Frame is rusted out under engine above axle housing.

I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma that has a significant amount of frame rust. I have recently learned that Toyota lost a class action lawsuit on this model of Tacoma because the frames would rot quickly. I was not aware of this recall, nor was I notified and because of that I missed the 12-year windows for Toyota to replace the frame. Toyota's Owner app made no mention of this either. The only recall that I received was an issue with leaf springs which I had corrected when the parts came in. I'd like to know what I can do to have my truck's frame replaced, or something comparable.

frame and leaf spring rusting badly. if the frame or leaf spring brakes while driving will cause accident and possible fire from hitting by fuel tank putting my life and the lives of others in truck as well as persons near truck. I had truck in for tire rotation in 8/2022 problem was reported. frame starting to rust badly will not be able to lift vehicle from the frame soon. no warning has been reported. vehicle has been recalled. No recall was sent to me about problem now the company will not fix

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while the vehicle was at a local dealer they informed the contact that their vehicle frame was rusted and needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION) however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of failure and told the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

Headlight shows visible signs of over heating of the amber lenses on both driver and passenger side. Amber lenses are melted, obscured, burned through and causing additional discoloration to the clear lens of the headlight itself. This creates a safety issue for both driver and passenger side headlights and amber lights not illuminating properly but also reducing the reliability and longevity of the lighting systems themselves.

The daytime driving lights are too hot causing the plastic housing to melt, crack and, in some cases, break. My research has found that this is a common problem in Toyota Tacoma trucks from 2005-11. In April 2015, Toyota replaced the headlight assemblies with a supposed "redesigned" assembly to address this issue. However, now in April 2021, the "redesigned" assemblies have again melted, cracked and broken due to the daytime driving lights being too hot and too close to the light assembly. Nothing was redesigned in 2015. Whatever safety or fire hazard in the owner or operator that caused Toyota to replace the headlight assemblies in 2015 still exists today. I have contacted Toyota and my dealer and they have offered no assistance or remedy.

THERE IS AN ISSUE ON DRIVING AMBER SIGNAL LIGHTS LOCATED ON FRONT OF VEHICLE. BULBS ARE TOO HOT, AND HAVE MELTED AND CRACKED THE LENSE COVER ON THE INSIDE OF THE HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLY. IT IS HAMPERING LIGHT OUT PUT, AND COULD FORM A HOLE IN THE FUTURE WHICH WILL PROVIDE A HIGH BEAM OF LIGHT TO ON COMING TRAFFIC. ALSO, IT COULD IGNITE DUE TO HEAT AND PLASTIC MELTING. REPORTS OF THIS OCCURING ON TOYOTA VEHICLES HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS WITH NO RESOLVE. MIND YOU, THIS IS A ENGINEER OR MANUFACTURING MISHAP AND ERROR AS THEY FAILED TO CONSIDER AT THE MOMENT OF DESIGNING /MANUFACTURING, AND NOW THE RESULTS ARE MORE THAN EVIDENT. OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES ARE NOT HAVING THIS ISSUE WHICH MEANS THAT SOMEONE FIGURED OUT A RESOLVE ON THEIR FUTURE PRODUCTION IN ORDER TO AVOID BAD PUBLICITY. IT IS FAIR TO SAY, THAT TOYOTA SHOULD REPLACE SUCH A DEFECT, OR REIMBURSE ITS CUSTOMERS WHO DECIDE TO REPLACE THEM DUE TO SUCH A DEFECT. THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING THE VALIDITY OF THIS MANNER!

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while pulling into the driveway, the transmission suddenly disengaged causing the vehicle to stall. The contact turned off the vehicle and noticed that transmission fluid was leaking underneath the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission line had rusted through causing the transmission failure. The transmission line was replaced; however, the forward gears remained inoperable. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall for the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

DRIVESHAFT AND UNIVERSAL JOINT PROBLEM. TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT - ZH2" FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT SHOULD BE A FULL RECALL, AS THE CONDITION CAN LEAD TO SUDDEN DRIVESHAFT FAILURE, LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, AND DEATH. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO ALSO EXTEND TO THE CENTER BEARING AND POSSIBLY THE DRIVESHAFT ITSELF, AS I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE UNDER WARRANTY, AND STILL HAVE VIBRATION ISSUES EVEN AFTER THE WARRANTIED PARTS (AND CENTER SUPPORT BEARING AT SIGNIFICANT EXTRA COST) WERE REPLACED. THIS VIBRATION BEGINS AROUND 40 MPH AND INCREASES THROUGH 60 MPH. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND MAY SUSTAIN A SUDDEN DRIVESHAFT FAILURE FROM IMPROPER REMEDIATION OF THIS ISSUE UNDER THE ZH2 CAMPAIGN.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that she received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V388000 (Vehicle Speed Control). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the floor mats were replaced; however, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed and after the accelerator pedal was released, the brake pedal was depressed, and the accelerator pedal became stuck. The contact stated that the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact was able to depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty and no further assistance provided. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

