After several years of instability, the power steering on my 2007 Chevy Malibu has started to lock up while driving. Turning of the vehicle is then difficult. The issue resolves only by turning the engine off and then on again, but does not remain resolved.The readout on the dash informs me that there is an issue with the power steering. I spoke with Chevrolet customer service and was told that they would not assist me financially in fixing the problem. They explained that there is no recall on vehicles with my VIN, although I see that there have been in the past. The number of issues reported on this website indicates that this issue is ongoing and widespread, and no one appears to be getting assistance by the manufacture. I suppose it's going to take a few fatalities to get the attention of Chevrolet and the NHTSA before some sort of action is taken.

The power steering fails. Chevrolet (manufacturer) and Pine Belt Chevrolet (NJ) both claim that our vehicle was in for the recall and did not have an issue. The power steering has failed since we bought the car new in 2006. The problem was intermittent for years, but recently the power steering fails 5 or more times during a 10 mile trip. We shut the car off and restart it and the power steering comes back on. We contacted Chevrolet. They told us our car was repaired/checked for the recall and they are not responsible. We feel that since there was a recall for this that they should fix the problem. They told us that the parts are not under warranty but since it was a recall we think it should still be covered under the recall. We are currently in Florida and don't know if it is safe to drive the car back home to NJ.

The contact's mother owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the power steering assist intermittently failed to operate as needed with the "Power Steering Fault" message displayed. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the power steering failure occurred, and excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V064000 (Steering). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

My 2007 Chevy Malibu began experiencing intermittent power steering failure at around 103,000 miles. This issue makes the vehicle extremely dangerous to drive, even though it is not classified as an official recall because it only affects certain VIN numbers. However, I see multiple other owners reporting the same problem, proving this is a widespread defect. I had the issue diagnosed as a failing torque sensor, which was previously covered under Chevrolet’s Special Coverage Adjustment 10183. Unfortunately, this coverage expired in 2022 or at 120,000 miles—yet my vehicle has significantly less mileage and still exhibits the defect. Chevrolet has refused to take responsibility for this known issue. The previous owner of the vehicle passed away before the car transferred ownership to me, so it was impossible to have this defect fixed while coverage was still active. This leaves me, and others in my situation, vulnerable to a sudden and unexpected loss of steering assistance. This defect poses a severe safety risk. If the power steering fails at high speeds, in rainy conditions, or on the freeway, it could lead to an accident. I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate this issue further and pressure Chevrolet to extend coverage or issue an official recall.

MY AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. CHEVY DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED IT AND I NEED A NEW PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE. THEY SAID THIS IS UP TO ME TO FIND. I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A NEW ONE AND CANNOT FIND IT ANYWHERE. 2017 THE AIRBAG LIGHT STOPPED SENSING PASSENGER SIDE AND SERVICE AIRBAG APPEARED ON SCREEN WITH THE DASH LIGHT TOO. REPAIR WORKED TO GET STICKER IN 2017 BUT DID NOT TAKE (NEW SEAT & SENSOR) CAN NOT GET A STICKER THIS YEAR WITH THE LIGHT ON. SPECIALIST IN WIRING SAID THEY SPENT ALOT OF TIME AND CONSULTED DEALERSHIP AND CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR OR HAVE A PASSENGER RIDE WITH ME. HAVE SPENT ABOUT 1500.00 TRYING TO FIX THIS ISSUE. LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME WITH SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING FOR PASSENGER SIDE. The steering wheel start shaking and then on the middle console it showed “POWER STEERING”. Now whenever I drive it it’ll pop up and the steering wheel locks up and it is scary because it doesn’t move. And when I turn of the car it’ll unlock but as soon as I start driving it again it does it again.

I bought the car and the next day it randomly locked up my steering in the middle of traffic. If I turn my car off then turn it on while jerking the wheel side to side it will allow me power steering for just a short moment. Once it worked for a month continuously without shutting off on me then it randomly started locking up again. There’s no symptoms or warning except for the car steers on its own while in park. The wheel moves and makes a screeching noise. It’s locked up on me in traffic numerous times. It’s a huge hazard. Trying to get off the street when it locks up is just a safety hazard for everyone around.

