I’m writing to escalate an unresolved issue following a recent airbag takata recall repair performed at BMW of Manhattan on my 2007 BMW X3 VIN [XXX] ) , license [XXX] Prior to the recall service, there were no airbag or SRS warning lights on my dashboard. Immediately after the repair, however, the airbag light appeared, and I have since been informed by the dealership that it is unrelated to their work and my responsibility to address — despite this issue arising only after their service. This raises serious safety and liability concerns, especially considering the recall involved the airbag system. I respectfully request: A formal investigation into the cause of the warning light A no-cost diagnostic scan by the dealer to confirm or rule out installation error Assistance in resolving the issue promptly under BMW’s recall and warranty obligations. I have documentation from the service visit and can provide photos or service reports upon request. I was never given a document when I first picked up my car and would like to know what was exactly done to my vehicle since your service advisor strongly believes INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

During the crash the front driver side and passenger side airbags did not deploy. The driver sustained head, neck, back and internal injuries and the front passenger sustained head, neck, back and leg injuries. No further information was available. SEVERE ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION ON 2007 BMW E83 X3. ONCE THE ENGINE HAS REACHED NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE, TRANSMISSION ISSUES ARE MORE NOTICEABLE. MY VEHICLE DOES NOT RESPOND IMMEDIATELY TO THROTTLE INPUT WHEN STARTING FROM A DEAD STOP. SEVERAL HESITATIVE JERKS ARE FELT AND THEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES VERY SLOWLY. OFTEN TIMES DURING THIS SEQUENCE, THE EXHAUST EMITS A HUGE PLUME OF SMOKE, BLINDING DRIVERS BEHIND THE VEHICLE. UPON DECELERATION, MY VEHICLE MAY DOWNSHIFT HARSHLY, GENERATING A FORWARD SURGE OF ACCELERATION BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO MATCH ENGINE REVS WITH THE LOWER GEAR; I HAVE ONLY EXPERIENCED THIS PARTICULAR CHARACTERISTIC AT LOW SPEEDS (<20 MPH). ALSO WHILE DECELERATING, MY VEHICLE MAY LOSE POWER, WHICH RESULTS IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING, MAKING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. I was driving my daughter to school this morning and turned on the seat warmers/heaters. After a few minutes on the road, I started to smell something burning. I couldn’t identify the smell and wondered if it was coming from the heater. I touched the left edge of the driver seat and was immediately burned on my hand. I quickly turned off the seat heaters and noticed that the left edge of the seat was burning. Yes, the safety of me and my daughter was at risk. I swerved when it burned me. No accident, fortunately. This is a known issue from what I’ve researched and it seems a recall was issued in 2006. So why not for this year. Same seat. Very dangerous. Could have been much worse.No, it has not been inspected. The damage is obvious and the only solution is to disable/not use it until a recall is issued. There were no warning lamps, etc. And the fuse didn’t blow, either. Problem has been reproduced.

The fire burnt through the seat and left a hole. There were no reported injuries. The driver was able to extinguish the fire. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HEATER GOT EXCESSIVLY HOT AND ALMOST BURNT MY SIDE. I COULD SMELL A BURNING SMELL SO I TURNED IT OFF. NOW YOU CAN SEE THE IMPRINT OF THE COIL THROUGH THE LEATHER SEAT. I'VE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH MICHAEL PIGONCELLI AT BMW NORTH AMERICA AND HE SUGGESTED I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA. YOU ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM IN 2004 WITH THE BMW 5 & 7 SERIES. I FEEL THE ISSUE NEVER GOT RESOLVED AND IT IS STILL A PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD NEVER BE AN INTERIOR PART OF A CAR THAT COULD CATCH ON FIRE AND BURN SOMEONE REGARLESS OF THE AGE OF THE CAR. I TRIED TO GET UNITED BMW TO DO A "GOODWILL" FIX, BUT THEY WOULDN'T. MR. PIGONCELLI IS REACHING OUT TO UNITED BMW TO HAVE A FREE DIAGNOSTIC TEST RUN ON THE SEAT HEATER TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AND ESTIMATE TO FIX IT, BUT I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR COST.