I HAVE REPORTED TO TOYOTA THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL WORKS INTERMITTENTLY AND THAT IT GOES ON AND OFF AS IT PLEASES. TOYOTA HAS RESPONDED THAT THAT ISSUE IS NOT COVERED WITH THE CURRENT SPIRAL CABLE CLOCK SPRING RECALL. MY TRUCK VIN IS A FEW DIGITS AWAY FROM THE CURRENT LIST. I HAVE REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE SPIRAL CABLE CLOCK SPRING CONTROLS THE CRUISE CONTROL JUST LIKE DOES CONNECTION BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG AND/OR THE VEHICLE'S HORN AND OTHER DEVICES AND THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. MY CRUISE CONTROL HAS QUIT/STOPPED WHILE THE TRUCK IS IN MOTION.

THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED IN 2013 THE DEALER CUT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND REFLASHED THE COMPUTER. IT'S STILL NOT RIGHT. TOYOTA HAD AN INDEPENDENT LAB TO LOOK AT THE EVENTS RECORDER AND REPORTED EVERYTHING IS FINE. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was inspected, and determined that the entire subframe had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where the same diagnostic result was provide,d and the contact was informed that the entire subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. I just learned from my Mechanic that the Frame Corrosion is bad. The frame was inspected by Vanderstyne (now West Herr) Toyota on 06/20/2020. It passed the Inspection at that time, so they did not do anything. But within 4.5 years and only a little more than 6,000 miles driving since then - this corrosion shows up. I think the Toyota Specs for the Corrosion Inspection were not sufficient. Toyota should be held accountable for their negligence. I only have 72,900 miles on this Tacoma. I would have liked to keep it for another 5 years or so, but now I cannot and Toyota washed their hand when I contacted them.

HAD JUST ENTERED MY DRIVEWAY AND TACOMA CABIN SUDDENLY FILLED WITH HEAVY SMOKE AND SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING. STOPPED VEHICLE, SET BRAKE AND GOT AWAY FROM IT AFTER OPENING BOTH DOORS. SHORT TIME LATER OPENED HOOD TO TRY AND DETERMINE WHAT HAD GONE WRONG EXPECTING S RADIATOR HOSE LEAK. AFTER EXAMINING FLUIDS, ONLY THE POWER STEERING TANK WAS EMPTY AND PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE SMELLED LIKE CABIN DID. HAD TACOMA TOWED TO DEALER TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG. THEIR MECHANIC FOUND MASSIVE CORROSION OF THE POWER STEERING RACK AND LINES WERE SPLIT/ROTTEN BLOWING POWER STEERING FLUID ONTO MANIFOLD AND LOWER STEERING SHAFT FREEING UP. THEY HAD TO REPLACE POWER STEERING RACK, LINES, OUTTER TIE RODS AND STEERING SHAFT. THEN DID AN ALIGNMENT. BTW THIS TACOMA HAD A FRAME REPLACEMENT ABOUT A YEAR AGO. I FIRMLY BELIEVE POWER STEERING RACK COULD HAVE BEEN STRESSED DURING THAT TIME. ALSO THEY SHOULD HAVE DETECTED THE CORROSION PROBLEM THEN. THE MECHANIC AND SERVICE ADVISOR SHOWED ME WHAT WAS LEFT LEFT OF PSR...SEVERE CORROSION HAD LEFT PIECES OF IT FLAKING OFF. I'M NOT HAVING MUCH SUCCESS GETTING TOYOTA TO COVER PARTS $$$ REPLACEMENT AND I AM A 4 TIME BUYER OF TOYOTA VEHICLES SINCE 1980'S. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED I WOULDN'T BE WRITING THIS.

