I purchased the vehicle new and noticed right away that the transmisson would clunk right away when I put it into gear[ it's an automatic]. I asked the dealership about it and they said it was normal and no issues. Now I'm [XXX] and have owned many cars so.... Anyway, over the years I've asked several times and they say no issue. Now, just this morning, my wife found an article about the issue and Toyota is finally admitting there IS an issue. What can I do? AT shifter was stiff from purchase. I thought this was normal. Sometimes it shifted OK, most times not. Had independent repair shops lubricate the shifter multiple times to no avail. Then the shifter wouldn't move at all and I was in a traffic lane causing a dangerous situation. Had truck towed to an independent repair shop that found a second way to lubricate the shaft. Curious how many trucks left the factory without AT shaft lubricated.

My 2016 Toyota Tacoma has had multiple oil leaks in the timing cover. The dealer has already fixed this issue twice and the timing cover is currently leaking oil. This leak is expensive to fix because it involves removing the engine and the transmission to properly seal the timing cover. This is a know defect that poses a serious safety concern as the oil leak may go from a small leak to a large leak quickly, causing the engine to fail. Additionally the air pressure from driving can cause the oil to end up everywhere which can lead other components to degrade and fail. Because the fix is so complex, the process to remove and reinstall the engine and transmission may result in other mistakes. During one of the attempts to fix the issue, the dealer forgot to replace an engine bolt and forgot to hook up a vent hose. The cost to fix this issue is so high that it makes it too expensive for many to fix.

After starting the truck and idling for any length of time, I place my foot on the brake and shift into Reverse or Drive. The truck almost leaps if I don't keep my foot on the brake. There is a noticeable pause many times, so it seems to be electronically controlled transmission. I have read that dealerships can Flash the ECU module and it will resolve it, but I do not have any "unresolved recalls" at this time.

Paint is chipping off in several places and have read this is a major problem with tacomas in the white color

I have recently been made aware of the Super White paint recall and know that is not yet in full force or able to be serviced at this time. That being said, it appears that the recall only covers " paint peeling along the exterior door window frames and front inner fenders under the hood on certain Tacoma vehicles with 040 Super White paint color", But there are multiple reports of this entire paint job being defective over multiple generations as well as paint outside of these areas specified. This recall should cover an entire repaint and is extremely frail in quality otherwise.

I purchased this vehicle in May 2016. The vehicel has the "Super White" paint package. In late May 2019 I noticed the paint was starting to peel off the door frame, above the headlights and above the windshield. I contacted the Toyota Dealership where I purchased the vehicle, Desert Toyota of Tucson) and they told me there was a recall on the paint and that I would be receiving a letter from Toyota USA about this. A year went by and I contacted Toyota USA, and was told there was no recall on my vehicle due to paint peeling. I again contacted Toyota USA in 2021 (Incident # 210719-000344) regarding the peeling paint which was getting worse and was again told no recall due to peeling paint. I have spoken with the dealership several times about this and I keep getting told that I will be receiving a letter from Toyota USA, but there is a backlog. I called Toyota USA again this morning 8/13/2024 and was told no recall on my peeling paint, yet my dealer insists there is one. Toyota USA told me to conatct the NHTSA about this, so I have.

On 10/30/2023 Toyota stopped supporting Scout GPS Link. This is the Toyota installed navagation system and the only navagation system that works with the Toyota display/audio system. All other navagation systems are blocked from the Toyota system. Navagation is now reduced to using a Cell Phone display and audio. Well this option works it is much less safe as the display is much lower beneath the driver's normal line of sight. Eyes must be taken off the road for a much longer period and looking at a much smaller display. While not as big a safety risk as other vehicle problems this may provide NHTSA with the opportunity to track the safety impact of vehcile navigation systems vs hand held nagivation systems.

Bought 2016 Tacoma in 2022 w/ 53k miles. Hit 58,850 (ish) and had an noticable oil leak… apparently this was a “Well Known” issue, as the mechanic @ Surprise, AZ Dealership (Toyota of Surprise, 13543 N. Auto Show Ave., Surprise, AZ 85388) told my wife and I…. it’s from this same thing that google showed me also: “Engine oil leaks: Reports on Consumer Reports and other forums detail expensive repairs to fix oil leaks from the front seal or timing cover, which can cost $5,000 or more because the engine often needs to be removed for the repair.” And this was 100% my case- and confirmed by the Toyota Dealers Mechanic verbally. Leaks were without engine light indicators “at all”. The dealership added a dye, told me to drive 100-500 miles and return to have a re-inspection done after their initial one came with no results. Initially I spotted this while I was conducting a regular 3,000 mile oil change. (2nd oil change since owning the truck. So my out of pocket was around $5,700+, for an apparent (see attached) “well-known” Dealer issue. @ 60k, a major repair cost for this should NOT but coming from the consumer, and needs to be listed as a “recall”. Had I not noticed the missing oil, this could have left me stranded, my family stranded, or caused many other traveling issues throughout my driving experiences. I repaired this around two years ago, but have been terrified to drive my truck! I’ve driven about 1,000 miles or less since the repair (in 2 years time). I’m selling first chance I can, BUT, I WANT MY MONEY BACK! I have the receipt in a safe for when this becomes a recall - to prove i paid it, and to get a FULL REFUND!!! That is not how good business is done by Toyota. I owned a 2004 and 2005 Camrys prior, as well as a 2014 Lexus GS 350 F Sport (all in my name), this truck was a dream, now a nightmare. Please, for everyone complaining online and those that have had to also pay for these repairs @ low mileage, MAKE THIS INTO A RECALL FOR 2016 TACOMAs.

I have experienced two major failures on my 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport with less than 90,000 miles: a leaking coolant crossover pipe, which required partial engine disassembly and cost me approximately $2,500, and a leaking timing chain cover, which required a full front-end teardown and cost over $4,500. Both issues are known problems across 2016+ Tacoma models with the 3.5L V6 (2GR-FKS engine), yet Toyota has not issued a recall or warranty enhancement. These failures present safety risks related to overheating and oil loss and result in significant financial burden to owners. Toyota needs to be held accountable for these premature, design-related failures.