I was driving in the country and my vehicle power steering and electronic setting started messing up while I was driving 50 miles an hour while it was locking up I was confused and then pulled over and thought it was just a glitch in the computer system I then turned off my car and then turned it back on and everything seemed fine while I was driving after a minute the steering wheel locked again and there was a deer in front of me my insurance went up because of this incident and I lost my car for a month once I got my car again from the body shop it stopped locking up on the steering wheel then last Friday I brought it to the mechanic and he told me the steering is electronic so there is nothing he can do and that I will have to take it to a dealer the computer system in these cars are messed up and they are dangerous to drive there are thousands of complaints just like this and recalls for GM but for some reason the 2007 Chevy Malibu didn't make the cut.

I FIRST ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. MY VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE MESSAGE 'POWER STEERING' CAME ON THE DASHBOARD AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING ASSIST. I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED UP THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE SO I WAS HOPEFUL ABOUT THE SITUATION. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A SUPPOSED 'WARRANTY' FOR MY VEHICLE AND I WAS OUT OF THE MILEAGE & TIME PERIOD FOR MY VEHICLE. AND ADDITIONALLY THE RECALL WAS NEVER GIVEN TO MY VEHICLE. IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME THAT THERE IS A SPECIFIC RECALL FOR THIS MODEL OF CHEVY MALIBU'S AND I OWN ONE AND MY CAR JUST SO HAPPENS TO NOT HAVE THE RECALL. I'VE CALLED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY INSIST THEY ARE NOT LIABLE FOR THIS AND IT WILL BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. MY POWER STEERING HAS CUT OUT ON ME ON THE HIGHWAY AND POSES A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING EXPERIENCE. I WOULD LIKE TO SETTLE THIS BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. THE PHOTO THAT I'VE LISTED BELOW IS AN INVOICE FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THEY DIAGNOASED MY CAR AND SAID IT WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET.

THE FUEL GAUGE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. OK IN FILLED THE TANK UP TODAY AND PUT IN A LOCUS FUEL CLEANER (01/22/2021) ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS LIKE MY CAR WAS GASPING FOR GAS. MY FUEL GAUGE KEEPS MOVING UP IN DOWN. EVEN THOUGH I HAD JUST FILLED THE TANK UP IT WOULD CHIME DROP TO EMPTY ACCULERATE LIKE IT WAS HAVING A HARD TIME BREATHING SPIKE BACK UP TO THE FUEL LEVEL START DRIVING FINE THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN DROP DOWN TO E. MY 2007 CHEVY MALIBU IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE. THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWS EMPTY WHEN I HAVE A FULL TANK OF GAS THEN IT GOES UP TO FULL. WHEN I DRIVE FOR A WHILE THE GAUGE GOES DOWN TO EMPTY. ALSO THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT STAYS ON. SOMETIMES IT GOES OUT BUT COMES BACK ON. THE FUELS GAUGE IS ERRATIC DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THA TANK AT ANY GIVEN TIME. MECHANIC SAID IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX.

I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF MY 2007 CHEVY MALIBU AND THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED, WHEN I WAS GOING 70+ MPH ON THE FREEWAY TODAY. I HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN SEVRAL MONTHS AGO TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT COULD NO LONGER BE FIXED DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF MILES. I DIDN'T OWN THE VEHICLE WHEN GM WAS FIXING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I DRIVE AN HOUR ON FREEWAY TO WORK AND NO ONE IS HELPING ME. I COULD NOT MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL TO EVEN PULL OFF THE FREEWAY. I SLOWED DOWN TO WHEN THERE WAS A CURVE AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY.

THE RECALL NUMBER IS 130360. UPON CONTACTING THEM TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, DEALER ADVISED IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL. I CALLED ANOTHER DEALER & HE STATED IT WAS COVERED, BUT WORK IS DONE. I WAS INFORMED IT WAS NOT COMPLETED YET. LATER, CHECKED NHTSA WEBSITE AND IT APPEARS CHANGES WERE MADE ON THE VIN AS OF TODAY. I REALLY NEED TO HAVE THIS ISSUED REPAIRED SO THAT MY CAR CAN PASS INSPECTION AND BE RE-REGISTERED. I HAVE ATTACHED INSPECTION AND REPAIR DIAGNOSIS INVOICES BELOW.

I HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THROUGHOUT 2020 WHERE THE BRAKE LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT DEPRESSION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL TURN OFF UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. CRUISE CONTROL WILL ALSO NOT FUNCTION WHEN THIS MALFUNCTION IS OCCURRING. I AM CONVINCED THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT PROMPTED A RECALL BACK IN 2014. MY CAR WAS REPAIRED THROUGH THE RECALL CAMPAIGN, HOWEVER, I'M CONVINCED THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND IT POSES A SAFETY RISK AND RAISES THE POSSIBILITY OF SOMEONE REAR-ENDING ME IF MY BRAKE LIGHTS AREN'T OPERATING AS THEY SHOULD. The Vehicles brake lights are not working Properly. They are on when driving and no brake pedal pressure is applied. When you Apply Brake Pedal Pressure the Brake lights go out. It stated that the electrical pins going to the body control computer did not have sufficient Contact. The Bulletin went on to say that to attempt to resolve the issue apply Dielectric Grease to the contacts in an effort to allow the contacts to make sufficient contact to pass the current. They also advised to secure the wiring Harness to the body control computer and structure of the car. This is a major Safety issue Effecting cars from 2006-2014.

I USED TO GET A WARNING TO "SERVICE AIRBAGS" ON THE STEREO DISPLAY, AND A CHIME, TYPICALLY WHEN I FIRST STARTED UP THE CAR. THIS STARTED WHEN I WAS LIVING IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. I DROVE WITH MY BACKPACK ON THE PASSENGER SEAT, AND OCCASIONALLY THAT SEAT WOULD CHIME FOR PASSENGER TO BUCKLE UP. THE SERVICE AIR BAG MESSAGE WOULD STAY UP FOR ABOUT 5 MILES OF DRIVING, THEN WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE AGAIN. FINALLY CAUGHT IT IN THE ACT, GOT IT TO A DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY TOLD ME THEIR DIAGNOSTIC CAME UP WITH A PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR WAS FAILING/HAD FAILED. THE ONLY REMEDY OFFERED WAS TO CLEAR THE COMPUTER, OR CONSIDER A BRAND NEW PASSENGER SEAT (WHICH AT THAT TIME EXCEEDED THE ESTIMATED BLUE BOOK VALUE). CLEARING THE COMPUTER OF THAT TROUBLE CODE LASTED ABOUT A WEEK. COULDN'T OFFER MORE INFO SUCH AS IF THE AIRBAG WOULDN'T DEPLOY IF NEEDED, OR IF IT WAS LIKE A JACK-IN-THE-BOX AND MIGHT TRIP UNNECESSARILY. THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT PRESSING BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED, BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF. FIRST NOTICED THIS BECAUSE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT SET. TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIRS AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY FOUND THE STOPLAMP SWITCH TO BE FAULTY AND REPLACED. THREE DAYS LATER, BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON AGAIN WITHOUT PRESSING BRAKE PEDAL. TOOK IT IN AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY FOUND A BULLETIN ON PROBLEM AND APPLIED DIELECTRIC GREASE TO THE BCM CONNECTORS. WITHIN A MONTH, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN INTERMITTENTLY, BUT DID NOT TAKE IN. SINCE MAY 2014, BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ALMOST ALWAYS ON WHILE DRIVING EVEN THOUGH BRAKE PEDAL NOT PRESSED. LOOKED UP SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON SAFERCAR.GOV AND FOUND RECALL NOTICE ON VEHICLE. And the service airbag light is on and seemingly has the same issues as the 2010 Malibu Maxx which was recalled and replaced free of charge and frankly I don't have the 1200 $ to make sure it doesn't kill me I'm not sure why with as many 2007s that this is an issue in why it isn't recalled...

