The frame has failed and is well beyond unsafe for the road due to the amount of rust and decay. The vehicle was part of the 'Corrosion Resistance Compound Application to Vehicle Frame' recall. I will bring the vehicle for inspection ASAP, if requested. There is absolutely nothing safe when a vehicle has a faulty structural issue. When I purchased the vehicle there were step rails and spray painted portions of the frame, the parts you could see. Also, when looking up the vehicle, I didn't see any recall issues at that time and thought it was a good sign. After driving it for 6th months, I started feeling a slight resistance feel when accelerating and turning at the same time. I took it to a mechanic and they delivered the news that the frame was deemed unfit for the roads. I found out that the vehicle was brought in for the recall when it came out and at that time the frame was labeled 'not exchangeable' and a slight bandage was applied to the unsafe defective body component that was sold as 'safe.' I filed a claim with a local dealership and they told me that it was still safe for roads. Right now, the frame clips and portions of the frame are visibly rusting off, visible from solely walking up to the truck. Reaching out to Toyota I am very much hoping that the care for their loyal customers equally matches the product that they produce, superior to the competition. I have owned a Toyota for 10 years and never considered purchasing anything else for life, however, coming to a fair solution on this issue will have a tremendous effect on that statement I know to be true, right now. This truck is in OUTSTANDING condition with VERY little rust to the actually black body of the vehicle and had ONLY 165,000 miles on it. Please don't allow this vehicle to be absent for the roads due to an issue that was already agreed that it needed correcting. Please allow myself to continue to feel that Toyota makes an outstanding product because they care about the customer.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. After a visual inspection of the exterior of the vehicle, the contact observed extreme corrosion on the sub frame. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed the corrosion of the sub frame and deemed the vehicle unsafe for driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 130,000.

The frame is rusting out substantially. The dealer advised me not to drive because the frame could fail at anytime. I have been driving around unaware of the problem. I could have been killed if the framed failed on the highway. There was no warning light. The Vehicle has been into the dealer and no one mentioned the problem until 08/30/2024. The Vehicle has been maintained and garaged. The vehicle is in good condition and has not been in an accident. I called Toyota and was told I was out of luck because the warranty expired even though the frame problem was Toyotas fault. A truck frame should outlast the engine and the body. I plan to keep the truck for 400,00 miles and my finances are very tight. Toyota is penalizing me because the frame didn't rust out sooner and on Toyotas time frame.

I got a recall on my 2005 Toyota frame for rust problem. I took it to magness Toyota in Harrison Arkansas they checked the frame and said it was ok. 2 years later when I had my 2005 toyota serviced they found on both sides the frame was severely rusted through and can and will be a dangerous circumstance

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF LA CROSSE (800 3RD ST S, LA CROSSE, WI 54601) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA, I TOOK IT TO WHITE RIVER TOYOTA, 303 SYKES MOUNTAIN AVENUE, WHITE RIVER JUNCTION VT 05001 802-299-2880 FOR SOME RECALL WORK, THEY WERE UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL WORK ON THE LEAF SPRINGS BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS SO ROTTED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD ATTACH THE LEAF SPRINGS TO, IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A WARRANTY FOR THE FRAME THAT HAD EXPIRED ON 1/31/19 AND THEY WERE NO LONGER ABLE TO HELP ME. MY TRUCK HAS 25,125 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT, THE BODY AND ENGINE ARE IN GREAT SHAPE, BUT THE FRAME IS JUNK. I HAD NOTICED SOME INSTABILITY IN THE HANDLING OF THE TRUCK ABOUT A WEEK PRIOR AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LEAF SPRINGS AS WELL AS THE FRAME.

The differential drive housing failed due to corrosion resulting in the differential oil leaking out at a significant rate and in loss of lubrication of the differential gears. The condition was detected before any significant loss of material condition or function but could have lead to a loss of vehicle control if the differential had failed. The local Toyota Dealer has not reviewed the condition as of yet. A review of several Tacoma internet forum sights finds similar corrosion failures described (oil leaking from differential housing). There is no monitoring/warning indicator for the oil level condition in the differential housing in this vehicle.

SQUIRK-LIKE SOUND AT THE BEGINNING OF A TRIP, SPECIFICALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE REACHES 5 MPH. THIS NOISE PREVAILS AS LONG AS THE SPEED IS INCREASED, SPECIFICALLY ALONG THE RANGE OF 5 TO 15 MPH. FROM 16 MPH IT STARTS A VIBRATION ALONG THE ENTIRE VEHICLE BODY, WHICH AUGMENTS AS LONG AS THE SPEED IS INCREASED. THESE SYMPTOMS APPEARED FOR FIRST TIME 5 YEARS AGO, APPROXIMATELY. ON THAT FIRST EVENT THE PROPELLER SHAFT SPIDER ANT THEIR BEARINGS WERE REPLACED BY THE TECHNICIAN WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT. NOWADAYS I JUST SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER TOYOTA AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER FOR PROPER DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. IT IS NECESSARY TO HIGHLIGHT THAT THIS AUTOMOTIVE UNIT PRESENTED SYMPTOMS OF VIBRATION AT CRUISE SPEED (55 MPH), SINCE THE VERY FIRST TIME IT WAS DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY, FOR THE YEAR OF 2005. WHEN THAT OCCURRED, THIS DRIVER BROUGHT THE UNIT TO THE DEALER. THE RESPONSE WAS THAT THE VIBRATION DESCRIBED IS "NORMAL". THIS STRANGE "SHAKING" AT CRUISE SPEED HAS NOT DISAPPEARED. IT THINK IT IS A DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING DEFECT OF THE PROPELLER SHAFTS AND THEIR JOINTS, WHICH CAUSE A DYSFUNCTIONAL PROPELLER SHAFT RUNOUT (GREATER THAN 0.6MM [0.024 IN.]). OTHER TACOMA 2005 OWNERS HAVE LET ME KNOW THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME SITUATION IN THEIR VEHICLES. THIS COULD REPRESENT A POTENTIAL SAFETY RISK FOR ALL VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE CLUTCH PEDAL TURN SPRING WAS DEFECTIVE. AS A RESULT, THE CLUTCH PEDAL CAUSED THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER ROD TO BEND. Frame failure due to rust. Suspension is detached with springs hitting frame. NOTE: fuel tank partially detached previously due to rusted brackets 3-4 years ago and all components were replaced. Filed NHTSA report at that time however had technical issues completing… Still have photos.

THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRAME AND IN 2015 MY FATHER-IN-LAW OWNED THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT INSPECTED AND ALL I KNOW IS IT PASSED. HE IS DECEASED NOW AND I OWN THE VEHICLE AND RECURVED NOTIFICATION ABOUT A RECALL ON THE REAR SPRINGS SO MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS TO RUSTED TO SAFELY TAKE SPRINGS OFF TO REPLACE. THE FRAME RECALL HAS EXPIRED BUT THE SPRING RECALL IS STILL IN EFFECT. SO I FEEL THAT TO FIX THE SAFETY ISSUE THEY SHOULD FIX THE FRAME SO THAT THEY CAN FIX THE SPRINGS TO SOLVE THE SAFETY ISSUE. ANY ADVICE OR HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Rusty Frame Issue Toyota Tacoma had a warranty enchantment program that expired in 01/31/2019 . I took the Tacoma July 18 2022 to the dealership for regular maintenance and they told me “THE TECH NOTICED 2 LARGES HOLES IN THE FRAME WHICH IS GOING TO COMPROMISE THE STRENGTH OF THE FRAME”. When I asked why they didn’t change the frame during the inspection back in 2015 if they knew it was going to be a problem. They refused to give a good answer. I took the Tacoma to the dealership back in 2015 for a frame inspection the nonprofessional inspector chose not change the frame. I contacted Toyota Motor Sales USA and basically was told they couldn’t do anything because the warranty enchantment program already expired. I understand that the warranty enchantment program has expired but I don’t understand how I have full responsibility when I did my part as the customer by taking my Tacoma during the time window of the warranty enchantment program. This is not safe for me, my family of the citizens. I believe there are going to be many more Toyota pickups with this problem.

We took our truck to a mechanic to have it looked over before our 18 year old son takes it to college. The mechanic said the frame had so much rust it is unsafe to keep driving it. Once I searched for this problem, Toyota had an extended warranty to cover it, but a recall had never been issued. Therefore, we did not know about it and the warranty time period is up. UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ON 3 OCCASIONS. 12/23/19, 12/24/19 & 2/22/20. SEEMS TO HAPPEN DURING SLOW CREEPY SPEED WITH FOOT ACTION ON THE BRAKE IN SLOW TRAFFIC OR GOING THRU A PARKING LOT. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO BE PREPARED FOR THIS TO PUT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE, SLAM IN PARK AND TURN OFF IGNITION DUE TO A SIMILAR OCCURRENCE ON 10/7/19. IF NOT PREPARED IT COULD EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. IT BOTHERS ME HOW RANDOM THIS OCCURS FOR NO REASON.WITH FOOT NOWHERE NEAR OR ON THE GAS PEDAL. VEHICLE ACTS LIKE YOU SLAMMED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR.

I WAS TRAVELING DOWN AN INTERSTATE WHEN A REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. THE TIRE IS A TOYO CROSS COUNTRY A/T. HE TIRE SEPARATED COMPLETELY LEAVING THE SIDEWALLS ON THE RIM AND THE TREAD & BELTS & REST OF THE TIRE TORE OFF IN ONE PIECE. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT/ INJURY. I LOOKED UP RECALLS AND FOUND THERE IS A RECALL. I DID NOT RECEIVE A NOTICE. I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT TOYO AND BEEN ON HOLD FOR OVER AN HOUR AT A TIME, LEFT MESSAGE WITHOUT RETURN CALL. THE TIRES HAVE LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON THEM. I AM NOW VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE THREE REMAINING TIRES. THERE WAS ONLY MINOR PROPERTY DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK. *JB

I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA X RUNNER. THERE ARE CRACKS ACROSS THE TREADS OF AT LEAST TWO OF THE FOUR TIRES ON THE TRUCK (BRIDGESTONE POTENZA TIRES). I WENT TO A BRIDGESTONE SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME TO DRIVE ACROSS THE STREET AND TALK TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH CRACKS ACROSS THE ENTIRE TREAD FACE. EVERY TIME I TURN THE IGNITION TO START MY ENGINE THE GAS GAUGE TAKES ABOUT 15 SECONDS TO RESPOND. MOST FREQUENTLY THAN NOT, THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE COOLANT GAUGE DO NOT WORK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. WHEN I GET TO MY DESTINATION AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE, AND RESTART, THE GAUGES WORK (SOMETIMES). I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT IT, AND THEY CLAIM THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND IT WOULD COST $1000.00 TO REPLACE THE MAIN HARNESS THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE TACHOMETER, AND THE ODOMETER WORK JUST FINE. I DO FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, CONSIDERING SOMETIMES I DO NOT KNOW WHAT MY SPEED IS, OR IF MY ENGINE IS GETTING TO HOT, AND OVER HEATING, CAUSING DAMAGE TO IT. THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR MADE A CRACKING SOUND WHEN I ROTATED IT DOWN TO BLOCK THE SUN. ATTEMPTS TO PUSH IT FORWARD TO THE WINDSHIELD FAILED AND IT DROPPED DOWN VERTICAL BLOCKING MY VISION OF THE ROAD. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE SUN VISOR BACK TO ITS STORED LOCATION SO I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND REMOVE THE SUN VISOR WITH A SCREWDRIVER. THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO OUR 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY. AND WE HAD TO REMOVE THE VISOR ON THE ROAD. THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE 2010 SO IT WAS REPAIRED. REMOVING THE FABRIC ON THE TACOMA SUN VISOR I FOUND A METAL PLATE ON THE ROTATING ARM THAT WAS FROZEN AND IT HAD SPLIT THE PLASTIC HOUSING. I FOUND THE SAME DESIGN WITH THE CAMRY SUN VISOR. AND IT WAS ALSO FROZEN AND WOULD NOT FREELY ROTATE. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE SUN VISORS. THE SERVICE MANAGER WOULD NOT LOOK AT THE EXPOSED INNER WORKINGS OF THE SUN VISOR. WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT THE TOYOTA HOTLINE SAID TO BRING BOTH VEHICLES IN AND THE DEALERSHIP MAY REPAIR BOTH. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE HAD WORKED WITH THEM FOR YEARS AND THEY DO NOT SAY THAT BUT GIVE YOU A REFERENCE NUMBER. THIS IS THE SECOND RUN IN WITH THE SAME DEALERSHIP. WHEN I BROUGHT IN THE CAMRY THEY WANTED ME TO PROVIDE PROOF OF THE AGREED ON EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS REPAIR. I FOUND ON THE TOYOTA FORUMS THAT THERE IS MANY ISSUES WITH TOYOTA'S DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR. AFTER READING A NEWS ARTICLE ABOUT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN 2005 -07 TACOMA PICKUPS, I WAS REMINDED OF AN INCIDENT I HAD A FEW MONTHS BACK. INDEED MY TACOMA SURGED WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I REALIZED MY FOOT WAS ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD TO PICK UP MY FOOT AND RE-APPLY THE BRAKE. THERE WAS NO MALFUNCTION ON THE CAR'S PART, BUT THE PEDALS ARE POSITIONED TOO CLOSE, AND AT THE SAME DISTANCE FROM THE FLOORBOARD, WHICH MAKES IT MUCH TOO EASY TO PRESS THEM AT THE SAME TIME. THIS SHOULD INDEED BE REMINDED, FOR IT IS A REAL PROBLEM. IT IS EASY A THE DRIVER TO ASSUME THAT THEY ARE ONLY PRESSING THE BRAKE BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL REQUIRES MORE PRESSURE THAN THE ACCELERATOR. THE HEAD GASKET HAS CAUSED COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE CYLINDER. ACCORDING TO MANY OTHER OWNERS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 AND 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA 4.0L V6 ENGINES AND THE HEAD GASKET WAS FINALLY REVISED IN 2007

