I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE DODGE/CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. I WAS DRIVING WHEN I HEARD A TICKING COMING FROM THE ENGINE, I USED MY CELLPHONE TO CALL MY MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT IT WAS PROBABLY MY TIMING CHAIN BUT THAT IF IT'S JUST TICKING IT'S NOT IMMINENT DANGER OF BREAKING. I ARRIVED TO WORK AND UPON LEAVING WORK, I WENT TO START THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. IT MADE A GRINDING SOUND, I SAW SMOKE COME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK COMPANY AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. MY MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN AND WOULD COST $6000.00 TO REPLACE IT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME ( 2 TOWING FEES AT THIS POINT AT $90.00 EACH). I CALLED A MECHANIC THAT SPECIALIZES IN INTREPID/CONCORDE REPAIRS AND HE ADVISED THAT I SHOULD TOW THE CAR TO HIM AS IT MIGHT NOT BE COMPLETELY BLOWN. ANOTHER TOWING FEE ($90.00) AND ANOTHER MECHANICS OPINION, YES THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN AND THIS MECHANIC STATED THE REASON FOR FAILURE WAS OIL SLUDGE. I ASKED WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THAT FROM HAPPENING AND HE STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO, IT'S A KNOWN DEFECT IN THAT PARTICULAR ENGINE AND THAT IF I WERE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, IT WAS HIS ADVICE TO NOT PUT A 2.7L ENGINE BACK IN, BUT RATHER A 3.2 OR 3.5L ENGINE IN AS THEY DID NOT HAVE THE DEFECT OF THE 2.7L. I NOW HAVE A PAPER WEIGHT IN MY DRIVEWAY AS I DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER CAR AND NOW HAVE A CAR PAYMENT TO A CAR THAT I DON'T EVEN REALLY LIKE MUCH. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY I WAS SOLD A VEHICLE WITH A KNOWN ENGINE DEFECT AND WHY CHRYSLER WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR

HELLO, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION WITH MY YEAR 2000 CHRYSLER CONCORDE LX. I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT AND I PURCHASED THIS CAR ROUGHLY A YEAR AND A HALF AGO WITH 41,000 MILES ON IT. THE CARFAX VEHICLE REPORT STATED THAT THE CAR HAD PERFECT ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND IT WAS OWNED BY ONE FEMALE OWNER OVER THE COURSE OF ITS LIFE. AFTER OWNING THE CAR I NOW HAVE ABOUT 65,000 MILES ON THIS CAR, WITH PERFECT ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. I AM EXPERIENCING THE SYMPTOMS OF THE ENGINE SLUDGE PROBLEM THAT THESE 2.7 LITER ENGINES EXPERIENCE. MY RPMS ARE DROPPING TO LOW REVS AT IDLE, AND MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT THE ENGINE WILL EVENTUALLY SEIZE WHILE DRIVING. AT THIS POINT I NO LONGER DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND LEAVE IT STATIONARY IN MY PARENTS GARAGE. TO REPLACE THESE ENGINES THEY COST AROUND 4,000 - 10,000 DOLLARS. THAT IS MORE THAN THE PRICE OF THE VEHICLE ITSELF. THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE DESIGN, AND ANY QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH CAN SHOW THIS. THERE ARE HUNDREDS UPON THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE IN PUBLIC FORUMS AND ENGINE ORIENTED WEBSITES. I ONLY HOPE THAT THIS ORGANIZATION INVESTIGATES THIS SITUATION, AND TAKES IT SERIOUSLY. *TR

