THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROBLEM ARE AS FOLLOWS: THE ENGINE JUST DIES RANDOMLY. WHEN THE ENGINE DIES, I NOTED THE GAUGES ALL INDICATED THE KEY WAS IN THE OFF POSITION, EVEN THOUGH THE KEY HAD NOT BEEN TOUCHED. THEY BY TURNING THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND WIGGLING IT ONLY AFTER BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP AND PUTTING THE GEAR SHIFT IN THE PARK POSITION, COULD I GET THE CAR TO START AND BE ON MY WAY. THIS SAME CONDITION HAPPENS AT 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY; AT 0 MPH; 5 MPH; APPROACHING A STOP SIGN; SLOWING THE VEHICLE, AND OTHER CONDITION WHILE DRIVING THAT YOU CAN THINK OF TYPE DRIVING CONDITIONS . I HAVE HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACE TWICE AND THAT HAS NOT CURED THE PROBLEM.

CAR WOULD NOT START, HAD TO REPLACE ALTERNATOR. ONE WEEK LATER SAME PROBLEM, HAD A MECHANIC CHECK IT NOW SAYING ITS THE BATTERY SO REPLACED THAT. WAS STARTING OK THEN IT WOULDN'T START SO WE WIGGLED KEY AROUND AND IT STARTED. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SEVERAL DAYS DOING THIS BUT THEN IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THE MECHANIC SAYS IT IS THE IGNITION SWITCH. WHEN I LOOKED THIS UP I SEE THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEM WITH IGNITION SWITCH. GM CARS ARE CRAP!!! I CANT AFFORD TO FIX THIS I AM ON VERY LIMITED BUDGET SO MY CAR BEEN SITING FOR OVER MONTH NOW. GM NEEDS TO FIX FOR FREE.

MY 2002 CHEVROLET CLASSIC HAS A DANGEROUS CONDITION WHERE THE TURN SIGNAL/HAZARD WARNING FLASHERS BECOME INOPERATIVE. THE CONDITION IS COMPLETELY RANDOM AND OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS HAS CREATED SURPRISE UNSAFE SITUATIONS WHEN MAKING LANE CHANGES AND LEFT AND RIGHT HAND TURNS. CHEVROLET KNOWS ABOUT THE FAULTY TURN SIGNAL/HAZARD WARNING FLASHERS HOWEVER NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE. IN APRIL 2006 CHEVROLET SENT A SOMEWHAT DISMISSIVE LETTER ABOUT THE CONDITION. HOWEVER THE LETTER CLEARLY STATES THIS IS NOT A RECALL AND DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. AT THAT TIME MY 2002 CHEVROLET CLASSIC DID NOT HAVE THE CONDITION DESCRIBED IN THE LETTER. I FEEL THE LANGUAGE AND INTENT OF THE LETTER WAS CONFUSING AND CREATED OPPORTUNITY FOR CHEVROLET TO DISREGARD THE CUSTOMER.

THE CONSUMER COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT AND THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS REPAIR HAVE INFORMED ME THE REPLACING THE BRAKES AT 18,165 MILES ARE CONSIDERED ?ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.? FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS FOUND WHEN THE CAR DID NOT ADEQUACY STOP PLACING ME AND MY FAMILY IN DANGER. HEADLIGHTS DIM WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED SUCH AS COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING DOWN TO NEGOTIATE TURNS. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE VISIBILITY IS COMPROMISED DURING NIGHT DRIVING. IT IS VERY EASY TO MISS TURNS, EXIT RAMPS, AND ROAD SIGNS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO GM SERVICE CENTER, AND WAS TOLD THIS OPERATION IS NORMAL. BATTERY, AND CHARGING SYSTEM NO PROBLEMS FOUND. NEW HEADLIGHT BULBS INSTALLED NO DIFFERENCE. VEHICLE IS LIKE NEW CONDITION; ALWAYS GARAGED. NO DAMAGE, RUST, OR MODIFICATIONS. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THERE IS A TSB #02-06-03-008A CONCERNING THE ISSUE.

THEN A FEW DAYS AFTER THAT THEY STOPPED WORKING AGAIN AND THEN JUST SEEMED TO WORK WHEN THEY WANTED TO. TOOK IT IN TO JIMMIE JOHNSON CHEVROLET WHEN THE SIGNALS WERE NOT WORKING. PICKED UP THE CAR TO HEAR THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. SURE ENOUGH THE SIGNALS WERE WORKING. THAT LASTED ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE THE TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. SINCE THEN, TWO MORE TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH PRETTY MUCH THE SAME RESULT EACH TIME. NOW I NOTICE IF THE WEATHER IS VERY WARM, THE TURN SIGNALS WORK MORE PART TIME AND WHILE IT IS COOL THEY DON'T WORK AT ALL. NOW, I HAVE READ YOUR COMMENTS HERE AND BEGAN PLAYING WITH THE HAZARD FLASHING BUTTON. IF I PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE UPPER RIGHT, THE TURN SIGNALS WORK. I TURN THE KEY TO START MY CAR. I DRIVE TO THE CORNER TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ONTO THE MAIN STREET. THE TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK. THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED BEFORE. I THEN TURN ON THE TURN SIGNALS LEFT TO CHANGE LANES AND MAKE A LEFT TURN AND THE SIGNALS DON'T WORK AGAIN. THEN I COME TO A STOP AT A LIGHT AND THE HORN GOES OF ON ITS OWN AND I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TRIED TO STOP THE HORN BY TURNING OFF THE CAR. THE HORN IS STILL GOING. I TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND THE HORN IS STILL GOING AND THE LIGHTS STILL ARE NOT WORKING. I HIT WITH AN OPEN HAND THE HORN TWICE AND IT STOPS, BUT THE TURN SIGNALS STILL DOESN'T WORK. THEN A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE HEADLIGHTS CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. THE WHEEL THAT ADJUSTS THE LIGHTS FROM BRIGHT TO DIM DOESN'T WORK. YOU CANNOT ADJUST THE LIGHTS AND IF YOU TRY, ALL THE LIGHTS, INSIDE AND OUT GO OUT. ALSO THE TURN SIGNALS ON BOTH SIDES(LEFT AND RIGHT) WORK WHEN THEY WANT AND I DON'T HAVE A HORN. MECHANIC WENT TO CAR TO HELP AND FIXED PROBLEM. SAID IT WAS ANTI-THEFT MECHANISM. THIS SAME THING HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WHEN CAR HAD TO BE TOWED AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS ANTI-THEFT LOCKING DEVICE. RESEARCHING MATTER ON INTERNET AND FIND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CHEVROLETS EXHIBITING THE SAME DEFECT. WHY ISN'T CHEVROLET REQUIRED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOME DIES AS A RESULT. WE CAN'T ALWAYS CONTROL CIRCUMSTANCES OF BEING STRANDED, WHERE WHEN HOW ETC., AND THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY PROBLEM FOR THE DRIVER. PLEASE HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. HAVE A 2002 MALIBU, AND THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE RADIO, TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO ACC, WAIT 10 - 15 MINUTES FOR THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT TO STOP BLINKING AND "DISAPPEAR", THEN TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION, WAIT ANOTHER 5 - 10 MINUTES. THEN TURN THE KEY TO THE START POSITION FOR THE CAR TO CRANK. THE WHOLE PROCESS CAN TAKE APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES TO START THE CAR. I NEVER KNOW WHEN I GET IN MY CAR IF THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR, WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN OR WHERE I WILL BE WHEN IT HAPPENS. THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS YESTERDAY 3/22/17.

