THE PLASTIC DASH BROKE IN SEVERAL PLACES WHILE DRIVING ON A ROUGH ROAD. THIS ALSO AFFECTED THE VIN PLATE CAUSING ONE RIVET TO BE DISLODGED AND CAUSING PROBLEMS REGISTERING IT. IN SOME AREAS IT IS CONSIDERED VIN TAMPERING EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT MY FAULT.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS WHEN THE "ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM" (ABS) ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO BATTERY ACID LEAKAGE ONTO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V185000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE). HOWEVER, THE SAFETY RECALL EXCLUDED THE DODGE RAM 1500 SERIES. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

NOTICED BRAKES VERY SPONGY ON 1999 DODGE RAM WHILE COMING TO A STOP LIGHT. WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT ACCIDENT, ALTHOUGH STOPPING DISTANCE WAS ABOUT 15 FEET PAST THE LINE. WAS NEAR HOME, SO DROVE VERY SLOWLY TO MY RESIDENCE WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKING ABILITY. FOUND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM DRIVERSIDE VEHICLE FRAME. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. I REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE AND HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THESE VEHICLES, AS INDICATED ON MANY INTERNET FORMS FOR THESE TRUCKS. I STILL HAVE THE CORRODED BRAKE LINE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND APPLIED MY BRAKES. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY, I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO PUT THE TRUCK IN LOW GEAR AND COME TO A SAFE STOP. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AND THE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. IT APPEARS THAT BRAKE FLUID IS LEAKING FROM A BRAKE LINE UNDER THE BED OF THE PICKUP NEAR THE GAS TANK. THE BREAK IS NOT VISIBLE BECAUSE THE GAS TANK IS IN THE WAY. I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED YET. THE TRUCK IS A 1999 DODGE PICKUP WITH ONLY 29000 MILES. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT STATES THAT HE IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HIS BRAKING SYSTEM, IT WILL NOT STOP. NO PRIOR WARNING TO FAILURE. THE BRAKING IS VERY INSUFFICIENT. THE CONTACT SAYS THAT WITH NORMAL BRAKING IT IS FINE, BUT IT IS WHEN HAVING TO BRAKE IN A PANIC BRAKE TAKE TOO LONG TO ACTUALLY STOP THE VEHICLE. ALMOST, CAUSED ACCIDENTS SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE TRUCK OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION ,AND THE MECHANIC EVEN TOLD HIM THAT THE BRAKES WERE BAD. BUT SINCE THE CONTACT IS ON AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE TO THE TRUCK.*AK THE CONSUMER'S BRAKING SYSTEM DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE ENOUGH PRESSURE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN A PANIC STOP SITUATION. REAR DIFFERENTIAL JUST FELL OFF OF THE TRUCK GOING DOWN HIGHWAY! SMOKE EVERYWHERE , I MAINTAINED COMPOSURE AND GOT OFF OF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED AS I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE PASSING A SEMI WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

THE MECHANIC ADVISED HIM TO TAKE HIS VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND ALL REPAIRS WOULD BE MADE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,000.

I HAVE A 1999 DODGE RAM PICKUP THAT HAS A DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD. NOT LONG AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE DASH BEGAN CRACKING. WHAT SEEMED COSMETIC INITIALLY HAS BEGUN TO WORRY ME. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS MY CHILDREN. THE DASH IS IN PIECES AND IF YOU TOUCH IT, IT GETS WORSE. WILL THIS POTENTIALLY CAUSE A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG AND WHAT WILL DODGE SAY AT THAT POINT? THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER WILL SELL ME THE PART BUT AFTER READING 1000'S OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE, I AM JUST NOT READY TO BUY ANY OTHER DODGE VEHICLES OR EQUIPMENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. THE STATED THAT HE HAD TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP DUE TO LEAKAGE. THREE YEARS LATER THE SHAFT BEARING IN THE WATER PUMP FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE SERPENTINE BELTS TO BREAK. ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING INCREASES THE RISK OF VEHICLE CRASH. HE SPECULATES THAT THE WATER PUMP HOUSING HAS BEEN SAND GLASSED. HE THEN ADDED THAT THE WATER PUMP MATERIAL WAS ALUMINUM, WHICH EVENTUALLY DEGRADES AND CAUSES THE FAILURE. HE REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AGAIN BUT THE REPAIR WAS INSUFFICIENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 70,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 147,000.

