The electronic steering system on my Audi A6 failed without warning, locking my steering wheel in place. A review of on line message boards for Audi owners indicates this is a systemic problem, and has, for some owners, actually locked their steering while driving. This did not happen to me, but prior to locking, my car instantly transitioned from steering with no issues to almost becoming undrivable before I could get to a repair shop.

Audi sent a notice in June 2021 regarding the issuance of a limited extended warranty coverage for Electromechanical Steering Unit for certain 2011-2016 model year A4, A4 Allroad, A5, S5, RS5, Q5, SQ5, A6, S6, A7, RS7, A8, and S8 vehicles. The letter stated that "Audi has determined that it is possible for the Electromechanical steering unit to malfunction in some vehicles, causing the electromechanical steering warning lamp in the instrument cluster to illuminate due to the presence of specific fault codes resulting from this malfunction." The letter provided consumers with repairs under warranty, but was unclear about requiring the repairs to be completed at an Audi authorized facility. The letter implies that the issue is the illumination of the warning lamp on the instrument panel, but fails to warn consumers of the actual impact to the usability of the vehicle when the fault is triggered. I experienced first hand that the illumination of the light renders the car inoperable as the power steering mechanism no longer works and the vehicle is nearly impossible to steer and control. The warning also directs the driver to drive to the nearest Audi repair center, which is not feasible given the difficulties to steer. The nearest facility was also 15 miles away. After attempting to drive home, the instrument panel warned me to stop driving the car. In less than 1/2 mile the instruction on the panel went from drive to nearest facility to stop driving. The warning for this fault and subsequent loss of steering happens instantaneously. The driver is unable to do much, but to safely pull over into an area that the car can be towed from. Moreover, I repaired the vehicle at a local dealership and Audi refuses to reimburse me as their forms lead me to believe it would be. Audi should have issued a recall to correct a problem that they were aware poses a significant safety concern instead of extended warranty with stipulations carved out. Please help me make this right.

RECEIVED STEERING MALFUNCTION - DO NOT DRIVE WARNING ON DASH. LOST POWER STEERING ON THE CAR WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. WAS BARELY ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE AUDI DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THIS WOULD BE A $5100 REPAIR. BASICALLY REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING RACK. THE CAR ONLY HAS 49K MILES ON IT AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. AT THIS TIME, AUDI AND DEALER ARE ONLY REDUCING THE COST TO $3000. I READ IN FORUMS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING AND WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO STEER THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT APPEARS THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST ON SEVERAL AUDI'S. A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM TO HAVE AND NOT BEING DEALT WITH APPROPRIATELY.

ON 12/3/19 OUR CAR WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED AUDI DEALER FOR HAVING THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON INDICATING A SAFETY ISSUE. THE AUDI TECH #293N FOUND THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION CONTROL MODULE FAULTY AND OFFERED TO REPLACE THIS PART FOR $1,172.60. THERE IS A RECALL FOR A6 MODEL YEARS, HOWEVER OUR CAR IS NOT INCLUDED, YET OUR PODS CONTROL MODULE HAS FAILED. WE HAVE SPOKEN WITH AUDI SUPPORT AND WAS TOLD CLEARLY THAT OUR VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR A 2014. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR FRONT SEAT PASSENGER IN OUR AUDI A 6 AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THIS CAN CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY WHEN IN A COLLISION. AUDI HAS INCORRECTLY CONCLUDED THAT ONLY MODELS WITH BASIC SEATS ARE RECALLED. HOWEVER THIS EXACT PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH OUR VEHICLE. IN THE SUMMER MONTHS, MY 2014 AUDI A6 DEVELOPS FUEL-LIKE FUMES FILLING THE CABIN AND TRUNK. THE FUMES BECOME MORE INTENSE/PRONOUNCED WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A STOP OR WHEN MOVING THROUGH TRAFFIC. SEVERAL TIMES IN 2019, MY AUDI HESITATED THEN STOPPED TWICE IN TRAFFIC. ONCE ON A CITY ROAD AND THE OTHER TIME ON THE LEFT LANE OF A HIGHWAY. AUDI SERVICE DIAGNOSED A GAS PUMP ISSUE. I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding persistent mechanical failures and safety concerns with my 2014 Audi A6, VIN: [XXX] , which have resulted in significant repair expenses, inconvenience, and potential safety hazards. Despite having the front brakes and sensors replaced in the previous year, I recently experienced brake warning lights and related malfunctions. According to the most recent service report from Audi Bethesda (Repair Order [XXX], dated May 9, 2025), it was discovered that the incorrect brake pad sensor had previously been installed and that connectors were not properly secured. Additionally, the repair team found further issues with the ABS sensor and rear brake pad sensors—indicating an ongoing pattern of misdiagnosis and improper installation by authorized service providers. More concerning is the failure of the vehicle’s fuel system, including the fuel pump and filter, which were replaced at considerable expense. According to the repair documentation, there were still unresolved low fuel pressure faults present even after parts replacement. The technicians cited potential metal contamination in the fuel meter valve (N290), which could require full fuel system replacement—an unacceptable situation for a vehicle that has already undergone such costly repairs. A FEW TIMES WHEN SLOWLY GLIDING TO A STOP (RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN) WHEN STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT SEEMS TO GO TO THE FLOOR AND NEEDS TO BE PUMPED IN ORDER TO STOP. IT'S A SCARY SITUATION. I CANNOT MAKE IT HAPPEN. IT DIDN'T SEEM TO HAPPEN UNTIL I HAD THE BRAKE FLUID CHANGED DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT AUDI. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO DEALER WHERE THE WORK WAS DONE AND THEY SAID THAT THEY REDID THE FLUID CHANGE BUT THE PROBLEM HAS RE-OCCURRED A COUPLE OF TIMES. ALSO, IT SEEMS THAT WHEN SITTING IN THE CAR WITH IT IDLING I CAN JUST ABOUT PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR.