I PURCHASED MY USED CAR IN THE FALL OF 2015. SINCE THEN, I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL INCIDENTS - NOW OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY - IN WHICH MY CAR WILL NOT START BECAUSE THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM BELIEVES I AM TRYING TO STEAL IT. WHEN I TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE CAR WILL NOT START AND THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT STARTS BLINKING. I MUST WAIT EXACTLY 10 MINUTES WITH THE KEY IN THE "ON" POSITION FOR THE LIGHT TO STOP BLINKING. THEN I CAN RESTART THE CAR AND IT WORKS FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE FOR SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM, AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT NUMEROUS MALIBU OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN DARK PARKING LOTS MULTIPLE TIMES, AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE KNOWING THAT MY VEHICLE REGULARLY WILL NOT START WITHOUT A TEN MINUTE DELAY.

I HAD THE RECALL DONE ON 11-26-14 FOR GM WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSTALL TWO KEY RINGS AND AN INSERT IN THE KEY SLOT OR A COVER OVER THE KEY HEAD ON ALL IGNITION KEYS, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2014. GM'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 14350. NOW THE CHIP IN THE IGNITION SWITCH KEEPS GOING IN TO TAMPER MODE. THE CAR WILL NOT START AND THE COMPUTER HAS TO BE RESET TO MAKE IT START. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED 2 TIMES IN THE LAST 8 DAYS! SO NOW I HAVE TO PAY OVER $500.00 TO HAVE IT REPLACED! THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL! THE KEY FIX DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS ONLY 124 THOUSAND MILES ON IT! PROSTROLLO MOTOR CO. The anti-theft/ passlock system fault in this generation of GM vehicles is very widespread and effects a large percentage of vehicles in this generation. I am sure there have been hundreds if not thousands of complaints about same issue and GM refuses to fix the problem. The problem causes the car to randomly shut off due to anti theft fault and can happen on interstate, highway or in town driving. This is a very dangerous fault and very expensive for owners especially when dealerships themselves don't even know what they are dealing with. They will throw parts at the problem with no real knowledge. GM needs to be held accountable. Currently the ignition the BCM have been replaced and now the car will not start at all and I have no lights or gauges on my cluster.

