The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the unoccupied vehicle was parked on a slightly inclined driveway. The contact later noticed that the vehicle had rolled across the street into the neighbor's yard, causing the rear end of the vehicle to crash into a pine tree. There were no injuries sustained. The tree branches were damaged. The contact stated that both taillights were damaged, the tailgate was pushed into the bed tonneau cover, there was a significant dent on the bumper, and the vehicle sustained other unknown damages. The contact was able to drive the vehicle from the scene. The contact stated that after the incident, the contact noticed that the vehicle could shift into gear while the brake pedal was not depressed, and the gear shifter could be moved out of park(P) while the vehicle was turned off. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 275,000.

WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP THERE IS A HESITATION OR STALL. THIS HAPPENED WITH OUR 2010 TACOMA, ALSO. WE TRADED FOR A 2013 AND THIS TRUCK DOES THE SAME THING. my lower [ntermediate steering shaft has to be replaced repair is pending the u joint was so rusted steering was very difficult i noticed that the vehicle steering wheel would not return to normal straight it was a gradual process at least 3 months of minor to very hard steering while having some routine work done it was pointed out to me that it might need to be replaced vehicle is a 2013 tacoma 2wd base

This issue has been ongoing. Taken into local Toyota dealer and was told they needed to replace entire rack and pinion at a cost of nearly $1500. Three days after picking up it is doing same thing. While steering around corner it will temporarily lock and suddenly it feels like it has no power steering. I am getting nothing but the run around from Wooster Toyota. THE STEERING IN THE TRUCK HAS TIGHT SPOTS. AS THE STEERING WHEEL IS ROTATED THERE ARE PLACES WHERE IT SEEMS TO BIND AND GET STIFF THEN SUDDENLY LOOSEN AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND THEY SHOWED ME THE UNIVERSAL JOINT IN THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. THE JOINT IS BADLY CORRODED AND BINDS IN CERTAIN POSITIONS. LUBRICATING IT HAS HELPED A SMALL AMOUNT TEMPORARILY. THE STEERING FEELS STRANGE AT ALL SPEEDS AND WHEN STATIONARY.

DRIVING ON ANY ROAD THE REAR SUSPENSION CREEKS BAD. WHETHER YOUR ARE COMING TO A STOP OR ACCELERATING, TURNING IN EITHER DIRECTION, OR TRAVELING DOWN A PAVED HIGHWAY WITH EXPANSION JOINTS. YOU HEAR A LARGE CREEK OF METAL COMING FROM THE BACK END OF THE TRUCK. THIS IS A DAILY DRIVER ON HIGHWAYS AND TOWN ROADS. THE TRUCK IS CARRYING NO LOAD IN THE BOX AND YOU HEAR THE CREEKS AND IT GETS WORSE WHEN IT IS LIGHTLY LOADED. IT STARTED IN LATE FEBURARY OF 2019 AND THE TRUCK HAS 81000 MILES ON IT.

THIS FAILURE IS COMMON ON SEVERAL AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS ON THE WEB. IT HAS BEEN THAT WAY AS FAR BACK AS 2008. THIS IS LONG STANDING SAFETY PROBLEM IN TOYOTA VEHICLE. PERHAPS TOYOTA COULD BE ENCOURAGED TO DEAL WITH IT.

I'VE HAD 5 DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS FAIL ON MY 4 DOOR TACOMA. BOTH PASSENGER SIDE LOCKS WERE INOPERATIVE AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN THE DOOR LOCKS FAIL, THE ELECTRONIC LOCKS AND KEYLESS ENTRY DO NOT WORK. THE PASSENGER-SIDE DOORS DO NOT HAVE A KEY-HOLE BACKUP, MEANING THAT ITS NOT POSSIBLE TO UNLOCK THOSE DOORS WITHOUT HAVING TO CRAWL THROUGH THE VEHICLE FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IF I NEEDED TO GET A CHILD OUT OF THE BACK-SEAT QUICKLY, THAT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE.

THE HORN CEASED TO WORK IN THE STRAIGHT AHEAD POSITION OF THE STEERING WHEEL. TOYOTA CHARGED ME $530 TO REPLACE THE SPIRAL CABLE. I CONSIDERED IT A SAFETY ISSUE. CONSIDER DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE NEXT TO YOU TRIES TO MOVE INTO YOUR LANE. I WROTE A LETTER OF COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA USA. THEY RESPONDED ONLY THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY.

While backing in camper to my driveway after a 3.5 hr return trip, the back part of the frame which holds the rear bumper and the trailer hitch let go from a rusted frame. See attached pic. I inquired with a Toyota dealer who said my vehicle is out of warranty for the CSP from Toyota for rusting frames. They indicated there was a recall that wasn't repaired on my vehicle but I don't recall seeing a recall for rusting frames. They also said this wasn't a safety recall which I have a hard time understanding. If this happened while on the highway and not in front of my house the entire camper would have completely let go from my vehicle. Any information would be appreciated.

