECOME VERY STICKY. THIS CAUSES GLARE WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT IT ON 9/14/209, BUT THEY SAID THEIR 'WARRANT ENHANCEMENT' EXPIRED ON 8/13/2019. TOYOTA SAID THAT THEY SENT A LETTER IN 2016, WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED. I HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT A TOYOTA DEAL (JACK TAYLOR TOYOTA, ALEXANDRIA VA), AND THEY NEVER NOTIFIED ME OF THE 'WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT.' THEY SAID THAT THEY ONLY HAD TO NOTIFY FOR RECALL SAFETY ISSUES. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD REPLACE IT FOR @2,171.46 THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, NOT JUST A 'WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT.' TOYOTA'S METHODS TO NOTIFY ARE INADEQUATE AND THIS PROBLEM IS ONGOING - ME AND MANY OTHERS WILL HAVE THIS SAFETY PROBLEM BEYOND TOYOTA'S WARRANT PERIOD. ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY DO SUCH A POOR JOB OF CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION. THIS CAUSES A LOT OF ROAD GLARE AT NIGHT AND WILL CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS. TOYOTA IS OBVIOUSLY NOT DOING THE RIGHT THING ON THEIR OWN. I HOPE THE NTSB CAN PLEASE ADVANCE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE.

DEFECTIVE HEAD LIGHTS ON MY 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY LE PLUS AN UNBELIEVABLE RUN-A-ROUND FROM TOYOTA. ON 8/10/09 AT 9:00 P. M. WE NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILLS GAVE US 4FT. VISIBILITY. GOING UP HILLS IT GAVE US 4 FT. OF VISIBILITY. VIEW THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD WAS CUT OFF BY A BLACKNESS. WE NOTIFIED THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY. THE NEXT DAY WE DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN WE NOTIFIED OUR SALESMAN. HE TOLD US TO TAKE IT IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. ON 8/13/09 @ 9:00 AM, MY WIFE TOOK THE 2010 CAMRY IN TO ADJUST AND FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MECHANIC TOLD HER THAT HE ONLY HAD SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT AND THERE WAS NO MORE ADJUSTMENT. I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT BEHIND A 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE LED BRAKE LIGHTS ARE SO INTENSE ON THAT CAR THAT MY RETINA'S WERE RED SATURATED. WHEN THE STOPLIGHT TURNED GREEN I LOOKED AT MY DASH AND THE YELLOW MAINTENANCE LIGHT APPEARED GREEN. THIS COLOR SATURATION LASTED A LEAST 1 MINUTE. THIS MEANS THAT A YELLOW STOP LIGHT WOULD APPEAR GREEN AND THAT A GREEN LIGHT WOULD APPEAR YELLOW. THE RED INDICATOR LIGHT IN MY DASH DISPLAY CAME ON WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AND CONTINUED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC. MY ALTERNATOR NEEDS REPLACEMENT, WHICH IS VERY DISAPPOINTING BECAUSE THE CAR ONLY HAS 84,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND SERVICED REGULARLY. I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO, AND THE ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT QUOTE FROM THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE MY FAMILY PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IS QUOTING $1,245 FOR A NEW ALTERNATOR (PARTS & LABOR). AN INTERNET SEARCH LED ME TO FIND THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO QUITE A FEW OWNERS OF THIS ERA OF TOYOTA. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL OR ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO COVER THE COST OF THIS VERY EXPENSIVE AND PREMATURE REPAIR. ON 2 OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED (65-70 MPH) IN TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE, MY CAR LOST POWER (IT DID NOT CUT OFF--ONLY LOST POWER). AFTER WORKING MY WAY OFF OF THE INTERSTATE HWY., I WAS ABLE TO USE A CODE READER AND FOUND THAT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P2112 HAD BEEN SET (THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM-STUCK CLOSED). AFTER ERASING THE DTC THE CAR RAN OK. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE--ONCE ON 02/16/2017 (MILEAGE 75,465) AND A SECOND TIME ON 04/10/2017 (MILEAGE 75,829). FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS IN TOYOTA'S SERVICE MANUAL FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE, I CHECKED THE RESISTANCE OF THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR ON THE THROTTLE BODY AND FOUND IT WAS WELL WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS--MEASURED 4 OHMS AND SPEC IS 0.3-100 OHMS). IN MY OPINION, LOSING POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE IS A VERY HAZARDOUS SITUATION.

THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WENT BLACK WHEN DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY OUT OF TOWN. AND LATER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE TO BE CHECKED AT A DEALER WHO SAID EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE EXCEPT FOR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WORKED WELL THIS TIME. TWO DAYS LATER, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TURNED ON ALL OF WARNING LIGHTS AND THEN WENT BLACK AGAIN, AT THE SAME TIME, THE CAR LOST POWER AND I COULDN'T SPEED IT UP. PULL OVER AND RESTARTED IT, EVERYTHING TURNED TO BE OK. SO, I SENT IT THE LOCAL DEALER WHO REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. I KEEP THE BROKEN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN CASE FOR NEED OF FURTHER INVESTIGATION.

BOTH THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE LOCK CONTROLS FAIL TO LOCK AND UNLOCK BOTH THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS. OCCASIONALLY, DEPENDING ON THE TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK. IT IS A SIMILAR PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE WINDOW/ LOCK CONTROL RECALL FOR 2007 AND 2009 TOYOTA CAMRYS. IT ALMOST SEEMS AS THOUGH THERE IS A FAULTY WIRE CONNECTION. THIS OCCURS AT ALL TIMES, NO MATTER WHETHER THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR NOT.