Upper Intake manifold flap actuator ( part: Toyota 17190-0P101 ) brakes in the intake resulting in wrong air reading and forcing vehicle into limp mode causing the vehicle to rapidly decrease speed, and creating a potential accident with other vehicles and semi's. this will continue to happen but this will give a person a false sense of security since error codes will reset once vehicle is turned off and on, a reassurance to a person that the issue has resolved itself since this will only happen at high speeds. the part is designed for fuel efficiency, as the flap opens and closes air is controlled properly for emission, but once broken will throw error codes, and force vehicle into limp mode this part is not be repairable, the part needs to be changed completely. this would happen to me while accelerating on highways, up mountain passes and pushing vehicle over 4000 rpm.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I am reporting a persistent and unsafe issue with the factory-installed Entune infotainment system in my 2016 Toyota Tacoma. While driving — whether locally or on the highway — the system frequently freezes, becomes unresponsive, or abruptly resets itself, often multiple times per drive. This directly affects my ability to safely use the navigation, backup camera, and audio controls while in motion. The system’s crashes divert my attention from the road, especially when I’m relying on navigation and it either stops functioning or forces me to interact with the screen to regain control. These interruptions increase the risk of distracted driving and could easily contribute to an accident. I have attempted to install the software update provided on Toyota’s official website, but the update is older than the version already installed on my vehicle (0101A0), so the system blocks the update. There is no way for a consumer to reinstall or flash the current version, and any potential resolution is only available at a dealership for a fee, effectively putting the fix behind a paywall. Toyota has not issued a recall or service bulletin for this issue, despite dozens of reports from other owners on Tacoma and Prius forums describing the same crash behavior and software version conflicts. This is a significant safety concern, especially when the infotainment system is used for navigation during high-speed or complex driving conditions. The inability to maintain consistent functionality puts drivers and others on the road at risk. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this widespread issue and press Toyota to issue a free repair or software patch for all affected vehicles. Symptoms: •Frequent infotainment restarts while driving •Frozen or unresponsive touchscreen •Glitched navigation system and lost GPS routing •Driver distraction due to repeated system failure

IN THE MIDDLE OF FEB 2021 THE DRIVER'S SIDE (FACTORY) SEAT HEATER STOPPED HEATING. THE SEAT HEATER BUTTON STILL OPERATED NORMALLY WITH REGARD TO LIGHTS, ETC. I REMOVED THE SEAT AND DISCOVERED THAT THE CONNECTOR BETWEEN THE SEAT HEATER WIRING HARNESS AND THE SEAT HEATER AMPLIFIER HAD ELECTRICALLY ARCED (RED WIRE) AND MELTED THE CONNECTOR TOGETHER. (NOTE: THE PASSENGER SIDE HEATER IS UNAFFECTED. ALSO NOTE: THE FUSE FOR THIS CIRCUIT DID NOT BURN UP AS IT SHOULD HAVE WHEN THE CURRENT SURGED CAUSING THE MELTED CONNECTOR.) UPON DOING RESEARCH THIS IS APPARENTLY NOT AN UNHEARD OF PROBLEM ON THIS YEAR/MODEL TACOMA. I HAVE UPLOADED PHOTOS. THERE ARE THREE ISSUES HERE: 1) A CLEAR DESIGN FLAW, 2) THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE, AND 3) IT LIKELY AFFECTS THE ENTIRE FLEET OF TACOMAS IN THIS YEAR RANGE. MY BELIEF IS THAT THIS RISES TO THE LEVEL OF A RECALL AND HAVE TALKED TO BOTH THE DEALER AND CORPORATE ABOUT IT. TOYOTA HAS AGREED TO PAY HALF THE COST OF REPAIRS, AND I HAVE AGREED TO THIS, (ALTHOUGH THEY ALSO CLAIM TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE). TOYOTA CASE #: 2103011304

2016 Toyota Tacoma – severe clear coat and paint failure on the hood and roof. The clear coat began peeling in 2022 and has progressively worsened. Large sections of the hood and roof show complete delamination, oxidation, and exposed basecoat. This is a widely reported defect for 2015–2017 Tacomas across multiple paint colors. Toyota Customer Care confirmed today that my VIN is not included in Customer Support Program 23TE08 and that no goodwill repair would be authorized, even though the defect is identical to the vehicles Toyota acknowledges as affected. This appears to be a manufacturing defect that compromises durability and corrosion resistance. Photos and documentation are available upon request.

The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving, there was a musty odor coming from the interior of the vehicle. The contact was unable to locate the source of the odor. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while vacuuming the vehicle, the contact noticed that the carpet and floor mats from the rear passenger’s side were wet. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear quarter duct vents had fractured, and water was entering the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

At approx 75K miles hood latch popped open. Noticed hood was open while driving on highway. Only the 2nd safety latch was holding it closed. Pulled over to close it but it would not fully latch. Noticed latch had a lot of rust. Did not bother taking it to a dealer or repair shop. Bought an aftermarket latch and easily installed myself which solved the issue. Very glad hood did not fully fly open which could have been catastrophic.

Just like with the other double cab Tacoma recalls I am hearing about, the third rear tail light is leaking water into my access cab. The interior smells like mildew. I’m not sure why my truck is not covered by the recall, but it is experiencing the exact same situation. Water leaking through the deteriorated seal of the break-light. I think with accompanying mold build up.

THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT BECOMES LOOSE ALLOWING WATER INTO THE TRUCK CAB. IT IS EITHER A RUBBER GASKET DEFECT OR IT WAS NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN NOTED IN NUMEROUS VENUES FOR THE 2016-2020 MODEL YEARS OF THE TOYOTA TACOMA. MINE LEAKS WHILE DRIVING OR STANDING STILL.

THE CAB MOUNTED THIRD BRAKE LIGHT FIXTURE IS ALLOWING A LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER TO LEAK INTO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. THE SEATS AND CARPET ARE GETTING SOAKED EVERY TIME THERE IS HEAVY RAIN. EVENTUALLY THE LIGHT WILL FAIL AND MOLD AND MILDEW WILL RESULT. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. TOYOTA DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT I THINK IS A DEFECTIVE GASKET IN THIS FIXTURE. I HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO TOYOTA.

The seat heater thermostat under the driver’s seat melted and charred while heater was in use Fire danger. Dealer said this happens to a small number of vehicles of similar age and manufacture date. This was inspected by the dealership. No lights or warns came on before, during or after. I noticed the seat heater stopped working. I inspected the fuse. The fuse was not burned out. I found the melted part under the seat in the heater wiring harness assembly. I have removed the fuse at this time to prevent energizing the harness further.