WHILE HAULING APPROX. 4000LBS HORSE TRAILER, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO KEEP THE TRUCK TRAVELING AT 20MPH. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED, RESULTING IN A BLOCKAGE OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. APPARENTLY, CHRYSLER HAD RECALLED 1.9 MILLION OF THESE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS BECAUSE OF THE EXACT PROBLEM, BUT AFTER I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, THEY SAID MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I SPENT OVER $800 TO REPLACE MISCELLANEOUS EXHAUST COMPONENTS AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AND WHILE TURNING ONTO BUSY INTERSECTION MY 1999 INTREPID ES 2.7 STOPPED. I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED REWIRING BUT THEN SENT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO HAVE THEM DISMANTLE MY ENGINE AND RETURN IT TO ME WITHOUT PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER SWEARING THAT EVEN IF THEY PUT IT BACK TOGETHER IT WON'T START. SO NOW 3 MONTHS AFTER PAYING MY CAR OFF. IT NEEDS ANOTHER ENGINE. NO WARNING SIGNS, IT JUST STOPPED AND WENT COMPLETELY DEAD. IT SEEMS TO ME THE DEALERSHIP DESTROYED MY ENGINE. THIS TRUCK HAS ALWAYS HAD PLAY IN STEERING. IN ORDER FOR ME TO GO STRAIGHT, THE WHEEL HAS TO BE TURNED ABOUT 45 DEGREES TO THE LEFT, EVEN AFTER AN ALIGNMENT. I HAVE GONE THROUGH MULTIPLE TIE ROD ENDS, AND OTHER STEERING COMPONENTS. I CAN TURN THE WHEEL ABOUT 25% BACK AND FORTH, AND THE TRUCK GOES NO WHERE WHICH IS NOT SAFE, WAY TO MUCH PLAY IN STEERING AND I'VE SEEN A LOT OF INCIDENTS WHERE THIS HAPPENED WITH OTHER PEOPLE. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IF THERE IS NO SHOULDER, YOU ARE STOPPED ON THE ROAD. TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER SIDE WIRING HARNESS ON THE COMPUTER (WHICH IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ENGINE WALL) IS PULLED AND REPLACED WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE KEY, A NOISE OCCURS LIKE AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION .IS BEING MADE, THEN THE VEHICLE CAN USUALLY BE RESTARTED. 1999 DODGE RAM 1500 TRUCK WITH SMALL V8 AND 135,000 MILES. ENGINE STOPS RUNNING WITH NO WARNING. ODOMETER DISPLAYS "NO DC BUSS" SOMETIMES CODE 920 AND 921 APPEAR. DEALER IN MAYSVILLE, KY 41056 REPLACED PCM UNIT. DEALER CANNOT ID THE FAULT CODES. ENGINE STILL STOPS WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER TOWING THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES OVER A YEAR AND A HALF, THE DEALER RECOMMENDS WIGGLING WIRES ON THE PCM PLUG. WIGGLING THE WIRES WILL PERMIT ENGINE RESTART BUT, IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO HAVE THE ENGINE DIE IN TRAFFIC OR TO OPEN THE HOOD AND PLAY WITH IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE DIES OFTEN-MULTIPLE TIMES ON A SHORT DRIVE ACROSS TOWN. THE TRUCK IS NOT FIT FOR USE ON ROADS WITHOUT AN EMERGENCY SHOULDER SINCE IT WILL DIE EVERY TIME IT IS DRIVEN. 