THE DRL (DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS) BULBS WERE DESIGNED TO CLOSE TO THE LENS COVER AND THE BULB IS TO HOT. IT BURNT / MELTED THE LENS ON BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT HEADLIGHTS. IT LEAVES A DARK SPOT ( APPROX 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER) . IT HAPPENED WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMP WAS HOT (GREATER THAN 105 DEG F) AND THE RUNNING LIGHTS WERE ON (THEY COME ON AUTOMATICALLY WHEN TRUCK IS STARTED). I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE (GOOGLE SEARCH) AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THERE HEADLIGHTS HAVING A MELTED / BURNT SPOT ON BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES. THE LOCAL DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO FIX OR RECALL CURRENTLY. I HAVE READ THAT SOME PEOPLE WERE GETTING THIS PROBLEM FIXED IF THE MILEAGE OR TIME WAS WITHIN THE WARRANTY. MINE OCCURRED AFTER. COULD THE EXCESSIVE BRAKE BIAS CAUSED ROTATION OF THE REAR AXLE HOUSING AND ABS SENSORS BE IMPARTING A PREMATURE FALSE, IMPENDING WHEEL LOCKUP SIGNAL, TO THE ABS COMPUTER TO UNNECESSARILY BYPASS FLUID UNDER PRESSURE BACK TO THE RESERVOIR AND THUS NOT MAINTAIN FULL BRAKE PRESSURE TO ALL FOUR BRAKES/WHEELS DURING MEDIUM TO HEAVY BRAKING ON GOOD ROAD CONDITIONS? UNUSUAL BRAKE SHOE WEAR PATTERNS EXIST. ON SUBJECT VEHICLE THE REAR SHOES AT LAST INSPECTION APPEARED TO BE ABOUT HALF WORN AWAY AND THE FRONT DISC PADS WERE RELATIVELY LITTLE WORN AND ONE COULD EXPECT THAT THE BACKS WOULD NEED CHANGING TWO TO THREE TIMES RELATIVE TO THE FRONT DISCS ONCE. THIS MAY SUPPORT THE THEORY THAT A SEVERE BRAKE BIAS EXISTS AND COULD BE DUE TO A MALFUNCTIONING ABS SYSTEM? THIS VEHICLE HAS WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE A BREAK PROBLEM. THE PRESSURE AND LENGTH OF PEDAL DEPRESSION REQUIRED TO STOP THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP UNDER AVERAGE DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT ACTUALLY FEELS AS THOUGH THE PEDAL HAS NOT FULLY ENGAGED THE BRAKING SYSTEM WHEN COMPLETELY DEPRESSED. THE LENGTH OF TRAVEL IN THE PEDAL FROM THE POINT WHERE BREAKS INITIALLY ENGAGE AND COMPLETELY STOPS IS EXCESSIVE AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO TOYOTA FOR SERVICE AND THEY HAVE INDICATED THAT THE BREAKS ARE WITHIN TOYOTA SPECIFICATIONS AND DO NOT REQUIRE SERVICE.

ENTERING MY COMPLAINT AS ELECTRICAL AS IT INVOLVED THE DOOR ACTUATOR MECHANISMS AND FOB FOR LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOOR LOCKS - FOB GETS EASILY "UN PROGRAMMED" AND CANNOT BE REPROGRAMMED. DOOR ACTUATORS ARE FAULTY WITH LIGHT DUTY DC MOTORS THAT OPERATE THE DOOR LOCK MECHANISM - THE DC MOTORS ARE PRONE TO CARBON BUILD-UP INSIDE, ETC. REAR DOORS (AND POSSIBLY FRONT DOORS, AS WELL) HAVE INTERIOR FAILURE OF DOOR EXIT HANDLE WHICH IS A LIFE-SAFETY ISSUE IN THE EVENT ONE MUST EXIT THE VEHICLE. In 2017, I participated in Toyotas frame recall where they determined that the frame didn’t need to be replaced and the dealership applied corrosion resistant undercoating. The frame has now developed a large 11inch visible crack and holes that will prevent it from passing state safety inspection. I contacted Toyota about the failure but they said they were unable to address it as this time due to the recall no longer being active and encouraged me to file a report with NHTSA

My 2009 Toyota Tacoma is experiencing the same technical problems as recall 14V168000 and 12V092000. I call Toyota headquarters and they refused to examine my vehicle without paying the diagnostic fee even though my vehicle is exhibiting the exact same issue Toyota is recalling the truck. A mechanic examined the truck and stated the airbag is not active and will not deploy and advised to reach out to Toyota to have them examine it. Even though my truck is not on the recall list however it is exhibiting exactly what the recall is calling for and Toyota is failing to acknowledge it.

Vehicle was involved in an accident while starting to turn left onto a side street. The Tacoma was struck in both driver side doors by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado K3000 driven by an 85 year old who either ran the stop sign or did not see her even though she was signaling and the truck had the option driving lights that are on all the time. The Tacomas doors were pushing in almost a foot and the truck was pushed sideways several feet. Tacoma driver injured her side and has a probable concussion. This Tacoma is equipped with side seat and side curtain airbags but neither deployed. The insurance claims adjuster stated that based on the damage, the airbags should have deployed.

