When the Auto Start/Stop engages at a stop sign or light it causes the car to turn off. I have trouble turning it back over. Sometimes it starts. Other times it does not. I have changed the mass airflow sensor, mass air pressure sensor, vvt solenoid. It has been in and out of a couple shops without an answer of why it is doing this. It is readily available for an inspection. There were not any warning lights or messages produced on the dash. This started happening about 3 months ago. My child and myself is in danger every time it dies at a stop light.

While driving 60 MPH on the highway my car started stuttering then lost all power. It threw 3 codes P0131, P2097 and P0171. I have spent over $1,000.00 and a month later they tell me it was my intake bolts that were loose. They replaced every part PCV valve, MAF sensor, O2 sensor and car still wouldn't run right. PLEASE address this issue as that is UNSAFE for a car to just stop on the highway.

have a 2014 Malibu with 132,000 miles. . It stalls in traffic, at intersections and stop signs, which is a dangerous safety issue. The Auto Stop will engage and when I put my foot on the accelerator, it stalls out. Also does it right when I start the engine at times.

I receive a message on my screen stated to shift to park when it is already in park. I have to wiggle the shifter as well as try multiple times before the screen clears. I looked at information stating this is a problem but not to the level of recall but fixed by the dealership. I was told my vehicle did not qualify for the free repair. Wondering why?

I am uncertain of what’s causing this major issue to happen. I see a lot of forums of other customers having the same exact issue and it is a HUGE SAFETY RISK in my personal opinion from experience. For the last maybe 9 months I’ve been dealing with the auto stop feature coming on, then once you let off the break the car doesn’t crank back up. This is very scary in traffic and stoplights much less everywhere!!! I have to turn the key to off and place it back in park, then proceed to crank back up. Only nearly EVERY SINGLE TIME it also will not crank up manually. Also, this issue is not showing ANY check engine codes, so diagnosing this issue has not been resolved. I’ve been stuck waiting 20 minutes or so. Please PLEASE recall whatever is causing this issue for so many of us customers!!!

I have been an issue with my auto stop system past 6 months. While driving and coming to a complete stop the auto stop kicks into gear as it should but when I release the gas pedal to drive off it stalls for a about 20 seconds unlocking/locking doors and proceeds to kick into drive gear. I have had auxiliary battery checked and it’s good. Checked main battery components those are good too! No check engine light came on only when I removed auxiliary battery removed to have it diagnosed it did give me a code of UO101 but quickly went away when replaced. Still trying to figure what the issue may be but it’s becoming more and more constant and worse. Dangerous when it happens on uphill and cars behind because car rolls backwards almost hitting them.

Auto start stop malfunctioning, my safety as well as my children have been in the car when the car has stopped while in the middle of driving. It has stopped in the middle of the road and on the freeway in moving traffic and for 1-3 minutes the car won’t start back up leaving me and my family stranded in the middle of the road where anyone can and have almost hit us. When I’ve sent the car to my dealer mechanic he told me the car cuts off like that because it runs hot when that is not the reason after he told me that he fixed I drove off and it stopped on me as the light was turning green for traffic to go. The car had the issue about 3 days after i purchased it I’ve which was last year 2024 in June and as of now the issue still hasn’t been fixed by the dealer

Hello. I have a 2014 Malibu. Recently it has been stalling when coming to a stop and yet there are no engine/warning lights on. Took it to numerous mechanics, spoke with people at the dealership service area and yet nothing! Nobody can figure it out at all. I’ve had the throttle body replaced, module piece, and a few other parts by someone who previously worked at the Chevrolet dealership and even they can’t figure it out. This is not only a safety hazard but a very uncomfortable feeling riding a car and having to put it into Neutral when approaching a light or stop sign ! My car will tell me if my turn signal is on for longer than 2-3 minutes so I’m not understanding why it won’t tell me why my car is shutting off. I’m frustrated because I’m paying different mechanics to figure it out and it’s still an unsolved problem! It would be nice if Chevrolet can look at everyone’s vehicle and not charge this time!! I have children so having them ride in a car that stalls is UNACCEPTABLE!

No incident has occurred, thankfully. Car was purchased used in January 2018. It is now approximately about 9 years old. This issue happens intermittently but the electrical systems seem to be misfiring. Basically, it gives false negatives/positives. (1) The check engine comes on and off all the time even after servicing the vehicle with the mechanic. (2) The passenger seat has front airbags that get activated when someone sits in the seat. Lately, the seatbelt alert goes off while nothing heavy is in the seat. I have to latch the seatbelt to get that alert to stop. (3) The automatic lights that come on when you open the door sometimes don't turn on and the auto lights indicator is on. (4) Lately, when I have turned off the engine and opened the door, the radio won't turn off even after I have removed the keys. Electrical malfunctions could be happening due to the wrong wires being installed or something and may cause the car not to work any longer. I'm not sure but I don't want to encounter issues while I'm driving.

P2646 diagnostic code - rocker arm control solenoid In June 2020, GM issued "Special Coverage Adjustment N192289160 Rocker Arm Oil Control Valve Inoperative" for the coverage of the repair for rocker arm oil control valve, (OCV) for 10 years after the purchase date, or 120,000 miles for the 2014 Malibu and Impala. However, our vehicle had the failure at 122,000 miles. The Special Coverage should be adjusted, or even transitioned to a full recall since the parameters of the initial bulletin are insufficient.

