The MMI (Information and entertainment system) spontaneously reboots numerous times while driving. When the reboots happen, the screen goes black and key systems such as the backup camera, rear obstacle detection, and navigation, become unavailable until the reboot completes and the systems reload. Restoring functionality requires user input to get through the loading screens. The issue started in March 2025. It seems there are numerous TSBs (filed with NHTSA) that point to available software updates that should be applied to address infotainment-related issues. This appears to be a widespread issue based on the numerous reports found on user forums online, affecting the same model year vehicles (for multiple examples, refer to [XXX] ). It is also interesting that most of the users experiencing this issue, also report it starting around the same time (Jan/Feb/Mar 2025), and they all have similar software versions, and likely production dates. This should be considered a safety issue, as the reboots can happen in the middle of a reverse parking maneuver, and they render the backup camera and obstacle detection sensors completely inoperative until the system reloads. They also impact safety on the highway, as the reboots completely disable the navigation screens, and require multiple user input to restore, while driving. This problem seems to be fixed by implementing TSB 2078437/1, Although I do take issue with Audi charging between 400-600 dollars to implement a safety fix to their faulty software. Vehicle's MMI started rebooting spontaneously from 4th week of June 2025. It happens randomly during drive and while following GPS directions. I strongly believe this being a software glitch and occurring without codes, it is a safety issue. These reboots are very unpredictable and happens constantly. When reported to Audi Dealers, they don't have a solution for it. After reviewing many blogs, and so many drivers are having this particular issue, I have decided to report it to NHTSA. I had experienced this problem prior of the center screen/Mimi restarting but typically it used to not be very often maybe once every few weeks. But for the past week it has been happening every 30 seconds to a min. This has caused my backup camera to restart as I am backing up causing me to almost get in an accident. As well as that as I am driving I am constantly having to focus on fixing the MMI and shutting off the volume as whenever it turns back on it plays radio static. I am very disappointed in the way Audi has handled this as I am still below 50,000 miles and they refuse to help. This problem is very frustrating as they don’t even have a 100% fix. Their first option was $598 update which I believe is very unfair considering this only happens to select cars and it’s not like this is an extra feature you’re paying for. The second option they gave was a $5,000 module replacement which is just unbelievable considering this has nothing to do with user fault but rather poor manufacturing. This whole situation is outrageous as I see many other individuals with the same problems and no solutions.

This is incredibly dangerous as it turns all sound off, and driving visuals like directions, and freezes or reboots, not where you last had it but from a different check point. It has happened while I have been backing up and backup camera has rebooted during backup. Parking Collision has also malfunctioned multiple times - but primary issue is the MMI rebooting even while driving on the freeway.

MMI Constant Rebooting - Follow up My 2020 Audi A4 Quattro's MMI system constantly reboots (~60 seconds), causing the screen to go black/blank. Component Failed: MIB3 infotainment software. This persistent issue leads to reboots and loss of digital display. System available for inspection. Safety Risk: Significant, recurring hazard. Critical safety features are inoperative for ~1 min during reboots, including: Rearview camera (backing/parking safety) Navigation Communication No manual bypass exists; driver loses vital visual information Problem Confirmation: Consistently reproducible. Dealer proposed costly hardware replacement with no guarantee, contradicting manufacturer guidelines for known software issues. Symptoms: continuous black screen, Audi splash, then re-initialization. Problem worsened over weeks. Manufacturer's Knowledge: Extensive owner research (AudiWorld, Reddit) confirms this as a widespread, documented MIB3 software defect for 2020 Audi A4/A5 models. Audi's own Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this: TSB 2069112 (MIB3 improvements) TSB 2067021 (MIB3 malfunctions) These TSBs outline a specific, sequential software update process (e.g., older versions need TSB 2067021 first for TSB 2069112). Other owners successfully resolved rebooting with these updates. I have started experiencing issues with the MMI (infotainment system) system rebooting every few minutes. It was very sporadic at first, but now it is at the point where I frequently don't have time to get into the system before it starts the reboot cycle again. When this happens, the screen will go blank for several seconds. Then a message will show for several seconds saying that the system is loading. The system will then try to guide me through several prompts to try to log back into the car's MMI system. Even if I choose "Guest User" I am shown multiple prompts before I get into the system and can use the functions located in the MMI. This can and does happen while driving, while parked, and while backing up. This reboot sequence makes all of the safety features, including collision avoidance and the backup camera inaccessible during this time. Sometimes, the system reboots before I have time to even back out of my driveway. Frequently, I don't have time to sign in or work through the prompts to get to the working system before it starts rebooting again. This issue started in February, 2025, but it was infrequent then. Over the past month, the issue has been persistent with the system rebooting every 5 minutes or less. This is very distracting while trying to drive and takes the driver's attention away from driving. As stated before, it also makes the safety features of the vehicle inaccessible - such as collision avoidance and backup camera.

