I HAVE A 2001 AUDI TT. I BOUGHT IT THREW A DEALERSHIP OUT OF STATE ONLINE. WENT AND PICK IT UP AND WAS FINE BUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS WENT BY AND STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH INSTRUMENT PANEL NO GAS GAUGE SPEEDOMETER TEMPERATURE GAUGE OR DASH LIGHTS. THEY WILL GO OUT JUST RIDING UP THE ROAD AND DOES IT MORE SINCE ITS COLDER WEATHER SO I STARTED LOOKING IN TO THIS MATTER AND THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH AUDI AND I THINK THEY SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT AND PLUS ITS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO ME THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. *TR

AUDI TT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHOWS ABNORMAL TEMPERATURE READING, WHEN ACTUAL TEMPERATURE IS FINE (REPORTED THROUGH AIR CONDITIONING DIAGNOSTIC CODE 49C). PURCHASED A 2001 AUDI TT 225 COUPE ON OCTOBER 2000, EIGHT YEARS LATER AND ONLY 69700 MILES,TIMING BELT FAILS CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. AUGUST 2008 AUDI SENT OUT A LETTER ACKNOWLEDGING A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THE TIMING BELT BUT SINCE IT WAS NOT A RECALL I PAID ONLY A SMALL ATTENTION TO IT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 AUDI TT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE'S TIMING BELT FAILS WITHOUT NOTICE AND CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STOP. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND RECOMMENDED CHANGING THE TIMING BELT AT 65,000 MILES. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 85,000.

(1) EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF MY TIMING BELT WERE NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, IE NO SOUNDS, SMELLS, OR VISUAL DAMAGE. (2) ON 01/15/2007, MY TIMING BELT BROKE WHILE DRIVING. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE DAMAGE TO THE CYLINDER HEAD, AS WELL AS OTHER PARTS OF THE ENGINE. (3) LAST YEAR, AUDI CHANGED THE TIME/MILEAGE NEEDED IN ORDER TO CHANGE TIMING BELT FROM 106,000(AS STATED IN THE OWNER MANUAL, OF THE AUDI TT) TO 60,000-70,000, ACCORDING TO AN EMPLOYEE, I SPOKE WITH. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF ANY NOTICES; MAIL, E-MAIL, OR PHONE, WERE SENT OUT, AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS, "NO. BECAUSE MANY CUSTOMER HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH TIMING BELTS BREAKING AT AN EARLY STAGE, WE LET THEM KNOW AS THEY COME IN FOR SERVICE." I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS ON, 1/19/2007. AND ALSO CONTACTED AUDI OF AMERICA, IN WHICH, HAD ME TO PROVIDE THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE WITH MY AUTOMOBILES VIN NUMBER. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WITHOUT WARNING, AT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE TIMING BELT TENSIONER FAILED CAUSING A CYLINDER HEAD FAILURE.

I OWN A 2001 AUDI TT CONVERTIBLE WITH THE 1.8 TURBO ENGINE (180HP). ON FEBRUARY 22ND, THE TIMING BELT FAILED AND THE ENGINE WAS SEVERLY DAMAGED. THE REPAIRS COST ME $3650 ALONG WITH A RENTAL CAR BILL OF $450. SINCE MY CAR HAD 47,200 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I ATTEMPTED TO GET AUDI OF NORTH AMERICA TO PAY FOR THE REPARIS BUT THEY REFUSED. THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE MAINTAINANCE MANUAL SPECIFIES THAT THE TIMING BELT SHOULD BE CHANGE AT 120,000 MILES. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT UNIQUE TO AUDI, TO THE AUDI TT, OR TO THE 1.8 T ENGINE AS I FOUND OUT FROM THE LARGE NUMBER OF ONLINE POSTINGS BY OTHER AUDI OWNERS. *NM