I have owned this car for a little over 3 years and it suddenly started giving me a "Shift to Park" message after I physically put the car in "Park" and turn the car off. The car will not turn off completely because the car does not think that it is in "Park". It is gradually getting worse as time goes on. There were two instances where I thought the car was turned off and when I came back to my vehicle, the car was dead. All within 15 minutes. The car does not shut off after turning it off because it thinks that the car is not in park so the radio, lights, and everything electrical stays on. This issue causes the battery to drain quickly. This issue can easily leave someone stranded with a dead car. I took it to the dealership to get a diagnostic test on it in June 2022 and they could not replicate the issue. I am taking it back again this month (August 2022). I have read a lot of discussion forums about this issue. There was only a recall for the same model for the production years of 2016-2019 I believe. This issue is pretty common among Chevrolet and I think that it's crazy that there is a huge problem with their shifter assembly and they never fixed it!

The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall and informed her that she was responsible for the cost of the repair. The manufacturer was contacted, and they also stated that the vehicle was not under recall and advised to contact the NHTSA. The failure mileage was 214,000.

The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the passenger-side wiring harness needed to be replaced. The contact was unable to specify which wiring harness. The vehicle had not been repaired due to parts any longer being in production. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case regarding the matter. The parts no longer being in production were confirmed. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The Auto Stop would engage and then when I put my foot on the accelerator, it stalled out. I would turn the vehicle off and restart it. I took it to countless mechanics who could not figure out what was causing the problem because the Check Engine light did not come on and no codes were triggered. The problem became worse over time and once the vehicle stalled, it would not immediately restart. I took it to my Chevy Dealer and they can’t figure it out .

2014 Malibu lt with the auto stop issues. My auxiliary batter was replaced and everything was good until my engine light came on can’t even remember exactly but the code was for the rocker arm control valve and oil pressure sensor. I replaced vvt solenoid also the intake and exhaust solenoid. Shortly after that, maybe 2 months or so after was when the auto stop started having issues. After the suto stop is engaged and my foot comes off the brake, it fails to restart after two failed attempts. I’ll manually restart it and it might start right away but sometimes wont start until the 2nd or 3rd try

my vehicle had just fixed by chevy dealership they changed both battery. i drove and pick it up,but its having the same problem it stalled or stops in red lights when i push brake it engaged the autop stop and have to restart the car again. almost got into an accident because i was stucked in the traffic with green lights and im in the middle of the road and my gas pedal wont work/accelerate. i paid 700$ for both battery i need my refund too.

AT TIMES, WHEN I HIT MY BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL STICK IN THE DOWNWARD POSITION AND IT WILL MAKE A GROANING SOUND. I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT AND RETURN THE BRAKE PEDAL TO IT'S ORIGINAL POSITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, WITH PASSENGERS TO ASSURE ME THAT THE BRAKES WERE, IN DEED, MAKING THIS NOISE AND CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK AT TIMES. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. VERY INTERESTED IN WHETHER THERE IS A RECALL, BECAUSE MY HUSBAND'S SILVERADO DOES THE SAME THING AND IT WAS RECALLED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS TIMES AND IS ALWAYS IN A POSITION OF GOING DOWN HILL AND IN A CURVE. IT HAS HAPPENED ANY WHERE FROM 24 MPH TO 40 MPH. CAR HAS 160,000MILES NOW BUT ABOUT EVERY 30,000 MILES IT NEEDS ANOUTHER AXLE HUB.I DROVE PONTIACS FOR YEARS I WORKED IN A PONTIAC GARAGE THE LAST TWO HAD HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS I REPLACED MY SELF. I THINK GM SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THESE CARS FOR I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE REPLACING THESE HUBS

AS MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE REPORTED ON THESE MALIBU'S, ISSUES WITH THE WHEEL BEARINGS GOING OUT IN THEM AT RELATIVELY LOW MILES. I THINK THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BECAUSE THERE ARE A TON OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

MY CAR STARTED MAKING THIS LOUD ROARING NOISE AT 75,000 MILES. IT GOT WORSE THE LONGER I DROVE IT. I ENDED UP GETTING WHEE BEARING REPLACED. LOOKING ONLINE I FOUND OUT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH 2014 MALIBU'S. MOST ARE GOING OUT BEFORE 50,000 MILES OR LOWER. I THINK CHEVROLET NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.

WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY. MY CAR, AS WELL AS OH SO MANY OTHERS, HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE MAGNETIC RING ON THE BEARING ASSEMBLY BREAKING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT CAUSES THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, STABLITRAK AND BRAKE ASSIST TO ALL SHUT DOWN. THESE FAILURES HAPPEN FREQUENTLY AND REPEATEDLY. IT'S ESTIMATED TO BE A $400 FIX...FOR EACH ONE. CONSIDERING NOT EVERY OWNER CAN JUST RUN TO A DEALER ON A MOMENTS NOTICE TO HAVE ONE OR MULTIPLE BEARING REPLACED, IT LEAVES US WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE A CAR WITH ALL OF THESE COMPONENTS DISABLED UNTIL THE REPAIR CAN BE MADE. IT MIGHT NOT BE A PROBLEM IN PLACES LIKE CALIFORNIA OR FLORIDA WHERE THEY DON'T DEAL WITH SNOW AND ICE, BUT HERE IN IOWA, IT'S A SAFETY CONCERN TO NOT HAVE THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE ASSIST AND STABLITRAK FUNCTIONING. THE WORSE PART IS, I CAN FIX ONE AND HAVE OTHERS GO BAD OR FIX THEM AND THEY GO BAD AGAIN DOWN THE ROAD.