PROCEEDED TO PUT VEHICLE IN GEAR & TURNED ON VEHICLE HEATER TO 91F FULL SPEED (AUTO)CIRCULATE, FOLLOWED BY BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT HEATERS (TO LEVEL 3 OF 3 GREEN LIGHTS ON BUTTON). DROVE 15MPH SPEED LIMIT & AFTER ABOUT 3 MINUTES, LESS THAN 1/4 OF A MILE. SMOKE BEGAN FILLING THE CABIN, MEANWHILE PASSENGER PANICED SCREAMING I'M BURNING, I'M ON FIRE. IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER & TURNED OFF VEHICLE, AIRED OUT VEHICLE BY OPENING DOORS, & INVESTED CAUSE. FOUND BURN ON RIGHT SIDE OF PASSENGER SEAT. I received a Recall notice in April 2022 regarding the PCV valve issue stating there was an issue and no fix was avaliable. The veichle caught fire in the drive way on 1/14/2023 and spred to the garage. 2 weeks after the fire on January 31, 2023 I received a fix is avalible notice.

Vehicle breaking down/stalling out due to overheating with no visible defects that would cause a vehicle to overheat. Vehicle is maintained regularly and very well taken care of but persists having overheating issues and smells of burning plastic or burning electrical smell with no visible cause. The most recent incident that occurred on 9/12/22 happened while I was making a very routine drive on the freeway going approx. 70mph mid morning so slight traffic and within 2 second the vehicles temperature gauge went from smack in the middle where it sits usually to maxed out in the red! Vehicle starts very loudly beep beep beeping and then just loses power MID FREEWAY which of course means zero power steering to assist in coasting to the nearest exit while hoping not to get run over by hurried angry morning Phoenix drivers. I made it just off the off ramp and was able to make a right turn onto the street before I had to just turn on my hazards and exit the vehicle for my own safety, but mind you this is after a few failed attempts to get the car started again. Now my vehicle sits smack in the middle of a busy road taking up a whole lane while I sit there waiting for it to "cool" down in 100°F + weather and look under the hood for possible leaks or cause. After 20 minutes or so the police show up which is just the icing on the cake but just before I about blew a gasket mentally (LOL PUN) the officers approached me very friendly and concerned my my safety and the safety of my vehicle and offered to push me up the hill into the nearest station to avoid a possible collision which is where I let the vehicle sit a few hours, went back, turned her over and drove away like nothing over happened......uhh what?!?

I have contacted NHTSA and BMW several times. I want this in writing in the case myself or my children are injuried when in this vehicle. My bmw x3 is my only form of transportation the engine light is on and it has started to smoke twice when engine is off. I just purchased the car second week of March 2022. It is hard for the car to accelerate and once the car is stopped at light or stop sign, the car does not have enough power to drive away or pull off. The car RPM goes very high and then low. This issue is unsafe and unfair that a customer can not drive their vehicle to work and appointments for my son with autism as well as my other 3 children. The burden is on BMW and NHTSA to remedy this issue. I will be contacting my local congress person to address this issue is well.

After hearing a very loud bang. I noticed a very bad vibration during normal operation of the vehicle. Today I was able to find the problem. The 4 bolts that hold the motor mount bracket to the engine block were sheared off. After just a little research on this issue. It seems this a very common incident on all newer bmw vehicles. In the course of this damage, I now need several thousand dollars worth of repairs that are directly attributed to this bolt failure. The rest of the owners that have experienced this issue have had the same outcome. I am having my vehicle towed to a shop in a few days to get an estimate on the damages. Since this is obviously an ongoing and known issue for BMW vehicles, BMW should issue a recall or a service bulletin that will cover repairs to their vehicles.

