2012 BMW 328i Problems & Complaints

While traveling at night on the toll road between Washington, DC and Pittsburgh, PA, the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. Power was lost completely, including power steering, while in motion on a major freeway, creating an immediate and severe risk of collision for us and surrounding motorists. Although the vehicle did restart, it stalled again shortly afterward while still on the toll road. The failure repeated when decelerating on the highway or coming to a stop after exiting. At no point were there warning lamps, check-engine lights, messages, or reduced-power mode indicators prior to the stalls; the shutdowns occurred without any advance notice. The vehicle was towed to an independent BMW-only repair shop in Pittsburgh. Their initial assessment indicated a high likelihood that the failure involved the VANOS assembly bolts, though the engine was not disassembled at that time, so the diagnosis could not be confirmed with certainty. Because the shop did not have immediate availability, we were asked to transport the car home until they could perform a full repair. After sitting for several weeks, the car was towed back for further inspection, at which point the shop discovered that a VANOS bolt had likely sheared off and caused irreparable damage to the engine. Our only options now are to replace the engine or scrap the vehicle. The vehicle remains in Pittsburgh, PA in our possession and is available for inspection upon request. At this time, the failure has not been reproduced or confirmed by a BMW dealer, nor has it been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Importantly, there is an existing recall on VANOS bolts for the 328xi station wagon, but our vehicle’s production date ([XXX]) falls just outside the recall window of October 1, 2009–August 4, 2011. I had just came off the interstate off ramp I-44 and Chestnut Expressway when out of nowhere my Drivetrain Malfunction warning came on then the car started shaking horribly and sounded awful. Pulled over immediately and it wouldnt restart and if it did it would shut itself off almost immediately. It is currently at BMW of Springfield, they said all my sensors are correct but believe that the timing chain guide teeth busted somehow in the engine?!? Thought it could be due to the VANOS recall but my VIN isn’t included and clearly should be.

I purchased this vehicle [XXX]. Within 2 days a rattle could be heard coming from bmw vanos area, VANOS is a variable valve timing system used by BMW on various automotive petrol engines since 1992. I ceased all use of this vehicle on [XXX], only 3 days. Through my own research i found recall 23v-707 which lists my vehicle and this problem. I had the car towed to a bmw repair shop Harrison Motorsport. The owner said the engine needs to be replaced. Next I tried in Vane to get bmwna or bmwag to warrant this repair. I have numerous emails from bmwag of munich germany saying they are aware and their north america partners will be in touch. The recall states you may drive this vehicle even though it may produce a crash,,,,huh? I have another bmw specialist 4 miles from my home. I drove the car this time to Brian Motor Works. The owner here stated that without a doubt these bolts had come loose. We planned to have him fix it the next week. Still at this time there were no dashboard warnings or internal codes to be found. I tried to drive as slow as possible back home. I went 2 miles and the 1st lights appeared on the dashboard. The engine shut down and I narrowly avoided a crash. The engine will no longer turn over and I believe it has seized. Through research this issue was 1st admitted in 2014. bmw stated it illegal to sell this vehicle as a certified pre owned bmw until these bolts are checked and or replaced. Mine have never been checked or replaced. I am thankful each day that my family was not with me when this happened, My attention was totally on this vehicle when it lost all power to steer or brake. I was very lucky this day, but I fear others will not be so fortunate. thank you. THE CAR IS GIVING ME A CODE STATING THAT THERE IS A PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION. HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF BMWS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT THEY ARE NOT COVERING MY MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE EXAM SAME ISSUE

PASSENGER SEAT MAT SENSOR FOR AIRBAG CONTROL IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE WARNING IS SHOWING THAT THE SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND THAT A SEAT BELT NEEDS TO BE CONTINUED TO BE WORN. DEALER PRICE TO FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS APPROXIMATELY $1200.

