It was determined by the Toyota dealer where this vehicle was purchased that there are rust holes in the frame. This vehicle's mileage is less than 100,000 miles. I understand there was a recall at one time however the Toyota dealership advised that this truck was not one of the vehicles in the recall at that time. This truck has always been garaged, has low miles and well maintained. You would think it would be able to be driven another 150k miles. This is a safety issue and I don’t feel I should be penalized for taking good care of this vehicle. It is a known fact within the industry that Toyota used bad steel for their frames during this year if manufacture. Please advise what you can do to remedy this situation. Thank you

Frame is completely rusted. the rear gas tank strap where it attaches to the frame corroded through and the strap dropped and was dragging on the ground. the gas tank also dropped and made it difficult to remove the gas cap. upon further inspection the frame is completely rusted through in spots. in 2014 a rust protective coating was applied by a dealer. it did nothing to stop the rust it just covered it. the steel is delaminating underneath the coating. It was just a band-aid to get them out of warranty period. these frames should have been a full recall. the strap could of easily hit the ground and bounced up and punctured a brake line or the gas tank. with it sparking on the ground a fire could of happened. The tacoma is in immaculate condition except for the frame. this is my 4th toyota and the only one that has had a problem.

I purchased NEW a Toyota 2007 Tacoma, After year of ownership I found heavy surface rust around the chassis and hardware components. I went to dealership and they stated that it was surface rust and were not able to rustproof . After 10 years I was assigned to SMA in FT Bliss TX were I was for 12 months on Active duty orders . Once I return and picked up truck from storage I found chassis completely rusted with several areas that were in critical need of repair. I contacted Toyota and was informed I missed the cut off date for recall repair . I will be repairing on my own but its a injustice that there is a such monetary preference than safety of the consumer who purchase vehicle out right for the reliability .

Took my 2007Tacoma for its State inspection, it failed due to a severely rusted frame. Shelor Motor Mile and Toyota have refused to replace the frame on a truck they admitted having that problem

I WAS STOPPED AT A DRIVE THROUGH, FINISHED MY TRANSACTION VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. I PLACED MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED AT FULL THROTTLE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHIN 2 CAR LENGTHS AND NO COLLISION WAS INCURRED.

OVER THE LAST ++18 MONTHS, WHEN AC IS ON, THE TRUCK IDLE WILL IDLE AT ABOUT 1500-1800RPM. AFTER HAVING MECHANIC DO A COUPLE THROTTLE BODY CLEANING IT DID COME DOWN BELOW 1000-1200RPM. FOR THE LAST 5 MONTHS, WHEN SHIFTING (EITHER UP OR DOWN) BETWEEN 4TH & 5TH GEAR, THE ENGINE SURGE TO 3200-3600 RPM AS SOON AS CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED + ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED. IN 2011 WHEN THE DEALER DID RECALL # 09V388000, THE ENGINE SURGING ISSUE WAS NOT THAT AS SEVERE AS IT IS TODAY. IN LAST 3 MONTHS, BESIDE ENGINE REVVING UP , I STARTED GETTING ENGINE ERROR CODES. 07/12/2017 TOOK MY TACOMA TRUCK TO DEALER FOR AVAILABLE RECALLS: 12V092: AIR BAG SPIRAL CABLE 13V337: SEAT BELTS 14V604: REAR LEAF SPRINGS; THESE BROKE IN JANUARY 2013 & I REPLACED BOTH SIDES WITH SKYJACKERS TCR515S (4LEAFS) AND I HAVE NO INTENTION TO REPLACE THEM. I THINK THAT IN EARLY 2011, THE DEALER DID RECALL 09V388000 BUT THIS DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY REFERENCE TO IT SO THEY WOULD NOT ADDRESS THAT ISSUE; BUT HE WOULD WANT TO OPEN ENGINE TO CHECK THAT TIMING CHAIN IS NOT DEFECTIVE/ OFF WHICH HE CLAIMED IS THE CAUSE OF THE SURGING BETWEEN 4TH/5TH GEAR. THIS DIAGNOSTIC WOULD BE AT MY COST. I REFUSE BECAUSE I DISAGREE WITH THIS LOGIC, I DO NOT HAVE LOST OF POWER BUT ONLY ENGINE REVVING UP LIKE CRAZY AND HIGH IDDLE WHEN CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED

THIS TRUCK HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE IT IS IN GEAR. IF THE ENGINE IS LOADED AT 50% OF FULL THROTTLE OR MORE (ACCELERATING, GOING UP HILLS, INTERSTATE SPEEDS) IN 4TH OR 5TH GEAR, AND YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE ECM (COMPUTER) CONSISTENTLY HOLDS THE THROTTLE OPEN FOR 10 SECONDS. IN ANY SITUATION WHERE YOU NEED TO STOP QUICKLY (YELLOW LIGHTS, CAR TURNS IN FRONT OF YOU, PEDESTRIAN) AND YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE FIGHTS THE BRAKES AND GREATLY INCREASES (>DOUBLES) STOPPING DISTANCE. IN ONE INSTANCE THE REAR WHEELS REPEATEDLY BROKE-FREE, AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE GOING STRAIGHT. ON SNOW OR ICE, I EXPECT MAINTAINING CONTROL TO BE IMPOSSIBLE: I'LL SPIN AT THE FIRST APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES. TOYOTA TECHS HAVE EXAMINED THE VEHICLE TWICE AND CONFIRM THAT IT IS THE ECM HOLDING THE THROTTLE OPEN, SUPPOSEDLY "...HELPING THE RPMS TO STAY UP FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME TO HELP WHEN SHIFTING" AND TO MITIGATE EMISSIONS. IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO HOLD THE THROTTLE OPEN WHEN IN GEAR, BUT I WAS TOLD THE ECM DOESN'T KNOW WHEN THE CLUTCH IS ENGAGED OR WHAT GEAR IT'S IN. ON MY VEHICLE THE NORMAL "SHIFT CYCLE" HAPPENS CORRECTLY BETWEEN ALL THE GEARS AND LASTS ~1 SECOND AS LONG AS YOU DON'T "LOAD" THE ENGINE GREATER THAN ~50%, AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. BUT IF YOU DO, THE ECM HOLDS THROTTLE FOR 10 SECONDS WHILE THE TRUCK IS IN GEAR, WHICH IS 880FT AT 60MPH! I HAVE SPOKEN TO TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES: BRENTON, (800) 331-4331, CASE #1610030909. BRENTON, A SUPERVISOR, CLAIMS THAT THIS IS INTENDED BY DESIGN AND IS SAFE AND REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE ENGAGED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGED. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RESET THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE FEATURE FAILED TO OPERATE NORMALLY. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CRUISE CONTROL OPERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

I have a well cared for, garaged 2007 Tacoma. It had a recall for a known frame corrosion issue. I had it inspected by Toyota and they chose not to replace the frame, choosing instead to apply a CRC spray in 2016. I have learned that my vehicle was sprayed by a formula that was later known to Toyota to harbor water and accelerate rusting. My vehicle has just failed state inspection and was identified to have a cracked frame in two places. Both left and right sides of the frame, behind the cab, and directly across from one another. The fact that Toyota now chooses not to honor any warranties, or provide consumer help, (I just spoke with their "Brand Engagement Center"), when I am the recipient of 2 known and compounding failures seems a dereliction of responsibility. I have a vehicle that should have a lot of service life left but for inadequate steel being used in production, that was then given an inadequate remedy which was later discontinued by Toyota after being found to accelerate corrosion. This seems like an obvious case of manufacturer responsibility but I'm being told I'll receive no assistance from the Toyota corporation. I wonder whether the inspection done in the first place was adequately and responsibly performed.