I ALWAYS WANTED A TOYOTA TRUCK EVER SINCE I WAS 16. NOW AT 38 I DECIDED TO PURCHASE A 2009 TACOMA BRAND NEW AND I CURRENTLY HAVE 30,000 MILES ON IT AND I BEGAN NOTICING AN ANNOYING WHINING SOUND FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AT 65 - 70 MPH. THE ORIGINAL WATER BY-P PIPE WAS FAULTY. THE PIPE WAS MADE OF PLASTIC AND IT WORE OFF AT THE FLANGE. THIS CAUSED COOLANT TO LEAK OUT AND CAUSED OVERHEATING, LOSS OF HEAT AND COOLANT. THE NEW PART NUMBER FROM TOYOTA IS 1626875131 WHICH IS NOW MADE OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE STAINLESS STEEL. THE PART FROM THE DEALER LIST 58.04 THE LABOR FROM THE DEALER I WAS QUOTED WAS 6-8 HOURS AND TOTAL PARTS WOULD COST ABOUT $150. WHICH INCLUDED GASKET 1625875021, BOLT W WASHER 90119A0183, GASKET, INTAKE 1717775040, GASKET, THROTTLE 2227175070, AND SUPER LONGLIFE ANTIFREEZE 2 00272SLLC2. I DID THIS WORK MYSELF AND AT THE AGE OF 59 IT WAS BOTH A MENTAL AND PHYSICAL STRAIN. THE INTAKE HAS TO BE TAKEN OFF TO GAIN ACCESS INTO THE VALLEY TO REACH THE WATER BY-P PIPE. I DID THIS WORK IN DEC. 2019. I HAD A HARD TIME SEEING EXACTLY WHERE THE ANTI-FREEZE WAS COMING FROM AND HAD REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT A NUMBER OF TIMES BEFORE REALIZING THE REAL ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FROM TOYOTA AS IT COULD CAUSE A CAR TO OVER HEAT AND BLOW A HEAD GASKET BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY PART. IT MUST BE OBVIOUS TO TOYOTA BECAUSE THE PIPE IS NOW STAINLESS STEEL. I'M LUCKY I DIDN'T BREAK ANY INTAKE BOLTS OR FUEL LINES IN THE PROCESS. MY 2009 TOYOTA TRUCK HAS ALMOST 200K AND IS BACK RUNNING WITHOUT LEAKING ANTI-FREEZE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT: P0420 FAULT CODE. ALSO, THERE IS A RATTLING SOUND AND EXHAUST BACK UP TO THE PRESSURE RELEASE MOUNT WHERE THE EXHAUST CONNECTS TO THE ENGINE. THE LAST OCCURRENCE TOOK PLACE AS I WAS ENTERING A PARKING SPACE THE ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORCING ME TO FORCEFULLY APPLY BRAKES AND PUSHING THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK. TAKEN BACK 3 TIMES TO DEALER THEY SAY ITS NORMAL BUT I KNOW IT IS NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE BUT WOULD EVENTUALLY BE ABLE TO RESTART IT. THE DEALER REPLACED A COMPUTER CHIP BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA HAS A DEMENTED MIND OF ITS OWN WHEN IT COMES TO UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION. I WILL DESCRIBE WHAT IT HAS DONE AT LEAST 10 TIMES IN THE YEAR AND A HALF SINCE I (UNFORTUNATELY) PURCHASED IT. AS I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND APPLY IT TO THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE SPEEDS UP TO MORE THAN 7,000 RPM. I CONTINUE PRESSING ON THE BRAKE WHICH STARTS TO SLIP. TO AVOID A CRASH I MUST QUICKLY SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. AS THE ENGINE REACHES MAXIMUM RPM'S, IT THEN DIES BACK TO AN IDLE. IT IS NOT THE FLOOR MAT OR THE ACCELERATION PEDAL CAUSING THIS. WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA SPORT PICK-UP TRUCK IN A LOWES HOME IMPROVEMENT CENTER PARKING LOT TODAY (11/27/10 AT 2:25 PM), MY TACOMA BEGAN A VERY RAPID ACCELERATION AS I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN ROUNDING AN ISLE TURN IN THE LOT AND PREPARING TO PARK THE VEHICLE. I APPLIED IMMEDIATE HEAVY PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE SINCE A TOYOTA PRIUS WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND I DID NOT WANT TO HIT IT. Went for an inspection and entire frame is completely rotting out. Could have ben killed. Truck only has 65,000 miles on it because it was previously owned by my 80 year old grandfather. Toyota should have to fix everyone of these issues not just a certain time frame.

I WENT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND THEY QUOTED ME NEAR $2,000 TO REPLACE. THE TRUCK SEEMS TO RIDE ROUGHER WITH EACH PASSING DAY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE FINE BUT BOTH OF THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS ARE BAD AND THEY FURTHER SAID THAT THEY NORMALLY REPLACE THE HUB ASSEMBLY WITH THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND THAT WAS PART OF THE REASON FOR THE HIGH COST ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE REP.