TIMING CHAIN PROBLEMS, THE CAR STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD

I WAS CRUISING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY IDRIVE DISPLAYED 'LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING' AND 'DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION,' THE ENGINE WEIRD NOISES BEFORE IT SHUTDOWN AND WENT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE I WAS STILL AROUND TRAFFIC. I BARELY MADE IT A SAFE PLACE TO STOP AS I HAD TO COAST UP A HILL AND THEN TURN WITH WHATEVER MOMENTUM I HAD. THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKES WERE EXTREMELY HARD TO MOVE. I GOT MY CAR TOWED AND HAD A DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOR CODES SHOWN IN THE ATTACHED SCREENSHOT. HAD A CERTIFIED MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AND WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS AS WELL THAT OIL STARVATION DESTROYED THE ENGINE AS A RESULT OF OIL PUMP FAILURE. NO SIGN OR PREMATURE WEAR WITH A VERY GENEROUS 5,000 MILE OIL & FILTER CHANGE INTERVAL AND BEEN IN THE HANDS OF BMW DEALERSHIPS FOR ALL IT'S LIFE. *TR

WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE COMPUTER ADVISED TO PULL OVER IN A SAFE PLACE. I DID AND ENDED TOWING THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE HOUSING AROUND THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE FREE OBSTRUCTING THE OIL FLOW. THE COMPRESSION WAS GOOD BUT THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACED THE ENGINE AT A 23344.20 PLUS TAXES. NEEDLESS TO SAY I TOWED THE CAR HOME WITHOUT REPAIR. THIS IS A MANUFACTURED DEFECT BECAUSE REGULAR MAINTENANCE COULD NOT PREVENT THIS ENGINE DEFECT.

DRIVING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS APPROX. 55 MPH, WHEN LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING CAME ON AND DRIVE-TRAIN MALFUNCTION LIGHTS FLASHED ON SCREEN. CAR STALLED OUT AND WAS ALMOST UNABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD. CAR WAS TOWED TO BMW DEALER, CAUSE OF ENGINE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE TIMING CHAIN AND GUIDE. WILL REQUIRE NEW ENGINE (OUT OF WARRANTY - BMW WILL NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE). AFTER ADDITIONAL RESEARCH IT HAS LED TO MY CONCLUSION THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND A CLASS ACTION LAW SUITE HAS BEEN SUBMITTED IN REGARDS TO EARLY MODEL N20 MOTORS. PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO TIMING CHAIN DEFECT. CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED WITH REGULARLY SERVICED OIL CHANGES, ETC. I HAVE ALL PARTS RECEIPTS FOR ALL SERVICE DONE.

Yesterday morning 3/24/24 , car stalled on highway with Fuel Pump message on dashboard. Car would not start and had to be towed.

FUEL TANK LEAK. CAR STARTED SMELLING LIKE GAS. NOTICED AFTER PUMPING GAS - GAS STARTING POURING / LEAKING OUT OF FUEL TANK IN DAUGHTERS CAR ON LEFT SIDE. TOOK TO SHOP, SAID ENTIRE FUEL TANK AND WAS TOLD ENTIRE TANK WITH FUEL HOSE PIPE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CRACK IN TANK / FUEL PIPE. SHOP SAID SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING AND IS PROBABLY FAULTY. EXPENSIVE REPAIR, BMW SHOULD RECALL THE 3 SERIES ALONG WITH THE OTHER FUEL TANK / FUEL SYSTEMS THAT THEY RECALLED FOR THE 5 AND 7 SERIES. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND HAZARDOUS FOR THESE TO BE ON THE ROAD.

THE 3 SERIES BMW'S WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL 16V-746 FOR FUEL LEAK EVEN THOUGH THE 5 AND 7 SERIES HAVE THE SAME FUEL PUMP. MY CAR IS LEAKING GAS WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO MY FAMILY AND OTHERS. I HAVE READ COUNTLESS ACCOUNTS ONLINE OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THE 3 SERIES. A PROBLEM OF THIS MAGNITUDE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL.

