TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HIS WIFE WAS PARKED THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT THE GEAR SHIFTER INTO PARK, THE GEAR SHIFTER INSTEAD SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE CONTACT'S WIFE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT USED A BRICK TO CHOCK THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT A BOUT 50 MPH DOWN THE ROAD AND STARTED HEARING A NOISE WHEN LETTING OFF THE THROTTLE AND SLOWED DOWN A LIL GAVE IT SOME GAS THEN LET OFF AGAIN NEXT THING I HEAR IS THE DRIVE SHAFT HITTING THE ROAD AND THE TIRES SLIDING ACROSS THE ROAD AND CAUSING ME TO SLIDE ACROSS THE ROAD LOCALLY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC COMING TOWARDS ME I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE SLIDE OF THE REAR TIRES TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I GOT OUT AND WAS LOOKING WHAT HAPPEN THE PION NUT CAME OFF THE PION GEAR LOCKING UP THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE ENDED UP SOMEONE GETTING HURT AND OR KILLING SOMEONE IN A CRASH. THE TRUCK IS VERY WELL TAKING CARE OF AND HAS 108K MILES LOW FOR ITS AGE AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS BEFORE BUT ON THE 05 DODGE RAM TRUCK'S THAT WAS MADE IN 04 IS WHAT SOMEONE TOLD ME

WHEN BACKING THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE GARAGE, I NOTICED AN OILY SUBSTANCE IN THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY BELOW THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, I COULD SEE THERE IS A LEAK EMANATING FROM THE DRIVE-SHAFT AND DIFFERENTIAL WHERE THE PINION SEAL IS LOCATED. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE PINION SEAL FOR THE 2009 AND 2010 MODEL YEARS THAT DOES NOT COVER MY 2008 DODGE RAM 1500. I BELIEVE THE RECALL NEEDS TO EXTEND TO THE 2008 MODEL YEAR ALSO.

I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT BRAKE EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. I TOOK IT INTO THE DODGE DEALER IN VICTORVILLE WHO TOLD ME THAT I DID NOT HAVE A RECALL SO IT WOULD COST ME TO CHNAGE THE ROTORS SINCE IT WAS DAMAGED. I JUST HAD MY HUSBAND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ROTOR WHICH WAS VERY COSTLY SINCE I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP ANYMORE BECAUSE I HAD NO BRAKE PAD ON THE INSIDE OF THE RIGHT ROTOR SINCE IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN STUCK AND JUST FINALLY WORE OUT EVERYTHING. *AK

I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY DOWNTOWN STREET WHEN I TURNED A CORNER AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. AS I TURNED I FELT AN AWFUL JAR. I WAS PULLING A 12' EMPTY TRAILER. I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR TO SEE MY TRAILER LIFT UP ABOUT 3-4 FT. IT STAYED ON THE BALL HITCH BUT BOUNCED TERRIBLY. I ALSO SAW A TIRE ROLLING ACROSS THE ROAD FORTUNATELY NOT HITTING ANY OTHER CAR. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED AROUND MY TRUCK. I ACCOUNTED FOR ALL 4 TIRES ON MY TRUCK AND THE TWO ON MY TRAILER. I THOUGHT I MUST HAD RUN OVER ONE LAYING IN THE STREET. THEN I NOTICED MY SPARE WAS MISSING AND SAW THE METAL PIECE WHERE CABLE GOES THROUGH LAYING IN THE ROAD. THE CABLE BROKE OFF WHICH DROPPED THE SPARE INTO THE ROAD WHICH MY TRAILER RAN OVER. HAD I BEEN GOING FASTER OR ON A BUSIER HIGHWAY THERE PROBABLY WOULD HAD BEEN MORE DAMAGE. ONLY DAMAGE I INCURRED WAS MY TRAILER MESH FLOOR BROKE WELD AND NOW IT IS BENT FRAME. 1998 DODGE RAM 1500. IS THERE A RECALL? RADIATOR IS OVERHEATING. CALL AFTER NOON. THE CONTACT IS EXPERIENCING THE OVER HEATING AND THE TOP OF THE RADIATOR IS HOT; HOWEVER, ITS COLD ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RADIATOR. I HAVE ADVISED HIM OF THE ONE RECALL THAT EXIST FOR THE ENGINE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 79,000. