On multiple occasions the doors have Locked or Unlocked automatically while driving. This puts my children at risk not knowing if doors will stay locked while driving. The problem has not been looked at a dealer. I doubt they could reproduce it being so random and infrequent. There were not any warning lamps or messages.

Only the driver side door unlocks. Started with rear driver side door. Now only driver side door unlocks with key fob. Replaced battery and had fob program still same issue.

Battery was replaced 6 months ago due to being old, however, on Sept 19,2024 the car was completely dead after 4 days of no driving. Jumped by AAA and taken to dealer. Dealer reported on Sept 20 no issue with battery and no idea what could be draining th battery. Told me I don’t drive it enough even though I just came back from a high mileage vacation and drove it for over 1 hour each way four days prior and two days before that. Told me I need to run for 30 min every other day even if it is just keep it idle in garage. Prior to this battery change I had no such issue letting it sit for days and not start. There seems to be an issue with this year of Camry that is going unaddressed by Toyota and needs a remedy other than drive your car more often as well as being told to buy a maintainer/charger to keep battery charged as told by the tech. This is a widespread problem that needs to be fixed or made right by the company especially when car is under warranty.

The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor was defective and failed to recognize when the seat was empty. The contact stated that the failure initially occurred with the front passenger’s seat; however, the rear seats also experienced the failure. The contact had to restart the vehicle or fasten all seat belts to prevent the seat belt chime from activating. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V865000 (Air Bags); and linked the failure to the recall. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

This was a recall due to the coolant valve Thursday, my vehicle had went in for the recall I picked up my vehicle Friday morning I checked to make sure the part that they have changed nothing wrong with it or not. When I looked at the part a day after I noticed pink stuff is leaking from around it this was announced by Toyota This is the New part they had just made I’m assuming and it is still leaking I have a 2020 Toyota Camry. With 141,000 miles. And now I am having issues. Toyota needs to redesign this piece or have a further investigation on it.

Constant "ENGINE MAINTENANCE REQUIRED" warning. Dealer identified the engine coolant bypass valve as the source of the problem. Replacing the part resolved the issue.

Door Lock Actuators failed on all doors. At times they don't unlock or don't lock. Toyota informed not covered under Warranty, No Recall or Campaign Notice. For the safety of myself and family I had them replaced at a mechanic. My truck lock is also faulty but not replaced. This started in May 2023 with one lock and again in December of 2024 with the other 3 locks.

While driving on an open road (no overpasses, tall buildings or objects overhead) my moon roof glass exploded. I did not hear any warning signs and did not have vehicles in front of me for it to be a kicked up rock. Glass rained down in the car.

My car has had no incidents. I was told by customer service to file a complaint that there is no remedy for this issue. I gain income from renting this car on Turo. While there is an active recall, I am not able to use this car for income, it is removed from the qualification list for car rentals. I am told by the dealership that there is no remedy expected until 2026 for this vehicle. I cannot lose two years worth of income waiting for this solution. I had my car inspected at the dealership and was told that my sensor was not faulty and do not need a resolution. Is there any way that I can receive documentation from NHTSA showing that my vehicle is safe to rent out and has been inspected and cleared from Toyota? I appreciate your assistance in this matter.

engine coolant bypass valve 'a' control circuit/open: circuit short to battery or open I honestly feel like this is not safe. If you’re driving your engine could possibly overheat or it can crack the engine block and several different others I’m not a familiar mechanic this code just popped up My car is running a bit funny I would say that’s what made me do the scan in the first place Nobody has looked at it. I used a code scanner. I cleared the code and then I re-scanned it, and it was still there. Just for a future note, this is for a 2020 Toyota Corolla at 141,000 miles I have seen where the Toyota Corolla is having the same issue several different people at that so I do think they need to have a open investigation about this issue because it is an outgoing issue

the vehicle will randomly shut down and it is due to the fuel pump or fuel pump sensor being faulty. It will shut down in the middle of driving which is a hazard and can lead to a car crash

On December 31, 2001, I was driving 2020 Toyota Camry LE at 20mph and the engine stalled. I kept pressing the gas but my vehicle wouldn't go. The check engine light was also on so we took it to a local shop where they mentioned the Toyota fuel pump recall. We then took it to a local Toyota dealer where they said my specific Camry was not included in the recall and I had to pay $1, 655.69 for a new fuel pump to be installed. My car exhibited the same systems as described in the fuel pump recall therefore I believe my car should be included in the recall and I should be reimbursed.

Having same issue as NHTSA Campaign ID: 20V682000 Fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealer won't fix because they can't get it to duplicate issue. Multiple codes showing fuel pump P12B501, P107B.

The high pressure fuel pump line suddenly ruptured at the high pressure fuel pump. This happened without warning and spewed fuel all over the engine compartment and onto the exhaust system that comes out just below the engine. It started a small fire on the engine exhaust pipe as I hurried to a mechanic across the intersection. Luckily I was able to turn off the car and avoid damage. The repair required a new high-pressure fuel pump as well as a line that runs into the pump. I kept the original parts - the mechanics state that the replacement fuel line was different than the one removed from the vehicle in the shape of the line connector to the fuel pump. I was told by Toyota that my car was NOT under recall despite there being fuel pump recalls for similar vehicles.