MY HANDICAPPED MOTHER HAS A 2002 CHEVROLET MALIBU THAT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT IGNITION RELATED ISSUES AS THOSE IN THE CURRENT MASSIVE GM RECALL. ON MORE THAN TWO OCCASIONS THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING. THIS HAS RESULTED IN TWO SIGNIFICANT REPEAT REPAIRS, ONE IN 2010 AND ONE THIS WEEK. IN BOTH CASES THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP DESCRIBES THE ISSUE AS AN IGNITION PASS LOCK SENSOR THAT FAILS DUE TO KEY POSITIONING. IN 2006 I PURCHASED 4 NEW COOPER LIFELINER TOURING SLE TIRES FROM A LOCAL DEALER FOR A 2002 CHEVROLET MALIBU. TIRES WERE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND TOUTED AS BEING TOP OF THE LINE. JUST AFTER A FEW YEARS OF SERVICE, I HAD TO FREQUENTLY ADD AIR TO THE TIRES. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY WORSE UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE FRONT AXLE. INSTEAD OF CHECKING AIR PRESSURE ONCE A MONTH, I HAD TO CHECK ABOUT EVERY 2 WEEKS. CAUSES THE CAR TO HANDLE POORLY ON THE ROAD, STEER HARDER, AND FUEL EFFICIENCY GOES DOWN. RETURNED TO PLACE OF PURCHASE, AND TIRES WERE REMOVED AND REINSTALLED TO RESEAL. TIRES WERE ALWAYS WELL MAINTAINED, ROTATED, CLEANED, GARAGED, AND PROPERLY AIRED TO THE SPECS OF THE VEHICLE. I EVEN AVOID POT HOLES. SHOP OWNER COMMENTED HOW NICE THEY WERE WEARING. AFTER ONLY ABOUT 35K MILES OF SERVICE AND 5/32 TREAD REMAINING I RETURNED TO THE SHOP FOR 2ND OR 3RD TIME AGAIN WITH SAME COMPLAINT OF HAVING TO ADD AIR TOO FREQUENTLY. WHEN VEHICLE COULD NO LONGER RUN, WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME. HAVE NOW REPLACED THERMOSTAT AND WATER PUMP. ISSUE REMAINS, BUT WORSE. LOW WATER AND NOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ARE ON. ALL INDICATIONS SUGGEST HEAD GASKET ISSUES WHICH WILL ULTIMATELY RESULT IN COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. AS SUCH, THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN AND REMAINS PARKED. MANY MAKES OF CARS NOW HAVE THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID COMING OUT OF SMALL RUBBER TUBES ATTACHED TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE IN JANUARY THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID FROZE WITHIN THE TUBES AND WOULD NOT COME OUT. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH ROAD SALT SPLASHED FROM OTHER CARS FAIRLY QUICKLY BUILDS UP ON YOUR WINDSHIELD AND YOU CAN HARDLY SEE OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING OVER 60 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. THE DAY WAS COLD, PERHAPS 14 DEGREES, BUT NOT EXTREMELY COLD AND THIS WAS PENNSYLVANIA NOT MINNESOTA NOR CANADA. MY GUESS IS THAT THE 14 DEGREES WEATHER PLUS DRIVING AT 70 MILES PER HOUR CREATES A WINDCHILL THAT IS BELOW THE -20 DEGREES THAT THE WASHER FLUID IS GOOD FOR. BUT IT IS ON COLD WINTER DAYS THAT YOU SPECIFICALLY NEED THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID BECAUSE OF THE SALT LEFT ON THE ROAD. THE FLUID BEGAN TO FLOW AGAIN WHEN I GOT INTO SLIGHTLY WARMER TEMPERATURES IN MARYLAND. I NEVER DILUTED THE WINDSHIELD FLUID WITH WATER. FOR THIS WINTER I HAVE BOUGHT WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID THAT IS GOOD TO MINUS 38 DEGREES AND HAVE ALSO BOUGHT AN ALCOHOL ADDITIVE FOR THE FLUID THAT WILL MAKE IT GOOD TO ABOUT MINUS 40 DEGREES AND I WILL SEE IF THAT WORKS. BUT MANY DRIVERS WON'T KNOW AHEAD OF TIME TO DO THAT, AND ALMOST ALL GAS STATIONS ONLY SELL THE STANDARD -20 FLUID. I THINK THAT CAR MANUFACTURERS IN DESIGNING FUTURE MODELS SHOULD GO BACK TO THE OLD SYSTEM OF WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID COMING OUT OF SLITS IN THE HOOD INSTEAD OF COMING OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. *LA

ON SEPT. 30TH 2013 WE HAD OUR 2003 CHEVY MALIBU WORKED ON AT JUST BRAKES ON 75 IN DALLAS. THEY RECOMMENDED A LONG LIST OF ITEMS COSTING AROUND $900 IN REPAIRS. WE DECIDED TO ONLY HAVE THE REAR BAKES DONE AT THIS TIME. ON JAN 16 OF THIS YEAR WE TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND FRONT BRAKES FIXED. OUR LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THE REARS WERE IMPROPERLY DONE AND WERE NOT WORKING AT ALL. THE PADS WERE INSTALLED BACKWARDS AND THE SPRINGS NOT ATTACHED. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO JUST BRAKES IN RICHARDSON SO THEY COULD PROPERLY FIX AND REDO THE WORK WE HAD PAID FOR. THE MANAGER BOBBY WAS EXTREMELY RUDE, HOSTILE AND ARGUMENTATIVE. RE 2002 CHEVY TAHOE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS: UP UNTIL THE 34,000 MILE RANGE THE VEHICLE DID JUST THAT, RUN FLAWLESSLY. HOWEVER, AT 34,000 MILES (NOVEMBER OF 2004) THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND NEEDED TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY AND INSTANTLY THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO WHINE AND STOPPED OPERATING WHICH PLACED HER INTO THE PATH OF A LARGE TRUCK BEARING DOWN ON HER RATHER QUICKLY. THANKFULLY SHE WAS ABLE TO GLIDE OUT OF THE PATH OF THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE HAD THE TAHOE TOWED BACK TO OUR DEALERSHIP AND WE DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION "SUN SHELL" HAD FAILED AND WOULD BE REPLACED. OUR DEALER ASSURED US THAT THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE NEW PARTS WERE DESIGNED TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING IN THE FUTURE. OUR DEALER FURTHER STATED THAT THEY HAVE BEEN REPAIRING A LARGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES WITH THESE FAILURES. OUR TAHOE WENT OFF OF IT'S NEW CAR WARRANTY ON MILEAGE NOT NUMBER OF MONTHS SOMETIME IN APRIL OF 2005 (36 MONTHS WOULD HAVE ENDED THIS AUGUST). JUST THIS PAST MONDAY (SEPTEMBER 19, 2005) MY WIFE WAS AGAIN ON HER WAY TO WORK WHEN AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED IN OUR 2002 TAHOE. THE MILEAGE WAS APPROX: 41,000 ( TOTAL PERIOD OF MILES AND THE LENGTH OF TIME FROM THE PREVIOUS FAILURE WAS APPROX: 7 MONTHS). THE CIRCUMSTANCES WERE THE SAME, SHE WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY AND AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO WHINE AND SLIP. THIS TIME SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RELATIVE SAFETY. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO OUR DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE "SUN SHELL" HAD FAILED. I WENT TO PICK UP THE CAR ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 23, 2005 AND WHILE I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THE DAMAGED PART AND A BENCH THAT CONTAINED SEVERAL DAMAGED "SUN SHELL". IT OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT TAKE MUCH EFFORT TO REALIZE THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION AND SPECIFICALLY THIS PART. *JB

