The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle with no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the rear subframe of the vehicle was fractured. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the rear subframe of the vehicle failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle failed the State Inspection because there was a hole approximately 3 inches wide on the driver's side of the vehicle near the catalytic converter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed that the hole was caused by extensive rust and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall issued twice; however, the recall had expired. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

I went in to get my truck worked on & was told it was not safe. The frame is rusted and cracked. I did not receive a recall notification. Now, I have a broken truck and cannot afford to buy another vehicle or pay to repair this one. This is a safety hazard for the other people on the road and a death trap for the owners with vehicles that Toyota will not stand behind.

Toyota Tacoma 2006 TRD, This vehicle was recalled for rust to the frame on 10/03/2018. The frame was replaced by Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg, Virginia. The work was done and completed con 02/07/2019. The vehicle supposedly was thoroughly inspected for any problems by the dealership. Then released to me after the work was done. Then in November of 2019 I moved from Virginia to Nebraska. Used this truck to move with and pulled a trailer over 2,000 miles with it. Little did I know my life was in danger due to negligence by the dealers service department. Recently I replaced the rear bumper on this truck. By doing this it fully exposed the trailer hitch system on the truck. This is when I clearly seen that a part of the trailer hitch was completely rusted through. When replacing the frame on this truck the dealership had to notice this severely damaged part. Yet they did not inform me of this situation. If they had, I would have had the part replaced, due to the chance of it breaking which could have caused an accident. This is nothing short of pure negligence on the part of this dealership. People could have been severely injured or killed due to this negligence. I have pictures of this part just the way they left it.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

ON DECEMBER 1, 2019 I WAS BACKING INTO A GAS STATION FILL UP SPOT. AS I LET OFF THE GAS TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES THE TRUCK REVVED UP AND STARTED ACCELERATING IN REVERSE. I APPLIED AS MUCH PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AS POSSIBLE ONLY TO CONTINUE ACCELERATING IN REVERSE. I COULD FILL THE TRUCK'S BRAKES ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE BUT THE TRUCK'S BACK TIRES ARE SQUEALING OVER POWERING THE BRAKES. I FINALLY COME TO A STOP ON ONE OF THE POLES THAT PROTECTS THE GAS PUMPS AFTER HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SENT A THIRD PARTY COMPANY TO PULL THE INFORMATION FROM THE EVENT DATA RECORDER. I WAS TOLD I WOULD GET A REPORT OVER WHAT THEY SAID HAPPENED WITHIN 30 DAYS AFTER THE THIRD PARTY HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. IT HAS NOW BEEN 37 DAYS AND TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION. I HAVE DONE ALL THE RECALLS THAT HAVE BEEN ISSUED ON THE 2006 TACOMA. ON ONE RECALL THEY INSTALLED AN OVERRIDE THAT WOULD HAVE DECREASED ACCELERATION IN THE EVENT THAT BOTH THE BRAKE AND GAS WERE BEING DEPRESSED AT THE SAME TIME. THIS DID NOT WORK IN MY ACCIDENT. I HAVE NOTICED ON THIS SITE THAT THERE ARE 144 OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF TRUCK OF THE SAME THING OCCURRING, YET THAT IS NOT ENOUGH TO SAY THAT THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE? I AM CONVINCED THAT THE TRUCK IS A DANGER AND TOYOTA IS NOT RESPONDING AND HAVE MISSED THE DEADLINE OF GETTING ME THE REPORT WITHIN 30 DAYS.

I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE INTENTION OF PARKING IN THE GARAGE. I WAS SLOWLY WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, TURNING INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE SIMULTANEOUSLY STARTED TO SQUEAL (AS I WAS ON THE BRAKE) AND ACCELERATE. I KEPT PUSHING HARDER AND HARDER ON THE BRAKE, THE SQUEALING CONTINUED. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND SHUT THE IGNITION OFF PRIOR TO CRASHING INTO ANYTHING.

ORIGINAL RECALL 09V388000 FOR SPEED CONTROL WAS REMEDIED BY MODIFICATION TO THE GAS PEDAL AND REPLACEMENT OR REPURCHASE OF THE FLOOR MATS. ON MY TRUCK, I ACCEPTED THEIR FIXES. SINCE THEN, THE REPLACEMENT FLOOR MAT HAS TORN AND IS ONCE AGAIN LOOSE AND A RISK TO BEING STUCK IN MY GAS PEDAL. OF NOTE IS THAT THE REPLACEMENT FLOOR MATS WERE MUCH LOWER QUALITY (CHEAP FIX) THAN THE ORIGINAL FLOOR MATS AND HAD I KNOWN THIS I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR THE REPURCHASE OPTION. EITHER WAY, THE EXISTING FLOOR MATS ARE SUB-STANDARD AND POSE AS RISK WHICH SHOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT WITH A MAT THE QUALITY OF THE ORIGINAL MATS OR BETTER. The contact stated upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic for front brake repair, she was informed that the front side of the subframe and the passenger's side and the driver's side subframe were severely corroded. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that she would need to pay for the repair because an unknown Extended Warranty related to the failure had expired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

BROKEN REAR LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY: THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN KNOWN IN TOYOTAS SINCE THE FIRST GENERATION TACOMAS BUT WORSE IN THE SECOND GENERATION. THE LEAF SPRINGS AREN'T PROPERLY EQUIPPED TO HANDLE THE TOWING CAPACITY OUTLINED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND WILL CRACK, FLATTEN, OR BREAK UNDER TOO MUCH WEIGHT. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT NEEDED REPLACED ON 11/7/2016. TOYOTA ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE IN 2007 BY RELEASING A TSB STATING THAT THEY'D REPLACE THE SPRINGS ON ANY SECOND-GEN TACOMA STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I BOUGHT MINE IN 2006. I HAVE LIVED IN THE SAME LOCATION FOR OVER 25 YEARS.*DT CONSUMER DISCOVERED DEALERSHIP DID PERFORM THE REPAIRS AND WOULD LIKE COMPLAINT TO BE CANCELLED.*JB

THIS SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE LOOKED AT THAT WAY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEIR FRAMES BROKEN IN HALF. THE WORST DAMAGE ON MINE IS DRIVER'S SIDE UP FRONT THERE IS ALSO RUST NEAR THE REAR MY TRUCK RECENTLY HAD REAR SPRINGS REPLACED ON A RECALL. THEY SHOULD HAVE NOTICED IT THEY SAID NOTHING ABOUT IT, THE FRONT TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE BEEN EASY TO NOTICE THE DAMAGE AT FRONT DIDN'T MENTION IT. My airbag warning light went off and the horn ceased functioning as well. The dealer charged me $170 to diagnose the problem as a broken spiral cable in the steering wheel. I asked about a recall for this part as there are plenty of other Toyota models with a recall for this same part. I was told that this particular VIN was not part of any campaign (yet). Are they actually different parts on the RAV4 and 4Runners or the same part?? There are plenty of documented failures and testimonials about the Tacoma issue but no recall??? Where does pressure need to come from to initiate one? Another $575 to fix it, what is a glaring safety issue.

Driver side air bag is not operational. Horn doesn't work. There was a spiral cable assembly recall for the 2006 Toyota Tacoma as well as air bag recall. My Vin number was not included but my vehicle is affected. Will this be corrected by Toyota. My vehicle only has 125,000 miles.

I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma ext cab 4x4 v6 to have diagnostic run on it . "EXACT PERFORMANCE " Johnson drive . KCK The differential was shot . However , that was not the final . They did not do full diagnostic . They informed me that my frame was rotted and rusted through and would not last till spring and was a safety hazard. That was Dec. 2024 . The truck has been parked since . Ive had no transportation and can not run right out and buy another truck . I am also not willing to give up the truck either . I have put a lot of hard earned money into this truck believing it to last forever . The motor and train are sound . I do not want to junk the truck . Please , tell me what I can do . Yes . My vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

This truck is for sale in Oregon with HOLES/RUST on the frame and the frame mount. It is being sold with a clean title which clearly with the frame damage it is considered a branded title. The car lot that is selling the truck will no disclose the frame issue when asked about the structure damage on the truck. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

Upon inspection, his father was informed that the recall could not be performed due to the extensive corrosion on the frame of the vehicle. He was also informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and was given an estimate of $16,000 for the repair. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

My frame rusted and broke into where spring hanger bolts to the frame. They are saying n was recalled but time has ran out but I did not receive a recall notice as we moved to another area of the state ( Ashtabula) where we bought a shop for our oilfield business then we moved to ( Cambridge ) and are now renting our first home from my daughter who bought it in New Concord. Sad thing is we had it to repair shop and had new steering, power steering pump, new front axles and no one said hey you should look at this frame it is rotten and I have a picture I can send you if you'd like.So it is totally broke into and the spring hanger is not attached and pushed the bed up and the driver nearly wrecked and we had to haul it back on a trailer.