I had a heated seat failure. I do have the parts available for inspection. I removed the seat to find that the sub assy-seat heater and connecting wiring harness had been burnt which could potentially cause a fire. Toyota part numbers effected are: sub assy - 87501-0C020, wiring harness in the heater assy - 87510-04040 which was replaced by 87510-04050. I reported the issue to Toyota. There were no warning lights or indicators that there was an issue. The heated seat indicator light still shows the seat as on even though it was not heating. Toyota service bulletin T-SB-0130-18 has been issued about this issue, so Toyota obviously knows there is an issue. I've read in forums online that the root issue is the wiring not being large enough to handle the power to the seat, so ultimately replacing the factory parts would not guarantee the issue will not happen again.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Heated seat heating module. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Module burned out during usage and emitted fire odor and smoke when burnt out (potential fire hazard if kept on). Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? [XXX] Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Unknown. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? None. 2016 Tacoma limited heated seat heating module overheated/burned out with slight smoke under seat during minimal usage (texas based). TSB [XXX] released in October 2018, about the time most of the 2016 (produced in 2015) are going out of warranty, and based on frequency of usage and locale (warmer climates observe less usage) - also even though parts used are the same, VIN is apparently not affected. Toyota will not honor TSB even though the burn out can be a potential fire hazard if not known/smelled especially while traveling and buckled into seat belt (similar to Mercedes heated seats caught on fire). No notice provided by Toyota of TSB at time of issue. Item should be a recall as it affects many 2016-2018 Tacoma's and is a fire safety and burn hazard. Driver’s side front seat not delivering heat despite switch lamp indicating it’s on and working. Further exploration reveals passenger side seat heater working as it should. I checked wiring harness and connections under driver’s seat only to discover plastic connector entering amplifier scorched and melted with two of four pins destroyed (Red and Green wires). I believe the wire gauge sized for this system is improper and therefore represents a fire hazard. About the time the seat heater failed, I smelled a burning odor inside the car for a short time but didn’t associate the two events until later. The vehicle has 135,998 miles on it and therefore out of warranty. I spoke to the dealer who explained he’s had similar issues from other customers and added there is no recalls at this time.

The contact researched and read that the module underneath the seat could potentially burn causing the seat warmer not to operate as designed. The contact stated that it was a common failure. The contact stated that he then looked at the module in his vehicle and saw that it was melted. The contact had not noticed any smoke or a burning odor. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.

The driver's side seat heating element failed due to a defective seat heater amp. When independently researching the failure, which could have simply been an unconnected wire, I discovered the amp and wiring had an electrical seizure and the wiring had burned the amp. The heating amp sits underneath the seat and with the right conditions could cause the seat to catch fire. The issue has been reported to Toyota corporate.

I AM IN LINE BEHIND OVER 1200 OTHER PEOPLE FOR THE BACK ORDERED PART. INITIALLY I FELT THAT THIS WAS ONLY A COMFORT ISSUE, WHICH IS DISTRESSING ENOUGH ON A TRUCK THAT ONLY HAS 25,000 MILES ON IT, BUT I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE IT IMPACTS THE DEFROST MODE AS WELL. IF THE DEFROST IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY DUE TO THE FAN FOR THE HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM, AND TIMES OF INCLEMENT WEATHER LEAVE YOU WITH NO OPTIONS TO IMPROVE VISIBILITY FROM FOG OR ICE.

A LONG CRACK ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD QUICKLY DEVELOPED WITHIN HOURS AFTER PARKING THE TRUCK IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY EMPLOYER, AND HAS CONTINUED TO BRANCH OFF IN SEVERAL DIRECTIONS SINCE APPEARING, THUS COMPROMISING THE WINDSHIELD'S STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY AND SAFE VISIBILITY IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. THERE ARE NO CHIPS, WEB CRACKS OR EVIDENCE OF ANY IMPACTS SUCH AS THOSE OBTAINED FROM STRAY HIGHWAY ROCKS OR DEBRIS (CRACK BEGINS AT THE BASE OF THE GLASS, CLOSE THE CENTER). UPON RECEIVING A QUOTE FOR REPLACEMENT AT A NEARBY REPAIR SHOP, I NOTICED ANOTHER 2016 TACOMA THAT WAS REPORTEDLY IN QUEUE FOR THE SAME REPAIR. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT AN ALARMING AMOUNT OF NEW OWNERS OF THE 2016 MODEL OF TACOMA HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH CRACKS THAT SEEMINGLY DEVELOP "ON THEIR OWN", LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE POSSIBLY MIGHT BE ISSUES RELATED TO THE QUALITY, DESIGN, OR MANUFACTURE/INSTALLATION OF THE WINDSHIELDS. When using four-wheel drive, the vehicle was unable to make a left turn. I disengaged four-wheel drive, and the vehicle was stuck in four-wheel drive. This happened on two occasions. The first time was approximately August 2022 and the second time was last year. When I took it to the dealership, they said here was nothing wrong with it and they told me that I probably used the four-wheel drive incorrectly. Luckily, I was able to get the truck into a parking lot. The way that I was able to disengage it was to put the truck into reverse and back up a few yards then go forward a few yards and repeat until I hear a loud thump.

WHILE DRIVING IN CITY MY TRUCK SHAKES AND VIBRATING HORRIBLY WHEN GOING INTO 2ND GEAR. AND CONTINUES TO SHAKE LIGHTLY AS I CONTINUE DRIVING. DEALER SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE TRUCK COULD BE A TIRE ISSUE. SO GOT MY TIRES BALANCED AND ROTATED. PROBLEM STILL RESUMES. AND STILL NO ANSWER AS TO WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT'S COMING FROM UNDER MY TRUCK BED AND REDUCED PROPULSION. ROSEVILLE TOYOTA COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WHEN I TOOK IT THERE FOR MY FIRST 3 SERVICES. SO ON 5/22/17 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO FOLSOM LAKE TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME ABOUT THE REAR DIFF LEAK NHTSA RECALL#17V-285 AND INSPECTED AND FOUND A LEAK. THEY TOLD ME I WOULD RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL AND WHEN I DO CALL THEM TO ORDER THE PARTS. I CALLED THEM WHEN I GOT THE NOTICE IN JUNE AND WAS TOLD I'D BE CALLED WHEN THE PARTS ARE IN AND ITS 10/3/17 AND THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE ALL THE PARTS IN AND HAVE NOT REPAIRED MY NEW 2016 TACOMA IN A TIMELY MANNER.