The frame has been rusting real bad and seen other Tacomas same year and style have the recall. Especially rusting where the running boards were attached too

Despite dealer treatment of the frame in 2014 and an inspection in 2017 the frame rusted through and snapped where the bed meets the cab.

These vehicles have frame rot. It was addressed in cold weather states with a recall but the recall was not available in California. My vehicle was a california only truck. The corrosion if undressed will result in the frame breaking in half behind the rear left passenger seat. Toyota should have included all states in this recall and there are an abundance of toyotas manufactured from 2005 to 2010 on the road with this issue that are ticking time bombs. My vehicle only has 145K miles on it.

My Tacoma has a frame rust issue. I have been told that Toyota did a "voluntary recall" and replaced rusty frames under warranty but that program has ended. This is terrible because it wasn't in an official NHTSA recall, so a Carfax says nothing of 5his issue. I contacted Toyota and they are unwilling to do anything. I have been told that my frame can break in half while driving When reading about this issue, it seems like Toyota did not replace all frames. Instead, there was some way based on the state you lived in as to if you could get a frame replaced. My truck was titled in California. Can someone please help me to get Toyota to repurchase the vehicle from me, allow me to trade it in on a new truck, or replace the frame in the same way they had done so in the past? Thank you.

I'VE NOTICED MY STEERING BECAME VERY HARD AND STIFF ALL OF A SUDDEN. I'VE CHECKED THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND FLUID, IT ALL CHECKED OUT FINE. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND NOTICED PEOPLE HAVING ISSUES WITH STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NO 2. (LOWER ONE BY THE WHEELS). I NOTICED THAT PART WAS NOT PROTECTED BY ANYTHING AND IS AND WAS EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS LIKE SALT, WATER, DIRT ETC. OVERTIME, THE U-JOINT RUSTS UP AND STARTS TO STICK CAUSING VERY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FOR THE DRIVER WHERE IT BECOMES VERY HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNING. THIS TRUCK HAS 12 YEARS AND 62,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS MAKING A U-TURN LAST WEEK, AND WHEN I FINISHED THE TURN I HEARD THE NOISE OF SOMETHING BREAKING. THEN A CLANKING NOISE OF METAL ON METAL STARTED TO SOUND FROM UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL AND RUNNING OVER BUMPS. I ALSO NOTICED EXCESSIVE PLAY ON THE TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 50MPH. I AM A LICENSED AUTO TECH AND BETWEEN THE NOISE AND THE PLAY DETERMINED THAT THE TRUCK WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I PROCEEDED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THE MID STEERING SHAFT WAS WORN OUT. THE PART CONNECTS THE LOWER SECTION OF THE STEERING COLUMN THRU THE FIREWALL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO REACH THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY. THE FAILED PART IS COMPOSED OF TWO SMALL SHAFTS JOINED TOGETHER BY A RUBBER DISK THAT ACTS AS A DAMPER. THE SHAFTS HAVE A SMALL METAL BASE AND IN THE SECTION OF THE STEERING COLUMN IT HAS A SMALL U-JOINT. THE SMALL BASES CONNECT IN TWO PLACES AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE RUBBER DISK BUT THE LOWER SMALL SHAFT GOES THRU THE CENTER OF THE RUBBER DISK AND THRU THE CENTER OF BASE OF THE SMALL U JOINT. AT THAT POINT THERE IS A PLASTIC BUSHING THAT FILLS THE GAP BETWEEN THE TWO METALS. THAT BUSHING BROKE AND IS THE CAUSE OF THE PLAY AND NOISE ALONG A DETERIORATED RUBBER DISK (SEE PHOTOS). THIS PART HAS DETERIORATED OVER TIME AND THE RUBBER AND PLASTIC HAVE DEGRADED. I REPLACED THE PART BUT IT HAS THE SAME DESIGN AND WILL FAIL AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. MANY PEOPLE FIX THE PROBLEM BY FILLING THE GAP WITH ZIP TIES AS I FOUND OUT SEARCHING THE WEB. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT TWO PIECES OF THE PART ARE HOLD TOGETHER BY A RUBBER DISK THAT DETERIORATES OVER TIME AND IF IT BREAKS, THE DRIVER CAN LOOSE DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. ALSO DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF REPAIR, MANY PEOPLE MAKE MODS TO MAKE THE PART WORK CREATING MORE HAZARDS.

VEHICLE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION UPON REQUEST. TRUCK FRAME LOCATED BEHIND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL HAS RUSTED AND DETERIORATED. THERE ARE VISIBLE PORTIONS OF THE FRAME COMPLETELY GONE. ADDITIONALLY, THE MAIN FRAME CLOSEST TO PASSENGER DOOR. METAL IS LITERALLY FALLING OFF IN MY HANDS WHEN TRYING TO DETERMINE EXTENT OF DAMAGE. THERE IS VERY LITTLE METAL CONNECTING THIS PORTION OF THE FRAME. IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHIFT INTERLOCK CONTROL UNIT FAILED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER CEASED IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 168,287.

THE U JOINTS ON MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA DETERIORATED TO THE POINT IN WHICH I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE THEM, MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS ISSUE WITH THE U-JOINTS HAS NOW LED TO AN INCREASE DETERIORATION IN MY DRIVE SHAFT AS WELL. RECENTLY, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATING THERE WAS A RECENT RECALL ON THE ABOVE DESCRIBED U-JOINTS. UPON TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME SEVERAL DIFFERENT STORIES. IN THE BEGINNING, MY DRIVE SHAFT WAS SUPPOSEDLY JUST FINE AND IN NEED OF NO REPAIRS; THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD STILL REPLACE THE U-JOINTS IN QUESTION. LATER ON THEY CHANGED THEIR STORY TO THE DRIVE SHAFT NEEDING TO BE REPLACED COMPLETELY DUE TO WEAR ON THE ITEM FROM THE FAULTY U JOINTS. AFTER EXPLAINING BACKGROUND INFORMATION THEY TOLD ME I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE DRIVE SHAFT TO BE REPLACED FOR FREE; BLAMING THE DAMAGE ON A PREVIOUS MECHANIC WHO HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR HIMSELF FOR OVER 35 YEARS. NOW, AS I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT, MY VEHICLE SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP, WITH ME UNABLE TO UTILIZE IT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY NOW SAY THEY WILL NOT PUT THE DRIVE SHAFT BACK ON AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO GET IT TOWED. THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RECALL STATUS, THEY WILL NOT PUT MY DRIVE SHAFT BACK INTO MY VEHICLE, AND THEY ARE COSTING ME AND MY FAMILY A LOT OF MONEY DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY VEHICLE IS MY LIVELYHOOD.