I was driving and all of the sudden I felt a vibration when I let off the gas...I checked under and saw that the drive shaft/yoke was separated a little, so I decided not to drive it anymore and to disassemble it and found out that the lock nut is missing and more likely it came off. I've noticed that no sign that the lock been staked to lock in position (picture attached)...this is a near miss and could possibly there are more like this on the road that could lead to a very serious accident if this comes off while running in high speed. I bought this car in 2005 brand new, and I know for sure that this never been work on...I am a mechanic myself so I does the Maintenace to all my cars...I just want to make the company aware to prevent any possible serious accident...I owe 5 Toyota cars and I know one of the best and safest vehicle.

REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL LEAK. THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL IN THE 2016 TOYOTA TACOMA BUT MY 2006 HAS THE SAME PROBLEM STARTING YEARS AGO. I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS LEAKING UNTIL I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP.

WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD AROUND 112,000 MILES ON IT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT EXPERIENCED IRREGULARITIES WITH REGARD TO SHIFTING. THE CODE WAS RAN AND THE SHIFT SOLENOID WAS THE ISSUE. A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS RECOMMENDED. WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF THIS WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SECOND HAND. APPROXIMATELY A YEAR LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE SHIFTING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. UNFORTUNATELY BY THE TIME WE TOOK IT TO A CERTIFIED TOYOTA DEALER THE LIGHT WAS OFF AND IT WAS RUNNING SMOOTHLY. THE INCONSISTENCY OF THE ISSUE IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW THE ACTUAL ISSUE AND IF THE VEHICLE CAN BE TRUSTED. THE CERTIFIED DEALER RECOMMENDS A COSTLY TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO VERIFY THE ISSUE.

The universal joint on the intermediate steering shaft corrodes and seizes causing a potential problem steering. It is a serious safety issue in my opinion. It is an on-going issue.

STEERING BECAME VERY STIFF WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN YESTERDAY. UPON MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT A FAMILIAR INTERSECTION, IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO MAKE THE TURN DUE TO VERY STIFF STEERING. THE FRONT END OF MY TRUCK CAME VERY CLOSE TO A VEHICLE COMING INTO THE INTERSECTION FROM THE STREET I WAS TURNING INTO, AND THEN THE USUAL RETURN OF MY WHEELS TO STRAIGHT AHEAD DID NOT OCCUR AS EXPECTED, AND I HAD TO QUICKLY FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL BACK BEFORE I RAN UP OVER THE CURB ON MY RIGHT. LUCKILY THE CAR COMING INTO THE INTERSECTION HAD BEEN FAR ENOUGH BACK FROM THE INTERSECTION THAT WE DID NOT COLLIDE, AND IF I HAD NOT FORCED THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AT THE END OF THE TURN I MAY HAVE HIT PEDESTRIANS ON THE SIDEWALK. UPON INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM WITH A MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INCIDENT (YESTERDAY AFTERNOON) AND AT ONLINE FORUMS, THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE SEEMED TO BE THE U-JOINT ON THE LOWER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OF THE STEERING COLUMN DOWN JUST BEFORE THE STEERING GEAR, JUST INSIDE THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. PER SOME ONLINE FORUM ADVICE, I USED PENETRATING OIL ON THAT U-JOINT TO LOOSEN IT, WITH GOOD RESULTS (STIFFNESS IS NOW GONE). BUT THIS SEEMS MOST LIKELY TO BE A TEMPORARY FIX. I DOUBT THAT LOOSENING THE U-JOINT TODAY WILL KEEP IT FROM A REPEAT PERFORMANCE AT SOME UNKNOWN AND UNPREDICTABLE TIME. CLEARLY THIS COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTS, AND PER ONLINE FORUMS, IT HAS APPARENTLY BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE FOR A WHILE. THERE ARE NO GREASE FITTINGS ON THE U-JOINT, SO THERE IS NO WAY TO PUT A MORE PERMANENT LUBRICANT (GREASE) INTO THE BEARINGS OF THE U-JOINT. ALSO, THE U-JOINT IN QUESTION IS NOT PROTECTED BY A RUBBER BOOT, AND IS COMPLETELY EXPOSED TO ALL THE WATER, DIRT, AND SALT THAT SPLASHES UP WHILE DRIVING. OTHERS HAVE NOTED THAT SPRAYING WITH PENETRATING OIL OR THE LIKE IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX, AND THE STIFF STEERING PROBLEM RETURNS AFTER A TIME, MAKING AN ACCIDENT MUCH MORE LIKELY.

THIS OCCURRED AFTER LEAVING THE VEHICLE FOR 6 MONTHS OR SO AT THE DEALER FOR A RECALL IN 2012 OR SO. WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK IT WAS OK BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY DID TO IT. THIS PROBLEM JUST REOCCURRED LAST WEEK AFTER I DID NOT USE THE VEHICLE FOR A WHILE.

THE STEERING WHEEL GET REALLY TIGHT AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO TURN. IT FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING TO LOCK UP ON ME. CALL TOYOTA AND THE DEALER ABOUT IT. THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE. TRUCK HAS 86,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT.

My 2006 Toyota Tacoma Chassis has Rust issues. At my last Oil Change my Mechanic recommended I go to My Toyota Dealer with The Problem. A few years back I was under The Truck and noticed it as well. I notified Crestmont Toyota in Pompton Plains NJ about it. They assured me it was inspected and during The Recall and was found to be safe and without issues. After going back and forth with them [the recall is over] I called Toyota Corporate about my issue. They basically said the same thing. I even went as far as to put my truck an a Lift and paint the chassis with POR-15 Rust Preventative Coating. I see some areas on the chassis around where the Shock Absorbers are welded to the Chassis where I couldn't get to. Is there anyone that could help me in my dilemma? I only have around 100,000 miles on this 17 year old truck. On June 26, 2021, I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma to Bennett Toyota for regular maintenance. As part of the inspection, I was notified that the "Frame very rusted, perforation may begin on cab mounts in the next year" and the Service Advisor told me that my car would be unsafe to drive in a year or two. I told the Service Advisor that in 2015, I received a recall notice from Toyota regarding frame rust and took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma to Bennett Toyota to address the issue. On April 22, 2015, Bennett Toyota provided "Corrosion-Resistant Compound (CRC) Application; Remove Rust - Clean Frame - No Rust Perforation Found". Again on March 29, 2018, I requested that Bennett Toyota inspect the frame for corrosion perforation and was notified that "No Significant Perforation Found". The Service Advisor stated that the extended warranty had expired and there was nothing Bennett Toyota could do to address the rusted frame. I then called Toyota and opened case# 210628002014 to request the rusted frame be addressed/replaced/repaired and was told that the extended warranty had expired and there was nothing that Toyota would do to address the issue. I have a Toyota Tacoma with a known issue that is quickly becoming unsafe to drive and have no way to repair/replace the rusted frame.

HELLO I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR LOUD CLACKING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE BRAKES EVERY TIME I USE THE BRAKES. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT THIS SOUND IS NORMAL BUT I KNOW BETTER AS I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE THAT SOUNDED LIKE THIS BEFORE AND I ALSO AM SOME WHAT OF A MECHANIC. THE CLACKING SOUND IS COMING FROM THE BRAKE CALIPER HITTING THE MOUNTING BOLTS AND AS ANY ONE WITH A BRAIN KNOWS THAT METAL HITTING METAL OVER AND OVER WILL EITHER BREAK THE BOLTS OR EVENTUALLY WEAR THROUGH THE BOLTS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AS A TOYOTA CERTIFIED VEHICLE WITH 48,000 MILES ON IT. I was driving my Toyota Tacoma and all of the sudden, without any warning I felt an abrupt bump which caused the bed of the truck to jump a foot in the air. Looking in my mirrors to find out what happened I saw a tire rolling beside my truck past me into the other lane. Thankfully there were no cars approaching. I pulled over and examined my vehicle. I saw my spare was not there. I found the wheel now laying in the middle of the street and realized this was my spare tire that came off. In the street near where the bump occurred I found the spare retention part and a metal part with frayed wires. I put the spare tire and parts in the truck and called the Toyota Corperate and told them what happened. I was informed that my vehicle was not subject to a recall for the spare tire retention system. They informed me that I would need to take it to the dealer for inspection. My tacoma is at the dealer with the parts. They are covering the costs of the repair now after initally telling me I would have to pay to repair it. The spare tire coming off during motion put me, my family and other motorists in danger. I was on my way to fill up my truck for a camping trip where we pull a trailer. I can only imagine what would happen if the wheel came off while I was towing my trailer. Would it cause my trailer to flip over, causing an accident, injury or even death of my family or others?