FRAME CRACKED AT THE MOTOR MOUNT WELDS, SPECIFICALLY THE DRIVERS (RIGHT) SIDE MOTOR MOUNT. CAUSES THE MOTOR TO DROP DOWN LEADING TO A SERIOUS, AND DANGEROUS CONDITION OF HAVING THE MOTOR FALL OUT. THIS PROBLEM IS MOST NOTICEABLE DURING DRIVING CONDITIONS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130.000.

2005 TOYOTA TACOMA FIRST ISSUE IS THE STEERING, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE TURNING THE STEERING HAS "LOCKED UP" , THE STEERING GETS EXTREMITY HARD TO TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. AFTER MY OWN RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THE UNIVERSAL JOINT ON THE STEERING SHAFT WILL LOCK UP OR GET EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN IF NOT GREASED. THE JOINT IS OPEN TO THE ELEMENTS AND HAS NO PROTECTIVE BOOT OVER IT. THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE FROM TOYOTA FOR THE JOINT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. IF THE OPERATOR DOES NOT HAVE THE UPPER BODY STRENGTH TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN WHEN THE JOINT LOCKS UP IT MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS ISSUE IS OFTEN MISDIAGNOSED BY MECHANICS CAUSE EXPENSIVE UNNECESSARY REPAIRS (NEW STEERING RACK). THE SECOND ISSUE IS FRAME RUST. THE FRAMES ARE A POOR DESIGN, HAVE NO PROTECTIVE COATING AND ARE MADE OF INFERIOR METAL. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH FOR "TACOMA FRAME RUST" WILL SHOW PLENTY OF HORROR STORIES OF FRAMES LITERALLY RUSTING AWAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK. THE OLDEST 2ND GENERATION TACOMAS (2005 PRODUCTION YEAR) ARE NOW 9 YEARS OLD, A FRAME ON A 9 YEAR OLD VEHICLE HAVING RUST ISSUES IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. ALONG WITH THE FRAMES RUSTING AWAY ALL COMPONENTS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME CAN FAIL. (LEAF SPRINGS, SHOCKS, MOTOR MOUNTS ETC). CONSUMERS WERE LED TO BELIEVE THE FRAME RUST ISSUES WERE CORRECTED ON THE SECOND GENERATION TACOMAS BUT THEY WERE NOT. AS OF NOW TOYOTA IS HANDLING FRAME RUST ISSUES ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS. SOME PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING TO GET NEW FRAMES AND SOME PEOPLE ARE LEFT WITH A TRUCK THAT IS RUSTING AWAY WITH NO HELP FROM TOYOTA. THE SUN VISORS, FIRST ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, THEN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, MADE A CRUNCHING SOUND WHEN PULLED DOWN TO BLOCK THE SUN AND, AFTERWARD, WOULD NOT HOLD ITSELF IN ITS UPWARD POSITION. AT FIRST, IT WAS MERELY ANNOYING, SINCE IT DIDN'T BLOCK MUCH OF MY VIEW OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD, BUT WITHIN A MONTH IT WOULD NOT HOLD ITSELF UP AT ALL, WHICH BLOCKED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MY FORWARD VIEW OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE 2 LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS WERE NOT INTERESTED IN REPLACING THEM, AS MY TACOMA HAD 50,000 MILES ON IT (STANDARD WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36,000). I EVENTUALLY REMOVED BOTH SUN VISORS, SINCE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH THEM BLOCKING 50% OR MORE OF MY FORWARD VIEW. REPLACEMENTS FROM TOYOTA COST $100 EACH, I DID NOT REPLACE THEM, MAINLY BECAUSE THEY WERE OF THE SAME DESIGN AND I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THEY WOULD LAST ANY LONGER. I DISASSEMBLED (DESTRUCTIVELY IS THE ONLY WAY TO DO SO) ONE OF THE BROKEN VISORS AND DISCOVERED THAT THE VISOR PIVOTS ON A SHORT METAL SHAFT. ON THIS SHAFT IS A, ROUGHLY, C-SHAPED METAL CLIP INSIDE A PLASTIC HOUSING. THE CLIP APPEARS TO HOLD THE TENSION NECESSARY TO KEEP THE VISOR IN PLACE. THE PLASTIC HOUSING, IN TURN, CONNECTS THE METAL CLIP TO THE REST OF THE VISOR. HOWEVER, THE PLASTIC HOUSING AROUND THE CLIP WAS BROKEN, ALLOWING THE CLIP TO ROTATE WITHIN AND THE VISOR TO DROOP. THERE IS NO FIX TO REPAIR THIS PLASTIC HOUSING AS THE FABRIC TRIM HAS TO BE REMOVED TO ACCESS IT. REPLACEMENT OF THE VISOR ASSEMBLY IS THE ONLY OPTION. *TR

THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER SHIELD ON MY 2005 TACOMA FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. AFTER PICKING UP THE LARGE METAL PARTS AND INSPECTING UNDER THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT NEAR TO WHERE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER SITS, THAT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON THE TRUCK'S FRAME AND EVEN A LARGE HOLE. BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE REPLACED AND THE NOISE SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN FIXED. AT A LATER DATE, I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THAT THE PROBLEM RETURNED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY HAD COMPLETED EVERYTHING THE COULD BASED ON TOYOTA'S GUIDANCE. I REQUESTED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS BE REPLACED AGAIN SINCE IT SEEMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ELIMINATED WHEN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE REPLACED ORIGINALLY. HE CHECKED WITH THE REGIONAL TECHNICAL REP WHO SAID TO GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THE EQUIPMENT A SECOND TIME, AND THIS WAS DONE. THE NOISE RETURNED SHORTLY THEREAFTER. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM AND THEY STATED THAT NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE AND PROVIDED ME WITH THE TOYOTA COMPLAINT HOTLINE NUMBER. EXHAUST POOR ENGINEERING. THE CROSSOVER PIPE ON THE EXHAUST IS THE LOWEST POINT OF THE VEHICLE. IT HANGS DOWN BELOW THE TRANSFERCASE MOUNT. THIS WILL GET CRUSHED IF TAKEN OFF ROAD. I BOUGHT A 4 X 4 TRD MODEL FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF TAKING IT OFF-ROAD. A CRUSHED OR DAMAGED CROSSOVER PIPE COULD RESULT IN CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING OR EVEN DEATH. The driver side seat belt does not go up and down to adjust position. It is attached to the access door. By not being able to adjust it from going up and down, it makes it hard to strap it into place next to the seat. This may wear out the sides of the seat belt in time. I have not had a Toyota dealer look at it yet. Thanks.

I own a 2005 Toyota Tacoma xtra cab with 140445 miles on it. When it had 36000 miles I noticed the driver side seatbelts wearing down that was in 2011 . It’s just me so the passenger side is still good. I contacted Toyota about this problem asking them if there were any recalls or any complaints about the seatbelt wearing down. I was told no complaints. I told them my safety concerns they agreed on having my local dealership take care of the problem. It took some convincing to have it approved. So now I’m having the same issue again I haven’t contacted them yet. I just hope they will fix the problem again. Like I told the person I spoke to none of my other many vehicles have had a safety belt wearing down on the sides. It could be a poor design that’s causing it but none the less it’s needs to be corrected.

BOUGHT TRUCK IN VIRGINIA AND BROUGHT TO SOUTH CAROLINA IN 2016. SOON AFTER I GOT RECALL ON FRAME RUST. DAVE EDWARDS TOYOTA SPARTANBURG, SC INSPECTED AND DOCUMENTED "OK". NEEDING TO SELL TRUCK IN 2019 I CLEANED/SCRAPED FRAME AND REMOVED 6 POUNDS OF RUST FROM ONLY 1/2 OF THE TRUCK--TOOK TRUCK AND PICTURES IN TO DAVE EDWARDS AND THEY LOOKED AT PICTURES AND REFUSED TO LOOK AT TRUCK OR DO REPAIRS TO FRAME OR LEAF SPRINGS (ON RECALL). SO, I SPENT $20,000 ON A TRUCK THAT THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CONDEMN. SO, IS TRUCK UNSAFE TO DRIVE? WILL TOYOTA BE RESPONSIBLE IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO TRUCK, OR MY FAMILY, OR SOMEONE ELSE?

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE ! I THOUGHT SOME KIDS THREW. ROCK AT MY TRUCK! THAT IS WHAT IT SOUNDED LIKE TO ME. A LOUD WHACK!! LOOKED AROUND,SAW NO ONE. I LATER READ AFTER RECEIVING NOTICE FROM TOYOTA ABOUT A LEAF SPRING RECALL. THIS WAS ONE OF THE SYMPTOMS THAT WAS REPORTED BY OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. TOOK IT IN FOR AN INSPECTION AND THEY CALLED ME A DAY LATER AND THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THAT IT NEEDED A NEW FRAME! SAID I NEEDED TO LEAVE IT THERE ,SINCE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND GAVE ME A COROLLA TO DRIVE. DROPPED IT OFF JAN 4,2016. I STOPPED INTO THE SERVICE DEPT 7 WEEKS LATER TO SEE IF THE FRAME WAS IN YET AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS ON ORDER. AFTER FURTHER QUESTIONING THE ADMITTED TO ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FRAMES HAD TO GET SO MANY ORDERS ON RECORD TO EVEN GET STARTED PRODUCING THEM. I HAVE A TRUCK THAT I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE!!

MY TRUCK FRAME IS RUSTING ABNORMALLY. TOYOTAS OFFICIAL INSPECTION FOUND NO HOLES >10MM.- NO FURTHER ACTION. THE FRAME IS BAD. THE CORROSION I WOULD GUESS IS SECONDARY TO BAD STEEL-NOT ENOUGH NICKEL? IS THERE A STANDARD FOR STEEL IN THIS APPLICATION? I NEED YOUR HELP. I CANT GET TOYOTA TO DO THE RIGHT THING ON MY OWN. MUCH SOONER THAN IT SHOULD THIS VEHICLE WILL BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I MEAN A WELL MAINTAINED CAR (WHICH THIS IS) SHOULDNT BE HAVING THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. I MEAN THE FRAME IS ROTTING AWAY. SOMETHING VERY WRONG FROM THE BEGINNING. DANA MFG.? THE STEERING IN MY TOYOTA TACOMA BEGAN TO BIND SUDDENLY WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. UPON INSPECTION BY THE DEALERSHIP, THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND STEERING YOKE BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT PART APPEARS TO BE AN UPDATED PART WITH A RUBBER BOOT TO PREVENT CORROSION OF THE SHAFT JOINTS. I BELIEVE THE FAILURE OF THE ORIGINAL PART WAS DUE TO POOR DESIGN, CAUSING THE PART TO BEGIN TO FAIL. IF NOT REPLACED AND THE SHAFT OR SHAFT JOINT HAD BROKEN AT SPEED, THIS CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. *TR

