My vehicle failed the state of Maine safety inspection due to a broken leaf spring. I had the vehicle further inspected at a Toyota dealership and they reported the same issue. They gave me an estimate to replace the rear springs for a total cost to me of $2321.00. This an expense that I do not believe should have to bare, as this vehicle is only used for personal use. The heaviest load this vehicle has carried is a few bags of fertilizer.

REAR LEAF SPRINGS ARE VERY WEAK AND ARE NOT AS SUPPORTIVE AS THEY SHOULD BE. AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTO THE SPRING IS PRETTY MUCH STRAIGHT AND IT SHOULD HAVE SOME CURVE AS THERE IS NO LOAD ON THE VEHICLE.

THE FAILURE WAS DISCOVERED BY TOYOTA OF SCRANTON (3400 N MAIN AVE, SCRANTON, PA 18508) WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,304.

1.) Headlights are yellowing. 2.) Hard to see at night. 3.) Everyone has the same problem. The government should mandate going back to glass headlights for safety reasons. Buffing them only lasts a short period of time and the elderly can't afford to buy new OEM headlights every 6 years as they are very, very expensive. This is a safety issue, as yellow lenses equal more nighttime accidents, fact. This should have been addressed years ago.

The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the driver's and passenger's side headlights were inoperable. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that the headlight assemblies were extremely hot and had melted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver's and passenger's side headlight assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.

The contact stated that while attempting to have an inspection completed on the vehicle, the contact was informed by the mechanic that the inspection could not be completed due to several holes in the underbody frame of the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while working underneath the vehicle, he noticed a hole in the frame rail, passenger's side, rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was inspected under a Service Bulletin however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, the manufacturer confirmed that the vehicle was no longer under Warranty for the repair and a case was opened. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Upon purchase of the vehicle, the contact received a Carfax report from the independent dealer that the vehicle had been placed under a service campaign for frame corrosion. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where he was denied the service campaign because his vehicle was in a non-cold climate state. The manufacturer was also notified, and also denied his claim. The contact stated that he had discovered corrosion on the sub frame of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

UPON INSPECTION TO TROUBLESHOOT A MINOR POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK, I NOTICED THAT THE PINION INPUT SHAFT HOUSING (RIGHT SIDE OF POWER STEERING RACK) HAD EXCESSIVE RUST BEYOND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE REST OF THE RACK DID NOT EXHIBIT THE SAME DEGREE OF CORROSION, SUGGESTING A MANUFACTURING OR ASSEMBLY DEFECT. THE CONDITION WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND BY TOYOTA TECHNICIANS. THE CERTIFIED MECHANIC STATES THAT THE CONDITION IS BEYOND NORMAL WEAR BUT THE TOYOTA TECHNICIAN DENIES THAT ANYTHING BUT A BOLT IS CORRODED.

I WAS DRIVING AND AT ANY SPEED THE STEERING WOULD LOCK UP WHILE TURNING. THE LOWER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT HAS DETERIORATED TO FAILURE. I'M GLAD THAT I DIDN'T HAVE AN ACCIDENT BUT CAME CLOSE. WHEN SEARCHING THE INTERNET TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM I FOUND THAT IT WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR ANYONE LIVING IN A AREA (NOT JUST IN THE USA) THAT IS A SNOW AREA WHERE SALT IS USED. TOYOTA CONSIDERS THIS A WEAR ITEM. THIS SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A WEAR ITEM WHEN FAILURE CAN HAPPEN AT ANY GIVEN SECOND WHEN DRIVING AND NOT ALLOWING THE VEHICLES DRIVER TO BE IN CONTROL

THE POWER STEERING RACK HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BOTH A LOCAL MECHANIC AND MY DEALER, NEWARK TOYOTA, ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE. TOYOTA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE PART; HOWEVER, THE PART IS BACKORDERED BY TOYOTA THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY FOR 450 PARTS. THE TECHNICIAN AT NEWARK TOYOTA TOLD ME IT COULD TAKE MONTHS TO GET THE PART BECAUSE TOYOTA CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND. MY OTHER OPTION IS TO HAVE TOYOTA INSTALL AN AFTER MARKET "RETREAD" . I AM FRUSTRATED AND FEEL THAT TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE OF ITS POWER STEERING RACK.

THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS CAUSED MY STEERING TO ALL OF A SUDDEN GO STIFF, I AM AT 97,000 MILES AND NOW IT HAS TO BE REPLACED. WHEN DRIVING IN MOTION ON A CURVE IT WAS LIKE I LOST POWER STEERING COMPLETELY AND WENT INTO MANUAL WORSE WHEN HAVING TO SLOW OR STOP AND START AGAIN ON A CORNER. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND NOT OK WHEN THERE IS ON COMING TRAFFIC ETC.

Blower Fan had been cutting off. Only running intermittent on High. Took to Toyota dealer June 2025. Was told it was a Cabin Air Filter Clogged. Paid for replacement and clean out of system. Continued to not work. Called a mechanic and asked for a diagnostic. Was told it was a “known issue” with Toyota Tacomas. Had been a recall in later years. I ordered the blower motor resistor and wiring harness from Toyota parts department. It was on back order due to the issue being widespread. July 2025 parts came in. Returned truck to the shop. The techichian replaced the motor blower resistor and the new wiring harness. However, he cut the burnt wires off and spliced the new wires into old wires back to the motor. Aug 2025 motor has stopped working again. Back to the Toyota shop. The truck needs a new blower motor. The labor will be 1200. Plus the labor I’ve already paid for three other shop visits plus parts. The motor blower is on back order till mid September. The motor has been let unplugged due to “risk of fire”. But I’ve been given the vehicle again to drive. It has had a risk of fire since June. The wires have been overheating and smelling. This should have been a recall in 2011. Just as it was in the later Toyota Tacoma. Pleas investigate

THE CONTACT CHECKED BEHIND THE FIREWALL AND THE WIRING HARNESS AND WIRING WERE BURNED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS WERE MELTING ALONG WITH THE FIXTURES AND WIRES IN THE BACK OF THE BULB. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT'S DIAGNOSIS WAS CONFIRMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

Vehicle was brought to dealer to replace ROTTED transmission cooler lines. During inspection it was noticed that the vehicles rack & pinion steering tube is almost completely ROTTED through as well, this is a complicated and expensive repair, which if it completely fails will render the vehicle unsafe for the road, a danger to myself and others on the road. The vehicle has only 127,000 miles. I was also informed that the vehicle no longer qualifies for frame replacement under recall ' because I waited too long '

