FUEL PUMP FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, WAS ABLE TO EXIT, BUT POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. SIMILAR EXPERIENCE TO THE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ALREADY FILED. SAME MODEL FROM PREVIOUS YEAR RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, BUT AUDI HAS NOT DONE SO FOR 2004 WHICH IT SHOULD DEFINITELY DO! OUR CAR HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES, AND THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING! ALSO HAD TO REPLACE COILS BEFORE AUDI EVENTUALLY RECALLED, BUT THEY DID NOT REFUND THE FULL. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING, DUE TO FUEL PUMP FAILURE. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS DEFECT. I THINK AUDI SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THE AUDI SHOULD RECALL THE CAR TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO OTHER AUDI OWNERS, BECAUSE IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO LOSS POWER ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD, ABNORMAL NOISE AND PROCEEDED TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000.

FUEL PUMP FAILED IN 2004 AUDI A4 3.0Q. HAD CAR FLAT BEDDED FROM ABOUT 30 MILES FROM HOME. COST OVER $500 TO REPAIR + FLATBED FEES. CAR HAD 68,000 MILES WHEN IT HAPPENED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS RIGHT AT A GAS STATION WHEN IT HAPPENED, SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF HIGHWAY AND OUT OF TRAFFIC SAFELY. I SEE MANY MANY STORIES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. ON FEBRUARY 20TH I WAS PUTTING SOME ITEMS IN CAR.. I STARTED MY CAR TO GET IT WARM IT WAS VERY COLD OUTSIDE. FOR TEN TO 15 MINUTES THE CAR SAT AND WAS IDLING. I CAME INSIDE TO GET LAST FEW ITEMS TO LOAD INTO VEHICLE. I OPENED BACK PASSENGER DOOR WHEN A LOUD SOUND AS IF A GUNSHOT WENT OFF. TO MY SURPRISE THE FRONT AIRBAG DEPLOYED SMOKE AND DEBRIS THROUGH OUT ME AND MY CAR.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR ASSURANCE COMFORT TREAD TIRES (NA). WHILE THE CONTACT WAS EXAMINING HER VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TREAD WAS SEPARATING FROM THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE TIRE DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS ALIGNMENT FAILURE. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND TIRE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.

I OWN A 2004 AUDI A4 3.0 QUATTRO WITH PIRELLI P6 4SEASONS P235/34R17 TIRES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE STORE TO GET THE TIRES BALANCED BECAUSE THEY WERE VIBRATING. THE FIRESTONE STORE EMPLOYEE SHOWED ME THE TIRES LATER ON BECAUSE HE BELIEVED THESE WERE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. A TOTAL OF THREE OF THE TIRES SHOWED SOME TYPE OF DEFECT: ONE OF THE TIRES (FRONT LEFT) HAS A BIG BUBBLE IN THE CENTER OF THE TIRE, THE OTHER TWO TIRES (BOTH ARE REAR) ARE COMING APART IN THE INSIDE WALL (I CAN PROVIDE A PICTURES OF THE TIRES--THE DEFECTED TIRE WITH THE BUBBLE CAN NOT BE NOTICED UNLESS THE TIRE IS PLACED ON THE BALANCED MACHINE). BOTH REAR TIRES ARE ACTUALLY COMING APART IN THE SAME PATTERN. I STARTED RESEARCHING ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND IT APPEARS THAT THESE TIRES WERE COLLECTED AMONG OTHER ELEVEN TIRES (TWELVE TOTAL MODELS) A COLLECTION SITE IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA ON OR ABOUT 2004 TO CONDUCT A STUDY. I BROUGHT MY 2004 AUDI A4 TO JACK DANIELS MOTORS IN MARCH OF 2007 TO GET NEW TIRES. THEY OF COURSE SUGGESTED PIRELLI TIRES AND REALLY DIDN'T OFFER ME ANY OTHER CHOICES. SO I SPENT $826.21 FOR NEW PIRELLI IN MARCH, 2007. WELL NOW IT'S NOVEMBER OF 2007 AND I BROUGHT MY AUDI BACK TO THEM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TIRES HAD TO BE CHANGED BECAUSE THEY LOST THE THREADS AND WERE GONG BALD. WHEN I TOLD THEM I JUST PUT THE TIRES ON EIGHT (8) MONTHS AGO AND WEREN'T THEY WARRANTED, THEY TOLD ME THEY WEREN'T. WHY WOULD AUDI PUT ON TIRES THAT DIDN'T COME WITH A