The contact stated that after the dealer had performed the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V119000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); the vehicle experienced a significant rough idle, and abnormal whistling and squealing sounds were coming from the engine while the contact was driving from the dealer parking lot. The contact drove back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the new PCV valve cover gasket had caused a vacuum leak. The dealer related the failure to the recall remedy. The dealer charged a fee for the repair. The contact declined to pay the fee because the recall repair was the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle had not experienced a failure before the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 119,940.

BMW is not addressing this recall in a timely manner. The history makes me think they're intentionally stalling the process and allowing customer engines to fail, reducing repair loads on their service centers. This VANOS bolt issue has been well-known and wide-spread for over a decade (see [XXX] for example), and BMW has been selectively recalling very narrow ranges of engines over this period. Now, they are claiming that parts are unavailable for this recall issued in Oct 2023 - 6 months ago. When I called their corporate office, they claimed parts should be available "any day now. 7-10 at the most," with no further explanation. My engine could blow up on the road at any moment. Since purchasing the vehicle (prior to the March 2022) recall, I have smelled a burning smell coming from the engine. I have spent thousands of dollars attempting to get rid of the smell. Come to find out it is due to the PCV valve. I have contacted BMW who informed me that there is a "RUMOR" that the remedy is in the works. A rumor? A neighbor who also owns/owned a BMW had their vehicle blow up in the driveway. I am VERY concerned for my safety and BMW has offered no help.

POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE HEATER: This recall involves an engine component known as the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve heater. The PCV valve heater may not have been produced to specifications which could lead to a short circuit. Safety Risk: Should a short circuit occur, the PCV valve heater could overheat, lead to smoldering, and possibly start melting. In extremely rare cases, this could increase the risk of a fire. The recall has been going on for six months and still as of today there is no remedy. I refuse to drive a vehicle that I'm currently still paying for or put myself and family at risk at the expense of the manufacture causing this issue and not having a solution for such a long time period.

IN NOVEMBER 2017, BMW SENT ME LETTERS REGARDING POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARDS DUE TO DEFECTS OF THE BLOWER MOTOR WIRING AND THE PCV VALVE HEATER (RECALL NUMBERS 17V-676 AND 17V-683). NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AND NO REPAIR OFFERED TO CORRECT POSSIBLE DEFECTS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED NO PROBLEM RELATED TO THESE PARTS. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE SERIOUS NATURE OF THESE ISSUES, BMW SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO RECALL AND REPAIR AFFECTED CARS PROMPTLY.

NOTICED THE PASSENGER SIDE BLINKER STARTED TO BLINK QUICKLY. THE BRAKES AND TAIL LIGHTS USE A BULB WHILE THE BLINKER HAS APPROXIMATELY 15 LEDS. THEREFORE THE ENTIRE LIGHT ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REPLACED. The contact owns a 2010 BMW X3. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, there was an abnormal growling sound coming from the engine. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the abnormal sounds intensified while depressing the accelerator pedal and would stop when the vehicle was idling. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to stop driving the vehicle. The contact veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there were bolts missing from the camshaft and in the engine compartment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would not cover the repair of the vehicle under an extended warranty as the failure did not occur within 10 years of owning the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 102,500.

No warnings. The car started smoking while driving down the interstate. Lost electrical and brakes at around 30 mph while trying to stop. My daughter had to roll out of the car while moving because my brakes wouldn’t stop. Finally slammed in park. Car was totaled.

REAR DRIVERS' SIDE DOOR WINDOW REGULATOR HAS FAILED TWICE LEAVING WINDOW STUCK OPEN AND INOPERABLE. WINDOW WAS BEING OPENED TO VENT INTERIOR AFTER BEING PARKED AND VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. FIRST TIME REPAIR WAS MADE UNDER CPO WARRANTY WITH ~39K MILES. SECOND REPAIR MADE FOR $750 (CPO WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED). SECOND REGULATOR FAILED AFTER LESS THAN 10K MILES, AND ONLY 22 MONTHS, FROM FIRST FAILURE. BMW SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAYS "IT HAPPENS." BMW DOES NOT HONOR THEIR 2-YR PARTS WARRANTY FOR PARTS REPLACED WHEN REPAIR IS DONE UNDER WARRANTY (AND THENCE EXPIRED). THE WINDOW REGULATOR(S) APPEAR TO BE A DEFECTIVE DESIGN TO BREAK SO FREQUENTLY. THE ACTUAL FAILURE APPEARS TO BE WITH THE "WINDOW REGULATOR DRIVING DOG"(ABOUT A $10 PART IF PURCHASED ONLINE) AND A TINY PLASTIC PIECE BREAKS OFF.