I AM STILL PAYING FOR THE TRUCK THAT'S BEEN SITTING AT THE DEALER FOR 6 WEEKS. TOYOTA SAYS THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THEY WILL FIX MY TRUCK. I ALSO HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR A NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH THAT WAS NEVER FIXED. I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR THE 15000 MILE TIRE ROTATION AND WAS INFORMED IT HAD A LEAKY REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND HAVE NEVER SEEN MY TRUCK THAT I AM STILL PAYING FOR AGAIN,

During a safety inspection, it was found out that the steering rack was leaking. In a quick research on Google, it appears that many people that own this particular year and tacomas are experiencing the same issue. It is the first time for any car that we own and we keep our cars for more than 10 years. To us, this could be a manufacturing defect that should be investigated and a recall issue. We had it fixed so it can pass inspection, but something just doesn't make sense.

POWER STEERING ISSUES, LEAKS, CORRODED. CAN LEAD TO ENTIRE RACK AND PINON REPLACEMENT. STEERING IS TIGHT, ACTIVE FLUID LEAK(S); TOYOTA DEALER THAT IT WAS PURCHASED FROM KNEW IT WAS LEAKING BUT REFUSED TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. PER TOYOTA, POWER STEERING LEAKS CAN CAUSE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE, VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL LEAK IS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT WOULD NOT LOCATE THE LEAK AND REMEDY, LET ME DRIVE KNOWING IT COULD BE POTENIALLY HAZARDOUS.

During routine maintenance at a independent shop, the driver side power steering rack boot was found to be leaking. I was informed by a former Lexus master technician that this was a problem with some of the similar Lexus models previously. The vehicle currently had 47,xxx miles which seems very low for a power steering failure. I can provide images of the leak as needed and the vehicle has not been repaired as of this filing.

Recent in December wife said there’s a musty odor in truck. While vacuuming carpet on Friday 1/6/23 water came to surface. Searched everywhere for leak and found the 2 vents behind back seats had bad gaskets and leaking bad. After getting access under carpet, passenger side was dry but growing mold and drivers side is holding slimy water. The back seats are a little higher and we’re dry but signs of mold as well. These vents pop out through the cab outward but the bed has to be removed to replace them. I used silicone to seal from inside to stop water intrusion. Dealership no help, report and claim filed with Toyota corporate, insurance company and waiting for response. During the holidays, wife road in my truck several times and ended up spending a week in the hospital due to a fungal infection in her lungs and may be linked to the mold. While on a chat group, Tacoma Owners Group and Tacoma World, there are numerous other owners with the same issue and no help from Toyota.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING HOME ON A SNOWY NIGHT WHEN OUR CAR SLIPPED AND SLID DOWN AN EMBANKMENT ALMOST INTO A RIVER. LUCKILY, OUR CAR WAS STOPPED BY A LARGE BOULDER RIGHT AT THE WATERS EDGE. UNBEKNOWNST TO US AT THE TIME, WE HAD STOPPED COMPLETELY OUT OF THE WATER HOWEVER WE WERE NOT SURE BECAUSE EVERY AIRBAG IN OUR CAR DEPLOYED, COVERING ALL OF THE WINDOWS. IMMEDIATELY AFTER WE HIT THE BOULDER, WE TRIED RELENTLESSLY TO GET OUT OF BOTH FRONT DOORS AS WELL AS THE BACK DOOR, HOWEVER WE WERE UNABLE TO GET TO THE DOOR HANDLES BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEFLATE AS THEY SHOULD HAVE. AT THAT POINT, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO RIP THROUGH HIS FRONT DOOR AIRBAG TO REACH THE HANDLE AND GET BOTH OF US OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY. MY BIGGEST FEAR IS THAT IF WE HAD ENDED UP IN THE RIVER WE WOULD HAVE DROWNED DUE TO MALFUNCTIONING AIRBAGS. *TR

I brought my truck into Miller Toyota of Anaheim due to a violent shuddering and acceleration at about 40 to 50 mph. This could have caused driver to lose control and injure themselves, passengers, and other drivers on the road. Dealership diagnosed the problem as a bad torque converter in the transmission and said it would cost about $3200.00 to repair. Couldn't afford that so I took vehicle to an independent repair shop and they notified me that there was a Toyota Service Bulletin that addressed this concern and that they would have to do a complete reprogramming update of Transmission Control Module. I haven't had any issues since this was done but the dealership should have been aware of this problem which could be potentially fatal. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to this failure or during the failure.

I have three signifcant issues with my Tacoma: 1. A few months after purchasing my Tacoma in 2016 Toyota (no accidents to date & 95% highway driving) and one outside alignment shop had never been able to get the truck aligned properly so it would never keep its alignment more than 3-4 months; repeated visits to Toyota maintence for alignment over the years became as routine as an oil change, sometimes more frequently; the unaligned suspension constantly was causing unsafe handling and unintentional swerving. 2. Toyota missed, and maybe purposefully, identifying major engine, transfer case, and transmission leaks during regular and routine serivces (always serviced at Toyota dealerships) until my mileage exceeded 60,000 miles. Then when I asked the dealership to recheck a recent transfer case refresh because I saw leaks, I needed and got over $3,000 in repairs e.g. power steering pump, front and rear seals, differential gasket-- it was terrible. Toyota did give a good will reimbursment of $1,400. 3. Now ~6 months later and still under 80,000 miles, I just spent $4,100 for repairs on more engine leaks; Toyota will not tell me if my vehicle is safe to drive, tells me the truck is ourside its warranty period (as it was last year), and refuses any goodwill adjustment. Is this 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD a lemon?

On 11-27-2021 I lost all power while on a highway. I would lose power even with my foot all the way down the rpm would not rise at all. The power would come back adruptly and throw me back into my seat. The trac off and check engine light came on. My truck seemed like it was gonna stall and had a really low and rough idle. It was only about 0-500 rpm at idle and truck was shaking bad because of the engine. After getting towed home I tested the battery and alternator and those were fine. I believe it is the crankshaft position sensor. I have read that this has happened to man other people with the same truck as mine. There was a recall for the cps but for some reason my truck was not included.

3RD GENERATION (2016+) TOYOTA TACOMA'S HAVE A KNOWN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING LEAKING OF THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT. DURING RAINFALL AND DRIVING THROUGH A CARWASH, WATER WILL LEAK INTO THE DRIVERS COMPARTMENT RESULTING IN WATER DAMAGE AND POTENTIAL FOR MOLD AND MILDEW. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH WILL RESULT IN THOUSANDS OF OWNERS REPORTING THIS ISSUE. TOYOTA REFUSES TO COVER THIS ISSUE IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF THEIR WARRANTY PERIOD, WHICH CAN RESULT IN $1000+ LABOR BILL TO REPLACE A FAULTY GASKET. SEEING AS THIS IS A POTENTIAL HEALTH RISK TO OWNERS, THIS SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL TO REPLACE FOR OWNERS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD.

