WHILE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC MY 1995 DODGE RAM1500 PICK UP WENT FROM FIRM STEADY BRAKING,TO PEDAL ON THE FLOOR NO BRAKES.AFTER SEARCHING FOR THE PROBLEM I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE BRAKELINE BETWEEN THE FRAMERAIL AND THE FUELTANK RUPTURED SPRAYING BRAKEFLUID AT HIGH VOLUME. ALSO I HAVE NOTICED HEAVY RUST ON THE LINES (NOT STAINLESS STEEL AS I THOUGHT). AS OF THIS DOCUMENT I HAVE NOT BEGAN REPAIRS.

A BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO A RUPTURE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE HOSE CONNECTED TO THE CALIPER. THIS FAILURE LED ME TO NARROWLY ESCAPE AN ACCIDENT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THE FAILURE APPEARS TO BE CAUSED BY THE BRAKE LINE BEING TOO SHORT CAUSING EXCESSIVE FLEXING DURING TURNING AT THE CRIMP CONNECTOR ON THE CALIPER END OF THE BRAKE LINE. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 DODGE RAM 1500. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO THE REVERSE POSITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO REVERSE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED BACK TO NEUTRAL AND THEN TO REVERSE, AND THE VEHICLE REVERSED. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHIFT WITHOUT BEING PROMPTED. THE FAILURES RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 97V084000 (POWER TRAIN). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO FAULTY TRANSMISSION COOLER AND LINES. TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED AND FLUID LEAKED OUT AND CAUGHT FIRE ON HIGHWAY. THE SELLING DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE NO KNOWN DEFECTS WITH TRANS OR COOLER. REPLACED TRANSMISSION AT A GARAGE. THAT TRANS MELTED DOWN AFTER FIFTY MILES. BOUGHT SECOND TRANS IN THE NEXT TOWN. IT MELTED DOWN AFTER 150 MILES. THIRD REANSMISSION SHOP WENT TO A LOCAL DEALER AND REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE COOLER ASSEMBLY AND THE THIRD TRANSMISSION OPERATED WITHOUT PROBLEM. DODGE NEVER NOTIFIED ME OF THE RECALL, RESULTING IN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF LOSS. I ONLY DISCOVERED THE RECALL WHEN A CANADIAN DEALERSHIP ASKED IF I HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT THESE DISHONEST DODGE DEALERS. *NM

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE TWO MAJOR CRACKS IN THE CENTER OF THE DASHBOARD THAT EXTENDED TO THE DRIVERS SIDE. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED THE DASHBOARD WOULD EMIT SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LIGHT SWITCH BOX, PIGTAIL CONNECTOR AND THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 168,356.