I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE BREAK LIGHT BEING ON CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BEARDMORE CHEVROLET IN BELLEVUE NEBRASKA. I BELIEVED IT WAS A RECALL ISSUE (AND STILL DO), BEARDMORE PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION AND TOLD ME IT WAS NOT. I TOLD THEM THAT SINCE IT WAS NOT A RECALL ISSUE I WOULD TAKE IT TO MY OWN MECHANIC. HOWEVER WHEN I LEFT BEARDMORE CHEVROLET MY BREAK LIGHTS NO LONGER WORKED AT ALL. THEY DID NOT PUT ANYTHING BACK TOGETHER AND MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A SHORT SOMEWHERE IN THE BREAK SYSTEM AND HE ALONG WITH 2 OTHER CERTIFIED GM MECHANICS COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE SHORT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW I CAN GO FROM HAVING BREAK LIGHTS ON ALL THE TIME WHILE DRIVING TO NOT HAVING ANY BREAK LIGHTS AT ALL.

My power steering goes out when driving randomly. This has been happening for the last three or four weeks a few times a day. It happens when I'm driving on the highway it happens at all speeds the steering wheel consistently shakes. I have called many dealerships and they want to charge a fee for checking on my recalls. Nothing has been inspected by anyone but I do get warning messages about power steering failure and needing to check my air bag.

I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION CYLINDER WAS OFF, I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND RESEARCHED RECALLS ON THIS CAR THROUGH THE SAFECAR.COM WEBSITE AND SAW A TRANSMISSION RELATED RECALL (RECALL NUMBER 14152). I CALLED THE ASSOCIATED GM RECALL CENTER TOLD THEM MY ISSUE AND GAVE THEM THE RECALL NUMBER. THE REPRESENTATIVE PULLED UP THE RECALL DESCRIPTION FOR RECALL NUMBER 14152 AND THE CONSEQUENCES LISTED IN THE GM DIRECTORY WERE NOT THE SAME LANGUAGE AS THE CONSEQUENCES ON SAFECAR.GOV. SHE COULDN'T EXPLAIN WHY THE DESCRIPTION WAS NOT THE SAME IN THE GM DIRECTORY AS THE GOVERNMENT SAFECAR WEBSITE AND I FOUND THAT DISTURBING. SO THAT IS MY FIRST COMPLAINT--THE GM SYSTEM AND NATIONAL WEBSITE ARE NOT IN ACCORDANCE. SECONDLY, MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY AND THE TRANSMISSION CYLINDER IN MY CAR IS OFF, UNDER MY VIN THE CAR HAD THE TRANSMISSION RECALL FIXED IN 2015 BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. 3 YEARS LATER AND THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. 2007 CHEVY MALIBU ELECTRICAL HELL MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY FINE ASIDE FROM THE POWER STEERING RECALL THAT WAS FIXED ON IT. THEN ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER MY CAR CRANKS BUT DOESN'T START! I WAS DRIVING IT 20 MINS PRIOR AND THEN THIS HAPPENS. THE RADIO,THE LIGHTS, THE HORN AND THE DINGING WITH THE DOOR OPEN, ALL STILL WORKED. UNSUCCESSFULLY TRYING TO START IT I LEFT IT ALONE TO GET TOWED. 5 DAYS LATER I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK SAYING IT STARTED JUST FINE THEY CAN'T DETECT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT, BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T READ THE CODE IT GAVE OUT, AND TO KEEP NOTES OF WEIRD THINGS TO BRING IT BACK IN. IN DOING SO MY CAR WAS FINE FOR A MONTH AND A HALF, THEY'RE WERE NO ISSUES. THE NEXT TIME MY CAR DID THE CRANK AND NO START I NOTICED THE SECURITY ICON LIGHTING UP, AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT I LEFT MY RADIO AND AIR ON. IT'S LATE AT NIGHT, I'M ALONE AND MY CAR IS FAILING ME, AFTER TRYING FOR 15 MINUTES I GOT MY CAR TO START. THE THIRD TIME IS THE WORST TIME, BY THIS POINT IT'S ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THE 2ND INCIDENT. SAME SCENARIO, JUST DROVE IT 20 MINS PRIOR AND IT WAS FINE, THEN ANOTHER CRANK NO START FOR HOURS. EVEN TRIED TO LEAVE MY KEY IN TO IGNITION. AFTER HOURS I GOT IT TO START AND MAKING IT HOME THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND CAME TO A COMPLETE HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EXTREMELY BUSY STREET, PUTTING ON MY BRAKE LIGHTS I AVOIDED GETTING REAR ENDED. I TOOK THE KEY OUT AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT STARTED SOMEHOW. AFTER GETTING IT HOME I HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT SINCE AND A NUMBER OF MORE ISSUES STARTED HAPPENING. MY LOCKS HAVE NOW STARTED TO MAKE AN OBNOXIOUS BUZZING NOISE WHEN GETTING UNLOCKED, THE SERVICE AIR BAG NOTIFICATION WILL LIGHT-UP ON THE DASH AND DISAPPEAR QUICKLY, ALL ICONS LIGHT UP ON DASHBOARD , SECURITY ICON FLASHES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, CAR WILL NOT START ON CRANK, RADIO FADES OUT AND COMES BACK ON, HORN IS A FAINT NOISE. THE CHEVROLET DEALER APPLIED DIELECTRIC GREASE TO A CONNECTOR IN NOVEMBER 2012, AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED THIS YEAR (2013), INCLUDING AN INSTANCE WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT LIGHT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ACTIVATED! The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the four doors would inadvertently lock and unlock, causing the battery to drain quickly. The contact used pliers to unlock and open the doors. Additionally, the headlights were dimmed, and the turn signals intermittently failed to operate as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the Body Control Module (BCM) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