ON A ROUTINE COMMUTE HOME, I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH IN THE #3 LANE ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I NOTICED I LOST ACCELERATION, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD REV. IT REGAINED ACCELERATION THEN WENT AWAY AGAIN WITH A HARSH SOUND. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MOVE OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. IT WOULD NOT MOVE IN ANY GEAR AND UPON INSPECTION OF THE UNDERSIDE, SMOKE/STEAM WAS COMING FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL AND IT WAS VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH. THE TOWING COMPANY SPENT AN HOUR TRYING TO PULL IT ONTO THE FLATBED DUE TO BOTH REAR WHEELS BEING LOCKED DESPITE ALL BRAKES BEING OFF AND THE TRANSMISSION BEING IN NEUTRAL. ONCE IT WAS DROPPED OFF AT MY RESIDENCE, I REMOVED THE THIRD MEMBER ASSEMBLY. I DISCOVERED THERE WAS NO FLUID AND THE PINION GEAR LOOKED GROUND DOWN AND THERE WERE METAL FLAKES. IT ALSO APPEARED TO BE LEAKING FROM THE PINION SEAL, SOMETHING I WAS NOT AWARE OF LEADING UP TO THE INCIDENT.

THE REAR PROPELLER SHAFT BROKE WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 2 AT 60 M.P.H. (WASHINGTON STATE). THE DRIVELINE FLAILED AROUND AND DAMAGED THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE METAL BRACKET COMMON TO THE FUEL TANK. THIS IS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA 4WD. I FOUND A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM NHTSA # 07V324000 THAT STATES THE PROPELLER SHAFT WAS INCORRECTLY CAST AND COULD SNAP (JUST LIKE THIS ONE DID). I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT BECAUSE MY VIN DID NOT MATCH WITH THIS RECALL. THE PHOTOS I AM UPLOADING SHOWS THE SHAFT BROKEN OFF IN A CLASSIC CASE OF METAL FATIGUE DUE TO IMPROPER CASTING.

The contact owned a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. The contact's lawyer stated that another vehicle lost control due to a dropped water bottle and collided with his client's vehicle on its front driver's side at 50 MPH. The contact's lawyer stated that no air bags deployed. The contact's lawyer stated that the contact sustained injuries to the pelvis, which was fractured, a concussion, and contusions to the head, left leg, and a laceration to the head and back. Medical attention was required. The contact's lawyer stated that a police report was filed. The contact's lawyer mentioned that the contact was in a coma for two months and was on a ventilator for four months. The vehicle was towed to a private location. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The contact stated that the failure was not diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 500,000.

MY TOYOTA TACOMA (2007) APPEARS TO QUALIFY FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL BUT SEARCHING MY VIN DOES NOT BRING IT UP. THE MANUFACTURING FACILITY, DATES AND VIN RANGE ALL SEEM TO MATCH. "TAKATA RECALL". I WAS IN MOTION TRAVEL HOME ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I RAN OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE HEAD ON. THE AIRBAG PART CUT THE LEFT SIDE OF MY CHIN. THE ER DOCTOR SAID THE HOLE WAS THE SIZE OF TWO FIFTY CENT PIECES BUT TOGETHER. AND HE COULD SEE THE JAW MUSCLES. THE VEHICLE IS TOTAL. I HAVE A POLICE ACCIDENT REPORT, INSURANCE CLAIM, MEDICAL EXPENSE AND PICTURE OF THE CUT AND THE TRUCK. I WILL NEED HELP WITH THESE PHOTO AND DOCUMENTATION TO UPLOAD ON THE FORMAT.

The truck was getting repaired and the mechanic showed me the bottom of the truck and rust was everywhere. The bottom frames is rusty and has some rust holes.

As is well documented Toyota has had many years of trucks having rusted frames. Toyota settled a class action suit to cover the frame rust for 12 after the date of manufacture. The previous extended warranty on trucks made earlier were offered 15 years after date of manufacture. I now have a 2007 Tacoma that has had frame rust complaints since I took delivery in 2007. Everyone, including a regional factory service tech said it was normal. I believe that entitles me to have had my complaint well within the 12 years as I complained in 2007. Please help me and the thousands of other Toyota owners all suffering with the same issue. This always should have been treated as a recall.

I Purchased a 2007 Toyota Tacoma double cab used on 06/09/2017 with 41,915 miles from a car dealer (Lia Honda of Brewster NY.) I was aware of the frame( chassis) problem with corrosion ,but the sales man told me the truck was inspected any problems with the frame it would be fix before they sale it to customers. On October 13, 2018 I received by mail a warranty enhancement notification -ZH6 ,Limited service campaign -H0F; So I scheduled an appointment with to a dealer close to me (Johnstons Toyoya in Middletown, NY ). Johnstons Toyota inspected my truck on 10/26/2018 with 48,527 miles on it,and told me the frame pass. On 5/27/2021 I took my tacoma to my mechanic to service the AC compressor,while he was working under the truck he noticed the from frame behind the front bumper a hole in the frame support .I contacted Toyota and they told me they can't do anything for me to contact Toyota In texas to see if they can help me out with the problem they also told me the campaing expired on on 1/31/2019. The truck have only 59,000 miles .

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION); and the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for the recall repair; however, the dealer declined to service the vehicle because of the excessive rust on the subframe of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the subframe needed to be replaced before the recall repair could be performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 198,000.

Purchased my 2 tacoma in 11/24 second party learned of leaf spring tested and failed sent me home in rent a car demanding it back 2 min upon my arrival home due to the frame was damaged. Said they put it up on lift but didn't it was too dangerous. Had to he my vehicle out of their shop Saturday morning without the fix. Driving it off the lot from toyota Pittsfield Massachusetts. Called another toyota she sees in 16 it was inspected with recall but never fixed. I know if a pervious owner was aware who wouldn't get a fix for free? It came from an auction, a.dealership according to history. With no reports of it ever being fixed. I believe from much research this is the second recall for leaf springs. It was never explained to be except via text that it was terrible w insulation shoved in parts. Who had done it I'm not sure. CT. Toyota is amazed by the treatment I endured from Pitts toyota. Noone spoke to me.of alternatives, danger, cost to fix but just let me drive away unsafe. I'm appalled that toyota gets away with this when so many people are at risk. New tires oil change and this test Noone saw?? Until it was being cared for but refused. NO. It should be fixed all of this issue. The truck as many is in great shape engine everything for this is why I purchased it also knowing thinking how great totota is/was would be fixed being a federal recall. There are 10s of thousands of consumers still with this issue that most were unaware of. I was never personally told except a message.