WITHIN A YEAR OF PURCHASE, THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS BECAME SOFT AND THE TRUCK BOTTOMED OUT ON BUMPS. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER (HADDADS, PITTSFIELD, MA) AND THEY REFUSED TO SERVICE IT CLAIMING NOTHING WAS WRONG. I LATER TOOK IT TO A SPRINGFIELD DEALERSHIP AND RECEIVED THE SAME ANSWER. I THEN TOOK IT TO SUPERIOR SPRING IN PITTSFIELD. THEY FOUND BOTH SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY, CLAIMING I HAD OVER LOADED THE TRUCK. I HAD NOT EVER CARRIED MORE THAN A FEW HUNDRED LBS IN THE BED OF THIS 1/2 TON TRUCK. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK SINCE NEW AND BEEN THE SOLE OPERATOR. A FEW WEEKS AGO THE STEERING BECAME STICKY. MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT AT A COST OF $400. HE STATED THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THE VEHICLE FOR THIS BECAUSE HE SEES THIS PART FAIL OFTEN DUE TO POOR CONSTRUCTION. AS THE DRIVER APPROACHED A RED LIGHT, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE. HE PLANNED TO GET THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, PULL OVER TO INVESTIGATE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, HE ACCELERATED AND THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL POPPED OFF THE AXLE AND ROLLED AWAY. THE TRUCK FELL AND HIT THE PAVEMENT. UPON INVESTIGATION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THREE LUGS BROKE OFF SIMULTANEOUSLY AND WERE NOT LOCATED AT THE SCENE. TWO LUGS REMAINED BUT BROKE OFF WHEN THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE. THE VEHICLE HAD FOUR NEW TIRES INSTALLED ON 12/27/12, AND OIL CHANGE AND NEW BRAKES INSTALLED ON 12/31/12. AT THE TIME THAT WORK WAS DONE, THE MECHANICS DID NOT OBSERVE ANY ISSUES WITH THE LUGS. THE WHEELS ARE ALLOY AFTERMARKET INSTALLED BY THE DEALER BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD. THE VEHICLE HAD JUST EXITED THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A BUILDING. I WAS GOING APPROX. 1-3 MPH DUE TO THE LOT BEING WET & HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. WHEN I WAS ALMOST TO THE CONCRETE CURB, THE TRUCK SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING. I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE & SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING FULL THROTTLE, SO I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. BEFORE MOVING, I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE NOTHING WAS TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, WHICH WAS THE CASE. I WAS SLOWLY TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF THE GAS PEDAL. MY TRUCK SHOT LIKE A BULLET (ABOUT 40-45 FEET) INTO THE CORNER OF MY HOUSE AND DECK. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT SHEARED A 6X6 DECK CORNER POST, KNOCKED THE GARAGE SMALL ENTRY DOOR COMPLETELY LOOSE FROM IT'S FRAME, AND DID EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO A SOLID BRICK WALL, AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF GARAGE. LUCKILY, I DID STILL HAVE MY SEAT BELT FASTENED; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I FILED A CLAIM WITH TOYOTA, THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR, AND NOW HAVE DENIED THAT THERE WAS ANY MALFUNCTION. I AM 100% SURE THAT THE ACCELERATION WAS NOT "DRIVER'S ERROR" AND THAT THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE HERE AND TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. THE BODY DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK HAS BEEN REPAIRED, BUT I WILL BE GETTING RID OF IT. THE CONVERSATIONS I HAVE HAD WITH THE PEOPLE AT TOYOTA'S HEADQUARTERS IN TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA HAVE CERTAINLY BEEN MOST UNPLEASANT AND HAVE LEFT ME WITH A VERY BAD OPINION OF TOYOTA AS A COMPANY. THERE HAS BEEN "RECALL' ON THESE VEHICLES REGARDING EXCESSIVE FRAME RUSTING. THIS CAR WAS "INSPECTED" AND FOUND NOT TO HAVE A DEFECT. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE BRAKES FAILED DUE TO BRAKE LINE RUST THOUGH. THE BRAKE LINE (FRONT BRAKES) WITH THE PROBLEM WAS MOUNTED ON THE FRAME. THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN I WAS EXITING A PARKING LOT AND DESCENDING A SHORT HILL TO THE MAIN STREET. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE IT ENTERED THE STREET BUT FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AT THE TIME.