WARRANTY???? I CALLED PIRELLI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. . I HAVE HAD MY TIRES REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ON ESPECIALLY WITH THE WINTER MONTHS UPON ME. I DID NOT GET TIRES FROM THEM, I BOUGHT TIRES THAT HAD A WARRANTY FROM AN TIRE DEALER AND THEY WEREN'T PIRELLI. AS AN OWNER OF A 2004 AUDI A4 W/ PIRELLI P6 FOUR SEASON 17" TIRES HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED NOT WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE BUT THE TIRES. ALL OF THE FAILURES HAVE BEEN UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 18,300 MILES ON 3/16/06. THE TIRES IN ALL FAILURES HAVE DEVELOPED BUBBLES ON THE SIDE WALLS AND/OR HAVE BLOWN OUT WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY NO INJURIES TO ANYBODY HAS OCCURRED DURING EACH INCIDENT AND THE TIRES EACH TIME HAD TO BE REPLACED AT $145.00 A TIRE. I FILED A COMPLAINT W/ BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU (BBB) TO RECEIVE SOME TYPE OF COMPENSATION AND PIRELLI DID INDEED MAIL A CHECK FOR A DISCLOSED AMOUNT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO A LACK OF LUBRICATION AND AN INTERNAL COMPRESSION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE ENGINE WAS REBUILT. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCES THE FAILURE WITH THE SPORADIC ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED HE PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AS A MULTI-CYLINDER MISFIRE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2004 AUDI A4 AT ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR JERKED, SHE THEN PULLED UP TO THE STOP LIGHT AND STOPPED. THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT START. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. WE PUSHED THE CAR OUT OF THE LANE OF TRAFFIC. A FEW HOURS LATER WE WENT BACK TO THE CAR AND IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEM, WE DROVE THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. ONE DAY THE LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON, BROUGHT IT TO CAROUSOL AUDI IN GOLDEN VALLEY MN AND THEY INFORMED ME ABOUT THE OIL SLUDGE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME TO GET MY OIL RECEIPTS READY. I CHANGED MY OWN OIL AND DON'T HAVE MY OIL RECEIPTS AND AM NOW BEING DENIED A WARRANTY COVERAGE. I HAVE OWNED MY 2004 AUDI A4 1.8T QUATTRO FOR FOUR YEARS. THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING IS A MASSIVE ISSUE THAT HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OTHER B6 PLATFORM OWNERS ALSO HAVE, THE WATER PUMP IN OUR VEHICLES IS VERY PRONE TO FAILURE. THE WATER PUMP FOUND IN OUR US MARKET VEHICLES HAS A PLASTIC IMPELLER THAT IS KNOWN TO SNAP, CRACK, OR LEAK CAUSING THE PART TO FAIL. I HAVE HAD TWO OF THESE PUMPS FAIL IN THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE FIRST ONE FAILED AT AROUND 74K IN JULY OF 2008 WHEN THE PART WAS NEARING IT'S REPLACEMENT DATE. THE SECOND FAILURE OCCURRED IN JANUARY 2010 AT ROUGHLY 98K MILES. SO I HAVE HAD TWO FAILURES IN A VERY SHORT TIME PERIOD. NOW AUDI IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS BUT HAS NEVER HAD A RECALL OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGES THAT IT IS THEIR FAULT FOR RELEASING A POORLY DESIGNED PART. WHEN A PUMP FAILS IT USUALLY GOES VERY QUICKLY. IN MY CASE IT LEAKED AND THEN I LOST AC COMPRESSION. I AM LUCKY THAT I KNOW CARS AND KNEW TO IMMEDIATELY PARK THE CAR AND GET IT INTO THE SHOP. I KNOW THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIGNIFICANT ENGINE DAMAGE BECAUSE THE FAILED PUMP CAUSED OVERHEATING. THE PUMP IS ALSO PART OF THE WHOLE SYSTEM THAT DRIVES THE TIMING BELT SO A FAILURE COULD ALSO CAUSE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE IF THAT BELT SEIZES UP. OVERALL IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND EACH TIME A PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THE ENTIRE TIMING BELT SERVICE NEEDS TO BE PERFORMED WHICH RUNS ABOUT $1700.00 AT A DEALERSHIP AND AROUND $800-$1500 AT INDEPENDENT SHOPS. I FEEL THAT THIS IS VERY UNFAIR TO US AS OWNERS, BUT THAT IT ALSO PUTS THE PUBLIC AT GREAT RISK IF A FAILURE OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR IN TRAFFIC. LIVES ARE ALREADY AT RISK ENOUGH ON OUR HIGHWAYS AND THE LAST THING THAT I WANT TO DO IS CAUSE BODILY HARM OR PROPERTY DAMAGE BECAUSE A COMPANY RELEASED A POORLY DESIGNED PART AND DID NOTHING TO IMPROVE IT. The contact owns a 2004 Audi A4. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the rear windshield became detached from the soft top. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

MY VEHICLE IS A 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET WITH A 1.8T ENGINE. WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOP WORKING. WHILE DRIVING ON THE PA TURNPIKE IN THE RAIN MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS LUCKY IT WASN'T AT NIGHT BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE LANES IN THE ROAD OR OTHER CARS IN FRONT OF ME. I PULLED OVER AND WAITED FOR THE RAIN TO STOP. WHEN I CONTACTED THE AUDI DEALERSHIP TO ASK WHAT THEY THOUGHT IT COULD BE I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION BECOMING CORRODED WITH RUST AND BEING UNABLE TO MOVE. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND THEY HAD JUST FINISHED REPAIRING ONE THIS WEEK (SOUTHHILLS AUDI, PITTSBURGH PA) I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INSPECTED AND 2 WEEKS LATER AFTER THE INSPECTION WAS TOLD THAT THE WIPERS HAVE DEFINITELY STOPPED WORKING BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION. I WAS QUOTED 600 DOLLARS TO FIX AND LEFT TO DRIVE HOME SINCE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS. *KB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE WIPER MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE HAS SINCE RECURRED TWICE. DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW AND RIGHT REAR PASSENGER WINDOW FAIL TO OPERATE FROM DRIVERS POSITION. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS FAULTY, THEY REPLACED IT AND IT. THEY SAID THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WASN'T WORKING BECAUSE THE SAFETY LOCK WAS ON. PICKED UP VEHICLE AFTER THE SERVICE DEPT. GAS PEDAL BECAME STUCK WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. NOT SURE EXACTLY HOW THIS OCCURRED, BUT IT APPEARED THAT THE PEDAL ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN. I SENT AN EMAIL TO AUDI TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY INCIDENCES SIMILAR TO THIS. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 12, 2016.

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT, MY 2004 AUDI A4 1.8 CABRIOLET SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I WAS ABLE TO SHUT IT DOWN AND CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT INTERFERING WITH THE GAS PEDAL. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE TO MY NEXT LOCATION WITHOUT INCIDENT. HOWEVER, AFTER LEAVING MY NEXT LOCATION AND PULLING OUT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AGAIN AND WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE MORE I APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE MORE THE ENGINE RACED. AFRAID OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND TURN OFF THE CAR. THIS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME ABOUT A YEAR AGO, BUT I ASSUMED IT WAS THE CAR MAT BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN UNTIL FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR. AFTER BEING MADE AWARE OF THE TOYOTA PROBLEM, I DECIDED TO RESEARCH A BIT AND HAVE DISCOVERED MINE IS NOT AN ISOLATED AUDI PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING OUR 2004 AUDI A4 ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. MOVED INTO THE LEFT HAND LANE AND ACCELERATED TO 35 MPH TO PASS A CAR AND WHEN RELEASING MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL, THE GAS PEDAL CONTINUED TO DEPRESS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR ON ITS OWN AND THE CAR ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. I COULD NOT PRY THE GAS PEDAL FROM THE FLOOR AND COULD ONLY SLAM ON THE BREAKS TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN. THE CAR ACCELERATED FOR A TOTAL OF 15-20 SECONDS. NOTHING WAS PHYSICALLY CAUSING THE GAS PEDAL TO STICK TO THE FLOOR SUCH AS THE MAT OR OTHER OBSTRUCTION. WAS ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. WILL NO LONGER DRIVE MY CAR FOR FEAR IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I HAVE TWO YOUNG KIDS THAT WERE IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. HAVE READ ABOUT SIMILAR ISSUES WITH OTHER PEOPLES AUDI?S ON THIS SITE. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS, WE HAVE LOST CONTROL OF ACCELERATION IN OUR 2004 A4. I HAVE PRESSED MY ACCELERATOR TO PASS ON A HIGHWAY AND THE ACCELERATOR CONTINUES TO GO DOWN INCREASING SPEED OF CAR AGAINST MY WILL....ON FIRST TWO OCCASIONS I WAS ABLE TO PUMP BREAKS AND KICK GAS PEDAL FOR RELEASE (AND ASSUMED IT WAS A MAT ISSUE, HOWEVER I STARTED TO QUESTION THAT ISSUE ON THE SECOND OCCASION AFTER INSPECTION OF MY MAT AND I ALSO FELT LIKE THE PEDAL PRESSED AWAY FROM MY FOOT ALL ITS OWN, LIKE ON CRUISE CONTROL EVEN THOUGHT MY CC WAS NOT ON)....HOWEVER TONIGHT MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT, SINCE I HAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PROBLEM I KNEW TO FLIP IT INTO NEUTRAL...HOWEVER ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT HIGH RPMS ONCE WE GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED CAR OFF AND ON...STILL REV'D UP. FINALLY ON THE SECOND TIME TURNING CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN WE PROCEEDED HOME AND CAR DROVE FINE. THIS IS THE CAR I DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN AND I HAVE COME ACROSS MANY SIMILAR INCIDENCE ONLINE WHICH IS HOW I FOUND THIS SITE...I WANT TO GET RID OF CAR BUT HAVE RESERVATIONS ABOUT SELLING IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. 1. ON NOVEMBER 4TH, I TRAVELED EARLY IN THE DAY FROM PITTSBURGH TO ALTOONA, PA USING MY CRUISE CONTROL OFTEN ON THE HIGHWAYS AND ROADS. I RETURNED TO PITTSBURGH AFTER WORK AND I PICKED UP MY DAUGHTER AT SCHOOL AROUND 5 PM. WE DROVE AND WENT TO DINNER. WE DROVE AND ATTENDED AN EVENT AT 7:30 PM. 2. FOLLOWING THE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS EVENT AROUND 9:00 PM, WE DROVE SEVERAL MILES TO OUR HOME. AS WE WERE LEAVING DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH, AND ONE MILE FROM OUR HOME, THE CAR'S ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMAINED DOWN ON ITS OWN, PUSHING THE CAR FORWARD. I STOOD ON THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR AS WE CAME TO A STOP LIGHT. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMAINED IN THE DOWN POSITION WITH THE CAR ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I ONCE AGAIN STOPPED THE CAR BY STANDING ON THE BRAKE. I THEN TRIED TO LIFT THE PEDAL PHYSICALLY WITH MY HAND AND FOOT, BELIEVING THAT WOULD HELP. I ALSO TRIED MOVING THE MAT. THE CAR HAD BEEN INSPECTED TWO WEEKS EARLIER AND THE MAT LOCK WAS NOT PUT BACK ON. THE CAR WAS MOVING ON ITS OWN. I STOPPED THE CAR BY STANDING ON THE BRAKE, PUT IT IN PARK AND THE ENGINE REVVED VERY HIGH AND I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN THE NEARLY 2 YEAR HISTORY OF OWNING THE CAR. FOR ONE MILE, THE CAR'S ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. 3. IN THE MORNING, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES THE CAR AND HAD CONDUCTED THE INSPECTION TWO WEEKS EARLIER. I USED MY AAA SERVICE TO TOW THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER DID START THE CAR AND THE PEDAL WAS NO LONGER STUCK. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE EVENT AND RETURNED MY CAR IN ONE WEEK STATING THEY HAD OPENED A FILE, CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THAT I COULD COME AND TAKE MY CAR BACK AND DRIVE IT. IT APPEARED THEY DROVE IT 35 MILES IN THAT TIME PERIOD. I AM DRIVING THE CAR AND I HAVE NOT USED MY CRUISE CONTROL. I REMAIN CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND MY COMMUNITY. I FIRST HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POP ON MY 04 AUDI A4 CVT THE CODE NUMBER 17090, THEN FLASHING PNDR INDICATOR LIGHTS. AFTER DOING MANY HOURS OF RESEARCH AND HEARING OTHER STORIES ABOUT AUDI CVT ISSUES, I CAME TO A CONCLUSION THAT THE ISSUE LIES WITHIN THE TCM (TRANSMISSION COMPUTER) AND HAS A FAULTY PART THAT GOES BAD. I DID NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE SO I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR, CAUTION THIS FAILURE WILL CAUSE LOSS OF REVERSE AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT AND SOMETIMES DRIVE. I DID HAVE A CLOSE CALL WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND THE CAR STOPPED MOVING, ALL OF A SUDDEN I DIDN'T HAVE REVERSE AND THE CAR THAT WAS DOWN THE ROAD WASN'T WANTING TO SLOW DOWN, HE DID END UP STOPPING FOR ME BUT WAS PISSED OFF, AND I WAS TOO, NO REASON FOR A 40,000 MILE CAR TO HAVE ISSUES LIKE THIS. AUDI QUOTES THIS REPAIR AT $2500. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY SINGLE AUDI PRODUCED IN THAT SAME TIME PERIOD WITH A CVT TRANSMISSION HAS THIS ISSUE AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED SO THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COSTS. 2004 AUDI A4 1.8L TURBO - THE CAR SUFFERS FROM A PROBLEM THAT BEGINS WITH A FLASHING OF THE GEAR SELECTOR RANGE (PRNDS). THIS OCCURS CONSISTENTLY, EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED. WHEN PRNDS IS FLASHING THE VEHICLE POSSESSES A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT HAS OCCURRED (3) TIMES SINCE THE ONSET OF THIS CONDITION. WHILE THE GEAR SELECTOR RANGE WAS FLASHING I PULLED OVER TO RE-FUEL AT A LOCAL GAS STATION. AFTER PURCHASING GAS I RETURNED TO THE CAR, STARTED IT UP, AND THE FLASHING PRNDS CONDITION PERSISTED. WHEN I ENGAGED REVERSE TO EXIT THE GAS PUMP AREA THE CAR VERY SUDDENLY LUNGED BACKWARDS WITH SUCH TREMENDOUS FORCE THAT THE VEHICLE BREAK SYSTEM COULD NOT CONTAIN THE JOLTING FORCE OF THE BACKWARDS MOVEMENT. IF ANYONE HAD BEEN STANDING BEHIND ME......THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE MADE EFFORTS TO CONTACT THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER (AUDI OF AMERICA) AND THEY FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE.... AT AROUND 55,000 MILES, WARRANTY OVER AT 50,000, MY FRIEND (HE OWNS A FOREIGN AUTO REPAIR SHOP IN SEATTLE) NOTICED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS A LITTLE JUMPY. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN DOING THIS EARLIER BUT I DID NOT NOTICE IT BECAUSE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THEY NEVER KNOW ANYTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR UNTIL IT FALLS PART. MY NEAREST AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WAS 45 MINUTES AWAY AND I NEED THE VEHICLE FOR DELIVERIES AND PICKUPS IN MY BUSINESS SO I WAITED UNTIL IT GOT WORSE. AT APPROX 65,000 MILES I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER ($99) WHO STATED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS GOING TO FAIL TO THE TUNE OF $ 6500. I CALLED AUDI, THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL I SEE AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THAT COST ME $ 115 TO TELL ME THE SAME THING AND THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME $ 8500. I ASKED WHY IT IS FAILING SO EARLY, HE COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER. IT'S "ONE" OF THOSE THINGS! ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT IT AND HE SAID "NO". 