NOT FINDING ANY REFERENCE FROM CHRYSLER OR YOU, I SUGGEST HAVING TALKED TO A MECHANIC 2 DAYS AGO, THERE ARE STILL MANY TRUCKS BURNING UP, WITH OR WITHOUT THE RECALL, THEREFORE THERE NEEDS A NEW CAMPAIGN, BUT ALSO CHECK INTO THE TOXICITY OF THE SITUATION. IT IS MELTING AND BURNING PVC'S AND OTHER PLASTICS, VERY TOXIC AND CANCER CAUSING. I AM FIGHTING TERMINAL CANCER ALSO, PROVEN TO BE LINKED TO THE DIOXINS, HEAVY METALS,AND VINYL CHLORIDES FOUND IN MELTING AND INCINERATING PVC'S. I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH EXCESSIVE STEERING PLAY AND WANDER, WHICH CAUSES A NEED FOR CONSTANT STEERING CORRECTIONS TO AVOID WANDERING INTO OTHER TRAFFIC LANES WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM WORSENS WHEN EITHER PASSING OR BEING PASSED BY LARGE TRUCKS, BUSES, OR RV'S AND CAUSES A TENDENCY TO WANDER OR DRIFT TOWARDS THE LANE OF THE OTHER VEHICLE. THESE SITUATIONS ARE FURTHER WORSENED AND CAUSE DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS WHEN TOWING A TRAILER. THIS CAN CAUSE UNSAFE SITUATIONS OF STEERING OVER- CORRECTION DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE PLAY AND WANDER IN THE STEERING SYSTEM. THE EXCESSIVE STEERING PLAY AND STEERING WANDER CAUSES DRIVER FATIGUE DUE TO THE CONSTANT NEED FOR STEERING CORRECTION WHEN DRIVING FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME AND CAN LEAD TO DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS LIKE MENTIONED EARLIER WHEN BEING PASSED BY LARGE TRUCKS OR RV'S. THE STEERING GEAR AND TRACK BAR WHERE FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED UNDER THE VEHICLES MANUFACTURE WARRANTY @ 32,040 MILES. WITHIN 10,000 MILES THE BEFORE MENTIONED EXCESSIVE STEERING PLAY AND WANDER RETURNED. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL KNOWN AMOUNG 1994-CURRENT DODGE 2500/3500 RAM PICKUPS WITH THE CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE OPTION. I WAS WRITING TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I HAD A LOWER A-ARM WELD BREAK FROM THE FRAME ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE WELD BROKE AND NOT ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS WELD HOLDS THE BOTTOM OF THE WHOLE LEFT WHEEL ASSEMBLY IN PLACE . THIS IS A WELD THAT SHOULD NOT FAIL, AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE FAIL. CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF CAUSING CONSUMER TO PULL OVER. DEALER NOTIFIED. *MR THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. ON ONE OCCASION IT HAD TAKEN THREE HOURS TO DRIVE FIVE MILES. THE CONSUMER WAS GIVEN AN EXPERT OPINION AND WAS TOLD IT WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH WAS REPLACED BUT LATER CUT OFF FOUR MORE TIMES. THE SECOND EXPERT OPINION WAS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE FUEL PUMP BUT IT WAS IN WORKING ORDER. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND READ FAULTY CRANK POSITIONING SENSOR WHICH WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE CUT OFF AGAIN WITHIN A MONTH, IN FACT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SHUT OFF. ANOTHER EXPERT STATED THAT HE WAS SURE THE FUEL PUMP WAS THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS REPLACED. EACH INCIDENT HAPPENED THE SAME WAY; 1/4 TO 1/2 TANK OF GAS. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED A TRADE, RECALL, AND OR A PROPER FIX. *SCC 10/17/03 - CONSUMER STATES THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE FOR EIGHT MONTHS AND STILL HAVE NOT FOUND A REMEDY.

THE DASH STARTED CRACKING ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO, AND THEN STARTED BREAKING INTO SHARP, JAGGED PIECES THAT JUMP OUT AT ME WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, AND THE TRUCK HAS HIT ANY KIND OF UNEVEN ROAD OR BUMP. NOT ONLY IS IT VERY DISTRACTING, BUT THE PIECES ARE VERY SHARP.

DASH BOARD CRUMBLES, WE HAVE LOOKED TO FIND ANOTHER DASH BOARD AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A PROBLEM, ALMOST A JOKE, WE HAVE BEEN TOLD IT'S A DODGE DASH BOARD.. THEY ALL DO THIS. I BELIEVE IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE TRUCK WERE INVOLVED IN A MVC THEN THE PIECES OF THE DASH WOULD BECOME FLYING OBJECTS.. AND INJURY ANY ONE SITTING IN THE TRUCK. WE HAVE OWNED SEVERAL DODGE CARAVANS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS OR SEEM SUCH AN ACROSS THE BOARD PROBLEM WITH SO MANY VECHLIES. DODGE NEEDS TO OFFER A REPLACEMENT A FIX.. BEFORE THE WORST HAPPENS.

The contact owns a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 01V037000 (Vehicle Speed Control) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that parts to perform the recall repair had been discontinued. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

I WENT TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR AND AS I COMPLETED PASSING THE ACCELERATOR STUCK IN THE WIDE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. SINCE I WAS ACCELERATING WIDE OPEN THROTTLE WITH NO CONTROL I DECIDED TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF BUT IN THE PROCESS LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. AT THIS TIME THE VEHICE I PASSED NEARLY REAR ENDED ME. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND WAS ABLE TO FREE THE CABLE MECHANISM BACK TO IDLE POSITION. SOMETHING IN THIS CABLE MECHANISM IS STICKING/BINDING AND THE RETURN SPRING ISN'T STRING ENOUGH TO POP IT BACK. LET ME KNOW IF I CAN BE OF FURTHER ASSISTANCE. APPARENTLY THE DIESEL VERSION HAS BEEN RECALLED BUT THE V-10 HAS NOT. IT APPEARS THE V-10 ALSO SUFFERS FROM THIS STUCK ACCELERATOR PROBLEM.*AK