WE HAVE OWNED THIS TT FOR JUST OVER A YEAR AND WE HAVE EXPERIENCED 2 VERY SERIOUS TIRE BLOWOUTS ON THE HIGHWAY THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. WE ONLY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ON WELL-MAINTAINED SURFACE ROADS AND HIGHWAYS (NO BACK-COUNTRY DRIVING, NO OFF-ROADING). ADDITIONALLY, WE WERE NOT CHANGING LANES, DID NOT HIT ANY POTHOLES, OR DOING ANY EVASIVE MANUEVERS WHEN BOTH INCIDENCES OCCURRED. WE HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCES. AS WE HAVE NOW HAD TWO CLOSE CALLS, IT HAS MADE US VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS TIRE'S SAFETY AND RELIABILITY. ALL CALLS TO AUDI DEALERSHIPS AND BRIDGESTONE RETAILERS HAVE BEEN MET WITH LITTLE SUPPORT OR DESIRE TO INVESTIGATE. ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, I HAVE SUFFERED TIRE FAILURES. AUDI CLAIMS IT IS GOODYEAR'S PROBLEM. GOODYEAR CLAIMS IT IS AUDI'S USE OF LOW ASPECT TIRES IN AN OFF ROAD VEHICLE ALTHOUGH THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD. POWER TRAIN

While driving on a city street in Ann Arbor Michigan, the manual transmission shift lever snapped off. The lever detached at the base right above the spring assembly that allows the shifter to be moved into reverse. I was stuck in third gear and had to feather the clutch and keep the revs high in order to get through a traffic light and pull into a parking garage. The part required a complete replacement (completed myself).

VEHICLE WAS SITTING FOR ABOUT 2.5 HOURS ON A VERY COLD DAY (15 DEGREES). STARTED CAR AND LET VEHICLE WARM UP. THEN I STARTED HOME. AFTER APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES ON DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH SHIFTING THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IT WAS VERY HARD TO GET THE CAR INTO ANOTHER GEAR. The contact owns a 2001 Audi TT. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle crashed into a deer causing significant damage to the front end. During the crash, neither the front driver side nor passenger side air bags were deployed. The driver sustained an injured neck and lower back which required medical treatment. The front seat passenger was not injured. The vehicle was later towed to the home. No police report was taken. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 94,000.

2001 AUDI TT, AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON. PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 2001, LIGHT CAME ON AT 15K MILES, HAD CLUSTER REPLACED TOOK CARE OF PROBLEM FOR A WEEK, BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER HAD FIXED AGAIN. LASTED ABOUT 2 WEEKS. AT 30 K MILES BROUGHT CAR BACK TO DEALER FOR RECALL OF CLUSTER, PROBLEM FIXED FOR ABOUT 500 MILES. THE CAR NOW HAS 31K MILES LIGHT IS STILL ON. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MOST EARLY AUDI TT FROM 2000 TO 2004 AND SOME AFTER. NO ONE HAS MENTIONED A VALID SOLUTION ONLY THAT THEY KEEP BRINGING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY AND ONLY HAVING A SHORT TERM FIX. MY 2001 AUDI TT ROADSTERS AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY DURING A DIRECT FRONTAL COLLISION. THE COLLISION FORCE WAS ENOUGH TO SHEAR THE ALUMINUM BUMPER REINFORCEMENT IN THE MIDDLE AS WELL AS WRAP THE RADIATOR AROUND THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN FOR REPAIRS WHICH NOW TOTAL OVER $13,000. IN EARLY 2003 I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO INVESTIGATE THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. ON THE THIRD (3RD) VISIT THEY REPLACED THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE. I AM CONCERNED THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE OF A SYSTEM FAILURE?*AK

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 AUDI TT. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH UP AN INCLINE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUTTER, THE CONTACT THEN APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ENGAGE. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VACUUM PIPE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. WE HAVE AN AUDI ALROAD VIN [XXX] WHICH WE PURCHASED NEW IN 2001. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 40,00 MILES ON IT. IT HAS NEEDED NEW BRAKE ROTORS AT APROX.25-29000 MILES AND AGAIN AT 39000 MILES, BECAUSE OF BRAKE VIBRATIONS DURING ROUTINE STOPS AT THOSE TIMES. IT NOT DRIVEN AGGRESSIVELY AND I FEEL THAT THE BRAKES FOR THIS CAR ARE NOT ADEQUATE DUE TO MANUFACTURES MISMATCHING THE BRAKES TO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS STATED THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE ROTORS FREQUENTLY FOR OTHER CLIENTS WITH THE SAME MODEL OF AUTOMOBILE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 AUDI TT QUATTRO. WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT 5 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. SHE NOTICED THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT ALIGNED WITH THE OTHER THREE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR CONTROL ARM BOLT WAS CORRODED AND FAILED, ALONG WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION COIL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V325000 (SUSPENSION:REAR). THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