IT WAS CLEAR AND DRY ON THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT. THE HOV LANE WAS DRY AND NEWLY PAVED. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65-60 MPG WHEN I SAW BRAKE LIGHTS. I BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND STEP ON THE BRAKES AT ABOUT 300 FEET. SUDDENLY, I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WAS NOT STOPPING, BUT RATHER THAT IT HAD ALREADY STOPPED! AT APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET AWAY FROM THE CAR, I PRESSED MY BRAKE PETAL TO THE FLOOR. AT 20 FEET BEHIND HIM, I SAID TO MYSELF THAT MY VEHICLE HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO STOP BEFORE HITTING HIM. BUT SOMETHING HAPPENED AT THIS POINT. IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE WAS PUSHING MY VEHICLE FROM THE BACK (IT WAS NOT BEING PUSHED), OR THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, OR THAT THE ABS SYSTEM RELEASED THE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES. THE RESULT WAS THAT I REAR-ENDED THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH OUR AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, NEITHER I NOR MY PASSENGER HAD CONTACT WITH THE AIRBAGS. I WAS PROBABLY GOING LESS THAN 15 MPH AT IMPACT. WHEN BRAKING, I NEVER FELT THE TATTLE-TELL FEELING OF A PULSATING BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE ABS SYSTEM GOES INTO EFFECT. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS SYSTEM IN THE PAST WHEN DRIVING IN 4-WHEEL DRIVE IN SNOW AND DRIVING OFF ROAD. THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD TAKE THE BRAKING CONTROL AWAY FROM ME, WHICH HAS CAUSED SOME PROBLEMS. THIS HAPPENED IN 2009 (OFF ROAD) AND 2010 IN DEEP SNOW. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO EXAMINE MY BRAKING AND ABS SYSTEM. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. IF THE ABS IS AT FAULT, THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2010 AND THE FIRST TIME ON DRY ROAD. THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR MY VEHICLE SAY THAT IT ONLY TAKES 126 FEET TO MAKE A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND SOLD BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THEY WILL HOLD IT FOR ONLY 4 DAYS FOR INVESTIGATION. THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED AND SERVICED FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. I BOUGHT A TACOMA 3 MONTHS AFTER TOYOTA WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (ZTZ) NO POL 14-03 DATE 06/25/14 PRIMARY COVERAGE ENDED ON NOV. 30 2015. THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE BURN, AND CRACKED ,THE INSIDE LENS, INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT UNIT. I HAD THEM LOOKED AT ,AND PICTURES WERE TAKEN OF BOTH BURNED HEADLIGHTS. THEY SENT THE INFO TO SERVCO HAWAII 1-888-272-5515 AND 3 WEEKS LATER ON 03/11/2016 WAS TOLD THEY DENIED ME FOR THE FREE REPLACEMENT. I HAD TALKED TO THE GUY I HAD GOTTEN THE TRUCK FROM AND HE SAID HE HAD NEVER GOTTEN A LETTER FROM TOYOTA, FOR THE LIGHT PROBLEM OR HE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE FREE REPLACEMENT DONE. STARTED HEARING RUBBING/GRINDING TYPE NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END. INSPECTED AND FOUND LF CV AXLE LEAKING GREASE, SO THOUGHT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THERE. REPLACED LF CV AXLE, AND THE NOISE DID NOT GO AWAY. INSPECTED FURTHER AND FOUND DRIVERS SIDE FRAME WHERE THE MOTOR MOUNT BRACKET IS WELDED TO CRACKED, CAUSING THE MOTOR TO FLEX AND THE FAN TO RUB ON THE FAN SHROUD. CONTACTED TOYOTA, WHO INSTRUCTED ME TO GET IT INSPECTED AT A DEALERSHIP. TOOK TO TOYOTA DEALER, WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF DRIVER ABUSE, NO RUST, NOT REALLY ANYTHING THAT SHOWED WHY THE WELD HAD BROKEN, BUT THAT TOYOTA DID NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING DUE TO AFTERMARKET LIFT AND OVERSIZED TIRED. LIFT WAS ALREADY INSTALLED ON VEHICLE WHEN PURCHASED AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. TOYOTA CORPORATE TOLD ME THEY DID NOT WANT TO HELP BECAUSE VEHICLE IS OUT OF FACTORY WARRANTY. THE STEERING SHAFT IS DIRECTLY UNDER THE PART OF THE MOTOR THAT IS SAGGING DOWN, AND I AM AFRAID IF IT WERE TO BREAK COMPLETELY IT MIGHT STOP THE VEHICLE FROM BEING ABLE TO TURN. OUR 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA'S GAS TANK HAD FALLEN OFF THE FRAME DUE TO CORRODED STRAPS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT SLOW SPEED ON OUR PROPERTY. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 140,000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS NO SERIOUS INJURY. HOWEVER, HAD THE TANK SEPARATED WHILE BEING DRIVEN IT IS VERY POSSIBLE AND PROBABLE THAT THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN IGNITION, FIRE, EXPLOSION AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THE DEALERSHIP HAD GIVEN US AN AN INITIAL ESTIMATE OF $1,800 OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS STATING THAT THE CORROSION IS 'PART OF WINTER DRIVING' THIS IS FAR FROM A PLAUSIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE EXPLANATION. GAS TANKS SHOULD NOT FALL OFF VEHICLES AND POSE SUCH A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY THREAT. TOYOTA CORPORATE REFUSED TO PAY FOR MORE THAN ROUGHLY $400 IN REPAIRS TO THE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. THE FINAL BILL OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES WERE $2,300 IN COSTS FOR REPAIR.

I RECENTLY OPENED A CORPORATE CASE AGAINST THE TOYOTA OF STUART DEALERSHIP. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST INCIDENT THAT I HAVE HAD WITH THEM, BUT THIS IS THE MOST RECENT. ON JULY 26, 2006, I NOTICED SOME GREASE ALL INSIDE THE RIM OF MY TIRE. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO TRY AND EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD, WE KNOW WHAT IT IS, WE WILL ORDER THE REAR SEALS AND CALL YOU WHEN THEY COME IN. NO ONE LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE!!! I WAS TOLD TO LEAVE AND I WOULD GET A PHONE CALL. ON JULY 27, 2006 AT 10:30 AM WHILE IN A LEFT HAND TURN, I APPLIED THE BRAKE LIGHTLY AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. THE TRUCK VERY QUICKLY SPUN AROUND AND BACKWARDS INTO A GUARD RAIL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE TRUCK BACK TO THEM. THEY ASSURED ME THAT BECAUSE OF THE GREASE ON THE WHEEL AND BEING MADE TO THINK THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED, FORTUNATELY ON A ROAD WITH MINIMAL TRAFFIC, NOT ON I-95. I OFTEN THINK ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED MYSELF, OR SOMEONE ELSE. I COULD HAVE HAD MY 5 YEAR OLD IN MY VEHICLE GOING TO CAMP. ANYTHING SERIOUS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. FORTUNATELY, IT DID NOT. AFTER BRINGING THE TRUCK IN AND MANY PHONE CALLS AND TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD AFTER TWO WEEKS, BY THE MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP THAT I NEEDED TO CALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THIS WAS SO MY INSURANCE WOULD PAY FOR THE DAMAGES. THIS IS TOTALLY WRONG. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN WORSE! IF THEY WOULD HAVE CHECKED MY VEHICLE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DEEMED UNFIT TO DRIVE. I AM NOT A MECHANIC. NOW THE DEALERSHIP WANTS MY $500.00 DEDUCTIBLE PAYMENT. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA 4 DOOR AND EVER SINCE TAKING IT OFF THE LOT 5 DAYS AGO, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES IN ANY WEATHER, ON ANY SURFACE OF ROAD, I GET A THUMPING IN THE PEDAL AND THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP. IT GETS WORSE WITH MORE PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKES. THE FRONT END SEEMS TO BOUNCE, AND FEELS LIKE IT WILL GO OUT OF CONTROL. THE TRUCK HAS 230 MILES ON IT, I WILL BE CALLING THE DEALER TODAY.

