The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Highlander. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power and started to drift to the right side of the road. The brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle was able to come to a complete stop. The contact mentioned she waited for AAA for roadside assistance. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 185,420.

THE REAR HATCH GIVES A CHIME AND SAYS IT IS OPEN WHEN IT IS CLOSED. THIS IS A 2010 HIGHLANDER AND I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE. THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSUE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW IF IT IS ACTUALLY OPEN OR IF IT ACTUALLY CLOSED BUT JUST CHIMING FOR NO REASON. IT HAPPENS VERY INTERMITTENTLY, BUT OFTEN WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP BUT OTHER TIMES THERE IS NO PATTERN, IT JUST HAPPENS SOMETIMES AND NOT OTHERS. IT HAPPENS WHEN STATIONARY AND WHEN MOVING. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AT LEAST.

REAR HATCH SENSOR / DOOR AJAR DEFECT REAR DOOR (HATCH) AJAR WARNING LIGHT, INTERIOR LIGHTS AND WARNING SOUND (BING!) COME ON (OFTEN SEVERAL TIMES PER SECOND, AS IF FLASHING) WHENEVER BRAKING, TURNING, OR ON UNEVEN SURFACE. NOT ONLY IS IT ANNOYING, THE LEVEL OF DISTURBANCE IS SEVERELY DISTRACTING AND NECESSITATES TAKING EYES OFF THE ROAD TO CHECK THE ALARM. ON A LONG TRIP THIS CAUSES DANGEROUS LEVELS OF AGGRAVATION. SUN ROOF GLASS EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 TO 65 MILES PER HOUR. WE HAD THE SUN SHADE CLOSED SO WE DID NOT KNOW THE SUN ROOF GLASS HAD EXPLODED. PULLED OFF THE ROAD, NO OTHER CAR OR TRUCK WAS NEAR US, AND DISCOVERED THE SUN ROOF GLASS HAD EXPLODED AND GLASS WAS PREVENTED FROM ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT BECAUSE THE SHADE WAS CLOSED. WENT TO A TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT 10 MILES AWAY AND THEY SAID IT WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY A ROCK. I SAID NO ONE WAS NEAR US, FRONT OR BACK, AND THEY SAID WE MIGHT HAVE HAD A CHIP IN THE SUN ROOF GLASS FROM BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. IT WAS A NICE DAY, NO RAIN, NOT TOO HOT, AROUND 65 DEGREES, COMFORTABLE, SUN WAS OUT. THEY TAPED THE GLASS THAT WAS STILL TOGETHER SO WE COULD DRIVE HOME AND HAVE IT REPAIRED. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE GLASS AND WOULD TAKE SEVERAL DAYS. THIS HAPPENED IN JULY, 2012.

THE FRONT SIDE WINDOW GLASS IS INOPERATIVE DUE TO BROKEN WINDOW MOUNTING TAB. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE POWER TO THE WINDOW MOTOR SO IT CAN'T BE USED. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE IF OPERATED WHILE DRIVING, THE WINDOW COMES OFF TRACK AND GETS COCKEYED.

When traveling a slow speeds (less than 15 mph) and needing to stop, the brakes are pressed but do not respond. This has happened on several occasions and has caused two separate accidents where the Highlander has failed to stop and it runs into the car in front. After the first accident, we looked for recalls (2015) and there were none for any model Toyota for brakes or brake systems. We brought the car in to the mechanic and had all the brakes and pads replaced, although they said nothing was wrong with the shoes nor pads. Now, years later, another accident in the exact same way. Luckily, due to the slow speed, no one was hurt but this is definitely a problem with the car. There have never been any warning lights, or sounds that would indicate an issue.

Affected by the faulty Brake Actuator & Accumulator on 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Brake malfunction and ABS disabled lights popped up on my Multi-Information Display. This issue disables ABS & VSC systems, which therefore makes this a safety hazard. Upon doing research, I have concluded that many complaints about this specific "Brake actuator & accumulator" have been issued. In the past, Toyota has provided a "Customer Support Program" which expired in 2020, but this does not help current owners like myself, who are stuck with this problem.

On approx. October 19, 2023 my vehicle started showing 4 error messages on the display: Brake Malfunction, Check ABS, Check VSC System, and Check Brake System. At the same time, these 5 warning lamps became illuminated: Brake System Warning Light and Warning Buzzer (Red), Brake System Warning Light (Yellow), Master Warning Light (Yellow), ABS Warning Light (Yellow), and SLIP Indicator (Yellow). A car repair technician obtained the following error codes from the vehicle in a diagnosis: C1391 (Abnormal Leak in Accumulator). I was informed that the VSC (vehicle stability control) safety feature of the vehicle is disabled while the error codes and messages are present. Toyota previously issued a customer support bulletin (No. POL19-06) on June 6, 2019, titled "Customer Support Program ZKC: Certain 2008-2010 Model Year Highlander Hybrid Vehicles Coverage for Brake Actuator Assembly and Brake Booster Pump Assembly". In the bulletin, Toyota acknowledged that its 2008-2010 Highlander Hybrid models had "certain internal malfunctions of the Brake Actuator Assembly". Affected error codes include C1391 and C1253, among others. Affected warning lamps consists of all 5 of the warning lamps that were illuminated in my vehicle. Affected parts include 04008-26448 (Actuator Assy, Brake w/ Fluid) and 04008-51148 (Pump Kit, Brake Booster w/ Accumulator). Instead of issuing a recall for this hazardous defect, Toyota opted to offer "Customer Support Program ZKC". The malfunction that manifested my vehicle is not eligible for this program. Toyota should issue a proper recall to address this safety hazard.

