WHEN STARTING THE MALIBU THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATE AND WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED TO START THE CAR THE LIGHTS GO OUT AND THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO ZERO OR EMPTY AND THE CAR WILL NOT START. THIS PROBLEM ALSO OCCURS WHEN DRIVING THE CAR AND THE IGNITION SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN LEAVING YOU WITH NO STEERING ASSIST AND THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. SO THIS PROBLEM IS BOTH IN A STANDING START AND WHILE OPERATING THE CAR. I HAD INITIALLY BROUGHT THE CAR TO DEVAN LOWE GM DEALER AND SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR REPAIRS AND THEY DISCOVERED THE FUEL PUMP WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND THE PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION IS STILL PERSISTING. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS CONDITION FOR THE DRIVER AND OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD. I WOULD REQUEST THAT GMC HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEVAN LOWE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR TROUBLESHOOTING PURPOSES IN COORDINATION WITH GM TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT AND REACH A RESOLUTION AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND ISSUE A RECALL FOR ALL AFFECTED CARS.

VEHICLE STARTS AND FULLY OPERATES PROPERLY FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD OF TIME, THEN IT STALLS ABRUPTLY (AND AT VERY EMBARRASSING AND PERILOUS TIMES). WHEN IT DOES, ALL THE GAUGES ARE NON-OPERATIONAL, WITH THE FUEL GAGE READING, EMPTY. VEHICLE WILL CRANK BUT WILL NOT RESTART. AFTER A PERIOD (AS LONG AS HALF AN HOUR) THE FUEL GAGE WILL JUMP TO ITS PROPER LEVEL, AND ONLY THEN WILL THE VEHICLE RESTART AND RUN FOR YET ANOTHER INDETERMINATE PERIOD. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON-GOING PROBLEM FOR MONTHS, BEFORE I WAS MADE AWARE OF POTENTIAL RE-CALLS ON THIS VEHICLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED FRIENDLY CHEVROLET (7501 HWY 65 NE, FRIDLEY, MN 55432, (612) 276-2955), BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

TURN SIGNALS DO NOT WORK INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY WILL WORK OR NOT WORK. IT CAN HAPPEN ANY PLACE, AND TIME. DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. BELOW DATE IS THE MOST RECENT TIME IT HAPPENED. WILL FOR LONG TIME, THEN OUT OF NO WHERE, TURN SIGNAL WILL NOT WORK. THEN WORK AGAIN, UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN.

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. JUST BOUGHT 2001 CHEVY MALIBU, ITS LEAKING COOLANT AND THE ENGINE IS OVERHEATING TO THE POINT OF SMOKE. SO THE GASKET IS SHOT, I'VE TAKEN THIS CAR IN BEFORE OVER THIS PROBLEM BUT STILL SEEMS TO COME BACK TO THE CAR OVERHEATING AND SMOKE. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS ONE GUY TOLD ME TO JUST GET A NEW ENGINE, THE COOLANT DIAGNOSTIC DIDN'T HELP AND ALL OF MY COOLANT CAN'T SEEM TO STAY IN THERE IT JUST LEAKS AS SOON AS IT'S IN, SO NOW WHAT??? THERE SHOULD HAVE DEFINITELY BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS GM NEEDS TO FIX THIS CONSIDERING MY ENGINE WAS TESTED AND REFURBISHED BY CHEVY NO MORE THAN 8 MONTHS AGO AT THE DEALER. BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES IN LAST YEAR. THERE HAVE BEEN CONTINUAL FAILURES WITH THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS. WHEN BRAKING IT APPEARED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM THAT WAS DESIGNED TO ELIMINATE BRAKING LOCK UPS WAS ENGAGING WHEN IT WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO. BRAKES WERE WEARING AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH RATE , WHICH WAS WARPING THE ROTORS WHICH HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BRAND