THE WARNING LIGHT FOR LOW TIRE PRESSURE KEEPS COMING ON AND THE DEALER CANNOT FIX IT AND SIMPLY PUTS MORE AIR INTO THE TIRES. I HAVE CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE ACCORDING TO THE LABEL ON THE INSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND CANNOT DETERMINE IF ANY TIRES HAVE LOW PRESSURE. THIS WARNING LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AGAIN AND AGAIN. THIS MUST BE A FAULTY VALVE OR A FAULTY TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM.

WHILE ROTATING TIRES, I HAVE HAD THREE DIFFERENT WHEEL LUGS BREAK, ONE APPROXIMATELY 10000 MILES PREVIOUSLY AND TWO ON THE SAME WHEEL ON THE DATE INDICATED ABOVE. THE LUG NUTS WHERE NOT CROSS THREADED. THESE LUGS WHERE BROKEN WHILE TORQUING THE NUTS PER THE MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATION. THE TORQUE WRENCH WAS NOT PROFESSIONALLY CALIBRATED, BUT WAS COMPARED TO A RECENTLY CALIBRATED TORQUE WRENCH, BOTH WRENCHES COINCIDED. GRANTED THE LUGS HAVE HAD A SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL FOR LUBRICATION. HOWEVER, I HAD A GENTLEMAN WHOM WAS A METALLURGIST HIS WORKING CAREER AND DID FAILURE ANALYSIS FOR A OIL COMPANY. BASED ON VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE FAILURE, HE INDICATED THE PART FAILED FROM FATIGUE AND WAS NOT OVER TORQUED. THEREFORE, IF A FATIGUE IS PROVEN BY FURTHER ANALYSIS, MY CONCERN IS THAT THESE PARTS COULD CAUSE FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH DETRIMENTAL RESULTS. *TR

AS THE WEATHER INCREASES ABOVE 85 TO 90 DEGREES THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL AND THE HAZARD FLASHERS CEASE WORKING. ONCE THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE HAS CEASED AND THE TEMPERATURE AND THE VEHICLE COOL DOWN NORMAL FUNCTION RETURNS. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BECAUSE WHEN USING THE A/C IN THE CAB THE COOL AIR HAS NO EFFECT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL OCCUR. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR FEW YEARS. THIS MONTH MY A/C STARTED WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AGAIN. I HAVE REPLACED THE RESISTOR BEFORE THINKING IT WAS BAD..THAT'S WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE HOT SPOTS. THIS TIME I INVESTIGATED MORE. NOW ALL 4 CONDUCTORS ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF A HOTSPOTS AND THE PLUG ALSO IS SHOWING SIGNS OF OVERHEATING ON THE TWO MIDDLE CONNECTIONS. TOYOTA'S SERVICE MANAGE DIDN'T KNOW OF ANY SERVICE BULLETINS OR RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE. ALSO TOYOTA DOESN'T SELL A REPLACEMENT PLUG. THIS CAN, AND PROBABLY WILL START A FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.

USED MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER TO TOW A VEHICLE A SHORT DISTANCE BEFORE A SHORT CIRCUIT IN TRAILER WIRING CAUSED WIRING FIRE IN PRERUNNER---30 AMP FUSE IN TOYOTA FAILED TO PROTECT CIRCUIT, LEADING TO TOTAL TRUCK WIRING MELTDOWN AND RUIN. FUSE WAS OF THE AMPACITY REQUIRED BY TOYOTA--30 AMPS. TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW, NEVER INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, AND NO CHANGES HAD BEEN MADE TO WIRING OR FUSE SYSTEMS. AUTO ELECTRIC REPAIR SHOP REQUIRED $2800 IN PARTS AND $2000 FOR LABOR TO REPAIR MELTED WIRING LOOMS AND FUSE BOX; THEY SUGGESTED THAT FAILURE COULD HAVE RESULTED BECAUSE TOYOTA USES A 30 AMP FUSE ON A #12 WIRE CIRCUIT THAT WILL MELT AND BURN BEFORE THE FUSE BLOWS. (12 GAUGE WIRE TYPICALLY MUST BE PROTECTED BY A 20-AMP FUSE.) TOYOTA (CORPORATE) REFUSES TO DEAL WITH MY ISSUE OR TALK TO ME ABOUT WHETHER THE FAILED FUSE AND MELTDOWN COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THEIR INSTALLING A FUSE WITH TOO HIGH AN AMPACITY RATING BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE THE REPAIR DONE BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. AT APPROX. 37000 MILES MY DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR ON MY 2006 TACOMA STARTED DROOPING DOWN BLOCKING MY FIELD OF VISION. THE SUN VISOR WOULD NOT STAY IN ANY POSITION AND STARTED MAKING A CRACKING NOISE WHEN MOVED. THIS WAS REPORTED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR WHICH THEY STATED THAT IT IS A KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE. THE SUN VISOR CONTAINS TWO PLASTIC PIECES THAT HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO FAIL CAUSING THE SUN VISOR TO NOT HOLD IN ANY POSITION (UP OR DOWN). I WAS TOLD BY THIS TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO GLUE A VELCRO STRIP ONTO THE SUN VISOR AND HEADBOARD TO STOP THE VISOR FROM FALLING INTO MY FIELD OF VISION OR PAY $120 FOR A NEW SUN VISOR WITH A SUPPOSED FIX. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE AND SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED PROMPTLY BY TOYOTA.

WHILE DRIVING ON I-95 SOUTH OF JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA IN MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA I WAS FORCED TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE KEPT ACCELERATING UNTIL I DOING ALMOST A 100 MPH WEAVING THROUGH TRAFFIC UNTIL I COULD GET INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. ONCE STOPPED THE FIRST THING I CHECKED WAS THE FLOOR MAT AS I HAD A PROBLEM WITH PREVIOUS VEHICLE CAUSING THE ACCELERATOR TO STICK BUT THE FLOOR MAT WAS NO WHERE NEAR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE BUT IT JUST REVVED WIDE OPEN SO I TURNED IT BACK OFF AND CALLED ARLINGTON TOYOTA. I WAS ADVISED TO CALL A WRECKER AS THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE BEFORE. THEY HAD IT FOR THREE DAYS BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS AS IT RUN PERFECTLY WHEN OFF LOADED OFF THE WRECKER. I WAS ADVISED TO INSTALL MAT RETAINING PINS. THEN I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE FLOOR MATS AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR RECALL I WAS ADVISED TO REMOVED THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOORMAT. I WAS TOLD NOTHING MORE THAT TOYOTA AS TO WHAT WAS BEING ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. IS THAT A VIABLE RECALL? I KNOW FOR A FACT IT WAS NOT THE FLOOR MAT THAT CAUSED THE ISSUE BUT WAS ADVISED BY TOYOTA THERE WAS NO DOCUMENTED INSTANCES OF UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION WITH TACOMA'S. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER DOUBLE CAB 4X2 V6. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE EXPERIENCED FOUR INSTANCES WHERE AFTER PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HARD, THUS INTO OVERDRIVE, THE TRUCK EITHER KEPT SPEEDING UP OR DID NOT REV BACK DOWN. 1ST INSTANCE - ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE VEHICLE, I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY AND NEEDED TO SPEED UP TO ENTER INTO TRAFFIC AT SPEED. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL HARD ENOUGH TO BOOST SPEED. AS I ENTERED TRAFFIC, THE TRUCK JUST KEPT SPEEDING UP. AFTER APPLYING A LIGHT BRAKE, I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND IT THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY ENGAGED AND GEARED BACK DOWN. 2ND INSTANCE - WHILE LEAVING THE FREEWAY @ 65 MPH I SLOWED TO 45 MPH AND SWITCHED LANES TO THE RIGHT. THEN I APPLIED GAS TO SPEED UP TO MERGE AND THE TRUCK DID NOT SLOW DOWN. AGAIN THE LINK BETWEEN THE THROTTLE AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT SEEM TO REACTION AS IN A NORMAL SITUATION. I HAD TO MERGE BACK BECAUSE THE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN FAST ENOUGH. AFTER 4-5 SECONDS THE TRUCK SLOWED DOWN. 3RD INSTANCE - AGAIN ENTERING THE FREEWAY. I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL TO SPEED UP ENOUGH TO ENTER THE TRAFFIC. THIS TIME THE THROTTLE OPENED FULL BORE. I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL, LIGHTLY APPLIED THE BRAKE, AND PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER 5 SECONDS THE TRUCK FINALLY REVVED BACK DOWN. I REACHED A SPEED OF OVER 90 MPH IN THIS INSTANCE. 4TH INSTANCE - DRIVING UPHILL THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY INCREASED THROTTLE WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL, THE TRUCK SURGED FORWARD, AGAIN FULL BORE. I USED THE SAME TECHNIQUE AND IT EVENTUALLY SLOWED. THIS PROBLEM IS DEFINITELY NOT A FLOOR MAT PROBLEM. I NOW DRIVE MY TRUCK VERY GINGERLY SO AS NOT TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO TWO DEALERSHIPS, BOTH HAVE NOT BEEN HELPFUL OR HAVE RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM. SAYING THAT "YOUR TRUCK IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST WE SEE HERE, CALL THIS TOYOTA NUMBER." 1. Frame was replaced under recall due to excessive corrosion, and now it's corroding again and should be replaced. also the trailer hitch is excessively corroded and was not replaced during the recall. I pull trailers all the time with this truck and don't want there to be failure with the hitch due to excessive corrosion. 2. The body paint and clear coat on this vehicle is weak and needs constant attention, and the body material turns to rust right away. This subject needs attention.

MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WAS RECALLED DUE TO TOYOTA'S FRAME RUST AND CORROSION ISSUE. AFTER NOTIFICATION, JULY 2015, I BROUGHT MY CAR TO TOYOTA OF WALLINGFORD (DEALER) AS INSTRUCTED IN THE RECALL NOTICE FOR A FRAME INSPECTION. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE TRUCK FRAME AND SAID IT WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A NEW FRAME AS THE FRAME PASSED THEIR INSPECTION. I DISPUTED THIS BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO PUSH MY FINGER THROUGH PARTS OF THE FRAME. THEY INSISTED THAT THE INTEGRITY WAS SOUND. THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS TO SPRAY THE CAR WITH A CORROSION RESISTANT COVERING (CRC). AFTER SOME DEBATE I TOOK THEIR RECOMMENDATION AND AUTHORIZED THE WORK. THE CRC WAS A THICK BLACK GEL THAT COVERED THE FRAME, SO RUST, ROT AND DETERIORATION WAS COMPLETELY HIDDEN. IN RETROSPECT, I BELIEVE THEY INTENTIONALLY COVERED THE RUST SO ISSUES COULD NOT BE DETECTED AND RE-INSPECTION DID NOT OCCUR. RECENTLY I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES ON THE TRUCK. WHEN THE TIRE DEALER PUT THE TRUCK ON THE LIFT HE NOTICED THE FRAME WAS BOWING AND LARGE PIECES OF THE FRAME WERE MISSING. THE CRC WAS STILL COVERING THE RUST BUT LARGE HOLES IN THE FRAME WERE DETECTED. THE TIRE SPECIALIST WOULD NOT WORK ON THE TRUCK DUE TO THE UNSTABLE FRAME, SO I QUICKLY CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER TO RE-INSPECT THE FRAME. THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE FRAME WAS ROTTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED, BUT INFORMED ME THAT THE DEADLINE UNDER THE RECALL HAD JUST PASSED ON 1/31/19. THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY REPAIRS ALTHOUGH I FOLLOWED EVERY STEP AND ENDURED EVERY INCONVENIENCE FOR A ROT ISSUE THAT THEY WERE ALWAYS RESPONSIBLE FOR. UNSATISFIED WITH THE DEALER'S RESPONSE, I CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND THEY REAFFIRMED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE FRAME. TOYOTA DID NOT RESOLVE ALL ISSUES RELATED TO THEIR FAULTY FRAMES. THEY BRILLIANTLY CAME UP WITH A SOLUTION THAT HID THE RUST AND ROT AND SAVED THE COMPANY MILLIONS BY MASKING THE ISSUE AND NOT REPLACING THE BAD FRAMES.

NO DASHBOARD LIGHT COME ON. THE BREAKS WILL BE GONE FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME AND THEN WILL START WORKING AGAIN. STOPPING THE TRUCK AND TURNING IT ON AND OFF WILL NOT BRING THE BREAKS BACK. ONLY WAY TO STOP THE TRUCK WHEN THE BREAKS GO OUT IS WITH THE PARKING BREAK. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM SOMETIMES THEY WORK SOMETIMES THEY DON'T. WHEN THE BREAKS WOULD GO OUT IT WAS ALWAYS AT SPEEDS OVER 40MPH AND ON HIGHWAYS COUNTRY ROADS AND ALWAYS ON A RETURN TRIP AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN TURNED OFF ONCE. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THEY SAID IT WAS BAD FRONT BREAKS AND FRONT LEFT BEARING, REPLACED BOTH TOOK IT HOME TWO WEEKS LATER BREAKS WENT OUT AGAIN ON HIGHWAY WHILE TRYING TO STOP AT A LIGHT, BROUGHT IT BACK TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, BREAKS WERE STILL OUT. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG EXCEPT I HEATED UP MY FRONT BREAKS WHILE TRYING TO STOP, AND THAT THEY WERE NOW COOL AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN. I ASKED THEM TO CHECK ALL THE OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE BREAKING SYSTEM THEY SAID THEY WERE FINE. AT NO TIME DID ANY LIGHT COME ON ON THE DASHBOARD. I PICKED IT UP FROM DEALERSHIP THERE WAS NO BREAKS ON THE TRUCK. SO I TOWED HOME. HAD BREAK BOOSTER AND CHECK VALVE REPLACED RE-FLUSHED BREAKS. PROBLEM ACCURED AGAIN, TOOK IT TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO BELIEVES IT'S THE ABS MODULAR. HAVE BEEN TRYING TO REPLACE ABS MODULAR SINCE MAY OF 2020, TOYOTA SAYS THERE IS A BACKORDER OF ABS SYSTEMS CAN NOT GIVE AN ETA OF WHEN THEY WILL BE BACK IN STOCK.THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE UNKNOWN BUT THE MECHANIC IS PRETTY SURE IT IS THE ABS MODULAR.

VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY STATED THE CONDITION WAS CAUSED BY LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID DUE TO EXTENSIVE CORROSION/RUST OF THE BRAKE LINE AND THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF LIFE WHEN BRAKES FAIL DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE MATERIAL THAT IS USED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE BRAKE LINE. WE PURCHASED A 2006 TACOMA ON DEC. 23, 2008 FROM COMPETITION TOYOTA IN NEW YORK. WE DROVE THE TRUCK BACK TO WISCONSIN THAT DAY. TWO DAYS AFTER PURCHASE DATE (APPROX. 1500 MILES LATER), THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. HAVING A BUSY SCHEDULE, AND NOT USING THE TRUCK MUCH, WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO MARQUART TOYOTA IN EAU CLAIRE, WI ON MARCH 18, 2009. THEY ASSURED ME THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS LONG AS IT WERE AN AIRBAG PROBLEM. TURNS OUT THEY CHARGED US WITH $94.95 FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE DIAGNOSED. A SPIRAL COIL THAT ALLOWS THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN WHILE STILL KEEPING THE AIRBAG CONNECTED BROKE. THEY QUOTED ME $483.19 FOR THE REPAIR OF THIS COIL. DUE TO THIS BROKEN COIL, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS IN THE TRUCK WORK. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. AFTER TWO WEEKS OF DELIBERATING, TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. The truck's frame has severely rusted. The frame has deteriorated. It is unsafe to drive as the frame is breaking in half. According to Toyota, this was a huge problem with the 2006 Tacoma. They will not fix the frame or offer any solution. My son can not safely drive this vehicle.