THIS IS THE SECOND REPORT I HAVE HAD TO MAKE ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH MY 2002 CHEVY MALIBU. I WENT TO START MY CAR YESTERDAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND INSTEAD WOULD JUST CRANK. AFTER READING IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL THAT THE PASSLOCK ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM IN THE CAR NEEDED TO BE RESET, I HAD TO SIT WITH MY CAR KEY IN THE ON POSITION FOR 10 MINUTES; THEN I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND MY CAR STARTED FINE. I JUST HAD MY CAR TOWED LAST WEEK TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I TRIED TO START MY CAR YESTERDAY MORNING AFTER HAVING IT ONLY SIT FOR AN HOUR WHEN THE CAR WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. IT SEEMED AS IF THE CAR WAS NOT GETTING FUEL AND LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AGO HAD A NEW FUEL PUMP FIXED ON IT BECAUSE OF THIS SAME ISSUE. AS I STATED BEFORE, THE CAR WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND HAD IT STARTING AND RUNNING EVERY TIME THEY TRIED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2002 CHEVY MALIBU WHICH I HAVE OWNED SINCE 2003. FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS (STARTING AROUND APPROXIMATELY 90,000 MILES) I'VE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD LIGHT INDICATORS. THE MALFUNCTION LEADS TO TOTAL FAILURE OR FLICKERING OF THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS, THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND THE INDICATORS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE MALFUNCTION WILL OCCUR AT ANY TIME - SUNNY, RAINY, DRY, HUMID, SNOWY, HOT OR COLD WEATHER; DAYTIME OR NIGHTTIME; WHETHER THE ENGINE IS HOT OR COLD. OCCASIONALLY THE INDICATORS WILL WORK FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BUT THEN THE MALFUNCTION WILL OCCUR AGAIN. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED THE MALFUNCTION TO BEGIN. THE ORIGINAL MALFUNCTIONING PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AS THEY ARE CURRENTLY STILL INSTALLED IN MY VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE HEATER SWITCH IN MY CAR. A RATTLE TYPE NOISE IN THE HEATER FAN ASSEMBLY WAS THE FIRST INDICATION THAT I NOTICED AT AROUND 70,000 MILES. THAT STOPPED WHEN THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AFTER I RAN OVER A TRUCK TIRE TREAD THAT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE SWITCH WORKED FOR A WHILE THEN I LOST THE NUMBER ONE AND TWO SPEEDS. EVENTUALLY THE NUMBER THREE SPEED WENT OUT. I CURRENTLY CAN RUN THE HEATER ON SPEEDS NUMBER FOUR AND FIVE; HOWEVER, THE OUTPUT IS LESS THAT WHAT IT SHOULD BE FOR THE TWO HIGHEST FAN SPEEDS. MY TURN SIGNALS WORK WHENEVER THEY FEEL LIKE IT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS NOW AND IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. I HAD AN IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED BY A DEALER (DIMMITT CHEVROLET, CLEARWATER, FL) BECAUSE MY KEY WAS STUCK IN IT. THE SAME DEALER ALSO REPLACED MY KEY AND KEY CASING BECAUSE OF A RECALL. AFTER THAT I STARTING NOTICING THAT MY CAR WOULD INTERMITTENTLY CUT OFF FORCING ME TO PUT IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART. I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A CLOGGED FUEL FILTER AND HAD THAT REPLACED. THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS AND IT IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION TO ME AND MY FAMILY NOT KNOWING WHEN MY CAR WILL JUST STOP RUNNING, ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. KEY FEELS LOOSE IN IGNITION. TRIM SURROUNDING IGNITION REMAINS LOOSE FROM MULTIPLE SWITCH REPLACEMENTS. SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BEFORE. VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND DOCUMENTED AT GM SERVICE CENTER AS HAVING A FAILED IGNITION SWITCH FOR THE SECOND TIME. VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED 2 TIMES AT OWNER'S EXPENSE FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF OVER $1200. ALL PARTS AND REPLACEMENTS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AT THE SAME GENUINE GM SERVICE CENTER. RECOMMEND IGNITION SWITCH RECALL FOR SAFETY AND RELIABILITY ISSUES. FIRST REPLACEMENT OCCURRED IN 2008. SECOND SWITCH REPLACEMENT REQUIRED IN 2014. VEHICLE PART OF RECENT GM RECALL #:N140350 FOR UNINTENDED KEY ROTATION. REMEDY WAS PERFORMED ON THE DAY OF IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT NUMBER 2; WHICH INCLUDED "INSERTS" FOR THE KEY RING SO THAT IT GOES FROM A "SLOT" DESIGN TO A HOLE DESIGN AND 2 SMALL 13 MM RINGS. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THIS IS A FAILED REMEDY THAT CAN BE FOUND IN GENERAL MOTORS TSB # 05-02-35-007A AND WAS PERFORMED ON SIMILAR MODEL YEAR VEHICLES. THIS SOLUTION OR REMEDY FROM ENGINEERING DID NOT ULTIMATELY PROTECT DRIVERS AND OPERATORS FROM UNINTENDED KEY ROTATION. THIS SO CALLED RECALL REMEDY IS A PREVIOUSLY KNOWN FAILURE AND CAN BE FOUND IN PUBLIC DOCUMENTS CONCERNING GM IGNITION SWITCH LITIGATION. MY 2002 CHEVY MALIBU HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS SINCE I BOUGHT IT AT ABOUT 104,000 MILES BUT I AM SURE THAT IT WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WELL BEFORE I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE OF THE LOW PRICE I PAID FOR IT, BUT I NEEDED A CAR BADLY. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS STARTING MY CAR AND USUALLY WOULD HAVE TO TURN IT ON TO MAKE SURE ALL THE LIGHTS COME ON, NOT JUST THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT. IF ONLY THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT COMES ON, ITS GUARANTEED TO NOT START. AT EXACTLY 111,111 MILES MY CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TOOK THE KEY OUT AND PUT IT BACK IN. IT KEPT FLASHING THE ANTI-THEFT AT ME! I REPLACED THE IDOL SPEED MOTOR AND FOR SOME REASON IT STARTED. A WEEK LATER IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. I READ ABOUT TRICKS ONLINE TO GET THE CAR TO START BECAUSE THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROMINENT PROBLEM WITH 2002'S. I FINALLY GOT THE CAR STARTED. A FEW DAYS LATER I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT AND MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF. I WAS STILL ABLE TO USE MY BREAKS, THANK GOD, BUT HAD TO SIT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC TRYING TO START MY CAR FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. THE POINT IS THAT THE PROBLEM ALWAYS COMES BACK AND IT SEEMS TO GET WORST, AND HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY WITH EVERY FAILURE. THE PROBLEM COULD BE THE IGNITION CYLINDER WITCH IS WHAT I AM HAVING FIXED NEXT, BUT I HAVE ACQUAINTANCES THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT COME BACK EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE IGNITION CYLINDER. I FIRST PURCHASED THIS MALIBU 2002 IN FEB 2002. NOV 02 ( 9 MOS LATER) I HAD TO HAVE MY IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED WHICH WAS UNDER WARRANTY. AROUND THE SAME TIME MY TURN/HAZARD SIGNAL WENT OUT AND I HAVEN'T HAD IT REPLACED YET AFTER 4YRS OF HAVING THIS CAR. IF I WANT TO USE IT I HAVE TO KEEP PRESSING THE HAZARD BUTTON TO MAKE IT COME ON. NOV 2005 I TRIED TO START MY CAR, BUT IT KEPT CUTTING OFF. MY DAD STATED IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. I HAD THE FUEL PUMP,CRANK SENSOR AND MODULE REPLACED. MY CAR STILL DIDN'T START. FINALLY MY DAD WENT UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL AND PRESSED THIS BLACK BUTTON (CUT OFF SWITCH) AND THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY IT WOULD START. I HAVE TO TRAVEL 25 MILES TO WORK SO I WAS TIRED OF WORRYING ABOUT THE CAR. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE THEFT SYSTEM. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER 11/29/2005 THEY HAD THE CAR UNTIL 12/15/2005. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY IGNITION SWITCH, CRANK SENSOR AND MY ALARM/AUTOMATIC STARTER. I WAS OUT OF $366.73 TO THE DEALER AND TAKING A CAB TO WORK AT 5:30AM FOR X7DY COASTED$210.00. I WAS ALSO OUT OF MONEY FOR A RENTAL CAR FOR THE LAST 7YS THEY HAD MY CAR PLUS GAS ON BOTH BECAUSE THEY USED ALL GAS IN MY CAR. I HAVE HAD X2 IGNITION SWITCHES PUT ON MY CAR, I HAVE TO CHANGE MY TAIL/PARK/BRAKE BULB SEEMINGLY EVERY 6MOS. ON JUNE 1, 2004 THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. JUNE 27, 2006 WITH 72, 000 MILES, THERE IS OIL IN COOLANT RESERVOIR AND A COOLANT LEAK. THERE WAS A LOWER INTAKE LEAK AND LEAK AT WATER PUMP. THE LOWER INTAKE AND WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED BUT ON JULY 17, 2006 THE SAME PROBLEM CAME AGAIN. I BOUGHT A 2002 CHEVROLET MALIBU ON AUGUST 10, 2004. THE MILEAGE WAS 45,281. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD 2 PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. 1.GM DEX-COOL/INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. 2.ANTI-THEFT LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER CAR HAS BEEN STOPPED, THE CAR WILL NOT RESTART AGAIN. WITH REGARD TO ITEM NUMBER 1 ABOVE, I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT PENDING. WITH REGARD TO ITEM NUMBER 2 ABOVE, THESE ARE THE CIRCUMSTANCES CONCERNING MY PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM. FROM AUGUST TO OCTOBER 2006 I HAD TO TOW MY VEHICLE TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM OF MY CAR NOT STARTING. IT WAS TOWED 4 TIMES, THE FIRST 3 TIMES AND ALL THE DEALERSHIP SAID WAS THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE CHARGED. ON THE LAST TIME, OCTOBER 13, 2006 THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEIR ?EDUCATED GUESS? WAS THE NEED TO CHANGE THE STARTER SWITCH AND IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FOR WHICH THEY CHARGED ME FOR A STARTER SWITCH - $96.15, AN IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER - $154.79, RECODE THE LOCK CYLINDER - $15.00, AND $46.00 TO CORRECT THE PASS LOCK SENSOR DATA, PLUS A $10.00 ENVIRONMENTAL DISPOSAL FEE. MY SON LOOKED ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR SAME MODEL CAR. IT APPEARS QUITE A FEW OWNERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THE ANTI-THEFT PROBLEM FIX WAS TO ALLOW THE CAR TO SIT FOR 10 MINUTES, AND THEN TRY TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN, AND IT WORKED, SOMETIMES AFTER 2-3 ATTEMPTS. THE DEALERSHIP HAD ALSO SAID TO TRY THE SAME FIX PROCEDURE, IT MIGHT WORK. IT APPEARS THAT GENERAL MOTORS KNOWS ABOUT THIS TWO PROBLEM, AND IS ONLY ADDRESSING THE GM DEX COOL INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. MY 2002 CHEVY MALIBU SUFFERS FROM SUDDEN ACCELERATION. MOST OF THE ARTICLES I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET STATE THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE RESULTS. ON MY CAR, I CAN REPRODUCE THE RESULTS ANYTIME. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE I HAD PRESSED THE GAS INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE, BUT I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT EVEN AFTER RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. FORTUNATELY, FOR ME, THERE WERE NO CARS ON THE ROAD WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE SECOND TIME, I WAS PULLING INTO A GAS STATION AND HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR WHILE IT WAS STILL MOVING TO KILL THE ENGINE. THE THIRD TIME, I WAS IN THE CITY AND I KNOW THAT I MUST HAVE REALLY WORN OUT MY BRAKES. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND I HAVE CALLED GM TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHEN THE DRIVER TURNED THE IGNITION TO THE ON POSITION, THE VEHICLE DID NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHILE AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE SWITCH FAILURE REQUIRES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO OPEN AND OR CLOSE THE GLASS. ALL OTHER POWER ACCESSORIES WORK AS INTENDED INCLUDING OTHER POWER WINDOW SWITCHES. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN MODIFIED OR OR DAMAGED.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START MY SON'S 2002 CHEVY MALIBU THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE CAR WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PASS LOCK SENSOR ISSUE. THE KEY NEEDS TO BE IN THE ON POSITION FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES (UNTIL THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT GOES OFF), THEN TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION, TAKE THE KEY OUT, THEN PUT THE KEY BACK IN, AND IT WILL START. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND CAN BE REFERENCED ON NUMEROUS ONLINE SITES, SO THERE IS NO REASON THIS SHOULD NOT BE A RECALL ISSUE. MECHANICS WILL TELL YOU IT IS THE FUEL PUMP, FUEL LINES, OR THE IGNITION, AND YOU CAN SPEND A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY WITHOUT SOLVING THE ISSUE. AT $300-$450 (ESTIMATES) YOU CAN HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED, BUT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL LIST. I DO NOT WANT MY TEENAGE SON STRANDED FOR SOMETHING THAT GM KNOWS ABOUT AND SHOULD REPLACE.

THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. UPON INSPECTION THE GM MECHANIC SHOWED ME THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THERE ARE OTHER PARTS OF THE UNDER BODY THAT HAVE A LOT OF CORROSION. THERE IS POTENTIAL RISK OF FAILURE WHICH COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR HAS UNDER 100,000 MILES ON IT, IS GARAGE KEPT AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS AND ACCIDENTS RELATING TO THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE ON GM VEHICLES. DISCUSSING THE PROBLEM WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE, IT WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE LOCAL DEALER TO WORKOUT A METHOD OF PAYMENT BUT GM WAS ESSENTIALLY NOT GOING TO BE OF ANY HELP. THE LOCAL DEALER CLEARLY HAS NO INCENTIVE TO TO BARE THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THIS IS A ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY THE OEM. OTHER VEHICLES BY GM HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM BUT NO RECALL OR ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF THIS ISSUE IS PRESENT. AS I WAS GETTING OFF AN EXIT FROM THE HIGHWAY THE CAR SHUT OFF AND STEERING BECAME HARD. I LET THE CAR ROLL INTO THE RIGHT LANE WHERE I COULD STOP AND TURN THE KEY TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STARTED IMMEDIATELY, STEERING WAS VERY HARD. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND THE FOUND THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE RACK N PINION STEERING HAD TO BE REPLACED. ONE WEEK LATER I DROVE THE CAR TO GO TO THE BEACH WITH MY DAD AND AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR SEEMED FINE. WHEN I STOPPED AT A LIGHT THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN I DROVE TO THE MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY AND WHEN HE PUT THE COMPUTER TO THE CAR IT SHOWED THAT THE #4 COIL WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THANKFUL THAT I AM CAREFUL AND DEFENSIVE DRIVER. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, I SIGNALED FOR A LEFT TURN. WHEN I SIGNALED THE TURN, THERE WAS A BUZZING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, RESULTING IN A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER TO STEERING AND BRAKES. LUCKILY, I WAS GOING ABOUT 10 MPH AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, ALBEIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. I NOTICED THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE ON. THE CAR RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AND I DROVE IT 1/2 BLOCK TO A PARKING SPACE. I SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK THE CAR TO FH DAILEY, THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) THAT HAD CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. THEY ARE REPLACING THE BCM. THEY DID NOT SEEM PARTICULARLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND MY IMPRESSION IS IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR THEM TO ENCOUNTER IT. I AM CONCERNED THAT, HAD I BEEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, ON THE HIGHWAY, OR ON A CURVING ROAD, THE ENGINE FAILURE COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT INJURY OR FATALITY TO MYSELF OR OTHERS.

