The contact owns a 2009 Buick Lucerne. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine failed to turn over. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that upon inspection he became aware that one of the relays from the electric fuel pump under the rear passenger’s seat needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the fuel pump relay prong base had melted due to overheating. In addition, the contact stated that the fuse was a 10.01 AMP instead of a 5 AMP which could have caused the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred 2 days later. The manufacturer was made not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

Fuel pump relay keeps burning out.

failed fuel pump relay and melted fuse block. Car would not start in garage. Knew this vehicle is known to have this issue and when investigating the failure to start the first thing I checked was the fuel pump relay and fuse block and sure enough that was the issue. Common issue that Buick never addressed adequately.

Vehicle was no start. Dealer found fuel pump relay bad on 10/05/201. Next time using vehicle same problem. On 10/20/2021 dealer service department diagnosed bad fuse box. The fuse box is located under the rear passenger seat. It was extremely hot and melting. Fortunately no fire, this time.

The car died suddenly and would not start, with no warnings or codes. Towed it to a Midas repair shop and it was diagnosed as a corroded Low Profile Fuel Pump relay. This was replaced, and the car ran fine for 3 days before going dead in the middle of driving and left me stranded in an intersection. Had to get it towed back to Midas where it was more accurately diagnosed that the issue with the relay was being caused by a faulty Rear Electrical Center. Both of these parts have been recalled, and I have only owned this car for a little over a year. It has only around 40,000 miles on it. Despite this recall, upon taking the car to the local Buick dealership, they stated they could not cover the recall due to it being expired before I even owned the car. I do not understand how it is right or fair for this to have to be paid out of pocket, for $183.53 and $818.81 respectively, when it is not my fault, it is a faulty GM parts issue, and GM stated they will not stand behind their product and cover the recall despite the evident risk to my safety if I was to continue driving the car without repair. I understand it is expired, but I fail to see how this is ethical when the part is still faulty to the point of being dangerous.

Fuel Pump relay fuse is getting burnt up and not allowing car to start. This is a known problem and Nhtsa has already made a recall but mine isn’t recalled. The fuse box or fuse holder under the back seat had the fuel pump relay fail due to pressure on the fuse box lid from the seat above it. This is a known issue by Buick as they keep the fuse box in stock (for about $300) I have owned two similar Lucernes with this issue. The fuel pump relay caused enough heat to melt into the fuse box, causing a disconnection. This caused the fuel pump to stop pumping, causing the car to stop running. The problem can be confirmed by calling any Buick dealer. I'm sure they have had several examples of this issue besides my pair. There are many examples mentioned on the internet, as well as videos as to how to fix it. There are no warning lamps prior to the failure. The engine dies and refuses to restart.

Fuel pump relay under vehicles back seat fried out due to the back seat hitting the fuse box cover and grounding out the fuel pump relay. My child was in the back seat and said there was smoke coming from the back seat and the fuse box nearly caught on fire. After reading online I am appalled that this has not been recalled yet. There was 0 warning, no lights on dash, I did not file a police report or do anything with my insurance as there was no accident. Just a car bomb manufactured by GM

AFTER BEING DRIVEN NORMALLY ALL DAY, THE CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN WOULDN'T CRANK PROPERLY AFTER BEING PARKED FOR A FEW HOURS. THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO A CAR SHOP. ACCORDING TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, THE BACK SEAT PRESSED ON THE WIRING THAT, IN TURN, BURNED UP THE ELECTRIC PANEL AND THE FUEL PUMP. DUE TO THIS, THE ELECTRIC PANEL AND THE FUEL PUMP NEED TO BE REPLACED.