I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 10 MONTHS AND WENT TO START IT ON 5/31/18 AND THERE WAS NO HVAC AT ALL. I TRIED TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT BUT TO NO AVAIL. I WENT ONLINE AND RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS IT HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE 2013 BUT NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE. The AutoStop/Start feature malfunctioned while at a busy intersection. The AutoStop engaged but failed to start the engine, once pressure was released from the brake pedal. This has been an issue for about a year now. I have replaced both batteries, both VVT sensors, and the oil pressure sensor in the last year, thinking this would solve the issue. This vehicle has not been inspected by a mechanic, just scanned with a handheld scanner at a parts store, every time there is a check engine indicator light on. There are no dash indicators when this malfunctions, I just have to turn the vehicle completely off, or pump the accelerator in order for it to start.

I HAVE A 2014 CHEVY MALIBU LS. ABOUT A YEAR AGO WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT THE CAR ENGINE SHUT STOPPED WORKING, AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME OFF. I HAD TO GET THE ASSISTANCE OF A POLICE OFFICER TO CONTROL TRAFFIC AWAY FROM MY CAR, UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED AND TOWED IT TO THE SHOP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE AUXILIARY BATTERY WAS BAD, AND HAD IT REPLACED. THE CAR IT WORKED WELL. IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR THE CAR ENGINE BEGAN SHUTTING OFF, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AND SOMETIMES AFTER IT WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT. I HAD THE BATTERIES CHECKED, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE BAD. I LIVE IN AZ, AND THE WEATHER HERE IS VERY HOT, BOTH WERE REPLACED ON AUGUST 27TH AND 28TH, LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AGO, WITH TWO NEW BATTERIES. THE CAR WORKED WELL UP UNTIL THIS EVENING, WHEN IT SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AS I WAS DRIVING INTO MY YARD. ALL THE LIGHTS CAME OFF, AND I CANNOT GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was associated with the battery. However, the battery was not replaced. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle would not properly shift into gear, decelerated independently, and stopped. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, upon moving the gear shifter into drive(D), the vehicle failed to respond. The contact then moved the gear shifter to park(P) however, the vehicle rolled away and struck a tree. The air bags did not deploy. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

GM HAS ADVISED THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS PART WILL BE AVAILABLE, AND HAS NO OTHER RESOLUTION TO PROVIDE EXCEPT TO WAIT AND THAT THEY ARE SORRY FOR INCONVENIENCE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED MEANS IT WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS TESTING IN CT (OR STATE INSPECTIONS IN A LOT OF OTHER STATES). CAR IS NOT USABLE BECAUSE OF THIS, SOME POWER LOSS ISSUES BEING EXPERIENCED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. GM HAS NOT OFFERED ANY RESOLUTION OTHER THAN $2500 OFF A NEW GM VEHICLE. Automatic Start/Stop feature is faulty! When it activates, it prevents the engine from restarting for several minutes. This puts myself and others in my car at a major risk of getting in an accident. I have so far been lucky and avoided any accidents. Several thousand has ben spent to try and fix the issue, with no luck.

THE ENGINE VARIABLE TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE IS MALFUNCTIONING AS I HAVE SEEN WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS ON THE INTERNET. GM IS NO LONGER MAKING THE PART. AFTER PICKING UP MY VEHICLE, I RECEIVED A DIAGNOSTIC REPORT FROM ONSTAR STATING THAT MY VEHICLE STILL HAD BRAKE AND ABS PROBLEMS. I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP. TWO DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH MY BRAKES WENT OUT COMPLETELY OUT AND I CRASHED INTO A VAN.

BRAKES RUMBLED AND FELT LIKE THEY WERE CATCHING INSTEAD OF GOING DOWN SMOOTHLY UPON PICKING UP REPAIRED VEHICLE. THERE IS A SENSOR THAT READS A "SPEED RING" ON THE REAR OF THE WHEEL HUBS. IT SEEMS CHEVY CARS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE THIS RING CRACK AND SECTIONS BREAK OFF. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE SENSOR CAN NO LONGER READ IT AND YOUR STABILITY CONTROL AND ABS SYSTEMS WILL IMMEDIATELY STOP WORKING. THE ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HUB. NOT ONLY IS THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BUT A CONSIDERABLE DESIGN FLAW. YOU SHOULD ONLY EVER HAVE TO REPLACE A HUB IF THE BEARING WEAR OUT BECAUSE IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THE OTHER REAR HUB ON MY CAR IS SHOWING CRACKS IN THIS RING AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. CHEVY IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. The headlights burn out frequently the air conditioner does not work the ignition had to be replaced there's always a code of p0171 the start/stop feature does not work the brakes make the car shake. When does stuff takes place I have to pull the vehicle over cousin me to put others in danger by being on the shoulder of the road broke down. Yes the car is available for inspection. The radio randomly turns on and off therefore the backup camera does not work as it should why this vehicle has not been recalled is beyond me.

6 months ago our car’s auto stop/start feature started to malfunction. The car will stall and sputter on the start after coming to a stop. This is very dangerous! On multiple occasions, the car would not accelerate through a turn on a light stalling out in the intersection. we have also been nearly rear-ended at red lights because the vehicle will not accelerate on a green light. This issue is well discussed on the Internet with many owners reporting the same issue. Chevrolet should be held accountable for this repair. This is not an isolated event with my vehicle.