"TAKAYA RECALL" I WAS DRIVING MY CAR (IN MOTION) ON THE HIGHWAY (BMW 328I 2012) WHEN SUDDENLY A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN STATING "FUEL SUPPLY MALFUNCTION" AFTER READING THE MESSAGE THE CAR SUDDENLY STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED MY HAZARDS ON AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR, BUT IT WOULD TURN OVER. AFTER WAITING 10 MINUTES WITH MY CAR COMPLETELY TURN OFF, IT FINALLY STARTED. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES AND MOST RECENTLY TODAY 08/31/2017 ON THE STREETS. IT WAS REALLY SCARY ORDEAL BECAUSE THE OTHER DRIVERS HAD TO SUDDENLY BRAKE! MY CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND WELL MAINTAINED, SO THIS PROBLEM SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING.

The dealer replaced the thermostat gasket, the valve cover gasket, the cylinder head cover, the ISA screws and washer, the high-pressure pipe, and the gasket flange. Additionally, the dealer performed an oil change and added coolant to the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Dealer refused to cover DME that failed immediately after recall 24V-608 work. In early June 2025, I contacted my local BMW dealership about an overheat notification I received while driving. They confirmed there was an open recall on the vehicle for a water pump connector (Recall 24V-608). I had the vehicle towed to their location. They sent me a video walkaround that characterized everything looked good, except the water pump connector which had failed. Several days later, I was informed the recall repair had been completed but when they plugged in the new water pump connector, the DME shorted and they had to unhook the battery. Despite my best attempts to get this consequential damage covered as part of the recall work, BMW refused. I was told I had to come pick up the car as-is or pay for repairs. When I looked into the issue further online, I learned that if I had chosen to pick up the car, hook up the battery and attempt to start and drive it, I could have found myself stuck inside the car (electronic locks) with a DME that literally caused the whole car to start on fire. Thank goodness I didn't go that route. After further investigation into the recall issue (24v-608), I have learned the entire basis of the recall was risk of a "thermal event" caused as a result the faulty water pump connector shorting out. BMW never denied this when I brought it up. It is infuriating that BMW is suggesting the DME shorting out is not related to or covered by the water pump recall issue. A risk of thermal event is stated in the recall notice, and the DME literally shorted out DURING the recall repair work. They quoted me something like $5,000-7,000 to have the car drivable again. I'm at a complete loss.

My BMW IS OVERHEATING ITS BEEN IMAT BMW OF DOWNTOWN FOR 8 days and they’re trying to charge me to repair my melted fuse box,cooling systems and battery, damage that has occurred as a default of the pcv

The contact stated that the temperature sensor on the instrument panel had initially failed to operate as needed; over time, the entire instrument panel had gone blank while the vehicle was being driven. In addition, the battery would continue to run while the vehicle was turned off; as a result, the vehicle would shut off while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to various independent mechanics and each stated that the instrument cluster was defective. Despite multiple battery and temperature gauge replacements, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that there were no recalls on the vehicle and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION. On June 25th 2025, for the second time I got this Drive Train Malfunction Issue on my 328i 2012 Model. The car just stopped in middle of road ( thank GOD not on a freeway ; otherwise, this would have resulted in multi car accidents and could have costed people's life including mine ). The car just died and STOPPED all of a sudden in middle of road and when I tried to start it, it only crank's . After waiting for about 10 minutes, it started . I had exactly same issue earlier in July 2024 and that time BMW service found high pressure fuel pump to be defective and they changed that. I was told by my BMW dealer that certain model and year BMW has this issue and it is well know. But I do see BMW issuing to its customers or doing anything. If the car just stops without any warning to pull over etc. while you are driving is very serious is VERY SERIOUS and LIFE- THREATENING ISSUE . Imagine one is driving at 70 miles an hour on a busy freeway and car abruptly stops ( like my car did , twice in last 11 months, thank god not on freeway though) and there are several cars behind you driving at more or less at same speed; this will result in multi cars collision and multiple accidents and deaths. I request NHTSA to take this serious issue on priority basis and do something ASAP.

It’s sounds like it’s moving but it doesn’t.