2004 AUDI A4 WITH INTERMITTENT FUEL PUMP FAILURE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE CAR WOULD STOP RUNNING WHILE DRIVING AND THEN RESTART AFTER SOME TIME. THE LATEST EVENT OCCURRED AT THE AIRPORT AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS NOT OPERATING RESULTING IN $800 IN REPAIRS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND APPEARS TO BE A LARGER PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. A RECALL OF THE 2002-2003 DID NOT CAPTURE THESE OTHER VEHICLES WHICH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MY 2004 AUDI A4 STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHILE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A LEFT TURN INTO ANOTHER STREET. I WAS STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS BUSY STREET FOR ALMOST AN HOUR UNTIL A TOW TRUCK COULD ARRIVE FROM THE AUDI DEALER. AN OFFICER FROM THE CHARLOTTE, N.C. POLICE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND DIRECTED VEHICLES TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE POLICE AND OTHER MOTORISTS HELPED DIRECT TRAFFIC AROUND MY VEHICLE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT, AS IT WAS RAINING AND FOGGY AT THE TIME OF THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS DETERMINED TO HAVE A FUEL PUMP FAILURE BY AUDI OF CHARLOTTE, AND THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT A CHARGE OF $869.18. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2003 AUDI A4 MODELS FOR FUEL PUMP FAILURES. *TR

OIL DIPSTICK & SUPPORT TUBE, MADE OF PLASTIC, CRACKS - BRAKES INTO PIECES , BOTH ON THE DIPSTICK & TUBE THAT CAN EASILY GO DOWN THE TUBE INTO THE OIL BELOW. LOOKS LIKE A POOR ENGINEERING DECISION TO USE PLASTIC THAT AFTER YEARS OF HEATING TO NEAR ENGIND TEMPATURES THEN COOLING HAS A HIGH PROBABILITY OF CRANCKIN AND HAVING PIECES FALL INTO THE ENGINE OIL SUPPLY - POSSIBALLY CAUSING ENGIND DAMAGE OR FALIURE. SHOULD BE REPLACED EVERY 5 YEARS OR WITH A METAL STRUCTURE THAT DOESN'T CRACK/BREAK OFF INTO PIECES. I WOULD THINK FROM THE YOUTUBE COMPLAINTS ON HOW TO REPLACE IT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROIBLEM. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE OIL PRESSURE WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN OIL CHANGE WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. CALLED MECHANIC , HE STOP BY MY HOUSE AND CHECK PRESSURE IN THE COOLING SYSTEM USING SPECIAL PUMP , EVERYTHING LOOKS OK BUT AFTER TAKING OUT 2 CYLINDER IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUG HE NOTICED A LIQUID IN CYLINDER 2 AND TOLD ME THAT HEAD GASKET IS PROBABLY BROKEN AND HAS TO BE CHANGE ?!?!? I WAS DRIVING MY AUDI A4 2004 DOWN A SLIGHT SLOPE AND HAD TO STOP AT THE RED LIGHT JUST BEFORE CROSSING A MAJOR HIGHWAY (VA 123). AS I SAW THE RED LIGHT, I TRIED TO PRESS ON THE BREAKS AND AROUND THE SAME TIME, I REALIZED THAT THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AS IF IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL. HOWEVER, THE CAR DID NOT STALL AND THE BREAK WAS ROCK HARD. I COULDN'T APPLY THE BREAKS. I LOWERED THE GEAR AND USED THE HAND BREAK TO STOP THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE AUDI DEALER. BEEN A NOT SO PROUD OWNER OF A AUDI A4 2004 , AND HAVING A NUMBER OF DOCUMENTS ISSUES WITH MY CALL AND RECEIVING POOR SERVICE FROM MY LOCAL DEALER. WHEN ENGINE IS UNDER LOAD WITH A FAULTY FUEL PUMP, THE ENGINE WILL STALL WHILST MOVING WITHOUT TURNING MOTOR OFF. ONLY REMEDY IS TO TURN ENGINE OFF AND ON, SINCE THE FUEL PUMP WILL NOT START ITSELF BACK ON AFTER THE STALL.

I WAS SO EXCITED TO BUY THIS AUDI USED 4 YRS AGO WITH 80,000 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN THE MOST COSTLY AND THE MOST UNSAFE VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED...STALLING OUT WAS NOT FUN AND VERY SCARY. AUDI DEALERSHIPS HAVE BEEN TRAINED WELL TO DENY OWNING UP TO THE CAR'S DEFECTS. IS AUDI WAITING FOR AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN AND PEOPLE/CHILDREN DIE? I BEGAN TO NOTICE A RATTLE IN THE RIGHT FRONT WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP. IT SEEMED TO COME FROM THE SUSPENSION. AT THE SAME TIME I NOTICED A SLIGHT THUMP IN THE STEERING WHEN STATIONARY AND SLIGHTLY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. AS THE RATTLE WAS GETTING WORSE, I TOOK THE CAR IN TO GET IT CHECKED. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE STEERING RACK HAD LOOSENED AT ONE END. IT WAS TORQUED DOWN AND LOCK-TIGHT PUT ON THE BOLT. I AM FEARFUL OF WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED HAD THE RACK FAILED ENTIRELY. AUDI JACK CAME WITH MY 2004 AUDI A4 QUATTRO SEDAN BROKE WHILE PUTTING A WHEEL. I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT SO THE SURFACE IS FLAT. I USE THE USE THE JACK THAT CAME WITH MY CAR TO JACK UP THE CAR SO THAT I CAN REPLACE MY WHEEL. THE JACK BROKE AS I WAS PUTTING ON THE WHEEL TRYING TO ALIGN THE HOLES TO PUT BACK THE BOLTS. THE JACK JUST SNAPPED LUCKILY MY FINGERS AND HAND DID NOT GET CAUGHT AND I WAS NOT UNDER THE CAR. THE JACK WAS BROKE TODAY AUGUST 5, 2005 AT AROUND 4:00PM PACIFIC TIME. I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP 10 MINUTES TO 5:00PM AND THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT ALL THE TECHNICIAN HAVE GONE HOME FOR THE DAY AND THEY ASK ME TO CONTACT AUDI USA. I CANNOT REACH AUDI USA BECAUSE THEY HAVE CLOSE FOR THE DAY. I WILL TRY TO CONTACT THEM ON MONDAY. THE POINT TO MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE JACK IS UNSAFE. This took place about a week ago. The car was parked in our driveway when the fire started. My husband had returned home just 15 minutes prior to the fire starting. I noticed there was smoke coming in our living room window. Then I looked at our security camas. And saw smoke pouring out from underneath the hood of my car. We tried to put the fire out with our two hose system set up and it wouldn't go out. So we knew it was electrical. We couldn't get close enough to open the hood so I couldn't pour baking soda on it. Two fire extinguishers later like 10 minutes the firefighters showed up and we're able to put it out. They confirmed that the arch came from the battery terminals /cables. Two of the fireman said they'd never seen anything like this before. Then the car tried to START ITSELF as my husband and the two fireman were standing right in front of the Audi. They had to cut the remaining battery cable that wasn't completely burned through before it stopped. My neighbor has a recording of the whole incident. The engine compartment is destroyed! The engine might be all right but we don't have the finances to do anything but clean up. Oh and for extra fun one of the fireman took an ax the the hood of the A4 cabriolet I have had for maybe a month. Now we have no car and no real means of being able to fix it.

PRNDS appeared in red on my dash and then started blinking. Went on line regarding this and read about a TCM switch or a lever switch malfunction.Have an appt with mechanic on 8/26/21. From what I have read we are looking at a cost prohibitive repair of several thousands of dollars. Does Audi have any responsibility? Apparently it is a common complaint with the A4 model. Felt loss of power when decelerating.

REAR WINDOW OF CONVERTIBLE SOFT TOP FOR 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET. AN OLD ISSUE OFTEN SUFFERED BY AUDI CABRIOLETS FROM 2003-2009. CLAIMED TO BE CAUSED BY THE ADHESIVE THAT AUDI USES. THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY KEEPING THE CAR OUTSIDE INSTEAD OF IN A GARAGE AS PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT CAUSES THE ADHESIVE TO GIVE AWAY AND FAIL, CAUSING THE REAR WINDOW TO SEPARATE FROM THE OUTER LAYER OF THE TOP AND DROP. WHILE THE WINDOW IS STILL TECHNICALLY ATTACHED TO THE INNER LAYER OF THE TOP, THE WINDOW NO LONGER PROTECTS AGAINST WATER. AS A RESULT RAIN CAN SEEP INTO THE NON WATER RESISTANT INNER LAYER OF THE TOP AND THEN CAUSE WATER DAMAGE TO THE REAR SEATS. THIS IS THE CASE WITH MY OWN CAR AND WITH A LARGE ENOUGH NUMBER OF CABRIOLETS THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SETTLED FRANKLY, A GOOD 10 YEARS AGO WHEN THE FIRST CASES WERE BEING NOTICED. I HAVE AS MANY OTHERS HAVE, ATTEMPTED TO USE A TEMPORARY FIX AND AS A RESULT, THERE IS A CLEAR INDUSTRIAL ADHESIVE AROUND THE TOP AND REAR WINDOW TO ATTEMPT TO FIX THIS, IT FAILS WITH CONTINUED USE.

WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY FOR A FEW HOURS DURING WHICH CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, AND CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER JUST AFTER I GOT OFF FREEWAY AND APPROACHED A MOUNTAIN ROAD INCLINE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT, OR PRIOR SYMPTOMS TO ENGINE FAILURE, IT JUST STOPPED. WITH HELP, I WAS ABLE TO GET CAR OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND TO SAFETY. TRIED TO TROUBLESHOOT, USED ENGINE ERROR CODE READER, AND NO FAULT CODES FOUND. PERFORMED BASICS CHECKED FOR POTENTIAL FUEL VAPOR LOCK DUE TO ALTITUDE; CHECKED OIL, COOLANT AND FUEL LEVELS- AND ALL LEVELS WERE OK. BATTERY WAS FUNCTIONING - AS RADIO, LIGHTS WORKED. CAR HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY SERVICED AND MAINTENANCE WAS CURRENT. CAR WAS TOWED TO NEAREST DEALER, DIAGNOSIS BY DEALER FUEL PUMP FAILURE DUE TO CLOGGED FUEL FILTER. MY ISSUE IS THAT AUDI DOES NOT INDICATE SERVICE MAINTENANCE FOR FUEL FILTER. THERE IS NOT ANY MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS OR GUIDANCE IN EITHER THE OWNER'S MANUAL OR PUBLISHED LIST OF RECOMMENDED SERVICES TO REPLACE OR CHECK FILER. THERE ALSO WERE NOT ANY WARNING LIGHTS, FAULT CODES OR INDICATIONS TO WATCH FOR. I FEEL THAT IT IS NEGLIGENT OF THE MANUFACTURER TO NOT INDICATE ANY SERVICE INTERVAL TO CHANGE FUEL FILTER IN ORDER TO PREVENT FUEL PUMP FAILURE, AND TO ENSURE THE SAFE OPERATING CONDITIONS OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR LOST POWER ON A WINDING MOUNTAIN ROAD AND PUT ME AT DANGER WITHOUT WARNING. I AM CURIOUS IF THIS FUEL PUMP INCIDENT COULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH KNOWN FUEL PUMP ISSUES, NHTSA #PE08027. I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 AUDI A4 (1.8, CONVERTIBLE) ON A LOCAL ROAD AT APPROX 30MPH, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR SUDDENLY DROPPED FROM UNDER MY FOOT AND THE CAR ACCELERATED VERY RAPIDLY. IT FELT LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD COME ON BY ITSELF (THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS COMPLETELY OFF AT THE TIME). I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PULLED OVER. WHEN I SHUT THE CAR OFF, THE GAS PEDAL POPPED UP AND FELT NORMAL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND A RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED FOR THE FUEL PUMP. TWO YEARS LATER, WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 50 MPH, SHE HEARD A LOUD WINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND REAR WINDOW REGULATOR CABLE FAILED. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE AT THE COST OF $1,458.33. LATER, THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED IN 2006 AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER A SECOND REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THE REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V017000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 52,000.

2004 AUDI A4 HAS HAD SEVERAL REPAIR PROBLEMS. CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE PROBLEMS. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OVER. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS A BULB. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP WOULD NOT GO DOWN. I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2004 AUDI A4AVANTQUATTRO 1.8. ON JULY 1, WITH 2389 MILES ON THE CAR, I HAD A BLOWOUT OF MY RIGHT REAR TIRE, WHICH IS A GOODYEAR M&S R235/17 LOW PROFILE HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRE. I NEVER HAD A SENSATION OF HITTING ANYTHING ON THE ROAD, BUT HAD ONLY SECONDS TO GET FROM THE FAST LANE OF I-5 IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO, CA ACROSS 5 LANES OF FREEWAY TRAFFIC AND AROUND A CALTRANS MAINTENENCE CREW ON THE SHOULDER, TO SAFETY. BY THE TIME I DID, THE TIRE TREAD HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE WHEEL 360 DEGREES. SIX DAYS LATER, WHILE HAVING THE TIRE REPLACED AT A LOCAL TIRE STORE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AT MY NEXT OPPORTUNITY, WITH NOW 2750 MILES ON THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FILLER HOSE TO THE GAS TANK WAS PUNCTURED, REQUIRING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE GAS TANK, AS IT IS ALL ONE PEICE, THAT THE WIRES CONNECTING THE FUEL SYSTEM TO THE CENTRAL COMPUTER WERE DAMAGED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, THAT A HOLE IN THE SHEATH AROUND THE SHOCK ABSORBER ON THAT WHEEL HAD BEEN PUNCTURED, REQUIRING POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE SHOCK, AND THAT THE ENTIRE WHEEL LINER ON THAT WHEEL WAS GONE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE ESTIMATED COST FOR THIS IS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN $1600-2000. NEITHER AUDI, NOR THE DEALERSHIP, THUS FAR HAS TAKEN ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DESIGN FLAWS THAT CREATED THE POSSIBILITY FOR SUCH DAMAGE FROM A FLAT TIRE. I FREQUENTLY DRIVE ALONE, AND WE LIVE IN A HIGH FIRE DANGER AREA. I WAS DRIVING AROUND WITH A LEAKY GAS TANK FOR 5 DAYS BEFORE THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT EVEN WENT ON, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT A FAULTY SHOCK ABSORBER COULD HAVE CAUSED MY ALL WHEEL DRIVE TO FAIL.