The brake actuator (4405048320) and brake booster pump (4707048020) malfunctioned. The ABS warning came on the display, as well as a warning saying “Brake Malfunction: pull over car immediately.” The traction control light, ABS light, warning light, and parking brake light also came on. The computer code was C1391. This controls the brakes and anti-lock brake system. This is a serious and known safety issue. It is well-documented online, and in 2019 Toyota acknowledged this widespread issue with a Customer Support Program ZKC. However, this program only applied for a limited time, and since then more vehicles have had this same issue with faulty parts. Even vehicles under 150,000 miles no longer qualify for free replacement despite this being a known and widespread issue.

AS I SLOWLY PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE HIGHLANDER SUDDENLY ACCELERATED QUICKLY, JUMPED THE CONCRETE PARKING STOP AND SLAMMED INTO A RETAINING WALL. IT HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY AND UNEXPECTED. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER. THE VEHICLE HAS 56000 MILES AND HAS BEEN SERVICED ONLY BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE AND WAS TAKEN IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER FOR 2 DAYS TO INSPECT THE SYSTEMS. BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE, THE REPAIR SHOP GOT THE VEHICLE IN IMMEDIATELY AND ESTIMATE REPAIRS AT $10,000. I AM VERY FRIGHTENED OF THIS VEHICLE RIGHT NOW AS ANOTHER INCIDENT LIKE THIS COULD PRODUCE MUCH WORSE RESULTS.

Driving with small child daughter in suv, after getting car wash and ice cream, got on highway then got off…never any oil or engine lights illuminating ever. Smoke coming from front and tire areas. Other people in cars staring and pointing at our suv! Very scary! Oil leaking from front passenger area all over ground trailing. Pulled over! Pulled dip stick it was bone dry. Still no oil light! No engine light! Conrad’s shop looked at it got estimate it is the Toyota oil cooler line that failed that soooo many ppl have had but there’s no recall yet from Toyota seriously dangerous and horrible! Suv only has 86000 miles on it!

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILLAGE WAS 129,000.

In June passenger airbag light was sending error messages to the system. The dealer(service department) reported the car needed a specific part for the repair. Control Panel - Toyota (84010-0E050-E0). The part was ordered and we waited. After several weeks it became clear the part was not coming. Reached out to both dealership and Toyota and was told today it would not be available until the end of the year. This is a non-functioning air bag. Toyota has advised me to use an after market replacement, if I can find and they will install(Auto Nation-Libertyville). The second point was to essentially be careful driving... The car is dangerous and Toyota does not seem to care!

THE VISOR IS DEFECTIVE AND GETS STUCK IN A 45 DEGREE ANGLE POSITION. A WARRANTY REPAIR WAS MADE, BUT IT HAPPENED A SECOND TIME OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. ALSO, THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR DEVELOPED THE SAME PROBLEM, ALSO OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. I WAS DRIVING ON M HWY INTO SEDALIA MO ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON, 4/5/14, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP LIKE A GUNSHOT, AND I LOOKED UP & SAW THAT MY MOONROOF SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES, BUT IT STAYED TOGETHER LIKE SAFETY GLASS IS SUPPOSED TO. TINY SHARDS STARTED TO FILTER DOWN BUT I WAS ABLE TO STOP & CLOSE THE SUN VISOR TO PREVENT OTHER GLASS FROM FALLING DOWN. THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME THAT COULD HAVE KICKED UP A ROCK, NO EXPLANATION FOR THE MOONROOF TO SUDDENLY SHATTER. WE JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR IN FEBRUARY, & BOUGHT A CERTIFIED TOYOTA PLATINUM WARRANTY AT THAT TIME. DRIVING ON I-5 MONDAY AM TO WORK AND DUE TO THE SUN SHINING IN MY EYES PUT THE VISOR DOWN. LATER WHEN THE SUN WENT BEHIND SOME CLOUDS I PUT THE VISOR BACK UP AND I HEARD NOISE FROM THE VISOR THAT APPEARED TO BE LIKE PLASTIC RUBBING TOGETHER. I purchase The H4 LED’s from headlightexperts.com February 2022. There is a design flaw with their H4.bulb. The low beam have LED’s on both sides of the light bulb, however the halogen bulb has a shield so that light will only come out of one side of the bulb. The result of leds on both sides of the low beam is light hits the high beam reflector from the back side of the low beam led bulb, and blinds oncoming vehicles. When I contacted customer service via email, they kept saying I have the bulb at the wrong angle, and sent me links to 2videos for proper installation. I keep adjusting the bulb, at first with 45degree turns but then even less- still the light from the back side of the low beam bleeds onto the high beam reflector and blinds oncoming vehicles due to this design flaw. When I called the companies Phone number [XXX] it links to their sales department only. I attempted to explain the issue to their salesman who salesman who proceeded to dismiss the concern as my fault for not installing it correctly. There is no way to install this product correctly due to the fact it has low beam leds hitting a high beam reflector. When I pointed out the safety issue this product creates, I was told to look elsewhere for “some unicorn bulb that doesn’t exist.” He was rude, Hostile and argumentative.. When I attempted to explain the design flaw issue again, he selected would talk over me saying “bla bla bla bla bla” when ever I spoke like a 4yr old. In short there was ZERO concern for public safe their product puts at risk. THE BACK UP LIGHTS ON MY HIGHLANDER ARE ALMOST NON EXISTENT. I HAVE TRIED TO USE THEM TO BACK UP AT NIGHT AND THERE IS NOT LIGHT AT ALL. YOU CAN BARELY SEE ANYTHING AT NIGHT USING THESE "BACK UP LIGHTS" I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I LIVE OUT IN THE COUNTRY AND NEED THESE BACK UP LIGHTS TO SEE ANY OBSTRUCTION AT NIGHT. I TOOK THE HIGHLANDER TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT WAS JUST HOW TOYOTA MADE THESE BACK UP LIGHTS. I FEEL THIS IS INSUFFICIENT AND DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AT NIGHT. OPEN-DOOR WARNING KEEPS POPPING IN THE DASH WHEN DRIVING, AS WELL AS THE LIGHT INSIDE INSIDE THE CAR (CONSISTENT WITH AN OPEN DOOR). THE PROBLEM STARTED AT FIRST AS THE CAR WOULD BE TURNING AT VERY LOW SPEED. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE NEXT 2 WEEKS AND NOW HAPPENS ALMOST ANYTIME THERE IS A BUMP IN THE ROAD, OR WHEN CORNERING, AS WELL AS WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES, EVEN GENTLY. I CHANGED ALL THE DOOR SENSORS BUT IT DID NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE.