THE BMW 2012 328 XIT (XI WAGON) HAD HAD STUMBLING ISSUES FOR MONTHS AND THE DEALER WASN'T ABLE TO DIAGNOSE. AT A 120,000 MILES TOOK MY CAR INTO BE SERVICED AND WAS TOLD THE TIMING CHAIN, OIL CHAIN AND TENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF 4,400.00, IF THE THE CHAIN HAD CAME OFF OF THE TENSIONER AND RUIN IT MOTOR THAT COULD BE FROM 12,000.00 TO 22,000.00. While driving car at speeds <30 mph, on hitting a minor bump on the road, car engine suddenly stopped with a "Drivetrain malfunction" error. The car lost all power within a few seconds, including power steering. The instrument cluster was off except for error message. Transmission shifted to Neutral automatically which I believe is by design. On somehow maneuvering in traffic and coasting to a stop, and waiting a minute and pressing the ignition start button, car powered on immediately and was driveable. The same incident repeated within 30 miles of driving. A local authorized service center found no existing problems although there are several error messages logged by the on board computer. The safety is severely compromised and the car can be easily rear-ended since hazard light signals also failed. The vehicle has otherwise been regularly maintained at authorized service centers.

Passenger restraint system malfunction. My vehicle as well as thousands of others have the chronic and unsafe issue of the passenger occupancy sensor malfunctioning. In order to remove warning on dash it’s either a $2,000 repair, or a $40 bypass which basically places the seat as constantly occupied, sticking the passenger airbag in the ‘on’ position. Vehicle is available for inspection. With this malfunction, any person that sits in the passenger front seat is at risk of injury or death in the event of a collision. Malfunction has been confirmed by both a dealer and an independent service center. Vehicle was inspected by the dealer, but no police or insurance company. Vehicle was purchased with the malfunction and the warning lights have been on for several years. With the massive number of vehicles of this make with a range of different mileage, with this issue, a recall is not only needed but warranted and should be mandated with this being a major safety issue.

A CRITICAL SAFETY DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT SHOULD NOT BE FAILING SO EARLY OR FREQUENTLY.

HAD MY ODB-II SCANNER WITH ME AND GOT CODE USED MY OBDII READER AND GOT CODE P142E - PRESSURE TOO LOW IN HIGH-PRESSURE SYSTEM, WHICH IS CONSISTENT WITH NOT STARTING AND THE AND THE FUEL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION MESSAGE. I TOOK THE CAR TO AUTOGERMANA SERVICE CENTER, THAT SAME DAY. SEPTEMBER 22, 2016 - STALLED ON A MAIN ROAD, WITH MY DAUGHTER, ON THE WAY TO THE PEDIATRICIAN. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE RIGHT LANE AND PARK ON A GAS STATION. AMBIENT TEMP WAS 94F. WAITED ABOUT 30MINS AND THE CAR RE-STARTED. THE DEALESHIP WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE FAILURE. SENT EMAIL TO BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS BUT THEY REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP.

HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW I WAS DRIVING IT PERFECTLY FINE BEFORE STORING IT FOR WINTER, AND HOW 3 BOLTS WAS ALREADY MISSING AND THE LAST BOLT WAS CORRODING AND EVENTUALLY FELL OFF. NICE, NOT A MECHANICAL ISSUE SO NOT BMW'S RESPONSIBILITY. THIS MEANS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR WITH 1 BOLT HOLDING THE STEERING RACK TO THE MOTOR FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME. THE CAR GAVE NO WARNINGS WHATSOEVER AND I AM LUCKY THAT THE LAST AND FINAL BOLT HELD TOGETHER UNTIL THE CAR WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN. IF THE LAST BOLT GAVE UP WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING, THEN I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN SO LUCKY. WHY WOULD AN IMPACT THAT STRONG, AS DESCRIBED BY THE BMW TECHNICIAN, NOT FULLY RIP APART THE BOLTS? WHY WAS I ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY FOR WEEKS WITHOUT ISSUES? HOW DID IT NOT CAUSE ANY OTHER ISSUES AROUND THE WHEEL OR SUSPENSION AND ONLY 4 SECLUDED BOLTS WERE AFFECTED? WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF ALL THE BOLTS GAVE UP WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN? HOW DOES A BMW CANNOT WITHSTAND NORMAL IMPACT WITH ITS FINE GERMAN ENGINEERING? FORD HAD RECENTLY RECALLED ALMOST 1 MILLION VEHICLES BECAUSE THEIR BOLTS WERE FAULTY AND WOULD CORRODE UNDER WATER/SNOW WITH SALT. TESLA DID THE SAME RECALL EARLIER THIS YEAR. PLEASE NOTE TESLA USES THE SAME MANUFACTURER FOR THESE ALUMINUM BOLTS WHICH ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO CORROSION AS BMW.

WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE GARAGE, A WARNING MESSAGE "CHASIS STABILIZATION: DRIVE MODERATELY" APPEARED ON THE DASH AND HAD NO POWER STEERING AND WAS MAKING WHIRRING NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. STOPPED THE CAR AND WALKED BACK INTO THE GARAGE AND FOUND A SHEARED OFF BOLT ON THE FLOOR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND ALL THE THREE BOLTS ON THE ELECTRIC STEERING MOTOR SHEARED OFF & MISSING AND THE STEERING MOTOR WAS ABOUT TO FALL OFF FROM ITS PLACE AND EXCESSIVE CORROSION WAS ALSO NOTICED. THE ONE BOLT FOUND ON THE GARAGE FLOOR MUST HAVE BEEN THE LAST ONE HOLDING THE MOTOR IN PLACE. GLAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE DRIVEWAY AND NOT AT FREEWAY SPEEDS OR WHEN MAKING A TURN.

My BMW 2012 E92 model vehicle currently has a malfunctioning Front Seat Occupancy AirBag sensor mat is very similar to the recall for E60 to E91 models. BMW refuses to fix it under the other recall and I'm wondering what can be done to add it to the recall? I also read of an extended warranty for this part but I do not qualify since my model is e92.( SI B01 01 18) . Please advise.

WATER SEEMED TO BE DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD. CHECKED VENTS UNDER HOOD, CLEAR. CLEANED IT ALL UP AND DRY VACUUMED. TODAY, 7/15/2020 ANOTHER ROUND OF HEAVY RAINFALL...CAR PARKED IN DRIVEWAY ON SLIGHT SLOPE, ALL CLOSED UP. CHECKED AFTER RAIN STOPPED, ON PASSENGER SIDE 2 INCHES OF RAIN, DRIVER SIDE 1 INCH OF RAIN. DRIPS APPEARED TO BE COMING OUT OF PASSENGER VISOR MIRROR. IMMEDIATELY DRIED IT UP WITH TOWELS. NO ACCESS TO NEIGHBORS DRY VAC TODAY (THEY ARE OUT OF TOWN). BMW DENIED MY REQUEST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE "IN TANK FUEL PUMP". I GUESS PEOPLE NEED TO DIE IN TRAFFIC WHEN THEY RUN OUT OF FUEL UNSUSPECTINGLY FOR BMW TO CARE OR ISSUE A RECALL.

DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION, REAR RIGHT BREAK LIGHT WARNING LIGHT IS ON WILL NOT GO OFF, HAD THE BULB CHANGED AND STILL NOT WORKING. DRIVE TRAIN GO ON WHEN TRYING TO GO INTO SPEED ON ALL FUNCTIONS SUCH AS ECO MODE, NORMAL MODE AND SPORT MODE. INDICATOR LIGHT GOES BACK TO NORMAL AFTER CAR IS COMPLETELY OFF AND UPON START UP LIGHT GOES OFF. RIGHT FRONT TIRE WHEN BEING DRIVEN SOUNDS LIKE A FLAT BUT WHEN CHECKED ON THE EXTERIOR, SEEM TO BE NO DAMAGE TO THE TIRE.