NEW. PULSATING NOISE WAS COMMON ALONG WITH SCRAPING AND SPONGY BRAKE PEDAL. IN RESEARCHING IT APPEARED THAT THE MALIBU HAD AN EXTENSIVE HISTORY OF BRAKE FAILURES IN A SHORT TIME. SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY MALIBU AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY TURN SIGNALS PERIODICALLY NOT WORKING. SOME DAYS THE SIGNAL WILL NOT WORK ONE TIME AND THEN THE VERY NEXT TIME IT WORKS. OTHER DAYS THE SIGNALS WILL NOT WORK AT ALL'BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT. I TURN THEM "ON" AND THEY JUST DON'T WORK. SOMETIMES IT WILL CLICK A FEW TIMES AND THEN TURN OFF. THIS WILL LAST FOR ABOUT A DAY OR SO AND THEN THEY WORK OK FOR ABOUT A MONTH SOMETIMES LONGER. I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND A CORRELATION BETWEEN ANYTHING SUCH AS RAIN, USING IT A LOT, ETC. IT CAN'T BE THE BULB OR THE FUSE BECAUSE WHEN THEY DO WORK THEY BLINK AT THE NORMAL SPEED. ALSO THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT THE BLINKER STARTED WORKING AGAIN, SO I CANCELED. I STARTED RESEARCHING ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THERE IS A RECALL FOR CARS MANUFACTURED IN 2001 WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM, THE RECALL NOTICE SAID THE HAZARD SWITCH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS SUGGESTED IN ONE ARTICLE WHEN THE SIGNALS STOP WORKING TO PUSH THE HAZARDS AND THE SIGNAL WILL START WORKING AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED FOR ME. I CAN FIDDLE WITH THE HAZARD AND GET THEM TO START WORKING. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM WITH MY BLINKERS ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT MY VIN NUMBER FALLS OUTSIDE THAT RANGE. THIS IS A TRAVESTY. WHY IS IT ONLY SOME ARE BEING RECALLED AND REPAIRED WITH THE PROBLEM, BUT NOT ALL? HOW IS THIS DECIDED WHICH WILL BE RECALLED AND WHICH WILL NOT? WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN VEHICLE IS TRAVELING UPWARD ON AN INCLINE, THE TRANSMISSION CAUSES "LUNGING" OF THE VEHICLE. CAR WOULD LUNGE THAN BACK OFF TRYING TO MAINTAIN THE CURRENT SPEED IF THE VEHICLE. I COULD OBSERVE THE SURGES ON THE RPM GAUGE, AS IT WOULD FLUCTUATE UP AND DOWN BETWEEN 2200 AND 2400 RPM WHILE LUNGING WAS TAKING PLACE. THEN SUDDENLY THE GAUGE WOULD JUMP UP TO AROUND 3200-3400 RPM, AND THE LUNGING STOPPED AND CAR REGAINED REGULAR SPEED. THIS OCCURRENCE HAPPENS ON EVERY INCLINE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE WHETHER OPERATING MANUALLY OR WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL OPERATING. PROBLEM IS NOT SO NOTICEABLE ON INCLINES AT LOWER SPEEDS WHILE CITY DRIVING (MILDER LUNGING I GUESS) BUT STILL OCCURS ON STEEP INCLINES ONLY THEN; ON HIGHWAY IT OCCURS ON ALL INCLINES. (I HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK NOW, BUT IT IS EXTREMELY WORRISOME, AND I WAS SURPRISED TO NOT FIND ANY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, AS A MECHANIC I MET SAID HIS MALIBU HAS BEEN DOING THAT FOR THE PAST 7 YEARS AND INDICATED THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR IT; YET I FOUND NONE LISTED.

I PURCHASED MY CAR AT ROBBINS CHEVROLET IN HOUSTON, TX IN 2001. I ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAD BEEN HAVING ACCELERATION PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR FROM THE START. LAST MONTH THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I TOOK IT TO ROBBINS AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE PCM MODULE, WHICH IS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID THE PCM THAT WAS IN MY VEHICLE WAS NOT FOR A CHEVY MALIBU. ROBBINS SAID THE PCM WAS FOR A PONTIAC, WHICH IS A GM PRODUCT. WE HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED AT ROBBINS & LANDMARK CHEVY. ROBBINS WANTS US TO PAY FOR THE PCM WHICH IS UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.

