I HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH VIBRATION ON CADILLAC SEVILLE STS WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN BETWEEN 50 AND 75 MPH AND NO GM DEALER COULD FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT WITH THE CAR AND GM HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT, I STARTED HAVING BACKACHE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM ALSO CHECK THIS WEBSITE A LOT OF CADILLAC OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM. THE COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. I PURCHASED A 2002 CADILLAC SEVILLE SLS WITH 29000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT HAD A TERRIBLE VIBRATION THAT COMES THROUGH THE SEAT AND THE STEERING WHEEL. I BALANCED THE TIRES 3 TIMES, ALIGNED IT, REPLACED ROTORS AND FINALLY REPLACED THE CADILLAC WHEELS AND TIRES THAT CAME ORIGINALLY FROM THE FACTORY. THE VIBRATIONS ARE THE SAME. ACCORDING TO A WEB SITE I FOUND, AT LEAST SEVEN OTHER SEVILLES ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE SPENT OVER $1500 SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 04 AND HAVE NOT FOUND THAT TIRES AND WHEELS ARE THE PROBLEM. THE CAD DEALER HAS NOT A CLUE AS TO WHAT TO DO FOR ME. 2002 CADILLAC DEVILLE, CLICKING IN RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING. DEALING CHECKED BEARING, FOUND IT TO BE BAD, AND NOTED THAT LEFT FRONT WAS ALSO GOING BAD. REAR BEARING REPLACED, FRONT BEARING TIGHTED, DEALER SUGGESTED PERIODIC CHECKS, MAY NEED REPLACEMENT IN FUTURE. THIS CALL IS LESS THAT 3 YEARS OLD, 60K MILES, BEARING SHOULD NOT BE GOING BAD. THIS CAR WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT, NOR CURBS STRUCK, NOT WAS IT SETTING UN-USED FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. THESE ARE SCENARIOS THE DEALER TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHY WHEEL BEARING WENT BAD WITH 60K MILES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CADILLAC SEVILLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 CADILLAC SLS THE IGNITION JUST SHUT OFF THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING I CAME TO A STOP AND PUT MY CAR IN PARK. AT THE POINT I HAD TO REMOVE MY KEY AND PUT IT BACK IN TO START MY CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE WHILE GOING 65 MPH WE HAD TO COME TO A STOP AND REMOVE THE KEY TO START THE CAR. THIS ALSO HAPPENS SOME TIMES AFTER I DRIVE A SHORT DISTANCE MY CAR WILL NOT START RIGHT AWAY. I HAVE CALLED GM AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AFTER THE LARGE RECALL ON THE IGNITION RECALL THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT IN THE RECALL. WHEN SLOWING AT ABOUT 20 MPH TO 3 MPH THE VEHICLE JUST DIES. NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES, ALL ELECTRICAL IN THE VEHICLE STOPS WORKING. THE VEHICLE WILL START AGAIN ONCE STOPPED, PLACED IN PARK OFTEN HAVING TO REMOVE THE KEY AND PUTTING IT BACK. AFTER OVER THREE MONTHS AND OVER 1500 MILES, WORKING WITH THE DE LA FUENTE CADILLAC DEALERSHIP, HAVING A RED BUTTON ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO PUSH WHEN THIS HAPPENED THEY FINALLY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND LOCK CYLINDER PART NUMBERS 12369550 AND 25725312 AT A COST OF $615.73 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT WOULD JUST STOP, IT WOULDN'T START WHILE MOVING. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR STOP WHERE I WAS AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THEN IT WOULD RESTART. ONLY TO STOP AGAIN, EVERY THING WENT DEAD, LIGHTS, ENGINE, INTERIOR GAGES EVERYTHING. LOST POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AIR BAGS, EVERYTHING STOPPED. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE CADILLAC DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW. THE PROBLEM WENT ON FOR OVER A YEAR BEFORE THEY FOUND THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH (KEY TYPE) WAS THE PROBLEM AND ONCE REPLACED THE CAR HAS FUNCTIONED WELL SINCE. BUT I FOUND MYSELF ONLY DRIVING ON SIDE STREETS KEEPING THE VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEEDS AND OFTEN NOT DRIVING IT FOR WEEKS AT A TIME WHILE THE DEALERSHIP WORKED ON THE VEHICLE TRYING TO FIX IT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CADILLAC SEVILLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. A "LOW COOLANT" LIGHT APPEARED ON MY 2002 CADILLAC SLS (4.6L NORTHSTAR VIN-Y). WHILE PARKED STEAM/SMOKE (SMALL AMOUNT) BEGAN RISING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND A SMALL PUDDLE OF COOLANT WAS FOUND BELOW VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS DISCOVERED. MECHANIC STATED THIS WAS VERY ODD. VEHICLE HAS 103K MILES. WATER PUMP GASKET WAS REPLACED AT 65K MILES, HEAD GASKETS, THERMOSTAT & RADIATOR WERE REPLACED AT 78K MILES AND WATER PUMP CLAMP/HOSE REPLACED AT 83K MILES. ALL THESE REPAIRS WERE MADE BY THE DEALERSHIP WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. NO OTHER REPAIRS (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) WERE MADE TO THE ENGINE/COOLING SYSTEM. *TR