Over the years, Toyota has had to issue numerous recalls for their Toyota Tacomas and frame replacements/maintenance required by Toyota due to rust and corrosion. However, Toyota chose not to replace all frames, instead decided to "treat" the issue with underspray. My Toyota, like many others, has received the recalled Toyota undercoat spray to prevent rust and corrosion on a frame with known issues (once in 2015, another in 2019). I have just received a phonecall from my mechanic that my frame is now unsafe to drive and needs to be fixed or replaced. However, Toyota has claimed they have no guarantee on the vehicle and it isn't there problem because it is outside of the timeframe. However...this car DID participate in their recall 2x. And the recall and work done did not solve the problem or the recalled part: The frame that his crippled by corrosion and rust due to a flaw in the manufacturing process. This is leading to a car that is due for a very significant, expensive improvement that was at no cause by owners actions, or a very unsafe HIGH NUMBER of vehicles still on the road with failing frames due to Toyota's inability to fix their root cause issue on their initial recall in order to save a few bucks.

I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA WHICH I BOUGHT IN JANUARY OF 2020. I NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE CHASSIS NEAR THE TRANSMISSION CROSSMEMBER HAD REALLY BAD CORROSION HAPPENING. THE RUST HAS EATEN UP A LARGE PART OF THE CHASSIS BEAM IN 3 DIFFERENT SPOTS SEVERELY AND BY THE LOOKS OF IT CAN SPLIT IN HALF IN NO TIME.THE TRUCK WAS ORIGINALLY FROM THE NEW YORK AND PENNSYLVANIA AREA. NOT TIL MONTHS AFTER I HAD PURCHASED THE TRUCK I WAS INFORMED THAT TOYOTA HAD A MASSIVE RECALL FOR RUSTED OUT FRAMES TO BE REPLACEMENT. I GONE 2 DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND THEY AREN'T WILLING TO INSPECT MY CHASSIS OR HELP ME OUT WITH ANYTHING.

WAS APPROACHING A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL, COASTING IN CASE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN BEFORE THE NEED TO STOP. LIGHT WAS STILL RED, SO I STEPPED LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE WAS NO SIGN OF BRAKING. I THEN INCREASED PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL, WITH NO BRAKING ACTION. SURPRISED AND CONCERNED, I THEN SET MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUSHED WITH ALL I HAD WITH BOTH FEET, BUT THERE WAS NO BRAKING ACTION THAT I COULD FEEL. THE TRUCK STOPPED AS IT BUMPED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. ENGINE SPEED WAS NORMAL WHEN THE EVENT BEGAN, AND WHEN THE EVENT ENDED. I DID HEAR A RELATIVELY MINOR INCREASE IN ENGINE SPEED DURING THE EVENT. THE BRAKES WORKED PROPERLY BEFORE AND AFTER THE EVENT. ONE ADDITIONAL NOTE. FOR YEARS I HAVE NOTICED A FEW TIMES PER YEAR A MOMENTARY INCREASE IN ENGINE SPEED IMMEDIATELY AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. THE SPEED INCREASE IS GREATER THAT AN A/C SPEED PICKUP, BUT LASTS ONLY BRIEFLY, THEN RETURNS TO IDLE. I KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH ENOUGH PRESSURE THAT THE TRUCK DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER FOLLOWING THE INCIDENT. DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THEY SPOKE WITH TOYOTA REPS AND WERE TOLD TOYOTA WAS UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEM. UNABLE TO TRUST THE TRUCK AND HAVING BEEN ADVISED THAT FORD HAD SIMILAR BRAKE FAILURES IN THE PAST CAUSED BY ABS BRAKE ACTUATOR, I PAID THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE ACTUATOR. AFTER SPENDING MORE THAN $1200 FOR REPAIR, I STILL DO NOT KNOW IF THE BRAKES WILL FAIL AGAIN. A BRIEF INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES TO ME THAT THIS WAS NOT A LOAN, RANDOM EVENT AS INDICATED BY TOYOTA REPS. THE CONSEQUENCES OF BRAKE FAILURE ARE SERIOUS. THE DEALER DID PROVIDE ME WITH THE ORIGINAL ACTUATOR THAT WAS REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK DURING THE REPAIR WORK. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND VEHICLE'S ENGINE REVVED TO AN EXCESSIVE NUMBER OF REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE, FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 6 SECONDS. I CONFIRMED NOTHING WAS HOLDING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOWN. THE ENGINE'S REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE WAS EXCESSIVE TO THE EXTENT, I FEARED THE ENGINE WOULD FAIL. THE UNCONTROLLED ENGINE REVOLUTION ENDED ON IT'S OWN. MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER STATED THERE IS AN ELECTRONIC CHIP INSTALLED TO LIMIT EXCESSIVE ENGINE REVOLUTION, PRIOR TO CAUSING ANY DAMAGE. DUNLOP AT20 P245/75/R16 DOT M670 C8ER 1012, TIRES ARE THE SECOND SET TO BE REPLAED ON MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. FIRST SET FAILED TO MEET THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY OF 70K MILES WITH ONLY 43K ON TIRES. WERE REPLACED AFTER MUCH HAGELING WITH GOOD YEAR. AFTER PUTTING 23K ON SECOND SET OF TIRES, FOUND ONE WITH A LARGE BUBBLE IN THE OUTER SIDEWALL. IF THIS TIRE WERE TO HAVE BLOWN OUT, A TRUCK THIS SIZE WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL AND THE POSSIBLITY OF SEVERE INJURIES WERE PRESENT. THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS THAT CAME WITH MY TACOMA STARTED RUNNING SO HOT THAT IT IS MELTING/CRACKING THE PLASTIC LENS/HOUSING. AFTER A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH OF THE PROBLEM, I CAME ACROSS MULTIPLE FORUMS WITH USERS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM OCCUR WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD BUT OTHERS, SUCH AS MYSELF, WERE ASKED TO PAY UPWARDS OF $800 FOR NEW HOUSINGS. AFTER LOOKING AT THE BULBS, I NOTICED THAT EVEN THE HOUSINGS FOR THE BULBS ARE SHOWING BURN MARKS. ALL FOUR DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS HAVE FAILED ONE AT A TIME, AND REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY (AT THE TIME). SINCE THEN, TWO OF THEM ( BOTH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE) HAVE FAILED AGAIN AFTER THE 1 YEAR REPLACEMENT PART WARRANTY RAN OUT. THIS POSSES A SAFETY HAZZARD AND A SECURITY RISK TO MYSELF AND ANYBODY ELSE OPERATING THIS VEHICLE. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET, IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, AND THEREFORE SHOULD BE UNDER A SAFETY RECALL.

THE VEHICLE'S ENTIRE ELECTRICAL WIRE HARNESS HAD TO BE REPLACED. DIAGNOSTIC CODE POINTED TO A CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE HARNESS HOOK-UP POINT WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. TOYOTA PUT OUT A MECHANIC'S BULLETIN FOR IT'S MECHANICS WHEN THIS CODE CAME UP TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL WIRE HARNESS PROBABLE CAUSE CORROSION. THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP AFTER STARTING THE TRUCK, DRIVER PUSHED THE BRAKE, TO MOVE TRANSMISSION FROM PARK TO REVERSE. THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR LIGHT LIT UP WHILE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. RIGHT SIGNAL CAME ON EVERY TIME THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, ALL THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT.