WHILE USING THE TAILGATE CLOSE BUTTON ON THE KEY FOB,CAR SHUT OFF AND PARKED, A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD WHILE THE DOOR WAS CLOSING AND THE DOOR JAMMED, SLIGHTLY OPENED AND IMMOVABLE. HAD TO TAKE THE CAR TO A CERTIFIED TOYOTA REPAIR FACILITY TO GET THE CLOSING SERVO DISCONNECTED SO THE DOOR WOULD SHUT. MANUAL OPERATION OF THE DOOR IS THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN AND CLOSE AT THIS TIME. NOTHING WAS BLOCKING THE DOOR AS IT WAS CLOSING AND COMPLETE REPAIR APPEARS TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE. BACK DOOR HINGES APPEAR TO BE SLIGHTLY OUT OF LINE BUT DOOR WILL CLOSE MANUALLY. T-SB-0038-15 ADDRESSES A PROBLEM SIMILAR TO THIS BUT THE DOOR WOULD OPEN - IN THIS CASE IT WOULD NOT UNTIL THE TOYOTA SERVICEMAN REMOVED THE SERVO.

WHEN THE SERVICE MANAGER FROM COPELAND TOYOTA IN BROCKTON, MA AND I LOOKED AT THE TRUNK HINGES TOGETHER IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE TRUNK NOT CLOSING WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE WAY THAT THE HIGHLANDER WAS MANUFACTURED VERSUS DUE TO ANY FAULT OF OUR OWN. THIS ISSUE HAS LEFT MY CHILDREN AND I WITH A DRAINED BATTERY ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, WHICH IS NOT ONLY INCONVENIENT BUT A SAFETY ISSUE GIVEN THE RISKS INVOLVED WITH BEING STRANDED IN UNFAMILIAR TOWNS. THE MALFUNCTION AND INOPERABILITY OF OUR TRUNK DOOR LEAVES MY FAMILY AT RISK OF DANGER. HOWEVER, I WAS QUOTED $3,600 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE BY A THIRD PARTY BODY SHOP THAT COPELAND TOYOTA USES. HOWEVER, THE REPAIR EXPENSES SHOULD NOT BE PAID BY MY FAMILY BUT RATHER TOYOTA SINCE THE ISSUE IS A DIRECT RESULT OF FAULTY MANUFACTURING. TO THIS POINT, I RECOGNIZE THAT I AM NOT ALONE, THERE ARE SEVERAL VIDEOS AND ENDLESS COMPLAINTS OF SEVERAL TOYOTA HIGHLANDERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE (NEWER MODELS AS WELL). THE TAILGATE HATCH WAS UNABLE TO OPEN BY ELECTRONIC PUSH BOTTOM OR MANUALLY. SEEING THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THE CAUSE WAS A FAULTY ENGINEERING DESIGN TO THE TAILGATE BYTOYOTA. THE HINGE MECHANICS TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE DOOR AND USE CAUSE ALIGMENT ISSUES AND THEREFORE, THE GATE OR WINDOW CANNOT OPEN PROPERLY. TO FIX PROPERLY A NEW DOOR AND HINGE SYSTEM WERE PUT ON WITH NO GUARANTEES THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX BY THE OWNER. LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM MANY CONSUMERS WITH THIS HIGHLANDER HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. TOYOTA HAS REENGINEERED ITS NEWER MODELS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IN AN EMERGENCY TO GET PEOPLE OUT OF THE 3RD ROW SEAT WITH THE DOOR STUCK IS A SAFETY ISSUE. APPARENTLY THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FROM MY RESEARCH AND MY DISCUSSION WITH THE DEALER. MY 2010 HIGHLANDER WITH 40K MILES HAS A POWER REAR DOOR. THE HINGES HOLDING THE DOOR ARE SPACED TOO FAR WHICH CAUSES STRESS ON THE MECHANICAL ARM AND BOLT THAT ATTACH TO THE DOOR. MY WIFE WAS IN THE VEHICLE AND PRESSED THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE REAR POWER DOOR WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD "POP". THE BOLT ATTACHING THE "ARM" TO THE DOOR STRIPPED AND CAME OUT OF THE DOOR. THE DEALER SAID MY FULL COVERAGE "BUMPER TO BUMPER" WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS AND GAVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER TO TOYOTA. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA AND THEY INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE WITH THE DEALER. TOYOTA CAME BACK AND OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST 50%. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE IN MY OPINION AS IT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING ISSUE AS WELL AS A SAFETY CONCERN. IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND PRESSED THE POWER DOOR BUTTON, SHE COULD HAVE BEEN STRUCK IN THE FACE WITH THE METAL BAR WHEN IT PULLED ITSELF OUT OF THE DOOR. TOYOTA SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO WENT THE EXTRA STEP AND PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH THEM. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE CAUSING THE CONTACT TO STOP THE VEHICLE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE APPEARED TO HAVE SMALL HOLES IN IT AND WAS EXTREMELY WORN. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE TIRE AND DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE FAILURE MAY HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURES. THE CONTACT STATED THE WHEEL MAY BE DEFECTIVE AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO WEAR EXCESSIVELY. I PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER FROM FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA LOCATION. THE VEHICLE RODE SMOOTH UNTIL I HAD ITS FIRST SERVICED AT TOYOTA. THE VEHICLE RODE LIKE A JEEP, ROCK AND ROLLING, AT NORMAL DRIVING SPEED AND HIGHLY AT LOW SPEED. ALL THIS STARTED AFTER THE FIRST VEHICLE SERVICE. I TRADED IN MY 2006 FOR 2010 AND IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. FOR THE 2006, I PURCHASED NEW RIMS, TIRES, LUGS, WHEEL BALANCING AND FULL FRONT END ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE STILL RODE THE SAME ROCKING AND ROLLING. IN THE PAST, I HAVE WORK AS SYSTEM ENGINEER ON A MILITARY PROJECT. THE VEHICLE HAD PROBLEMS WITH ITS TRACKS, THE PROBLEM THE LUGS NOT BEING ADJUSTED THE SAME ON EACH WHEEL RESULTING IN TRACK BREAKING OR DAMAGE. THE SAME FOR ANY VEHICLE THAT HAS LUGS AND WHEEL. BACK TO MY 2010, BOTTOM LINE IS EACH WHEEL MUST BE TORQUE THE SAME. IF EACH WHEEL IS TORQUE DIFFERENT OR EACH TUG, THAN THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE A ROCKING AND ROLLING AFFECT. WE HAVE A BRAND NEW TOYOTA HIGHLANDER (2010) WITH ONLY 2200 MILES ON IT, WE HAVE RECENTLY NOTICED THAT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BETWEEN 58 - 64 MPH, IT CONSISTENTLY MAKES A VERY NOTICEABLE, RESONATING VIBRATION SOUND. CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY AND WE TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED ON 7/15/10. THEY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY WHY IT IS OCCURRING. THEY DROVE ANOTHER BRAND NEW HIGHLANDER FROM THEIR LOT FOR COMPARISON PURPOSES AND TOLD US THAT THE OTHER HIGHLANDER HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA MIGHT ISSUE A TECHNICAL SAFETY BULLETIN (TSB) ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND A PROPOSED SOLUTION, WE WERE THEN ADVISED THAT WE SHOULD ASK ABOUT A TSB EVERY TIME WE BRING THE CAR IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE. BOTTOM LINE - THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS AND NOONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY. WE WERE TOLD TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT THAT WAS OBVIOUS. SO, WE ARE NOW DRIVING THE CAR - AND STILL LISTENING TO IT VIBRATE BETWEEN 58 - 64 MPH. I HAVE BEEN A LIFELONG TOYOTA OWNER AND BOUGHT THIS NEW HIGHLANDER EVEN THOUGH TOYOTA WAS RECEIVING SO MUCH BAD PRESS. WE HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF ANNOYING QUALITY CONTROL ISSUES WITH IT - BUT THIS ONE IS PERPLEXING AND DISCONCERTING. WHEN STATIONARY OR DRIVING, DASHBOARD DOOR-OPEN LIGHT STAYS ON. ALL DOME LIGHTS STAY ON WHEN DRIVING UNLESS TURNED COMPLETELY OFF ON DASHBOARD BUT THEY WILL STILL FLICKER AND WARNING SOUND WILL GO ON AND OFF WHEN DRIVING, TURNING A CORNER, OR GOING OVER A BUMP ON ANY ROAD. WHEN LOCKING THE CAR WITH THE DOOR-REMOTE, THE WARNING SOUND GOES ON AND STAYS ON UNTIL CAR IS UNLOCKED. CAR MUST BE LOCKED BY HAND TO STOP WARNING SOUND. CAR WAS SENT TO TOYOTA REPAIR CENTER FOR ELECTRICAL REPAIRS, BUT THIS WARNING LIGHT ISSUE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE IS A BUMP IN THE REAR HATCH FROM BACKING UP IN A GARAGE. SERVICE DEPT. SAID REAR DOOR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED BECAUSE REAR HATCH WOULD NOT CLOSE CORRECTLY. HOWEVER, REAR HATCH HAS ALWAYS CLOSED AND STILL CLOSED. TOYOTA COULD NOT GUARANTEE A NEW HATCH OR REPAIRED BODY WORK WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. WARNING LIGHTS PROBLEM STARTED MONTHS BEFORE REAR DOOR ISSUE. TOYOTA OFFERED TO TURN WARNING SOUND OFF, BUT I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I ROUTINELY CHECKED IF ANY DOOR IS OPEN.