Vehicles MMI constantly cycling through reboot - inordinate amount of previous complaints about this exact issue - Dealer advised a min $1040 ($370 to diagnose + $670 new MMI) to diagnose and change MMI console with NO guarantee it will work and that's because: the dealer has not updated MIB2 (aka the MMI) using the instructions on a different bulletin, titled "TSB 2067021 - 91 MIB3: Garage opener/SXM/Online Radio or other malfunctions B129B11, B129C22, B123B13, B123C13, U044700 or B200000" (latest version is from July 27, 2024, they've had 6 revisions), before applying the most recent update. So it looks like, at a minimum, I'm two updates behind (encompassing of course, a ton of intermediate versions). So right there, the dealerships have been failing by not even taking the time to read Audi's own TSBs. The dealership said: they have seen this before and they have seen many leave without resolve May I please be placed on the list of VINs that when all complaints are proven to be true and a recall is issued, I can partake in the MMI update? It truly is dangerous as the entire console shuts down, meaning cameras and system are not available for viewing protection (the minimum safety precautions expected with cameras, etc) Audi needs to recognize this is a widespread issue. It appears that they are picky with who they provide updates to and who they ignore as some owners received an update and while their MMI doesn't function 100%, it doesn't cycle through reboot every 60 seconds.

My 2020 Audi A4 infotainment MMI keeps rebooting and takes over a minute or so to load back. This has been happening recently and i have rebooted the system and followed the Audi/reddit forums to seek any help but no resolution. It seems most of the 2020 Audis are facing similar issues. This issue is concerning and needs immediate attention since I have had instances where i lost backup camera while backing. Losing Navigation Capabilities or backup camera feature while backing up or driving has jeopardized me couple of times since i had to fumble and hit brakes as i was almost handicap momentarily. Audi is aware of this issue and have had issued TSB in 2020 which is attached here, but no recall was ever conducted which they should as this now an industry wide problem. Also, i got to know that S they have issued a 2021 MMI recall affecting over 44k Cars but not 2020, which is very surprising. Based on forums and other users it seems the Firmware version 3243 need an overhaul or even MMI module replacement if firmware update doesn't fix the issue. Request the authority to investigate this known issue for 2020 car line with similar intensity as this a widespread safety hazard. MMIs usually incorporate other modules as well so there is risk for ADAS failures or parking aids. Starting in Feb 2025 my MMI will randomly turn off and eventually turn back on randomly. This happens 10 times in 10min. I can’t drive the car due to it being unsafe. It turns maps off, music, calls, and the dashboard. I’ve found 100’s of other Audi 2020 owners having the exact same issue. The complaints and asking for advice are in a site called Audi world. Type in a4 2020 MMI reboot and you’ll see that it started at the same time for all of us. Around Feb. the dealership scanned and nothing came up, they updated and it hasn’t fixed it. They said they don’t know what’s wrong. Called Audi they said the same. Getting the run around. They did offer to look at it for probably $2000 and said they can’t guarantee they’ll be able to fix it. Please make a recall. Started in Feb and is still occurring. Today it restarted 7 times while idle. Doesn’t matter what you do with or without phone. It turns off then eventually back on.

It is dangerous when I’m relying on it for navigation. I have not had this issue looked at at an Audi dealership but have read this issue seems to be widespread with 2020 models. The infotainment system will randomly reboot while the vehicle is on and being driven. The system will shut off, initialize, and reload. If using CarPlay, the system will shut it down and require you to manually reconnect your phone and enable CarPlay for it to load on the display. This system will reboot randomly about 4-5 times within a 30 minute/30 mile drive. To reconnect your phone you have to click on the display because the vehicle does not have a command knob that can be used without having to reach the display.

The MMI Infotainment system on my car repeatedly turns off and restarts while driving. This system controls both the entertainment system and cameras and display that monitor collisions, creating a significant safety concern. In addition, rebooting it while driving requires interaction with the touch screen which is an additional distraction to the driver. This began in ~ January of 2025 and persists. When the system restarts it shut off the backup camera, parking sensors and all other functionality on the screen. When the system restarts it disables navigation as well. Audi mmi will shut off randomly, while in drive(accelerating or not), reverse, or idle, causing the camera and sensors to become inoperable, and the vehicle gives a warning saying “parking aid: malfunction! Obstacles cannot be detected” only after the mmi system has rebooted. When this occurs while reversing, not only a car but a pedestrian may be passing behind me and I would not know. This issue also causes the car to randomly ask for a pin to log in to the mmi after rebooting randomly (there is no pin that exists for any users in my vehicle and even asks when i am on a guest user), creating further distractions while driving like when i may need to use navigation, especially when the system reboots repeatedly five to six times within a ten minute time frame. This issue has been recurrent from 3/13/2025 to present 7/13/2025

The vehicles MMI system out of nowhere keeps turning off and says "checking for remote access rights" and this happens constantly now for the past few months. Happened to reboot when I was backing out of a parking spot and my rear view camera turned off as well as the parking collision monitoring system. They all stopped working and I almost hit a pedestrian walking behind my car. This is a serious safety concern as this keeps happening every few minutes now in my car. Not sure if it became more persistent since my last vehicle maintenance few months ago but it's a problem. Driving with navigation engaged, it happened again while on highway and system shut down and I had no clue where to go. It's very distracting to happen while driving and all shut down.