REASON: EXCESSIVE VIBRATION AND WEAR CAUSING LOOSE AND WORN OUT U-JOINTS ACCORDING TO TOYOTA SHOP IN PALESTINE, TX. THE COST IS APPROX. $560. AGAIN LATER THE SAME DAY I EXPERIENCED MORE SEVERE CLUTCH SLIPPAGE IN 3RD AND 4TH GEAR WHILE TRYING TO MERGE ONTO I-95 AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A WASTE TRUCK DUE TO LACK OF ACCELERATION (SLIPPAGE). 20 MILES LATER I EXPERIENCED PRONOUNCED CLUTCH SLIPPAGE AT 50-55 MPH IN 5TH GEAR DURING ACCELERATION. NEXT DAY, 12/17 I EXPERIENCED CLUTCH SLIPPAGE IN 4TH AND 5TH GEAR 20 MILES INTO MY TRIP TO WORK ON I-95. WEDNESDAY 12/18 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO CHAMPION TOYOTA IN PHILADELPHIA PA, EXPLAINED THE SYMPTOMS AND THE SCENARIO IN WHICH IT OCCURRED WHICH IS AFTER TRUCK IS RUN FOR 20 MILES AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TOYOTA TECH ALLEGEDLY DROVE THE TRUCK ALONE AROUND A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD FOR 5 MILES AND ABOUT 3 MILES WITH MYSELF ON BOARD AND DRIVING. NO SLIPPAGE WAS FOUND ACCORDING TO TOYOTA TECH. INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. WHEN COMING TO A STOP, A HARSH BUMP/LUNGE IS FELT IN THE TRANSMISSION. AT TIMES TO THE POINT WHERE I FEEL AS THOUGH, I HAVE BEEN BUMPED FROM A VEHICLE FROM BEHIND. IF THE BRAKE IS NOT FIRMLY PRESSED, THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE FORWARD. HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS NORMAL AND OK. HAVE BEEN TOLD A TSB EXISTS FOR THE PROBLEM. HORN STOPPED WORKING AT APPROXIMATELY 48,000 MILES. AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING THE PROBLEM, I DISCOVERED THAT THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE SPIRAL CABLE. ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER THE HORN STOPPED WORKING, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLLED PHONE FUNCTION BEGAN AUTO-ACTIVATING INTERMITTENTLY WITH THE WORDS "TALKING" APPEARING ON THE RADIO DISPLAY (THIS FUNCTION IS ALSO RELATED TO THE SPIRAL CABLE). I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY SOON BECOME INOPERABLE IF THE AIR BAG ELECTRICAL CONTACTS ON THE SPIRAL CABLE FAIL. WHILE MY VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, I UNDERSTAND THAT TOYOTA DID FILE A PART 573 DEFECT INFORMATION REPORT WITH NHTSA FOR SELECTED 2009-2010 TACOMA VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE HORN IS CONSIDERED A SAFETY DEVICE, AND AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE, MY VEHICLE HORN BECAME INOPERABLE. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE AIR BAG WILL NOT FUNCTION AS DESIGNED WHEN THE SPIRAL CABLE CONTACTS FOR THE AIR BAG FAIL. I WOULD EXPECT THAT THIS TYPE OF SAFETY CRITICAL DEVICE BE DESIGNED TO LAST FOR THE USEFUL SERVICE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. FAILURE AFTER LESS THAN 6 YEARS (AND 48,000 MILES) IS MUCH SOONER THAN SHOULD BE EXPECTED FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF NHTSA WOULD CONSIDER THIS INFORMATION ALONG WITH OTHER RELATED INFORMATION IN YOUR POSSESSION TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS A BASIS FOR FOLLOW-UP WITH TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION TO PROVIDE A REMEDY FOR VEHICLE OWNERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED PREMATURE SPIRAL CABLE FAILURE THAT AFFECTS MULTIPLE VEHICLE SAFETY DEVICES. *TR

The horn on my truck no longer works. Cruise control is intermittent at times. Vehicle was taken to my independent repair shop I've been told it is the clock spring in my steering wheel. My concern is the air bag would quit working. Been told same vehicle from 2012 and newer was fixed by Toyota for same problem.

WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON IN COLD TEMPERATURES THE RADIO TURNS OFF AND SHOWS A ERROR MESSAGE EVERY NOW AND THEN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE DOES IT, IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO FOR THE SAME REASON, THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED THEN BUT IT IS DOING IT AGAIN.

TOYOTA HAS A RECALL ON 2005 TO 2011 TACOMA'S FOR REAR LEAF SPRINGS RUSTING OUT AND BREAKING. WHEN I CHECKED WITH THEM THEY SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. HOW CAN THAT BE. I HAVE A 2011 TACOMA AND MY REAR LEAF SPRINGS ARE RUSTED AND NOW HAVE BROKEN. ONLY 51000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. WHAT DOES MY VIN NUMBER HAVE TO DO WITH WHAT THE ACTUAL PROBLEM IS. THEY HAVE STATED THAT THESE VEHICLES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH RUST AND BREAKAGE OF REAR LEAF SPRINGS THAT COULD CAUSE THE BROKEN PIECE OF SPRING HITTING THE GAS TANK. I FEEL BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS IN THE DATE SPECIFIED IT SHOULD BE COVERED. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME HERE.

ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO I NOTICED MY BRAKE PEDAL FELT SPONGY. CHECKED FLUID LEVEL, PADS AND SHOES, OK. NO SIGN OF A FLUID LEAK. 1 WEEK LATER I WAS DOING 65MPH AND HAD TO COME TO AN EMERGENCY STOP. I LIMPED HOME, CHANGED MY SHORTS AND LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ON SEVERAL TACOMA FORUMS ON THE WEB. IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND NOBODY HAS AN ANSWER, PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED EVERY COMPONENT INCLUDING THE FLUID WITH NO LUCK. I HOOKED UP MY OBD2 READER THAT HAS ABS FUNCTIONALITY AND IT SHOWED NO FAULT CODES. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND EVERYBODY IS JUST GUESSING WHAT CAUSES THE FAILURE. 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES CAUSED A LOSS OF FLUID AND LOSS OF BRAKES . THIS HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT . I BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY AN OPENING IN THE FRONT WHEEL WELL LINERS, EXPOSING THE PIGTAIL TUBING TO THE ELEMENTS . THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 65,000 ON IT AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THE BRAKE LINES FAIL THIS SOON . THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS REFUSED TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE .

I WAS PARKED AT A TRAILHEAD, AT ABOUT 3500' ELEVATION. AFTER THE HIKE, AS I MANEUVERED THE TRUCK AROUND THE PARKING LOT, I REALIZED THAT I HAD LITTLE OR NO BRAKING ABILITY!! I SLOWLY DROVE AROUND TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY FLUID ON THE GROUND WHERE THE TRUCK HAD BEEN, AND THERE WAS NO FLUID ON THE GROUND. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ON THE DASHBOARD, AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING INDICATED ANY TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, I DISCOVERED, AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME, THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK WITH THEM. THE TRUCK HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EXAMINATION AND REPAIR. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. THE REPLACEMENT MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER ALSO FAILED!! (DURING TESTING, NOT WHILE DRIVING.) THE THIRD MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER WAS PUT IN, AND SEEMS TO BE FINE NOW. DESPITE DETAILED CORRESPONDENCE TO THEM, TOYOTA CORPORATE FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, AND REFUSED TO DISCUSS COMPENSATION. THEY ALSO DID NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT OUR CORRESPONDENCE. FORTUNATELY, THE DEALERSHIP TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF US.

I STARTED MY TACOMA IN PARK, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE I PUT IT INTO REVERSE, THE ENGINE AND THEN STARTED TO ACCELERATE VERY FAST, SPINNING THE TIRES, IT WAS ON ASPHALT WITH SOME SAND. I PRESSED DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE TO KEEP IT IN PLACE AND SHIFTED BACK TO PARK, AT WHICH POINT THE ENGINE RPMS WENT BACK TO IDLE. WHEN I RETURNED TO REVERSE EVERYTHING WAS BEHAVING NORMALLY. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN IN MY HEATED GARAGE FOR A WEEK, I DROVE IT 3-4 MILES IN DRY SUNNY COLD WEATHER(32), SHUT IF OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. I AM WRITING ABOUT A SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM I HAD WITH MY 2011 4X4 TACOMA. ON JANUARY 6TH, I WAS RETURNING FROM AN APPOINTMENT. I LEFT THE PARKING LOT GOING ABOUT 10-20MPH, I DROVE 1/10TH OF A MILE DOWN THE ACCESS ROAD WHEN I WENT TO BRAKE AT THE INTERSECTION. AS SOON AS I TOUCHED THE BRAKE THE ENGINE DRAMATICALLY INCREASED ITS SPEED AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED FULL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL HIGHLY REV'D AND I COULD FEEL THE TRUCK TRYING TO ACCELERATE. AS SOON AS I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL THE ENGINE REVS WENT BACK TO NORMAL IDLE SPEED AND THE TRUCK STOPPED TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD. TAKATA RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE HORN STOPPED WORKING SO I TOOK THE CAR INTO A TOYOTA CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THEY SAID THIS WAS CAUSED BY SPIRAL CABLE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THEM WITH THE TOYOTA TACOMA, BUT NOT COVERED BY A RECALL YET. GIVEN THAT THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT - AND RESULTS IN A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING AIR BAG FAILURE, THE AIR BAGS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED WITHOUT COST TO THE OWNERS. THE EMPLOYEE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A VERY COMMON ISSUE, AND THAT TOYOTA WILL FIX IT FOR FREE. I WAS TOLD THAT A LETTER WAS MAILED OUT TO EVERY PERSON THAT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A TIME LIMIT TO GET IT DONE AND IT ALREADY ALREADY PASSED. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT I NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA. IN ADDITION, MY TRUCK HAS ALWAYS HAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. The underside of my 2011 Toyota Tacoma is experiencing tremendous rust. Dealer said since there was not perforation, nothing to be done. Brackets holding wiring, body panels and now gas tank have rusted and failed. The gas tank strap is a major concern. It is available for inspection. The gas tank is held up now by one unrusted strap and rubber bungee cords I applied. Dealer or independence service center has not seen it. Nearest dealer is a ferry ride away, I live on an island. No inspection by manufacturer etc. No warning lights or messages.