TURNED ON DRIVER SIDE SEAT HEATER AND IT BURNED A HOLE IN THE SEAT AT THE LOWER LEFT SIDE OF THE OF THE SEAT UPRIGHT PORTION. IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF WHEN SMELLED BURNING AND FELT EXTREMELY HOT AT LOWER BACK. DRIVER COULD HAVE BEEN BURNED. SAW MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IN THE EXACT SAME LOCATION. I WAS NEARLY KILLED TODAY BY A TRUCKER. THE COMPANY AND THE TRUCKER DIDN'T CARE. THE TRUCKER FLIPPED ME OFF AND CUSSED ME OUT. I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF THE FMCSA REPORT AND PICTURES OF THE DRIVER. THE TRUCKER CROSSED TWO LANES FROM THE RIGHT HAND LANE DURING A TURN, NEARLY DRIVING OVER MY VEHICLE. THE TRUCK DRIVER DID NOT USE A TURN SIGNAL, AND NEVER SLOWED DOWN DESPITE ALMOST HITTING ME. THIS FORCED MY VEHICLE INTO THE MEDIUM, AND THE TRUCK DRIVER FLIPPED ME OFF AND CUSSED ME OUT. DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK OR OPEN. I WAS LITERALLY TRAPPED INSIDE MY CAR IN A PARKING LOT. DROVE VEHICLE HOME, HAD TO PUT DOWN WINDOW AND HAVE SOMEONE USE VALET KEY AT MY HOUSE TO OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR. NONE OF THE OTHER THREE PASSENGER DOORS CAN BE UNLOCKED. LUCKILY NO PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE. WAS TOLD THERE IS A TSB RELATED TO THIS, HOWEVER IT IS NOT RECOGNIZED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS CONSIDERED "SAFE" WHEN IF MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE AND I HAD MY CHILDREN IN THEIR CAR SEATS IN THE BACK SEAT, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO OPEN THE DOORS TO GET THEM OUT. BMW IS AWARE THAT THE ACTUATORS ARE PULLING TOO MUCH CURRENT THROUGH THE FUSES AND THAT THE ACTUATORS NEED REPLACED. ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS FAILED ON ALL FOUR DOORS WITH NO SYMPTOMS PRIOR TO COMPLETE SYSTEM FAILURE. KEY FOB AND CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM BUTTON INSIDE CAR WOULD NOT UNLOCK ANY DOOR. DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN BY PULLING ON INTERIOR DOOR LATCH HANDLES. THE ONLY WAY TO ENTER/EXIT VEHICLE WAS BY USING KEY ON EXTERIOR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO UNLOCK THE DOOR, OR THROUGH THE WINDOWS. THIS SEEMS LIKE AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SINGLE POINT EGRESS FAILURE THAT COULD RESULT IN UNNECESSARY INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. I REPLACED THE BLOWN 15A FUSE (#57) WITH A 20A FUSE PER SI B51 19 07 TWICE. FIRST FUNCTIONAL TEST BY PRESSING THE CENTRAL LOCK SYSTEM BUTTON RESULTED IN THE NEW FUSE BLOWING IMMEDIATELY EACH TIME. FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR WILL BE NECESSARY TO RESOLVE ISSUE (LIKELY BY REPLACING FAULTY ELECTRO/MECHANICAL DOOR LATCH/LOCK/ACTUATOR MECHANISM). *TR

They said au had to pay $100.00 to have the engine light off. I said I'm not paying if it's a recall. They refused to do anything else. I took it home and put my code reader on it and it was showing code for the part that Was not changed under recall. I have been calling them since and they have not called me back.

MY 2007 X3 WAS INVOLVED IN A BIZARRE AND FREAKY SOLO ACCIDENT. MY HOUSE IS ON SLOPED HILL WITH A LEVEL DRIVEWAY. THE ROAD LEADING TO THE DRIVEWAY IS ABOUT 20-25 FEET BELOW THE DRIVEWAY. ON APR. 18, 2013, UPON ENTERING THE DRIVEWAY, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, HIT CONCRETE COLUMNS (ON THE EDGE OF THE DRIVEWAY, MEANT FOR RETAINING WALLS) 3 TIMES AND WENT AIRBORNE FROM THE EDGE OF THE DRIVEWAY ONTO THE STREET BELOW. THE CAR HIT THE STREET SURFACE ON ITS ROOF, ROLLED OVER ONCE AND CAME TO A STOP ON ITS 4 TIRES. DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER HAD SEATBELTS ON AND RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. THE REAR PASSENGER WAS EJECTED FROM THE CAR AND SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES AND STILL REMAINS HOSPITALIZED 18 DAYS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. ALL WIRING INSIDE OF BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES ARE BRITTLE TO THE TOUCH. I HAD A LIGHT COME ON IN THE DASH FOR A LIGHT BULB OUT AND UPON GETTING READY TO REPLACE THE DRIVERS LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT, I LEARNED ALL THE WIRE COATING WAS FLACKED OFF AND CAUSED A GROUND. I REMOVED BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES, AS BOTH WERE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN AND HAD THEM PROFRESSIONALLY REWIRED THEM WITH HEATSHRINK TUBING, AND REPLACED THE BURNT OUT HEAD LIGHT BULB. I STILL HAVE A LIGHT OUT ON THE DASH AND THE HEADLIGHT DOES NOT WORK. FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING HAS REAVEALED THIS IS NOT THE SWITCH, AS I PURCHASED A KNOWN GOOD ONE, AND STILL NO POWER TO THE DRIVERS LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHT + LEAD. I HAVE YET TO REPLACE THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE UNIT (UNDER THE DASH? I BELIEVE) AS THIS IS TOO COSTLY FOR ME TO AFFORD. I WILL JUST DRIVE WITH ONE HEADLIGHT OUT. :(