HI, IT'S ME.... AGAIN. IMAGINE THAT WITH MY CHEVY MALIBU. I WENT TO START THE CAR THIS MORNING. HOWEVER, IT WOULDN'T. I COULD HEAR THE FUEL PUMP RUN FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN TURN OFF. THE ENGINE WOULD FIRE BRIEFLY, AND THEN STOP. THE STARTER IS WORKING GREAT. SO I TURNED TO GOOGLE. I FOUND, LIKE SO MANY OF THE COMPLAINTS ON HERE THAT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM IS TO BLAME. IT LIKES TO RANDOM TURN ON, PREVENTING THE CAR FROM STARTING. I CALLED THE DEALER TO ASK WHAT CHEVY WAS GOING TO DO TO FIX CHEVY'S BUSTED ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD TO TURN THE KEY TO THE "ON" POSITION FOR 10 MIN. THE ANTI-THEFT WOULD RESET, AND THEN I COULD START ME CAR. THEY FORGOT TO TELL ME THAT IT WOULD CONTINUE TO DO THIS UNTIL I SPEND $500 OF MY OWN MONEY TO FIX A PROBLEM CHEVY KNOWS ABOUT. ON AT LEAST 20 OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST 4 YEARS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WILL ACTIVATE FOR NO APPARENT REASON, WHICH DISABLES THE ABILITY TO START THE ENGINE. IF I TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO ON POSITION AND WAIT FOR 10 MINUTES, THEN TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN ATTEMPT TO START THE ENGINE IT WILL STARTUP SUCCESSFULLY. THIS COMPLAINT RELATES TO THE POORLY DESIGNED GM PASSLOCK ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM THAT ERRONEOUSLY ENTERS ANTI-THEFT MODE AND DISABLES THE FUEL INJECTORS. GM SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THIS PASSLOCK SYSTEM '' IT IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE TO STRAND MOTORISTS BECAUSE OF AN INCOMPETENTLY DESIGNED ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH THE IN-TANK FUEL PUMP AND TWO IGNITION MODULES (AT AN EXPENSE OF THREE TOWING BILL PLUS $1000+ IN REPAIR COSTS), ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WAS MISREADING MY IGNITION KEY AND DISABLING THE INJECTORS. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE IGNITION CYLINDER. IN MARCH OF 2005 THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON, AND SHE TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD HER THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS OCTOBER 4, 2005. OUR 2001 MALIBU DEVELOPED A COOLANT LEAK AND IN MAY OF 05. THE DEALER REPLACED THE UPPER INTAKE GASKET AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT MAINTAIN COMPRESSION AND KEPT STALLING. I AM DISABLED AND I FELT THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER 3 OR 4 TRIPS TO THE DEALER WITHOUT RESULTS I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO POINTED OUT THAT IT WAS THE HEAD GASKET THAT WAS LEAKING. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 30 MPH AND HEARD SOME POPPING IN MY LEFT FRONT TIRE. I THEN NOTICED THAT I COULD NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. IT TOOK ALL OF MY STRENGTH TO GET IT TO TURN SLIGHTLY AND THE MORE I TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL, THE LOUDER THE POPPING SOUND GOT. I WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO STEER MY CAR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND VEERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN STEERING HARD TO THE RIGHT AND MADE CLUNKING NOISES WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT SIDE MOUNTING BOLT OF THE STEERING RACK RIPPED THROUGH THE RUSTED OUT FRAME CRADLE, LEAVING THE RACK ATTACHED BY ONLY ONE BOLT. THIS ALLOWS THE RACK TO PIVOT UPWARDS INSTEAD OF PROPERLY STEERING THE VEHICLE. THE RIGHT HAND MOUNT IS ALSO VERY RUSTED AND IS NEARING FAILURE. ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 11 OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR 2001 MALIBU ON I-75 AT 70 MPH IN THE RAIN. THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE SEIZED AND SHE WENT INTO A 180 DEGREE SPIN, HIT THE GUARD RAIL AND RESTED FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ABOUT ONE YEAR AGO THE IDENTICAL THING HAPPENED ON I-275, ALSO IN THE RAIN. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THAT SHE SPUN TO THE RIGHT AFTER THE BRAKE SEIZED. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC ONE YEAR AGO AND HE SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE HEAT SHRINK CONNECTOR ON ONE OF THE POWER WIRES GOING TO THE CALIPER. HE WAS CERTAIN HE HAD REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. ALSO THE AUTOMATIC POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO LOCK ALL DOORS WHEN DEPRESSED WHEN I AM LEAVING THE VEHICLE DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. BOTH OF THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN "FIXED" SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST 12 - 18 MONTHS BY THE DEALER, BUT THEY KEEP RECURRING. ANOTHER PROBLEM, WHICH THE DEALER HAD "FIXED" A COUPLE OF TIMES IS THAT I WOULD GO OUT TO START THE CAR, IT JUST WOULDN'T START. THE DEALER CLAIMED IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM/IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER IN THAT IF YOU TRY THREE DIFFERENT KEYS OR MAKE THREE ATTEMPTS TO START THE CAR, THEN THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WOULD LOCK THE CAR OUT. TWO TIMES OVER THE LAST 12-18 I'VE GONE OUT TO THE CAR, PUT MY CAR KEY IN THE IGNITION (ONCE EACH TIME) AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START, WOULD NOT EVEN TURN OVER. THE FRONT END IS VIBRATING AT ANY SPEED. DEALER HAS DONE FRONT ALIGNMENT, REPLACED THE FRONT TIRES, AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S PASS LOCK SYSTEM FAILED AND SHUT OFF THE FUEL PUMP. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH, THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM WOULD SHUT OFF THE FUEL PUMP SYSTEM, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE WITHOUT WARNING. APPROACHED INTERSECTION IN TURNING LANE TO MAKE LEFT TURN. UPON MAKING SUCH TURN, VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE AS FAST AS IT SHOULD. OVER THE PAST MONTH, THE MALIBU HAS STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE COLLEGE PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. WHEN SHE WENT TO TURN THE CAR IN A TURN LANE SHE HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE DIRECTION OF THE CAR. WHEN WE WOULD JUST START THE CAR IT WOULD REV UP TO BETWEEN 3000 TO 4000 RPM AND IT WOULD STAY THAT WAY. THIS WAS ONLY ONE WAY THAT IT WOULD ACT UP. THE OTHER WAYS WERE WHEN YOU WERE JUST DRIVING ALONG AND THE CAR WOULD START TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN. BOTH WAYS YOU HAD TO RIDE THE BRAKE AND RIDE IT HARD IN ORDER NOT TO HIT THE PERSON IN FRONT OF US. WE HAD IT IN TO ONE DEALER TWICE WITH NOTHING GETTING FIXED. WE TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER THREE TIMES, THEY RANDOMLY REPLACED DIFFERENT THINGS (GUESSING) AT OUR COST, BUT PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED. WE EVEN TOOK IT IN WHEN IT WAS REVVING UP TO 3000 RPM, WHILE THEY WERE UNDER THE HOOD IT EVEN WENT HIGHER! CAR HAS VIBRATIONS AT HIGHER SPEEDS 60+ WAS TOLD IT WAS TIRES/WHEELS THEY WERE REPLACED FOR $280 FOR TIRES AND $200 FOR JUST STEEL RIMS. CAR STILL VIBRATED AT HIGH SPEEDS AND ALSO FELT LIKE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED-THE KIND OF VIBRATING WHEN BRAKING. REPLACED ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS $49 A PIECE FOR ROTORS AND $40 A PIECE FOR BRAKE PADS. CAR CONTINUED TO VIBRATE EXCEPT WHEN STOPPING. AFTER TIME NOW (3 MOS) WHEN THE CAR IS VIBRATING AND YOU GO TO SLOW DOWN IT SHAKES THE CAR EVEN WORSE. WAS THEN TOLD TO REPLACE THE WHEEL BEARINGS. JUST DID THAT YESTERDAY THEY COST ME $230 NOT ONLY DOES THE CAR STILL VIBRATE IT HAS A GRINDING NOISE WHEN YOU TRUN TO THE RIGHT NOW. SINCE IVE BOUGHT IT IT HAS VIBRATIONS AT HIGH SPEEDS AND A "RUBBING" VV, VV, VV NOISE WHEN TURING RIGHT. AFTER REPLACING WHEEL BEARINGS THE CAR STILL MAKES ALL THE NOISES AND GRINDS NOW. DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO TO FIX IT, BEGINNING TO THINK IM JUST GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRONT END. REALLY USED TO TRUST CHEVY NOW IM NOT SO SURE. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED TWICE SINCE BUYING THE CAR IN APRIL OF 2001. I TOOK THE CAR TO JIM BUTLER CHEVROLET FOR THE TURN SIGNAL/FLASHER PROBLEM WHICH WAS LATER RECALLED AND I WAS REIMBURSED. I TOOK IT TO DON DARR CHEVY WHICH FIXED A FAULTY SWITCH OPERATING THE AIR CONDITIONER/SWITCHING TO OUTSIDE AIR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO DOBBS WHEN IT WOULD NOT START, THEY SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND ASSEMBLY MODULE. TODAY,JIM BUTLER CHEVROLET REPLACED THE LOCK CYLINDER AND IGNITION SWITCH BECAUSE OF THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT AND THE CAR NOT STARTING.BUT WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS NOT WORKING. OH! BUT THEY NOTICED A RECALL ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND REPLACED IT. THEY WERE THE ONE WHO REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME. I ALSO TOLD THEM OF THE OVER CRANK/GRINDING NOISE AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED, HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE, SO NO REPAIR. FILLED GAS TANK, DROVE 100 YARDS, GAUGE DROPS TO READ EMPTY. HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY IN THE SAME MANNER. ERRATIC. REQUIRES UTILIZATION OF THE TRIP METER TO TRACK FUEL USAGE. ON ONE OCCASION GAUGE READ TANK WAS ABOUT 1/8 FULL, CAR STOPPED RUNNING AND WAS OUT OF FUEL. SECOND ISSUE: "THEFT SECURITY" LIGHT HAS BEGUN TO COME ON ERRATICALLY. DRIVING ALONG, LIGHT WILL SUDDENLY COME ON. AFTER DEPARTURE OF CAR, AND RETURN, DRIVER MUST THEN FOLLOW 10 MIN. PROCEDURE TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. THIRD ISSUE: WITHOUT INSTALLATION OF HIGH QUALITY TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE, THE NOISE LEVEL AND WEAR PATTERN IS ABSURD. THE CUPPING AND WEARING HAS OCCURED ON 2 DIFFERENT SETS OF GOOD QUALITY TIRES. WE ARE PAYING ON A 2001 MALIBU. THE FUEL SENSOR WENT OUT SHOWING GASOLINE WHEN THERE WASN'T. THE CAR STALLED IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE FUEL FILTER PLUS A DEDUCTIBLE ON MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. NEXT THE BLINKERS DECIDED TO ONLY WORK OCCASSIONALLY SAME WEEK THE STARTER STARTED DRAGGING THEN THE CAR STARTED TO RUN HOT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, REPLACED BLINKER SWITCH (NO MENTION MADE OF THE RECALL) REPLACED THE STARTER AND REPLACED THE GASKET THAT WAS LEAKING. THE FUEL GUAGE REPORTS INCORRECT FUEL LEVEL. YOU CAN GO THE THE GAS STATION AND FILL THE CAR UP AND THE GAS HAND WILL SHOW IT AS BEING EMPTY AND BEFORE YOU PUT FUEL IN THE TANK THE GUAGE WAS AT A 1/4 TANK. YOU MAY HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WILL SHOW THAT IT IS FULL. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR WILL CUT OFF IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. ONE TIME THE CAR SHOWED 3/4 TANK OF FUEL WHILE IT WAS EMPTY. LUCKLY, I WAS ON A DOWNGRADE AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE ON THE INTERSTATE. NEXT WEEK, FAILED TO START AGAIN, 800# TECH ADVICE TOLD ME ABOUT &#34;ANTI-THEFT&#34; WAS ACTING UP AND GAVE ME PROCEDURES TO START CAR. &#34;ANTI-THEFT&#34; SYSTEM HAS SINCE QUIT WORKING. PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S TURN SIGNALS, DOOR LOCKS AND BRAKES.*MR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOR SIX MONTHS UNTIL THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO SERVICE THE PROBLEM. THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD FREEZE IN THE WINTER TIME AND WOULD OPEN SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP RESPONDED BY STATING THEY DIDN'T EXPERIENCE THIS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING CHECKED. THUS, THE PROBLEM WASN'T HANDLED BY THE COMPANY. APPARENTLY, THE DOOR HINGES WERE NEVER PROPERLY GREASED UNTIL THE CONSUMER'S FATHER DID IT. THIS RESOLVED THAT PROBLEM. AT APPROXIMATELY 30000 MILES MY CAR STARTED HESITATING WHEN STARTING. THE DEALER COULD FIND NO FAULT AND I KEPT DRIVING WITH ONLY PERIODIC PROBLEMS. THEN MY GAS GAUGE, RADIO, ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND PASSIVE ALARM SYSTEM KEPT COMING ON. AT, 43,000 MILES THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE DEALER SAID THE KEY HAD LOST ITS MEMORY BUT I STILL KEPT HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. AT, 48,354 MILES THE CAR TOTALLY WENT OUT. AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. UNDER CALIFORNIA LAW THE IGNITION SYSTEM IS COVERED TO 50,000 MILES BUT THE DEALER STATED TEH IGNITION SWITCH IS NOT PART OF THE IGNITION SYSTEM. AFTER WRITTING CHEVY COMPLAINT DEPT MANY TIMES I GOT NO WHERE BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS CALLL THE DEALER, THEY DO NOT GO WITH AN INDEPENDENT BODY JUST THE DEALER THAT GAVE ME THE ADVICE IN THE FIRST PLACE. I HAD THE DEALER RETURN THE BAD PART TO ME AND WANT TO KNOW IF THIS PART IS COVERED. I PAID 400.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. DATE, I HAD CHEVY DO THE FOLLOWING: NEW BRAKES (ALL THE WAY AROUND - ONCE, FRONT ROTORS/PADS - TWICE), ALL NEW PISTONS, TRANSMISSION REPLACED, MISS ON #1 CYLINDER - REPLACED 1 FAILED SPARK PLUG, LEFT REAR DOOR SQUEAKS WHEN OPEN/SHUT - LUBED (HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW), FRONT LEFT NOISE FROM STRUTS/BRAKES - NOT ABLE TO VERIFY AS OF YET (POSSIBLE STRUT PROBLEM/LUBE), FAN IN DASHBOARD HAS A SOUND IN THE MIDDLE (JUST ABOVE THE CD PLAYER/RADIO) LIKE THERE IS A PIECE OF PAPER CAUGHT IN THE HOUSING (CONFIRMED AFTER 4 COMPLAINTS, FAULTY FAN MOTOR), PASSENGER FRONT SEAT SQUEAKS WHEN OCCUPIED (DEALERSHIPS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE./FIX), REARVIEW MIRROR RATTLES WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (TIGHTENED, STILL DOES IT IN HOT WEATHER). BOTTOM LINE, THIS IS MY FIRST NEW CAR PURCHASE AND I AM HAVING SERIOUS DOUBTS ABOUT KEEPING THE CAR - AS IT ONLY HAS 21,405 MILES ON IT. WITH THE 3/30 WARRANTY. COMING UP IN OCT. 2003, I AM VERY MUCH AFRAID THAT I HAVE PURCHASED A LEMON AND NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO SPENDING ANYMORE TIME/$$$ ON THIS VEHICLE. ANY SUGGESTIONS? *JB

EXCESSIVE BRAKE REPAIR:FRONT AND REAR SINCE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON 9/12/01 TO 3/31/03: BRAKES SERVICED ON 12/14/01-MACHINE FRONT ROTORS AND REAR DRUMS, 3/14/02-REPLACE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS MACHINE REAR DRUMS, 8/12/02 R&R REAR DRUMS & MACHINE R&R REAR BRAKE SHOES & LUBE BACKING PLATE, 3/31/03 FRONT BRAKES NEEDED CLEAN AND ADJUST REAR BRAKES. MILEAGE WAS RESPECTIVELY: 5836, 12450, 21975, 33533. ALL BRAKE WORK DONE BY DEALER. INDEPENDENT BRAKE INSPECTION ON 4/3/03 SHOWS FRONT BRAKES NEEDED AND 20/1000THS LEFT ON REAR DRUMS. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD SET OF BRAKES PUT ON THIS VEHICLE BEFORE THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY EXPIRES. ALSO REAR DRUMS ARE WITHIN 20/1000THS OF DRUM SPEC DISCARD PRIOR TO MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY EXPIRATION.

THIS CAR HAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC 3 TIMES. THE FIRST TIME WAS APRIL 25, 01. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WENT DEAD SOMEONE RAN OVER AND ASSISTED ME IN GETTING THE CAR OUT OF THE STREET. IT WAS TOWED TO CRAIN CHEVROLET. THEY REPROGRAMMED THE CAR AND I GOT IT BACK THE NEXT DAY. MAY 4, 01 THE CAR STOPPED AGAIN IN TRAFFIC ON A MAIN THOROUGHFARE I PULLED OVER AND A FEW MINUTES LATER IT STARTED BACK UP AND IT STOPPED AGAIN. IT WAS TOWED TO GWATNEY CHEV. THEY REPAIRED IT AND I GOT IT BACK ON MAY 10, 01 AND IT STOPPED AGAIN IN TRAFFIC ON A MAIN THOROUGHFARE ON MAY 11, 01. IT IS NOW AT GWATNEY CHEV. I ALSO CONTACTED GM AND INFORMED THEM THAT I AM A RISK TO ME AND TO OTHER MOTORIST. GM CALLED TODAY AND SAID THAT THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM AND ARE HAVING TO ORDER A PART. IT WILL TAKE A FEW DAYS FOR ME TO GET IT BACK. HAS ANYONE ELSE REPORTED PROBLEM OF THEIR 2001 MALIBU STOPPING IN TRAFFIC. THE MANUFACTURER IS WORKING WITH ME HOWEVER, I THINK THAT OTHERS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE.*AK