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Camry equipped with Starfire Tires, Tire Line: Solarus A/S, Tire Size: 215/60/R16, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle wobbled due to all four tires losing air. The contact purchased a compressor to constantly add air to all four tires. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a nail in the front driver's side tire, and the mechanic patched the front driver's side tire. The vehicle was then taken to a Goodyear service center, and it was determined that the front driver's side tire had a cut in the tread. The technician replaced the front driver's side tire and adjusted the air pressure in all four tires; however, the failure recurred with all four tires losing air. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,800.

IN LATE 2009, I PURCHASED A NEW 2010 CAMRY HYBRID. THE VEHICLE CAME WITH BRIDGESTONE TURANZA TIRES. I HAVE JUST HAD TO REPLACE THESE TIRES AFTER 2.5 YEARS AND ONLY 19,700 MILES. THE FRONT TIRES WERE 4/32 AND RIGHT AT THE WEAR MARK, THE REAR AT 6/32. THE WORN TIRE TREADS BECAME EVIDENT WITH THE FIRST CHICAGO SNOW. AT 10 MILES PER HOUR, I WAS SLIDING AS I DROVE HOME AND, AT ONE POINT, HAD TO SKID INTO A CURB IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE SO AS NOT TO SLIDE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC IN A CROWDED INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT AND NO DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE OR OTHER PROPERTY. I CONTACTED THE DEALER (FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE CAR) TO COMPLAIN. HE TOLD ME THE TIRES WERE GUARANTEED FOR FIVE YEARS BUT HAD NO ESTIMATED MILEAGE, WHICH IS HARD TO BELIEVE. I ALSO CONTACTED ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THESE TIRES LAST NO MORE THAN 25,000 MILES. I SPOKE WITH A BRIDGESTONE DEALER AND WAS TOLD 40,000 MILES. I HAVE CHANGED THE OIL ON MY CAR REGULARLY AND ALSO HAD MY TIRES ROTATED EVERY SIX MONTHS (MY CAR HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE TO DATE). IT IS EVIDENT THAT BRIDGESTONE TURANZA TIRES DO NOT MEET EVEN THE MINIMUM ENDURANCE REQUIREMENTS.

2010 TOYOTA CAMRY EXPERIENCED ACCELERATION ON FREEWAY EXIT RAMP AT 7:30 AM DURING RUSH HOUR. PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE RACED. CAR WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE WITH ENGINE STILL RACING. SINCE THE TIME I BOUGHT MY NEW 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY, I SAW ISSUES WITH THE WAY THE CAR TRANSMISSION WORKED AT SPEEDS FROM 0-50MPH. STARTING FROM THE FIRST WEEK OF MY USING THE CAR, I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES, ONLY TO BE SENT BACK AFTER A "TEST DRIVE" SAYING NOTHING IS WRONG. IN MY OWN LANGUAGE, I HAD BEEN EXPLAINING THE ISSUE WHICH NOW LOOKS EXACTLY SIMILAR TO THE 'STICKING GAS PEDAL" RECALL RECENTLY INFORMED BY TOYOTA. MY CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING WHILE BRAKING, OR WOULD START BRAKING WHEN MY FOOT IS OFF THE ACCELERATOR. I ALSO USED TO FEEL A JERK WHEN THE CAR MOVED BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 0-50MPH. TOYOTA'S RESPONSE FROM A CASE MANAGER WAS THAT IF THEY CANNOT RECREATE THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. I ALMOST FEEL THIS IS A HOPELESS CASE AS I DON'T THINK NEITHER TOYOTA NOR THE DEALERSHIP WERE TRULY SERIOUS ABOUT ASSISTING ME. HOWEVER THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE FIRST TIME THEY SAID THERE WAS DEBRIS IN THE ENGINE HOWEVER IT TOOK THEM OVER 30 DAYS TO FIX IT AND THEY DID NOT SEEM CONFIDENT THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE DAY AFTER PURCHASING MY 2010 CAMRY, THE CAR SEEMED TO RIDE FUNNY. I FELT UNEASY BUT INITIALLY THOUGHT IT MAY BE THAT IT WAS MY FIRST COMPLETELY NEW CAR. THIS WENT ON FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, I.E. THE CAR SEEMING TO JERK OR HEAVE, REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED. I WAS WORRIED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE AND THEN THE LIGHTS ON THE AIRCONDITION/HEATING BOARD STOPPED WORKING SO I THOUGHT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM INSTEAD. I TOOK IT IN. THE MECHANIC EXPLAINED EVERYTHING AWAY, EXPLAINED THE 'ELECTRICAL PROBLEM', AND STATED THAT THE HEAVING FEELING I WAS SENSING WAS THAT THE CAR WAS COMPUTERIZED AND THAT IT TOOK TIME FOR THE ACCELERATOR TO CATCH UP WITH THE SIGNAL THE COMPUTER WAS GIVING IT, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. HE RAN AN ENGINE CHECK AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. ON MY SERVICE SHEET HE SIMPLY STATED THAT I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ACCELERATOR HESITATING (WHICH I DID NOT), BUT DID NOT DOCUMENT THAT I BROUGHT THE CAR IN COMPLAINING THAT IT HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. A WEEK LATER THERE WAS THE RECALL. WHEN I LATER CALLED ABOUT THE RECALL AND CONTINUED TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE ACCELERATOR PROBLEM, THE SERVICEMAN ( A DIFFERENT ONE) TOLD ME THAT I WOULD FEEL NO CHANGE IN THE WAY THE WAY THE CAR DROVE SO HE WOULD HAVE SOMEONE RIDE WITH ME TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. MY WIFE OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY, WHICH HAS BEEN TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR THE GAS PEDAL RECALL FIX. ON TUESDAY, MARCH 2ND, I WAS DRIVING HER CAMRY. I PLACED THE SHIFT LEVER IN DRIVE, TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT WHAT SEEMED TO BE FULL THROTTLE. MY FOOT WAS NOT EVEN ON THE GAS PEDAL. IN AUGUST 2009 I PURCHASED A 4-CYLINDER AUTOMATIC 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TAKING DELIVERY I NOTICED THAT THE CAR HESITATED WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR IT FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE IS NOT GETTING SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF GAS AND IT WILL STALL. IT TAKES A NOTICEABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE ENGINE TO RESPOND TO THE DEMAND FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. UPON CONTACTING THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT ACCELERATION WILL SMOOTH OUT AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS. HOWEVER, SEVEN MONTHS LATER THE HESITATION IS STILL THERE. FROM POSTINGS ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH CAMRY WHICH TOYOTA HAS KNOWN FOR MANY YEARS BUT INSTEAD OF FIXING THE PROBLEM THE COMPANY HAS TRIED TO ADDRESS IT THROUGH TSBS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, EG056-06 AND EG036-07. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH 2010 CAMRY AND EXPERIENCE OF MANY OTHER 2010 CAMRY OWNERS POSTED ON THE WEB IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TO EXIST. IN ADDITION TO BEING A DESIGN FLAW IT IS ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE CAR DOES NOT REACT NORMALLY WHEN THE DRIVER PRESSES THE ACCELERATOR. THIS IS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OR GETTING ON A HIGHWAY. CAR'S HESITATION BEFORE PICKING UP SPEED CAN LEAD DRIVER TO MISJUDGE THE TIME NEEDED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC WHICH CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. WHILE IN MOTION, THE CAR STALLS. IT HAS STALLED ON CITY STREETS AND ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. TOYOTA HAS A RECALL COMING FOR FUEL PUMPS ON TOYOTA AND LEXUS VEHICLES. THE RECALL IS TO BE ANNOUNCED IN MARCH OF 2020, BUT I'M NOT SURE THE 2010 CAMRY IS INCLUDED, BUT IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THE PROBLEM OCCURS ON A DAILY BASIS.

TWICE WHILE DRIVING LAST WEEK THE CAR ABRUPTLY AND ON ITS OWN, ACCELERATED TO A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS ABLE TO SLOW IT DOWN. My 2010 Camry has become incredibly unsafe to drive or be in due to the dashboard melting. There is an unbelievably unsafe glare caused by the dashboard reflecting sunlight and the more the dash melts the more intense the glare becomes. There is also a smell that renders the vehicle almost worthless on hot days and causes headaches. This is on top of not being able to clean the dashboard because you cannot touch it with anything. All bugs and any dust that land on the dashboard live there permanently. You cannot wipe it with anything. Your finger prints stay on the dash with the lightest touch and often it becomes so hot you cannot touch it without potentially burning yourself. The dash melting is a safety hazard to everyone on the roadways. There are likely millions of cars with this defective dashboard that have not been repaired. I have contacted Toyota several times, including executives and high ranking corporate employees, and they say that they will not replace or help with this defective and unsafe cheap component that they used in order to increase their margins. The problem has been acknowledged by Toyota but they failed to contact an incredibly high number of owners that are affected. I first noticed the glare in 2014 and it has gotten progressively worse. I took the vehicle to a toyota dealership twice (2016/2023) and they refused to fix the defective dash both times. They expect owners to pay $3,500-$5,000 for a dashboard repair on a vehicle that has 100k+ mile life left yet is only worth around $5,000. They are essentially totaling cars that owners have worked hard to maintain and get the most out of. Toyota is stealing 10+ years of vehicle life from many consumers and placing the burden of their profit margins increasing onto consumers that buy toyotas because of their longevity and reliability.