My 2007 Toyota Tacoma has an open recall on the rear leaf springs due to the risk of fuel tank puncture and fire. However, Toyota and their authorized dealership are unable to perform this safety recall because the vehicle’s frame is too severely rusted. The dealership informed me that attempting the repair could further damage the vehicle, and they requested I sign a waiver releasing Toyota of liability if harm occurs during the recall process. They also informed me that replacement frames are no longer available, so the recall cannot be completed as I was interested to pay for this to get the recall safely completed This leaves me with a vehicle that presents a known, life-threatening safety hazard, which Toyota cannot resolve. The frame corrosion is due to a previously acknowledged defect for which Toyota offered limited-time frame replacements that expired before I owned the vehicle. I believe Toyota is violating its obligation to provide a remedy for this open recall. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue, as it appears Toyota is leaving customers with dangerous, unrepaired vehicles and no available remedy.

STRUCTURE: The frame on my 2007 Tacoma single cab, 2 wheel drive truck is severely corroded in several places, making the vehicle structurally unsound. Additionally, the support bar for my radiator is so rusted out, the radiator is likely to fall out, should I hit a large pothole at any rate of speed. The frame has a roughly 1” hole completely through, on the front driver side, and is scaling and flaking in a number of areas. This vehicle is used almost solely as transportation to and from work, and running errands, in an area with moderate temps, so no salted roads. While we do live on an island, the truck is not brought to the beach, as it does not fit my entire family, and we have a separate 4x4 truck which we use for camping, beach days, etc. I know there was a recall on the frame, but we never received any notice, nor were we told by the Servco Toyota shop where the vehicle was serviced at that time. We bought the truck second hand from a dealership in 2011. The vehicle is available to be inspected, upon request.

TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND HE TOLD ME THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED THAT IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA WAS REPLACING THE RUSTED FRAMES FOR THE KNOWN PROBLEM BUT I CANNOT FIND HOW I CAN GET THE PROCESS STARTED.

2007 TOYOTA TACOMA, RUSTED FRAME.. I PURCHASED USED IN AUSTIN TEXAS ON OCT 2015 FROM A DEALERSHIP. THE TRUCK IS FROM A NORTHERN STATE, AFFECTED BY MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF RUST ON THE FRAME. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR A LOOK OVER, I WAS TOLD I HAD A FEW YEARS LEFT IN THE TRUCK BEFORE THE RUST ROTS COMPLETELY THROUGH. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THE 2007 MODELS AS WELL. Yesterday, 7/27/2022, I had my 2007 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab at my mechanic's shop for a minor issue. While on the lift he noticed significant rust on the frame rails. He brought me over and showed me extensive areas where the metal was completely rusted through. I have never seen anything like this on even the oldest of vehicles. Subsequently I did a search online and found that this was a known issue for many years of Tacoma truck frames, but I was never notified by Toyota or anyone including the local Toyota dealer where I have had services done. I cannot believe a company as well established as Toyota would allow such a potentially serious problem to go unaddressed. Toyota should be held responsible for selling defective and dangerous vehicles and be required to effect repairs as soon as possible completely at their cost. TOYOTA CORPORATE REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION OF FRAME ISSUES AND ONLY REFERS TO AN UNRELATED EXTENDED WARRANTY, WHICH I HAD PURCHASED AT THE TIME I PURCHASED MY 2007 TACOMA. TOYOTA CORPORATE ONLY INFORMED ME THAT THE REPAIR OFFER WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT IS EXPIRED. ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE FROM TOYOTA CORPORATE IS DENIED. MY VEHICLE IS NOW UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IN CLOSING, I NEGOTIATED THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE NEW IN JULY OF 2008. IT WAS A COMPANY VEHICLE AT THE TIME. IN 2009 I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM THE COMPANY AND HAVE BEEN THE REGISTERED OWNER FOR THE PAST 12 YEARS.

I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS ABOUT THE FRAME THEY SAID THE RECALL HAS EXPIRED AND MY TRUCK HAS BEEN 'FIXED' FOR THE FRAME ISSUE, NOW THERE DEFINITION OF FIXED IS A UNDERCOATING THAT HASN'T DONE A SINGLE THING TO PREVENT THE RUST. IT WILL NOT PASS THE VA STATE INSPECTION. I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON THIS VEHICLE FOR SOME [XXX] RECALL THAT HAS 'EXPIRED' A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD NOT EXPIRE. IT IS A DANGER TO MY LIFE AND OTHERS. I WILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE. IT IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. THIS EITHER NEEDS TO BE FIXED OR I NEED TO GET MY MONEY BACK. TOYOTA CAN'T BUILD FRAMES FOR THEIR TRUCKS. MINE IS ROTTED. TOYOTA PLANS TO SPRAY IT WITH A RUST INHIBITOR. THEY HAVE RECALLED EVERY 2006 AND OLDER TACOMA FOR THIS ISSUE AND WON'T RECALL THE 2007'S. I NOW OWN A PILE OF JUNK AND TOYOTA WON'T DO WHAT'S RIGHT EVEN THOUGH THEY CLEARLY KNOW THERE'S AN ISSUE.

Gas tank gas strap bracket rusted off

The rear strap that holds the gas tank to the bottom of the truck broke. When It came loose on one side it dropped to the street and was bounced up and bent up against the flexible, rear brake line. The brake line was not cut. The strap end dragged on the street causing sparks. I had no idea what all the noise was coming from. I thought I might have a loose exhaust pipe. I drove it a couple days until I noticed the metal hanging down. I used a mirror to see what it was and took it in right away for replacement. It cost me $330. The bracket could have cut the brake line, or pierced the gas tank. The tank could have dropped and blown up. I have never heard of this problem before. I've had older pick ups for 40 years with no such problem.