1999 DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP HAS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH HEADLIGHTS. WHEN SWITCHING FROM HIGH BEAMS TO LOW BEAMS. THE HIGH BEAMS GO OFF BUT THE LOW BEAMS DO NOT COME BACK ON. I HAVE HAD TWO DODGE DEALERS PLUS ANOTHER GARAGE LOOK INTO FIXING THIS PROBLEM. BOTH DODGE DEALERS SAY THEY COULD NOT VERIFY MY COMPLAINT. THE LAST DODGE DEALER PERFORMED ANOTHER ELECTRICAL WIRING TRACE DIAG AND CLAIMS ALL CIRCUIT OPERATING AS DESIGNED. YET THEY CONTINUE GUESSING AT WHAT MIGHT CAUSE THE PROBLEM AND CHARGE ME FOR REPLACING PARTS THEY CANNOT VERIFY WHERE EVER BAD OR EVEN CAUSING THE FAILURE OF THE LOW BEAMS TO COME BACK ON. THE NORMAL EVENT IS THAT WHEN AN ONCOMING VEHICLE IS COMING AT ME AND I NEED TO TURN OFF THE HIGH BEAMS. THE HIGH BEAMS ARE TURNED OFF WITHOUT ANY LOW BEAMS COMING ON. THIS CREATES AN IMMEDIATE THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY OF BOTH AUTOS OPERATING ON THE SAME SECTION OF ROADWAY. THIS PROBLEM CURRENTLY HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. AFTER THIS SECOND DODGE DEALER CHARGED ME FOR REPLACING ANOTHER SWITCH (ANOTHER GUESS BY THEIR MECH). IT TOOK ME LESS THAN 30 SECONDS TO SHOW A WITNESS DRIVING WITH ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AS THE LOW BEAMS FAILED TO COME ON AFTER ONLY THREE ATTEMPTS OF SWITCHING HIGH BEAMS TO LOW BEAMS. YET DODGE DEALERS STILL SAYS EVERYTHING IS WORKING AS DESIGNED. THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT HERE IN DESIGN. TO DATE IT HAS NOT RESULTED IN A CRASH BUT THERE IS NO TELLING WHEN THE LOW BEAMS WILL FAIL TO COME ON WHEN DRIVING AND THEY ARE NEEDED. THE FIRST TIME I HAD THIS PROBLEMS WAS AT MILEAGE 77,439 BACK ON 11/08/05. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO CLEAR UP AFTER THE FIRST DODGE DEALER HAD REPLACED THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH. BUT NOW THE PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN. SO THE SECOND DODGE DEALER DID NOT FEEL THIS SWITCH WOULD OF GONE BAD AGAIN AFTER JUST 37,000 MILES OF USE ON THIS SWITCH. *TR

FRONT SEAT BELTS ON THE DODGE RAM 1500 QUAD CAB (DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE) ARE LOCKED - THEY WILL NOT PULL OUT OF THE RETRACTOR MECHANISM BUILT INTO THE SEAT BACK, SO THEY CANNOT BE USED. SEAT BELTS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A FAIRLY SIMPLE MECHANICAL DESIGN BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUES INVOLVED, BUT APPARENTLY CHRYSLER CHOSE TO USE AN ONBOARD COMPUTER TO ELECTRICALLY COMPLICATE THE ISSUE. HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT ANY PARTS TO ATTEMPT A REPAIR ARE OBSOLETE AND UNAVAILABLE.