Vehicle: 2009 Toyota Tacoma VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 128,400 Owner: Jacob Grove, Anderson, SC Summary of Issue: The frame of this 2009 Toyota Tacoma has developed severe rust perforation that makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. My independent mechanic has refused to work on it due to safety concerns, and Toyota of Greenville (SC) has confirmed that the frame is extensively corroded and requires replacement. Background: Toyota previously issued a Customer Support Program (CSP) for frame corrosion affecting 2005–2009 Tacomas in northern states, including Ohio, where this truck was purchased and operated. In June 2018, the vehicle was inspected at Don Wood Toyota in Athens, OH (91,600 miles). The dealership recorded “no perforation” and did not apply the protective coating or replace the frame. The truck has been minimally driven since (an average of 6,000 miles per year). In May 2024, at 128,400 miles, a mechanic and dealership confirmed the frame has multiple areas of severe perforation, including around brake lines and exhaust mounts. Concern: It is unreasonable that a vehicle frame could go from “no perforation” to “severe perforation” in only 36,000 miles and six years of light use. This indicates either: The 2018 inspection under Toyota’s CSP was inadequate, or The frame was already compromised but not properly addressed at the time. Safety Risk: The vehicle cannot be safely lifted, worked on, or driven in its current condition. The rapid deterioration presents a risk of frame failure while driving, endangering occupants and others on the road. Request: I am submitting this complaint so that NHTSA is aware of ongoing frame corrosion failures in 2005–2009 Toyota Tacomas, even in cases where Toyota previously inspected and declined to repair during the CSP period. This case demonstrates that the problem may not have been properly identified or corrected during program inspections, leaving unsafe vehicles on the road. I own a '09 Toyota Tacoma (VIN: [XXX]) that I purchased 5/15/18 from Long Subaru, Webster Ma. On 9/1/21 we noticed a rot hole in the frame. We then learned there was a recall/warranty extension on rotted '09 Tacoma frames. On 9/2/21 we brought the truck to Toyota of Nashua, NH. We were told the warranty extension expired in May and the frame would not be covered. We were sent on our way as if this vehicle is safe to drive. I brought the vehicle to a mechanic to see if he could weld a plate over the hole. He said the frame was so rotted and nothing to weld it to. He also detected movement in the frame due to all the rot. He said it was unsafe to drive. On 9/23 I called Toyota corporate customer service to understand why I was never notified. They said they sent notification to the previous owner, then tried to backtrack and say they also sent it to me. Several days later we learned from a Toyota dealership employee (off the record) that the notification was never sent to us and only sent to the previous owner . Their failure to notify us of a safety recall (which some articles state was masked as a warranty extension) has put us at risk. This rot didn't happen over the summer! They need another recall to save lives before someone gets injured! 10/19/21 I called Toyota customer service again. I tried to get this issue escalated to a supervisor. They put me on hold. After 1 hour I hung up. 10/19/21 I filed a claim with the Massachusetts AG. They pointed me in your direction I am so baffled how this vehicle passed yearly inspections. During Mass inspections we don’t pass vehicles with dark tinted windows, lift kits that are too high, aftermarket headlights/brake light, yet, we pass a vehicle with a rotted frame that had a recall on it and a class action lawsuit. I had my mechanic take the passenger door panel off to investigate a rattle in the door. What he found was the seat belt anchor bolt for the front passenger had come loose and was rattling around inside the access door ( a rear door where the front passenger seatbelt is mounted). This is a serious safety problem as the seatbelt would not have worked properly in an accident, not being properly bolted/anchored to the vehicle. My mechanic stated he has never seen a bolt like this come loose before, usually they are so tight they are very difficult to remove. I have never received a recall notice for this problem and have always taken this vehicle in for all recalls. I am really upset as I now see Toyota has an informal recall for this problem, yet I had to pay a mechanic to fix it. The consumer did have the recall repair performed.