I OVERLAID ALL ACCESSIBLE WIRES WITH ELECTRICAL TAPE IN HOPES TO PREVENT A SHORT AND FIRE. SINCE THEN I'VE READ OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS REPORTED BY SEVERAL BMW OWNERS ON BIMMERFORUMS.COM, WITH ATTACHED CORRESPONDENCES FROM BMW DENYING ANY PROBLEM. XENON ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS - THE WIRE INSIDE MY XENON ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS IS BRITTLE AND THE INSULATION IS FLAKING OFF. I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WHEN I OPENED ONE OF MY HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES TO REPLACE A BULB. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF WIRE INSULATION HAVE FLAKED OFF AND EXPOSED COPPER WIRING. I HAVE LOTS OF PICTURES. I AM FORTUNATE THAT I DID NOT HAVE A SHORT OR A FIRE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. BMW MUST ALREADY KNOW THAT THEY HAVE A WIRING DEFECT IN THEIR CARS. BMW REPLACEMENT HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES ARE $2600 PLUS LABOR. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS 2007 BMW 328I E92 WITH 48,000 MILES. BMW WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES.

SHIELDING ON DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAS FRAYED AND IS PEELING. ADDRESSED THIS MATTER WITH DEALERSHIP WHO IN TURN REFERRED ME TO REGIONAL BRAND MANAGER. BRAND MANAGER INDICATED THAT THE WIRE JUST DOESN'T FRAY AND I MUST HAVE MODIFIED MY VEHICLE TO CAUSE THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOCK EXCEPT FOR A K&N FILTER HAS HAD ALL SERVICES PERFORMED AT THE DEALER UNTIL ABOUT A 10 MONTHS WHEN THE FACTORY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. I STILL TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MAJOR SERVICES BUT PERFORM OIL CHANGES AND SPARK PLUG CHANGES ON MY OWN. BRAND MANAGER OFFERED TO DISCOUNT A NEW SET OF HEADLIGHTS BY 20% TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT AT OVER $1K FOR EACH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IT SEEMS UNREASONABLE FOR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I'M ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM NOW AS MY DRL BULBS (H8'S) HAVE BLOWN ON EACH SIDE TWICE OVER THE PAST FOUR MONTHS AND THE SHIELDING DRL HARNESS HAS COMPLETELY PEELED AWAY. A POTENTIAL FIRED HAZARD AS BOTH NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE LEADS ARE EXPOSED. TAKATA RECALL - MY VEHICLE HAS A RECALL AND NO ONE HAS A REMEDY FOR IT. NOT THE DEALER, MANUFACTURER OR TAKATA. THE ISSUE IS THAT I NEED MY CAR AND THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE RECEIVED DOCUMENTATION FROM TAKATA AND BMW THAT THERE CURRENTLY IS NO REMEDY. A WARNING CODE IS TRIGGERED THAT AFFECTS THE OPERATION OF THE AIRBAG. THE WARNING CODE IS PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR. THE AIRBAG LIGHT IN THE DASH FLASHES ON AND OFF RANDOMLY WHETHER THERE IS SOMEONE IN THE SEAT OR NOT. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT IS FASTENED OR NOT. BMW HAS A RECALL FOR EARLIER YEARS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THIS VEHICLE, BUT NOT FOR THIS YEAR WHICH ALSO HAS QUITE A FEW OF THESE FAILURES. THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, IN PARK, ALL DOORS WERE UNLOCKED, WHEN A PASSENGER ATREMPTED TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM OUTSIDE IN ORDER TO RETRIEVE HER BELONGINGS. LATER ATTEMPTS TO OPERATE THE DOOR FAILED, INCLUDING LOCKING/UNLOCKING WITH KEY, WITH INTERIOR UNLOCK BUTTON, WITH WINDOW UP AND DOWN AND WITH CAR ON AND OFF. I LATER LOOKED ONLINE ON A BMW FORUM TO FIND THE CULPRIT TO BE THE LOCK ACTUATORS BLOWING FUSE 56. I REPLACED FUSE 56 WITH THE APPROPRIATE FUSE, INCREASING THE 15 AMP TO A 20 AMP AT THAT TIME. ON 30 JUNE 2012 I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE WHILE ON VACATION IN OGUNQUIT, ME. ONCE AGAIN MY PASSENGERS WERE ALL LOCKED IN THE VEHICLE. THERE IS NO MANUAL OVERRIDE FOR THE 335I'S DOORS ONCE THE FUSE BLOWS. ALL THREE PASSENGERS WERE FORCED TO CLIMB THROUGH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, CREATING A DANGEROUS AND UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION. THIS TIME I REPLACED FUSE 57 AND IT SEEMED TO WORK JUST FINE AFTERWARDS. LASTLY, IT HAPPENED TWO DAYS AGO WITH JUST ME IN THE VEHICLE. I BROUGHT IT TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP (IN RHODE ISLAND) AND THEY TOLD ME ALL DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS WERE DEFECTIVE/FAULTY. THEY SAID I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE EVERY SINGLE DOOR ACTUATOR ON THE CAR, TOTALING A COST OF $1600. FOR OVER A YEAR NOW THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF. ORIGINALLY, IT WAS ONLY TURNING ON WHEN I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. NOW IT TURNS ON WITH OR WITHOUT A PERSON SO I'M STARTING TO THINK THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE IS MALFUNCTIONING TOO. IN ADDITIONAL THE SEATBELT LIGHT IS TURNING ON TOO NOW. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. I TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INDICATED THAT IT IS THE AIRBAG AND SEAT SENSORS THAT HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. EACH TO FIX IS OVER $500. THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR OWNERS AND TO WAIT FOR A SUPPOSABLY RECALL LETTER. HOWEVER, THAT WAS A YEAR AGO AND I NOW HAVE THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT LIGHT GOING OFF. THE FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR IN THE SEAT MAT HAS MALFUNCTIONED WHICH PRODUCES A FAULT IN THE PASSIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEM PREVENTING THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FROM DEPLOYING IN AN EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET, ON A HIGHWAY, AND WHEN TURNING. THERE IS NO DAMAGE OR EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR TO THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS USED NORMALLY AND AS INTENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I BELIEVE THE SEAT MAT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND NORMAL USAGE OF PEOPLE SITTING ON IT. OVER TIME THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT MAT FAILED AND POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE VEHICLE'S FRONT PASSENGER SINCE THE AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY DURING A COLLISION.