I was driving on the highway and my car steering wheel became really tight and caused my car to drift in the right lane. The steering wheel locked up and became really stiff to turn. It has a faint burnt smell . I can not risk the chance of the car catching on fire with me and /or the kids in the car. I had to move into the shoulder on the highway I was about side swipe the car that was in the right lane beside me. I had minor children in the car when it first happned. I did look up recalls and talked to several GM customer service and was informed the car did have a recall but it has expired since then . If I would have known about the recall i would have never brought this used car. When I brought the car from the auction they informed it was no electric probelms with the car but it is. Also killed me and my kids the way the wheel just locked and didnt move. A customer service rep said she would give me a $100 coupon off services . But I honestly I do not have the extra money to take the car to a delaership and get fixed . I know that will cost me almost $1000. There were no warning lights signal anythignto indicate it has an electric power steering problem. Can you as a company find it in the value and core components of the company moral values and help Assist with this expired recall on the power steering

STARTING BEFORE MAY 2015 AND LASTING UNTIL 11/19/15, THE YELLOW WARNING DASHBOARD LIGHTS, GAUGES, AND DIC WOULD OCCASIONALLY GO BERSERK WHILE DRIVING. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS ON AN INTERSTATE AROUND 8AM IN THE MORNING IN MAY OF 2015. AT THE SAME TIME DURING THESE EPISODES, THE SHIFTING OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD BE JERKY. THE LIGHTS WOULD "SETTLE DOWN" AFTER LONG ENOUGH, BUT SOME COMBINATION OF LIGHTS ALWAYS REMAINED ON AT THE END OF THE EPISODES, SUCH AS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SECURITY LIGHT, AND ABS LIGHT. THE CAR WOULD SEEM TO RETURN TO NORMAL SOMETIMES AFTER BEING RESTARTED. I HAD A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP CHECK IT OUT IN 5/15/2015 AND THEY FOUND NOTHING. SOMETIMES DURING THESE EPISODES, THE POWER STEERING WOULD ALSO LOSE POWER. THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT AND HE PUT IN A NEW IGNITION SWITCH 11/19/15. THE CAR HAS NOT GONE BERSERK SINCE THEN, BUT THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK RELIABLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ONCE, BUT WENT OFF. THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE HAS FAILED TO WORK TWICE SINCE THEN TOO. THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO TEMPORARILY STOPPED WORKING.