We received this from Toyota. Customer Support Program Bulletin Date: Page: POL19-06 6/6/2019 1 of 3 REVISED 8/28/19 CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM BULLETIN (ZKC): REPAIR COVERAGE FOR BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY AND BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLY ON CERTAIN 2008-2010 MY HIGHLANDER HYBRID VEHICLE. When we received this bulletin, we asked our Toyota Dealer Service Department (Stevenson Toyota East, Denver, CO) to address this issue multiple times when bringing in our vehicle for service in 2019 and 2020 and were told repeatedly they would not fix this issue since the ABS light was not on. Now that this bulletin is expired the ABS light is on. We took our Highlander to the Toyota Dealership in Melbourne, Florida and were told that this repair will now cost us $2473.89. Our 2010 Highlander is barely worth that, and now we have to repair this on our own even though Toyota knew the brake actuator assembly and brake booster pump would eventually fail at some point in time. Despite this, Toyota refused to resolve this issue when we asked (more than once) right after receiving the service bulletin in 2019 and as a result is causing a safety issue for our college aged son who drives this car, and all other drivers on the road should the ABS system fail. The attached estimate states the ABS service light has not come back on but this is not true and my son is having issues with the brakes.

The brake actuator assembly and brake booster pump assembly had a recall on it but my truck was not having problems then. I noticed that when I start braking, the truck speeds up. Then all the light on the dash board came on. When my vehicle started having problems I call and they told me that the recall had expired 3 months earlier for my vehicle and it was up to the owner to have it fixed. I didn't get a notice and I wasn't aware of such recall so why am I liable for the repairs. I need help with this please.

2010 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN GARAGE OF RESIDENCE, DESTROYING THE HIGHLANDER AND THE CAR PARKED ADJACENT TO IT, ALONG WITH MOST OF THE HOUSE. PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE HIGHLANDER WAS STATIONARY, WITH THE IGNITION OFF AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE. A SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION INCLUDING INSPECTING BURN PATTERNS AND THERMAL DAMAGE INDICATED THE FIRE ORIGINATED AT THE FRONT OF THE TOYOTA HIGHLANDER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHERE THE FUSE PANEL, BATTERY AND STARTER/SOLENOID WERE LOCATED. ALL THREE SOURCES OF IGNITION REMAIN ENERGIZED WITH THE IGNITION OFF. THE UPPER PORTION OF THE PLASTIC HOUSING ON THE FUSE PANEL AND BATTERY HAD MELTED EXPOSING THE RECEIVERS FOR THE FUSES AND PLATES INSIDE THE BATTERY. THE ENDS OF THE RECEIVERS HAD ALLOYING ON THE RECEIVERS, BUT NO FAILURES WERE NOTED ON FUSE PANEL OR BATTERY. EXTREME THERMAL DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED ON THE CONNECTOR END OF THE SOLENOID WHERE MOST OF THE FACING HAD MELTED OR WAS CONSUMED. LINES OF DEMARCATION FROM EXTREME HEAT WAS OBSERVED ON THE REMAINING SECTION OF THE SOLENOID FACING. THE CABLE CONNECTING THE BATTERY TO THE SOLENOID WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE SOLENOID DUE TO THE EXTREME DAMAGED TO THE SOLENOID. THE TERMINAL CONNECTOR ON THE CABLE SUSTAINED ARCING AND/OR MELTING OF THE METAL TERMINAL. THE CONCLUSIONS WERE THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A FAILED SOLENOID ATTACHED TO THE STARTER ON THE 2010 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER. LAB ANALYSIS OF THE STARTER/SOLENOID REVEALED FAILURE AT THE CONNECTION END OF THE SOLENOID WITH BEADING AND ARCING ON CONTACTS INSIDE THE SOLENOID.