HEAD BOLTS PULLED OUT OF BLOCK ON A 2002 CADILLAC WITH A NORTHSTAR ENGINE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THE CAR HAD 74,000 MILE AND WAS FIXED UNDER THE VEHICLES EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE 2ND TIME IT HAPPENED THE CAR HAD 87,000 ON IT AND THE SAME HEAD BOLT THAT WAS FIXED FAILED. THE ENGINE WAS NOT REPAIRABLE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE STARTED TO FEEL AS IF THE STEERING WAS A LITTLE LOOSE A FEW MONTHS AGO, AT ONE POINT I THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT TIRE, BUT I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A TIRE SHOP AND THEY VERIFIED MY TIRES WERE FINE AND THEY COULD NOT SEE ANY VISIBLE PROBLEMS OR LEAKS. ABOUT A WEEK LATER I WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 610 AND I TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN TRYING TO SWITCH LANES, AND ALMOST SIDE SWIPED A TRUCK. THE LOSS OF CONTROL WAS ONLY DURING THE TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL, I GAINED CONTROL WHEN I STRAIGHTENED THE STEERING WHEEL AND CONTINUED ON HOME. ON OCTOBER 13, 2012 I GOT INTO MY CAR AND PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, AND THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WAS EVEN MORE LOOSE. I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND THE FRONT END MADE A CLUNK SOUND AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHIFTED UPWARDS WHEN I PROCEEDED TO TURN THE WHEEL. A MECHANIC VERIFIED THAT A MISSING BOLT DAMAGED THE MOUNTING STRAP, WHICH ALSO DAMAGED THE RACK AND PINION. *TR

THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT CAUSES SIGNIFICANT BINDING/RATCHETING FEEDBACK THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL WHENEVER IT IS TURNED. CADILLAC HAS ISSUED SEVERAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THIS PROBLEM. AT 45,000 MILES (FEB 2004), PER THE SB, THE DEALER LUBRICATED THE SPLINES OF THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. AT 75,000 MILES THE PROBLEM RETURNED. PER THE DEALER, CADILLAC REDESIGNED THE SHAFT AND BEGAN REPLACING THE ORIGINAL PART PER A NEW SB. THE NEW PART HOWEVER ALSO FAILED TO CORRECT THE BINDING/RATCHETING. CADILLAC THEN ISSUED ANOTHER SB AND RETURNED TO LUBRICATING THE SPLINES WHETHER THE OLD OR NEW DESIGN SHAFT IS INSTALLED. CADILLAC CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISES THE CAR OWNER MUST TAKE "OWNERSHIP" OF THIS PROBLEM, NO ASSISTANCE OR PERMANENT SOLUTION IS AVAILABLE. THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS LUBRICATED BY THE DEALER A SECOND TIME AT THE OWNER'S COST. THE LUBRICATION OF THE SHAFT IS NOT IDENTIFIED AS A REGULAR MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENT. CADILLAC HAS REPEATEDLY FAILED TO PROVIDE A PROPER RESOLUTION, PROVIDING ONLY A BAND AID FIX AND NOW PASSES THE RESPONSIBILITY TO THE INDIVIDUAL OWNER. THE PROBLEM WILL BE EXACERBATED AS THESE VEHICLES AGE AND CADILLAC HAS REPEATEDLY FAILED TO RESPONSIBLY ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. *JB

I HAVE A 2002 CAD. STS WITH 81,000 MILES. ABOUT 2WEEKS AGO THE WARNING LIGHT STATING CHECK BRAKE FLUID. I CHECKED IT AND ADDED SOME. IT DID IT AGAIN A WEEK LATER BUT THE BRAKES ALMOST FAILED. I TOOK IT TO A GMC DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE BRAKE LINE BROKE BECAUSE IT WAS RUBBING ON THE TRANSMISSION. HE TOLD ME HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND WHO WORKED AS SERVICE MANAGER FOR A GMC DEALER AND HE STATED HE HAD NEVER SEEN THAT HAPPEN. HE GAVE ME A PHONE AT GMC TO CALL. THE # 800-458-8006 THEY GAVE ME A SERVICE #. I RECEIVED A CALL BACK FROM 866-790-5700 X21073. AFTER 2 DAYS THE MAN TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT HELP ME CAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS 8 YEARS OLD AND HAD 81,000 MILES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CADILLAC STS. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BRAKING PROPERLY WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC FOUND HOLES IN THE BRAKE LINE THAT WERE THREE INCHES APART, WHICH RUBBED AGAINST THE HOUSING FOR THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT SHE MUST TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO CONFIRM THAT THE FAILURE EXISTED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER, BUT THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW IF SHE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. SHE BELIEVES THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 66,700.