I HAVE NEVER OWN A VEHICLE FROM ANY MANUFACTURER THAT HAD SUCH A KNOCKING SOUND FROM THE VACUUM PUMP. IT IS MY PERCEPTION THAT THE KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE VACUUM PUMP IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND THAT TOYOTA CORPORATION MUST REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A BUSY THREE-LANE CITY STREET, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, I HEARD A "BEEP" SOUND, "BRAKE OVERRIDE MALFUNCTION" APPEARED OF MY DASHBOARD DISPLAY, I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, AND THE ENGINE CAME TO A SLOW IDLE. SINCE I DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, I COULD ONLY COAST TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE STREET. SINCE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER LANE ON THIS STREET, MY VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE, BLOCKING THE LANE OF TRAFFIC FOR SOME TIME UNTIL TWO GENTLEMEN CAME TO ASSIST ME WITH PUSHING MY VEHICLE OUT OF DANGER. REPAIR TOOK 10 BUSINESS DAYS SINCE THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE INITIALLY (REPAIR INVOICE WILL BE PROVIDED UPON REQUEST). REAR DIFFERENTIAL RECALL- ON MAY 9TH I DROPPED MY TRUCK OFF AT STEVENS CREEK TOYOTA TO HAVE THE TWO ERROR MESSAGES REVIEWED FOR CAUSE. THE ADVISOR, ROBIN LET ME KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FROM APRIL AND THAT THEY WOULD INSPECT MY VEHICLE FOR LEAKS. THE FIRST REPORT WAS THAT THERE WERE NO LEAKS. THE FOLLOWING MORNING WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO RETRIEVE MY TRUCK I WAS TOLD THE TRUCKS REAR DIFF WAS LEAKING TERRIBLY AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I WAS TOLD THE FIX WOULD BE COMPLETE IN ONE TO TWO WEEKS AND WAS GIVEN A COROLLA AS A COMPARABLE LOANER VEHICLE. AFTER TWO WEEKS OF FALSE UPDATES FROM VARIOUS TECHS I EMAILED THE SERVICE MANAGER AND REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE UPDATE ALONG WITH A TRULY COMPARABLE LOANER "TRUCK". I RECEIVED AN UPDATE OF "PER TOYOTA THERE IS NO FIX AND NO TIME LINE AS TO WHEN A FIX WILL HAPPEN". I WAS GIVEN A DODGE RAM RENTAL FROM ENTERPRISE AS AN UPGRADED LOANER VEHICLE. I HAVE CALLED THE NUMBER PROVIDED ON THE WEB-SITE 800.331.4331 AND THEY HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THERE IS STILL NO REPAIR AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN ONE WILL BE FORTHCOMING. I AM MAKING PAYMENTS AND PROVIDING INSURANCE ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE I HAVE BARELY EVEN DRIVEN AND NOW RESIDES ON THE DEALER LOT. AFTER 10,000 MILES THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THEN THE NEXT DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE TRACTION CONTROL. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY LOOKED AT IT SAYING I JUST NEED NEW SENSORS. DROVE IT A COUPLE MORE DAYS AND NOTICED THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NON EXISTENT. I DRIVE A LOT FOR WORK AND USE IT A TON AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WOULDN'T EVEN BRING THE LIGHT ON OR WORK AT ALL. THE NEXT DAY STARTED DRIVING AND THE REAL ISSUES STARTED. TURNED TRUCK ON; SAME PROBLEMS I HAVE BEEN HAVING; THEN THE TRUCK WOULD NOT SHIFT. KEPT GOING AND GOING TILL I WAS GETTING TO 5000RPM AND IT SHIFTED WITH A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF FORCE. ONCE IT SHIFTED THE WHOLE TRUCK DID A HUGE JERK THEN WENT A LITTLE MORE AN DID A DOUBLE SHIFT TOTALLY BYPASSING THE 3RD GEAR. I TURNED IT OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN. KEPT HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ALL DAY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID GET IT TO THEM WHEN I COULD AND THEY WOULD TAKE A LOOK. ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS TRYING TO GET THE BRAND NEW $35,000 TRUCK THAT DIDN'T WORK TO THE DEALERSHIP ALMOST RUNNING INTO THE PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME WHO CUT ME OFF BECAUSE I CAN'T GO OVER 40MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VIOLENT SHIFTING MOVING THE WHOLE TRUCK. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO BLAME ME FOR ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS THAT I COULD NOT HAVE POSSIBLY CAUSE IF I TRIED AND THAT MY BRAND NEW TRUCK WITH 10,000MILES ON IT WAS FINE JUST NEEDED A COUPLE SENSORS. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS NOT WORKING AND I THINK SENSORS ARE THE LEAST OF THE WORRIES.

Truck had to be abandoned after I attempted to start it and the brake pedal was stiff and the ignition would not allow starter to function. Dashboard message indicated a brake problem with transmission interlock. The next day, after viewing a U-Tube video on the problem (same make/model/year) I held the starter button in for 12-15 seconds with no foot on the brake. The engine started but the transmission remained locked in Park. Tow truck operator was able to release the shifter using an access port and screwdriver and found that he could drive it up onto the inclined platform. Once in place on the platform he shifted to Park and found it was again locked. This issue disabled the truck in a traffic area where it could not be started or shifted into Neutral to move it...a dangerous situation.

Vehicle is designed in such a way as to allow moisture accumulating in drivers side floor mat and carpeting to wick upward and be deposited on the primary vehicle wiring harness located in the drivers side kick panel. The moisture collected travels down into the backside of the various female connectors and corrodes the conductors and receptacles that result in short circuits between the various vehicle components including the ignition, engine shutoff, temperature sensors, Antilock Breaking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Fuel Gauge, Forward Vehicle Lighting (high and low beam), Security, Traction Control and other critical vehicle systems. On February 5th, 2023 I returned to my vehicle to find the security alarm sounding in the parking lot of a local business, both the keyless entry system and key-fob were unresponsive and would neither silence the alarm or unlock the vehicle. After manually unlocking the door handle the alarm ceased, the vehicle started as normal and then began indicating a failure of the BSM system, while underway the ABS indicated it had also failed and upon arrival at our destination the engine would not turn off even with the emergency shutdown routine prescribed for unintended acceleration cases. In addition, the high beams would be triggered by unrelated button operation occasionally fail to turn off, the fuel gauge, temperature readouts and climate control provided unintelligible values. The vehicle was returned to to dealership where it was determined that water from the floormats was able to contaminate and cause systemwide failure. The repair was to replace the entire wire harness which would not be covered by warranty. On 3/15/2023 I reached out to Toyota Headquarters' Customer Engagement team and was advised that Toyota was aware of the problem and had no interest or obligation in rectifying the situation, regardless of my concerns that this presented a clear safety hazard to both operators and the general public.