THE HYBRID INVERTER FAILED WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT. A LOUD CLUNK WAS HEARD AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND HAD TO BE PUSHED OUT OF THE ROAD. "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" WARNING FLASHED. CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AT 9 YEARS, 117K MILES (WARRANTY IS 8 YEARS, 110K MILES). THE PREVIOUS RECALLS FOR THE HYBRID INVERTER HAD BEEN COMPLETED ~3 YEARS AGO AND SO THE RECALL ALSO WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THE QUOTED COST OF THE REPAIR IS ~$11K.

IN LATE 2012, TOYOTA ISSUED A TSB RELATED TO THE REAR POWER LIFT GATE. INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO REPLACE THE HINGES, MOTOR UNIT, ETC... IF EVIDENCE OF FAILURE. LIMITATIONS WERE 3 YR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. EXPLANATIONS FROM THE DEALER WERE THAT THE HINGES FOR THE BACK HATCH WERE UNDER MANUFACTURED FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE DOOR CAUSING THEM TO TWIST/WARP AND PULL AWAY FROM THE DOOR AND/OR FRAME. THIS ALSO CREATED UNDUE STRESS ON THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY UNIT OFTEN TIMES LEADING TO FAILURE. I HAD SERVICE PERFORMED IN EARLY 2013 AS RECOMMENDED BY THE TSB. I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING THE IDENTICAL ISSUES AS STATED ABOVE BUT WORSE. THE DOOR NO LONGER OPERATES BY USING THE POWER LIFT FEATURE ON THE KEY FOB. THE DOOR IS AGAIN WARPED CAUSING THE GRINDING AND CLICKING NOISES WHEN YOU OPEN IT MANUALLY. THE MOTOR HAS FAILED AND I AM AFRAID MY ACTUAL DOOR IS WARPED. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MY DEALER AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE WORK WAS COMPLETED AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO FOR ME. THIS IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BE LESS THAN EFFECTIVE. I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS A CAR MILEAGE ISSUE. IT IS SIMPLY A MANUFACTURING ERROR THAT HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED. TOYOTA FAILED TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. AFTER RESEARCHING MY PROBLEM I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN VERY LARGE CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS RELATED TO THIS VERY ISSUE. NORTHBOUND TRAILER LOST A TIRE/RIM DUE TO MECHANICAL FAILURE AND IT CROSSED THE MEDIUM AND IMPACTED OUR VEHICLE BLOWING THREE (3) AIRBAGS. THIS MODEL AND YEAR DID NOT INITIALLY HAVE TAKATA AIRBAGS INSTALLED DURING PRODUCTION. IT IS UNKNOWN, TO DATE, WHETHER THE REPLACEMENT AIR BAGS INSTALLED BY GRIFFIN TOYOTA AT ROCKINGHAM, NC WHERE MANUFACTURED BY TAKATA AND POSE A DANGER TO OCCUPANTS IF ACTIVATED. THE TAKATA AIRBAG PROBLEM DID NOT GET PUBLIC ATTENTION UNTIL THE OCTOBER & NOVEMBER, 2014, TIMEFRAME. THIS WAS VERY SCARY SINCE MY WIFE DRIVES THE VEHICLE AND TRANSPORTS OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDSON. I WAS AFRAID IF SHE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE POWER WINDOW DID NOT WORK SHE WOULD HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. TWICE IN SEPTEMBER 2014, AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, I PRESSED THE BRAKES AND SLOWED TO NEARLY A STOP. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED VERY HIGH, AND IF I HAD NOT ALREADY HAD A FOOT ON THE BRAKES, I WOULD HAVE GONE INTO AN INTERSECTION. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING SO HIGH THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND WHILE THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN NEUTRAL, TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO NORMAL IDLE. THIS SAME SEQUENCE HAPPENED BOTH TIMES. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE THIS MONTH, BUT THESE ARE THE FIRST OCCURRENCES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER, AND THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THAT IF THE VEHICLE ISN'T DEMONSTRATING THAT BEHAVIOR WHEN I BRING IT IN, THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIND WHAT CAUSED IT. THEY INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE DATA RECORDER WOULD NOT RECORD SUCH AN EVENT. THEY SAID THEY WOULD ADD A NOTE ABOUT THIS TO THE RECORD THEY HAVE ON THIS VEHICLE (THEY HAVE DONE ALL THE SERVICE SINCE I PURCHASED IT FROM THEM). THE DRIVERS SUN VISOR HAS 2 STOP POINTS. ONE IS SUPPOSED TO BE FULLY UPRIGHT IN THE RECESS OF THE HEAD LINER. THE STOP POINT HAS MOVED SO THAT THE UPPER MOST POINT THE VISOR WILL GO IS ABOUT 10% BELOW LEVEL AND RIGHT IN THE LINE OF SIGHT OF THE DRIVER. THIS CAUSES AN UNSAFE CONDITION IN THAT THE DRIVER CAN NOT SEE THE ROAD OR STOP LIGHTS. I HAVE RUN A RED LIGHT BECAUSE I CAN NOT SEE IT. VEHICLE HAS NEVER CRASHED AND AFTER PULLING OVER AND PLACING VEHICLE IN PARK, VEHICLE DID NOT CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE. THIS TOYOTA HAS BEEN SERVICED 3-4 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM, INCLUDING A SPECIALIST FROM ANOTHER STATE WHO TRAVELED TO BATON ROUGE TO MAKE A THOROUGH INSPECTION INVOLVING 2-3 HOURS. VERDICT WAS NO VISIBLE OR OTHER PROBLEM DETECTED. TWO MONTHS AGO THERE WAS ANOTHER RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE AND TOYOTA MADE THE REPAIR IN THE COMPUTER. LAST WEEK ON MAY 20, 2014 I RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL REGARDING THIS VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE INVOLVES A STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY CONTAINING A SPIRAL CABLE WITH ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS INVOLVING THE AIR BAG. SHOULD THE DRIVER AIR BAG BECOME DEACTIVATED, IT COULD CAUSE IT NOT TO DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH WHICH COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE DRIVER IN CERTAIN TYPES OF CRASHES. THE REMEDY IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE AND TOYOTA WILL SEND A SECOND OWNER NOTIFICATION LETTER WHEN THE REMEDY IS AVAILABLE. DESPITE NUMEROUS LETTERS AND REPEATED TELEPHONE CALLS TO TOYOTA, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY ASSISTANCE TO PURCHASE A NEW TOYOTA HIGHLANDER THAT DOES NOT ENCOMPASS THESE TYPES OF SAFETY RECALLS. I'D STOPPED ON THE RESIDENTIAL STREET TO LET A CAR PASS. AFTER THE CAR PASSED, I ATTEMPTED TO PULL UP ALONG THE CURB TO PARK, BUT THE CAR ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND THE STEERING DID NOT SEEM TO RESPOND. THE SPACE BETWEEN ACCELERATION AND IMPACT WAS 10-15 FEET. IT'S LIKE THE CAR HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN, AND I HAD NO CONTROL. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WAS SMASHED, THE HOOD WAS SMASHED, FRONT BUMPER AND PASSENGER SIDE FENDER WERE ALSO SMASHED. ON 4/15/13, I WAS INFORMED THE CAR HAD BEEN REPAIRED AND WAS SENT TO SF TOYOTA. I REPEATEDLY CALLED SF TOYOTA TO SEE IF THEY HAD FOUND ANY MECHANICAL DEFECTS. ON 4/16/13, I WAS CONTACTED BY DON'S AUTOBODY AND TOLD THAT TOYOTA REFUSED TO INSPECT THE CAR. SINCE WE DON'T KNOW IF THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE, THE PERSON FROM THE AUTOBODY SHOP SUGGESTED WE CALL TOYOTA USA. TOYOTA USA OPENED A CASE AND HAS ENLISTED BILL FROM ENGINEERING ANALYTICS TO INSPECT THE CAR. BILL PLANS TO INSPECT THE CAR ON 4/30/13. HE WILL COLLECT DATA AND SEND IT TO TOYOTA. TOYOTA SAID THEY'LL REVIEW THE DATA AND WILL MAIL US THE RESULTS WITHIN 30 BUSINESS DAYS. THE FLARES THAT ARE ATTACHED TO THE FENDERS KEEP COMING OFF WHILE DRIVING. THEY HAVE COME OFF FOUR TIMES NOW AND POSE A SAFETY THREAT TO ME AND OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAY. I CURRENTLY HAVE THREE FLARES TAPED TO THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT THEIR COMING OFF WHILE DRIVING. CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE IS SUPPOSE TO BE ALL WHEEL DRIVE, HOWEVER THE HYBRID SYSTEM IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD SLIDE, THE HYBRID SYSTEM SHUT DOWN THE ALL-WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM BECAUSE THE COMPUTER WAS TRYING TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE GENERATOR WHICH IS A PART OF THE HYBRID SYSTEM. *JB