The contact owns a 2007 BMW X3. The contact stated that on various occasions when starting the vehicle, there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the failure recurred, and the vehicle was stalling. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V119000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced, and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer; however, the contact was informed that the recall remedy would not be completed due to the failures and was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 BMW X3. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THEN SPREAD TO THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GEICO INSURANCE AND IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE PCV HEATER VALVE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. PASSENGER AIRBAG RESTRAINT FAILURE - BMW'S, IN PARTICULAR 3 SERIES AND E90 MODELS, HAVE A KNOWN AND COMMON FAILURE WHERE THE SEAT BASED ELECTRICAL MAT FAILS IN THE PASSENGER SEATS. THIS IS NOT RELATED TO WEAR AND TEAR AS THE SEATS OFTEN GO UNUSED BUT SIMPLY FAIL AFTER A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME. THE ERROR CAUSES THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TO DEFAULT TO ALWAYS ON, WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH TO CHILDREN OR SMALL PASSENGERS IN THAT SEAT. TAKATA RECALL THE FIRST COMPLAINT IS THAT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE OR ALLOW ANYONE TO DRIVE A CAR WITH THIS AIRBAG RECALL WHICH HAS IN SOME CASES RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH. THE CAR IS THUS PARKED IN THE GARAGE WHILE THE DEALER TELLS ME THEY CAN'T GET THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS FOR 6 WEEKS AT LEAST WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE. WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 72 IN ILLINOIS, WE NOTED A LOW COOLANT LEVEL LIGHT. CHECKED THE OWNER'S MANUAL, AND IT STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT A MAJOR ISSUE, BUT WE SHOULD CHECK IT AT THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY. COINCIDENTALLY, THE OTHER PARTY WE WERE TRAVELING WITH ASKED IF WE WANTED TO STOP FOR COFFEE AT A LOCATION 1.5 MILES OFF THE INTERSTATE. WHEN WE STOPPED, THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT WENT OFF. BEFORE GETTING BACK ON THE ROAD, NOTICED THAT COOLANT WAS DRIPPING FROM THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. A REPAIR FACILITY WAS NEARBY, AND THEY INVESTIGATED THE LEAK AND DETERMINED THAT IT WAS EMANATING FROM A CRACK IN THE WATER PUMP. ALSO DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE CRACK WAS THE ENGINE SAGGING. FURTHER INVESTIGATION DETERMINED THAT A LOWER ENGINE MOUNTING BOLT WAS MISSING ENTIRELY. THIS WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE WATER PUMP, WHEN THE ENGINE WAS JACKED BACK INTO PROPER POSITION. AT THIS POINT IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE UPPER MOUNTING BOLTS HAD SHEARED OFF INSIDE THE ENGINE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. WE WERE ONE MOUNTING BOLT AWAY FROM THE ENGINE SAGGING EXCESSIVELY, LIKELY CAUSING DRIVE TRAIN SEIZURE.