THE MOTOR ON A MY 2.7L 2000 CHRYSLER CONTOUR ROD BEARINGS WENT OUT RUINING THE MOTOR. THE REPAIR WOULD BE 3,000. I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS A KNOWN INCIDENT WITH THESE MOTORS THAT CHRYSLER USES IN THIS MODEL. THE MOTOR WENT OUT ON A CAMPING TRIP 180 MILES AWAY FROM HOME. BACKING OUT OF OUR GARAGE (STRAIGHT WITHOUT TURNING) AT HOME; THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY DIDN'T RESPOND TO ANY ACTION FROM DRIVER (MY WIFE) AFTER A "SNAPPING SOUND" WAS HEARD. NO PRIOR ACCIDENT OR KNOWN DAMAGE TO TRIGGER THIS. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY OR OTHER BUSY ARTERY, THE OUTCOME MIGHT HAVE BEEN WITH PERSONAL AND/OR MATERIAL CONSEQUENCES. MY WIFE AND SON WERE PARKING THE VEHICLE WHEN A CREAK FOLLOWED BY A LOUD POPPING NOISE OCCURED. AT THAT POINT, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STEERED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DODGE DEALER SHIP IN FRISCO, TX FOR ANALYSIS. SUBSEQUENT REPORT FROM THE DEALERSHIP WAS THAT BOTH PINS HOLDING THE TIE-ROD ENDS TO THE RACK AND PINION STEERING BOX HAD SHEARED. IN ADDITION, THE RACK AND PINION STEERING BOX HAD A CRACK. DON'T KNOW IF THE PINS SHEARED FIRST OR THE CRACK IN THE BOX CAME FIRST. THE STEERING WHEEL INSIDE THE CAR COULD BE ROTATED 360 DEG. IN EITHER DIRECTION WITH NO ACCOMPANING ACTION OF THE TIRES ON THE GROUND. ABSOLUTLY NO STEERING CONTROL WHATSOEVER! THIS WAS A TOTAL COLLOSAL MANUFACTUREING DEFECT IN THE STEERING THAT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE (CHECK THE WEBSITE COMPLAINT # 10053466) IN TUCSAN, AZ AROUND JANUARY OF 2004. MY RACK & PINION STEERING BOX WAS REPLACED AT 35K MILES BY THIS SAME DEALERSHIP WHILE STILL UNDER WARRENTY DUE TO A MALFUNCTION WHILE STEERING THE CAR. I'M JUST GREATFUL THAT MY WIFE AND SON WERE NOT OUT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS MAJOR FAILURE OCCURED. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IF THIS IS NOT FIXED! THE LIFTS ON THE HOOD AND TRUNK HAVE BOTH BEEN REPLACED BECAUSE OF FALLING. THE DOOR AND HEADLIGHT TRIM IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAS PULLED COMPLETELY OFF THE DOORS AND HEADLIGHTS BECAUSE OF SHRINKAGE, THEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MILES AN HOUR THE HOOD MOLDING CAME FLYING OFF AND WENT OVER THE TOP OF THE CAR AND LANDED IN THE DITCH. THESE ARE DEFECTS WHICH I FEEL CHRYSLER SHOULD REPLACE. *TR

THE HYDRAULIC MECHANISM'S THAT HOLD UP THE TRUNK AND THE HOODS ON CHRYSLER CONCORDS AND OTHER MODELS HAVE A TENDENCY TO ALLOW THE HOOD OR TRUNK TO CLOSE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON MY 2000 CONCORD AND MY MOTHER'S CONCORD ALSO. IT IS NOT A MATTER OR EXCESS WEAR BECAUSE THERE ARE ONLY 50, 000 MILES ON MY CAR THE HOOD HAS ONLY BEEN OPENED ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES GIVE OR TAKE A FEW. THE EVENT THAT PROMPTED ME TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT LEFT A HUGE WELT ON MY HEAD, ALMOST KNOCKED ME UNCONSCIOUS IN A STORE PARKING LOT, AND MADE IT NECESSARY FOR ME TO SEEK MEDICAL ADVISE FROM THE BCBS HOTLINE. THE TRUNK OF MY CAR CLOSED SUDDENLY WHILE I WAS MOVING MY HEAD TOWARD IT TO PUT GROCERIES IN THE TRUCK. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE HOOD SLAM SHUT ON ME BUT AT THE TIME I WAS NOT UNDER IT. THE HOOD AND TRUNK HAVE CONSIDERABLE WEIGHT AND IF THEY CATCH SOMEONE WITH THE FULL FORCE OF THEIR FALL I HAVE NO DOUBT IT COULD BE FATAL. THE FAILURE IS MORE PREVALENT IN COLD WEATHER. IN FACT, MY TRUNK AND HOOD WILL NOT STAY UP ON THEIR OWN IN COLD WEATHER AND THIS IS SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. THE INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED TO ME HAPPENED IN WARM WEATHER HOWEVER. I AM SURPRISED THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A RECALL ON THESE PARTS. AS I STATED EARLIER I HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON MORE THAN ONE CHRYSLER. WE WERE TRAVELING ABOUT 40 MPH ON THE FRONT BEACH ROAD IN PANAMA CITY, FL, DURING CHRISTMAS 06 THE PLASTIC PIECE BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND THE HOOD FLEW OFF AND HIT OUR WINDSHIELD VERY HARD AND FLEW OVER OUR CAR. IT WAS DARK AND WE WERE NOT SURE WHAT HIT OUR WINDSHIELD UNTIL THE MORNING AND WE SAW THAT LONG PIECE WAS MISSING FROM OUR CAR. WE WENT AND TRIED TO FIND THE PIECE THAT FLEW OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT COULD NOT FIND IT. WE ARE NOT SURE HOW MUCH THIS PIECE WILL COST US, BUT I FEEL FOR IT TO FLY OFF AND HIT OUR WINDSHIELD WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND NOT SURE IF IT HIT ANYONE BEHIND US. DT: CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE PLASTIC TRIM BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND HOOD BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE VIBRATION STARTED IN THE CENTER AND THEN THE PLASTIC TRIM CAME OFF. UPON INSPECTION, HE DETERMINED THAT THE PLASTIC CLIP ATTACHED TO THE TRIM OF THE METAL BROKE. THE PLASTIC CLIPS WEAKENED AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO SEE WHY IT CAME OFF. THE PART HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONTACT TO REPORT THE PROBLEM TO CHRYSLER. *AK UPDATED 11/16/2005. *NM