THE RADIO WAS SCROLLING "POWER STEERING", BUT HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON. MANAGED TO GET TO A GAS STATION AND THEN AFTER MANY OF US LOOKING AT IT REALIZED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING UNIT. THE NEEDED PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME SO I WAITED FOR ANOTHER LETTER TO COME AND FINALLY RECEIVED A MONTH OR SO LATER (AUGUST). I TOOK MY CAR TO THE WESLEY CHAPEL GM DEALER AND THEY COMPLETED THE RECALL WORK FOR FREE. ALTHOUGH, THEY ENDED UP CHARGING ME $2,400 FOR ELECTRICAL, AND FUSE DAMAGE TO MY CAR THAT THEY SAY WAS NOT RELATED TO THIS RECALL, ALTHOUGH BASED ON EVERYTHING I HAVE READ I BELIEVE THESE CHARGES WERE A REFLECTION OF THE RECALL. MY HANDS WERE TIED AS I NEED MY CAR SO I PAID THE FEE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND CALLED GM AND HAD THEM OPEN UP A TICKET TO LOOK INTO MY ISSUE, CHARGES, AND WHAT THE DEALERSHIP FIXED. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SUDDENLY QUIT SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING; BOTH AT FREEWAY SPEED AND WHILE EXITING THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 15 MPH. WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILS THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD MAKE A CLICKING SOUND, SOMETIMES THERE WOULD BE A CHIME AND THE BATTERY LIGHT INDICATOR ON THE DASH. ONLY ONE TIME THE CENTER CONSOLE DISPLAYED "POWER STEERING." WE NARROWLY AVOIDED A CRASH WHILE GOING AROUND A CURVE IN THE FREEWAY. THE LOSS OF POWER ASSIST REQUIRED EXERTING MORE FORCE THAN NORMAL TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE DIVIDER. WHEN THE POWER STEERING RE-ENGAGED WITHOUT WARNING WE SWERVED TOWARDS A TRUCK IN THE ADJACENT LANE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE HARNESS CAME LOOSE AND IT CAUSED THE WIRING UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO CHAFF AND EXPOSE THE WIRING WHICH THEN TOUCHED EACH OTHER AND CAUSED THE MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000. HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SENSOR, THOUGHT IT WAS FUEL LEVEL SENSOR BUT APPARENTLY FROM ALL OTHERS REPORTS THESE ARE SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS CAUSES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE REMOTE START TO WORK. ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH SENSOR IN PASSENGER SEAT. JUST WORKS RANDOMLY. 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEMS WITH GAS GAUGE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE RE-FUELED THE VEHICLE, THE GAS GAUGE REACHED APPROXIMATELY 3/4 FULL, THE FUEL GAUGE NEEDLE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE GAS GAUGE CONTINUED TO READ EMPTY AND THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON UNTIL THREE TO FOUR GALLONS OF GAS WAS USED. THE GAUGE WOULD THEN BEGIN TO READ THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK AND WOULD CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL THE TANK WAS FILLED AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ON FOR SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL GAS WAS PUT IN THE TANK ABOVE 3/4 FULL. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE FUEL GAUGE LEVER SENSOR WAS POORLY DESIGNED. *JB UPDATED 06/19/12 *JB