ONTOP OF ALL THIS IF THE VEHICLE WERE INVOLVED IN A WRECK WHERE THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED THE PASSENGER WOULD GET A FACE FULL OF PLASTIC SHARDS FROM THE DASH ( WHAT LITTLE IS LEFT OF IT) RESULTING IN INJURY AND POSSIBLE BLINDNESS.DODGE HAS PLENTY OF RESOURCES AND MONEY TO FIX THIS ISSUE. YES THE VEHICLE IS 20 YEARS OLD AND OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF VEHICLES MUCH OLDER WITH SOLID DASHES STILL IN ONE PIECE. DODGE CLAIMS THIS IS JUST COSMETIC BUT AS BROKEN AS MINE ITS BECOME MORE THAN THAT. The contact owns a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 35 MPH, she noticed fire coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The contact stated that she was able to move the vehicle to the shoulder of the road and used a fire extinguisher that she had inside the vehicle to extinguish the fire. The contact stated there were no warning lights illuminating. The contact stated that no police report or fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with multiple wires burned, oil mixed with bellows, and no motive power. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure has reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,495.

1995 DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP TRUCK, VIN [XXX]. WHEN DROPPING THE TILT WHEEL TO IT'S LOWEST POSITION THE RADIO/TAPE PLAYER WOULD SHUT OFF AND THEN RESTART AS IF THE POWER WAS CUT OFF. *AK POWER FOR THE RADIO CAME FROM BATTERY POSITIVE, FUSE # 3 (40 AMPS) TO THE IGNITION SWITCH CONNECTOR C212 POSITION 1 WIRE (A1 12 RED) WHERE IT IS SWITCHED IN RUN AND ACCESSORY TO FUSE #7 (10 AMPS) TO THE RADIO AND OTHER FUSES TO OTHER SYSTEMS. RECALL # 875 PERFORMED ON 8/8/2000 INVOLVED THE BLOWER MOTOR, A RELAY WAS ADDED FOR POWER SWITCHING USING THE RELAY CONTROLLED BY THE IGNITION SWITCH RATHER THAN FEEDING THE POWER THROUGH THE IGNITION SWITCH. I OBSERVED THE MOTION OF ALL THE WIRES GOING TO ALL THE SWITCHES ON THE STEERING WHEEL AS IT WAS MOVED. CLEARLY OBSERVABLE WAS THE CONNECTOR C212 POSITION 1 WIRE (A1 12 RED) MOVING OUT OF THE CONNECTOR ACCOMPANIED BY THE RADIO MOMENTARILY LOSING POWER. OBSERVATION SHOWED THE STRIPPED WIRE BEING HELD ONLY BY THE INSULATION CRIMP PART OF THE METAL CONNECTOR, THE WIRE DID NOT FRAY AWAY FROM THE CONNECTOR BECAUSE IT WAS CLEAN CUT AND THE ORIGINAL SMALLER GAUGE WIRE WAS STILL IN THE CRIMP PART OF THE CONNECTOR. NOTE I HAVE PICTURES OF THE PROBLEM. I REMOVED THE SMALLER CRIMPED WIRES, SPREAD THE CRIMP WINGS AND SOLDERED THE RED WIRE TO THE METAL CONNECTOR. MOST LIKELY THE DAMAGE WAS DONE AS PART OF RECALL #875, AS THE WIRING DIAGRAM INDICATES A 12-GAUGE WIRE AND THE WIRE I RECONNECTED WAS AT A MINIMUM OF AN 8 OR A 6 GAUGE. THANK GOD THIS DID NOT FEED A CRITICAL SYSTEM LIKE THE ANTILOCK BREAKS OR CAUSE OVERHEATING AND OR A FIRE. THIS TRUCK BODY STARTED BREAKING OUT BEHIND THE CAB SOON AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THE ENGINE HAS NEVER RAN RIGHT FROM DAY ONE. IT WAS IN THE DODGE SHOP NUMEROUS TIMES BECAUSE OF POOR FUEL MILAGE, AND THEN DODGE FINALLY AGREED TO SEND THE TRUCK TO CUMMINS. CUMMINS FOUND THAT TRUCK HAD BAD MILAGE ALSO AND WROTE LETTER TO DODGE STATING THE PROBLEMS THEY FOUND. DODGE MORE OR LESS SAID TOUGH, DON'T BOTHER US! THE ENGINE HAD BOKEN PUSH ROD AT LOW MILAGE AND NOW AN INJECTOR MELTED TOP OUT OF PISTON RUINING THE ENGINE.