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE RADIATOR MUST BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN SHORT DISTANCES. WHILE DRIVING 65MPH. 210 TO 220 DEGREES AND THE VEHICLE OVERHEATS AND SMOKE WAS PRESENT UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SHUT OFF. IF IT COOLS OFF. 69,000 WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE LATCH THAT HOLDS THE CHILD IN THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT COMES UNLATCHED VERY EASILY. THE STRAPS BECOME VERY LOOSE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED. UPDATED 3/22/2006 - THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. A RECALL HAD BEEN INITIATED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THE CONSUMER SEAT WAS NOT INCLUDED. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD AN ONGOING IGNITION PROBLEM. IT FINALLY BECAME NOTICEABLE IN FRONT OF MY MECHANIC. AFTER MUCH DIAGNOSIS IT WAS FOUND THAT THE #5 CYLINDER OF THE ENGINE HAD ZERO COMPRESSION. A PRESSURE TEST WAS PERFORMED, AND FOUND THAT NO PRESSURE COULD BE HELD IN THE CYLINDER BECAUSE IT WAS GOING DIRECTLY OUT THE EXHAUST VALVE. ENGINE WAS DISASSEMBLED AND THE CYLINDER HEAD WAS FOUND TO HAVE CRACKS BETWEEN THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES ON 3 OUT OF 4 CYLINDERS, WITH NUMBER 5 BEING THE WORST. THE OPPOSITE SIDE CYLINDER HEAD WAS ALSO REMOVED AND FOUND TO HAVE CRACKS IN THE SAME PLACES (BETWEEN THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES IN AT LEAST 2 OF THE 4 CYLINDERS. THE HEADS ARE NOT REPARABLE. UPON CALLING A MACHINE SHOP I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OEM CYLINDER HEADS FOR THIS ENGINE (5.9L) 360 MAGNUM. I ALSO CALLED SEVERAL WRECKING YARDS AND FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM. NONE HAD ANY HEADS THAT WERE SALVAGEABLE. THEY ALL HAD CRACKS IN THEM. IN MY MIND THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN PROBLEM THAT THE DAIMLER/CHRYSLER CORPORATION. SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT, AND PROBABLY DOES. YET, NO RECALL OR TSB HAS BEEN FOUND TO EXIST. THESE CYLINDER HEADS ARE A COSTLY ITEM AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED TO LAST MUCH LONGER THAN THEY HAVE. *AK

NOW GETTING ENGINE CODES FOR O2 SENSORS AND TRUCK SPUTTERS AND CUTS OUT AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE OVER 30 MPH. REPLACED SENSORS. NOW RECEIVING CODES FOR PCM AND NOW REPLACING. AS OF SEPTEMBER 19, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FUSE BOX MELTED, WHICH BE BELIEVED WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING OUT FROM A STOP AND TURNING EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. BOTH FRONT BALL JOINTS AND PITTMAN ARM WERE REPLACED. THERE IS NHTSA RECALL, # 04V596000, REGARDING THE SUSPENSION: UPPER BALL JOINTS. SEAT BELTS

The seatbelt timer module is failing, resulting in the seatbelts staying locked even when fully retracted. This means sometimes I as the driver as well as my front seat passenger cannot buckle up and drive the vehicle safely. I have not reproduced or confirmed this issue with a dealership or independent service center. The component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance agency. A red seatbelt warning light will appear when the seatbelts lock up and goes away when it unlocks.

The drivers side and passanger side seat belts are locked in the seats. There is no fix, you cant drive truck because you can not use the seat belts, they are made into the seats. No one sells part for it. The seat belts will not extend. The seat belts just stopped working, no warning.