RECENTLY MY GIRLFRIEND AND I HAD PURCHASED AND FINANCED A 2012 BMW 328I. THE MILEAGE WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR WAS AT 48,000. WITHEN THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF HAVING THE CAR I HAD TO BRING IT BACK DUE TO THE PARKING LAMP BEING OUT. I DIDN'T GET NO WARNING FROM THE CAR THAT THE LIGHT WAS OUT EITHER. I BROUGHT IT IN THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM FOR THE TIME BEING AND I WENT ON MY WAY. THE SAME EXACT PARKING LAMP WENT OUT ANOTHER FEW WEEKS LATER. WE HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR 3 MONTHS AND IT IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE AND SAYING THAT I HAVE DRIVEN A LOT MORE MILES THAN I ACTUALLY HAVE. THE ODOMETER IS NOW READING 60,000 MILES. BASICALLY SAYING I HAD DRIVEN OVER 13,000 MILES IN CLOSE TO 3 MONTHS TIME. THERE IS NO WAY I COULD OF DRIVEN 13,000 MILES IN THAT SHORT OF TIME WHEN I ONLY USE THE CAR TO GO TO WORK WHICH IS 20 MILES AWAY. THE CAR BROKE DOWN ON ME AND THE ODOMETER IS DEFINENTLY FAULTY. I KNOW ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WHEN I SEE THEM. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE PRIOR TO BREAKING DOWN. ENGINE SHAKED VIOLENTLY AND MADE HISSING SOUNDS AFTER RELEASING THE GAS.

PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION WARNING ILLUMINATED SPORADICALLY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. A WEEK LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I TOOK IT BACK AND WAS TOLD THE PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR PAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NOW BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAG/RESTRAINT SYSTEM ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING OR PARKED. THE VEHICLE DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BEING ENGAGED. THESE WARNING APPEAR EITHER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR PARKED.

WHILE IN LINE IN A DRIVE THRU THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF SUDDENLY LOSING ALL ELECTRICAL POWER AND POWER STEERING. UPON TRYING TO START "CHARGING MALFUNCTION" APPEARED ON THE INFORMATION SCREEN IN WITH A RED WARNING SIGN. TRIED 2-3 TIMES TO TURN OVER STARTER. WHEN VEHICLE TURNED ON IT WAS TIME TO MOVE FORWARD. WHEN TRYING TO EXIT DRIVE THRU DRIVE WAY VEHICLE WAS VERY HEAVY AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. FINALLY AFTER SEVERAL BACK AND FORTH ATTEMPTS VEHICLE WAS MOVED ABOUT 50 FEET TO A SAFE PARKING LOCATION.

I BOUGHT MY CAR AT AROUND 50K MILES, AFTER MANUFACTURER' WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. IT WAS FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH AFTER MY PURCHASE. ONE DAY, AFTER DRIVING FROM THE STORE, MY CAR INDICATED I NEEDED TO FASTEN MY SEATBELT. I WAS FASTENED IN. SO I STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE CAR, THINKING IT WAS SOME WEIRD ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I GOT HOME AND THE NEXT TIME I GOT INTO MY CAR TO DRIVE IT, THE DISPLAY NOW SHOWS" DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION: CONTINUE WEARING SAFETY BELT. CONSULT NEAREST SERVICE CENTER." I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE WARRANTY I PURCHASED DOES NOT COVER SEATBELTS OR AIRBAG SENSORS. THE DEALER GAVE ME A COST OF REPLACEMENT: $820.52! I HAVE READ THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. YET, THERE IS NO RECALL. WHY WOULD IT BE OKAY FOR SEATBELTS AND AIRBAG SENSORS TO STOP WORKING JUST AFTER 50K MILES?

SUDDEN COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER WHILE UNDERWAY ON INTERSTATE 476 NORTH OF PHILADELPHIA. CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF 4 LANES OF HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC AT 4:10 PM.IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF AN ISSUE PRIOR. I AM SOLE OPERATOR OF CAR. CAR WAS IN DEALERS SHOP FOR 7 DAYS. NO OBVIOUS CAUSE FOUND, BUT BOSCH COILS REPLACED AS A PRECAUTION. 300 MILES LATER ON MAY 26, AT APPROX 5:20 PM THE CAR AGAIN W/O WARNING HAD SUDDEN COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER; WOULD NOT RESTART.

ENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL ON INTERSTATE AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AND AGGRESSIVELY ACCELERATED. AS THE VEHICLE SPEED INDICATOR APPROACHED THE CRUISE CONTROL PIPPER, THE PIPPER BEGAN TO INCREASE, STAYING ABOUT 5MPH AHEAD OF THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE. AT APPROXIMATELY 95MPH I DISENGAGED THE SYSTEM USING THE CONTROL IN THE STEERING WHEEL. INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYED A "CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTION" ERROR. ENGAGING THE BRAKE DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT ONCE I RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CRUISE BEGAN AGGRESSIVELY ACCELERATING AGAIN. TRIED IT ONCE MORE OFF THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH AND VEHICLE DISPLAYED SAME SYMPTOM. VEHICLE SPEED ALWAYS APPEARS TO CHASE THE CRUISE SETTING WHICH INCREASES STEADILY IN RELATION TO VEHICLE SPEED. PLAN TO CONTACT DEALER TODAY. *TR

UNABLE TO ACCELERATE SAFELY, ENGINE GIVES OUT INTERMITTENTLY AT VARYING SPEEDS. CALLED EVERY DEALERSHIP AROUND ALPHARETTA, GA; GWINNETTE BMW TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T WORK ON IT OR HELP ME AND THEN HUNG UP-ALL ON A RECORDED LINE. STILL WAITING FOR A MANAGER TO CALL ME. CALLED ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY SAID TO WAIT A FEW HOURS AND TRY AGAIN MEANWHILE I CAN ONLY HOPE MY CAR DOESN'T SHUT OFF ON MY DURING RUSH HOUR OR ON MY WAY TO WORK. THIS HAS BEEN ON ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE F30 BMW 3 SERIES AS MANY CUSTOMERS INDICATED THIS ISSUE FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS SUDDENLY BECAME INOPERABLE WHEN THE VEHICLE SWITCHED FROM ECO MODE TO NORMAL DRIVE MODE INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND ONCE RESTARTED, THE WIPERS REMAINED INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.

WENT TO START CAR AND GOT A DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION MESSAGE. HAD IT TOWED TO A BMW DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THEY WILL REPLACE THE INTAKE VANOS SOLENOID SENSOR. *TR

THE I DRIVE COMPLETELY FAILED LEAVING THE SCREEN BLACK AT THIS TIME I HAD NO AUDIO,NO HANDS FREE TELEPHONE NO WAY TO CHANGE ANY SETTINGS ON THE VEHICLE. WENT TO BMW DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS AN OVERTEMP CODE AND THAT BMW WAS AWARE THAT THERE WERE PROBLEMS AND ENGINEERS WERE WORKING ON IT BUT AT THE TIME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM THIS CAR ONLY HAS 12,300 MILES ON IT AND STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THERE WERE 3 OTHER CARS THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ALL CARS HAD LOW MILEAGE. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT BMW IS AWARE OF BUT CHOOSES TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. APRIL 2013, A WARNING SIGNAL ON MY VEHICLE NOTIFIED ME THERE WAS A NEED FOR COOLANT. I SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE FOR 4/18/13. I INFORMED THEM OF THE COOLANT WARNING AND ALSO INQUIRED ABOUT RECALL NOTICES. ON 4/19/13, I CALLED WEBER BMW MYSELF TO CHECK THE STATUS, LOUIE INFORMED ME THERE WERE 3 RECALL NOTICES ON MY CAR THAT WERE APPARENT AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED, AND THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO HOLD MY CAR UNTIL MONDAY 4/22/13.I PICKED UP MY CAR ON 4/23/13 AND LOUIE INFORMED ME ALL THE RECALLS WERE FIXED AND MY CAR WAS GOOD TO TAKE HOME. ON 4/24/13, THE COOLANT WARNING SIGNALED AGAIN. THAT EVENING, MY CAR BEGAN TO EXERT EVEN MORE ISSUES THAN BEFORE! FIRST THE COOLANT WARNING, THEN WARNING TELLING ME TO DRIVE MODERATELY, THEN PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY ENGINE OVERHEATING. I PULLED THE CAR OVER, STOPPED THE ENGINE ALLOWING IT TO COOL DOWN, AND STARTING IT BACK UP, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 17 MPH. I CONTACTED WEBER BMW FOR ANOTHER SERVICE SCHEDULED FOR 4/30/13. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM WEBER BMW CONTACTED ME ON 4/29/13 AND INFORMED ME LOUIE ADVISED I CASUALLY STOP BY TO TOP OFF MY COOLANT,' AND THAT SHOULD RESOLVE MY PROBLEMS. I FOUND THIS RESOLUTION SKEPTICAL, LAZY, AND KNEW IT WOULD NOT BE ADEQUATE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES WITH MY CAR. I STOPPED BY WEBER ON 4/29/13 AND THE SERVICE ADVISER ATTEMPTED TO 'TOP OFF MY COOLANT, WHEN WE BOTH NOTICED THE COOLANT SPILLING OUT OF THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ENGINE (I EMPHASIZE SPILLING AND NOT LEAKING). I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. LOUIE CALLED ME ON 4/30/13 TO REPORTED A HOLE IN THE PART THAT WAS REPLACED PER THE RECALL CAUSING THE COOLANT TO SPILL OUT. HE LET ME KNOW THAT THE CAR WOULD BE READY NEXT DAY 5/1/13 FOR PICK UP. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER. I PURCHASED THIS CAR 4/10/12, AND IT BEGAN SHOWING ISSUES OF POOR MANUFACTURING JUST SHY OF A YEAR, I ONLY HAVE 14,000MILES ON THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE DEVELOPED A BUBBLE ON THE SIDE WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY DRIVING OVER A POT HOLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE DOT AND THE VIN NUMBERS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,393 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,000. *TR