WHEN START STOP WAS ENGAGED AT LIGHT THE CAR SHUT OFF EVERYTHING ON THE DASH AND RADIO WENT BLANK. IT AUTO STARTED AND AC WAS NO LONGER WORKING. AFTERWARDS I SMELLED A SLIGHT BURNING SCENT (IN LOUISIANA TRAFFIC, I WAS UNSURE IT WAS ME) BUT CAR RAN FINE. WHEN START STOP ENGAGED THERE WAS A LONGER THAN NORMAL PAUSE BEFORE WOULD AUTO START WOULD ENGAGE. IT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO CRANK ON OCCASION FOR A FEW KEY TURNS. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TRUNK WOULD MYSTERIOUSLY POP OPEN. STARTED DISPLAYING TWO KEY FOBS PROGRAMMED, ABS STABLE TRACK, REDUCED ENGINE POWER, LOW BATTERY AND ANOTHER THING I CAN'T REMEMBER AT START UP. I CHANGED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WITH NEW ONES AND THE NEXT DAY THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLICKERED AS WELL AS HEAD LIGHTS. AND WHEN I WAS TO TAKE IT IN TO DEALERSHIP IT HAD COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE ENGINE FUSE BLOCK AND REPLACED IT. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON AND HAS A PAUSE BEFORE IT START. WILL NOT SEND DIAGNOSTICS TO MY CHEVY APP. REMOTE START IS NOT WORKING WITH ENG LIGHT ON. I TOLD THEM I THOUGHT IS WAS BATTERY CONTROL MODULE BUT HE INSISTED THAT IT WAS JUST THE ENGINE FUSE BLOCK. I CANNOT EXPLAIN THE ANXIETY. AND HAVE TOLD MY FAMILY THAT IF I DIE IN THAT CAR TO SUE GM. THERE SHOULD BE NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS CAR AT 6 YEARS OLD. 53000 MILES AND IS DRIVEN LESS THAN 50 MILES A WEEK.

Received vehicle at roughly 181,000 miles. Operated fine for about 5,000 miles and then began to show problems. In most cases when pressing down hard on the accelerator pedal, transmission drops into a lower gear and revs up to 5k rpm, cancelling cruise control, and staying there until accelerator is relieved. This makes accelerating more difficult since too much pressure on the accelerator pedal causes the car to get stuck at 5k rpm and stay at the same speed it is already at. This makes passing cars more dangerous as the car gets stuck at 5k rpm and can't pass the other vehicle, increasing the risk of a head on collision. Service engine and ABS lights are on as well as a service Stabilitrak notification in the driver information center. In addition, the outside temperature thermometer is faulty and shows much lower temperatures, such as -14 degrees during an 80 degree day. Vehicle is up to maintenance as far as my knowledge goes. Car has been previously junked twice and has a rebuilt title. There are no fluid leaks, the engine works well when the problem is not encountered, but it gets stuck at 5k rpm under hard acceleration more than it doesn't.

THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW, ONCE FOR MY WIFE AND THE SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING. BOTH INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE DISPLAY SHOWED REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND THE VEHICLE DE-RATED AND SLOWED AUTOMATICALLY ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISPLAYED AND AFTER CONNECTING A CODE READER TO THE OBD AND CODE P2138 WAS LOGGED WHICH IS POTENTIALLY A FAULTY THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR/ FOOT GAS PEDAL. I REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR CLEARED THE STORED CODE AND A COUPLE WEEKS LATER THE VEHICLE AGAIN WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND DE-RATED ON HIGHWAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SAME CODE P2138 WAS LOGGED INDICATING VOLTAGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN APP SENSOR 1 AND APP SENSOR 2 OF THE THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH ON LINE I FOUND THAT A GM SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED FOR POTENTIAL MOISTURE INTRUSION OF THE CONNECTORS FROM THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR TO THE ECM. (SEE ATTACHED) IT SEEMS LIKE MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING MOISTURE IN THE CONNECTORS AS BOTH INCIDENTS HAPPENED WITHIN MINUTES OF TAKING THE VEHICLE THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH. IN MY OPINION THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR THIS MODEL VEHICLE TO DE-RATE AND SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH CARS FOLLOWING BEHIND AND HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE BY GM AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ISSUED.

THE CAR RPM WILL GET STUCK AROUND 3000 IF I'M CRUISING AND PRESS THE BRAKES TO DECELERATE WHICH HAS CAUSED ME SEVERAL TIME TO HAVE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF OFF THE ROAD SO THAT I DON'T HIT ANYTHING. The automatic start and stop function does not work properly. When the car comes to a stop and auto stops, the vehicle shuts off and does not power up when you hit the gas. My safety is put at risk due to the car shutting off and the possibility of someone hitting me. The vehicle has been inspected countless times. I was told it was an electrical issue. Then told it was the battery. Brand new battery and issue isn’t fixed. The car cut off once and all the lights came on. Now no lights comes on it just cuts off.

My car is throwing a rocker arm valve code but chevy is saying its not covered under the NHTSA program that was passed. Its a 2014 chevy malibu 2.5 L with 93000 miles on it. It causes the auto stop to malfunction and the car will completely shut down when stopped. It will not restart at all. Have been almost hit 3 times at major intersections.

