If the operator inadvertently or erroneously attempts to release the park brake without first firmly applying the service brake, the park brake will subsequently engage, at any speed and likely unexpectedly to the operator.

Risk. The park brake may engage unexpectedly at any speed, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix. Autocar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the synchronization valve with one that has a lower opening pressure, free of charge. The recall began on July 8, 2015. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-765-489-5499. Autocar's number for this recall is ACX-1502.

Engine And Engine Cooling:engine15V280000

What's wrong. Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain model year 2008-2016 Xpeditor vehicles manufactured July 30, 2007, to April 29, 2015. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.

Risk. If the engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, it can increase the risk of a vehicle fire.

Fix. Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Autocar, and Cummins service centers will administer the repairs which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ECM) with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 16, 2015. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-765-489-5499 or Cummins Inc. at 1-800-343-7357. Autocar's number for this recall is ACX-1503.

What's wrong. Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Xpeditor vehicles manufactured November 18, 2014, to July 6, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units whose defrost mode door actuators may overheat.

Risk. Overheating of the defrost actuator increases the risk of a fire.

Fix. Autocar will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional harness with four, one amp fuses to the circuit, free of charge. The recall began on September 3, 2015. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-765-489-5499. Autocar's number for this recall is ACX-1504.

Parking Brake:conventional:air19V091000

What's wrong. Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain 2008-2019 Xpeditor vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with undersized brake chambers, possibly allowing the truck to roll when parked. As a result, the vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air brake systems."

Risk. Unexpected movement when parked can increase the risk of crash.

Fix. Autocar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the parking brake chambers with ones of the proper size, free of charge. The recall began April 16, 2019. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611 or 1-877-973-3486. Autocar's number for this recall is ACX-1903.

A worn parking brake control valve can leak air into the vent line, creating excessive back pressure and causing the parking brake to release unexpectedly.

Risk. The unexpected release of the parking brake may allow the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix. Dealers will remove the vent line and fitting from the valve, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 23, 2023. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611. Autocar's number for this recall is ACX-2023 ACTT-2301.

Seat Belts:front:retractor12V394000

What's wrong. Autocar is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Xpeditor heavy-duty class 8 vehicles, manufactured from December 17, 2007, through July 10, 2012 and equipped with a right-hand (passenger-side) Bostrom air-ride seat. The seatbelt and tether intermediate connection point (ICP) located on the seat bracket may interfere with the seatbelt retractor mechanism as the seat is pneumatically adjusted for height. Over time, the interference may cause the retractor mechanism cover to crack, allowing the retractor spring to become loose and inoperable. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk. In the event of a crash, if the seat belt retractor malfunctions, the passenger may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of personal injury or death.

Fix. Autocar will notify owners and provide instructions for scheduling the vehicle repair, free of charge. The recall began on November 13, 2012. Owners may contact Autocar Service Department at 1-888-218-3611.

Autocar xpeditor has issues with "dead pedal." meaning that when the gas is pressed and the vehicle is in motion the fuel delivery stops and the motor stalls, sometimes causing the truck to shut off but not always. The dead pedal always causes the truck to roll backwards unexpectedly. Waste management seattle operates dozens of these trucks and despite several driver complaints has failed to address or correct the issue in any way. The fleet of affected trucks operates primarily on residential streets with highway driving to get to route or the dump. The dead pedal issue happens typically from the right hand side of the truck while the driver is standing and driving.*dt*jb

Our entire new fleet of trucks, to my knowledge, have a severe stalling issue. While working from the work side of the vehicle, the engine stalls out down to idle while under any level of throttle. This can happen in a single instance or several back to back, causing an immanent threat when the vehicle rolls backwards on a slope or looses steering ability because the stall is sometimes so bad that it kills the engine altogether. Management had been informed and has seemingly refused to take appropriate action. This issue continues to worsen and the fleet is only 7 months or so old. There have already been accidents involving a truck rolling backwards due to this problem and someone is eventually going to be hurt or killed.*dt consumer stated i have spoken with someone at my facility that has access to information regarding just how many trucks in the fleet that are known to have these problems.*jb*dt*tr*dt consumer update still having issues with pedal several times a day.*jb

I am employed by the city of los angeles in the department of water and power as a journeyman equipment mechanic. Ase cerrtified, gm senior master tech and ford senior master tech. The deptartment recently purchased a large number of autocar medium duty trucks powered by cummins isl-g engines. The engines are compressed natural gas(cng) fueled, spark ignition, engines and fly by wire throttle control. Throttle response does not mirror throttle input from the operator. Upon initial throttle application there is a delayed response of approximately 1.25 seconds and the throttle continues to be "lazy." when the throttle is depressed completely to wide open the engine runs up to governed speed but when the throttle is released the engine continues to operate at wide open throttle for approx. 1-2 seconds. We employ professional drivers that consider this driving characteristic unnerving. Furthermore no mechanic on staff feels these can be safely operated. However the manufacturers of the engine(cummins) and the chassis(autocar) both admit something is not right and that they have numerous complaints from other clients but each continues to blame the other stating component and or software issues. I believe it is a throttle input sample rate issue but have no way to alter those settings. I am on the committee overseeing this safety concern and we have yet to make any head way after numerous emails and phone conversations to the manufacturers. I have reviewed the federal motor carrier safety administration, standard number 124. Accelerator control system but it doesn't seem to accurately cover this issue. I also noticed that std is likely going through a revision but again those revisions don't seem to apply to our issue. Hoping your office can assist us in this matter.