SEATBELT INERTIA REEL LOCKS UP UNDER NORMAL (NON EMERGENCY) DRIVING MANEUVERS, SUCH AS NORMAL STOPS, LOW SPEED CURVES, ETC. SEAT BELT WILL NOT UNLOCK, THEREBY PINNING DRIVER TO SEAT. I HAVE AN '09 TOYOTA TACOMA EXTRA CAB. WHEN I EXIT THE VEHICLE THE SEAT BELT GETS CAUGHT ON MY SHOULDER AND TWISTS IN SUCH A WAY AS TO NOT RETRACT PROPERLY. IF I THEN OPEN THE REAR DOOR, THE BELT WILL ALWAYS GET TRAPPED BY THE BOTTOM OF THE REAR DOOR WHEN I CLOSE IT. SINCE THE BELT IS NOT IN THE PROPER PLACE AND NOT SECURED BY THE PROPER ANCHOR POINT I FEEL THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT THE SEAT BELT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HOLD MY HIPS IN THE SEAT AND RESULT IN MY SLIDING UNDER THE BELT. We took the Toyota Tacoma VIN [XXX] , is be service oil change , clear out lights on dash board repair tires. the mechanic put the truck on the lift and had to drop it down due to the massive amount of rust on the frame, that they were concerned it would brake in half. We are the original owner of this 2009 Tacoma and never received any information about the recall. My address has never changed since the purchase. Please contact us to help get this corrected ... ODI #11516361 I bought this 2009 Toyota Tacoma with 20,990 miles on it on 11/22/2019. Then the pandemic hit the USA and the truck sat for many months. Then in April 2023 I brought the truck in for repairs and the mechanic told me the frame was rusted real bad and that the recall was past the deadline. I brought it to Toyota of Watertown Dealership on 4/07/2023 with 33,348 miles on it and they said there was nothing they could do because the truck was over the 12 years of manufacturing recall date. My truck was manufactured on 8/20/2009, so my recall ended on 8/20/2021. I owned the truck for 19 months during the recall and I never received a recall notice from Toyota. If I had known I would have had it inspected before the 12 years were up and Toyota would have been responsible for the rusted out frame. Toyota is negligent and liable for not informing me of the recall. Now I am stuck with a rusted out dangerous vehicle.

MY TACOMA HAS A CONSTANT SHIMMY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. MY MECHANIC AND TOYOTA SERVICE HAVE TRIED BALANCING, ALIGNMENTS AND ROAD-FORCE TESTING, BUT NOTHING WORKS TO ELIMINATE THE SHAKE. IT IS AT IT'S WORST WHEN I FIRST ACCELERATE TO CRUISING SPEED AFTER THE TRUCK HAS SAT FOR EIGHT HOURS. AT THESE TIMES IT IS AN APPROXIMATELY A 1/4 INCH SHIMMY IN THE WHEEL, AND IS QUITE A VIOLENT SHAKE. IT SEEMS TO DISSIPATE AFTER A WHILE, BUT THE SHIMMY NEVER GOES AWAY COMPLETELY. AFTER RESEARCHING, LEARNED THIS IS AN AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING (OTHERWISE KNOWN AS A SPIRAL CABLE) ISSUE THAT HAS A RELATED RECALL FOR 2005-2009 TOYOTA TACOMAS UNDER CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12V-092. THAT RECALL APPLIES ONLY TO 7 CHANNEL CIRCUIT SPIRAL CABLES AND NOT THE 16 CHANNEL ONES. THE 7 CHANNEL CIRCUITS ARE STEERING WHEELS WITHOUT THE AUDIO CONTROLS, WHERE THE 16 CHANNEL CIRCUITS HAVE STEERING WHEEL AUDIO CONTROLS. TOYOTA DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE $400 FOR PART, PLUS LABOR. THE AIR BAG SENSOR CAME ON IN MY '09 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A MECHANIC AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS RUN. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A FAULTY AIR BAG SPIRAL CABLE. THIS IDENTICAL ISSUE FORCED A RECALL OF 481,000 TACOMAS, INCLUDING '09 VEHICLES. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE VIN # DATABASE THAT IS COVERED BY THE RECALL. I HAVE 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB 4X4 V6. I ALSO HAD 2008 MODEL OF THE SAME VEHICLE. BOTH THESE VEHICLES SHARED A COMMON NEGATIVE CHARACTERISTIC. THE ENGINES HAVE SUDDEN RPM INCREASES THAT ARE SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO PROPEL THE VEHICLES FORWARD. THIS USUALLY OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN THE DRIVE POSITION , AT A RED LIGHT FOR INSTANCE. IT ALSO SWITCHES BANDS (FM1 TO FM2, ETC.) OF ITS OWN VOLITION. SOMETIMES IT REFUSES TO TURN ON AT ALL. JUDGING FROM THE OTHER COMPLAINTS SCATTERED AROUND VARIOUS FORUM SITES ON THE INTERNET, THIS PROBLEM SEEMS PARTICULARLY PREVALENT IN THE "ACCESS CAB," WHICH IS THE MODEL I RECENTLY PURCHASED. THIS BIZARRE BEHAVIOR HAS BEEN HAPPENING FROM THE DAY I DROVE THE CAR OFF THE DEALERS LOT: THE RADIO--WHICH I THOUGHT WAS OFF-- SUDDENLY BEGAN BLARING AT HIGH VOLUME. AFTER ABOUT ONE SECOND, IT. The chassis of my truck is rusting through. I took it to the dealership and was told that the recall for the vehicle chassis expired in 2019. I told them I was not aware of the recall. They then told me the recall was extended until 2021. I told them I brought the vehicle in for a recall repair in 2020 and asked that they check for all recalled repairs. They said they couldn't help me and directed me to the manufacturer. I called Toyota and they claimed that I was ineligible for a recall. Every repair shop I've gone to told me that this is a very common defect with Toyota and everyone gets it resolved through recall. Please assist me.