I will try to give you as concise statement of my complaint as possible, however, I have copies I sent to the manufacturer and others that I'm willing to furnish you if requested. On 3/18/21, I wrote to Toyota's Executive VP , Chief Quality Officer, [XXX], stating my compliance with their notice of 7/9/15, requiring frame inspection, significant perforation not found, therefore they applied CRC corrosion resistant compound to my frame. As NO critical problem was noted, I felt I was good until during a later inspection was performed and rated more attention. On 3/29/21 during my next oil change I noted on a notation on an unusual service bill, typewritten not the usual custom printed type, a notation that I have 2 holes, approx. 3.5" on my frame, use caution if driving". At this time I found there was an open class action suit against Toyota. Toyota advised me that since I had not responded to more than one notification I was not included in the suit. I replied that "I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY SUCH NOTATION". As they did not send receipt requested or certified, I neither could prove sent or not received. I asked for consideration based on that to which, was denied. I have written also to CT Attorney General, CT US Senator, [XXX], with only the Attorney General's office stating Toyota's response was negative. I realize this is a late request, I was not aware of his avenue. I have Certified copies of each request for help, which I am more than happy to copy and send to you if you will try to help me right Toyota's wrong. I'm an 89 year old male just trying to right a wrong I believe done to me. I DID NOT RECEIVE NOTIFICATION FROM TOYOTA! , If I had, I would not be so persistent. I send my letters CERTIFIED, they should have had to also, could have solved this problem earlier. Please help me, thank you. THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER LAST SUMMER TO GET REPAIRED. I ASKED HIM IF HE COULD TIGHTEN THE SEAT BELT RETRACTION TENSION AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE COULD NOT WITHOUT REPLACING THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT A SEAT BELT TENSIONER BOLT HAD COME LOOSE CAUSING THE RETRACTOR TO MALFUNCTION. TIGHTENING THE BOLT WOULD NOT FIX IT. THE COST OF THE PART TO FIX IT WAS APPROX. $250. SINCE MY TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY WERE NOT GOING TO FIX IT FOR FREE. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT IN MY TRUCK GETS USED APPROX. 1/10 THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE DRIVER SIDE DOES. WE HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENTS WITH OUR 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK; I. MY WIFE, WAS DRIVING ROUTE 40 WHEN AFTER RED LIGHTS THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED SPEEDING UP W/O ANY WARNING OR ALARM. The frame of my 2006 Toyota Tacoma (VIN: [XXX] ) is severely corroded and compromised. I recently acquired the vehicle and discovered that it was part of a past Toyota recall/program for frame corrosion inspection and replacement. However, it appears the previous owner did not take the vehicle in for the service. The frame now shows advanced rust and structural weakness, which puts my safety and the safety of others at risk. I am concerned that the recall program was not adequately communicated or tracked, and I am requesting that the NHTSA review this issue for potential reopening or expansion of coverage for affected vehicles like mine. RETURNING HOME WITH MY GRANDSON FROM VISITING A STATE UNIVERSITY I HEAD A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT A RUBBER BUSHING HAD FAILED BECAUSE PREVIOUS MODELS OF TOYOTAS (TERCELS) MADE THE SAME SOUND WHEN THE TORSION BAR BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPON RETURNING HOME I FOUND THE SWAY BAR HAD COME OUT OF THE LEFT BRACKET WHICH SECURES IT TO THE FRAME AND WAS STRIKING THE FRONT LEFT SPRING OF THE SPRING AND SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY. THE SWAY BAR BRACKET HAD BENT UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE SWAY BAR BECAUSE THE FRAME HAD RUSTED OUT WHERE THE REAR SWAY BAY BRACKET MOUNTING BOLT CONNECTS TO THE FRAME. THERE IS NO FRAME MATERIAL ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME TO REATTACH THE SWAY BAR BRACKET.THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME HAS RUSTED OUT. LOOKING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME IT HAS EXCESSIVE RUST. The frame is rusted so bad. The dealer wouldn’t replace due to the vehicle being registered in Florida as it’s not one of the states affected. But my Toyota came from a Pennsylvania dealer first then shipped to Florida after years of being in Pennsylvania and not having an issue up there. Now I’m stuck with a truck I can’t sell or fix. It’s not right. Where is the quality control on this.

WHY IS IT NOT LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE? WHEN I CHECKED ON THE STATUS OF THIS RECALL, IT SHOWS THAT MY MODEL, ACCORDING TO THE VIN DOES QUALIFY FOR THIS. THE JACK THAT COMES WITH A TOYOTA TACOMA (2005 OR LATER) WITH THE OFF-ROAD PACKAGE DOES NOT WORK. THE JACK IS TOO SMALL TO REACH THE LOWEST POINT ON THE VEHICLE TO JACK THE TRUCK TO CHANGE A TIRE. I RESPONDED THAT THE STRUT AND LEAF SPRING COMBINATION ON THE VEHICLE RAISED THE VEHICLE HIGHER AND A STANDARD JACK WOULD NOT WORK. TOYOTA REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEY HAD PROVIDED A PRODUCT THAT WOULD NOT WORK WITH THEIR VEHICLE. POTENTIAL DANGER EXISTS IF THE OPERATOR IS UNAWARE OF THE JACK ISSUE AND SUFFERS A FLAT IN A REMOTE LOCATION AND HAS NO WAY OF CONTACTING ANYONE FOR ASSISTANCE. I WAS CREEPING--2 OR 3 MPH--UP TO AN INTERSECTION IN MY 06 TACOMA. WHEN I TRIED TO STOP, I COULD FEEL THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES SHIFTING AROUND, BUT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP. IT "DROVE ITSELF" INTO THE PATH OF A MACK DUMP TRUCK, TOTALING MY TRUCK & SENDING ME TO THE CHIROPRACTOR TWICE SO FAR. IF MY TRUCK HAD MANAGED TO GET ANOTHER 2 OR 3 FEET INTO THE INTERSECTION, THE DUMP TRUCK WOULD HAVE HIT MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR INSTEAD OF THE FRONT TIRE. ODDS ARE, I WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED THAT CRASH. MY INSURANCE IS FINDING ME AT FAULT, TOYOTA OFFERED TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE TRUCK AFTER IT WAS FIXED. ON THE 26TH OF MARCH 2010 ABOUT 3:00 PM, I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA AND GOT ONTO INTERSTATE 80 GOING WEST AND BEGAN TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. AS I ACCELERATED TO GET IN FRONT OF A WHITE SEMI-TRACTOR TRAILER, I REALIZED I WAS ACCELERATING FASTER THAN I WAS PUSHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. MY TRUCK ACCELERATED AS IF IT WANTED TO GO FASTER THAN I DID, AND SO I LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. BUT, MY TOYOTA TACOMA STILL INCREASED IN SPEED, AND THE GAS PEDAL SEEMED SOFT AS IF THE TRUCK WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL. REALIZING THAT MY SPEED WAS 80 AND RISING RAPIDLY, I PUSHED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR BARELY SLOWED DOWN AND SPED RIGHT BACK UP CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE AS SOON AS I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE. SO, I PRESSED DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH ALL MY FORCE, BUT THE TRUCK DID NOT SLOW DOWN SUFFICIENTLY TO SAFELY PULL OVER. SO, THEN, I PUT ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND USED THE OTHER TO PUSH DOWN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE TRUCK DECELERATED ENOUGH TO ALLOW ME TO PULL OVER INTO THE FAR RIGHT LANE. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL DESPITE APPLICATION OF BOTH BRAKES, AND SO I THREW THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. THIS SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED AS OF TODAY.

MY SON TOOK HIS NEW 3 MONTH OLD 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER ON 12-12-05 FOR "HIGH IDLING" AND "WHEN ACCELERATING CUSTOMER HAVING A HARD TIME STOPPING IT" ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE.THIS VEHICLE WENT OUT OF CONTROL TWO TIMES. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED ON A SURFACE STREET SPEEDING UP FROM 40 MPH TO 80 MPH AND THE SECOND TIME HE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT SPED UP FROM 70 MPH TO 110. BOTH TIMES MY SON SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL - INSTINCTIVE REACTION - AND THE TRUCK DID SLOW DOWN. HAD THE TRAFFIC BEEN BAD, HE AND OTHERS, WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED FOR SURE. BOTH TIMES, HE TOOK HIS FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR AND HE COULD SEE IT MOVING DOWN TOWARDS THE FLOOR ALL BY ITSELF. IT STILL HAS AN IDLING PROBLEM. I PURCHASED A TOYOTA TACOMA 2006 NEW AND FROM DAY ONE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE OVER REVVING ON START UP, WHICH IS VERY DAMAGING TO AN ENGINE IN COLD CLIMATES. IT ALSO BETWEEN SHIFTING FROM 3RD TO 4TH, AND 4TH TO 5TH GEARS THE RPM'S WILL NOT COME DOWN TO ENABLE ONE TO SHIFT PROPERLY AND NOT ONLY MAKES FOR A ROAD DANGEROUS CONDITION BUT IT ALSO CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE ENTIRE DRIVE TRAIN. ITS LAST INSPECTION WAS IN NOVEMBER OF 2018. ON SUNDAY, MAY 17TH, 2020, THE FRAME BROKE AT THE FRONT CROSS-MEMBER CAUSING THE LEFT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM TO SEPARATE AND STEERING THE VEHICLE/CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE BECAME NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. I INFORMED THE LOCAL DEALER (KOLAR) AND TOYOTA, THEY RESPONDED BY SAYING THAT DUE TO ITS ADVANCED YEARS, THEY WOULD NOT HELP AND ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING DOWN I35 TO THE CITIES AT 85 MPH AND THE TANK CAME OFF, AND IT STRUCK MY OR ANOTHER VEHICLE THIS NOTE WOULD BE WORDED VERY DIFFERENTLY. ACCELERATED BY ITSELF. UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2006 4X4 TOYOTA TACOMA ON A 55MPH ROAD WITH OR 3 YEAR OLD AND 1 YEAR OLD CHILDREN ON MARCH 2017 AT AROUND 12:00 NOON, WHEN SHE STARTED TO DECELERATE TO TURN ONTO SIDE ROAD SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES BUT THEY DIDN'T WORK, SHE PRESSED HARDER AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE; THEN THE TRUCK ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHILE SHE STILL ONLY APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES FINALLY WORKED AND SHE WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE THE TURN, YET MUCH TOO FAST. OVERT THE NEXT TWO MILES TO OUR HOUSE ON A 35MPH ROAD, SHE STOPPED THE TRUCK FINE (ONCE AT A STOP SIGN, AND ONCE AT OUR MAILBOX). HOWEVER, AS SHE PULLED INTO OUR GARAGE SHE STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND AGAIN THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, AND THE TRUCK AGAIN ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND HIT A TOOL CABINET WHICH HIT THE GARAGE WALL. THANKFULLY SHE AND THE KIDS WERE OK. THE TRUCK HAS A PUSH-BAR ON THE FRONT AND THAT WAS PUSHED INTO THE FRONT BUMPER AND GRILL, THE TACOMA'S FRONT BUMPER IS CONCAVED IN THE MIDDLE AND THE ENDS ARE BROKEN FROM WHERE THE JOIN THE FRONT FENDERS, THE LOWER GRILL AREA ALSO BROKE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THREE DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND ASK IF THERE WAS A RECALL. TWO CLAIMED TO NEVER HAVE HEARD OF THIS, AND ONE OF THOSE TOLD ME TO MAKE SURE A FLOOR MAT WASN'T IN THE WAY (WHICH IT WASN'T). ONE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT THIS WAS SIMILAR SYMPTOMS TO A NATIONAL RECALL THAT HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR OTHER TOYOTA MODELS, BUT NOT OUR TACOMA WAS NOT ONE OF THOSE. I TOOK TO THE INTERNET AND INSTANTLY FOUND THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS BY TACOMA OWNERS, AND EVEN VERBIAGE THAT NHSTA HAS HAD THOUSANDS, MAYBE TENS OF THOUSANDS, OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS GENERATION TACOMA. PUTTING THE COMPUNDS ON THE FRAME IS A QUICK BAND-AID AND DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS FRAME WILL BECOME UNSAFE, IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. THIS WILL NOT ONLY POTENTIALLY JEOPARDIZE THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY / OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE, BUT ALSO THE OTHERS THAT SHARE THE ROAD WITH MY TRUCK.

WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH OUR 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WHICH HAS 125331 MILES. ON MAY 11, 2015, WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA, FOR THE REPAIR OF THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT WHICH HAD FAILED. I WAS EXPERIENCING A VIBRATION EVEN WHEN DRIVING AT VERY LOW SPEEDS THAT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. I HAVE ENCLOSED THE PAPERWORK DESCRIBING THE REPAIR, WHICH I BELIEVE WAS TIED TO A RECALL, AND ANOTHER REPAIR. OCTOBER 19, 2012, THE RIGHT REAR LEAF SPRING CRACKED AND NEEDED REPAIR, MILEAGE WAS 92303. AT THE TIME WE DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE LEAF SPRINGS, AND THE REPAIR FOR THE RIGHT HAD COST US 1408.11. THE REPAIR SHOP ALSO NOTICED AT THE TIME THAT THE LEFT REAR LEAF SPRING WAS ALSO FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED, THAT WAS REPAIRED A FEW DAYS LATER 10/23/2012 THE COST 1407.61. AT THE TIME WE HAD DRIVEN AROUND NOT KNOWING WHAT THE VIBRATION WAS ONLY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. THE FAULTY LEAF SPRINGS WE WERE TOLD AT A LATER DATE BY THE TOYOTA DEALER MAY HAVE PLAYED A FACTOR IN THE ABOVE REPAIR. THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT HAD NOT BEEN CAUSED BY THE FAULTY LEAF SPRING. ON OCTOBER 27, 2006 THE HEAD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED, THE MILEAGE AT THIS TIME WAS 90102. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS 2866.18. WE ALSO HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES JUST GOING ON THE VEHICLE WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IN OCTOBER. HE LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO GEAR DOWN USING THE TRANSMISSION TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. WHEN IT WAS TOWED TO MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA, WHICH IS WHERE HE HAD HAD THE BRAKE FLUID REPLACED A FEW MONTHS PRIOR, PAID IN FULL FOR ALL REPAIRS AT THE TIME. SO I FEEL THIS ISSUE WAS PROBABLY THE FAULT OF MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA.

WHILED I WAS DRIVING I WENT OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE FAN ON MY TRUCK STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP TO BE CHECKED. THIS I WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THE FRAME ON MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA WAS CRACKED AND CAVING IN WHERE THE MOTOR MOUNTS ATTACH TO THE FRAME. THIS CAUSED THE MOTOR TO DROP DOWN AND THE FAN STARTED HITTING ON THE SHROUD. ALSO IT PIERCED A HOLE IN MY UPPER OIL PAN WHEN THE MOTOR DROPPED DOWN AND HIT THE RACK AND PINION. UPON RESEARCH THERE ARE MANY MANY CASES OF THIS HAPPENING TO THE 2005 -2006 TACOMA TRUCKS. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX.

MY TRUCK WAS FINE UNTIL 6 MONTHS & 3K MILES LATER, ON 11/7/14, WHEN I EXPERIENCED A FAILURE SUCH THAT THE FILTER CAME OFF MY TRUCK GOING 30MPH & OIL SPEWED ONTO THE ROAD.I PULLED OVER ABOUT 200 YARDS AFTER THE FILTER CAME OFF JUST AS THE OIL CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I FOUND THE OIL FILTER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.THE GASKET WAS ATTACHED IN FINE CONDITION, & NEITHER FACE NOR BODY LOOKED DEFORMED. FINALLY DID FLOOR MAT RECALL WORK DONE ON MY 2006 TACOMA. NEW FLOOR MAT IS THIN, FLIMSY, NOTHING LIKE ORIGINAL THICK ALL WEATHER FLOOR MAT. I ALSO WANT TO ADD, THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL DESIGN AW FLOOR MAT FOR TACOMA VEHICLES, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO INTERFERENCE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND THAT THE ONLY REASON I CHANGED THE MATS WAS DUE TO THE MAT RIBS STARTING TO BREAK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IN ADDITION, THE CAMPAIGN CALLED FOR THE FLOOR CARPET TO BE VACUUM CLEANED AND SHAMPOOED, AND NONE OF THIS WAS DONE. THE DEALER SIMPLY SWAPPED-OUT THE FLOOR MATS AND CHARGED-OUT $185 TO "RECALL WORK", I DON'T EVEN THINK THEY DID ANY PEDAL ADJUSTMENT. HERE'S THE REAL PROBLEM: THE NEW, THIN, FLIMSY FLOOR MAT USES THE OLD FLOOR MAT RETAINER HOOKS THAT WERE INTENDED FOR THE THICK ALL WEATHER FLOOR MATS. THESE FLOOR MAT HOOKS HURT MY FEET WHEN DRIVING BAREFOOT, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY CAN, THEY WILL, AND THEY HAVE CAUGHT AND HOOKED-UP THE HEEL OF MY SHOES ON OCCASION. I AM A VERY SAFE DRIVER, DO NOT TAILGATE VEHICLES, AND I TELL YOU NOW, THESE HOOKS HAVE CAUSED ME TO GET INTO EMBARRASSING SITUATIONS AND VERY NEAR ACCIDENTS DUE TO MY SHOE GETTING CAUGHT IN THE HOOKS AND NOT BEING ABLE TO BRAKE PROPERLY AND ON TIME. IF I MODIFY THE HOOKS OR CUT THEM, THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THAT THE NEW MAT WILL SLIDE-UP UNDER THE PEDALS, PREVENTING USE OF THE BRAKES AND NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WILL NOT DO THIS, I WILL NOT ASSUME THIS RESPONSIBILITY. AT THIS PRESENT SITUATION, AT THIS PRESENT DESIGN, THE LIABILITY RESTS WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE AUTHORIZATION FOR THIS RECALL DESIGN MODIFICATION. I RECENTLY HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE FAN HITTING THE SHROUD ON MY 2006 TACOMA. I TOOK MY TACOMA INTO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FRAME WAS CRACKED AROUND THE WELD WHERE THE DRIVERS' SIDE MOTOR MOUNT BRACKET WAS WELDED TO THE FRAME. THE BRACKET HAS STARTED SINKING INTO THE FRAME WHICH COULD ULTIMATELY CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS TO CONSUMERS LEADING TO VEHICLE ACCIDENTS ETC. I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH AND HAVE HEARD OF THIS SAME ISSUE HAPPENING WITH 2005 & 2006 TACOMAS FROM NUMEROUS OTHER TACOMA OWNERS. THE WELDS AROUND THE MOTOR MOUNT BRACKETS ARE WEAK. THESE SHOULD BE ONE OF THE STRONGEST WELDS ON THE TRUCK. TOYOTA ADVERTISES THEIR TRUCKS FOR OFF ROAD USE YET THEY BARELY HOLD UP TO NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING. 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB, V-6, 4WD. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW FROM PALMER'S TOYOTA IN MOBILE, AL. AT 72,000 MILES, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE IN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS BAD. THE COST TO REPAIR IS IN EXCESS OF $500! I CHOSE NOT TO REPAIR AT THE TIME - HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH THE LIGHT ON FOR A WEEK NOW. SERVICE REP SAID THAT UNTIL REPAIR IS MADE, MY AIRBAGS WERE "DISABLED". TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE WIRES HAD COME LOOSE AND RE-PLUGGED THE WIRES ACCORDINGLY. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