I OWN A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. ON THIS MODEL AS WELL AS MANY OTHER MODELS THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCH WAS RECALLED FOR FAILING TO WORK. NOW MY TRUCK HAD BEEN SERVICED BUT ONE DAY MY HOOD FLEW OPEN WITH SUCH FORCE IT SPRUNG BOTH OF THE SPRING HINGES, RIPPED THE CORNERS OF MY HOOD AND BENT THEM (NOW STARTING TO RUST), CRACKED MY WINDSHIELD AND AT ONE POINT I COULD NOT GET THE HOOD TO LATCH SHUT SO I NOW TIE IT DOWN WITH TWINE. I WAS ONLY DOING ABOUT 25-30, JUST LEAVING A DRIVEWAY. MY DAUGHTER WAS SCARED (?@#^@ AS WAS I) AND WHEN I CALLED THE DODGE COMPANY EVERYONE WAS NICE EXCEPT THE INSURANCE REP HE REALLY TOOK THE CAKE. HE BLAMED ME FOR THE ACCIDENT SAYING IT WAS NOT THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCHES FAULT BUT THE PRIMARY AND THAT I DID NOT PROPERLY MAINTAIN IT. MY PROBLEM OR COMPLAINT IS THIS. ONE NIGHT I WAS DRIVING MY 1999 DODGE RAM 1500 QUAD CAB TO WORK. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY LIGHTS FAILED. THE DRIVING LIGHTS, LOW AND HIGH BEAMS JUST WENT OUT. I HAVE A 23 MILE COMMUTE ONE WAY. WORKING AT NIGHT I WAS PLACED IN A BAD SITUATION. THE ONLY THING I HAD WAS MY PARKING LIGHTS AND FLASHERS. I PULLED OVER AND WAITED FOR THE STATE POLICE, SINCE THEY DID NOT COME. I DROVE TO WORK WITH MY FLASHERS ON. THE GOOD NEWSIS MY LUCK DID NOT RUN OUT I MADE IT TO WORK UNHARMED. IN THE MORNING I DROVE MY TRUCK HOME AND LOOKED UP THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND FOUND THERE IS NO FUSES IN THIS CIRCUIT. I SPOKE WITH MY COUSIN WHO ALSO HAS A RAM AND FOUND OUT THAT HE HAS GONE THROUGH 3 SWITCHES. WOULD THIS BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY HAZARD? WHEN TAKING IT IN FOR FURTHER INSPECTION ANDSERVICE, THEY HAD TO REPLACE "SLOPPY" UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS AS WELL AS ADJUST THE LOOSE STEERING GEAR. (THE STEERING HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOSE BUT THEY'VE NEVER DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL NOW). THE ITEMIZED WORK SHEET DOES NOT INDICATE UPPER BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED, YET STATED THEY WERE. AND BAD UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS WAS NOT THE FULL EXTENT OF WHAT WAS WRONG. WE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE TIE RODS AND SWAY BUSHINGS. I AM THE OWNER OF A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. I KNOW THERE ARE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE DASH BOARD ON MY TURCK WAS IN GREAT SHAPE WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. NOW WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS THE DASH BOARD HAS BEGAN TO DEVELOP LARGE CRACKS IN IT, AROUND THE RIGHT SIDE AIRBAG. THE PROBLEM HAVE GOTTEN PROGRESSIVLY WORSE UNTIL TODAY, WHILE SHUTTING MY HOOD, A VERY LARGE CHUNK AND SEVERAL SMALLER CHUNKS FELL INTO THE FIREWALL AREA WITH A COUPLE SMALLER PIECES FALLING DOWN ONTOP OF THE AIRBAG. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT DUE TO A FEAR THAT IF I WAS TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, WHERE AN AIRBAG WOULD SAVE THE FRONT PASSENGERS LIFE, THAT 1.) THE AIRBAG WILL FAIL TO DEPLOY PROPERLY DUE TO CHAFFING AND CUTS INTO THE AIRBAG FROM DASH PIECES FALLING AND 2.) LARGE PIECES OF PLASTIC DASH WILL BECOME SHRAPNAL FLYING AROUND THE CAR OF THE TRUCK RESULTING IN FURTHER AVOIDABLE INJURIES. I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THIS DASH OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO COOLANT LOSS AND ODOR IN CAB. THEY SAID, ON AT LEAST TWO OF THE OCCASIONS, THAT THEY DO