DASH BOARD IS STICKY AND MELTING. CALLED TOYOTA BECAUSE FOUND WARRANTY INFORMATION AND THEY SAID THEIR WARRANTY EXPIRED IN MAY 2017. IN MAY, MY DASHBOARD WAS FINE. TODAY'S DATE IS AUGUST 22, 2017. LUG NUTS SWELLING MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE WITH SUPPLIED LUG WRENCH. ALL 20 LUG NUTS SHOW EVIDENCE OF SEPARATION OF THE STEEL NUT AND THE DECORATIVE CHROME COVER COVERING THE STEEL LUG NUT. DEFECT WAS FOUND BY TIRE DEALER DURING PURCHASE OF NEW TIRES WHEN THE TECHNICIAN HAD DIFFICULTY REMOVING LUG NUTS. ACCORDING TO THE TIRE STORE MANAGER THIS DAMAGE IS CAUSED BY WATER GETTING BETWEEN THE STEEL NUT AND THE DECORATIVE CAP WHICH CAUSES RUST TO FORM. WHEN THE OXIDATION FORMS IT PUTS PRESSURE ON THE DECORATIVE CAP CAUSING IT TO EXPAND. THE NORMAL 21MM WRENCH WILL NOT FIT OVER THE LUG NUT DUE TO THE EXPANSION SO THE NEXT SIZE WRENCH IS NECESSARY WHICH THEN DAMAGES THE NUT. THE NORMAL LUG NUT WRENCH SUPPLIED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR THE CAR IS THEREFORE NOT ABLE TO BE USED TO REMOVE LUG NUTS. I HAVE THE DAMAGED LUG NUTS IF NEEDED FOR EXAMINATION

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN ATTEMPTING A TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD WOBBLE ABNORMALLY AND THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL ABRUPTLY TO EITHER SIDE. IN ADDITION, WHEN BRAKING IN WET ROAD CONDITIONS, THE WHEELS WOULD SLIDE BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD COME TO A STOP. THE REAR WHEEL WOULD WOBBLE EXCESSIVELY AND WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO THE RIGHT, MAKING THE DRIVE BUMPY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAS BEEN TEST DRIVEN AND RECEIVED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, YET THE DEALER WAS NEVER ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE CONFORMED TO ALL SPECIFICATIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,500.

FOLLOWING THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A STRONG, OVERWHELMING ODOR OF GASOLINE FUMES EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE ALSO STATED THE FUMES SEEMED TO BE EMITTING INTO THE CABIN FROM THE AIR DUCTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. SUDDEN ACCELERATION WAS NOTICED ON OCCASIONS BEFORE THE KNOWN RECALL. THE VEHICLE STILL DOES IT IN REVERSE EVEN AFTER TOYOTA DID THE REPAIR (PLACED THE INSERT IN THE GAS PEDAL). THE ACCELERATION IN REVERSE IS FREQUENT. I NO LONGER FEEL THAT MY VEHICLE IS SAFE, BUT IT IS MY SOLE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR, I BACKED OUT OF MY GARAGE, DRIVEWAY, AND WENT UP MY STREET (HUNDREDS OF YARDS) WITHOUT USING THE GAS PEDAL!

I AM REQUESTING THAT DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE DRIVER'S CONTRIBUTION TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION (UA) AND TOYOTA'S ACCELERATOR/BRAKE PEDAL DESIGNS THAT MAKE IT POSSIBLE. I WAS DRIVING A RENTED TOYOTA CAMRY IN A PARKING LOT. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO GAIN SPEED. I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE AND IT ACCELERATED. THE HARDER I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR THE FASTER IT WENT. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE FOR A MOMENT AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. I BELIEVE THAT MY FOOT WAS ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDALS. I MEASURED THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR AND FOUND THAT IT WAS ONLY 1.5 INCHES. MY VEHICLE A GM ACADIA IS 2.5 INCHES. THIS MADE ME THINK THAT THE TOPS OF THE TWO PEDALS ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. I MANAGED TO FIND 6 DIFFERENT TOYOTA MODELS INCLUDING THE PRIUS AND THEY AVERAGED 1.5 INCHES BETWEEN THE TOPS OF THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDALS. I MEASURE COMPETITIVE VEHICLES AND FOUND THEY AVERAGED 2.2 INCHES. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE TOYOTA DESIGNS ' THEY ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. I HAVE CONTINUED TO INVESTIGATE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND HAVE COLLECTED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF DATA THAT SUPPORTS THE FACT THAT THE DRIVER IS A MAJOR CAUSE OF UA AND THAT SOME VEHICLE DESIGNS MAKE IT POSSIBLE. I HAVE CONDUCTED DRIVING TESTS AND SIMULATED THE CONDITIONS THAT CAUSE UA. THEY CLEARLY IDENTIFY THAT TOYOTA PEDAL DESIGNS CONTRIBUTE TO THE DRIVER BEING A CAUSE OF UA. GOOD VEHICLE PEDAL DESIGNS MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SIMULTANEOUSLY AND UNINTENTIONALLY DEPRESS BOTH PEDALS. FROM THE ODI INCIDENT REPORTS GM VEHICLES SEEM TO BE PARTICULARLY INSENSITIVE WHILE THE FORD 150 TRUCK SEEMS TO HAVE A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. I am reporting a serious safety hazard involving a 2010 Toyota Camry purchased from GA Carz 4 Less, LLC through the GovDeals.com platform. The seller provided no disclosures of mechanical issues. Immediately upon receiving the vehicle, it exhibited violent engine knocking, shaking, heavy oil leakage, and repeated engine shutdowns. Two certified mechanics inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the engine has catastrophic internal damage involving camshaft timing system failure and severe internal wear. Both mechanics stated that attempting to operate the vehicle at highway speeds could have caused the engine to explode due to internal