CRUISE CONTROL BECAME FINICKY SPRING/SUMMER 2019. I FOUND ARTICLES STATING THAT IT COULD BE THE CLOCKSPRING/SPIRAL CABLE. I REPLACED THE CLOCKSPRING AND THAT FIXED THE CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE, BUT IT CAUSED MY AIRBAG LIGHT TO TURN ON. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. OVER THAT TIME, THE RADIO CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL HAVE QUIT WORKING (FIRST THE VOLUME, THEN THE CHANNEL, AND THE MODE BUTTONS). THESE HAVEN'T BEEN WORKING FOR AT LEAST 3 MONTHS NOW. JUST YESTERDAY, THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OUT COMPLETELY. NO WARNING SIGNS OR ACTING UP. IT JUST QUIT. LACK OF ALIGNMENT DURING TOYOTA SAFETY RECALL E02 / NHTSA RECALL ID 14V 604 I AM CONCERNED WITH THE LACK OF VEHICLE ALIGNMENT AS AN INCLUDED PART OF E02 POST REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR SPRING PACKS. WHEN THE REAR SPRINGS ARE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE, THE REAR AXLE OFTEN SHIFTS SUCH THAT IS IT NO LONGER IN THE SAME POSITION AS IT WAS PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED. THUS THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER PROPERLY ALIGNED, AS FRONT TOE IS SET BASED ON THE THRUST ANGLE OF THE REAR AXLE. THE THRUST ANGLE IS DERIVATIVE OF THE ALIGNMENT OF THE AXLE RELATIVE TO THE LONGITUDINAL AXIS OF THE VEHICLE, AND CREATES A MOMENT ABOUT THE YAW AXIS OF THE VEHICLE. RE-ALIGNMENT OF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE PROVIDES CORRECTIVE MEASURE BY SETTING FRONT WHEEL TOE TO ACCOUNT FOR THE POSITION OF THE REAR AXLE, THUS ENSURING THE VEHICLE TRACKS CORRECTLY AND IS STABLE DURING DYNAMIC MANEUVERS. WHEN THE TACOMA FIRST ENTERED THE SERVICING DEALER IT WAS CONFIRMED TO BE CORRECTLY ALIGNED. HOWEVER, THE PRE-ALIGNMENT NUMBERS ON THE HUNTER EXPRESSALIGN SHEET SHOW THAT THE REAR AXLE POSITION AFTER PERFORMING E02 HAS SHIFTED -0.15 [ISO] ABOUT ITS VERTICAL AXIS RELATIVE TO THE POSITION PRIOR TO REAR SPRING REPLACEMENT. FAILURE TO HAVE THE TACOMA REALIGNED WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE NEED TO COUNTER-STEER THE VEHICLE TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT TRAJECTORY DURING NORMAL OPERATION. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT THE CUSTOMER SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO BEAR THE BURDEN OF COST FOR THE ALIGNMENT, WHEN IT IS NECESSITATED BY THE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS PRESCRIBED BY TOYOTA DURING E02. THE VEHICLE THEN RESUMED NORMAL IDLING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,500. MY CONCERN INVOLVES THE VACUUM BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB. THE BRAKES ARE VERY INCONSISTENT AND AT TIMES THE RPM'S INCREASE WHILE BRAKING. SOMETIMES THEY ARE VERY 'STICKY' AND MORE OFTEN IT TAKES CONSIDERABLE FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP. I'VE INFORMED KERRY TOYOTA OF FLORENCE, KY OF MY CONCERNS MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO RESOLUTION. THIS IS AN ON-GOING PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT GOTTEN BETTER WITH TIME. ALSO, I'VE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES REGARDING HESITATION WHEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR. IT WAS TAKEN IN TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG.