My car was manufactured with defective pistons. The pistons are resulting in reduced oil pressure in my engine, which can result in a sudden loss of power. I had my engine inspected, and the attached photographs depict that the original pistons that shipped with my car caused scoring to the cylinder walls which is causing metal pieces to collect in my engine. In addition, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. acknowledged that the pistons need to be repaired in my car, and quoted the repair using an updated design, so they are aware of the issue and have knowledge of it. While the defect existed during the warranty period, VWGoA refuses to repair or replace my defective engine under warranty.

AT 5PM ON JULY 20, 2016 I DROVE MY A6 TO THE HOME OF MY GRANDDAUGHTERS FRIEND, THEY ARE BOTH 15 YRS. OLD AND WERE IN THE CAR AT THE TIME, TO DROP HER OFF . I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK IT LUNGED, AT A FAST RATE, FORWARD SMASHING INTO A RAILROAD TIE RETAINING WALL AND THEN FLEW INTO REVERSE. DURING THIS ENTIRE TIME MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND THE SHIFT WAS IN PARK. AS THIS WAS HAPPENING THERE WAS ALSO A LOUD GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE CAR. SO LOUD THAT 2 NEIGHBORS CAME RUNNING OUT OF THEIR SEPARATE HOUSES. I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LEVER AND THE CAR STOPPED. IT HAD GONE BACKWARDS DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, ABOUT 10 TO 15 FEET, INTO THE STREET AND BACK OVER A CURB AT SUCH A RATE THAT THE BACK TIRE BLEW OUT. IT CAME TO A STOP ON THE LAWN JUST MISSING A TREE TRUNK BY A FOOT. THE CAR WAS TOWED BY AN AUDI DEALER AND A WEEK LATER AUDI SENT AN ENGINEER FROM AUBURN HILLS, MI TO LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND I HAVE A POLICE REPORT. THE POLICEMAN DROVE THE VEHICLE OFF THE LAWN AND HE ALSO HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. IT IS A DEATH TRAP. I BELIEVE SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH EITHER THE COMPUTER OR SOME OTHER ELECTRONIC PART. THE CAR ACTED COMPLETELY ON IT'S OWN. WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN THE CAR MADE A "CLUNK" SOUND AND I LOST ANY ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED AND I HAD NO ABILITY TO TURN THE WHEEL. I COASTED DOWN A HILL AND THE WHEEL UNLOCKED, BUT I HAD NO POWER STEERING AND STILL NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE TUCSON ARIZONA AUDI DEALER. THEY HAVE YET TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP TWICE AND TRIED TO RUN THE VEHICLE BUT CAN'T KEEP IT RUNNING FOR MORE THAN 2 MINUTES. THE CAR KEEPS "SEIZING" UP IS WHAT THE SERVICE SHOP TELLS ME. The contact owns a 2014 Audi A6. The contact stated that there was a fluid leak underneath the vehicle near the exhaust pipe, with a fuel-like odor. No warning lights were illuminated. A certified mechanic inspected the vehicle at the residence, and determined there was a leak in the fuel line. Following the advice of the mechanic, the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the fuel leak was confirmed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Audi A6. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle stalled. The Electronic Power Control System and the Check Engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a fuel leak and that the fuel injector, the coolant hose, and the water pump needed to be replaced. The contact researched and was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V781000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 181,615.