failure and pressure spikes. This was an alarming and dangerous finding, especially since the vehicle was advertised without any safety warnings or disclosures. Additionally, the Carfax mileage in March 2025 was 193,653 miles, but the vehicle delivered to me showed over 208,000 miles—an undisclosed increase of more than 18,000 miles. This raises potential concerns regarding sustained driving after the auction despite severe mechanical issues. The seller listed the vehicle twice before selling it, suggesting possible prior knowledge of the engine condition. I later found numerous online complaints reporting similar instances of this dealership selling vehicles with severe undisclosed defects, indicating a broader safety problem affecting multiple consumers. The condition of this engine creates a risk of sudden shutdown, engine seizure, explosion, fire, and loss of vehicle control, which could cause serious injury or death. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter, investigate the safety risks associated with these undisclosed engine defects, and determine whether this dealership’s practices pose a danger to the public. This complaint is being filed to prevent potential harm to future buyers and to document a serious safety hazard that I experienced firsthand.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound while depressing the brake pedal, with the TPMS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the brakes and parking brake had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that all four tires needed to be replaced. The tires and the brakes were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The dealer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

My 2010 Toyota Camry LE dashboard is physically sticky, extremely shiny, & material of dashboard is melting & breaking down. It produces fumes at higher temperatures & seems to add fog to glass.The entire dashboard material is impacted. It has drip marks, bubbling, and erosion & getting worse. The area where the passenger airbag would deploy from is impacted, as well as overall integrity of physical dashboard across entire dashboard. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others is being put at risk by the following: Multiple significant safety issues for driver & passengers from dashb1) visibility issues from extreme glare onto windshield result in blinding and/or distractiing driver, 2) Integrity of dashboard material is compromised (spongy, sticky, breaking down & worse with heat in normal conditions of use) 3) the dashboard is impaired where airbag would deploy from, 4) exposure to chemical fumes and particles from dashboard materials continues as it breaks down. I had Toyota Dealership Service Manager to view & inspect this dashboard in person on [XXX]. The service manager sat in driver seat and observed problem with extreme glare, touch to confirm stickiness, and I pointed to example of drips of melting dashboard, small pieces chipped & eroded from dashboard. The service manager also confirmed the passenger airbag does deploy from the dashboard (when asked). The toyota service manager then checked for recall or service program related to this issue. A customer service program would have replaced this for free - but showed as expired. I was then provided an estimate for dashboard replacement of $3128. This is serious defect that demands a safety recall. It impacts the safety and integrity of my vehicle and others on the road in the U.S. My vehicle only has 75,560 miles. No sensors or warning lights exist for dashboard material I'm aware of. The problem has been evolving overtime and getting worse. Merits safety recall. 1)the engine died upon stopping at the stop light,but was able to start again.the engine light & stability control light came on. the service dept replaced the battery and neutral switch was also replaced. 2) check engine light & stability control light came on again in the same situation.the technician suggested to remove the aftermarket alarm system for less than $1k(6hours of labor). I took the car to alarm installer to have it remove for a fraction of the dealer's price. this time i sought the help of BAR agent.Who had not shown at the service dept according to the Technician. i provided him all the receipt I had on hand. 3. took the car to another mechanic whose diagnosis was the same as the dealers.was advised to take it back to the dealer for they do not touch something that the dealer has started. back to the dealer, they replaced the shifter as it was contaminated by spilt coffee by the previous owner. 4) still, the same lights illuminated.this time car was in their shop from July 20th i was called two times to come and pick it up.but when I got there, not ready yet. today, I got there and was told that they could not do anything anymore. Either drive the car or towed somewhere else.my choice. how could i drive a car knowingly that it is not safe to do so. i was offered $7k( including all the monies I paid every time i drove off their lot.) to trade in for a new car in which i cannot afford in the first place. suggested to tow it back to the dealer where i bought it, Lexus of Sacramento. please advise.