THE VEHICLE IS LEAKING FUEL DOWN THE SIDES OF THE GAS TANK AND THERE IS POOLING OF FUEL AROUND THE FUEL PUMP ON THE TANK , ALSO ON THIS VEHICLE THE EXHAUST PIPE RUNS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAS TANK. IT LASTS FOR A FEW SECONDS , BUT TOSE FEW SECONDS COULD BE A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE TRAFFIC IS HEAVY.THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL TO PARK I LOST POWER AND ALMOST HIT A PARKED CAR, I HAD TO WRESTLE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN IT AND PARK THE CAR. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START - HAD IT TOWED TO SHOP - THEY PUT IT ON MACHINE - SHOWED FUEL PUMP WAS OUT - PUT IN A NEW RELAY, FUEL PUMP, ETC. DID NOT SOLVE PROBLEM. FOUND LATER THAT FUEL BOX, RELAY FRIED, PARTIALLY MELTED AREA ON FUSE BOX . FIRE HAZARD. ENDING UP PAYING OVER $1000 FOR REPAIRS. HAVE BEEN TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE CAR AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS. ALSO TOLD THAT PROBABLY WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS. PLEASE HELP. ON APRIL 27 WHILE WE WERE DRIVING ON I-94 E IN OUR 2009 BUICK LUCERNE WITH 6,127 MILES ON IT. WHILE PULLING BACK ON I-94 THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL AND WE HELD THE BRAKES DOWN TO THE FLOOR BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP IT. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND GET OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT THE CAR WAS STILL WIDE OPEN. I HAVE NOTIFIED GM AND THEY SENT US ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT PEOPLE UNTIL IT FINALLY WAS SENT TO THE GM EXECUTIVE OFFICE. THEY ARE STILL REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IF. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR AND AN AUTHORIZED DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE CONTROL MODULE. WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED, THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN ENGINEER TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINEER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE BELIEVES THE FAILURE INVOLVES THE STABILITRAK STABILITY CONTROL WHICH WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE WITH HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,200.

The contact owns a 2009 Buick Lucerne. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the fuel pump relay overheated and burned the fuse box. The accelerator pedal and steering wheel became inoperable. The contact was able to control the vehicle and park the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact replaced the relay, but the vehicle failed to start. The contact called the local dealer and was advised to schedule an appointment for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

TECHNICIAN DISMOUNTED THE TIRE FROM THE RIM AND DISCOVERED THAT THE CHROME PLATING ON THE RIM WAS FLAKING OFF AND HAD A GAP BETWEEN THE RIM AND THE VALVE STEM ALLOWING AIR TO LEAK FROM THE TIRE. OPTIONS WERE TO EITHER RE-CHROME THE RIM OR PURCHASE REPLACEMENT RIM. ALSO, TIRE NEEDED REPLACEMENT DUE TO BEING RUN UNDERINFLATED. RESULT: PURCHASED 4 NEW RIMS (NOT CHROME PLATED) AND A NEW TIRE. I OWN A 2009 BUICK LUCERNE THAT I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE ON RANDOM OCCASSIONS. ON ANOTHER OCCASION THE VEHICLE STALLED ON HIGHWAY 49 IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IT FAILS TO START, SOME RELAYS ARE HOT EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS OFF, FUEL RELAY HAS BEEN REPLACE 4 TIMES AND IT GETS EXTRA HOT AND WILL ALMOST BURN YOUR HAND, THE FUSE BOX IS MELTED PARTLY AND HAS A BURNING SMELL. THE FUEL PUMP VOLTAGE WAS CHECKED AND IS GOOD. ON THE LAST TRY TO CRACK NOW THE DRIVER DOOR WINDO AND DOOR LOCK IS NOT WORKING. THERE IS NO CORRISON UNDER THE FUSE BOX. BUICK DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL OUT ON THE FUSE BOX OR RELAY. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED 25 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DECLINES TO PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION REGARDING THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