In May of 2018, I purchased a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. After arrival of new title, I received a safety recall notice from Toyota in regards to possible abnormal frame rust. I was instructed to take my Tacoma to nearest Toyota dealership for frame inspection. Prior to taking Tacoma in for frame inspection, I scoped the frame myself, and noticed abnormal rust forming throughout both sides of the frame. Therefore, I took my Tacoma to Berge Toyota in Mesa AZ. for further inspection and to have some other repairs done. Upon my arrival to Berge Toyota, l informed the service writer of the repairs that were needed done and showed him the request from Toyota for the frame inspection. My vehicle was taken to a lift, where a brief frame inspection was performed with a flashlight only and I was told the frame was fine, and the rust I had witnessed during my personal inspection was within a standard tolerance of "normal". On September 12, 2022 my frame cracked in a horseshoe formation around the driver side motor mount, causing the engine to shift and sink approx. 3/4" towards the driver side. This frame failure has caused numerous problems to occur, such as the fan to continuously rub against the shroud, abnormal shifting of the transmission, ramping up and down of RPM's, vehicle's steering locks up and cannot be safely driven, leaving me without transportation After detailed inspection was performed on my Tacoma, the horseshoe crack around the motor mount was found and it was determined this was the source of all the problems. I contacted Berge Toyota where I was informed by their service manager that Berge Toyota was not certified to do the frame inspection or repair, and further explained the safety recall had expired and instructed me to contact Toyota to see what could be done. The question I had for the Berge Toyota service manager, was if they were not certified to do the frame inspection, or repair why did they inspect my frame and inform me it was fine, when it wasn't?

My problem was associated with the air bag warning light. It came on and so I took my truck to Big Two Toyota in Chandler AZ. Dealer said I had a faulty clock spring assembly that will prevent the air bag system from functioning properly and was a major safety risk.... So I let Dealer remove and replace it for $511.82. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SAFETY RECALL.... Please look into this issue for me and other Toyota Tacoma truck owners. Thank you.