MY VEHICLE HAS BE TAKEN BY A WOMAN THAT WAS FRAUDULANT TO ME BY TRADING ANOTHER PERSONS VEHICLE TO ME AND I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE IS IN THE HANDS OF A CAR THIEF WHO CLAIMED TO BE A NOTARTY, BECAUSE THE TITLE OF THE VEHICLE GIVEN TO ME WAS FRUDULANT. THE PHONE NUMBER OF THIS WOMAN IS HOW I FOUND OUT THAT SHE WAS NOT WHO SHE SAID SHE WAS. BEING THAT I FOUND OUT SHE WAS NOT THE TRUE OWNER OF THE TRADED VEHICLE. I FOUND OUT HER TRUE IDENTITY BY LOOKING UP THE DESCRIBED NAME FROM THE PHONE ID CHECK AND THEN BY FACEBOOK. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES AND IS BROUGHT TO A FULL STOP. WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THE ENGINE REMAINS AT IDLE FROM BETWEEN 1 TO 3 SECONDS AND THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. DURING THIS TIME FRAME, THE FOOT REMAINS DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AND NOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. ONCE THE ENGINE RPMS DO INCREASE, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE HARD (JUMP). SEVERAL INSTANCES HAVE OCCURRED WERE THE CAR JUMPED INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT EACH TIME. MY CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR DURING THOSE TIMES. THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT ONLY EXPERIENCE BY MYSELF, BUT WITH MY WIFE AND A FRIEND (WHO USED TO PERFORM SAFETY TESTS FOR PORSCHE) AND BOTH HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO ANOTHER DEALER THEY RESET SOMETHING AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN FOR ABOUT A YEAR. IN 2010 I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN FOR A CLUSTER RECALL, THEY REPLACED THE CLUSTER ALL WAS FINE THEN ABOUT A YEAR LATE THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE AIRBAG MODULE. SPENT $1500 TO HAVE THE AIRBAG MODULE REPLACED ( THINK THIS WAS THE ISSUE ALL ALONG). AFTER HAVING THE AIRBAG MODULE REPLACED THE SEAT BELT LIGHT NO LONGER COMES ON. WAS TOLD IT IS THE CLUSTER. THE CAR HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT THIS WILL BE THE 4TH CLUSTER IN THE CAR. THE DEALER WANTS $1500 TO REPLACE AGAIN WITH NO GUARANTEE. AUDI ACCEPTS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND WILL PAY A FEW HUNDRED TOWARDS THE REPAIR. I HAVE AN 2001 AUDI A8L AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. THIS CAR WAS SOLD TO ME GUARANTEEING A MAINTENANCE FREE TRANSMISSION. THERE IS NO WAY TO CHECK THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS CAR WITHOUT A COMPUTER ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM. I HAD MY CAR CHECKED AS RECOMMENDED BY THE DEALER, SONNONEN MOTORS, AS DIRECTED BY MY OWNERS MANUAL AND FOR ALL PROBLEMS. AT NO TIME WAS I ADVISED OF A PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND AT NO TIME DID THERE COMPUTER ANALYSIS REVEAL A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAD A MAJOR COMPUTER MALFUNCTION CAUSING THE GAS GAUGE NEEDLE TO ROTATE VIOLENTLY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND BACK AGAIN CONTINIOUSLY. CLUTHH PEDAL WHEN WET TURNS INTO A SLIPPERY SURFACE DUE TO THE METAL ON THE PEDAL CAUSING THE FOOT TO SLIP OFF. THE SEAT BELT DESIGN FOR THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGERS IS DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE SEATBELT NOT TO RETRACT. THIS CREATES THE DANGER OF THE SEAT BELT NOT WORKING AS INTENDED.

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED COOLANT AND ENGINE CHECK LIGHT ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE STARTED TO PRODUCE WHITE SMOKE FROM UNDERHOOD. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY STATED IT WAS A FAULTY HOSE IN THE COOLING SYSTEM. DEALER REPLACED HOSE, AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK

THIS MODEL CAR IS WIDELY RECOGNIZED TO EXHIBIT UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION WHEN EQUIPED WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.(SEE ALLROAD FORUM ON AUDIWORLD.COM) WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR FROM AN ALMOST STOP THE CAR SOMETIMES PAUSES FOR UP TO 2 SECONDS AND AT OTHER TIMES ACCELERATES QUICKLY. IN MY EXPERIENCE THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR. SOME OF THE CAR MAGAZINES ACTUALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND PURCHASE OF THIS CAR DUE TO THIS CHARACTERISTIC. AUDI DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM.