SEAT BELT CONTROL MODULE WILL NOT RELEASE RETRACTED BELTS TO ALLOW DRIVER OR PASSENGER TO WEAR SEAT BELTS. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE AND ILLEGAL TO PROPERLY OPERATE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-94 GOING NORTH IN THE CENTER LANE, SUDDENLY IT FELT LIKE I HAD A FLAT TIRE ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE. I SLOWLY TURNED INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND SUDDENLY MY ENTIRE WHEEL ROLLED OFF MY TRUCK AT ABOUT 55 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY TOWARDS THE LEFT LANE AND THEN BOUNCED UP BETWEEN THE CONCRETE DIVIDERS AND FLEW INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC HITTING ONE CAR IN THE FRONT END. I HAD DRIVEN THE TRUCK THE NIGHT BEFORE ABOUT 50 MILES AND NO PROBLEMS, I DROVE THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT ABOUT 10-15 MILES BEFORE THE WHEEL FELL OFF THE TRUCK. ALL BUT 1 LUG ON THE ROTOR WERE BROKE OFF AND THE ONE LUG THAT WAS LEFT WAS BENT AND THE LUG NUT WAS GONE. I HAD MY TIRES ROTATED ABOUT 4-6 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS ACCIDENT AND HAVE HEARD FROM OTHER FRIEND THAT CERTAIN TYPE RIMS ARE PRONE TO THE LUGS BECOMING LOOSE AND THE TIRE FALLING OFF. DROVE MY 1998 DODGE RAM 1500 TO EMPTY MY TRASH, STARTED BACK HOME AND HAD DRIVEN LESS THAN 1/4 MILE WHEN THE TRUCK HESITATED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT AND THERE WAS SOME SMOKE BEGINNING TO COME UP THROUGH DASH AREA ON DRIVERS SIDE. THINKING I MIGHT HAVE A BUSTED RADIATOR HOSE I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER IN THE YARD OF PERSON DOING REPAIR WORK ON AN OLD BUILDING. WHEN I OPENED MY TRUCK DOOR ON DRIVERS SIDE FLAMES SHOT BETWEEN THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR AND SEAT. I JUMPED OUT OF THE TRUCK BUT WAS NOT INJURED. THE MAN SAW FLAMES SHOOTING FROM THE TRUCK AND I WAS VERY FORTUNATE HE HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. HE KEPT SPRAYING THE TRUCK UNDER THE HOOD AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE FIRE UNDER CONTROL JUST AS THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT TRUCK SHOWED UP. THERE WERE A LOT HOT SPOTS AND THE FIREMAN KEPT SPRAYING IT WITH WATER UNTIL IT FINALLY QUIT SMOKING. THE MAIN PART OF THE FIRE WAS RIGHT AT THE FRONT OF THE CAB OF THE TRUCK BELOW THE MOTOR. YOU COULD SEE THE FIRE BURNING FROM THE SIDE LOOKING THROUGH THE WHEEL WELLS. THEY SAID IT HAD TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY GAS LINE BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION. ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRING INCLUDING THE WIRING HARNESS WAS MELTED. THANK GOODNESS THE MAN HAD THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER OR THE WHOLE TRUCK WOULD HAVE BURNED. VERY SCARY INCIDENT ESPECIALLY FOR A WOMAN.