The frame of my truck failed at the motor mount. The motor mount has sunk into the frame shifting the motor and effecting performance and other parts. This can be confirmed by anyone. I never received recall information, I can’t find evidence of one issued for this year or my state.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG VIBRATION COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE U-JOINTS HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY LUBRICATED FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. THE DEALER (LEGACY TOYOTA, 3800 W TENNESSEE ST, TALLAHASSEE, FL 32304, (850) 688-9264) DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRES WERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE DRIVETRAIN AND THE U-JOINTS. THE CONTACT CONSTANTLY HAD TO LUBE THE U-JOINTS TO PREVENT DRYNESS, WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE DRIVETRAIN TO FRACTURE. THE CONTACT, A MECHANIC, REPLACED THE U-JOINTS AND TOOK THE DRIVESHAFT TO THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE PART, BUT NO REMEDY WAS PROVIDED. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED A SERVICE CAMPAIGN AND INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED; THEREFORE, THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE U-JOINTS AND THE DRIVESHAFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I HAVE HAD THE REAR END ON MY VEHICLE REPLACED 2X. NO HARD DRIVING. NO SIGNS OF ABUSE OR REGULAR WEAR BUT HAS COST ME OVER 2200 EACH TIME. THE HEAD GASKET HAVE NOW FAILED AND IN READING MANY ONLINE SITES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED AND NEVER OVER HEATED. THIS JOB IS NOW GOING TO COST ME 2500. IT STARTED A GURGLING NOISE IN THE DASH AND GOT WARM ONE DAY. THE ENGINE THEN THREW A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 4 A PRESSURE CHECK CONFIRMED THE HEAD GASKET. I HAD COMPLETE FAILURE TO MY RACK AND PINION STEERING DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION TO THE COMPONENT. I WAS PULLING INTO A BUSINESS DOING ABOUT 10 MPH AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP COMPLETELY. I CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR AND IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I CHECKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND ON THE GROUND WAS A PUDDLE OF STEERING FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND WHEN HE EXAMINED THE TRUCK TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED, HE STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION HAD COMPLETED ROTTED OUT AND BROKE. I ALSO HAD HIM CHECK THE FRAME ON MY TRUCK, SINCE I RECEIVED A TSB BULLETIN ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE CORROSION DUE TO NOT ENOUGH FRAME UNDERCOATING BEING APPLIED IN COLD STATES. HE FOUND A LARGE HOLE BEHIND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN THE FRAME. THE MECHANIC CHECKED THE REST OF THE FRAME AND FOUND SOME SMALLER PERFORATIONS AS WELL. MY QUESTIONS IS IF THE FRAME IS BEGINNING TO ROT AND THEY ARE SELECTIVELY REPLACING THE FRAMES OR VEHICLE IF THEY ARE A DANGER, WHY ARE NO OTHER COMPONENTS THAT ARE ATTACHED TO THESE FAILING PARTS COVERED AS WELL AND FAILING DUE TO EXCESSIVE ROT OR RUSTING. IF ANY OF THESE COMPONENTS FAILED DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON THE HIGHWAY AT NORMAL SPEED THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN DEVASTATING TO ALL INVOLVED, POSSIBLY LEADING TO SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. SOMETHING MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES THEY PRODUCE AND THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE WHO OWN AND OPERATE THEM. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND PUT THE GEAR IN DRIVE TO MOVE IT FORWARD. AS SOON AS I DROPPED IT INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD WITH THE THROTTLE APPEARING TO BE WIDE OPEN. I HAD MY FEET FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING, THE BACK WHEELS STARTED TO SLIP AND "CHIRP" SINCE THE REAR END IS LIGHT. WITH THE ACCELERATOR STILL WIDE OPEN, I PUT THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND WATCHED AS THE RPM'S SHOT OVER 4000. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE ACCELERATOR SHOWED NO SIGNS OF DISENGAGING, SO I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND PUT THE GEAR IN PARK. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, SO I AM ALWAYS READY IN CASE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I HAVE 2005 TACOMA 4X4 WITH A FRAME THAT CRACKED AND COLLAPSED INTO ITS SELF WERE THE LEFT MOTOR MOUNT IS WELDED TO THE FRAME. THE MOTOR CAME TO REST ON THE STEERING SHAFT KNUCKLE @ THE RACK AND PINION MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER. I CALLED TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY HAD HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. UPON RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE WEB THERE ARE WELL OVER 200 COMPLAINTS SAME PROBLEM. IN JUNE 2013 I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSTATE ENTRANCE RAMP. VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD SLIGHTLY WHEN STOPPED AT STOPLIGHT. HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY TIME I STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HAVING IT IN PARK MODE. THE SEVERITY OF THE SURGE SEEMS TO BE PROPORTIONAL WITH THE VELOCITY OF THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO STOPPING (I.E. SURGE IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN STOPPING FROM A HIGHER VELOCITY THAN FROM A LOWER VELOCITY). THE SURGE EVENT OCCURS ROUGHLY 2-3 SECONDS AFTER VEHICLE COMES TO A FULL STOP, AND LASTS PERHAPS 0.5 SECONDS THEN GOES AWAY. WITH THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE DOESN'T GO VERY FAR, BUT IT'S A SAFETY CONCERN IN THE EVENT THE SURGE BECOMES UNCONTROLLABLE. I TOOK MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA IN FOR A SQUEAL IN THE WINDOW, UNDER WARRANTY. SUN TOYOTA TOLD ME I WOULD NEED A REGULATOR. I LEFT MY TRUCK THERE FOR FOUR HOURS, WHEN I RETURNED TO PICK IT UP, THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY CLUTCH WAS COMPLETELY WARNED OUT. I DIDN'T BRING IT IN FOR ANY KIND OF CLUTCH REPAIR, MIND THE FACT I WAS ONLY AT 26K MILES. I ASKED HOW DID THEY DETERMINED THAT. THE GUY IN THE SERVICE DEPT. SAID HE, "COULD FEEL IT WITH HIS FOOT". THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $800.00 UP FRONT FOR THEM TO EVEN LOOK AT IT, AND THAT WOULD JUST TELL THEM IF THERE IS A PROBLEM AND IF IT WAS A WARRANTY ITEM OR IF I WORE IT OUT. I TOLD THEM THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD HAVE WORN OUT THE CLUTCH IN 26K MILES, THEY TOLD ME THAT TEENAGERS CAN WEAR A CLUTCH OUT AT 18K MILES, HOWEVER I AM NOWHERE NEAR A TEENAGER ANYMORE. SO ANYWAY, I DID NOT SHELL OUT $800.00. INSTEAD I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY SERVICE MAN, THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TOYOTA, AND TOLD HIM EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED AT TOYOTA. HE COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I HAD BEEN TOLD. THEN PROCEEDED TO CHECK OUT THE TRUCK, PUT IT ON A LIFT, TOOK IT DOWN AND ADJUSTED THE CLUTCH, AND TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR CLUTCH, AND HE DIDN'T CHARGE ME ANYTHING! AFTER THAT EPISODE I CONTACTED THE BBB, I TRIED TO CONTACT TOYOTA CORP., USELESS! THE BBB COULD NOT RESOLVE THIS EITHER. THE BOTTOM LINE IS, TOYOTA THE COMPANY STINKS, THEY WILL TELL YOU LIES, TO GET MONEY OUT OF YOU. THEN WHEN YOU PROVE THEM WRONG. THEY STILL WON'T ADMIT THEY MADE A MISTAKE. I LOVE MY TRUCK AND STILL OWN IT. HOWEVER NOW I TELL EVERYONE WHAT A BAD COMPANY TOYOTA IS AND TO RESEARCH IT BEFORE THEY BUY, SO FAR I'VE TALKED THREE PEOPLE OUT OF BUYING ONE. WHILE PASSING SEVERAL RADAR SIGNS, I NOTICED MY TRUCKS SPEEDOMETER WAS READING ABOUT 8% ABOVE THE ACTUAL SPEED I WAS TRAVELING. A CHECK AT A "SPEEDOMETER CHECK" WHERE THEY HAVE MILEAGE SIGNS EVERY MILE FOR SEVERAL MILES ALSO CONFIRMED THIS. A TRIP WITH MY GPS ALSO SHOWED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS INACCURATE. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED MY TRUCK ON THEIR SMOG DYNO AND SAID MY SPEEDOMETER WAS ONLY 1 MPH OFF AT 40 MPH. THEY INFERRED THAT SATELLITES, POLICE RADAR AND MY WRIST WATCH ARE LESS ACCURATE THAN THEIR SMOG TEST DYNO, NOT LIKELY. I'M GETTING RIPPED OFF FOR 8% OF MY WARRANTY! *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WAS SHIFTED FROM FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH OR LOW, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALWAYS SHIFT. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE AUDIBLE ALARM STATING THE VEHICLE HAS NOT SHIFTED CAME ON. AN ADDITIONAL 5 ATTEMPTS WERE NEEDED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED. THE TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER DROVE THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THIS WAS NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS. ALSO, WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES WERE BELOW ZERO DEGREES THE KEYLESS ENTRY WOULD NOT UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP TESTED THE KEY FOB AND REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT THIS DID NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 3/22/2006 - *NM

AFTER HAVING TRANSMISSION REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE AT 6271 MILES, LESS THAN 2 WEEKS LATER AGAIN HEARD A CLINKING SOUND EMANATING FROM THE REAR TRANSMISSION WHEEL AREA. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER AND DURING TECHNICIAN TEST DRIVE WITH SPOUSE REAR END LOCKED UP. DEALER DISCOVERED ISSUE WAS BOLTS ON RIGHT REAR E-BRAKE CABLE INSIDE DRUM CAME OUT AND BRAKE SHOE WAS LOCKING UP REAR AND THEN MAKING IT HARD TO SHIFT INTO GEAR AND BOLT WAS MAKING THE GRINDING NOISE AT LOWER 1ST GEAR. DEALER REMOVED AND CLEANED AXLES, INSTALLED NEW BOLTS ON E-BRAKE CABLE, REMOVED AND REPAIRED REAR BRAKE SHOES AND MACHINED BOTH REAR DRUMS. *NM

THIS WAS TUESDAY MARCH 29, 2005. CALLED DEALER AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK. ALL PEOPLE AT DEALERSHIP HAVE BEEN VERY NICE, BUT SAY THEY HAVE FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. FOUND OUT LAST WEEK, THAT A LADY ON A TEST DRIVE HAD A CAR SURGE THROUGH THE SHOWROOM WINDOW AT SAME DEALERSHIP. I HAVE NO FAITH THAT THE VEHICLE WON'T DO THIS AGAIN.