I BEEN RUNNING ERRANDS. I STOPPED THE CAR TO GO INTO THE STORE, GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE AND THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I WAS STRANDED WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD, HAD TO GET A TOW TO REPAIR SHOP. I WAS TOLD THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS BAD, COST ME $347.00. ON 12/29/11 SAME ISSUE, CAR WOULD NOT START THIS TIME LUCKILY I WAS AT HOME. I HAD TO GET A TOW TO THE REPAIR ANOTHER $51.00 AND WAS TOLD THE IGNITION SWITCH MUST HAVE HAD A DEFAULT AND I RECEIVED A NEW IGNITION SWITCH, AT NO CHARGE. TWO DAYS AGO, ALMOST 2 WEEKS AFTER LAST REPAIR, IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS TIME IN THE PARKING LOT 12 DEGREES OUTSIDE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER CALLED A TOW TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD ALL THIS TIME IT WAS THE AUTO THEFT SYSTEM WAS BAD AND CAUSED THE CAR TO NOT START AND ALSO WAS THE CAUSE OF THE IGNITION SWITCH TO NOT START THE CAR. I WAS CHARGED 388.00, PLUS A TOW FEE, FOR THE REPAIR OF A NEW IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER( THE PART USED A THE AUTO THEFT SYSTEM). BASICALLY , THIS AUTO THEFT SYSTEM HAS CAUSED ME OVER 700 IN A MONTH TIME AND LEFT ME IN DANGEROUS AREAS WITH NO WAY OF GETTING HOME. THIS NEEDS TO REIMBURSED BY GM BECAUSE IF THIS AUTO THEFT SYSTEM WAS PLACED ON THE CAR AS A BENEFIT AND PROTECTION TO THE OWNER OF THE CAR TO STOP THEFT IT IS NOT HELPING THE OWNER AT ALL ONLY PUTTING THE OWNER IN MORE HARM BECAUSE IT IS CAUSING THE OWNER TO NOT BE ABLE TO START THE CAR WITH THE KEY. LOW COOLANT LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. HAD THIS CHECKED DURING AN OIL CHANGE AND OIL WAS FOUND IN THE COOLANT. INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS REPLACED FOR THE 2ND TIME. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED 2 1/2 YEARS AGO. STARTING IN THE SPRING/SUMMER OF 2008 STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TURN SIGNALS ONLY WORKING PART OF THE TIME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE LEAVING THE HIGHWAY AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS FAILED. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE SEAL ON THE BACK LIGHTS GETS BAD AND ALLOWS MOISTURE TO GET IN AND SHORT OUT THE BRAKE, TURN SIGNAL AND BACK UP LIGHTS. REPAIRS ARE OVER $200 AND THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE IT WILL NOT HAPPEN WHEN THE LIGHTING HOUSING IS REPLACED. THE 2002 CHEVROLET TAHOE HAS FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE.. IT WAS COMPLETELY USELESS. IT DIDN'T WORK. FOUND CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINES AND MASTER CYLINDER, AND OTHER LINES THAT ARE LOCATED UNDER THE BATTERY CORROSION PLATE. THE BATTERY CORROSION PLATE WAS A GOOD IDEA. HOWEVER, PUTTING BRAKE LINES & OTHER COMPONENTS UNDER WERE ARE NOT A GOOD DESIGN. IT'S FLAWED, FOR IF THE BATTERY PLATE BECOMES CORRODED, THEN IT LEAKS ONTO THE LINES BELOW AND CAUSES DAMAGE AS IN MY VEHICLE. *AK