PURCHASED NEW TOYOTA TACOMA TRD SPORT IN AUG 2009 WITH ZERO MILES. ALL SEEMED OK, OTHER THAN A FEW FRUSTRATING CAB RATTLES HERE AND THERE. HOWEVER, I ALSO NOTICED THAT AS MY TRUCK NEARED MORE MILES (7,000 CURRENT), I NOW HAVE TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL A BIT HARDER, YET WHEN I BROUGHT THIS UP TO THE DEALER, THEY STATED ALL WAS NORMAL AND COULD NOT REPLICATE. I'VE HAD A COUPLE OF INSTANCES WHERE I'VE HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PRETTY HARD TO COME TO A STOP OR SLOW DOWN. IT SEEMS I NEED TO RIDE IT A LITTLE HARDER THAN WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MY TRUCK. I ALSO WANT TO ADD, THAT BESIDES THE IRRITATING RATTLES (DOOR PANELS/TRAY HOLDER IN CENTER CONSOLE BELOW THE STEERING WHEEL - WHICH WAS REPLACED, BUT STILL MAKE POP SOUNDS HERE AND THERE, THE OTHER SMALLER RATTLES - SOME OF WHICH WERE COMING FROM ILL-FIT WINDOW SEALS WERE NOT REALLY FIXED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SEALS AND THE POPPING SOUNDS STOPPED FOR A DAY OR SO THEN RETURNED. I FOUND THE PROBLEM IS THE SEALS TEND TO BE SOMEWHAT IMPROPER FIT. IN OTHER WORDS, THEY ARE TOO LARGE AND CAUSE THE RUBBING. I PERSONALLY CORRECTED THIS BY REMOVING ALL DOOR PANELS ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT SOME OF THE RATTLE SOUNDS I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT MERELY HAD A SMALL PIECE OF FELT ON THE BACKSIDE, WHICH DID NOT COMPLETELY CURE THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED AN ENTIRE ROLL OF THIS MATERIAL MYSELF AND COATED THE INSIDE OF EACH DOOR PANEL THEN ADDED A SMALL PIECE OF WEATHER STRIPPING TO THE INSIDE OF DOOR PANEL EDGE WHERE IT TOUCHES THE GLASS WINDOW. THIS HELPED CONSIDERABLY IN REDUCING AIR NOISE AND NO MORE RATTLING. MY COMPLAINT IS STILL WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL SOMETIMES, NOT ALWAYS, NEEDING TO BE PUSHED HARDER THAN NORMAL TO COME TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN. ON OTHER THING I ADDRESSED WITH THE DEALER WAS THE FACT THAT WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND MAKE TURN, NOT COMPLETE STOP AND GO, MY ENGINE RPM'S DON'T DECELERATE QUICKLY ENOUGH FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO CATCH UP. DEALER STATES THIS IS NORMAL OPERATING RPMS CATCHING DOWN TO SHIFT DOWN OF TRANNY. *TR

THE DEALER COULD NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE WITH THE SEAT.THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A PERSONAL SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT CAUSES NECK AND BACK PAIN. FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 28,000.

THE RADIO ACTS ERRATICALLY AND UNPREDICTABLY. IT CHANGES STATIONS, TURNS ITSELF OFF AND ON, ETC. SOMETIMES THE CONTROLS, SUCH AS THE VOLUME, ARE NON-RESPONSIVE, SO THE RADIO CANNOT BE TURNED DOWN OR OFF WHEN NEEDED. SINCE FIDDLING WITH THE RADIO USUALLY MAKES IT EVENTUALLY START WORKING AGAIN, IT IS A DISTRACTION HAZARD. I HAVE DRIFTED OVER THE YELLOW LINE TRYING TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN. THE DEALER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE DEFECT BUT REFUSED TO REPAIR IT. IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM BUT TOYOTA WILL NOT PROVIDE REPLACEMENT PARTS. I BELIEVE FEW PEOPLE REPORT IT BECAUSE THE RADIO IS NOT SEEN AS A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT IT IS A SERIOUS DISTRACTION. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR TWO YEARS. ALSO, ONE OF THE LEAF SPRINGS HAD BROKEN IN HALF.

I NOTICE THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN BEFORE THE BRAKE FEELS THAT IS APPLIED. I'VE TAKEN BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND NOTHING IN ERROR. I DISAGREE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 95 MPH WITHOUT INTENTION. HE HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL TO DECELERATE. HE THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. A TECHNICIAN SPECULATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS EITHER A COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM RESET OR A FLOOR MAT INTERFERENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER. MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASE A TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB 4X4 2009, ON FRIDAY MAY 22, 2009, AND WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIO. WHEN WE ARE SLOWING DOWN TO TURN ON A CURVE AND WHEN WE DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS INTO WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE 1ST GEAR. THE ENGINE WILL RACE UP TO A HIGHER RMP AS THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWS DOWN. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS POSSESS A POSSIBILITY OF AN ACCIDENT AS OUR VEHICLE NOW SLOWS DOWN QUICKLY AS WE ARE COMING OUT OF THE CURVE, LIGHT INTERSECTION OR ENTERING INTO AN INTERSECTION. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE WE PURCHASED BOTH VEHICLE. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED, BUT CANNOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT.