Vehicle made a loud bang from the rear of the vehicle , then started to slow down slightly without brakes applied. And then suddenly within a few more feet the Rear wheels locked up without brakes applied. Traveling at between 35- 45mph the vehicle skidded causing vehicles behind me to also skid to avoid hitting me. Truck would not move from this position , I was stuck in the lane without a shoulder to move close to . It wouldn’t move back so I put it back in drive and it made another bang noise and started to roll forward with a lot of resistance . There was no safe place to park, I was close to home so I continued home driving very slow with my hazard lights on . Please help. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT IS VERY DIM AND DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WELL. I CONTACTED CROWN DODGE OF FAYETTEVILLE AND THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. THIS WAS A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AFTER BECAUSE LIFE HAPPENS AND I WORK WITH THE MILITARY. I DON'T HAVE A REGULAR SCHEDULE. I DO HAVE A WARRANTY BUT I'M NOT USING MY WARRANTY TO COVER SOMETHING THEY SHOULD FIX. WHEN I CALLED TO TALK TO A SALES MANAGER NO ONE WOULD ANSWER IT RANG AND RANG. THE COMPUTER ON THE VEHICLE WILL SHOW THE AIR BAG SENSOR AT LEAST.

WHEN IT RAINS WATER COMES INSIDE THE CABIN AROUND BRAKE LIGHT AND SOAKS THE SEATS. I NOTICED THIS WHEN THE TRUCK IS STATIONARY. I THINK IT'S COMING AROUND THE BRAKE LIGHTS GASKET THE WHOLE BACK IF WET ON THE DRIVER SIDE LOOKS LIKE WATER IS COMING IN FROM THE BRAKE LIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE HEADLINER. I'VE ALSO SEEN OTHER VIEWS OR REPORTS ON THIS INCIDENT

WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN TO REPLACE IF AN ISSUE BEFORE THE 3 YEARS 36,000 MILES. HAVE HAD THE TRUCK FOR 4.5 YEARS AND NOW THE BSM LEFT SIDE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ONLY HAVE 26,567 MILES ON THE TRUCK! IF THEY HAD AN ISSUE, WHY AREN'T THEY REPLACING THEM IF THE ISSUES HAPPEN WITHIN THE 36,000.

INTERIOR LEAKING WHEN IT RAINS OR WHENEVER VEHICLE GETS WET. A HEALTH HAZARD, SAFETY CONCERN, AND POTENTIAL RISK TO PASSENGERS AS WELL. CAUSE OF PROBLEM IS DEFECTIVE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT SEAL. OF COURSE TOYOTA MAKE IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO EASILY REPLACE THE LIGHT OR SEAL AS YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE INTERIOR CEILING TO GET TO BOLTS. SAD I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW AND IT LEAKS WATER BUT SINCE WARRANTY JUST ENDED, THEY WILL NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT FIXING THIS ISSUE. IF A LAWSUIT RESULTS ABOUT OF THIS COUNT ME IN, HOPEFULLY A RECALL TAKES PLACE SOON BECAUSE DUCT TAPE CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH PLUS WHO WANTS TO DRIVE AROUND WITH DUCT TAPE ON THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT.

HAD THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON ROAD IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.

TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHEN SHIFTED FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE TO DRIVE. HAS A 1-3 SECOND DELAY. IN ADDITION THIS SLIP MOTION CREATED A LOUD GEAR CRANKING NOISE AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE ON A U-TURN. THE TRUCK DID NOT MOVE OR SHIFT DESPITE HEARING THE ENGINE ACCELERATE ACCOMPANIED BY THE METALLIC GEAR-LIKE GRIND SOUND. SOUND VERY SIMILAR TO A STICK CAR WHEN YOU TRY TO ENGAGE A SHIFT WITHOUT THE CLUTCH (BUT MY TRUCK IS 2016 AUTOMATIC TRD-SPORT). LASTLY, WHEN TAKING SPEED BUMPS OR HARD SHIFTING MOTION (UP-DOWN) YOU CAN HEAR THE SUSPENSIONS MAKE A LOUD CLANK NOISE AS THE TRUCK SHIFTS IN THE SPEED BUMP MOTION.

THIS CAR HAS SHUT OFF TWICE WHILE DRIVING. FIRST TIME WHILE TOWING A BOAT... WHILE TURNING LEFT ON A HIGH SPEED TWO LANE ROAD AND SECOND WHILE GOING 45 TOWARDS A GREEN LIGHT. BOTH TIMES THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED...TWICE! TOYOTA SAYS "FIXED' THE PROBLEM "TWICE". WE ASKED THEM TO BUY THE CAR BACK AFTER THE SECOND TIME, AS WE NO LONGER FELT SAFE IN IT.......THEY REFUSED. AS A GESTURE OF "GOOD WILL" THEY OFFERED US AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, WHICH WE HAD ALREADY GOTTEN WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR SO IT WAS POINTLESS. WE CREATED A CASE WITH THEM AFTER IT OCCURRED THE SECOND TIME. THE MOST RECENT RECALL THAT ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE DOES NOT INCLUDE THIS MODEL YEAR AND IT NEEDS TO. SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE..THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. WE ARE NOW STUCK WITH A CAR THAT WE DON'T FEEL SAFE IN BUT TOYOTA WOULD NOT DO THE RIGHT THING. HOPEFULLY BY US REPORTING OUR PROBLEM IT WILL SAVE SOMEONE ELSE LIFE.

THE BLUETOOTH ON THE IPHONE 11 PRO MAX AND THE TACOMA ARE NOT COMMUNICATING CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE I CAN NOT TALK HANDS FREE AS I AM SUPPOSE HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO SO. THE ENTIRE HEADSET WILL TURN OFF AND ON CONSTANTLY , THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THIS IS TO EITHER TURN OFF THE BLUETOOTH ON THE IPHONE OR REMOVE THE IPHONE FROM THE TACOMA. I HAVE READ ON LINE THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND EITHER TOYOTA OR APPLE IS DOING ANYTHING TO RESOLVE IT, CAUSING A SAFTEY ISSUE.