WE PAID TO GET THE DIAGNOSIS DONE AND SAID WE NEED THE OIL CONTROL VALVE AND PART NUMBER 12633613. NO ONE HAS IT AND EVERYONE IS LOOKING FOR THE SAME PART. THERE IS AN ISSUE THERE AND GM SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. WE'RE STILL PAYING FOR THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE PROBLEM. TURNS OUT THE CODE IS P0014 A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) FOR "CAMSHAFT POSITION B - TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE (BANK 1)". I WAS INFORMED ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2019 AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER BUT I NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE PART AND ONCE THE PART CAME IN AND TO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. ALSO, I WOULD BE INFORMED AND THEN I WOULD COME IN AND PAY THE LABOR FEES. I'VE CALLED CHEVROLET NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE PART IS STILL ON BACK ORDER NATIONWIDE WITH NO ESTIMATED TIMEFRAME OF WHEN THE PART WILL COME IN. THEY STATED IT COULD BE ABOUT 1 MONTH. WITHIN THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF, MY 2014 CHEVROLET MALIBU HAS HAD THE ABS AND STABILTRAK SERVICES LIGHTS COME ON TWICE. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT 31,500 MILES. MID-FEBRUARY, I WAS DRIVING 25 MPH DOWN A SIDE STREET TO WORK, AND THE LIGHTS JUST POPPED ON., I TOOK MY CAR INTO A CHEVROLET DEALER TO HAVE THE LIGHTS LOOKED AT, AND WAS TOLD THE ABS SENSOR READS A STRIP ON THE WHEEL BEARING HUB AND THAT STRIP WAS CHIPPED OFF. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HUB WHICH IS COSTLY. IT IS NOW THE BEGINNING OF APRIL, AND THE LIGHT JUST CAME BACK ON. THE ABS LIGHT SHOWED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER WHEN I STARTED MY CAR TO LEAVE FOR WORK ON A MONDAY MORNING SO I TOOK MY CAR TO GREEN CHEVROLET IN DERIDDER LA. THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE CAR AND SAID THE SENSOR WAS BAD SO THEY ORDERED ANOTHER. AFTER REPLACING IT THE LIGHT DID NOT GO OFF SO THEY SCHEDULED ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO CHECK INTO THE PROBLEM AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A SENSOR AND WOULD BE CLOSE TO $ 400 TO REPLACE IT. I PAID $200 THE FIRST TIME. SO I CALLED GM TO ASK ABOUT THE RECALL THAT WAS IN PLACE ON THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AS MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT WHILE THE RECALL WAS ACTIVE, IT DID NOT INCLUDE MY CAR BECAUSE IT CAME FROM A DIFFERENT PLANT. SO GM WORKED WITH THE REPAIR SHOP TO LOWER THE COST FOR THE SECOND REPAIR. I PAID $115. THAT AS IN FEBRUARY 2017. THE MECHANIC AT THE SERVICE CENTER SAID THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PART BEING REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE RECALLED. IN APRIL 2017 I WAS ON MY WAY TO MISSOURI FOR A FUNERAL AND MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I CALLED THE SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD TO BRING MY CAR IN WHEN I RETURNED HOME. I CALLED GM AGAIN TO COMPLAIN THAT IT WAS ON AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR BACK INTO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM BUT A DIFFERENT WHEEL. AGAIN THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE PART NEEDED TO BE RECALLED. SO NOW I HAVE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPLACED AND PAY MORE MONEY. This has happened at stop signs, stop lights, intersections, hard breaks, etc. There are no warning lights or system failed/malfunction warnings. This has been inspected multiple times with software updates, changing batteries, changing fuses, etc.

I bought the car back in 2022 and since then the stop/start started malfunctioning. At first it would stop then be hesitant to start back up then 6 months later it completely would stall at lights and stop signs. When I stop my auto stop kicks in and when I take my foot off the brake my car rolls up a little and ends up dying. I have to turn it off and start it up giving it gas to get it going. There have been a couple instances when making a left turn I have almost gotten hit. I am no longer comfortable driving my car. There are several people posting about it online but no reason or fix for it as far as I know of. I have called the dealer and if course they want me to bring it in but I have no money for someone to go on a wild goose chase with my car. I think this should be something Chevrolet needs to figure out.

AFTER SEARCHING FOR A REPLACEMENT PART, I KEEP GETTING TOLD THAT THIS MAKE/MODEL CONSISTENTLY HAS THIS PROBLEM. The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that upon driving four miles at approximately 35 MPH, the engine overheated. The message "Engine Overheating" was displayed. The temperature gauge increased to Hot. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact added water to the vehicle, but the water drained out. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the heater coil had failed. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 105,670.

This is now the THIRD time this has happened, and GM doesn't seem to care, because when my mechanic "fixed" my auto stop problem, it was because GM themselves got the code to "fix" my car. When the auto stop feature turns on, the car totally stops, and doesn't turn the engine back on for 20 minutes. I had complained about this before, and the mechanic did NOT fix it, so I am complaining AGAIN! I was in the middle of the street when it stalled! The steering wheel and brake locks up, and it's impossible for the engine to turn on. It revs, but doesn't work. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

I have a 2014 Malibu with 87,450 miles. It has worked perfectly up until 6 months ago. It started stalling in traffic intersections and at stop signs, which is a dangerous safety issue. The Auto Stop would engage and then when I put my foot on the accelerator, it stalled out. I would turn the vehicle off and restart it. I took it to countless mechanics who could not figure out what was causing the problem because the Check Engine light did not come on and no codes were triggered. The problem became worse over time and once the vehicle stalled, it would not immediately restart. I took it to my Chevy Dealer and they were baffled as well. They uploaded new software which included the Auto Stop feature, but it continued to stall. They replaced the front battery and checked the one in the trunk. It still stalled. The Dealer said that since the Check Engine light did not come on, they were shooting in the dark. I asked them to disconnect the Auto Stop function, but they said that they couldn't. Unlike other models, there was no disconnection method. I have looked at many on-line chats on the 2014 Chevy Malibu and this defect in the Auto Stop function seems pretty prevalent. No one has come up with a workable solution. I filed a Notice of Claim with Chevrolet corporate and asked them to provide a fix. Does anyone have any ideas of either how to fix the Auto Stop or to disable it? Right now I am shifting into neutral at all traffic signals and stop signs, so that the Auto Stop function does not engage, but that seems like a poor fix to the problem.

THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH AP2646 CODE. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO REPAIR, AND THE CODE REMAINING I ATTEMPTED TO FIND PART 12633613. UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PART I BROUGHT IT IN TO A GARAGE. THEY REPLACED THE SAME PART I HAD ALREADY REPLACED, AND STILL THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED. THEY WERE ALSO UNABLE TO LOCATE THE REFERENCED PART ONLINE OR THROUGH A DEALERSHIP (MANGINO CHEVROLET). I CONTACTED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND GM, THE PARTY IS DISCONTINUED AND BACK ORDERED AT PARTS STORES AND DEALERSHIPS. WITHOUT THIS PART, THE CAR CAN NOT BE INSPECTED AND BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE, AND S LEGAL ISSUE OF CONTINUED TO OPERATE ON THE ROAD (IN NY AND ELSEWHERE I IMAGINE). THE PART IS FAULTY ON MANY CARS IF THE BACK ORDER IS AN ACCURATE INDICATION. ALTHOUGH IT DOES NOT PREVENT SAFE OPERATION OF THE CAR, THE CAR CAN NOT BE INSPECTED OVERALL FOR SAFETY UNTIL THE ENGINE LIGHT IS FIXED.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power while coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions. The dealer replaced the auxiliary battery and the timing intake bracket arm; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

I BOUGHT THE NEW MALIBU WITH ONLY 3 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE GAS TANK WAS FILLED UP AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE GAS GAUGE SHOWS IT'S ONLY 7/8 FILLED. I went to put my seat belt on, car was parked, (driver side front) and the cable that holds it the floor snapped in half. Can not use seat belt until I get it replaced. Called dealership and I knew car was out of warranty, but this is a safety issue. Said nothing they could do. The belt itself is ok, it's the cable on floor that broke in half. WHILE DRIVING APPX 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY A "SERVICE STABILTRACK, REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE" MESSAGE CAME ON. IMMEDIATELY THE CAR BEGAN A RAPID DECELERATION UNTIL IT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. LUCKILY WE WERE BARELY ABLE TO SAFELY MOVE ACROSS 3 LANES OF 70 MPH TRAFFIC & ONTO THE SHOULDER WHERE WE BECAME STRANDED. AFTER WAITING ABOUT 10 MIN WE WERE ABLE TO START THE CAR AND SLOWLY MAKE IT ABOUT A MILE TO A FREEWAY EXIT WHERE THE SAME EVENT REPEATED ITSELF EXCEPT THIS TIME THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. A CHEVY DEALER HAD CLAIMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. I THEN GOT OUT OF ANY ONCOMING TRAFFICS WAY, PULLED OVER, AND CALLED 911. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. THE SEAT BELT NEVER LOCKED UP TO PROTECT ME AND THE AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. THE WELDS ON THE FRONT CROSS-BAR AND THE REAR CROSS BAR ARE SEPARATED BETWEEN THE SEAT AND LOWER ADJUSTMENT FRAME, THIS CAUSE THE DRIVERS SEAT TO LEAN TOWARD THE CENTER CONSOLE AND REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IN TURN MAKES THE SEAT TOGGLE BACK AND FORTH. UPON FIRST EXAMINATION I THOUGHT THE WELDS HAD BROKEN, BUT ON CLOSER EXAMINATION IT APPEARS THAT THE WELD DID NOT PENETRATE THE METAL FAR ENOUGH AS THE WELD AND BAR WERE BOTH INTACT, EXCEPT FOR SCARING ON THE TUBING. I HAVE A 2014 MALIBU THAT HAS AROUND 86000 AND AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN STARTED JERKING AND MY POWER LOCKS WERE GOING UP AND DOWN CONTINUOUSLY ALONG WITH A MESSAGE THAT SAYS "SERVICE POWER STEERING, DRIVE WITH CARE." AFTER I CAME TO A STOP, PULLED OVER TO TUN OFF THE IGNITION, MY RADIO WAS STILL ON EVEN AFTER I OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE KEYS OUT OF THE INGNITION. DESCENDING DOWN THE SAME HILL I FELT THE VEHICLE SPEED INCREASE WHILE I HAD THE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSED DOWN. IT SEEMS THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT HELPING THE VEHICLE SLOW DOWN AT TIMES.. I am filing a complaint regarding a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu that I purchased from a dealership on November 22, 2024. The vehicle was advertised as being in “excellent condition” at the dealership’s site. During the test drive, I raised concerns about potential transmission issues, but the dealership assured me that the vehicle was “clean” and safe to drive. Unfortunately, this assurance turned out to be false, as the vehicle has since displayed significant mechanical failures, including overheating issues, that pose serious safety risks. Within a week of purchase, the vehicle broke down twice: first on November 29, while driving to work, and again on November 30, while on I-10 Katy freeway. The second breakdown created a life-threatening situation as the vehicle suddenly lost power in traffic. I incurred towing costs of $125 to return the vehicle to the dealership. After an attempted repair, the vehicle was returned to me on December 5, 2024. However, it broke down again on December 8, 2024, requiring another tow. Since that time, the vehicle has remained at the dealership, yet no adequate resolution has been provided. Additionally, I have since discovered that the vehicle has persistent overheating issues that were not disclosed at the time of sale. These overheating problems pose a serious safety risk as they could result in a fire or explosion, endangering my life and the lives of others on the road. The dealership’s negligence in addressing these critical safety concerns demonstrates a disregard for consumer safety. I believe the dealership knowingly sold me a defective vehicle with significant mechanical issues that were either hidden or misrepresented. The sudden and repeated breakdowns, particularly in hazardous driving conditions, and the risk of fire or explosion due to overheating, warrant immediate attention from the NHTSA.