2020 Toyota Camry 8 speed transmission hesitant and jerking This has led to me being unable to avoid accidents. It is unsafe to accelerate to avoid bad situations. Car has been back to Toyota and they can’t find the cause of the issue but have been able to reproduce it.

Transmission failed on a major parkway. A loud noise was heard and engine over-revved. Car started to vibrate and no forward gears worked. I had to drift across two lanes of a coming high speed traffic with no drive power. I eventually got to the side of the road. I put my hazards in as soon as it happened. The vehicle was towed to the location from which it was purchased new in 2020, and serviced at all intervals. The dealership has changed ownership and is now Ourisman Toyota of Richmond. They ran a diagnostic and confirmed that the transmission has failed. There were no warning lamps, however the day prior I noticed the transmission shifting seemed off. I made an appointment to take the car in for checking at the earliest available date. However the failure occurred two days before this date.the car’s mileage is just under 85k. We purchased a 6yr 75k VSP warranty however it has expired by mileage. Car is still financed by Toyota financing. Problem has been reported to Toyota Brand engagement center and has been escalated. We have not received a resolution yet and the case is still in queue after 3 business days:

AFTER 2 DAYS PARKED IN GARAGE WITH LIGHTS OFF AND DOORS CLOSED THE CAR WOULDN'T START. AFTER JUMP STARING THE CAR IN THE SCREEN IN THE DASHBOARD A VIDEO WAS PLAYING STATING THAT AN ELECTRONIC BOARD IS AFFECTING THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. THE CAR HAS JUST 15,500 MILES. IN MARCH 2020 THE SAME HAPPEN. DEALER SAID WAS FIXED. I TALKED TO TOYOTA (JEFFREY) COMPANY AND HE SAID THERE IS NO RECALL OR SOFTWARE UPGRADE.

TWICE RECENTLY 2020 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH LESS THAN 8,000 MILES ON IT WOULD NOT START AFTER BEING PARKED IN A GARAGE. IN BOTH CASES, WE CHARGED THE BATTERY AND CAR STARTED RIGHT AWAY. NO DOORS WERE LEFT OPEN, NO LIGHTS ON, ETC. WHAT IS CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN AFTER A DAY OR TWO NOT BEING DRIVEN? MY OLDER TOYOTA WITH 150,000 IS MORE RELIABLE, SADLY. HAVE READ ABOUT A BATTERY DRAIN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR, BUT TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. SEEMS LIKE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I PURCHASED MY CAMRY IN OCTOBER. WHEN STARTING IT UP IN THE MORNING FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS THERE WAS A SLIGHT HESITATION. I ATTRIBUTED THE ISSUE TO THE COLD TEMPERATURES AND ALLOWED THE CAR TO WARM UP BEFORE DRIVING. YESTERDAY AFTERNOON MY CAR WOULDN'T START AT ALL. IT MAKES A CLICKING AND RATTLING NOISE SIMILAR TO AN OLD CLUNKER. I WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. I CALLED THE BROWN'S TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED THERE. THEY WERE CLOSING AT 4P AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CHECK OUT THE CAR UNTIL MONDAY. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A LOANER CAR UPFRONT AND BE REIMBURSED IF IT WAS DETERMINED THAT I DIDN'T CAUSE THE CAR NOT TO START. SO RIDICULOUS. I SHOULDN'T HAVE THIS ISSUE WITH A BRAND NEW CAR. FROM THE LOOKS OF IT READING THROUGH THESE OTHER REPORTS THERE'S A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE 2020 TOYOTA CAMRY.

I was driving down the road and heard a loud explosion. It sounded like it came from the moonroof. I opened the sunshade and saw that the entire front section of the panaramic moonroof had exploded for no apparent reason. 48°F, overcast, no bridges, no trees, no vehicles in front of me, no flying debris. Car is 6 months old and has 6500 miles on it. I went to the nearest auto store and bought duct tape to secure the remaining glass and then drove to the nearest Toyota dealer.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD GUNSHOT SOUND AND ALL THE SUDDEN GLASS RAINED DOWN ON ME AND INTO MY CAR. MY SUNROOF EXPLODED OUT OF NOWHERE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO WRECK BECAUSE I SHUT MY EYES AND SWERVED. ALSO, THANK GOODNESS MY DAUGHTER WASN'T IN THE BACK SEAT OR SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED.

I was going down the road and suddenly my brakes locked up. I had no control of my car and I hit a telephone pole at 60 mph. I had the car towed to a Toyota repair shop and days later the guy told me it had been wrecked before. I was not told this by the dealership and nothing showed up on the car through CARFAX. The dealership had replaced 2 batteries within 7 months and I had taken it to the dealership because of the noise in the front end, later to be told it was due to the wreckage that was not fixed previously. I am now being told my Camry is being totaled.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER STADIUM TOYOTA (5088 N DALE MABRY HWY, TAMPA, FL 33614, (813) 872-4881), TOYOTA OF TAMPA BAY (1101 E FLETCHER AVE, TAMPA, FL 33612, (813) 402-1323) AND WESLEY CHAPEL TOYOTA (5300 EAGLESTON BLVD, WESLEY CHAPEL, FL 33544, (813) 703-1759) HOWEVER, THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000.