I WAS PULLING INTO THE DRIVE WAY TO PARK MY CAR. BECAUSE THERE IS A TINY SLANT, SO I DECIDED TO PUSH FOR A LITTLE GAS. THE CAR, HOWEVER, DID NOT STOP WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BECAUSE THE I DRIVE THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR. *TR

THIS CAR HAS NO "SAFETY CATCH" ON THE HOOD LATCH THAT THE OWNER OPENS AFTER FIRST RELEASING THE HOOD FROM INSIDE THE CAR. INSTEAD, THE OWNER OPENS THE HOOD BY PULLING TWICE ON THE HOOD RELEASE LEVEL INSIDE THE CAR IN THE DRIVER'S FOOTWELL. THE HOOD THEN OPENS FREELY WITHOUT FURTHER UNLATCHING OUTSIDE THE CAR. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THIS LATCH SYSTEM FAILS TO CLOSE THE HOOD PROPERLY. OFTEN ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER WILL NOT LATCH FIRMLY INTO PLACE. SO, INSTEAD OF TWO LATCHES HOLDING THE HOOD DOWN, ONLY ONE DOES. I TOOK MY CAR TO A DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM, WHO DIAGNOSED IT HAS BEING CAUSED BY "LEAVES" IN THE MECHANISM. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED ON BOTH THE SIDE THEY CLEANED (THE PASSENGER'S SIDE) AND ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE LATCHES. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH THE HOOD ONLY PARTIALLY LATCHED CLOSED, AS I AM SURE YOU WILL AGREE. OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DISENGAGES IF PASSENGER SITS ON ANY TYPE CUSHION. PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DISENGAGED LIGHT IS ON IF PASSENGER IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SITTING ON ANY TYPE OF CUSHION OR PADDING. THE AIR BAG CAN DISENGAGE IF PASSENGER WEARS A PADDED WINTER COAT. THIS BMW 328I ORIGINALLY WAS DELIVERED WITH THE AIR BAG ENGAGED WITH OR WITHOUT A PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DISABLED LIGHT WAS ALWAYS OFF AND THE AIR BAG WAS ENGAGED. BMW WILL NOT RESTORE TO THE ORIGINAL DELIVERED CONDITION. THE PASSENGER SITTING ON ANY CUSHION OR PADDING IS IN DANGER OF INJURY BECAUSE OF A DISENGAGED PASSENGER AIR BAG.