IN ADDITION WHEN SITTING IDLE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY LUNGE FORWARD. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. BRAKING TOOK MUCH LONGER TO STOP. CERAMIC PADS WERE INSTALLED. BRAKE PEDAL NOW GOES TO THE FLOOR WHEN STOPPED. MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED BY TOYOTA ON 2/25/2010. THE BRAKE PEDAL STILL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN STOPPED. TOYOTA CHECKED IT ON 4/05/2010 AND SAID ALL THEIR NEWER TRUCKS LOOSE VACUUM AND THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY SAID THIS ISN'T NORMAL (4/07/2010). TOYOTA INSPECTED BRAKES AGAIN ON 4/12/2010 AND SAID IT'S NORMAL FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR AT A STOP. I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA W/ 40K MILES. TOYOTA SHOWED ME A 2007 TACOMA THAT DID THE SAME THING. MY PEDAL NEVER WENT TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE MASTER CYLINDER WENT. IN LATE MAY 2009 WHILE ON HIGHWAY 50 IN SACRAMENTO JUST EAST OF THE 50/80 INTERCHANGE IN GOOD WEATHER (DRY AND CLEAR) MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA'S GAS PEDAL BURIED ITSELF TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WENT TO MAXIMUM ACCELERATION. BRAKING ONLY HAD A SLIGHT INITIAL EFFECT AND THEN OVERHEATED AND FADED. AFTER A LUCKY 4 MILES I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. THIS BEGAN AROUND 60MPH AND MAXED AROUND 107. DURING THE 4 MILES I ACTIVATED AND DEACTIVATED MY CRUISE SEVERAL TIMES, TAPPED THE BRAKES, REACHED DOWN AND PULLED ON THE PEDAL AND THE MAT, THE RECENT TOYOTA EXPLANATIONS OF STICKING PEDAL AND MAT ISSUES DID NOT APPLY AND I FIND THEM LUDICROUS.. IT IS AN EERIE FEELING TO HAVE YOUR ACCELERATOR LEAVE YOUR FOOT ON ITS OWN. TRUCK HAD 36,500 MILES, NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT, WAS IN GOOD REPAIR WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND WAS STOCK EXCEPT FOR A SHELL. WHILE OWNED THE TRUCK HAD EXPERIENCED THE AT STOP SURGE DESCRIBED BY MANY OTHERS WHERE IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE TAPPED THE BACK OF THE TRUCK WHILE WAITING IN AN INTERSECTION. I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH 43,800 MILES ON IT. I HAVE TAKEN THE TACOMA IN TO VALLEY HIGH TOYOTA IN VICTORVILLE NUMEROUS TIMES FOR A TERRIBLE BRAKING PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE NOW RECOGNIZING ON THE PRIUS. THE TRUCK DOES NOT STOP WHEN DRIVING OVER ANY UNEVEN SURFACE. WHEN WE WENT TO VALLEY HIGH TOYOTA WE WERE TOLD THAT IT IS ABS BRAKES TRYING NOT TO LOCK UP. IN FACT, THE BRAKES DON'T WORK AT ALL IN THIS SITUATION WHICH COULD LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. FURTHERMORE, THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE MOTOR MOUNTS AS WELL. IN 2007 WE TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR ITS FIRST MOTOR MOUNT PROBLEM, IT SEEMS THAT BOTH MOTOR MOUNTS WERE STRETCHED BEYOND REPAIR AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS OVER, BUT IN NOV. 2009 THE DRIVER SIDE MOTOR MOUNT SNAPPED COMPLETELY THROUGH. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN ROUGHLY AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE NEW DESIGNS PUT INTO PLACE ON THE 2007 TACOMA MODELS. THE MECHANIC WORKING ON THE TRUCK SAID HE COULD TELL THE TRUCK HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN HARD AND STATED THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. WE HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT SINCE THE FIRST MOTOR MOUNT PROBLEM THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SHIFTING EXTREMELY ROUGH. WE'VE ASKED VALLEY HIGH TOYOTA ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE SAID THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. OUR WARRANTY IS ALMOST UP AND I'M WORRIED WE COULD HAVE A TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITHIN THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS. MY DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS TRUCK, AND I NO LONGER FEEL IT'S SAFE FOR HER TO DRIVE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP TRUCK. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED HE SMELLED FUEL INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AFTER STARTING IT. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT COMPONENT WAS REPAIRED. WE OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. IN THREE DIFFERENT INCIDENTS WHEN WE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE ESPECIALLY WHEN WE GO OVER BUMPS THE CAUSED ON FREEWAYS BY BIG RIGS THE TACOMA WILL MAKES A NOISE, AND IT DOES NOT BRAKE. IT IS NOT STOPPING, AND WE HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKE IN ORDER TO EVENTUALLY BRAKE. THIS ESPECIALLY OCCURRED WHEN WE WERE EXITING THE FREEWAY. WE FEAR OUR SAFETY, AND CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TODAY. I SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT 10:05 A.M. LOCAL TIME AT 800-276-9699. SHE ADVISED THAT SINCE WE DID NOT PURCHASE EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME. I EXPLAINED THAT WE FEARED FOR OUR SAFETY AND SINCE WE ARE EXPECTING A NEWBORN IN FEW MONTHS DO NOT EVEN WANT TO USE THE CAR. IN THESE ECONOMIC TIMES AND DUE TO THE RECENT ISSUES WITH TOYOTA WE FEEL THEY SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT EXPECTING TO CHARGE US. PROBLEM: THROTTLE HUNG IN A WIDE-OPEN POSITION WHILE DRIVING. NO CARPET PROBLEM WAS INVOLVED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO ME IN A TWO WEEK SPAN!!! I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 TACOMA. ON 10/29/09 WHILE TOWING A TRAILER I EXPERIENCED THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. I HAD TWO PASSENGERS WITH ME THAT CAN ATTEST TO THE TRUTH OF MY SITUATION. I DEPRESSED THE THROTTLE AND THE MOTOR SUDDENLY WENT TO A WIDE-OPEN POSITION. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE TRUCK WITH BRAKES ALONE BUT THEY COULD NOT STOP THE ACCELERATION OF THE TRUCK. MY ONLY THOUGHT WAS TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION. I DID SO AND BROUGHT THE TRUCK AND TRAILER TO A SAFE STOP ALTHOUGH IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT WITHOUT THE POWER BRAKES BEING ACTIVE ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT I WAS ALSO TOWING A TRAILER. I CHECKED THE THROTTLE AND GAS PEDAL CONNECTIONS AND FOUND NO OBVIOUS PROBLEMS. I THEN ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE TRUCK TO SEE IF POSSIBLY THE COMPUTER CLEARED ITSELF. WHEN I TURNED ON THE IGNITION, THE MOTOR STARTED AND INSTANTLY WENT INTO A FULL-OPEN THROTTLE MODE. I SHUT IT OFF BEFORE IT REACHED A VERY HIGH LEVEL. WE THEN CHECKED ALL THE SAME THINGS WE ALREADY CHECKED AND I DECIDED TO TRY STARTING THE TRUCK AGAIN. THIS TIME, IT STARTED AND RAN LIKE NOTHING EVER WAS WRONG. WE DROVE THE TRUCK HOME WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT. THEY INSPECTED BOTH THE THROTTLE BODY, ENGINE CODES, AND TEST DROVE IT AND TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I WAS SENT ON MY WAY WITH NO CHARGE TO ME. THEY GAVE ME NO PAPERWORK AS I NORMALLY GET BUT I DID CONFIRM THAT THIS COMPLAINT WAS PUT INTO THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO ME ONCE MORE ON 11/02/09 WHICH ALSO HAPPENED TO BE MY BIRTHDAY. ON ALL 2005 AND 2006 TOYOTA TACOMAS THE FOURWHEEL DRIVE SELECTOR SWITCH DOES NOT LIGHT UP AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. I NEEDED TO PUT THE TRUCK INTO FOURWHEEL DRIVE AND HAD TO FEEL AROUND THE DASHBOARD FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE I COULD GET IT INTO FOURWHEEL DRIVE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND SOMEONE GETTING HURT BECAUSE THEY CAN'T GET INTO FOURWHEEL DRIVE IN A HURRY IF THEY NEED TO. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER BUT THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I ALSO CONTACTED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT I DON'T THINK THEY WILL DO ANYTHING BASED ON THEIR RESPONSE. ALL OTHER TOYOTA FOURWHEEL DRIVE MODELS HAVE FOURWHEEL DRIVE SWITCHES THAT DO LIGHT UP. ALL TACOMA MODELS FROM ATLEAST 2001 TO 2004 HAVE SWITCHES THAT LIGHT UP. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY CHANGED THE SWITCH ON THE 2007 OR 2008 TACOMAS. THIS IS A VERY POPULAR TRUCK AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THEM ON THE ROAD. I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO IS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS. INFANT SEATS IN 2006 TOYOTA ACCESS CAB. WE WENT TO HAVE THE CAR SEAT INSTALLED BY CERTIFIED INSTALLERS AT THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT. THREE FIREMEN COULD NOT GET THE SEAT INSTALLED TIGHTLY AND SAFELY ENOUGH USING THE LATCH OR THE SEATBELT. THEY REFERRED US TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, STEVEN TOYOTA IN HARRISONBURG, VIRGINIA. FOUR MEN ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL THE SEAT AT THE DEALERSHIP AN THEY WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE MADE SOME PHONE CALLS ON OUR BEHALF. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, I HEARD BACK FROM HIM AND WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T HAVE A SOLUTION EXCEPT TO ?PUT A CUSHION UNDER IT? TO HELP TIGHTEN IT. THIS WAS TOYOTA?S RESPONSE? A COMPLETELY NON-SPECIFIC, BLANKET STATEMENT THAT IF TAKEN SERIOUSLY AND THE CUSHION FAILED DURING A CRASH, COULD HAVE DEVASTATING RESULTS. NEXT, I SPOKE TO SOMEONE IN SALES WHO MADE A PHONE CALL TO "DAN" WHO IS APPARENTLY WORKS FOR TOYOTA?S SAFETY DEPARTMENT. SIX DAYS LATER, WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA HAD ONLY HEARD OF ONE OTHER CASE THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE AND IT WAS RESOLVED. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS ?NO RESOLUTION? AND TO TRY OTHER SEATS. THE DEALERSHIP DID MAKE A TRIP TO THE LOCAL TARGET STORE TO LOOK AT SEATS AND MAKE SUGGESTIONS BUT NONE OF THEM WORKED. WE MADE SEVERAL MORE ATTEMPTS WITH THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND WE COULD NOT FIND A SEAT THAT WOULD TIGHTEN SAFELY, EITHER WITH LATCH OR THE SEATBELT. STEVEN TOYOTA ALSO SUGGESTED THAT WE INSTALL THE SEAT IN THE FRONT BUT IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED AND EFFECTIVE JULY 1, A LAW IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. THE FOLLOWING SEATS WERE ATTEMPTED: BABY TREND FLEX LOC INFANT SEAT, COSCO SCENERA CONVERTIBLE SEAT, COSCO ALPHA OMEGA ELITE CONVERTIBLE/BOOSTER SEAT. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT WE NOTICED IS THAT IF A SEAT COULD BE INSTALLED, THE SEAT MUST LEAN AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE FOR INFANTS TO RIDE. HOWEVER, THE ANGLE LEAVES NO ROOM FOR ANYONE TO SIT COMFORTABLY IN THE FRONT. THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD TO BE MOVED FORWARD TOO MUCH. I AM 5 FOOT 8 INCHES TALL AND MY KNEES WERE AGAINST THE DASHBOARD. *JB