FUEL TANK STRAP RUSTED AND BROKE. NO WARNING. I WAS HEARING A NOISE WHEN I TOOK TAKE OFF AND DRIVING. COULDN'T FIGURED OUT WHAT THAT WAS UNTIL I LOOKED BACK AND FOUND THE GAS TABS STRAP WAS TANGLING AND HIT THE PROP SHAFT. THEN NOTICE THE TANK WAS HANGING 1/2'LOWER THAN THE FRONT. I CALLED THE TOYOTA AND THE DEALERSHIP AND BOTH SAID NOTHING THEY CAN DO. NO RECALL EVEN THOUGH I TOLD BOTH THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD THE FRAME REPLACED AND I TRIED TO GET THAT DONE BUT THEY SAID IT EXPIRED. I'VE ONLY OWN THE VERGIL'S FOR 3MTHS. SINCE THE FRAME DID NOT GET REPLACE THAT MEANS THAT THE FUEL, BRAKE,SPRING, TANK, STRAPS DID NOT GET REPLACE WHICH IS HIDDEN RECALLED. THE DEALER SHIP THAT MY FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT TOYOTA WOULD NOT DO FIX IT. SO OWNING THIS VEHICLE FOR 3 MTHS AND IF I HAD KNOWN THIS BEFORE I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE. I BOUGHT MY TRUCK USED. A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES I'VE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF SUSPENSION ISSUES. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD THERE'S NOTHING WRONG. MY DRIVE SHAFT WAS REPLACED A YEAR AGO. I WAS TRAVELING AT A SAFE RATE OF SPEED (APPROX. 20 MPH) AS I MADE THE TURN FROM THE SURFACE STREET TO THE LEFT-HAND, CURVING, ON-RAMP WHICH IS THE BEGINNING OF AN ELEVATED FREEWAY STRUCTURE. IT WAS MID-MORNING AND, ALTHOUGH THERE HAD BEEN SOME LIGHT RAIN OVERNIGHT, THE PAVEMENT WAS DRY. ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH THE CURVE THE TACOMA INEXPLICABLY ACCELERATED. I WAS PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE ACCELERATOR STUCK WHILE PASSING. I TAPPED IT TWICE TRYING TO RELEASE IT AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. DUE TO THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR, I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO MY INSURANCE AND ALSO REPORTED THE MATTER TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAUSE SIMILAR INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED ON PRIOR OCCASIONS (AND SINCE) BUT NO DAMAGE WAS DONE. I AM AWARE OF THE FLOOR MAT RECALL BY TOYOTA FOR THE PICKUP, BUT IN MY STRONG OPINION, THIS "ACCELERATION" ISSUE IS NOT CAUSED BY THE FLOOR MAT. RATHER, I BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGN OF THE BRAKE PEDAL/SYSTEM AND/OR THE ACCELERATOR. THE CURRENT DESIGN ALLOWS MY FOOT TO CATCH THE ACCELERATOR WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ACCELERATOR AND THE BRAKE PEDAL ARE LESS THAN 3 INCHES APART AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ONLY ABOUT 1INCH HIGHER THAN THE ACCELERATOR WHEN NEITHER PART IS BEING DEPRESSED. HOWEVER, WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT BECOMES LEVEL WITH THE ACCELERATOR AND IF MY FOOT IS NEAR THE SIDE OF THE PEDAL, MY FOOT CAN ALSO CONTACT THE ACCELERATOR, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO ACCELERATE WHILE THE BRAKE IS BEING APPLIED. THIS SITUATION HAS OCCURRED ON AT LEAST FOUR OCCASIONS, BUT ONLY THE ONE INVOLVED ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN I REPORTED THIS MATTER TO TOYOTA, I WAS ASKED NOT TO HAVE THE PICKUP REPAIRED/CHECKED UNTIL IT COULD BE INSPECTED BY A TOYOTA TECHNICIAN. AFTER EIGHT WEEKS AND SEVERAL PHONE CALLS, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. WHILE I NOW KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM WHEN IT OCCURS, ANOTHER DRIVER MIGHT NOT AND A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD RESULT. MOREOVER, MY FOOT SIZE IS LESS THAN AN 8 SO A DRIVER WITH A LARGER FOOT SIZE COULD EASILY HAVE SIMILAR OR GREATER PROBLEMS. AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS I STARTED EXPERIENCING A LOUD "SQUEAK" COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND A "WHISTLE" AT SPEEDS OF 65-80MPH. I CONTACTED DEALER AND TOOK IT IN FOR THEM TO TROUBLESHOOT THE ISSUES. AFTER ABOUT 4 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP ALONG WITH THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEMS I STARTED NOTICING A HEAVY VIBRATION AT SLOW SPEEDS. I BOUGHT NEW TIRES, FRONT END ALIGNMENT, AND HAD TIRES BALANCED AS PER MY DEALERS RECOMMENDATION. THEN THE ACCELERATION ISSUES STARTED..... I TOOK IT BACK TO MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY PERFORMED THE "FLOOR MAT FIX". THE VIBRATIONS JUST KEPT GETTING WORSE AND THE CONSTANT VISITS TO MY DEALER AND CALLS TO TOYOTA'S CORPORATE OFFICE ALWAYS ENDING WITH THE "THAT'S NORMAL FOR THESE TRUCKS" SAYING. THE OTHER DAY I WAS RETURNING HOME AND I WAS APPROACHING A CURVE I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SLOWED DOWN TO TAKE THE CURVE, I WENT TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE CURVE AND MY TRUCK WAS NOT TURNING. WE WERE INSPECTING THE UNDERBODY OF OUR COMPANY OWNED TACOMA. THERE IS MAJOR RUST ON THE FRONT FRAME, AND THE STEERING ARM (A-ARM?) WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE FRAME. THE RUST IS SUBSTANTIAL ENOUGH TO ALLOW POSSIBLE SEPARATION OF THE ARMS FROM THE FRAME. WE DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND SEE THAT CORROSION WAS A PROBLEM WITH EARLIER MODELS OF THE TACOMA. The entire chassis is rusted underneath. This vehicle is only 14 years old and the brake lines are completely rusted, the rear bumper cross arm that holds the frame from side to side is rusted. Multiple parts under the rear are having to be replaced due to the rust!

I was totally aware of the recall for these year models of Tacoma and I brought the truck in several times to have the frame inspected and asked for it to be replaced. The folks at Dorschel Automotive group turned me away saying it did not meet the "rust perforation standard." Lo and behold, when Dorschel was bought by Bob Johnson Auto Group, the first time I took it in they recognized that the frame was entirely rotted and would not pass inspection. At this point, I called Toyota Customer Service and they said they would not honor the recall as it is outside the window of time. Yet this is not a matter of me not taking proper action. I did. I did my due diligence and I am being harmed by the negligence of the service managers at Dorschel. I made Toyota aware that the frame inspection was not done properly. I could see visible rust and I made mention of that. Now I am in a really tough spot. The truck only has around 130K miles on it and planty of useful life but for this faulty frame. Consumer stated attempted to access the benefits under the warranty recall.