I am the third owner of a 2011 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab 2.7L. I purchased it in Oct. 2024 in NY. At that time, there were no visible signs of frame rust. Within 6 months, it developed severe corrosion, including deterioration at the suspension mounts. The vehicle is no longer safe to drive and is available for inspection. Toyota previously recalled earlier Tacomas for the same issue, but for 2011–2017 models, they issued a Limited Service Campaign (K0D) and Customer Support Program (ZKA), which expired after only 12 years (vs. 15 years previously). This was not classified as a recall, despite serious safety concerns. The prior owner appears to have driven zero miles from 2020–2022, when the campaign was active. The vehicle was registered in Vermont, where statewide COVID restrictions closed dealerships and suspended non-essential services. No extension or accommodations were provided by Toyota. I discovered the corrosion on [XXX], during a frame inspection immediately after investing $4,800 in bodywork. The mechanic noted the corrosion was extensive and abnormal for a 2011 model—more consistent with a truck from the 1980s. Toyota’s decision to time this campaign at the height of COVID and shorten the eligibility window appears negligent and possibly strategic. Now in 2025, many owners are finding catastrophic frame rot after Toyota's limited program has ended. I urge NHTSA to investigate this as a true safety defect, not a service courtesy. The locking mechanism, the vechile was park we put the child in to turn it rear facing and it wouldn’t lock into place, so we turned it forward facing and it still wouldn’t lock into place. The child’s seat will not lock into position. Then we noticed where the lock off is the plastic is bent upward from the seat belt itself. The chest clip is also Magnetic and had to be replaced all ready by manufacturer due to it not latching. This will not let me upload the video

FROM THE RESULTS OF THIS MACHINE, THE SERVICE MANAGER AND MECHANIC BOTH STATED MY TRUCK'S FRAME WAS DAMAGED (SO WHY BOTHER WITH ALIGNMENT?). THIS WAS SUBSEQUENTLY CHECKED BY A BODY REPAIR SHOP WITH PROPER EQUIPMENT TO BE FOUND TO BE WITHIN ONE DIME'S THICKNESS DIFFERENT FROM RAIL TO RAIL, I.E. NO DAMAGE WHATSOEVER. TOYOTA WANTS ME TO RETURN TO THIS FAULTY DEALERSHIP EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE TWO OTHERS W/ IN 60 MILES FROM MERCED CA. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE, REFUSES TO PAY FOR VERIFYING THE DEALERSHIP'S ISSUES. I SUSPECT THE SPRING SET USED IN THIS RECALL DOES NOT MATCH MY VERSION OF TRUCK, A TRD SPORT ACCESS CAB WHICH IS 300 LBS MORE CAPABLE IN SPRINGING IF THE CHARTS ARE CORRECT. ALL COMBINED, THE PROBLEMS ARE NOT SOLVED AND THE RIDE HAS BECOME DANGEROUS, ONE I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT, ONE THAT FOLLOWS THE RUTS IN THE ROAD AND IS MUCH MUCH MORE DANGEROUSLY SENSITIVE TO SIDE WIND GUSTS ON THE FREEWAYS + LESS LOAD CAPACITY.