OUR HEAT ONLY WORKS ON NUMBER 4 AND 5. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR WITH MY BABY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR, THE CAR JUST DECIDED TO DIE ON ME. I HAD TO TRY TO GET OUT OF THE PASSING LANE, SO THAT I COULD PULL OFF OF THE ROAD. MY RADIO AND HEAT STILL WORKED, BUT CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. I OWN AN '02 CHEVY MALIBU (SINCE 2/28/02). I HAD THE SAME HAZARD SWITCH PROBLEM W/MY '02 MALIBU THAT THE '00 & '01 MODEL YEARS HAD, AND I HAD TO PAY FOR ITS REPLACEMENT (ROUGHLY $130). I HAD NO TURN SIGNALS OR HAZARD BLINKERS UNTIL IT WAS REPLACED. GIBSON CHEVY OF SOUTH HOLLAND, IL DID THE REPLACEMENT (IT'S IN THEIR REPAIR SYSTEM). MY CAR PRESENTLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 45K MILES. GM SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR THE MONEY I WAS FORCED TO PAY, GIVEN THE HISTORY OF THIS DEFECT WITH PRIOR MODEL YEARS AND THE FACT THIS SITUATION HAS NOT SEEMINGLY BEEN REPLACED WITH THE '02 MODEL YEAR, EITHER. I GOT NO NOTIFICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH THIS SWITCH OR A RECALL ON IT, EITHER. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE A MODULATOR REPLACED LAST WEEK (10/5/05) WHICH AFFECTS THE BLOWER MOTOR SPEEDS IN MY VEHICLE'S VENTILATION SYSTEM ($152.00). AT SPEEDS 1, 2 AND 3, THE BLOWER MOTOR WOULDN'T WORK AT ALL. EACH SPEED STARTING WITH THE LOWEST TO THE HIGHER SPEEDS WAS GOING OUT-THE ONLY SPEEDS WORKING WERE #4, #5 & DEFROST. I WAS FORCED TO HAVE THIS REPLACED OR I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO USE THE VENTS OR DEFROSTER OR THE BLOWER ITSELF (& THE DEFROSTER), WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. THIS REPAIR WAS DONE AT BRACH AUTO REPAIR (103RD & WESTERN AVE., CHICAGO IL -- THIS REPAIR DETAIL IS IN THEIR SYSTEM). BRACH AUTO ALSO REPLACED SOME PARTS IN MY FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM (IT WAS MALFUNCTIONING/ABOUT TO GO OUT). THE AMT I PAID FOR THIS IS ALSO IN THEIR SYSTEM. AT THAT TIME, TOM BEAULIEU INFORMED ME THAT GM HAS DISTRIBUTED A TSB RE: THIS SITUATION (WHICH I WAS NOT INFORMED OF UNTIL I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE MODULATOR REPAIR), & HOW I MUST RUN MY CAR W/ ONLY SHELL OR BP'S 93 OCTANE GASOLINE (EVEN THOUGH THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES IT SHOULD/CAN RUN ON 87 OCTANE). NOW, DUE TO A POOR FUEL INJECTOR DESIGN, RUNNING ANYTHING LESS THAN 93 OCTANE IN MY '02 MALIBU WILL RESULT IN MORE COSTLY REPAIRS. (3 SEPARATE FAILURES / 3 SEPARATE PARTS ON THE SAME CAR). NO INCIDENTS, CRASHES OR INJURY'S WHILE IN MY POSSESSION. THE 2002 CHEVY MALIBU I BOUGHT USED IN 2004 ONLY HAD 11,000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS A GOVERNMENT USED CAR. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE CAR THE BLINKERS STOPPED WORKING AND THEN BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. THEY NOW WORK WHEN THEY WANT TO WORK. NOW, ALMOST A YEAR LATER AT 41,000 MILES THE HORN BLOWS A SHORT BEEP ANYTIME. THE CAR MAY BE RUNNING OR NOT, THERE MAY NOT BE ANYONE EVEN IN THE CAR. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AND NOW THERE IS A BEEPING TONE INSIDE THAT I HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED. IT DOESN'T DO IT CONSTANTLY BUT I NOTICE IT WHEN I START THE CAR. IT IS A SHORT "ALERT" BEEP, KIND OF LIKE AN ALARM. IT BEEPS ONCE, PAUSE, AND THEN ABOUT THREE TIMES PAUSE AND THEN ONCE MORE. JUST WONDERING IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS AS THE WARRANTY IS NOT IN AFFECT ANY LONGER. IN 2002, I BOUGHT A 2002 CHEVY MALIBU. SINCE THEN IT'S BEEN GIVING ME A LOT OF PROBLEMS. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THE WATER FOUND IN BOTH TAIL LIGHTS; THIS WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THEN THERE WAS WATER COMING IN THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, THE BRAKES, AND THE TORQUE NEEDING TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THEN IT WAS THE HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT AND I GOT THEM REPLACED AT A WALMART; MIND YOU, SINCE THE 1ST PROBLEM, NONE OF THIS HAS BEEN UNDER WARRANTY. NOW IT'S THE AIRBAG GONE BAD, COOLING SYSTEM GONE BAD, AND THE BRAKES AGAIN, ALONG WITH A FUEL PUMP. THE CALIPERS HAVE TO BE REPLACED STILL, THE AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT, AND THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP NOW TO DIAGNOSE WHAT IS WRONG WITHIN THE FUELING SYSTEM THAT MAKES THE CAR NOT START. OH! THIS IS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD, BUT THE BUSHINGS ON THE FRONT STRUTS OF THE 2002 CHEVY MALIBU RATTLE AND SQUEAK STARTING AROUND 30K MILES AND GET PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. ALSO THE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL UNIT TENDS TO GO BAD. BOTH ARE RATHER COSTLY TO FIX PROBLEMS DIDN'T SURFACE TILL AFTER THE 3/36 WARRANTY WAS UP. *JB