It started off with just a little jerking when I would be in stop and go traffic then it progressed to whenever I was driving below 35mph, the car would completely cut off and the doors would unlock. The check engine light came on and I took it to be repaired. They stated there was a hole in my exhaust which a GM service employee repaired. Two days later the check engine light came on again and this time they stated I needed a new transmission. So I took it to a transmission company, who installed a rebuilt transmission. A few days after getting my car back, the same issue happened again. The transmission company did a diagnostic and stated it wasn't the transmission so I took it back to a GM service place and they stated it was my manifold. I paid for the repairs and the vehicle worked fine until the beginning of April 2022. Now the vehicle is doing the exact same thing expect this time the doors are not unlocking when the car cuts off. A new thing has started where the car shakes when I sit with my foot on the break for too long such as at a traffic light, once I take my foot off the break to accelerate it will jerk or turn completely off. Today, I was trying to do a U-turn and the car just stopped working almost like it was in neutral then the steering wheel locked up.

ON 7/5/20 THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP MOUNTED ON THE ENGINE BROKE LOSE, DROPPED INTO THE ENGINE AND TORE APART THE ENGINE. WAS TOWED AND FIXED BY CLOSEST GM DEALERSHIP (DEERY BROTHERS, WEST BURLINGTON, IA). THERE IS A RECALL FOR A BAD WELD ON THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FOR 2016-2018 MALIBU'S RESULTING IN THE EXACT ISSUE I HAD ON MY 2014. THE DEALERSHIP SAID GM, CHEVROLET AND THE DEALERSHIP (WHICH IS A GM CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED IN 2018) SAID THEY ALL BARED NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE. I PAID $3,128 FOR THE REPAIR ON 7/17/20. TWO DAYS AFTER BRINGING MY CAR HOME, THERE IS AN OIL LEAK THAT WAS NEVER THERE BEFORE. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS A HOLE IN THE OIL PAN, AND AGAIN IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR IN FULL TO BE FIXED. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET ON 7/16/20 SAYING THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY VIN # FOR AN OIL PRESSURE VALVE. INCORRECT OIL PRESSURE COULD HAVE CAUSED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP TO EXPLODE CAUSING THE ISSUE ON 7/9/20. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT BETWEEN THE TWO RECALLS ISSUED BY CHEVROLET FOR MY CAR MODEL I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE REPAIRS ON A CAR THAT WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WITH A WARRANTY TWO YEARS PRIOR, NOT TO MENTION I'VE HAD ALL REGULAR SERVICES DONE IN A TIMELY MATTER AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP, THAT HAS UNDER 90,000 MILES AND IS ONLY SIX YEARS OLD. MY WINDSHIELD AND BACK WINDOW WAS FOGGING ON THE INSIDE DURING THE FALL AND FROSTING ON THE INSIDE DURING THE WINTER. MY CARPETS FELT LIKE A SPONGE. IT TURNED OUT THERE WERE 6" OF STANDING WATER UNDER MY FLOORBOARDS ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR (FRONT AND BACK). THE MECHANIC TRACED THIS BACK TO AN OPENING BETWEEN TWO PANELS, JUST BELOW THE WINDSHIELD, THAT WERE NEVER SEALED. HE SAID I WAS LUCKY. IF THE WATER GOT ANY HIGHER, IT COULD HAVE INTERFERED WITH THE ELECTRICAL AND AIRBAG SYSTEM. I ALSO LUCKED OUT IN THAT THERE WAS NO MOLD GROWTH. MY CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW ONLY FIVE YEARS PRIOR AND HAD NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. REPAIR REQUIRED THE REMOVAL OF MY WINDSHIELD, A SIDE PANEL ON THE CAR, MY DRIVER SEAT, AND THE TEARING UP OF MY CARPETS.