I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. IT'S FRAME HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER (HERTRICH) THREE SEPARATE TIMES FOR RUST TO THE FRAME. IT RECEIVED A RUST INHIBITOR COATING ON 1/16/15. IT WAS INSPECTED AGAIN ON 12/21/17 AND 1/3/19. DURING THE 1/3/19 INSPECTION, THE DEALER CONDUCTED A MULTI-POINT INSPECTION. MY TRUCK'S STEERING COMPONENTS AND STEERING LINKAGE WERE INSPECTED. IT RECEIVED A GREEN CHECK BY THE DEALER, THE HIGHEST RATING. ON 2/7/19, JUST ONE MONTH AFTER THE INSPECTION, MY POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT SAFELY TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC. MY TRUCK'S RACK AND PINION STEERING SYSTEM HAD HEAVY CORROSION, AND MOST OF THE POWER STEERING FLUID HAD LEAKED. MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION STEERING SYSTEM. IT WAS HEAVILY CORRODED. MY MECHANIC SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ONE THIS CORRODED. THIS HAPPENED ONCE A WEEK FOR 3 WEEKS IN 2015 AND AGAIN IN FEBRUARY OF 2016. IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN APRIL 2016. THIS PROBLEM DID NOT HAPPEN AT LOW SPEED AND IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN TWICE IN THE SAME DAY, EVEN DURING THE SAME CONDITIONS. I WENT TO WOLFCHASE TOYOTA TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY DECIDED NOT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I WENT TO PRINCIPAL TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THE PROBLEM BEFORE. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD RESET THE COMPUTER OR PUT IN A NEW ONE ($3000). EVEN WHEN THE ROAD IS DRY, IF ONE TIRE OF THE THREE LOSE ANY TRACTION MY BRAKES STOP FUNCTIONING MAKING IT INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO STOP BECAUSE THE ABS SYSTEM. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, APPARENTLY THIS ISSUE IS COMMON WITH MY GENERATION TRUCK. THERE HAVE BEEN COUNTLESS INSTANCES OF PEOPLE SLIDING INTO INTERSECTIONS UNABLE TO STOP BECAUSE OF THE ABS. THE TRUCK HAD APPROXIMATELY 62,000 MILES WHEN WE DROVE IT TO FLORIDA CHRISTMAS DAY. ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 30TH, WE RAN SOME ERRANDS THAT COVERED ABOUT 15 MILES OF CITY DRIVING. UPON RETURNING TO OUR HOTEL, AS WE BACKED IN TO A PARKING SPACE, THE TRUCK ACCELERATED WILDLY. THE TIRES SCREAMED AS WE BACKED UP ONTO A PARKING BERM (PICTURES INCLUDED) AND CONTINUED TO SQUEAL WHILE MY FOOT WAS STANDING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PUT THE TRUCK IN DRIVE, THE TRUCK CAME OFF OF THE BERM, BUT THE TIRES WERE STILL SQUEALING ALL THE WHILE I'M STILL STANDING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PUT IT IN PARK RIGHT AWAY AND SHUT IT OFF. LOOKING DOWN AT THE PEDALS, THERE WAS NOTHING UNUSUAL TO NOTE. NO MATS HAD MOVED AND THE PEDALS WERE AS THEY SHOULD BE. IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE BERM, THERE IS NO TELLING OF WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES WOULD HAVE BEEN. I RECALL THAT AS WE BACKED IN, MY FOOT WAS EITHER ABOUT TO STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL OR I HAD ALREADY BEGUN TO BRAKE. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR BECAUSE, WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON, THE ENGINE HAS SUFFICIENT RPM'S TO SLOWLY MOVE THE TRUCK WITHOUT IT. I WENT OUT A FEW HOURS LATER TO START THE TRUCK AND MOVE IT BACK AND FORTH. AT THAT TIME, EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. I ALSO TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE BERM AND TIRES AT THAT TIME, WHICH I CAN SUPPLY. THIS WAS A VERY UNNERVING EXPERIENCE AND I'VE BEEN MINDFUL OF IT SINCE. EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN A COUPLE OF WEEKS SINCE THE INCIDENT, I'M UNSURE I CAN HAVE FAITH THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. I BOUGHT AN UNDERCOVER TRUCK TONNEAU COVER TO COVER THE BED OF MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK. AFTER THREE YEARS OF USE THE COVER DEVELOPED SEVERE FATIGUE CRACKING AROUND THE MOUNTING HINGES. FEARING A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, WITH THE COVER POSSIBLY FLYING OFF INTO TRAFFIC, I REMOVED THE COVER FROM THE TRUCK. THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED BY UNDERCOVER AND THE PART REMAINS IN MY POSSESSION. WHILE ON A CAMPING TRIP MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA SUFFERED A SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION EVENT. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AND COMING TO A STOP THE TACOMA SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND FLEW OVER TWO GOOD SIZE BOULDERS A CAST IRON FIRE PIT AND CAME TO A REST AFTER HITTING A SOLID CONCRETE PICNIC TABLE. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH COHO CAMPGROUND HOSTS ACTING AS TO GO ON FILE WITH THE WASHINGTON STATE FORESTRY DEPARTMENT. THIS EVEN OCCURRED AT THE WYNOOCHEE DAM AND RESERVOIR LOCATED IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST OF WASHINGTON STATE. THE TRUCK WAS REMANDED TO TOYOTA OF OLYMPIA WASHINGTON AND THE INSURANCE CARRIER WAS NOTIFIED. THE TRUCK WAS DUE FOR THE WELL DOCUMENTED TOYOTA FLOOR MAT, GAS PEDAL AND BRAKING ACCELERATION OVERRIDE MODIFICATION. NOW LISTEN CAREFULLY HERE...THE FLOOR MATS WERE HEAVY DUTY RUBBER NON-TOYOTA BRAND MATS. THEY WERE NOT IMPEDING THE GAS PEDAL IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED INSTANTLY WHILE BRAKING AND ALMOST AT A DEAD STOP. REVIEW OF NHTSA FINDINGS ON THIS ISSUE ARE SHOCKING. I DID NOT HIT THE ACCELERATOR BY MISTAKE, THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE SIZE, FEEL AND CONSISTENCY OF THESE TWO INCREDIBLY DIFFERENT PEDALS. MANY CHILDREN AND CAMPERS WERE PRESENT IN THIS CAMPGROUND, THE SHEER LUCK THAT NO ONE WAS KILLED IS A MATTER OF FATE. THE FACT I AM WRITING YOU FROM MY LIVING ROOM AND NOT A JAIL CELL WHILE BEING HELD FOR VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER IS A MIRACLE. THIS IS NOT DRIVER ERROR, YOU HAVE A BUNCH OF 4 WHEEL TIME BOMBS OUT THERE TRAVERSING THE NATIONS HIGHWAYS. I HAVE A TOYOTA ON RECALL FOR FLOOR MATS. I DID NOT HAVE THE TOYOTA FLOOR MATS, NOT PROVIDED WHEN PURCHASED. ON 2/12/10 40K MAINTENANCE WAS DONE ON MY VEHICLE I EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT THE ACCELERATE / BRAKE ISSUE THAT TOYOTA WAS HAVING SAID MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. I ASKED THE ADVISER IF THE MECHANIC WOULD PLEASE CHECK THE ACCELERATOR & BRAKES WHILE PERFORMING THE MAINTENANCE CHECK, HE STATED HE THAT IT WOULD BE DONE WITH THE INSPECTION. UPON RECEIVING MY TOYOTA FROM THE SERVICE ADVISER, I AGAIN ASKED IF IT HAD BEEN DONE. HE STATED THAT MY TOYOTA WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, I DID NOT NOTICE ANY PROBLEM WITH EITHER THE ACCELERATOR OR BRAKING SYSTEM. ON THE MORNING OF 2/26/10 APPROXIMATELY 10:15 - 10:30 I WAS TAKING MY CHILD TO SCHOOL. I PARKED MY TOYOTA IN A CAR SPACE AND TOOK HER TO CLASS. I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE TO DRIVE HOME. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, STARTED THE TRUCK, SHIFTED TO REVERSE AND GENTLE TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL AT LEAST 53 FT BACKWARDS INTO A TREE. I TRIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKES BUT THE DIDN'T WORK. I REMEMBER GLANCING FORWARD FOR A SPLIT SECOND TO MAKE SURE MY FOOT WAS COMPLETELY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND APPLYING ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TURNING BACK AROUND AND THEN THE BACK OF MY TRUCK HIT THE TREE. I HAVE BEEN DENIED ACCESS TO THE FIELD TECHNICIAN'S REPORT TWICE. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS BROUGHT UP AFTER BOTH REVIEWS WAS FLOOR MATS. AFTER PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT, PRIOR TO CHANGING THE GEAR FROM DRIVE TO PARK, THE ENGINE REVVED UP VIOLENTLY ON IT'S OWN. MY FOOT WAS NO LONGER ON THE ACCELERATOR. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF, AND RESTARTED IT. IT STARTED NORMALLY, AND I HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH IT. THIS HAPPENED IN THE SUMMER OF 2009, AND HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE. NEW 07 TOYOTA TACOMA ACCESS CAB 2WD WITH 400 MILES ON IT EMITS LOUD WIND NOISE FROM WINDSHIELD AREA AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AROUND 70MPH+. SOUND WAS MORE LIKE A SCREECH THAN A WHISTLE AND WILL LIKELY DISTRACT MOST DRIVERS FROM FOCUSING ON ROAD AS IT DID ME. I DROVE IT AROUND FOR THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF OWNERSHIP TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND FOUND THE PROBLEM COULD BE RE-PRODUCED ABOUT 90% OF THE TIME ON THE FREEWAY AT THE RIGHT SPEED. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED THEY HAD JUST RECEIVED A TSB ABOUT IT BEING A BAD SEAL ON THE WINDSHIELD. (I DID NOT FIND THE TSB ON THE INTERNET YET, BUT IT COULD BE QUITE NEW AND NOT YET POSTED) AS THE TRUCK IS WELL UNDER WARRANTY, THEY PROMPTLY ARRANGED TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD COMPLETELY RE-SEALED. IT'S ONLY BEEN ONE DAY SINCE, BUT SO FAR THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE REPAIRED. TACOMA OWNERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS IT COULD PRESENT A SAFETY PROBLEM JUST BY HOW DISTRACTING IT IS WHILE DRIVING. *TR