I ALREADY HAVE A COMPLAINT NUMBER 11342422. I HAVE STUDIED THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM FURTHER AND I THINK I HAVE IDENTIFIED 2 PLACES OF SAFETY CONCERN. IN NORMAL MODE, SINCE I CAN PUSH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, MY INTERPRETATION IS THAT THE RESERVOIR CAN ACCEPT ALL OF THE ADDITIONAL FLUID BEING PUMPED. IT ALSO TELLS ME THAT THE FINAL FORCE ON THE BRAKE PADS WILL BE WHATEVER THE RESISTANCE THE SPRING IN THE RESERVOIR HAS. SO I DON'T HAVE FINAL CONTROL OVER THE BRAKING EVEN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. THE OTHER CONDITION THAT CONCERNS ME IS THE LAST DIAGRAM WHEN THE PUMP IS INTENSIFYING THE BRAKING FORCE. NOW THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER PATH FOR SOME OF THIS PUMPED FLUID TO RETURN TO THE INPUT SIDE OF THE PUMP. IF THE LEAKAGE PATH HAD NO RESISTANCE THEN THE PUMP COULD BE RECIRCULATING ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID RESULTING IN NO BRAKING. I HOPE THAT THE LEAKAGE PATH HAS ENOUGH RESISTANCE THAT A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID IS ENDING UP AT THE BRAKE PADS. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS IMPACTING MY CAR BUT I THINK IT'S A RISK TO ALL CARS WITH ABS. WHAT REALLY BOTHERS ME IS THAT I HAVE TALKED TO SERVICE MANAGERS OF 3 CAR DEALERS AND THEY ALL CLAIM THAT BEING ABLE TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR IS NORMAL. I DON'T THINK IT IS NORMAL AND IT ALSO DOESN'T APPLY TO ALL CARS. MY WIFE'S CAR BRAKES DON'T DO THIS. IT SEEMS AS IF THERE IS AN INDUSTRY WIDE FOCUS TO COVER UP THIS PROBLEM. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN GET ACCESS TO ABS ENGINEERS TO REALLY UNDERSTAND THIS ISSUE. THANK YOU.

I CAN STILL DRIVE THE CAR BUT WHAT I THINK IS DEFECTIVE IS THAT, WITH THE CAR PARKED, I CAN PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THERE ARE NO LEAKS OF BRAKE FLUID SO IT MUST BE GOING INTO THE ANTILLOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THERE MUST BE AN INTERNAL LEAK WITHIN THE ABS AND I'M CONCERNED THAT MIGHT AFFECT IT'S FUNCTIONALITY.

Low pressure fuel pump defective. Engine dies and/or surges under load at cruise speeds, sometimes dies at idle. Engine shuts down merging onto highway. Occupant(s) could be hit when pulling out into traffic if engine dies. Problem has been reproduced. Dealership said fuel pump is not covered under previous recall, but Toyota has a TSB stating the VIN# is in the TSB range for the above mentioned concerns. No DTC's are set, no messages set.

Incident: Just driving along when all of a sudden, the car engine turned off and check engine light came on along with warnings about brake system failures, fuels system failures and message to contact your dealer. Any attempts to restart the car failed. The vehicle was a 2020 toyota camry xse with 75000 miles. The vehicle was inoperable. CAUSE: There is a small air intake resonator box that connects to the air flow between the air filter compartment and the throttle. This resonator is made of plastic and the part that connects to the airflow main tube, had cracked and broken off and the broken piece got stuck in the throttle causing the vehicle to become disabled. This part is never touched when performing air filter maintenance and it was determined that over time, it just cracked and eventually broke off. This is a defect in the design and if this had happened at highway speeds could have had serious consequences.

Fuel pump failure 1st. Car immediately stopped while driving on main road almost causing collision, engine light appeared only. Car had been inspected by local repair codes identify fuel pump malfunction. Fuel pump was replaced . Car was driven less than 5 minutes and overheated. Overheating light on dashboard , exclamation light and engine light appeared. reason is still yet unknown.

My 2020 Camry has been nothing but a problem and Toyota is noncompliant with helping me. The service recall for the fuel pump was fixed at Vaughn Toyota in Bastrop La .. a week later I still had the same issues. They refused to put another fuel pump on my car even thought the fuel pump had a one year warranty. I then took it to Landers in Little Rock and since I had “codes” I had to pay $180 diagnostic fee. Fast forward to now, still have the same crappy fuel pump. I took it to Ryburn Toyota and was told to replace the charcoal canister and vent valve . That was $1000. Problem not fixed. All my lights stay on, I often get a charging system error notification. It goes into reduced power mode. And has left me stranded numerous times on the side of the road. I want whatever is wrong with my car fixed. I have never owned a vehicle with this many problems. I thought Toyota’s were good vehicles but I promise if I ever get rid of this one, I will not purchase another Toyota vehicle again.

When I press the button to start my 2020 Camry it has difficulty starting. It chugs/lags. It also smells of coolant/antifreeze when this happens. It has done this since the day I leased it. I have taken the vehicle back to the dealership 3 times and each time I’m told that they hooked it up to their computer and can’t find anything wrong and they can’t replicate the problem. I have had several witnesses/passengers inside and outside my vehicle who have heard the starting issue and commented on coolant smell. To date, my vehicle only has 7000 miles on it.