I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY DOOR LOCKS FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW. WHEN I PRESS THE BUTTON TO LOCK OR UNLOCK IT WILL NOT WORK AND IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE.I HAVE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS BY HAND. I HAVE CHECKED WITH MY MECHANIC AND HE TELLS ME ITS PROBABLY THE MOTOR AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN EACH DOOR AT ABOUT $150.00 EACH DOOR. I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW IN 2000 I LOVE THE CAR BUT HATE THIS PROBLEM.

I HAVE A 2000 CHRYSLER 300M. AT 15MPH, THE DOORS LOCK AUTOMATICALLY. THAT IS NORMAL. HOWEVER, LAST MONTH, THE LOCKS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE LOCK AND CANNOT BE OPENED BY THE PASSENGER. IF THE DRIVER WERE INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY FOR THE PASSENGER TO GET OUT OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR.

DT: WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKES AND THE GAS FELT LIKE THEY WERE ACCELERATING, IT ACCELERATED SO BAD THE CONSUMER RAN A STOP SIGN. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP VEHICLE. HAD TO PUT IT IN PARK, AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP OVER 100 MPH, AND THE CAR WAS FULL OF GAS FUMES. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK, AND CONSUMER DIDN'T TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL. IT KEPT ACCELERATING. CONSUMER HAD NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE. IT SLOWED DOWN, BUT IT WOULDN'T STOP. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PULL THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION TO GET THE CAR TO COME TO A STOP.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, SHE EXPERIENCED UNWANTED ACCELERATION. THE CONSUMER CONTINUOUSLY STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, BUT COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN FOR A MOMENT AND THEN CONTINUED TO PICK UP SPEED. IT FELT LIKE THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL WERE BEING APPLIED SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE CONSUMER FINALLY MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. I OWN A 2000 CHRYSLER CONCORDE. I HAVE A PROBLEM THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON THE DOOR AND INSIDE COME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO SHOPS TO FIND THE PROBLEM BUT THE LIGHTS NEVER COME ON. FRUSTRATING IS PUTTING IT LIGHTLY. THE LIGHTS HAVE COME ON WHILE THE VEHICLE IS POWERED OFF AND HAS DRAINED MY CAR BATTERY. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THIS ON AND OFF WITH THE INTERIOR LIGHTS HAS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR THREE + YEARS. GOOD THING I OWN ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT IS NOT A CHRYSLER PRODUCT. *TR

2000 CONCORDE~THIS WILL BE THE FOURTH TIME IN LESS THAN A YEAR MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR A/C REPAIR. IT WILL JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN STOP COOLING. THE FIRST TIME, 08/2004, IT HELD A CHARGE AND CHRYSLER COULDN'T FIND A LEAK OR PROBLEM ANYWHERE. THE SECOND TIME, 04/2005, CHRYSLER COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AGAIN, SO THEY SUGGESTED REPLACING THE EVAPORATOR COIL (THEY WEREN'T POSITIVE IF THIS WAS THE PROBLEM OR NOT SINCE THE E. COIL SEEMED "O.K.") TO REPLACE THE E. COIL IT WOULD HAVE COST $1,100! SO, CHRYSLER REFERS ME TO A LOCAL, VERY REPUTABLE, AUTO A/C BUSINESS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHRYSLER CONCORDE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED BRIEFLY. AFTER MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY TWO DAYS LATER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TIMING BELT SKIPPED LINKAGES, AND THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 114,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,100.