1. Fuel door hinge broke. Checked on Tacoma forums, this is a common problem with 2005-2015 model. 2. Not a safety risk. 3. Toyota does not acknowledge this is as a problem for the 2005-2015 model. 4. Vehicle has been inspected for repair estimate. 5. Prior to hinge breaking, the fuel door was not mating properly.

TAKATA RECALL - ERROR CODE P2437 AND P2438. MY TRUCK HAS 76000 MILES ON IT AND IS NOW IN LIMP MODE. IT WAS VERY SCARY WHEN IT WENT THERE ON THE HIGHWAY. I'VE SEEN ONLINE THIS PROBLEM EXISTING ON OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES AND THEY HAVE RECALLS, BUT NOT THE TACOMA. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT A COMPLAINT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION DUE TO A RECALL ON MY TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK. I RECENTLY CALLED A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (SERVCO WAIPAHU) AND EXPLAINED THAT TWO OUT OF THE 3 INDICATOR LIGHTS NOTED ON MY SAFETY RECALL LETTER CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND DID NOT TURN OFF. KNOWING THAT THIS WAS NOT A GOOD SIGN, I MOVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRIED TO TURN OFF MY CAR. IN DOING SO, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE INDICATOR LIGHTS CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. WHEN I CALLED, THEY WERE WELL AWARE OF MY RECALL ISSUE HOWEVER DID NOT SHOW ANY CONCERN OF THE PROBLEM THAT I JUST STATED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE BOOKED WITH CARS AND WERE UNABLE TO SERVICE MY CAR UNTIL JUNE 23. THAT IS MORE THAN 50 DAYS AWAY. THE NOTE/RECALL LETTER MENTIONS THAT THE FUNCTIONS BEING INOPERATIVE "CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH" AND THAT IF THE LIGHTS DO NOT TURN OFF, I NEEDED TO CALL FOR "IMMEDIATE" DIAGNOSIS AND APPROPRIATE REPAIR. IN ASKING HOW SERIOUS WAS THE ISSUE, THE LADY COULD NOT HELP ME NOR DID SHE TRY TO GET SOMEBODY ON THE PHONE. THEY MENTIONED THAT I COULD BRING IN MY CAR AND LEAVE IT FOR STANDBY. SHE ALSO MENTIONED THAT IT COULD TAKE A WEEK. I WOULD BE WITHOUT A CAR FOR A WEEK. HOW DO THEY EXPECT ME TO GO TO WORK? I AM FRUSTRATED BECAUSE IT IS NOT MY FAULT THAT MY CAR IS ONE OF THE MANY THAT ARE BEING RECALLED, SO THERE SHOULD BE AT LEAST SOMETHING TO HELP THOSE THAT WOULD BE INCONVENIENCED WITHOUT A CAR. IT HAPPENED IN A SUNDAY AFTERNOON. I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK 2013 TOYOTA TACOMA (BRAND NEW LESS THAN A MONTH). I HAD FRIENDS RIDING WITH ME. I KNEW THERE IS A STOP SIGN AND I SAW THE STOP SIGN ABOUT SEVERAL BLOCKS AWAY AND LIFTED MY RIGHT FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while in reverse and attempting to park the engine RPMs suddenly increased while pressing the brake pedal and the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration causing the driver to lose control of the steering. During the incident, the vehicle crashed into two separate vehicles and a restaurant building serving outside diners. The contact was eventually able to switch gears causing the vehicle to drive forward before turning the engine off and stopping. The contact indicated that the brake pedal was being pressed at the time of the failure but the vehicle continued to accelerate. The driver sustained a mild head injury and one diner was also injured. No further information was available. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 75,000.