DRIVER BACKED OUT OF AN END PARKING SPACE (NOSE IN, CURB IN FRONT AND ON RIGHT). DRIVER FELT WHEEL (RIGHT SIDE) GO OVER CURB (TURNED TOO QUICKLY). DRIVER STOPPED, SHIFTED TO DRIVE (FORWARD) TO GET OFF THE CURB. WHEN DRIVER TOUCHED ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE SHOT FORWARD (SEEMED LIKE 50 MPH). LEFT FRONT OF THE HIGHLANDER CREASED THE TWO SIDE DOORS OF THE MINIVAN PARKED ADJACENT ON THE LEFT. THE LEFT FRONT OF THE HIGHLANDER SUSTAINED GRILLE DAMAGE, LEFT FENDER, HEADLIGHT AND RUNNING LIGHT, DRIVER DOOR AND LEFT MIRROR. FENDER PUSHED BACK PREVENTED DRIVER DOOR FROM BEING OPENED. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE HIGHLANDER WAS PURCHASED 1/4/2010. THE ACCELERATOR RECALL WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER IN MARCH 2010.

I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER 4 CYLINDER THAT HAS AN ENGINE WHICH IS ACCELERATING AND SURGING DESPITE THAT IT HAS RECEIVED THE RECALL "FIX" FOR THE RECENT GAS PEDAL RECALL. EVEN AFTER THE RECALL MODIFICATION TO THE GAS PEDAL, THE ENGINE'S TACHOMETER JUMPS (OFTEN UP TO 5000 RPM) WHILE TRAVELING AT A STEADY SPEED OR NOT ACCELERATING. THE PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY TIME IT IS DRIVEN AND IS EASILY DUPLICATED. MY LOCAL DEALER SERVICE HAD THE CAR FOR OVER 3 WEEKS AND WAS WORKING CLOSELY WITH TOYOTA CORP TECHNICIANS. THEY WERE ABLE TO REPRODUCE AND OBSERVE THE PROBLEM AND ACKNOWLEDGED IT. BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PRODUCING ANY DIAGNOSTIC "ERROR CODES" AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THIS VEHICLE. IN A STRANGE TWIST THEY RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME AND "CHANGED THEIR TUNE". THE DEALER THEN SAID TOYOTA TECH'S STATED IT WAS A NORMAL GEAR CHANGE FUNCTION AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE SURGING. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND I AM ABOUT TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND GO ANOTHER ROUND. PROBLEM OCCURS AT BOTH HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS, WITH AND WITHOUT USE OF CRUISE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 1 YEAR OLD AND THE ENGINE BEHAVIOR IS QUITE SCARY. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE MY WIFE AND CHILDREN GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE GET INVOLVED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER HYBRID. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, DURING BRAKING THERE WAS A DELAY IN THE RESPONSE TIME. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE IN OPERATION. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN IN AN IDLING POSITION THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE CAUSING A JERKING MOTION TO OCCUR. ON DECEMBER 2, 2009, I TOOK DELIVERY OF A NEW 2010 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER SPORT MODEL, WITH A V-6 ENGINE AND 2 WHEEL DRIVE. THIS VEHICLE SUBSEQUENTLY WAS IDENTIFIED IN THE JANUARY & FEBRUARY, 2010 RECALL NOTICES AS BEING ONE OF THE VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THE STICKING GAS PEDAL PROBLEM. HOWEVER, PRECEDING THE RECALL NOTICES, ON JANUARY 15, 2010, I EXPERIENCED A BRAKE PEDAL FADE WHILE STOPPED ON LEVEL FLAT GROUND AT A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL. I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDER TO ENSURE THAT I DID NOT DRIFT INTO THE REAR END OF THE CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. UPON PRESSING DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE "HILL ASSIST" WARNING BUZZER SOUNDED EVEN THOUGH MY WHEELS WERE NOT SPINNING OR IN DANGER OF SPINNING. WHEN THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL CHANGED TO GREEN A MINUTE OR SO LATER, I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND LIGHTLY DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO START MOVING FORWARD. I FOUND THAT I HAD TO APPLY SUBSTANTIAL ( GREATER THAN NORMAL) PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO MAKE THE CAR MOVE FORWARD. THIS CAUSED GREAT CONCERN BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF MOVING FORWARD TOO QUICKLY FROM A DEAD STOP AND HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY SELLING DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED OUT. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE CAR'S COMPUTER DID NOT SHOW ANY DEFAULTS AND THAT ALL SYMPTOMS WERE NORMAL. I WAS FURTHER ADVISED TO STOP PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL SO HARD. HOWEVER, MY CONCERN IS THAT WHENEVER THE "HILL ASSIST" SYSTEM IS ENGAGED (I CAN ENGAGE IT AT ANY TIME AT WILL), THERE IS A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY THAT THE EXTRA PRESSURE NEEDED TO START THE CAR MOVING FORWARD WILL CAUSE ME TO ACCELERATE INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THIS CONDITION IS COMPUTER RELATED AND PRESENTS AN IMMINENT DANGER TO BOTH MYSELF AND OTHER MOTORISTS DRIVING A SIMILAR EQUIPPED TOYOTA HIGHLANDER THEREFORE, I AM REQUESTING THAT AN INVESTIGATION BE COMMENCED IMMEDIATELY IN LIGHT OF TOYOTA'S MASSIVE RECALL PROBLEMS. ON PENNSYLVANIA TPKE TOYOTA HIGHLANDER 2010 MODEL BOUGHT A MONTH AGO JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AFTER AN HOUR DRIVE, CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE TURNED THE HEADLIGHTS ON, HE COULD NOT SEE OBJECTS ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND VARIOUS SPEEDS IF HE HIT A DIP OR CURVE IN THE ROAD, THE VISIBILITY WOULD DROP TO LESS THAN 2 FEET IN FRONT OF HIM. HE NOTICED THE ISSUE DIFFERENCE WHENEVER HE HAD TO USE THE HEADLIGHTS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO FILE A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60. UPDATED 03/19/10. *LJ THE WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO HAIRLINE CRACKS FORMING, THE HEATED SEATS WERE NOT HEATING PROPERLY, THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED AND THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD BLINK INTERMITTENTLY.