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2000 CHRYSLER CONCORDE. THERE IS A SMOKE TINTED PIECE OF PLASTIC BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE WINDSHIELD THAT IS USED TO COVER THE VENTS ON THE HOOD. YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS PIECE OF PLASTIC FLEW OFF THE CAR, HIT MY WINDSHIELD, WENT OVER THE CAR, AND SMASHED IN THE ROAD IN FRONT OF THE CAR BEHIND. SEVERAL CARS FOLLOWING ME HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THEIR PIECE HAS FAILED. 3 YRS AGO THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE I WAS ON A HIGHWAY CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ME TO RUN OFF THE ROAD. ONLY BY LUCK WAS NO ONE WAS INJURED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES WHICH WERE CAUSED BY IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF THE BRAKE LINE. THE ENGINE ALSO MADE SEVERAL CLUNKY NOISES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THE BRAKELINE WAS INSTALLED IMPROPERLY AND OIL SLUDGE BUILD UP CONTAMINATED THE ENGINE CAUSING THE PROBLEMS. ON A SECOND VISIT TO THE DEALER THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SMOKE INDICATING A BLOWOUT. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE BLOW OUT WAS DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE. I CAME OUTSIDE ONE DAY AND PRESSED THE KEYLESS ALARM AND HEARD A LOUD EEEEEEEHHHHHHH NOISE. IT WAS MY DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK MAKING THIS LOUD OBNOCIOUS SOUND. THAT WAS BACK IN APRIL OF 2004. THEN JUST THIS MONTH (NOVEMBER) THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR STARTED MAKING THE SAME NOISE. THIS RESULTS IN ME HAVING TO PRESS THE REMOTE 4 AND 5 TIMES JUST TO OPEN THE DOOR. AS FAR AS THE BACK DOOR, I HAVE TO PRESS THE KEYPAD SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN OPEN THE LOCK FROM THE INSIDE. ON TOP OF THAT, ONE DAY WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, THE LATCH JUST POPPED. NOW, YOU HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF THE CAR ON THAT SIDE. GOD FORBID I AM EVER IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE WHOEVER IS ON THAT SIDE OR SITTING BEHIND ME WILL DEFINITELY BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. AT THIS MOMENT, I AM TRYING TO GET MONEY UP TO GET THESE ISSUES FIXED BECAUSE THE ESTIMATE THAT I RECEIVED FOR JUST THE REAR AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WAS ALMOST $400 ALONE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP KNEW THE PART AND COST AS SOON AS I STARTED TO DESCRIBE MY PROBLEM. SHE STATED THAT THIS WAS A CONDITION SHE WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WOULD BE A CHARGE OF $134.49 FOR THE HEADLIGHT TRIM REPAIR AND $201.17 FOR THE NEW DOOR GASKETS. THE TRUNK I WAS NOT GIVEN AN ESTIMATE ON BECAUSE THEY SAID THE WATER DOCTOR WOULD NEED TO REPAIR THAT. I TOLD THEM THAT I FELT THAT THE CAR WAS DEFECTIVE AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. I WAS CALLED BACK A WEEK LATER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD PAY 1/3 OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR, THE SERVICE DEPT. WOULD PAY 1/3 OF THE COST AND I WOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY THE REMAINING 1/3. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS ARRANGMENT AS I KNOW THIS A DEFECT IN THE CAR.

I HAD BOUGHT A 2000 CHRYSLER CONCORDE IN 2001. THE CAR HAD BEEN ACTING FUNNY. THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON DURING STOPS, THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP WITHOUT MY PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE WAS KNOCKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC & PAID FOR REPAIRS THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEN, SOON AFTER I TOOK THE CAR TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP REPAIR SERVICE AND THEY REPLACED THE CAMSENSOR. IT SEEMED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEMS. ABOUT 6 WEEKS LATER ALL OF THE PROBLEMS RETURNED. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED DRIVING THE VEHICLE EXCEPT WHEN I DROVE IT BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER AT THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. THEY REPLACED THE CAMSENSOR AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY, MY ENGINE FROZE AND NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THEREFORE, NIETHER CHRYSLER NOR THE DEALERSHIP WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY LOSS.