Several times when I was driving without cruise control down the hill from our home, the car's automatic brake turned on when I passed another car. The car incorrectly sensed that I was going to hit or be hit by the passing car and the automatic emergency brake turned on. Nothing happened except I was startled and puzzled. While driving the Camry at 45 mph among the flow of traffic on a state highway in Florida, out of the blue the vehicle's speedometer on the instrument cluster was replaced with a flashing red box and the brakes applied themselves fully with no command or input given whatsoever. The Camry immediately screeched to a stop in the middle of the road within a couple seconds, causing the vehicle behind me to slam into the Camry at full speed. There were no other vehicles or obstacles ahead of me at all, this fact was also observed by witnesses. The automation had triggered for no apparent reason, overriding my control of the Camry and stopping it in the middle of a major highway, causing the accident. Despite the intensity of the crash, the air bags of the vehicle failed to deploy in the impact, worsening the severity of my injuries. Both the Camry and the other motorist's car were rendered inoperable and totaled in the accident, they had to be towed from the scene. The police ruled the cause of the accident to be vehicular malfunction of the Camry.

Front bumper and side view mirror cover (passenger side) have been badly deformed with in past few months and getting worse for a vehicle which is still under warranty (~2 year old and under 36,000 miles). Side view mirror cover (driver side) has also started to deform. Side view mirror cover (passenger side) has been deformed to an extent that a slight hand touch or push detaches it from the vehicle body which means it can become falling or flying object when vehicle is in motion and cause safety hazard. Parts are available for inspection (pictures are also attached). I claimed the manufacturer warranty through a local Toyota dealership and after sending me from one dealership to another, my warranty claim was denied based on the reason that deformation is possibly due to heat reflection which is an outside influence. Other than taking pictures, dealership and manufacturer have not tried to replicate the failure of parts. Dealership & Manufacturer have also failed to rule out any safety issues due to deformed components. As a Toyota customer and vehicle owner, I am highly concerned about (1) If front bumper will function under deformed conditions as it is designed to function and will not cause any safety issues to the vehicle and its occupants (2) Deformed components (One of side view mirror is already started to detach) will not completely detach and become safety hazard. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate this matter which looks like a product failure and should be covered under manufacturer warranty or recall.

THE DAY WAS PARTLY CLOUDY. THE LOCATION WAS MARYLAND. THE VEHICLE WAS A NEW 2020 TOYOTA CAMRY SE 4DOOR. WHILE DRIVING WITH MY SUNROOF EXTERIOR FLAT GLASS AND INTERIOR DOOR ASSEMBLY BOTH COMPLETELY CLOSED, MY DAUGHTER AND I SUDDENLY HEARD A BOOM EXPLOSION. WHILE DRIVING TRYING TO SAFELY EXIT, HUGE BLACK CHUNKS WERE FLYING BEHIND US, THAT WAS LATER IDENTIFIED AS BROKEN SUNROOF GLASS FLYING BEHIND US HITTING THE VEHICLES TRAVELING BEHIND US. WE PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. WE DISCOVERED THAT MY VEHICLE'S SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. INSTEAD OF THE REMAINING BROKEN SUNROOF GLASS EDGES EXHIBITING A CONCAVE DOWNWARD APPEARANCE, THE REMAINING SHATTERED GLASS EXHIBITED A CONVEX OUTWARD APPEARANCE INDICATING AN EXPLOSION HAD OCCURRED. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MARYLAND TOYOTA DEALER FOR HELP AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WASN'T PURCHASED FROM THEIR DEALERSHIP THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. The tire size is 215/55R17. Within a span of 10 months, THREE of my tires have needed to be replaced, with one of them almost causing me a very serious car accident. The issue appears to be with the sidewall failing. The first time this happened was in September of 2021. I brought the defective tire to a local Bridgestone retail center and my complaint/concerns were completely dismissed by the in-store employee and corporate. The employee contacted corporate on the phone and was told there were no recalls on my Specific tires. The employee insisted that because there was no current “recall,” my tire was not defective. He also stated that I should “trust him” because he’s “been in the business for 25+ years”. Even though there was NO nail or sharp object found, Bridgestone had insisted that I must have ran over something. Relying on their knowledge and response in this matter, I went ahead and purchased the same exact tire at BJs wholesale club. ( I even took the tire to Toyota for inspection and they couldn’t find anything lodged in the tire or evidence to indicate that I ran over any object. They were completely baffled.) Approximately 2 months ago, a second tire had a very similar issue occur out of nowhere. It happened when I was not even a five minute drive from my house. Yet again, the issue was with the sidewall. The tire was damaged beyond repair and I had to get the “donut” put on so that I could drive my car to a tire center to purchase a new tire. Then (not even two weeks later) a different tire went flat in the same exact manner. This incident happened within less than 10 minutes from my house. Nothing appeared to have pierced my tire. I even returned to the area where it went flat and found no evidence of possible road hazards or sharp objects. The rips were located in multiple areas of the tire. This time the damage was much worse and once again the tire was damaged beyond repair. I am fully convinced the tires are defective.

On 6/22/22 around 6:30 pm, the front passenger tire blew out. The tire in question came with the vehicle upon purchasing new on 5/14/20. There is currently about 13,300 miles on the car. Luckily my oldest son was driving and was able to maneuver into a safe place and put on the donut spare. Car had to be driven by son today with donut spare on and will take pictures of subject tires when he gets back home.