MY 1998 DODGE RAM 1500 QUAD CAB IS LOCATED IN NEW ENGLAND WHERE ROAD SALT IS USED IN THE WINTER. THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS RUSTING BECAUSE OF THIS, THE MOST DANGEROUS ASPECT, HOWEVER IS THE COIL SPRING FRONT MOUNTS, OR BUCKETS THAT HOLD THE BOTTOM SPRINGS TO THE FRONT AXEL ASSEMBLY. DODGE HASN'T OFFERED TO RECALL DODGE TRUCKS TO REPAIR THIS DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW, WHEREBY THE COIL MOUNTS WERE INSUFFICIENTLY COATED, AND IMPROPERLY DESIGNED TO TRAP SALTY WATER IN THEM TO ACCELERATE THE OXIDATION PROCESS. 'ON MAY 26, 2003 I TOOK MY PICKUP TO DENOYER DODGE 2242 CENTRAL AVE, SCHENECTADY, NEW YORK AND HAD THEM HANDLE THE RECALL SITUATION. MY HUSBAND ORDERED THIS TRUCK IN LATE 1997. WE PURCHASED IT NEW AND HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WE HAVE FACED IS THE TRANSMISSION. MID-APRIL 1998 THE FIRST PROBLEMS OCCURED WITH SLIPPAGE, THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES WERE REPLACED, ONE MONTH LATER THE TORQUE CONVERTER WENT AND REPAIRS WERE MADE. NOW AT 51,000 MILES AND VERY LITTLE DRIVING FOR THE LAST 2 YRS (SINCE MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN SICK WITH CANCER) IT HAS BLOWN AGAIN. THE FRONT SEALS ARE LEAKING PROFUSELY. THE REAR WINDOW WAS LEAKING SO BADLY AT ONE POINT THE ENTIRE CEILING INSIDE WAS SOADED. THE ABS COMPUTER WENT WACKY ON US EARLY ON ALSO. THE SEATBELT HAS BEEN TWISTED SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND WE HAVE NOT SUCCESSFULLY FIXED IT. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WE PURCHASED HAS GONE OUT OF BUSINESS. FROM THE DAY I SAW THAT 96 DODGE TRUCK ROLLING DOWN THE STREET I FELL IN LOVE. I SAVED EVERY WAY POSSIBLE TO PURCHASE THE BIG BAD 1500 4X4 5.9(98)WITH EVERY OPTION AVAIL. HAD EVERYTHING AND FROM WEEK 1 HAD PROBLEMS. FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE DRIVING "DUE TO FRAME STRESS" IT ABOUT 2 WEEKS INTO IT. BRAKE FAILURE CAUSE SERIOUS ASSAULT ON GUARD RAIL, AND DODGE SAID I MUST HAVE BEEN DRIVING TO FAST (@ 30 MPH). THEY REFUSED ANY WARRANTY BECAUSE "NOTHING CAN TOUCH THE WHEEL" AND SINCE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER 93 DAYS LEMON LAWS DID NOT APPLY SO AFTER (2) $900 BRAKE JOBS TWO WEEKS APART EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THE SPARK KNOCK CONTINUED. AT 35,067 MILES, THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE TIMING; I DIDN'T THINK THIS COULD BE DONE. THE SPARK KNOCK CONTINUED. AT 43,281 MILES, THE DEALER REPLACED THE INTAKE PLENIUM GASKET. THE SPARK KNOCK CONTINUED. AT 45,093, THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH ENGINE HEADS. THE SPARK KNOCK CONTINUED. AT 57,452 MILES, I INSTALLED A COLDER THERMOSTAT AND THIS HELPED SOMEWHAT, BUT THE SPARK KNOCK RETURNED. AND, TODAY AT 74,834 MILES I INSTALLED A SET OF TRUCK SPARK PLUGS TO SEE IF THAT WILL HELP. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THIS TRUCK HAS AN INHERINT DEFECTIVE DESIGN IN THE ENGINE WHICH IS BEING PREMATURELY WORN OUT DUE TO SPARK KNOCK. MY NAME IS JOHN SIMONELLI AND I PURCHASED A DODGE RAM TRUCK. I HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH IT LIKE BRAKES,AIR, FUEL PROBLEMS, RAIDIATOR, AND WORSE OF ALL STALLING ON LEFT TURNS. I REPORTED TO BELL DODGE OF MY TRUCK STALLING ON LEFT TURNS. THEY LOOKED AT IT ONCE AND SAID THE TRUCK WAS OK. AFTER THAT I TOOK THE TRUCK DOWN TO THE DEALER EACH TIME