CAR HESITATES WHEN NEEDING TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY. WHILE SLOWING DOWN THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS PUSHING ,NOT DOWN SHIFTING FAST ENOUGH. THE DIFFERENTIAL BANG AT TIME WHEN COMING TO A STOP, IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS NOT DISENGAGING. I THINK THERE IS A PROGRAMMING ISSUE THAT TOYOTA IS NOT ADMITTING TO. I ALSO HEARD THAT THERE IS A BLOWER ISSUE. THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS WHEN YOU GO TO ACCELERATE THEN DON'T AND THEN DO. CAR GOES INTO NEURTAL HUNTING FOR A GEAR

'TAKITA RECALL ' SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE TAKEN MY PICKUP TO THE DEALER FOR A CLING, SPRING SOUND WHEN YOU ARE APPLY BRAKES. AND THE ENGINE HAS LOUD TICKING SOUND .THE FIRST TIME THEY SAID IT WAS HOW THE VEHICLE WAS MADE. THERE IS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE ON A BAD ROAD DISCLOSE THEY CANT HEAR ANYTHING. TOOK IT BACK AGAIN THEY SAID THEY CAN'T FIND NOTHING EVEN TO THE BRAKE NOISE THAT THEY SAID WAS A PART OF HOW THE VEHICLE WAS MADE. THEY TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HAVE IT FOR TWO DAYS THEN PRETEND TO WORK ON IT THEN GIVE IT BACK TO YOU AND NEVER FIND ANYTHING. THEN YOU THE CUSTOMER HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THESE ANNOYING UNSAFE EXPERIENCES. YOU GET SO DISCOURAGED BECAUSE THEY NEVER CAN FIND ANYTHING AND WHEN THEY DO IS HOW THE VEHICLE IS MADE THEN BY THE TIME YOU KEEP GOING BACK AND WITH THE SAME RESPOND THE WARRANTY IS CLOSE TO END. LAST TIME I TOOK THE PICKUP IN WAS JANUARY 28,2019 AND THEY RETURNED IT ON THE 30TH WITH NO DOCUMENT TO WHAT THEY DID.

MY BSM SENSORS WERE BLINKING AND A NOTICE CAME UP ON THE CONSOLE TO CHECK BSM INDICATORS. I MANUALLY TURNED OFF THIS FUNCTION AND BACK ON---THE LIGHT WAS BLINKING AND THE BSM SENSORS WERE STILL NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN THE DEALERSHIP TODAY THEY DID SOME TESTS AND LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BSM WIRE HARNESS BECAUSE OF WATER DAMAGE GETTING INTO THE REAR BUMPER. THE ESTIMATE WAS FOR 1,0588.49 FOR REPARE. I THINK IF TOYOTA IS SELLING BLIND SPOT MONITORS AS A SAFETY FEATURE, THEY SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 2 YEARS AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. THIS IS AN OFF ROAD VEHICLE? THIS SEEMS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM AFTER RESEARCHING IT ONLINE AND IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD, NOT TO MENTION THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD.

THE PROBLEMS DESCRIBED BELOW HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO MY DEALER GULLO TOYOTA IN CONROE, TX. THE DEALER IS AWARE THAT THIS MODEL TRUCK HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE AND MISFIRING AND STALLING. WHILE DRIVING EAST ON FM1097 BETWEEN LAKE CONROE AND WILLIS, TX ON 2/06/18, I WAS REQUIRED TO MAKE A QUICK STOP. A LOUD BUMP SOUND CAME FROM BENEATH THE TRUCK. PRIOR TO THIS STOP, THE ENGINE HAD BEEN MISFIRING FROM-TIME-TO-TIME. AFTER THE QUICK STOP AND THE BUMP SOUND CAME FROM BENEATH THE TRUCK, THE ENGINE STARTED MISFIRING AT A CONSTANT AND VIOLENT RATE FOR A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 1 MILE. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN MAKING AN UNUSUAL BUMP SOUND WHICH OCCURS SHORTLY AFTER COMING TO A STOP SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN 2016. THE TRUCK HAS ALSO BEEN MISFIRING FOR AS LONG AS I HAVE OWNED IT. I AM AFRAID THAT THE BUMP MAY BE DUE TO LOOSE OR BROKEN MOTOR OR TRANSMISSION MOUNTS, LOOSE SUSPENSION BOLTS OR THE GAS TANK MAY BE SHIFTING. THE MISFIRE MAY INDICATE THAT A FUEL LINE IS BEING RESTRICTED WHEN THE GAS TANK SHIFTS POSITION. A PINCHED OR DEFORMED GAS LINE MAY BE STARVING THE FUEL PUMP AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO MISFIRE. SINCE THE BUMP SOUND IS DELAYED AND OCCURS AFTER COMING TO A STOP, IT SUGGEST TO ME THAT THE GAS TANK MAY BE THE CAUSE SINCE THE GASOLINE IN THE TANK IS IN MOTION AFTER THE TRUCK COMES TO A STOP. I NEED TOYOTA TO TAKE THIS DEFECTIVE TRUCK IN AND REPAIR IT FOR THIS AND ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS I HAVE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TO TOYOTA. TOYOTA NEEDS TO PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER TRUCK WHILE MY TRUCK IS BEING REPAIRED. I HAVE LEFT MY TRUCK WITH TOYOTA 5 TIMES FOR THE MISFIRE AND TOYOTA HAS NOT EVERY PROVIDED ME WITH A LOANER VEHICLE. I NEED A LOANER TRUCK WHILE MY TRUCK IS BEING REPAIRED.