BOUGHT CAR WITH RAIN SENSITIVE WINDSHIELD WIPERS 7/09. REPLACED WINDSHIELD WITH RAIN SENSITIVE GLASS 7/10 DUE TO LARGE CRACK IN WINDSHIELD FROM A STONE OR ROCK. SEPT. 2010 I NOTED THAT THE AUTOMATIC WIPERS DIDN'T ALWAYS COME ON WHEN IT STARTED RAINING BUT I COULD MAKE THEM WORK MANUALLY IN THE HIGH SPEED SETTING ONLY. WHEN CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT GM DEALERSHIP, THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE COULD NOT FIX IT. IN MARCH 2011, SERVICE TECH NOTED THAT WINDSHIELD GLASS WAS NOT STAMPED AS GM GLASS. SAID THEY COULD NOT CALL GM TECH SUPPORT OR CHECK THE SWITCH UNTIL WINDSHIELD IS REPLACED WITH OEM GLASS. I ELECTED NOT TO PURCHASE AS NEW WINDSHIELD AT THIS TIME. THE INTERMITTENT WIPER PROBLEM CONTINUED AND BECAME INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS IN ICE AND SNOW DRIVING. IN MARCH 2012 I HAD A NEW WINDSHIELD INSTALLED AT THE GM DEALERSHIP. THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE WIPER PROBLEM. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME THEY CALLED GM TECH SUPPORT AND WERE ADVISED TO REPLACE THE MOTOR, WHICH THEY DID. THE AUTOMATIC WIPERS WORKED CORRECTLY UNTIL OCT. 2012 WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I WAS ADVISED THAT MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS NEEDED REPLACED AND I TOLD THEM TO GO AHEAD AND DO IT. TWO DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, THE WIPERS AGAIN DIDN'T COME ON AUTOMATICALLY. AGAIN, I COULD MANUALLY SWIPE THE WINDSHIELD ON HIGH SPEED ONLY. IN NOV. 2012 I TOOK CAR BACK TO SERVICE DEPT AT DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AS THE WIPERS WERE WORKING CORRECTLY ON THAT DAY. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT CALL GM TECH SUPPORT FOR ADVICE. WHICH LEADS ME TO FEELING LIKE I'M DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE---NEVER KNOWING IF THE WIPERS ARE GOING TO WORK CORRECTLY..

THE BUICK WAS IN MY GARAGE WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE HOUSE, BEFORE GOING TO BED I ALWAYS OPEN THE DOOR TO THE GARAGE TO BE SURE THE GARAGE DOOR IS DOWN AND THE FLAG IS INSIDE. DID SO THAT NIGHT AND ALL WAS NORMAL. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR TO THE GARAGE TO PUT THE BIG DOOR UP AND THE FLAG OUT THE GARAGE WAS VERY WARM. NO OTHER INDICATION OF A PROBLEM, ASSUMED HE FURNACE HAD ACTED UP. WE TOOK THE CAR TO HAVE BREAKFAST DID NOTICE THE HOOD WAS VERY WARM AS IF THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING (I DO NOT HAVE A SENSE OF SMELL SO DID NOT SMELL AN EXHAUST) FUEL WAS VERY LOW ( I WONDERED IF THERE WAS ENOUGH TO GET TO A SERVICE STATION) FILLED HE CAR HAD BREAKFAST THEN CAME HOME NOT APPARENT PROBLEMS. 2009 BUICK LUCERNE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDING BRAKE ROTOR ISSUES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED VIOLENTLY. THE NEXT DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE FRONT ROTORS WERE WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED AND THE FRONT PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED NOT LESS THAN A MONTH PRIOR, EVERYTHING CHECK OUT FINE AND NOW 536 MILES LATER THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE CONSUMER NOT DOWN SHIFTING PROPERLY WHILE DRIVING ON DOWN GRADES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BUICK LUCERNE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS FRONT HEAD REST WERE NOT ALIGNED WITH THE SEATS. IF THE SEAT WAS IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION, THE HEAD REST WOULD UNCOMFORTABLY PUSH THE OCCUPANTS HEAD FORWARD. IN ADDITION, THE HEAD REST WERE DESIGNED EXTREMELY BIG WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SEE WHILE CHANGING LANES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,000.

MY WIFE WAS STOPPED WAITING FOR A CAR TO LEAVE A PARKING SPOT. SHE HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE READY TO PUT IT IN PARK. THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD AND SHE COULD NOT STOP IT WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. SHE HIT A BUILDING AND 3 VEHICLES BEFORE SHE WAS STOPPED BY THE 3RD VEHICLE. SHE WAS HEADED FOR ANOTHER PART OF THE BUILDING WHEN SHE STOPPED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.THERE WAS LESS THAN 600 MILES ON THE CAR. FORTUNATELY NO WAS INJURED BADLY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BUICK LUCERNE. AFTER JUST PURCHASING THE VEHICLE WITH 400 MILES, IT DEVELOPED HEADLIGHT FAILURE WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND KEPT FLIPPING THE SWITCH UP AND DOWN UNTIL THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR TIMES WHILE DRIVING HOME WITHIN A 45 MILE RADIUS. ONLY THE HIGH BEAMS WOULD ACTIVATE. THE CONTACT DOES NOT WANT TO DRIVE AROUND WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ACTIVATED ALL NIGHT.