MY TRUCK RECENTLY STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS TURNING ON. I NOTICED IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS HALF-FULL OR JUST BELOW HALF. THE TRUCK FINALLY STARTS AFTER 4 OR 5 ATTEMPTS AND RUNS FINE FOR THE MOST PART. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING IT KICKS A LITTLE, LIKE IT LOSES A LITTLE BIT OF POWER BUT QUICKLY REGAINS IT. WHEN THE TANK IS FULL IT STARTS WITH NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE THAT IT IS MORE THAN LIKELY FUEL RELATED, SPECIFICALLY THE FUEL PUMP. THE TRUCK IS JUST A LITTLE OVER 40K MILES AND ACCORDING TO TOYOTA, THE FUEL PUMP, IF THAT IS THE CASE, SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 100K BEFORE MALFUNCTIONING. I FEEL THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM TO START HAVING WITH A TRUCK THAT IS STILL FAIRLY NEW, AND IT IS NOT CHEAP TO REPLACE. I AM ASKING TO PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AS A POSSIBLE MANUFACTURER DEFECT. 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND SECURITY SYSTEM IN VEHICLE. . *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ONE DAY AS SHE WAS LEAVING WORK, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THE KEY AND SHE WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AT JUMP STARTING IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE WITH THE SECURITY SYSTEM, WHICH HAD BEEN INSTALLED AND HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED COMPLETELY. SHE ALSO STATED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY, PARTICULARLY WHEN SHIFTING UP HILLS, IT REQUIRED HER TO FORCEFUL APPLY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO GO APPROPRIATELY. AGAIN, SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THE COMPUTER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE GETTING WORSE, WHEN IN EARLY DECEMBER THE CONSUMER WAS IN ROUTE OVER A DOUBLE LANE ROAD OVER A MOUNTAIN, WHEN THE TRUCK SUDDENLY FELT AS THOUGH IT HAD SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR, THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN AND THERE WAS A GRINDING SENSATION FROM THE GAS PEDAL. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THEN DRIVE AND PROCEEDED AGAIN. A SIMILAR EVENT OCCURRED AS SHE MADE HER WAY BACK OVER THE MOUNTAIN AT THE END OF THE DAY. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AGAIN AND IT DID NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT IT ALSO MADE A VERY FAST CLICKING SOUND. THE CONSUMER WENT BACK TO THE DEALER, ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE MECHANIC DECIDED TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND NOTED THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE SLUGGISH IN THE AUTOMATIC DRIVE POSITION, BUT SEEMED TO FUNCTION MORE RESPONSIVELY IN THE 4TH POSITION.

THE LOCATION OF THE CENTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ON THE 2011 (AND MAYBE PREVIOUS MODELS) OF TOYOTA TACOMA COMES IN THE WAY OF THE FRONT VIEW. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE LOW HANGING REAR VIEW MIRROR COMPLETELY BLOCKS THE VIEW AND IT IS REALLY HARD TO SEE THE PEDESTRIANS CROSSING THE STREET, CAUSING A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. THE LOW REAR VIEW MIRROR ALSO BECOMES PROBLEMATIC, IF THE ROAD GOES DOWN AND THEN UP ON A RIGHT TURN CURVE, AS IT BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE THE ROAD AHEAD DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE MIRROR. FOR ANYONE WHO IS TALLER THAN 5'10", THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE, AS DISCUSSED ON SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE RIGHT REAR OF THEM. THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELTS FAILED TO RESTRAIN. THE FRONT PASSENGER STRUCK THEIR HEAD ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE REAR PASSENGER STRUCK THEIR HEAD ON THE FRONT PASSENGERS SEAT. THEY WERE BOTH INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.