THEY READ THE CODES AND THE FAULTS DISPLAYED ARE THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR FAULT AND PASSENGER CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM FAULT (IF I RECALL CORRECTLY). AS THE AIR BAGS ARE NO LONGER ACTIVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE FAULT CAME ON WHILE JUST AFTER TURNING INTO PARKING SPOT IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE CORNER OF LAWRENCE AND PROSPECT. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THEY NEED TO CHECK THE VEHICLE BUT IT WAS LIKELY THE AIR BAG CLOCKSPRING IS SHORTING AS THEY'VE REPLACED THIS ON A NUMBER OF CARS. CHECKING ONLINE IT SEEMS THAT TOYOTA HAS A RECALL ON THE AIR BAG CLOCK SPRING ON SOME MODELS BUT I DIDNT SEE ONE OF THE CAMRY. ALSO A NUMBER OF REPORTS ONLINE OF CONSUMERS CHANGING THE CLOCKSPRINGS. MY AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON IN MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT WATER WAS LEAKING FROM THE HVAC SYSTEM ONTO THE AIRBAG CONTROL UNIT AND SHORTING IT OUT. THIS WAS BECAUSE THE DRAIN FROM THE HVAC SYSTEM WAS CLOGGED AND CONDENSED WATER WAS NOT DRAINING OUT ONTO THE GROUND AS DESIGNED. INSTEAD, IT BUILT UP AND THEN LEAKED ONTO THE AIRBAG CONTROL UNIT. THIS CAR HAS REQUIRED 6 SETS OF TIRES IN LESS THAN 90,0000 MILES. THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WILL ROLL DOWN WHEN PRESSING THE BUTTON TO ROLL IT UP. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE FIRST OIL CHANGE. THE AIR CONDITIONER OCCASIONALLY SWITCHES ITSELF FROM RECYCLED TO FRESH AIR WHILE DRIVING FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. SENSOR IN PASSENGER SEAT MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING RANDOM ALARM ABOUT SEATBELT WHEN NO ONE IS SEATED THERE. THE DASHBOARD BECAME STICKY TO THE TOUCH, AND CLOTH WOULD STICK TO IT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO WIPE IT CLEAN. THE DASHBOARD THEN DEVELOPED SEVERAL DEEP CRACKS, RUNNING ERRATICALLY LY FROM FRONT TO BACK. IN PLACES AROUND TRIM PIECES, DASHBOARD PLASTIC HAS FLAKED AWAY. PLASTIC ON THE TOP OF THE CONSOLE'S LID HAS CHIPPED AND FLAKED AWAY, AND CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED AROUND IT. PAINT ON TRIM OF CONSOLE HAS BUBBLED UP AND RUINED THE FINISH IN CONSOLE DRINK HOLDER LID. THE CD PLAYER MALFUNCTIONED, WITH A DISC READ ERROR REPORTED, THOUGH NO DISC WAS INSIDE THE PLAYER, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF SYSTEM. THE AUX AUDIO PORT FAILED AFTER ONLY A YEAR OF REGULAR USE. THE FLOOR MATS HAD TO BE REMOVED DUE TO THE ACCELERATION RECALL AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT DEALERSHIP WANTED TO PROVIDE RECALL SERVICE LIMITED TO SECURING THESE WITH A ZIP TIE. WE HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE NEW AND FOLLOWED THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE RELIGIOUSLY. THE CAR IS AT 76,000 MILES AND YESTERDAY I DISCOVERED THAT THE CAR HAD BURNED THROUGH 2.5 QUARTS OF OIL LESS THAN 3000 MILES FROM THE LAST OIL CHANGE. ADDITIONALLY THE SLAVE CYLINDER IS LEAKING AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT 23000 MILES. PRIOR TO THE LAST 3000 MILES, THE CAR HAD NEVER BURNED THROUGH OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. UPON RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I FOUND THAT THE PREVIOUS GENERATION OF THIS ENGINE HAD PISTON ISSUES THAT TOYOTA EVENTUALLY STARTED FIXING FOR FREE (AFTER MULTIPLE CLASS ACTION SUITS). I TOOK IT IN TO MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY RECOMMENDED AN ENTIRE ENGINE OVERHAUL TO FIX THE PISTONS ($5000) OF WHICH THEY COVER NOTHING. IN ADDITION THEY CONFIRMED THE SLAVE CYLINDER WAS LEAKING AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE OVERHAULED A 2ND TIME ($2,600). UNFORTUNATELY I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN MANUAL, AND TOYOTA BARELY SOLD ANY OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS WHICH HAS RESULTED IN NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ANY MANUFACTURER DEFECTS. WHILE I UNDERSTAND THE TRANSMISSION IS POORLY DESIGNED BUT CONSIDERED A WEAR ITEM, I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE PISTONS ON A CAR WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE WOULD GIVE OUT AT 76,000 MILES.

THE DRIVER IMMEDIATELY BRAKED AND THE BRAKES DID REDUCE THE SPEED OF THE CAR. THE ABILITY TO STEER WAS RECOVERED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 1 MINUTE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION. A REVIEW OF THE COMPUTER DATA (TROUBLE CODES) INDICATED A FAILURE OF THE ABS ACTUATOR AND STEERING ANGLE SENSOR. MAURICE AT THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AID THE TOYOTA COMPANY WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURE AND HE ALSO SAID THAT, "NO ASSISTANCE WOULD BE GIVEN" AS THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY.WE HAVE A CASE NUMBER FILED WITH TOYOTA. I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY WHEN THE PROBLEMS WITH UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION BEGAN WITH THIS CAR, BUT THEY ARE FAIRLY RECENT. ALL OCCURRED WHEN THE CAR WAS STOPPED OR MOVING VERY SLOWLY. I DO NOT HAVE VERY GOOD RECOLLECTIONS OF THE EARLIEST OF THESE OCCURRENCES, BUT I CAN REMEMBER THE LAST THREE CLEARLY. THE FIRST OF THESE WAS IN MARCH 2015. I WAS DRIVING IN AN AREA WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 35 MPH AND HAD STOPPED FOR A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. I REMEMBER CLEARLY THAT I HAD MY FOOT SOLIDLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL; I HAD BEEN MAKING A SPECIAL POINT OF THAT AS A RESULT OF THE EARLIER OCCURRENCES. I FELT THE ENGINE SPEED UP, BUT THE CAR DID NOT MOVE. THE SECOND OCCASION WAS ON MARCH 29TH WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND HAD STOPPED AT A FOUR-WAY STOP. I WAS WAITING FOR A PEDESTRIAN (WALKING A DOG) WHO WAS CROSSING THE ROAD ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE FROM WHERE I WAS STOPPED. I DO NOT HAVE A FIRM RECOLLECTION OF EXACTLY WHERE MY RIGHT FOOT WAS POSITIONED, BUT IT CERTAINLY WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. SUDDENLY THE CAR ACCELERATED, HEADING TOWARD THE PEDESTRIAN. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID HITTING HER BY MAKING A SHARP RIGHT TURN INTO THE CROSS STREET AND THEN BRINGING THE CAR TO A STOP. THE THIRD OCCASION WAS ON APRIL 5TH. IN ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE CAR IN A LOT NEAR A GROCERY STORE, I TURNED THE CAR INTO AN EMPTY PARKING SPACE. I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL GENTLY TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP AT THE CURB ON A MEDIAN STRIP THAT SEPARATED MY PARKING AREA FROM A SIMILAR ONE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MEDIAN. ON OR ABOUT THE ABOVE DATE OF APRIL 15, 2015 I WASHED MY 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY AT A LOCAL CAR WASH USING THEIR AUTOMATED HIGH PRESSURE WASH AND WAX. A FEW DAYS AFTERWARD I REALIZED THE CENTER TRUNK AREA, THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE, HELD 2 TO 3 INCHES OF WATER, AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRUNK ALSO HAD WATER. I HAVE READ POST AFTER POST ONLINE STATING MANY OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND SOME HAVE STATED THE REAR WINDOW AND BODY PANELS WERE NOT SECURELY SEALED FROM THE OUTSIDE ELEMENTS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ASSEMBLED AT THE FACTORY. IN JUNE OF 2014 WATER WAS GETTING INSIDE ON THE CARPET ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SOAKING THE CARPET COMPLETELY. ON SUNDAY, MAY 18, 2014, I STARTED MY 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY AND MY CHECK ENGINE AND VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS WERE ON. I HAD NO PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH THE CAR. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY MORNING TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, THE FIRST ONE I COULD GET WAS JUST OVER A WEEK AWAY. I QUESTIONED THE DEALERSHIP IF MY CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY SAID YES, AS LONG AS THE VSC LIGHT WASN'T BLINKING. MY CAR WAS CHECKED BY THE DEALERSHIP ON MAY 27. I WAS TOLD MY BRAKE ACTUATOR HAD GONE OUT AND THE REPAIRS WERE AROUND $2,400 BEFORE TAXES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FROM A CHARCOAL CANISTER THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, ANOTHER $500+. THE PARTS HAD TO BE ORDERED AND IT WAS MAY 30 WHEN MY CAR WAS READY. WHEN QUESTIONING THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT WHY MY BRAKE ACTUATOR HAD GONE OUT, THEY ASSURED ME THAT IT WAS NOTHING I HAD DONE AND THEY SAID THEY'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH OTHERS GOING OUT. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND THAT OTHER MODELS BY TOYOTA HAVE HAD RECALLS FOR THE BRAKE ACTUATOR. IF THE COMPANY IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME PIECE OF EQUIPMENT IN OTHER MODELS, THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED. MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT IT WAS FAULTY AND FAILED. AFTER SEARCHING, I ALSO FOUND THERE HAVE BEEN VARIOUS ISSUES WITH THE CHARCOAL CANISTER AS WELL IN VARIOUS MODELS BY THE COMPANY. PERHAPS RESEARCH SHOULD BE DONE ON THIS ISSUE ALSO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY ROUGH AND ABNORMAL FORCE HAD TO BE USED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN ANY DIRECTION. THE CONTACT WAS LATER DRIVING AND APPLIED THE BRAKES WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC STOP. THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE ANKLE AND BACK, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. MY CAR WAS CONSUMING OIL. AFTER EACH OIL CHANGE FOR THE PAST YEAR THE OIL IN MY ENGINE WOULD DISAPPEAR. I TOOK THE CAR BACK THREE TIMES COMPLAINING ABOUT THE OIL DISAPPEARING. EACH TIME, THEY WOULD TOP IT OFF WITH OIL AND TELL ME TO DRIVE IT FOR 1000 MILES AND BRING IT BACK. FINALLY, THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE MY CAR AND AN INSPECTOR WOULD COME OUT FROM TOYOTA TO MAKE A DETERMINATION IF MY ENGINE COULD BE REPAIRED OR IF IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE DECISION WAS MADE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT IF MY CAR HAD NOT BEEN CERTIFIED, THE COST WOULD BE MINE. THEY PAID FOR IT. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2010 CAMRY LE (4 CYLINDER), AND IT HAS ALREADY BEEN THROUGH THE SET OF FACTORY-INSTALLED TIRES, ANOTHER SET OF FOUR MICHELIN TIRES, A THIRD SET OF FOUR, AND 2 MORE TIRES AS OF 10/27/2013, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE ONLY NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000 MILES ON IT. THE TIRES CURIOUSLY GO UNIFORMLY BALD ON THE FRONT IN LESS THAN 1/3RD OF THE LIFE OF THE TIRE. EACH COMPANY FROM WHICH I HAVE PURCHASED NEW MICHELIN OR BFGOODRICH TIRES FOR THIS CAMRY SAID THIS IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL. THEY STATED THAT THE TIRES SHOULD NOT ORDINARILY BE UNIFORMLY BALD OR BE WORN OUT SO QUICKLY. THEY HAVE ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MUST HAVE COME OUT OF THE FACTORY ALIGNED THIS WAY, SINCE THE FIRST PAIR WAS USELESS AFTER SO FEW MILES AND THE NEW TIRES ARE WEARING OUT SO QUICKLY. MOREOVER, THERE ARE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE AC SYSTEM CONTROLS AND THE SENSOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW. THE AC MYSTERIOUSLY TURNS ITS RECYCLED AIR SWITCH FROM RECYCLED TO VENT (WITHOUT BEING PRESSED TO MAKE THE SWITCH) WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW WILL GO NEARLY ALL THE WAY UP (WHEN PRESSED), BUT IT STOPS SHORT OF THE TOP AND THEN ROLLS ITSELF BACK DOWN. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT ROBBIN'S TOYOTA SAID HIS MECHANICS COULD NOT GET THESE PROBLEMS TO RE-OCCUR WHEN DRIVEN, AND THEREFORE, HE COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT FIX THE TWO ISSUES, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME. I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH MY CAMRY BOUNCING, SWAYING, PULLING LEFT AND RIGHT, THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION OR AXLES SHAKE. IT FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE PULSING OR ON AT RANDOM TIMES. I BELIEVE THERE ARE SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS CAR AND TOYOTA IS NOT REPORTING THE PROBLEMS. EVERY TIME I TURN ON THE HEATING SYSTEM OF MY TOYOTA CAMRY, I GET THIS FOUL SULFUR SMELL COMING FROM THE VENTS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY THEY RAN TESTS ON IT BUT SINCE THEY CAN'T REPRODUCE THE SMELL THERE'S NOTHING TO DO. THUS FAR TOYOTA HAS WRITTEN IT OFF TO THE SULFUR LEVELS IN THE FUEL, YET I OWN A TOYOTA COROLLA AS WELL AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS EXPERIENCE. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THAT THE SMELL HAPPENS AFTER THE FUEL IS BURNED AND PASSED THROUGH THE CATALYST CONVERTER, BUT I'M WORRIED THAT SEPARATE SYSTEMS -- THE HEATING AND THE PROCESS OF BURNING FUEL -- CROSS TOGETHER TO BRING THAT SMELL INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. ON FRIDAY, 25 MARCH, 2011 AT ABOUT 4 PM, MY WIFE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN DECELERATION EVENT ON OUR 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY. SHE MADE A RIGHT TURN & IN ABOUT A HALF MILE, THE CAMRY SUDDENLY SLOWED TO LESS THAN 10 MPH FROM ABOUT 40 MPH. SHE PULLED INTO THE FIRST PARKING LOT TO THE RIGHT AND SHUT OFF THE CAMRY. SHE SAID NO MATTER HOW MUCH SHE PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR WAS NOT RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR. SHE SAID THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS WERE ON. SHE TRIED RESTARTING THE CAR AND DROVE A LITTLE IN THE PARKING LOT, THE 2 DASH LIGHTS WERE ON, BUT IT WAS DRIVING OK. SHE DROVE THE CAR SLOWLY APPROXIMATELY 5 MORE MILES TO OUR HOME. I ARRIVED SOON & I CHECKED THE CODES WITH MY DIAGNOSTIC TOOL, AND THE ECU WAS SHOWING AN ACTIVE P0121 (THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR A, CIRCUIT RANGE PERFORMANCE). SO WE DROVE THE CAR SLOWLY TO ATLANTA TOYOTA, 2345 PLEASANT HILL ROAD, DULUTH, GA 30096. DURING THE DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE DASH LIGHTS WENT OFF. I REPORTED THE CODE P0121 TO THE SERVICE REP, AND THE DRIVING SYMPTOMS. THE NEXT DAY (SATURDAY, 26 MARCH 2011) ATLANTA TOYOTA CALLED ME REPORTING THAT THERE WERE NO CODES IN THE ECU. I REPEATED THE CODE THAT I HAD READ. THE REP STATED THEY WOULD CHECK AGAIN. AGAIN ATLANTA TOYOTA CALLED ME, STATING NO CODES FOUND, AND THEY HAD TEST DRIVEN THE CAR AND COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY DID REPLACE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY. ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP I NOTICED THAT THE CLOCK TIME HAD CHANGED ABOUT 30 MINUTES, AND ALL THE RADIO PRESETS WERE GONE, AS IF THE BATTERY HAD BEEN DISCONNECTED.I INQUIRED AND THE DEALERSHIP REP SAID THE BATTERY HAD NOT BEEN TOUCHED.MY CONCERN IS THIS TOYOTA MAY HAVE REPROGRAMMED MY CAR DUE TO THE SUDDEN DECELERATION ISSUE, (HENCE THE CLOCK & RADIO CHANGES), AND THEY ARE NOT BEING FORTHCOMING REGARDING REPAIRS. IT WAS REPEATEDLY FIXED WITH NO SUCCESS. THE PROBLEM FELL DOWN TO A FIRMWARE ERROR, ON WHICH THE SOFTWARE WAS RUNNING. THE FIRMWARE LOGIC CODE WAS A THIRD PARTY PROVISION TO THE SYSTEM, AND NONE OF THE ENGINEERS HAD REAL ACCESS TO THE LOGIC CIRCUITRY. THE FIRMWARE TESTED FINE, AND RAN THE TEST CODE AS WELL, WITH NO ERRORS. IT WASN'T UNTIL THE SYSTEM WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL, THAT THE SYSTEM THREW THE ERRORS. SINCE IT WAS THE FIRMWARE THAT THREW THE ERRORS, NONE OF THE SENSORS OR ANY OF THE SYSTEM LOGS CAUGHT THE PROBLEM. THE VENDOR OF THE FIRMWARE "ASSUMED" IT WAS ALWAYS THE USER CODE "THE OEM" THAT WAS AT FAULT, AND ANY LOG WAS AIMED AT MONITORING THE SOFTWARE EXECUTION, AND NOT THE FIRMWARE PROCESSING. IN WATCHING THE MAJOR AUTO MANUFACTURER COME TO HIS KNEES, IT STRUCK ME AS TO HOW SIMILAR, THE SITUATION SEEMS IN THIS CASE, TO WHAT WE EXPERIENCED, IN THE AIR FORCE. AND IF THE CAR RUNS AS PER DESIGN, THEN THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG IN THE DESIGN ITSELF. I KNEW IN ADVANCE THAT TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT GOING TO WORK.