ALL OF THE PROBLEMS LISTED BELOW HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, GULLO TOYOTA, CONROE, TEXAS. 1) ENGINE MISFIRES (5 ATTEMPTS AT REPAIR. STILL MISFIRES.). 2) VEHICLE STALLS DUE TO TRANSMISSION SEARCHING FOR THE CORRECT GEAR (DEVELOPED AFTER THE LAST ATTEMPT TO REPAIR MISFIRE IN SEPTEMBER 2016). 2) ENGINE HAS DEVELOPED A RATTLE AFTER 20,000 + MILES AND SOMETIMES SOUNDS LIKE A ROD IS KNOCKING. SOUNDS LIKE ENGINE IS NOT BEING LUBRICATED PROPERLY. THIS MAY LEAD TO EARLY FAILURE OF THE SMOG CONTROL SYSTEM AND EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION (TOYOTA CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS TRUCK). 3) BUMP SOUND COMES FROM BENEATH TRUCK WHEN STOPPING AND MAY BE LOOSE OR BROKEN MOTOR OR TRANSMISSION MOUNT (TOYOTA STATED THAT THE TRUCK IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED). 4) GRINDING SOUND COMES FROM REAR END WHEN REAR WHEELS SLIP AND AUTOMATIC LIMITED SLIP IS SELECTED (TOYOTA HAS STATED THAT THE TRUCK IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED). 5) ENGINE REVS UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN BACKING OUT OF OR DRIVING INTO GARAGE (TOYOTA HAS STATED THAT THE TRUCK IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED). 6) LOUD BANG COMES FROM BENEATH TRUCK WHEN COMING TO A QUICK STOP. SOUNDS LIKE THE GUTS OF THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT FORWARD (DEALERSHIP HAS NOT ARRANGED TO PROVIDE A LOANER TRUCK SO THAT THIS PROBLEM AND ALL THE PERSISTENT PROBLEMS LISTED ABOVE CAN BE REPAIRED. TOYOTA INSIST THAT I BRING MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DRIVE MY TRUCK AROUND AND DEMONSTRATE THE EXISTENCE OF THESE PROBLEMS TO THE TOYOTA'S FIELD SERVICE TECH. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE THAT THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR REAR DIFFERENTIAL PROBLEMS AND ENGINE MISFIRE AND STALLING. I NEED THE DEALERSHIP TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECTIVE TRUCK AND TAKE IT INTO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND KEEP IT UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. I NEED A LOANER TRUCK WHILE THE REPAIRS ARE MADE. I HAVE PUT MUCH NEEDED WORK ON-HOLD FOR A YEAR DUE TO THIS TRUCK.).

WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE ACCELERATION IS ERRATIC. I WILL PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GET TO A CRUISING SPEED (THIS HAPPENS ANYWHERE BETWEEN 40-60 MPH) AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATES AND THE TACHOMETER JUMPS FROM BETWEEN 2000 AND 3000 TO THE UPPER 4000 ? 5000 RANGE. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN I HAVE THE CAR IN CRUISE CONTROL, IT DOES THE SAME THING WHEN GOING UP HILLS. THE ENGINE REVS LOUDLY AND THE TRUCK LURCHES ERRATICALLY FORWARD, SO I HAVE TO QUICKLY TAKE IT OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL AND GET THE PEG ON THE TAC DOWN TO A MORE REASONABLE LEVEL. MECHANICS AT THE SCHEDULED DID NOT MAKE A NOTE OF ANY ISSUES. I WILL PRESS THIS WITH THEM AT THE NEXT TUNE-UP AND SAFETY CHECK. THE ONLINE FORM HERE ASKS FOR A SPECIFIC DATE. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR 11-JUNE-2016 TO PRESENT (21-OCT-16). *TR

FIRST INCIDENT OCCURED WHILE VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN LIGHT SNOW AND ICE CONDITION. 4-WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM DID NOT APPEAR TO BE OPERATING PROPERLY. ENGAGED NEW "CRAWL-CONTROL" SYSTEM PER OWNER'S MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS. DURING USE OF CRAWL-CONTROL THE MOTOR RPM'S EXCEEDED 5,500; IMMEDIATELY PRESSED ENGINE-STOP BUTTON AND APPLIED BRAKES. INCIDENT RESULTED IN CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE OF FRONT DRIVE-LINE. DAMAGE INCLUDED FRONT DRIVE-SHAFT FAILURE; DEALER INDICATED "DRIVE-LINE" REPLACED. SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS ADJACENT TO FRONT DRIVE-SHAFT. VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. TWO DAYS AFTER SERVICE RANDOM BRAKE LOCK-UP OCCURS WHILE DRIVING; VEHICLE SKIDS OUT OF CONTROL. NO MALFUNCTION INDICATORS SHOWING. ABS ALSO DOES NOT ACTIVATE DURING PANIC STOP BRAKE APPLICATION. BRAKE LOCKUP EXPERIENCED IN WINTER CONDITIONS AT HIGH ELEVATION NEARLY CAUSING POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENT (1,000FT DROP FROM ROAD TO CANYON BOTTOM, NO GUARD-RAILS). WHILE DRIVING AT 30MPH THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK BEGINS TO SLIDE SIDEWAYS. UPON COMING TO A STOP IT IS DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT DRIVE FORWARD. ENGAGED 4-WHEEL DRIVE AND VEHICLE STRUGGLED TO MOVE. ENGAGED DIFFERENTIAL LOCK AND DROVE BACKWARDS FOR 80FT. WHEELS APPEAR TO BECOME UN-LOCKED. DRIVE FORWARD FOR ANOTHER 500 YARDS AND SAME SITUATION OCCURS.

ON 11/23/15 I WAS ABLE TO TAKE POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE. ON 11/24/15 I GOT INTO THE VEHICLE TO CRANK IT UP WHEN THE VEHICLE'S WARNING LIGHTS OF BRAKE, ABS WARNING TO CHECK THE ANTI'LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AND CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM AND THE ANTISKID/TRACTION LIGHTS CAME ON AT APPROXIMATE 110 MILES. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD NOT HURT THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE IT AND THAT IT WAS SAFE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS PROBABLY JUST A FUSE BY A SALESPERSON, WHO ALLEGEDLY TALKED TO ONE OF THE MASTER TECHNICIANS ABOUT THE SITUATION. ON 11/30/15 I ALSO REPORTED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ALSO NOT WORKING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHEN I ARRIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BAD LEFT REAR SPEED SENSOR AT 185 MILES AND AGAIN THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. ON 12/04/15 AT 334 MILES THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. AS I WAS GOING HOME ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND LESS THAN 10 MILES AWAY, THE SAME LIGHTS AND WARNING READOUTS CAME BACK ON. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE VEHICLE AROUND AND PROCEEDED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. ON MY WAY BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHILE SLOWING DOWN, A LOUD METALLIC BANGING/RATTLE COULD BE HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR END. WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, I EXPLAINED THE SAME SYMPTOMS HAPPENED AGAIN AS BEFORE AND THAT NOW CLANGING/RATTLE IN THE REAR END HAD DEVELOPED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. AT APPROXIMATELY 4:00P.M., I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT A REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY FROM THE FACTORY, THAT IT HAD DONE SOME DAMAGE AND THAT THE PARTS WERE ORDERED. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS ABOUT POSSIBLE OTHER DAMAGE SUCH AS THE BRAKES, TIRE, SENSORS OR THE REAR HOUSING AND SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE.