MANY DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING. TOOK TO BMW OF ROCKVILLE MD. THEY DIAGNOSED FAILURE OF "FAULTY STEERING ANGLE SENSOR AND COIL SPRING." THEY CONFIRMED THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THAT IT WAS NOTHING WE DID THAT CAUSED IT-- IT WAS A FAULTY PART. AFTER ONLY 33,000 MILES, TO HAVE A CRITICAL PART FAIL, SEEMS SERIOUS TO ME. THEY CHARGED US $2080.76 TO FIX, BECAUSE IT WAS OUTSIDE WARRANTY DUE TO AGE OF CAR. TO MY MIND IF A PART FAULT OR FAILURE OCCURS, THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, A RECALL ISSUE, NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE AND THE CARMAKER SHOULD FIX AND REPORT IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 3 SERIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, SMOKE STARTED TO EMIT FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONCE THE HOOD OF VEHICLE WAS OPEN, HE OBSERVED FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO STATED THE EMISSION VALVE OVERHEATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.

RECEIVED NOTICE IN JUNE 2014 REGARDING RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 14V-176: VANOS ASSEMBLY BOLTS. AFTER AN INITIAL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED, FROM BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC, I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FURTHER. A TELEPHONE CALL TO/FROM THE LOCAL BMW DEALER SUGGESTED THAT I BE PATIENT AND WAIT TO BE CONTACTED WHEN PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. THE LOCAL DEALER, BMW OF SARASOTA IS A SUPERIOR DEALERSHIP - I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS WITH THEM, ONLY COMPLIMENTS. HOWEVER, AN E-MAIL SENT TO BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS, AT THE ADDRESS CONTAINED IN THE RECALL NOTICE, WAS NOT RESPONDED TO. I WAS REQUESTING A STATUS UPDATE. MY CONCERN IS THAT A WALL STREET JOURNAL ARTICLE, O/A 8/4/2014, SUGGESTS NEGLIGENT FOLLOW-UP BY THE NHTSA REGARDING RECALLS. IT SUGGESTS THAT A WAIT TIME FOR REPAIRS OF UP TO TEN MONTHS OR MORE, WITH NO INTERVENTION BY THE NHTSA, IS THE NORM. I WAS EXITING A FREEWAY AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I PASSED THE VEHICLE AND ACCELERATED IN ORDER TO KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR BEHIND ME. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, WHEN I "PUT THE PEDAL TO THE METAL", I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER. MY CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER FOR ABOUT 5 - 8 SECONDS. THE CAR I HAD JUST PASSED NEARLY REAR-ENDED ME BECAUSE THEY DID NOT EXPECT ME PASS AND THEN REDUCE MY SPEED. I TOOK MY CARE TO THE BMW DEALER WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. THEY CHECKS OUT THE CAR (IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS OLD) AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE MORE OFTEN IN SPORT MODE. WE LEASED A NEW 2010 BMW 335D (DIESEL) ON 12/12/09. ON 2/28/10, THE CAR FAILED TO START FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER A VERY HEAVY RAIN AND WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY BMW DEALER. WE TOLD THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR THAT WE BELIEVED THERE WAS WATER IN THE SYSTEM RESULTING FROM THE RAIN. AFTER EXAMINING THE CAR, HE TOLD US THAT THE CAR'S FAILURE TO START TWICE AFTER A HEAVY RAIN WAS JUST A COINCIDENCE, THAT THERE WAS NO WATER IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF FAULTY GLOW PLUGS, WHICH WOULD TAKE A WHILE TO COME FROM GERMANY. HE ALSO INFORMED US THAT REPAIR EFFORTS WOULD BE FURTHER DELAYED BECAUSE NO DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA HAD TRAINED DIESEL MECHANICS AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO CONSULT A DIESEL EXPERT ON THE EAST COAST. WE PICKED UP THE CAR ON 3/11/10. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, THE CAR STARTED ERRATICALLY AND RAN POORLY, SO WE RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER A MONTH OF FAILING TO FIX THE CAR, THE DEALER INFORMED US THAT THEY HAD SENT THE FUEL TO A LAB TO BE TESTED (THIS LATER TURNED OUT TO BE FALSE) AND HAD DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS WATER IN THE FUEL, THAT THE PRESENCE OF WATER IN THE FUEL COULD ONLY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY US AND THAT WE WERE, THEREFORE, FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIRS. EXHAUSTIVE EFFORTS TO GET BMW TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM HAVE PROVEN USELESS. WE WILL FILE A "LEMON LAW" LAWSUIT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. SAFETY ISSUES: (1) OUR PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE OUR CAR HAPPENED TO BE STATIONARY. IF, AS WE BELIEVE, THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF THE RAIN, THE STRONG POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT OTHER BMW DIESEL CARS MIGHT STALL WHILE ON THE ROAD IN BAD WEATHER AND PERHAPS AT HIGH SPEEDS. (2) IT IS CLEAR THAT BMW IS SELLING ITS BMW DIESEL CARS WITHOUT HAVING IN PLACE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF TRAINED DIESEL MECHANICS, MEANING THAT OWNERS OF BMW DIESEL CARS HAVE NO ASSURANCE THAT THEIR CARS ARE BEING PROPERLY REPAIRED & MAINTAINED. THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT MISTAKES COULD BE MADE BY UNTRAINED MECHANICS WHICH COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. *TR