I WANTED TO WRITE YOU TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I HAVE A '06 TACOMA DOUBLE CAB AND I AM EXPERIENCING THE "LURCH" PROBLEM. I HAVE AROUND 2000 MILES ON MY TRUCK. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME BEING PICKY, BUT IT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE IT DOESN'T WANT TO STOP AT TIMES. I HAVE NOTICED THAT WITH THE AC OR HEAT ON, IF I ARE SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, AND DON'T HAVE MY FOOT FIRMLY, I MEAN FIRMLY PLANTED ON THE BRAKE, IT WANTS TO JUMP FORWARD. IT WILL DO THIS A COUPLE OF TIMES IF THE LIGHT IS RED FOR A WHILE. ALSO, IF I AM DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AT SLOW SPEEDS, IT TENDS TO "LURCH" FORWARDS AT TIMES, THUS CAUSING ME TO "PLAY" WITH THE BRAKE AND GAS. NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED OR NOT, BUT ALSO, IF I AM RIDING AT ABOUT 34-45 MPH AND THEN RELEASE THE GAS, THE ENGINE FEELS LIKE IT STALLS, BUT IT DOESN'T. TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA , CAB. CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONED. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH THE VEHICLE SURGED AT 5100 RPMS, AND DOWN SHIFTED BEFORE ADDING FUEL. THE FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A BARRIER. A PRODUCT ENGINEER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, AND STATED THAT IT PERFORMED AS DESIGNED AND ACCORDING TO THE CONTACT THE DESIGN WAS INCORRECT. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED SINCE AUGUST 2006. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR SHOULD LOCK AFTER ENGAGING THE GEARS. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY, AND THEY'RE UNABLE TO REPROGRAM IT TO MAKE IT AUTO LOCK. THE OWNER MAILED A DETAILED FAILURE REPORT TO THE PRESIDENT OF TOYOTA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8000, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15100.*AK

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN ACCELERATING IN 1ST GEAR AT 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED ON 9 OCCASIONS. AT OTHER TIMES, THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING OCCURRED THAT BECAME CONSTANT AS THE PROBLEM WORSENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED WITH ANOTHER SERVICE DEALER. THE FUEL WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ACTIVATED AT THE PROPER VOLUME OF FUEL. THESE PROBLEMS HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER THE CARPETING WAS REPLACED DUE TO WATER LEAKING THROUGH THE FIREWALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL AS I APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION WITH A RED LIGHT AND COULD NOT STOP, CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO REAR END A STOPPED VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE ALSO PICKED UP ACCELERATION WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE A SECOND TIME. I HAD TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF IN ORDER TO STOP IT FROM CLIMBING UP THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. POLICE OFFICER AT THE SCENE VERIFIED THIS OBSERVATION AFTERWARD INDICATING A MECHANICAL PROBLEM AND NOTED SAME ON THE POLICE REPORT. MY BRAND NEW VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THIS ACCIDENT, TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND REMAINS THERE AWAITING AN INSPECTION BY THE MANUFACTURER. *JB

FRONT SUSPENSION INSTABILITY, I HAVE REPLACED THE TIRES TWO TIMES, AND HAVE REPLACED THE OEM SHOCKS FOR THE BILSTEIN "OEM TRD" BUT THE VEHICLE BEHAVES LIKE THE FRONT SWAY BAR OR THE RACK & PININION ARE LOOSE. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER COUNTLESS TIMES BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO NOTICE THE NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION OR ANYTHING WRONG. IT IS MY PERCEPTION THAT A DESIGN FLAW OR A DEFECTIVE PART OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION OR RACK & PINION HAVE TO BE CAUSING ALL OF THE INSTABILITY. I REALLY CONSIDER THIS VEHICLE VERY UNSAFE AND HOPE TO FIND THE PROBLEM WITHIM THE NEXT COUPLE MONTHS OR I WILL REPLACE IT FOR A TUNDRA. *JB

SECOND OCCURRENCE: MAY 26, 2006 MERGING ONTO MAIN HIGHWAY INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON. ACCELERATED AND GAS PEDAL STUCK. TRUCK CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE, COULD NOT DISENGAGE PEDAL. BRAKE PEDAL WAS ALSO LOCKED AND COULD NOT DEPRESS IT. AFTER NUMEROUS TRIES, BRAKE PEDAL FINALLY ENGAGED AND GAS PEDAL DISENGAGED. CALLED TOYOTA DEALER AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY ARE REPLACING THE NON-FACTORY INSTALLED CRUISE CONTROL. ONE WEEK PRIOR TO INCIDENT, THEY REPLACED COMPUTER SYSTEM, SOMETHING IN THE GAS PEDAL ITSELF AND THE CRUISE CONTROL COMPUTER. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT STATES WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING THE IDLE WAS HIGH. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY ONE TO ONE AND A HALF MILES OF DRIVING FOR THE IDLE TO RETURN TO NORMAL. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK. WHEN SHIFTING FROM FOURTH GEAR TO FIFTH WITHOUT FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. SHE STATED THAT FOURTH GEAR COULD NOT BE USED. THE VEHICLE MUST BE SHIFTED FROM THIRD GEAR TO FIFTH GEAR. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE, AND THEY STATED THE COMPUTER WAS LEARNING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND THEY AGREED WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THEREFORE, NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE . *AK UPDATED 01/25/06