I OWN A 2002 CADILLAC STS AND JUST HAD THE BRAKES FAIL , BUT FORTUNATELY NOT IN A WAY THAT THERE WAS A CRASH. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE WRITER AT SAINT CLARE CADILLAC IN SANTA CLARA, CA THAT THE BRAKE LINE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE FRONT BRAKES FAILED DUE TO A DEFECTIVE CLIP. HE STATED THAT THIS WAS THE FOURTH CAR THIS MONTH THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE PLASTIC CLIP COMES LOOSE AND THE BRAKE LINE RUBS AGAINST THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING AND EVENTUALLY FAILS. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THIS FAILURE HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY AS I LIVE IN A MOUNTAIN AREA OF SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA. THE BRAKE FAILED BY PUMPING FLUID OUT OF THE HOLE EVERY TIME THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED UNTIL THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT FLUID TO KEEP THE PEDAL FROM GOING TO THE FLOOR. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I HAD A PROBLEMS WITH THE ROTORS SO I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE TURNED AND THAT IT WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY. THEY WERE TURNED BACK IN OCTOBER 2003. NOW THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND THE PROBLEM MUST BE THE ROTORS. THE DEALER STILL DOESN'T CLAIM THAT IT'S A DEFECT BUT I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR ACT LIKE THIS. THE CAR IS A 2002 CADILLAC SEVILLE. *AK

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THIS YEAR, MOST RECENTLY TODAY (3/22/14), THE ENGINE ON MY 2003 (?) CADILLAC SLS ABRUPTLY CUT OFF, SIMILAR TO THE MUCH-PUBLICIZED RECENT FAILURES ON GM'S 2003-11 COMPACT CARS. MY CAR IS NO COMPACT, BUT I'M WONDERING IF IT USES THE SAME IGNITION COMPONENTS. IN ANY EVENT, WE WERE LUCKY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, I REFERRED THE CAR TO MY TRUSTED MECHANIC, AND HE COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. ONE FURTHER NOTE: WHEN THE ENGINE CUT OFF TODAY, ONLY *ONE* KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION, SO IT WAS *NOT* A MATTER OF THE SWITCH BEING "WEIGHED DOWN" BY AN OVERLOADED KEY CHAIN. I RESIDE IN MINNESOTA AND THE D.O.T. USES SALT ON THE ROADS DURING THE WINTER SEASON AND THIS HAS SIGNIFICANTLY ACCELERATED CORROSION OF VEHICLES AND THEIR EXPOSED COMPONENTS. MATERIALS USED FOR CRITICAL COMPONENTS ON VEHICLES MUST WITHSTAND THIS FACTOR OR LIVES MAY BE LOST DUE TO THIS CORROSION, FAILURE OF THE SUB-FRAME CRADLE WILL BE CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL . THE MANUFACTURES USE OF SUBSTANDARD METALS IN ITS SUB-FRAMES IS THE REASON FOR THIS VEHICLES INSTABILITY ISSUES. WHILE STOPPED BEHIND 3 VEHICLES AT A STOPLIGHT I FLORIDA A FEMALE WHO SAID SHE WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH DRIVING HER HUSBANDS STICK SHIFT VEHICLE STALLED OUT. TWO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME PULLED AROUND HER WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, THIS LEFT ABOUT TWENTY FEET BETWEEN MY CAR AND HERS. SHE ACCIDENTALLY PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND BACKED INTO MINE AT ABOUT 15 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN I STARTED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR SHE PULLED FORWARD FIFTEEN TO TWENTY FEET BEFORE THE ENGINE OF HER CAR QUIT. AS I WATCHED TO SEE WHAT SHE WAS DOING SHE GOT THE CAR STARTED AND PUT IT IN REVERSE AGAIN HITTING MY CAR AGAIN. VEHICLE WILL START TO SHAKE WHEN DRIVING OVER 40 MPH. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DEALER TRIED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD A NEW DRIVESHAFT, A NEW WINSHIELD WAS APPLIED DUE TO A CHIP IN THE INSIDE OF WINDSHIELD, THE WHEEL HAD BEEN BENT/REPLACED, BALANCED/ALIGNED AND ADDED A NEW RIM, AND SUPPOSEDLY A NEW SET OF TIRES FROM CADILLAC-BUT HAD THE SAME MARKINGS OF THE OLD TIRES/SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF. WITH ALL REPAIR AND MAINTENENCE MADE ON THE VEHICLE, THE VIBRATION STILL EXSISTS AND SEEMS TO GET WORSE(THE LONGER THE TRIP AND WHEN GOING AROUND CURVES/STRAIGHTENING OUT). THE ENGINE WHINES WHEN YOU ACCELERATE AND DECREASES WHEN SLOWED, ALSO THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A BIG CLUNK NOISE AND LUNGES WHEN IT FIRST SHIFTS. *SCC