Summary of complaint: We own a 2007 BMW X3 SUV that we have taken to the BMW Mt. Laurel NJ dealership for service since we bought the car over five years ago. On August 15th 2023, we took the car for a scheduled service and oil change. We paid $3000 + and brought the car back home first week of September when the car was purportedly repaired. My husband noticed that the car was not driving quite well. The steering was tight. When we called BMW they told us it might take a few drives for things to get back to normal. Then our 29 yr old daughter came from NYC where she resides to visit is for the weekend. On Sunday Sept 10th 2023, She went on an errand for us to Moorestown area. At a stop sign when she was not moving the car, the car started a spin in all directions. The oncoming vehicles thankfully avoided hitting her and she was able to come to a stop. Our daughter was terrified. After calming down she called to let us know what happened. She was so shaken up she barely managed to drive back home. We then called BMW right away when they opened on Monday and told them what happened. They came to pick up the car from our house to check it out and see why it spun out of control in circles. Then the service Dept called and said the car spun out of control due to a transfer case issue. I then questioned them why they did not properly diagnose this initially instead of us wasting $3000+ on repairs and still the car was not safe to drive. I then contacted Robert Durante the Asst service manager and he has not been too nice. BMW should do the right thing.I just paid over $3000 for car repairs in September and car did a spin out on Sept 10th less than two weeks after repairs was completed. The car was worse off when repairs was completed than when I brought it in. Way I see it, an inexperienced mechanic or a negligent mechanic worked on our car. I have NEVER had any problems with repairing our car with the dealer service department till this incident.

1. My car is very old and has 189,000 miles. Takata airbag recalls are now known and issued by the NHSTA, it shows that I have 6 recalls and BMW does not see the recalls. As well as my brakes they are super soft and the only thing I did for the brakes is replace new brake pads they are OEM and also my emergency parking brakes are not working. It is avaible for inspection. 2. My safety while driving the car is at risk because I dont know if the airbag will work or fail at any moment. 3. The problem has not been solved and BMW Seattle states that, "We do not see any recalls, and I am not saying that there isn't but because of the age of the car I don't know." BMW Seattle service receptionist states. 4. The vehichle has not been inspected for any safety recalls or notices. I have tried to call them about the safety and they always deny and say I dont know. 5. First it was the engine warning and now the low tire preasure light. But I always keep my car on top of things. But like I said 6 recalls that BMW don't see and I have called them about is very concerning for my safety and they safety of my passengers as well as kids that ride with me.

I just purchased a bmw x3 2007 the 2nd week of March 2022. Immediately, after driving home and parking the car. I turned the car off and the car began to make a loud noise and the engine start smoking very bad. I contacted bmw via email, and was told that there is not a remedy to the recalls effecting my car. The bmw x3 2007 is my only form of transportation and bmw cannot fix the problem. This car can catch on fire or worse kill me and children in the fire in the car. After research this is an ongoing problem with bmw. Bmw should be liable for any damages caused my this recall. I have car that i cannot drive because it is not safe to drive, by no fault of my own.