THE ROTORS ON THIS VEHICLE WARPED WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR AND CONTINUE TO WARP EVERY TWO TO FOUR MONTHS. THIS IS CAUSING WEAR ON THE BRAKES WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 21338 MILES AT MY COST AND AGAIN AT 31474 MILES AT THE DEALERS COST.

AT 15,000 MILES I HAD A PISTON KNOCK DEVELOP. PISTONS WERE REPLACED AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE. GAS CAP SEAL BAD AT SAME TIME. DECK LID NOT PROPERLY ADJUSTED AT TIME OF PURCHASE. AT 25,000 THE REAR LEFT SPEAKER WAS REPLACED DUE NOT WORKING AND THE TORQUE CLUTCH CONVERTER WAS COMING APART AND STUCK IN THE OFF POSITION. I WAS IN A WRECK LAST MONDAY NIGHT WHILE DRIVING A COMPANY VAN. THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN YOU SET IT AT A SPEED THEN GO DOWN A HILL IT WOULD GET 15-20 MILES FASTER. ANY HOW THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WENT DOWN AND I HIT A GUARD RAIL WITH THE FRONT OF THE VAN A FIRE STARTED IMMEDIATELY BY MY LEFT FOOT AND NONE OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UNTIL THE FIRE GOT TO THEM. THE VAN ROLLED OVER ONCE AND LANDED ON ITS WHEELS THE DOORS WOULDN'T OPEN I ROLLED DOWN THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AND GOT OUT THAT WAY AND THE ABS BRAKES WOULD LOCK UP WHEN YOU HAVE TO GET ON THEM REAL HARD. I PURCHASED A NEW 2002 CHEVY MALIBU ON AUGUST 1, 2002. FOUR DAYS AND 250 MILES LATER THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW "EXPLODED" WHILE I WAS TRAVELING ALONE DOWN I-90 AT 75 MILES AN HOUR. I FEEL THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE WINDOW OR THE CAR ITSELF TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN FOR "NO APPARENT " REASON. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR WINDOW REPLACD AND THE RIGHT EXTERIOR OF THE CAR REPAINTED FROM THE FLYING GLASS NICKING AND GOUGING THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. I HAD BROKEN GLASS IN BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK SEATS. THE WINDOW AND PAINTING WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP FROM GETTING IT REPAIRED I NOTICED THEY (BODYSHOP) HAD SNAPPED BOTH REAR SEATBELTS. WHEN I GOT THE CAR HOME, I UNSNAPPED THE SEAT BELTS AND NOTICED THEY WOULD NOT RETRACTED BACK IN, BUT INSTEAD, JUST HUNG DOWN ONTO THE SEAT. I CALLED CORY PETERSON, HEAD OF SALES, AND TOLD HIM ABOUT THE SEATBELTS, AND HE TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR IN THE NEXT DAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH, TO HAVE THEM CHECKED. MY HUSBAND AND I TOOK IT IN, AND DAVE HALLAND LOOKED AT BOTH SEAT BELTS AND SAID, "THEY ARE WORN OUT." I SAID "WORN OUT! THE CAR IS A MONTH OLD!" HE DID NOT HAVE REPLACEMENT PARTS THAT THAT TIME AND SAID HE WOULD ORDER THEM AND SET US UP FOR AN SEPTEMBER 20TH APPOINTMENT. I TOOK IT BACK ON THAT DATE, AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE NOT IN. HE HAD ANOTHER MAN CHECK OUT THE SEAT BELTS AT THIS TIME AND HE SAID THE "RETRACTORS" WERE DEFECTIVE AND THE ENTIRE SEAT BELTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. DAVE HALLAND AGAIN TOLD ME HE WOULD HAVE THE PARTS OVER NIGHT EXPRESSED AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY WERE IN. I WAITED AND WAITED AND FINALLY CALLED FOR DAVE ON SEPTEMBER 30TH AND OCTOBER 1, 2002. AND LEFT A MESSAGE FOR A CALL BACK. AFTER NO WORD, I CALLED A REQUESTED TO TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. I WAS TURNED OVER TO TERRY, AND HE TOLD ME THE PARTS HAD BEEN THERE FOR OVER A WEEK. I TOLD HIM I WANTED THE PARTS WHEN THEY WERE REMOVED AND HE TOLD ME I COULD NOT HAVE THEM. I SAID, "I BOUGHT THIS CAR, DIDN'T I?" HE SAID"

THE CAR JERKS AT 70 MPH, DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION WHEN STARTING THE CAR (WAS NOT ACTIVATED), DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE CAR FEELS UNSTABLE AND SHACKS AT 50+ MPH (SINCE THE TIME OF PURCHASE THE TIRE PRESSURE HAS NOT BEEN ADJUSTED), THE DEALER SAID THE TIRE WAS OVER INFLATED, TIRE PRESSURE WAS CORRECTED, BUT THE SHACKING HAS BECOME WORSE.