REPORTING OF INCIDENT. ALL THEY DID WAS DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM AND SEND ME AWAY. THEY WOULD NOT EVEN MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM DESPITE THE DANGER THE TRUCK WAS TO ME AND OTHERS. TO PROVE MY CASE I HAD TO PUSH THEM TO HOOK UP A CO-PILOT FOR READINGS. THE COMPUTER WOULD SHOW THE VEHICLE DIED FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON. HOWEVER THE CO-PILOT WOULD NOT TELL THEM HOW TO FIX PROBLEM SO THEIR FOR THE PROBLEM DID NOT EXCIST. THEN I HAD TO DRIVE AROUND WITH A CAM-CORDER TO RECORD PROBLEM. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS LATE ON CERTAIN OCCASIONS JUMPING INTO GEAR, DIAGNOSTICS' WERE PERFORMED BY DEALERSHIP RESULTING IN A NEGATIVE RESULT, THE TRUCK STILL PERSIST'S WITH THE PROBLEM USUALLY AT SPEEDS' 35 MPH AND UNDER. THE TRUCK HAS PULLED RIGHT UPON DELIVERY, DEALERSHIP REPLACED CALIPERS STATING THAT THE O.E.M. CALIPERS WERE SEIZED FROM FACTORY, THREE DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM WAS BACK, DEALERSHIP PERFORMED ALIGNMENT, PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED AND CONTINUES TO DO SO. THE REASON I PUT POWER STEERING DOWN UNDER THE COMMENTS SECTION IS BECAUSE OF MY BELIEF THAT THE PROBLEM RESIDES IN THE STEERING GEAR-BOX, WHICH HAS NOT BEEN CHECKED. THE BACK-UP LIGHTS DID NOT WORK UPON DELIVERY BUT WERE FIXED IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE BEEN FINE EVER-SINCE. THE DRVER-SIDE WINDOW MOLDING LEAKS AND ON CERTAIN DAYS CAUSES FOGGING OF THE WINDOW RESULTING IN A LOSS OF VISION AND AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. O.E.M. 1. THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR GLASS ON THIS VEHICLE, RAM 2500 SERIES, HAS CRACKED DUE TO THE EXTREME COLD CONDITIONS IN MY LOCATION. PRESENTS AN EVEN MORE AND DISTORTED VIEW OF THE ROADWAY. THE PRODUCT IS INFERIOR GLASS. 2. EXCESSIVE PINGING IN THE 5.9L ENGINE. THE MANUAL STATES THAT YOU CAN USE AN 87 OCTANE RATED FUEL IN THIS ENGINE. IF YOU DO EVEN WITHOUT A "LOAD" IN THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE WILL CONSTANTLY "PING." USING A HIGHER OCTANE RATING THE PINGING NOISE IS STILL NOTICEABLE. ALSO THIS ENGINE FROM THE START USES APPROXIMATELY 1/2 - 3/4 OF A QUART OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. VERY BAD FOR A NEW PRODUCT. 3. THE SAME DOOR ON THE 2500 SERIES (QUAD CAB) RAM TRUCK IS USED ON THE TYPE OF TRUCK THAT I OWN, THE EXTENDED OR CLUB CAB. HOWEVER, WHERE THERE IS WEATHERSTRIPPING ON THE QUAD CAB DOOR ON THE LOWER RUNNING BOARD SIDES, (BOTH DOORS) THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO STRIPPING ON THE EXTENDED CAB DOORS (CLUB CAB). THIS ALLOWS FOR THE INFILTRATION OF DIRT AND WATER TO ACTUALLY COME UP AND SIT OR RESIDE ON THE TOP PLATE. THIS MAKES FOR A BAD SITUATION NOT ONLY FOR THE CLEANLINESS OF THE TRUCK ON THOSE PANELS BUT FOR CORROSIVE QUALITIES AS WELL.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 55 MPH THE VEHICLE WENT TO THE RIGHT THEN TO THE LEFT, GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ALSO, WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOORBOARD, CONSUMER HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES TWO TO THREE TIMES TO GET THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS SEVEN TIMES, AND THE DEALER STILL CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. *AK POWER STEERING PUMP WAS FAULTY. *YH