THE BMW 3 SERIES (MINE INCLUDED) IDENTIFIED BY CHASSIS DESIGNATIONS E90, E91, E92, AND E93 (ALL US MODELS) HAVE A KNOWN DEFECT REGARDING AUTOMATIC EXTERIOR MIRROR MOVEMENT WHEN UNLOCKING THE VEHICLE DOORS USING THE KEY FOB. THE MIRROR MOVEMENT OCCURS REGARDLESS OF WHICH KEY FOB IS PRESENTED TO UNLOCK DOORS. A SINGLE KEYFOB UNLOCK PROCESS CAN TRIGGER INNUMERABLE EXTERIOR MIRROR POSITIONS. THE UNSUSPECTING DRIVER WHO DOES NOT CHECK BOTH HIS/HER DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE MIRRORS PRIOR TO DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL BE REQUIRED TO SET THE PROPER MIRROR POSITIONS WHILE DRIVING OR LEAVE THEM MALADJUSTED UNTIL THE NEXT STOP, IMPAIRING THEIR ABILITY TO SEE VEHICLES ADJACENT OR ONCOMING VEHICLES FROM THE REAR, INCLUDING EMERGENCY VEHICLES. MY 2007 BMW 335I BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER DURING A DRIVE DOWN A STEEP GRADE. A BATTERY NOT CHARGING ERROR WOULD APPEAR ON DASH SHORTLY AFTER... HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STEEP HILL AND NEEDING TO BREAK HARD ON A TURN TO AVOID HITTING A DEAD ANIMAL ON THE ROAD I SMELLED BURNING RUBBER AND THEN HEARD A NOISE THIS NOISE I DISCOVERED LATER IN THE DAY WAS MY POWER STEERING BELT BREAKING. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING WENT OFF THE ROAD OUT OFF CONTROL DUE TO LOSE OF POWER STEERING AND ALMOST HIT A BIKE RIDER AND CAME VERY CLOSE TO GOING OFF THE SIDE OF ROAD. LATER THAT DAY I DECIDED TO GOOGLE MY PROBLEM AND SEE IF THERE WOULD BE AN EASY FIX TO THIS PROBLEM. I DISCOVERED THERE IS NOT AN EASY FIX FOR A BROKEN BELT ON MY MODAL OF CAR. I DISCOVERED THIS IS COMMON ON MANY BMW MODELS AND BMW IS AWARE OF IT SEE SIB 11-09-08. I QUICKLY DISCOVERED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY OWNER OUT THERE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS. BMW KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS NOT RECALLED ANY CARS. THERE DOCUMENTATION OF THE PROBLEM IS UNDER SIB 11-09-08. I WILL BE BRINGING MY CAR BACK TO DEALER TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM RESOLVE AND HOPE THEY FOLLOW THE SIB 11-09-08 WHICH NOTES NEW STYLE SUB FRAME REPLACEMENT WILL BE REQUIRED. I BELIEVE AN INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE MADE REGARDING POWER STEERING BELTS BREAKING. I BOUGHT MY BRAND NEW BMW X3 IN 2007. THERE WERE SMALL ISSUES IN THE PAST BUT WITHING MY MANUFACTURER WARRENTY PERIOD. I HAD MY REAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED ON JAN 23, 2012. ON JAN 30, 2012, WHEN I DROVE MY X3 OUT MY SUBDIVISON TO GO TO WORK, THE BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, AND 4/4 LIGHT ALL ON, PLUS LOAD CLUNK TYPE NOISE FROM REAR, IT WAS DIFFICAULT TO MAKE A U-TURN, MANAGED BACK TO HOME, CALLED BMW UNITEDBMW DEALER AND TOWED MY VEHICLE TO DEALER. THEY FIRST TOLD ME THAT IS SOFTWARE FAILURE, THEY WOULD TRY REPROGRAM TO FIX, THEN CALLED TO TELL THE RE-PROGRAM DID NOT WORK, IT WAS MECHANICAL TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR BROKEN, A NEW ONE MUST BE INSTALLED. THE TOTAL CHARGE FOR REPAIR (PART + LABOR - DISCOUNT) IS $2354.97. IT WAS IN THE DEALER FOR ONE WEEK. THE DEALER INSISTED THAT IT WAS MY BAD LUCK, NOT CAR'S OWN ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THE MILAGE IS LESS THAN 40K. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, FOUND THAT THERE ARE PLENTY OF SIMILAR CASES AND CLASS-ACTION LAWSUITS. LOOKS LIKE BMW (2007 AND 2008) MODELS HAVE LUBRICANT PROBLEM, LATER BMW SWITCHED WITH DIFFERENT LUBRICANT. INTERNET ESTIMATION SAYS THAT ~30% OF THE VEHICHLES (2007 & 2008) DEMONSTRATED THIS ISSUE. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO REMEDY THE SITUATION, BMW HAS BEEN UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE TRANSMISSION AND THE INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER AND MOST RECENTLY "LIMP-HOME" MODE OCCURRENCE ASSOCIATED WITH THE DRIVETRAIN ON THE 2007 BMW X3. THE SYMPTOMS 1ST PRESENTED ITSELF AS A LOSS OF POWER FROM A START. UPON PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND AND THEN RESPONDED WITH A SURGE OR LURCHING FORWARD. THIS MAKES FOR UNPREDICTABLE AND DANGEROUSLY ERRATIC VEHICLE PERFORMANCE. AFTER MULTIPLE VISITS (+4) AND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ALONG WITH THE SOUND OF GEAR OR DIFFERENTIAL NOISE, THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY DID SOME TYPE OF ECU UPDATE THAT APPEARED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE NOISE NEVER SUBSIDED AND RECENTLY THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE FORCING A TOW AFTER UPON PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE WENT INTO TRANSMISSION LIMP-MODE. AS USUAL, THE SYMPTOMS "CAN'T BE DUPLICATED" ONCE CODES ARE CLEARED YET THE ECU IS THROWING MULTIPLE CODES FOR TRANSMISSION LIMP-MODE AND CODE 56BE FOR CLUTCH GEARS 2 AND 6. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO EITHER PRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND FOR IT TO BE NON-RESPONSIVE THEN HAVE A DELAYED VEHICLE SURGE NOT PROPORTIONAL TO THE INPUT AND TIMING OF THE ACCELERATOR DEPRESSION AND/OR PRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND EXPERIENCE SIGNIFICANTLY CURTAILED VEHICLE POWER DUE TO THE "LIMP-HOME" CONDITION. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE ON 5/31/2009.