BRAND NEW VEHICLE. CRUISE CONTROL FAILS TO DISENGAGE WHEN DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL. THIS IS THE ON-GOING STATUS. BRAKE MUST BE PUSHED DOWN ABOUT 2" BEFORE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES. DESPITE REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO GET THE VEHICLE SERVICED, TOYOTA OF OLYMPIA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND SO REFUSES TO FIX IT EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE IN UNDER WARRANTY AND EXTENDED SERVICE AGREEMENT. SEVERAL INSTANCES HAVE OCCURRED AND RESULTED IN UNINTENDED TRAVEL OF A COUPLE HUNDRED FEET TOWARDS AN OBSTACLE BECAUSE THE CRUISE DID NOT DISENGAGE. I'VE DRIVEN SCORES OF VEHICLES OVER THE LAST 40 YEARS AND NONE OF THEM HAD A CRUISE CONTROL THAT NEEDED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO BE PUSHED DOWN SO FAR TO DISENGAGE. I HAVE BEEN RUNNING THE SAME WHEELS AND TIRES ON THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW, RUNNING 17" ALUMINUM WHEELS WITH A 10- PLY RATED 265/70/17 MICHELIN LT WHICH IS A STANDARD SIZE FOR THIS VEHICLE. AT ABOUT 47,000 MILES THE TRACTION CONTROL ON MY TACOMA STARTED ACTING UP BADLY MAKING IT VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON MOUNTAIN ROADS WITH SUPER-ELEVATED TURNS. BASICALLY THE TRUCK THINKS IT IS SLIDING WHEN IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BREAKING LOOSE AT 35 MPH. THE SENSORS OR COMPUTER IS FAILING CAUSING THE RIGHT FRONT OR LEFT FRONT WHEEL TO PULSE (APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE) WHICH RESULTS IN THE VEHICLE PULLING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION I AM STEERING. THIS IS AT LOW SPEED 35 TO 40 MPH. WHEN I CALLED IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SERVICE MANAGER AND SHOP FOREMAN AT NORTHRIDGE TOYOTA, I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE SHOWS NO ERRORS SO THE TRUCK IS "OPERATING AS DESIGNED' AND THEIR SUGGESTION WAS TO DEACTIVATE THE TRACTION CONTROL FROM NOW ON, EACH TIME I DRIVE A MOUNTAIN ROAD. I EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE ASKING ME TO DEACTIVATE THE ON BOARD SAFETY MEASURES ON THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO DRIVE THE TRUCK IN THE HIGHEST RISK DRIVING CONDITIONS, THEY AGAIN SAID THE TRUCK WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND THAT I SHOULD NOT EXPECT THEIR TO BE ANY REPAIRS MADE. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INEXCUSABLE. THEY WENT ON TO SUGGEST I SEEK A SECOND OPINION AT ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY SENT ME DOWN THE ROAD IN MY TRUCK EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM THE SYMPTOMS, DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM WITH SHOP FOREMAN IN THE TRUCK AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THAT THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN: TURNING LEFT 90%, RIGHT 8% AND FORWARD 2% THE MOST FREQUENT IS A LEFT TURN WHERE THE BANK OF THE ROAD IS AT A SIGNIFICANT ANGLE. IT IS TERRIFYING ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD TO HAVE YOUR FRONT END DIVE DOWN AND LOOSE CONTROL. MY NERVES ARE ON EDGE WITH EVERY TURN, WONDERING IF THE TRUCK IS GOING TO DO ITS DIVE. ON DATE OF SERVICE I WAS INFORMED BY ADVISOR [XXX] THAT ALL 24 WHEEL FASTENERS (LUGS) HOLDING ON THE WHEEL STUDS DID NOT HAVE AMPLE THREADS. The frame was “repaired” by the spray foam, not replaced. This foam has been falling off since I purchased the vehicle and there is much rust on the frame. I have gone into Toyota for this to be inspected and they said that the foam that was applied to the frame and was sufficient enough to meet the standards. I don’t find this to be safe especially on vehicle that is 12 years old. There was rust that was clearly repainted in spots.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.

MY HORN STOPPED WORKING AND WHEN I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER HE SAID THAT IT WAS THE CLOCK SPRING CABLE INSIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE SERVICE AGENT DANIEL ARVIZA AT NORTH BAKERSFIELD TOYOTA IN BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIA ADVISED ME THAT IF I DIDN'T GET IT FIXED THAT THE AIRBAG COULD FAIL TO DEPLOY IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A IMPORTANT PART OF THE TRUCK TO FAIL AFTER ONLY 3 YEARS. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. IT'S GOING TO COST ALMOST 500 DOLLARS, BUT BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED.

BRAND NEW VEHICLE EXPERIENCING A HARD THUMPING NOISE THAT FEELS LIKE THE VEHICLE IS BEING HIT FROM BEHIND WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS NOISE IS FELT THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE AND HAS BEEN DUPLICATED TO TOYOTA. THE THUMP IS EXPERIENCED GOING FORWARD AND REVERSE. FIRST EXPLANATION FROM TOYOTA WAS THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT IS BINDING UNDER THE PRESSURE WHERE IT MEETS THE SLIP YOKE AND THEN ABRUPTLY RELEASING THAT PRESSURE. THIS THUMP FEELING CAN BE SUBTLE OR QUITE POWERFUL. ANY ISSUES WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN CAN BE DANGEROUS TO BOTH THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS, AND THE VEHICLES TRAVELING BEHIND SAID VEHICLE. TOYOTA ENGINEERS HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE A CAUSE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER DEALERSHIPS THAT STATE THE TACOMA AND 4RUNNER ARE AFFECTED. THIS IS A VERY COMMONLY REPORTED PHENOMENON, SEE THE WEBSITES LISTED AT THE BOTTOM. REPORTED PHENOMENON HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES WITHIN THE PREVIOUS 5000 MILES. WHEN ENTERING A TURN WITH NO BRAKE APPLIED, MOST COMMONLY A CLOVERLEAF, THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL WILL ENGAGE AND APPLY THE BRAKES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN. NO BRAKE LIGHTS ARE DISPLAYED SO VEHICLES BEHIND ARE NOT AWARE OF THE SUDDEN SLOWING. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS WERE DRY, SUNNY, AND THE VEHICLE SPEED IS WELL WITHIN A SAFE SPEED. THIS IS VERY REPEATABLE IN SPECIFIC LOCATIONS.