I OWN A 2007 CHEVY MALIBU 2LT WHICH HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SENSOR SINCE I BOUGHT IT. HAVE TAKEN INTO DEALERSHIP BUT NOTHING CAN BE FOUND WRONG. REPLACED FUEL CAP TO SEE IF THAT WAS PROBLEM BUT NOTHING CHANGED. FUEL LIGHT STAYS ON EMPTY EVEN WITH FULL TANK OF GAS PLUS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. THE ONLY TIME IT WORKS IS WHEN I TRAVEL VERY LONG DISTANCES OTHERWISE NOTHING. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE WAY CHEVY DOES THEIR CUSTOMERS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THIS AND IT SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THEIR FUEL SYSTEM. I DEFINITELY THINK A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE ON THIS ISSUE. NOW I AM STARTING TO SMELL GAS FUMES IN MY CAR. MY 4 YEAR OLD SON WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME HELPING TO CLEAN OUT THE CAR WHEN HE WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE WITHOUT ANY KEYS OR ANYTHING. LUCKILY, I WAS IN THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK INTO PARK BUT ONLY AFTER IT HIT A FENCE AND DAMAGED THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I AM ABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE WHILE THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING AND THERE WERE NO KEYS IN IT. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE I WAS ABLE TO LEAVE IT IN DRIVE AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND TAKING THE KEYS OUT. IT WILL ALSO ALLOW YOU TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE FIRST. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPUTER RELATED ISSUES THAT HAVE ALSO BEGAN TO HAPPEN SUCH AS THE GAS GAUGE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT SAYS THAT I AM ON EMPTY WHEN IN FACT THE TANK IS FULL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE GEAR HAD TO BE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL SO THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD START UP. THE SHIFT LINKAGE MALFUNCTIONED WHICH CAUSED THE INABILITY TO SHIFT GEARS. FURTHERMORE, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD BEEN REPLACED ON TWO OCCASIONS BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMNATED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL FAILURES WITH HER VEHICLE SINCE THE DAY IT WAS PURCHASED. THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR DISASSEMBLED WHEN SHE PULLED IT DOWN. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VISOR, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007, THE POWER LOCKS FAILED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO BE TRAPPED INSIDE. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF ACTIVATING THE REMOTE ENTRY, SHE WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE LOCKS AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE DOOR DETONATORS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN NOVEMBER OF 2008, WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH IN RAINY CONDITIONS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TO ACTIVATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER DUE TO LACK OF VISIBILITY AND WAITED FOR THE RAIN TO STOP. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCHED FAILED AND REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. ON DECEMBER 22, 2008, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CABIN FILTER WAS MISSING. HE FURTHER STATED THAT THE CABIN FILTER WAS NEVER PLACED IN THE VEHICLE FROM THE DATE IT WAS MANUFACTURED. THE COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WOULD BE $30. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO CURRENT RECALLS REGARDING THE FAILURES THAT SHE WAS EXPERIENCING; HOWEVER, SHE WAS OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND OIL CHANGES FOR UP TO 24,000 MILES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,740.

ON 7/20 MY CHEVROLET MALIBU'S SUNROOF EXPLODED. I FELT IT WAS A FLUKE OR DEFECT. I WAS DRIVING ON I-96 AND ENTERING I-94 DURING THE MORNING HEADING TOWARDS MY GRANDSON'S DAY CAMP. AFTER COMING OUT OF THE OVERPASS ENTRANCE FROM 96 TO 94, WITHIN LESS THAN A 1/4 MILE, I HEARD THIS TREMENDOUSLY LOUD SOUNDS AND GLASS BEGAN TO SHOWER ME AND MY GRANDSON CAUSING MINORS CUTS. I AM GRATEFUL I DID NOT LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I LEASED THIS CAR ON 6/1. IT IS LESS THAN 60 DAYS OLD. RICHARD VOSS FROM JEFFERSON CHEVROLET HAD THE GLASS REMOVED WITHOUT SO MUCH AS INDICATING TO ME THAT HE FELT SOMETHING HIT THE CAR AND WHEREAS I HAD EXPLAINED TO HIM, FROM THE DIRECTION I WAS TRAVELING, THE SPEED OF THE WIND THAT DAY, THE SOUND OF THE EXPLOSION, THE LACK OF HEARING ANY OBJECT HIT THE TOP OF THE CAR PRIOR TO THE ERUPTION, ELIMINATED MY OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A CLAIMS ADJUSTER VIEW THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT. I FEEL THAT MY RIGHTS TO A FAIR DETERMINATION WERE ELIMINATED ALONG WITH THE REMOVAL OF ANY EVIDENCE TO VERIFY EITHER CLAIM AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THIS INCIDENT WAS CAUSED FROM THE PENETRATION OF A FOREIGN OBJECT OR A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. GLASS SHATTERED ALL OVER ME AND MY GRANDSON. WE FORTUNATE TO BE ALIVE. WE ONLY SUFFERED MINOR CUTS AND TENSION.