Facts: 1. My vehicle has an open safety recall that remains unrepaired, despite being serviced at Audi dealerships by prior owners. 2. The recall was never disclosed to me by the selling dealer, Roland Holmes Auto Sales, nor by the financing entity, Credit Acceptance Corporation. 3. POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I purchased a 2014 Audi A6 2.0T Quattro premium plus on November 15, 2024 with 99,141 miles. I got the 14 day dealership extended warranty, which covered powertrain systems. After 3 days of driving exactly 103 miles the oil light came on my dashboard telling me that the oil was low. I immediately brought it back to the dealership and their mechanic look at it, he said there was nothing wrong and changed the oil so it should be good now. I drove it another 3 days 136 miles this time, and the oil light came on once again. Brought it back a 2nd time to the dealership’s mechanic. After about a week, we heard back and they told us he still couldn’t find anything wrong, but agreed that for some reason, the engine is consuming oil more than it should be. At this point we go to an actual Audi dealership where they tell us that the pistons and turbo were the problem so they would have to rip apart the engine and seal everything back up. At the time we purchased the vehicle on top of the 14 day dealership warranty we also purchased an extended warranty by a company called integrity warranty LLC. Our warranty company decided that they were not going to cover the cost of the parts and labor in order to fix my Audi, because they said it was a pre-existing issue prior to us purchasing the vehicle which we had not heard of before, or even seen on the Carfax report. On February 25 I was driving at night 25 mph and I came to a red light stopped my car and began smelling a very strange smell. Saw a lot of smoke coming from the exhaust in the back, the dashboard lights began flickering, the steering wheel start to shake, and then the car just shut down. Now I am without a vehicle, the dealership will not help us, the warranty company will not help us, and I now have to purchase a new car while still making payments on the Audi that doesn’t work.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2014 Audi A6. The contact stated that he became aware that the vehicle was experiencing abnormal oil consumption. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure, but an oil consumption test was not performed on the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 65-68 MPH, the EPC and the check engine warning lights were illuminated, and the vehicle started shuddering. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there was no compression in cylinder #6. The vehicle was then towed to another independent mechanic, who determined that the engine needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 149,087.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

The vehicle defrost system stopped working due to the aluminum heater core getting clogged. The Audi maintenance does not have an interval for flushing the system on a regular basis. The vehicle only has 58,000 miles and the the failed/clogged heater core is preventing the defrost and defogging of the windshield making visibility dangerous in cold weather and sunlight.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION

I have recently purchased my 2014 Audi A6 in Honolulu at JN Autogroup. After just a couple days of driving the vehicle I have noticed that the car started to smell like gas in and out of the vehicle. The smell is very potent and very sensible throughout every second of driving and I am reporting this because this could be very hazardous and I may not know if it could catch on fire with the amount of fumes that is lingering around. To the point where as I am driving it is making me dizzy. I have researched about issues for these cars with the same year, make and model and I have read that there was a recall on the fuel line leak but i don’t know why my car wasn’t included in this recall base of the data I have pulled up on the Audi recall center. I’m not sure if it has been recalled but the problem for sure wasn’t solved with my vehicle. On the other hand, I have also noticed that the reverse camera on this vehicle goes for a split second on the dash whenever in reverse then suddenly blacks out the entire screen. I am thinking that the wiring or some kind of harness that operates the reverse camera is not done properly by the factory that causes malfunctions within the system. In conclusion, these are two of the reasons why I am completing this incident report because I feel that these are two hazardous features that is important for not just myself but the community and people that surrounds me whenever I am on the road behind the wheel. It is important for this to be resolved because the company of this vehicle advertises all these features and sells this product but there is an issue with the product and I want it to be looked upon and not swept under the rug because I am not only speaking for myself but for the many thousands and thousands of these car owners that is on the road today who are having the same issue as I do. I’d appreciate your service if this can be fixed, thank you!

GOOD AFTERNOON, FIRST I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO RECALL THE NUMBER OF CASES WHERE POLICE OFFICERS WERE GETTING CANCEROUS TUMORS IN THEIR NECKS DUE TO THE RADAR UNITS BEING MOUNTED ON THE BACK OR FRONT DASH BOARD BACK IN THE LATE 1970'S AND EARLY 1980'S. ALSO THE NUMBER OF INCIDENTS WHERE THE POLICE OFFICERS WERE GETTING TESTICULAR CANCER FROM PUTTING THE RADAR GUNS BETWEEN THEIR LEGS WHEN THEY WERE NOT USING THEM. I HAVE A RADAR WAVE DETECTION DEVICE IN MY AUTOMOBILE. WHEN I AM NEAR A LATE MODEL AUDI [ UP TO 1/8 OF A MILE] , MY DETECTION DEVICE ALERTS ME THAT A "K" BAND RADAR WAVE IS DETECTED.. THIS HAS BEEN THE THIRD TIME MY AUDI A6 3.0T HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER SINCE PURCHASING IT AS A CPO VEHICLE FOR A STEERING WHEEL JERK AND SQUEAK PROBLEM AT ANY SPEED. IT WANTS TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL (SINCE IT IS ELECTRONIC) SLIGHTLY AS WELL AS SQUEAK. I BELIEVE THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT MY DEALER HAS YET TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM AND MANY MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE. 2014 AUDI A6. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. *SMD THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THERE WAS SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE, AND WHEN SHE PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE, SMOKE FILLED THE ENTIRE GARAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AN INSPECTION REVEALED A PLASTIC BAG WAS CAUGHT IN THE VENT PIPE AND MELTED, WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE SMOKE AND SMELL COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. AS TO THE SCREECHING SOUND WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT SMALL SOUNDS WERE HEARD AND THE BRAKE PADS WERE CLEANED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUGGESTED, THE VEHICLE BE DRIVEN MORE AND THAT SHOULD SOLVE THE OXIDATION PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE MORE OFTEN. HOWEVER AS SHE PERIODICALLY SLOWED DOWN, THERE WAS A SCREECHING SOUND, EVEN LOUDER THAN EVER BEFORE. *JB