Description of the Problem: On May 19, 2025, the steering wheel intermediate shaft or column of my 2020 Toyota Camry LE Hybrid began to malfunction. The steering became unexpectedly hard and stuck, significantly affecting my ability to safely control the vehicle. This problem occurs intermittently but poses a serious safety risk as it can happen while the vehicle is in motion, especially during turns or lane changes. •The affected component is the steering column/intermediate shaft, and it is available for inspection upon request. •This malfunction put my safety and the safety of others at risk, as it limited my ability to steer accurately and could potentially result in a collision, especially in emergency or high-speed situations. •At this time, the issue has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a Toyota dealership or an independent service center, but I am in the process of scheduling an inspection. •The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, or other parties, but I am prepared to provide access to the vehicle for a thorough inspection. •There were no warning lamps, error messages, or advance symptoms before the failure. The issue appeared suddenly on May 19, 2025, without any prior signs or indicators.

My 2020 Toyota Camry SE suffered a sudden and premature transmission failure at only 114,000 miles. I am a college student and I cannot afford a major repair like this on top of my monthly car payment. The car began showing hesitation and sluggish acceleration on cold starts for a few months, but then suddenly went into limp mode with the Check Engine and Traction Control lights on. The screen displayed a warning saying ‘Malfunction in the electronic control of the engine/throttle/transmission.’ The vehicle became unsafe to drive because it would barely accelerate. If this had happened while I was merging onto a highway, it could have caused an accident. Lakeland Toyota told me the transmission has ‘internal failure’ and quoted me over $8,000 for a replacement. They did not provide detailed diagnostic codes or open the transmission to confirm the mechanical failure — they just saw a code and declared it dead. As a student with limited income, this puts me in a terrible financial situation. I still owe monthly payments on this car and now cannot even drive it. After researching online, I learned that MANY 2018–2020 Camry owners are experiencing similar transmission problems (UA80/UA80E), including hesitation, shuddering, harsh shifting, and early failure. Some owners have reported full transmission failure under 100k miles. There is even a public petition documenting these issues. This appears to be a PATTERN, not an isolated case. A transmission should NOT fail this early on a Toyota, and this sudden loss of power poses a serious safety risk. The vehicle is currently at a transmission specialist for a second opinion, but this may become a widespread issue affecting thousands of Camry owners. I am asking NHTSA to investigate the 2018–2020 Camry transmission problems before more drivers experience unexpected failures in traffic

Started vehicle and went to back up. Car slammed into reverse and disply showed Drive start control malfunction. The service engine light came on. I removed the battery to reset the error message and the following dayi took it to the dealership. They checked it out and told me that they didnt find anything wrong with it since it wasnt displaying a service engine light. So i went home with it. The next day it did it again so i took it back to them while the condition was happening. Which insisted of the error message, serv eng light, gearshift indicator displaying drive and park at the same time. Also the door locks were continually locking and unlocking. They put a new water valve plus a neut switch assy and a new xmission lever in it and told me it was fixed. I picked it up and the next day it did it again. Returned it to them and they said that the new part was possibly bad from Toyota, ordered a new one, put it in and said it was all good now. I picked car up and 9 months later its happening again. Not sure what to do. Please help

Incident Highway Malfunction Occurs – [XXX] While driving at a steady speed on the highway, my 2020 Toyota Camry unexpectedly shifted gears on its own. I did not bump the gear shifter or interact with the controls in any abnormal way. The gear shift occurred without warning or driver input, while the vehicle was in motion. A “Drive Start Control Malfunction” warning appeared on the dashboard at the time of the incident. Vehicle Towed to Toyota Service Center – July 11 2025 Following the incident, I brought the car to a Toyota dealership for diagnosis and repair. I spoke with a service advisor named Rebecca, explained the situation, and clearly stated that I did not hit or touch the gear. The vehicle was kept for inspection, repair and I communicatied with Toyota. Vehicle Picked Up – July 16, 2025 I picked up my car from the Toyota dealership on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. I had not yet heard back from Toyota about coverage or resolution. I chose to wait for further communication regarding whether they would take responsibility for the malfunction. Toyota Corporate Follow-Up Call – July 23, 2025 On Tuesday, July 23, 2025, Toyota corporate called to inform me that the repair would not be covered, citing that the vehicle is out of warranty. What disturbed me most was that the representative claimed I had told Rebecca that I might have “bumped the gear,” which is completely false. I made it clear from the beginning that I never touched the gear shifter, and that the malfunction occurred while I was driving normally. This false statement was either a miscommunication or a lie — and it minimizes the seriousness of a potential safety defect. Response to Toyota’s Misrepresentation – July 23, 2025 During the call, I told Toyota that misrepresenting my account was unacceptable and dangerous. If Toyota is aware that this vehicle model may experience uncommanded gear changes while in motion and fails to report. This vehicle, and models with the same throttle body and air filter/air duct assembly have an issue. Where plastic parts from the vacuum box attached to the air duct come loose and get stuck in the throttle body. Causing the engine to rev up then die. I have dealt with this same issue twice in the last three weeks. Thank you for your time.

I was in an accident, going about 40mph (about 30mph at time of impact), and no airbags were deployed. Police officer reported that he also did not see that the tension of the seat belt remained tense after the crash. Seems that there was a problem with both systems. The other vehicle had all their airbags deploy.

THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUFFERED INJURIES TO HER LEFT ARM, AND RECOILED STRIKING THE INSIDE OF THE RIGHT INTERIOR. THIS CAUSED HEAD TRAUMA AS WELL. WE DON'T BELIEVE THE SEAT BELT TENSIONED. PASSENGER IN THE BACK SEAT, RIGHT SIDE ALSO SUFFERED INJURY. NOT AS SEVERE AS FRONT SEAT OCCUPANTS. HE WAS THROW AROUND IN THE VEHICLE, IT IS UNKNOWN IF HIS BELTS TENSIONED. ALL 3 HAD TO BE TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE FOR INJURIES SUFFERED. IF I MANUALLY COOL THE AREA WITH COLD WATER OR PROLONGED FAN BLOWING ON THE AREA I CAN RESTART AND SAFETY SYSTEM BOOTS UP FINE. THIS CONTINUALLY HAPPENS OVER SEVERAL YEARS, AND YET STILL NO RECALL. SEVERAL DISCUSSIONS ON TOYOTA'S FORUM ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE. YET NEITHER TOYOTA OR NHTSA ARE ADDRESSING IT. If vehicle is parked in sun the front facing camera and laser located at the top of the windshield overheat then when the vehicle is started the overheated front facing camera is offline so the collision, lane depart/assist and auto dimming system will not boot so those safety features are offline and your screen with your instrument cluster is obstructed by warning messages. If you park in the shade or cool the top of your windshield with water prior to starting the processes boot normally and your safety systems are available. Problem is reoccurring if vehicle is parked in the sun.

Just bought this car in May 2024 and a few months after owning it my check engine light came on. They said the issue is with a coolant bypass valve and the issue is common with Toyota’s like mine. There is currently no recall, warranty is fighting me to fix it and the repairs will cost me over $700! Toyota needs to recall for this issue

As I was driving Monday morning August 16 2021, Check engine light and chip failure light showed up. When shifting the vehicle in reverse, but it showed in drive. Took the car to Toyota dealer, and diagnosis reveals "Vehicle has green death in connections to shift indicator. This problem costing $4,585.25 to fix the problem.

I had a feeling sick while driving my car. I placed a smoke and carbon monoxide detector in the cabin. The detector went off. I tried different things windows up windows down, recuperate open and close and detector alarmed. I brought my car to Doggett Toyota they found a leak in engine that was running to exhaust. I paid for $117 for estimate and $337 for part. The service department is pressing me to let them use my carbon monoxide detector. I refuse. When I went pick up the car fumes plus soap smell is still in the car. Detector still alarm 229ppm.They only offer to rent a ccar which I cannot drive because of health reasons. Other 2020 are carmys are recalled because oil leak and possibly damage to engine block. I requested my car be examined for the same problems as recall. The service department says I need ask corporate to send there own mechanic and I pay for it. Hours of run around miscommunication. That car is not safe to drive. Dealership doesn't have carbon monoxide detector or means to detect the smoke in the cabin. Service members all over the place, texting on cell phone, walking away while on phone with corporate etc.

First time went to get in my vehicle and the car would not even open, not even the trunk. Had been parked over night. The car was deader than a door nail. The Toyota dealer had a tow truck dispatched to me with a charge box. The charge box would not even crank the vehicle. Had to use his tow truck to jump the car took to Toyota they said it needed a software update. Did it seemed fine now fast forward several months later now when it cranks doesn’t want to crank, dies then have to try again finally it crank. Took in today at dealer they tested battery said it’s showing 100% testing so not the battery then they say the update didn’t take back months ago so needs to be updated again . So now I’ve been shuttled home as it will take 2 plus hours. I’ve googled and seen so many complaints that are identical to mine and wondering why my vehicle has no recall when my vehicle has same issues apparently or I’m being lied to by the dealer cause I’ve got a complete lemon. I’ve owned many Toyota’s and never once had issues like this.

Have whining from transmission. When trying to accelerate the car does not shift into gears correctly and there is hesitance and delay. Have issues merging on highway and regular traffic due to hesitance and delay. Car can jerk when accelerating. Had dealership inspect twice at different dates. The dealership said nothing was wrong and that the hesitance and delay was just how the car operates. Discovered that other Toyota Camry's had same issue under T-SB-0008-21. Would like for our model year Toyota Camry be added for repairs.

The Airbag recall on select Toyota Camry. The manufacturer of the airbags in Japan are said to be defective. I have not received new sensors that are on back order. Seatbelt sensors continue to go off, unless they are clicked in all seats. I already had the car fixed twice, they won’t lean to fix the car again. It’s all political financially. The onboard Safety SOS may also be defective in these models.

The panoramic sunroof on my 2020 Toyota Camry XSE failed to close on two separate occasions. The most recent incident occurred about three months ago. After opening the sunroof, the glass panel would not close, leaving the vehicle fully exposed during heavy rain. I had to cover the opening with plastic and tape while standing in the rain, which caused water to enter the vehicle and led to illness from exposure. This failure poses safety risks, including: Driver distraction if the failure occurs while driving. Possible water damage to electrical components, potentially affecting vehicle operation. Reduced visibility in heavy rain. Security risks if the vehicle cannot be secured. Online research and discussions with other owners revealed that this problem appears to be relatively common with Toyota Camry models equipped with a panoramic roof. My initial repair estimate was approximately $12,000, which is unreasonable given the vehicle’s value. I ultimately had the sunroof permanently sealed shut at my own expense. I have video evidence and documentation from both incidents, including an earlier occurrence on August 29, 2020, which was reported to a Toyota dealer but dismissed at the time. I believe this should be investigated as a potential recall.