THE VEHICLE IS REGULARLY REQUIRING A JUMP START DUE TO A LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE. WHILE OPERATING MY CAR WHENEVER I COME TO A STOP THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE ACTIVATES AND MY ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. AS I RELEASE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND THE ENGINE RESTARTS ALL POWER TO MY VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY LOST TEMPORARILY, INCLUDING THE POWER TO MY STEERING WHEEL WHICH INSTANTLY LOCKS UP. IT'S BEEN VERY SCARY AND CONCERNING TO SAY THE VERY LEAST. I'VE ALSO LOST POWER TO OTHER SYSTEMS ON MY CAR LIKE THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM BEING UNRESPONSIVE ENTIRELY, NOT BEING ABLE TO ADJUST IT AT ALL. THE CLIMATE CONTROL SECTION UNDERNEATH THE RADIO CONTROLS WERE COMPLETELY BLACKED OUT AND NON-FUNCTIONING. THERE WAS NO BUTTONS ILLUMINATED NOR WERE THE AMBIENT LIGHTING AROUND IT ILLUMINATED. I TRIED RESTARTING MY VEHICLE AND THAT DIDN'T WORK. THE CLIMATE CONTROL EVENTUALLY WAS FUNCTIONING AGAIN SHORTLY AFTER. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, I REGULARLY GET AN ALERT FROM THE INFORMATION SCREEN IN BETWEEN THE GAUGES STATING SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF "SERVICE STABILITRAK". EVERY TIME THE MESSAGE APPEARS I FEEL THAT MY ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION LOSES A BIT OF IT'S SENSE OF FUNCTIONALITY. MY CAR JERKS REGULARLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RADLEY CHEVROLET (3670 JEFFERSON DAVIS HWY, FREDERICKSBURG, VA 22408) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HUB BEARING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED A MONTH LATER. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WORKED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS SHIFTING INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO RADLEY CHEVROLET WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE REASON FOR THIS COMPLAINT IS BECAUSE I BELIEVE CHEVROLET HAS DEFECTIVE ABS SENSOR EMBEDDED IN THE WHEEL HUB OF THIS VEHICLE. WE PURCHASED TWO OF THESE CHEVROLET MALIBU CARS A COUPLE MONTHS APART AND HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH EACH. ONE OF OUR VEHICLES WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (VIN [XXX]) AND REPAIRS COME AT A COST OF $450.00 PLUS PER OCCURRENCE WITH UNDER 65 THOUSAND MILES. WE HAVE SUFFERED THE SAME FAILURE TWICE WITH THE OUT OF WARRANTY VEHICLE LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AND 3 THOUSAND MILES APART. AFTER DOING MINIMAL RESEARCH AND COMMENTS MADE BY THE MECHANIC AT OUR SMALL DEALER I BELIEVE THIS IS A MUCH LARGER PROBLEM THAN A COINCIDENCE. PEOPLE PURCHASE THESE VEHICLES WITH THE ABS - TRACTION CONTROL AND EXPECT THEM TO FUNCTION PROPERLY WITHOUT EXPENSIVE REPAIRS AS REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER. AS OF TODAY THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS DEFECT. I HAVE OPENED A SERVICE REQUEST WITH GM [XXX] THIS VEHICLE HAD A SENSOR FAILURE WHICH IS EMBEDDED IN THE HUB ASSEMBLY. THE SENSOR FAILURE DISABLES THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE. THE ENTIRE HUB ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS FAILURE HAPPENED WITHIN THE CHEVROLET BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY PERIOD CONSEQUENTLY IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. BRAKING BEFORE POTENTIAL COLLISION, ESPECIALLY SMOOTH BRAKING, REVEALS THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT RETRACTOR HAS AN INHERENTLY AND SUBSTANTIALLY UNSAFE DESIGN. *TR THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT HAS DELAYED AND INCONSISTENT LOCKING, OFTEN NOT LOCKING IN BRAKING OR LOCKING LATE. EVEN WHEN IT DOES LOCK EARLIER, IT ALLOWS TOO MUCH TRAVEL, I.E. 1/3 DISTANCE TO WHEEL. UNDER MODERATE BRAKING, BEFORE ENOUGH DECELERATION OCCURS TO LOCK THE BELT, THE DRIVER CAN TRAVEL VERY FAR FORWARD AND IT'S HARD TO HOLD ONESELF BACK. EVEN WHEN READY FOR THAT, THE FORCE NEEDED IS A DISTRACTION FROM WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE ROAD AND MAKES IT MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER. ALSO, EXPERTS HAVE SAID THAT BEING TENSE DURING A COLLISION MAKES INJURIES WORSE OR MORE LIKELY. THE COMPLAINANT HAS TESTED THIS MANY TIMES UNDER STRAIGHT BRAKING ON 25-45 MPH ROADS WITH THE SEAT AS FAR BACK AS IS DRIVABLE AND THE WHEEL AS FAR AWAY AS PRACTICAL FOR A SLIGHTLY BELOW AVERAGE SIZE GUY. UNDER MODERATE BRAKING, THE BELT LOCKED WITH MY HEAD 1 INCH FROM THE WHEEL. IF A COLLISION FOLLOWED, MY HEAD WOULD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE AIR BAG WOULD DEPLOY AT NEARLY POINT-BLANK RANGE TO HEAD AND CHEST. THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT HAS AN ALTERNATE MODE ACTIVATED BY PULLING THE BELT ALL THE WAY OUT, WHICH ACTIVATES A RETRACT-ONLY RATCHET SO IT WILL HOLD THE PASSENGER CLOSE TO THE SEAT UNTIL RELEASED. THE DRIVER'S BELT DOES NOT HAVE THAT FEATURE. SUGGEST CRASH TESTING WITH BRAKING FROM 70 TO 40 MPH JUST PRIOR TO COLLISION RATHER THAN CRUISING INTO THE BARRIER AT STEADY 40. WITH THE 2014 MALIBU'S RESTRAINTS, THE DUMMY COULD EASILY BE 1/3 TO FULLY AGAINST THE WHEEL AT MOMENT OF COLLISION. THE PERSON SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT DOES NOT FEEL AT ALL SAFE WHILE DRIVING WITH THIS DEFECT IN THE PRIMARY DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM.