THE DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE MOMENTARILY BEFORE TURNING OFF WHEN THE BRAKES DISENGAGED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR FOR THE REMAINDER OF HIS DESTINATION WHILE DRIVING DOWN A WINDING ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT A FEW MONTHS PRIOR A PASSENGER WAS BURNED WHILE SEATED IN THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT WITH THE HEATED SEAT FEATURE TURNED ON. A HOLE WAS ALSO IN THE LEATHER SEAT AND THE PASSENGERS CLOTHING WERE ALSO BURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE HAD NOT RECURRED. TRANSMISSION OR TORQUE CONVERTER HAS SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS. WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL FROM LOW SPEEDS THERE IS BARELY ANY ACCELERATION IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR UNDER 2,000 RPMS, BUT WHEN 3RD GEAR GOES IN CAR ACCELERATES MORE THAN DESIRED MOST OF THE TIME. THIS IS MOST APPARENT WHEN CAR IS COLD, BUT NEVER GOES AWAY COMPLETELY. THIS REALLY BOTHERS ME AS THIS USUALLY HAPPENS DURING TURNS WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN AND WHEN YOU WANT TO ACCELERATE YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HARD TO PRESS ON THE PEDAL, IF YOU PRESS TOO MUCH CAR JUMPS AHEAD, IF NOT ENOUGH YOU BARELY MOVE. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP WHEN TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS YOU CAN HEAR A FAINT THUMP OF EVERY DOWNSHIFT SOMEWHERE UNDER THE VEHICLE AND A LITTLE SURGE FORWARD. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 (NA) BMW X3. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AUTOMATICALLY SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, BUT THEY FOUND NO FAILURES. THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SYSTEM BY TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND REMAINED LIT. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH FAILED. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED. THE CONTACT DROVE ONTO A CURVE AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED AND STUCK TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS PULLED. THE TRANSMISSION IS ALSO FAILING. DURING ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE PULLS BACKWARDS VIOLENTLY AND THE CONTACT'S HANDS RELEASED THE STEERING WHEEL. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS ALSO ILLUMINATE. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,300 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE TRANSMISSION ON THE 2007 BMW X3 (GM6 TRANSMISSION) HESITATES IN ACCELERATION DURING DRIVE MODE. IT HAS BECOME UNSAFE TO MAKE A FAST LANE CHANGE. I ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED TODAY. I LIVE IN A MOUNTAIN TOP COMMUNITY SO DRIVING DOWN HILL THE DOWN SHIFT IN MANUAL (STEPTRONIC) 4TH TO 3RD AND 3RD TO 2ND PRETTY MUCH ALLOWS THE CAR TO LUNG FORWARD AS IF IN NEUTRAL. IN RELYING ON THE TRANSMISSION TO SAFELY SLOW THE CAR IT PRACTICALLY FORCES YOU INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER CAR OR DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO SAFE SLOW THE CAR WITHOUT HAVING TO USE HARD BREAKING. BMW IN FIFE REFUSED TO EVEN TRY TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT.