Brakes under constant pressure took longer to engage. One minute later while pulling into parking stall the brake pedal went to floor and one pump immediately after it engaged. Simultaneously, the car accelerated and jumped a curb and one foot into the landscape. Had the acceleration continued and/or the brakes not engaged the vehicle would have hit a tree in another 3'. This tree was about 18"-24" diameter. One hour later cautiously drove to Toyota dealer who performed inspection of brake system, test drove, and scanned the computer system. They found no abnormal codes for the time of the incidents. They could not replicate the issues. There were no warning indicators noticed during the incident. Scan data and incident report sent to Toyota Field Agents confirmed the described problem was not found in the system.

So a few months after installing the pedal commander chip my Camry out of nowhere began flashing warning symbols and messages and the engine was reduced to about 5% power. Pre-collision braking was down, ABS was down, lane assistance was down, cruise control was down and it also said “Engine Reduced Power”, please see dealership! So I parked, turned off the car and disconnected the battery for about 10-15 mins. When I reconnected the battery and started the car everything was fine and there were no codes/warning lights. So I thought it was a glitch. Then like 3-4 days later it did it again immobilizing me outside of a clients house to where I had to get it towed. I then thought to unplug the chip and see if that did anything and of course once I did it started up and drove fine with no codes, for about a month or so. Then it gave me all the same codes as before but now without the chip installed. Did an oil change with new filter, replaced the starter cause now it wouldn’t start at all or turn over. Once I replaced the starter, I was able to get it started and drive it a few times over the course of 3-4 weeks at the time I wasn’t driving it that much. But then all of a sudden it stops starting again and now gives me all those codes again and now my Camry has been immobilized for the past year, basically all cause of the accelerator chip.

The lock indicators that show that the LATCH safety system belts are tightened stopped working and show as locked even if it is in fact unlocked. This can lead to the this being unlocked, getting loose, and the car seat potentially moving around. This was discovered while moving the car seat from one car to another.

My car has been brought into the shop over two times due to a recall that has no yet been resolved and has no time frame as to when there will be available parts created to fix this issue. The passenger air bag is in for a recall as in case of anything, the air bag will not deploy correctly or at all. This is a major safety issue as it can cause the death of the person rising in the passenger seat. I do not feel safe driving in this car especially since my car is always a full house and it is used as a family vehicle where all 5 seats are being used at once. This is a recall that was later found on this car meaning that the car was built like that. Again, I do not feel safe as I have had family members die in a car accident before. I have asked the dealership multiple times to resolve this issue. On June 23rd 20024, I was almost in a car accident. All 5 seats were being used and we were almost hit by a car that was going over approximately 85mph. A life could have been taken if we would have been hit and the air bag would not have deployed at all or correctly. My car has been in the shop, Hanlees Hilltop Toyota since Monday June 24th. I was concerned about the airbag and again, they do not have any parts that have been created by TOYOTA manufacturer. I asked for a loaner car and they did not want to help nor provide me with one. I do not feel safe in this vehicle and the airbag not working should be considered high risk and this car should not be drivable due to this major high risk issue.

There is a current recall on my 2020 camry. I was notified by email in December 2023. It is for the passenger side air bag. I do not feel safe driving the car since being made aware of the recall. The Toyota dealership I go to has said there is nothing they can do as there is no remedy for this recall. I also have had multiple issues over the years with the sensors and battery. I bought the car brand new, with 2 miles I rolled off the lot. A few days after purchasing it my battery died. My battery died multiple times within the first few months, sensors did not work, screen display was off, Toyota said they had to reset the computer software. There was an issue draining the battery. Fast forward to November 2023, I had to buy a new battery. Even though I have had issues with the battery since purchasing the brand new car, I had to pay for the battery out of pocket. Toyota said I just barely missed the warranty. Now once again I have issues with the parking sensors not working and the rear camera display not showing. I get the notification RCD unavailable. Even though my camera is clean and was checked at the dealership. I feel as if I have bought a bad car from the start. And now I do not feel safe driving it as well as being completely frustrated with it. What can I do?

Gas tank does not open. There’s a button that you press and sounds like it’s jammed. I went through the trunk to pull the yellow handle (looked online and seen others have this issue also) and it does not work on my car. I have to have someone press the button while I use my keys to go on the side to push it open.