WHEN STOPPED AT IDLE ENGINE SPEED, MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA DBL CAB PRERUNNER V6 WILL SURGE / LUNGE SUDDENLY. ALTHOUGH I HAVE THE BRAKES FIRMLY APPLIED, THE TRUCK WILL STILL MOVE A LITTLE BIT. I'VE DAMAGED PERSONAL PROPERTY BECAUSE OF IT. NO INJURIES (YET), BUT IT'LL SURE GET YOUR ATTENTION WHEN IT HAPPENS. ALSO, THE TRUCK WILL SOMETIMES ACCELERATE A BIT WHEN YOU HAVE TAKEN YOUR FOOT OFF OF THE GAS. NOTHING DRASTIC, BUT IT SHOULDN'T DO THIS. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN WITH ME; ENOUGH THAT I WON'T LET ANYONE ELSE DRIVE MY VEHICLE FOR FEAR IT MAY STARTLE THEM AND THEY MAY LOSE CONTRROL OF IT. THIS HAPPENS VERY FREQUENTLY.

MY TRUCK A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB, LURKS FORWARD A BIT WHEN AIR CONDITIONING (A/C )IS ON. THIS HAPPENS WHEN AT STOP EVEN WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I SUSPECT THIS OCCURS WHEN A/C COMPRESSOR KICKS IN AS IT RECYCLES. COUPLE OF TIMES EITHER I ALMOST BUMPED THE CAR THAT STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME OR HIT A PEDESTRIAN WALKING RIGHT IN FROM OF ME. I NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY OF IT ON OTHER VEHICLES. IT JUST MAKES ME CONCERNED. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCED THIS ON TACOMA TRUCK, BUT NOTICED ALMOST ALL OF TACOMA OWNERS AGREED WITH THIS PROBLEM(ACCORDING TO INTERNET FORUM, TOYOTANATIONS.COM. I WILL BE VISITING THE DEALER VERY SOON ,BUT HEARD FROM OTHER PEOPLE THAT THEY WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT WAS JUST NORMAL. MY SAFETY CONCERN REGARDING THE TRUCK LED ME TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB OFFROAD 4X4 . VEHICLE SURGES (RPM INCREASES 200-300 RPM)WHEN IN GEAR AT A STOP. DOESN'T MATTER IF AC IS ON OR OFF. THIS HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS NEAR ACCIDENTS WITH VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME, MY GARAGE DOOR AND THE WORK BENCH IN MY GARAGE. VEHICLE IDLES EXTREMELY FAST (1500 RPM) WHEN COLD WHICH IS DANGEROUS ON SLIPPERY ROADS AND HAS CAUSED ME TO SLIDE THROUGH STOP SIGNS. VEHICLE IDLES ROUGH, DOESN'T MATTER IF AC IS ON OR OFF. VEHICLE HAS A HARSH STUTTER SHIFT BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND. VEHICLE HAS A VERY NOTICEABLE VIBRATION AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 15 AND 25 MPH. THIS VIBRATION OCCURS WHEN ACCELERATING, DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED OR DECELERATING. THE VIBRATION OCCURS WHETHER BRAKING OR NOT. THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT IS ENGINE BRAKING WHEN LETTING UP ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE AT SPEEDS 40 MPH OR SLOWER. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD ON ICY ROADS. ALL THESE PROBLEMS BEGAN AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD 500 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THESE ISSUES AND TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT DETECT ANY OF THE PROBLEMS. ALSO, THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES ARE TERRIBLE IN SNOW. *JB

I WAS DRIVING DOWN HILL ALONG ABOUT 50 KM/H. I NOTICED STOP LIGHTS AND CARS SPINNING AND SLIDING EVERYWHERE. I GENTLY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE THROTTLE TO START ENGINE BRAKING AND AS USUAL NOTHING HAPPENS IMMEDIATELY. WORSE, TRUCK STARTED TO ACCELERATE BECAUSE OF RPM HANG PROBLEM ON EVERY MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED MODEL (MY COMPLAINT TO DEALER WAS IGNORED TWICE). THIS IS NOT EXACTLY A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN PUSH THE BRAKES EVEN WITH ABS BECAUSE IT ALSO IS AN OFF SLOPE TURN. INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN GRACEFULLY, THE RPM HANG ACTUALLY ACTS LIKE A CRUISE CONTROL. COMBINED WITH THE DOWNHILL AND THE RPM HANG I AM NOT DECELERATING AT ALL! SUDDENLY THE ECU FINALLY DECIDES TO CLOSE THE THROTTLE (FUEL CUT OFF). AT THIS POINT TRUCK TAIL OF MY TRUCK SLIDE TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE LEFT. ONLY MY 20 YEAR EXPERIENCE AND GOOD LUCK LET ME AVOID A FATAL ACCIDENT. THE NON-LINEAR THROTTLE RESPONSE IS NOT SAFE. THIS IS JUST DANGEROUS HOW THE ECU IS PROGRAMMED! MAYBE BECAUSE ONLY <10% OF ALL TRUCKS HAVE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS TOYOTA DOESN'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT. TOYOTA MUST ISSUE ECU PATCH FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION MODELS V6 TACOMA, FJ CRUISER TO ELIMINATE: 1.RPM HANG WHEN SHIFTING 2.HIGH RPM (1450) WHEN ROLLING DOWNHILL IN NEUTRAL OR WITH CLUTCH DEPRESSED 3.MAKE LINEAR THROTTLE RESPONSE. *JB