Shortly after my warranty expired last september ([XXX]) my 2020 Audi A4 Allroad started to experience random episodes of the car's main entertainment touch screen rebooting in the middle of the car being operated. This usually would only happen once or twice during maybe an hour long car ride. Then this spring, starting in mid-March the car started to experience the MMI reboots more often, say 6-7 times over an hour long car ride. This started to happen more often, and then it would be around 4-5 times in a 20 minute car ride. I noticed that when this would happen, it would cause issues with the backup camera (the camera would stop function during the 60 second reboot. Also, if a parking sensor (or cross-traffic warning sensor, incorporated with the backup camera) was detecting something near the car during the reboot and the camera turning off, it would throw a safety system communication error on the Audi Virtual Dashboard. It was clearly a safety issue and it made maneuvering to park on a busy street very dangerous for folks outside the car and inside. I went to the dealership twice to get the MMI reboots fixed, and received two software updates and a 5F module replacement (quoted at $5k, Audi offered the part 90% off) - all three attempts resulted in the car with a MMI rebooting even faster. It now reboots and has the same issues as before with the car MMI rebooting between every 2-5 minutes during operation. The MMI or infotainment center turns off and reboots/kicks user out while the car is in motion and also while stopped. The MMI going off has cut out while backing up not allowing the rear camera to be used and has also not allowed the front and rear sensors to be used for parking/auto breaking. There seems to be a large portion of similar complaints and unknown fixes for 2020 models either exactly the same or similar. Personally have not had it inspected or attempted to fix outside the recommended soft reset, user account reset, and even unplugging battery to reset as well. No fix has been identified or has proven to not cause the issue from recurring. This has occurred more frequently in past week or so ~15Jun where it rebooted once in an two drive, 16Jun no reboots for 1.5 hour min drive, 17Jun one reboot for 1.5 hour drive, and 19Jun where it rebooted 7 times in 2 hour drive. There is no warning and seems to be random or when on full screen maps through Android Auto.

Radio keeps cutting off and on randomly, nothing it seeming to fix the problem and all 2020 a4 owners have been running into this. It is also messing with backup camera. This needs to get brought to attention and find a solution.

while driving. These reboots typically happen every 5–10 minutes and result in the temporary loss of safety-critical features like the backup camera, navigation system, and rear cross-traffic alert. The screen goes black, and the system restarts itself while the vehicle is in motion, which is both distracting and potentially dangerous. I brought the issue to my local Audi dealer, who attempted two separate software updates. Unfortunately, the problem continues. The service department reports no faults in the system diagnostics and has stated that they currently do not know how to fix the issue. This persistent malfunction affects key safety systems and creates significant concern when driving.

MMI (Infotainment system) shuts down periodically while vehicle is being driven or is idling in Park. Radio, navigation, etc., are affected. Also, the vehicles' collision warning system shuts down at the same time. Generally, the system will reboot itself within a few minutes. There is no real pattern to this issue as it may occur several times during a short trip in the car. The next day it may not happen at all. I contacted Audi dealer who stated they are not familiar with this issue and knew of no fixes.

The MMI spontaneously reboots numerous times while driving. When the reboots happen, the screen goes black and key systems such as the backup camera, rear obstacle detection, and navigation, become unavailable until the reboot completes and the systems reload. Restoring functionality requires user input to get through the loading screens. The issue started in mid-February 2025 and the vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic who verified the concern and attempted a factory reset (which did not solve the issue), and they continue to claim there's nothing they can do since their OBD scans return no fault codes, even though there are numerous TSBs (filed with NHTSA) that point to available software updates that should be applied to address infotainment-related issues. This appears to be a widespread issue based on the numerous reports found on user forums online, affecting the same model year vehicles (for multiple examples, refer to [XXX] ). It is also interesting that most of the users experiencing this issue, also report it starting around the same time (Jan/Feb 2025), and they all have similar software versions, and likely production dates. This should be considered a safety issue, as the reboots can happen in the middle of a reverse parking maneuver, and they render the backup camera and obstacle detection sensors completely inoperative until the system reloads. They also impact safety on the highway, as the reboots completely disable the navigation screens, and require multiple user input to restore, while driving. I have also filed a case with Audi Customer Experience (as many other customers have for this issue) and the number is [XXX], opened on 5/2/25, and I'm still pending for a satisfactory resolution. The contact owns a 2020 Audi A4. The contact stated that while pulling out of a parking space, there was big rock next to the bumper on the front passenger's side of the vehicle and there was a scallop area with stones next to the passenger's side of the vehicle as well. The contact stated that she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the scallop area and the vehicle was stuck between the scallop area and the big rock. There was no further information provided. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustained any injuries and did not seek medical assistance. The contact was able to release the vehicle with the assistance of road side assistance. A police report was not filed. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light, the low oil warning light and other unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle for approximately 1 mile; however the warning message "Do Not Drive" illuminated. The contact notified the dealer of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the oil pan was fractured and needed to be replaced. The dealer repaired the oil pan and towed the vehicle to the collision shop, where it was repaired. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V295000 (SUSPENSION), which she associated with the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would follow up with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