Car is regularly maintained, vehicle had to be what was a software or fuel supply issue. In hotter weather car stutters and engine will completely shut off while driving. It will begin to throw errors for second brake system malfunction, check engine, lane departure assist. Codes from obd2 read p12d5 and p107d. Seems like fuel stops is being cut off or extreme software issue. Regardless it has left my pregnant wife and 3 yr old son stranded in the middle of the road in 100 degree plus weather or then runs extremely rough. Have gone to a mechanic twice each time engine codes had shut off and there was nothing to be done at the moment. Issue still persists, it is still a danger and often it is difficult to have enough momentum to pull over somewhere safe. This issue may also cause further engine problems

I have owned 5 Toyotas and a Lexus SUV and never had so many problems. This is a 2020 Camry Hybrid with only 20492 miles on it. It has had to be jump-started 3-4 times so far, but now it has a new issue: While on a road trip with my wife thru Utah, the car suddenly shuts down, bells ringing and messages appearing. Cruise control, Lane departure, and Headlight System Failure. This happened on a 2-lane highway with very minimal shoulder. I pulled over as far as I could, but still slightly in the lane. Turned off the ignition and after a minute or so, was able to restart the car. Noted that the sign on the road said "Next Services 129 Miles"! This was on July 11, 2022 at about 3 PM. Once car was restarted, we drove to our destination without further issues, however I would not use Cruise control for fear it would happen again. Got back to California the next day and took it to dealer to investigate the cause. Their conclusion: "Extreme heat caused the warning lights to come on, but history code indicates that the issue resolved itself. The vehicle is operating normally at this time but the system will be affected by high temperatures and direct sunlight"!!! The temperature on the road at the time was 95 degrees. Dealer contacted Toyota's technical assistance hot line to document concern Case #221930394. Per the service department, they called the field rep who said if everything was functioning at this time, then there was no action to be taken. First of all, I am 75 years old and do not expect this from a car with only 20492 miles on it, and especially not from a Toyota. I find the "solution" to be completely foolish - avoid high temperatures and direct sunlight!! Temperatures over 95 degrees and direct sunlight are common in many states. Can someone please get to the bottom of this? I am beginning to think that I bought a lemon. I am also reporting it to NHTSA, as it is a safety issue that must be dealt with. Thank you,

The first time it happened to me was on Jun 15, 2021, only the light came on and when I turned off the car the light went off after a month it came on again and turned off by itself, and now it turned on and it doesn't turn off for nothing. and it only says the PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM & CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTION alert. I was doing a little research online and I realized that many people have this problem regardless of the vehicle miles and this is dangerous since this happens on local streets or highways regardless of the speed of the vehicle. please investigate. I have replaced my windshield 4 times in a 16 month period. Every time I replace it something very small like a pebble or a big bug hits it and it cracks extremely easy. Once I was cleaning my windshield and lifted the wiper up about 3" and then when I was through I just let it go and it cracked the windshield. I have owned several vehicles and I have never seen a windshield so brittle. Out of the 16 months of owning this car I have only driven it with a non cracked windshield for about 30 days.

CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE THEY TOLD ME TO HOLD THE KEY FAB TO THE START BUTTON AND TRY TO START THE CAR. WHICH DID NOT START. THEY WERE GOING TO SEND A TOW TRUCK TO GIVE ME A JUMP. MY CAR STARTED FINE WITH THE JUMP. I TOOK MY AR TO WOLF CHASE TOYOTA. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD LOOK AT MY CAR WHICH THEY DID NOT AFTER BEGINNING THERE OVER 6 HRS DID NOT OFFER ME A LOANER VEHICLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO AUTO ZONE HAD THEM CHECK MY BATTERY NO ISSUES FOUND ALSO HAD THE BATTERY IN KEY FAB CHECKED. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I GOT A JUMP AGAIN EVERYTHING WAS OK. MY CAR IS WITH CHUCK HUTTO TOYOTA NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH MY THEY DID PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER CAR. ALSO CHECKING FOR POWER DECEASE WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE .

DURING MULTIPLE EPISODES WHETHER THE CAR IS AT A STOP OR IN MOTION THERE IS A DELAY FROM WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED TO WHEN THE ENGINE RESPONDS AND REVS LEADING TO MORE POWER AND SPEED. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR DOWN AND THERE IS NO MAJOR CHANGE IN SPEED AND REVS UNTIL SECONDS LATER WHEN THEN ENGINE THEN GOES FROM 1000RPMS TO 3000RPMS. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS AND ALMOST LED TO AN ACCIDENT AS THERE WAS AN ONCOMING CAR THAT ALMOST HIT ME AS I WAS TRYING TO MAKE THE TURN. ALSO HAPPENED WHEN I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND THERE WAS AN ACCELERATION DELAY FOR A SAFE MERGE.

SLOW ACCELERATION DURING 1ST 1 OR 2 GEARS. ALMOST HAD MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS IN HIGHWAY DUE TO SLOW ACCELERATION WHEN CHANGING LANES. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY RESPOND TO ACCELERATION WHEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS USED. THE VEHICLE HAS A COUPLE OF SECONDS DELAY UNTIL IT CHANGING INTO NEXT GEAR. DEALER NON RESPONSIVE. I BROUGHT IT INTO MY TOYOTA DEALER AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DROVE MY CAR WITH ME IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I EXPLAINED THAT MY PREVIOUS (3) V6 TOYOTA CAMRY'S DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION, HE TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD. THE NEW 8- SPEED TRANSMISSION HAS DIFFERENT SHIFT SETTINGS WHICH EXPLAINS THE ACCELERATION DELAY AND SOMETIMES CAUSES A JERKY MOTION FROM A DEAD STOP, DRIVING IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC OR WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY. ACCORDING TO THE TECH, THEY HAVE BEEN PROVIDED WITH NO FIXES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THE CAR WILL "LEARN" MY DRIVING HABITS THE MORE I DRIVE IT.