NOT SEE A PROBLEM. ON ONE OCCASION THEY DID REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SERVICE DEPT SAYS ITS THE "INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET". ON JANUARY 8, 2000, I WAS A PASSENGER IN A 1999 DODGE RAM PICKUP WESTBOUND ON INTERSTATE 44 NEAR MILEMARKER 274 IN MISSOURI. A FENTON FIRE DEPARTMENT PUMPER TRUCK CUT FROM THE CENTER LANE ACROSS THE PASSING LANE (WHICH WE WERE IN) AND TRIED TO GET ONTO THE SHOULDER. THIS MANEUVER WAS DONE WITHOUT ANY EMERGENCY LIGHTS, SIRENS, TURN SIGNALS, ETC. WE HAD APPROX. 2 SECONDS TO REACT AND THE DRIVER ONLY HAD TIME TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES. WE HIT THE RIGHT REAR CORNER OF THE FIRE TRUCK WHERE IT PROTRUDED INTO THE PASSING LANE AT APPROX 50 MPH. THE DODGE PICKUP WE WERE IN WAS TOTALLED PER SAFECO INSURACE COMPANY. SEATBELTS SAVED OUR LIVES, BUT WE WERE INJURED MUCH WORSE THAN WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IF THE AIRBAGS HAD GONE OFF. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED DURING THE ACCIDENT. THE AIRBAGS REMAINED UNDEPLOYED UP UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS LAST SEEN ON 1-13-2000. DODGE CLEARLY MADE A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT IF A CRASH OF THIS MAGNITUDE DID NOT SET OFF EITHER AIRBAG. THE REAR HARD BRAKE LINE MOUNTED ON THE FRAME RAIL BEHIND THE FUEL TANK WAS SEVERELY RUSTED IN AN AREA ABOUT 4 INCHES LONG THAT COULD NOT EASILY BE VISUALLY INSPECTED (HIDDEN BEHIND THE FUEL TANK). TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS EXAMINING HIS VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS COMPLETELY FALLING APART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WOULD NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE MECHANIC ADVISED HIM THAT THE HYDRAULIC LINES RUSTED, AND THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM MUST BE REPLACED. I HAVE A 1999 DODGE DURANGO THAT HAS JUST DEVELOPED A PROBLEM. FOR SOME REASON THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE DRIVING. IT CAN BE ON A SIDE STREET DOWN A NARROW CANYON WHICH JUST HAPPENED TO MY WIFE (THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE FACT SHE LOST POWER STEERING AND HAD VERY LITTLE CHOICE FOR PULLING OVER). IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY ANOTHER VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR REASONS I DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN. DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR JOLTED, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR CAME TO A HALT. THERE WAS NEVER ANY WARNING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. ONCE TOWED, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ENGINE HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED A NEW ONE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS. THIS HAPPENED IN FLORIDA, SO THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED BACK TO OUR HOME IN SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE TUNE OF $1000.00. WE THEN HAD THE MECHANIC THAT WORKS ON THE CAR SEARCH FOR A SALVAGED ENGINE. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK, HE WAS ABLE TO LOCATE ONE AND PUT THAT IN THE CAR. THAT COST WAS ALMOST $3000.00. WE THEN STARTED EXPERIENCING ALL TYPES OF PROBLEMS...THE WINDOWS WOULDN'T WORK, THE ALTERNATOR WENT, THE BATTERY CONTINUED TO BE DRAINED. AFTER ALL THIS WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED, WE ARE OUT ALMOST $5500.00. THIS HAS INVOLVED A LOT OF TIME AND INCONVENIENCE TO OUR FAMILY SINCE THIS CAR IS THE PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR SON AT COLLEGE. HE HAS HAD TO TAKE ONE OF OUR CARS TO SCHOOL WHILE WE HAVE SPENT 3 MONTHS TRYING TO CORRECT ALL OF THESE ITEMS DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. IN TALKING WITH THE CHRYSLER HEADQUARTERS, THEY HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE ENGINE FAILURE SITUATION AND APPARENT "SLUG" IN THE LINES, HOWEVER, THEY HAVE NOT HEARD IT ENOUGH TO WARRANT A RECALL OR RE-IMBURSE THOSE OF US THAT HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS TO CORRECT THEIR PROBLEM. I HAVE PURCHASED A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500 SPORT. THE DASH HAS HAD A PROBLEM IN THE PAST AND CRACKED AND SPLIT. I HAVE REPLACED IT BUT EXPECT THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THIS OCCURS DURING AN ACCIDENT, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR THE BROKEN PIECES OF THE BRITTLE PLASTIC TO BECOME SHRAPNEL AND PUNCTURE OR BECOME A FLYING PROJECTILE IN THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. IF IT IS CAUGHT BY THE AIRBAG, THE SPEED CAN BE ACCELERATED WHEN THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS. WHEN WILL NHTSA ISSUE A RECALL ON THE DASHBOARD OF THESE TRUCKS. THE BEZEL AND THE GLOVEBOX'S ARE ALSO SPLITTING AS WELL. WHEN CAN THE RECALL BE EXPECTED. I HAVE NOTED BEFORE THAT THIS PROBLEM EXIST ON NHTSA'S WEBSITE UNDER SEVERAL CATEGORIES.. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE DASH CRACKS OR BREAKS OFF DURING AN ACCIDENT. PICKUP ON 06/26/2017. 3 DAYS LATER 06/29/2017 WHILE TOWING OUR 20 FT NORTH RIVER BOAT ACROSS CHARLESTON HARBOR BRIDGE ON THE DOWN HILL SIDE TO PORT LAUNCH RAMP OUR VEHICLE POWER SHUT DOWN, SEAT BELTS LOCKED UP AGAIN AND OUR BOAT WEIGHT PUSHED HITCH INTO OUR TRUCK DESTROYING THE HITCH AND WHEEL JACK. THE BOAT HAD TO BE TOWED ( $399) TO BE REPAIRED AND $150. IN HITCH REPAIRS. THE TRUCK ITSELF WOULD NOT START UNTIL THE BATTERY NEGATIVE WIRE WAS REMOVED. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN DIRECTLY TO DEALERSHIP ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY. A LOCAL POLICE OFFICER WAS FOLLOWING BEHIND OUR VEHICLE AND STOPPED TO HELP; CALLING A TOW TRUCK. NO REPORT WAS FILED OR REQUIRED. AFTER A 2 WK DELAY THEY COULD NOT FIND A REPLACEMENT MODULE SAYING THEY WERE DISCONTINUED. ADMITTED THEY HAD INSTALLED A MODULE ( NOT A SEAT BELT MODULE SUPPOSEDLY BY MECHANICS ERROR) REQUESTED OUR MONEY BACK WHICH THEY DID 07/14/2017. WE HAVE BEEN SEARCHING UNSUCCESSFULLY ONLINE AND OTHER SOURCES WHICH SAY THEY ARE DISCONTINUED, NOT AVAILABLE. OUR STATE AND CITY LAW CARRIES A $250 DOLLAR FINE FOR NO SEAT BELT USE MORE IMPORTANTLY WE OUR NOW SUBJECT TO EXTREME POSSIBILITY OF DEATH OR MAIMING IN AN ACCIDENT. ACCORDING TO SOME INFORMATION THIS ALSO AFFECTS OUR AIR BAGS WHICH MAY CAUSE FAILURE OF THEM. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD OUR INSURANCE IS NULL AND VOID IF WE DON'T HAVE SEAT BELTS AND EVEN IF WE COULD GET A MECHANIC TO DO A WORK AROUND ( WHICH THEY REFUSED DUE TO THE LIABILITY ISSUES) INSURANCE STILL VOID. IN CASE OF OUR DEATH OR INJURY THERE WILL BE A LAWSUIT AGAINST DODGE. IT WON'T DO US MUCH GOOD! THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. DODGE SHOULD BE FORCED TO PROVIDE A LAW REQUIRED SEAT BELT MODULE REPAIR. DRIVING 30 MPH SUDDEN STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE THEN VISIBLE WHITE FOG OF VAPOR ROSE FROM DEFROST VENTS (DEFROSTER/FAN NOT ON) PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY BUT BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WITH NO ACTIVATION OF BRAKES. ALL THIS HAPPENED QUICKLY, WITHIN 10 SECONDS USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP VEHICLE TO EVACUATE 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND SELF BARELY IN TIME. BYSTANDER SHOUTING THAT IT WAS ON FIRE. FIRE ERUPTED FROM UNDER HOOD AND SPREAD INTO CAB. FIRE DEPT. CALLED BY BYSTANDER AS WE USED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS UNSUCCESSFULLY. TRUCK WAS ENGULFED AND DESTROYED. RECALLS WERE ADDRESSED SPRING OF 2003. A LATER RECALL NOT REALIZED BY US INCLUDES FIX FOR ANTILOCK BRAKE CONTROLLER CORROSION THAT COULD CAUSE FIRE. GEICO CLAIM # 0480694490101028 BUT NO COMPENSATION, AS NOT COVERED FOR FIRE. FIRE DEPT. TOOK A REPORT, POLICE SAID NO COLLISION SO THEY DIDN'T. I DON'T CURRENTLY HAVE THE FIRE DEPT. REPORT BUT MAY BE ABLE TO OBTAIN IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE AS NORMAL. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY DIM AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LIGHT FAILED CAUSING THE BULB TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD SOMETIMES JERK FORWARD AND A SECTION OF THE DASHBOARD WOULD DETACH AND FALL TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 168,859.

IGNITION AND KEY ARE DEFECTIVE. IGNITION KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM VEHICLE IGNITION DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. IGNITION KEY FELL OUT OF IGNITION WHILE DRIVING. IGNITION KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM IGNITION WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND IN MOTION. VEHICLE SOMETIMES DOES NOT NEED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO START THE ENGINE. IF THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING THE KEY CAN BE VERY EASILY PULLED OUT OF THE IGNITION ASSEMBLY, THE KEY JUST SLIPS RIGHT OUT OF THE IGNITION. CHRYSLER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND THEIR RESPONSE IS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I ASKED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE TO FORWARD THE COMPLAINT TO A HIGHER UP PERSON IN CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT AFTER MY PHONE CALL, THAT WAS THE END OF THE ISSUE AND CHRYSLER TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM CONCERNING A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH. I SPOKE TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AT (800) 334-9200. THE APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE AND THE PROBLEM STARTED SIX YEARS AGO AND THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING THROUGH TODAY. GOT MY TRUCK FEB.14,2000 AND IN 2001 I HAD TO START REPLACING FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKES. I DID THIS APPROXIMATELY 2 TIMES A YEAR. IT ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE THE ONES ON DRIVERS FRONT WORE OUT OTHERS WHERE FINE. ON OCT.12,2004 A RAINY NIGHT GOING HOME THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHIMMY WHEN I USED BRAKES. WHEN I WAS GOING TO TURN RIGHT THE BRAKES LOCKED UP ON FRONT AND THREW TRUCK INTO EMBANKMENT NOW WIFE MESSED UP HER NECK DUE TO IMPACT. I DID NOT FILE REPORT CAUSE NO ONE ELSE WAS AT FAULT. THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE FREQUENT. I CONTINUED REPLACING PADS UNTIL RECENTLY. ON JULY 28,2008 I CHANGED EVERYTHING EXCEPT BRAKE BOOST AND MASTER CYLINDER. THE SHIMMYING IS BACK AFTER 3 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE PULLS WHEN I USE THE BRAKES AND WILL THROW YOU INTO OTHER LANE OR OFF THE ROAD. VEHICLE'S BRAKING SYSTEM SEEMED NOT TO BE WORKING PROPERLY, TAKING LONGER DISTANCES TO STOP. A CHECK OF EQUIPMENT SHOWED ALL MECHANICAL PARTS TO BE FIT, AND ADJUSTED CORRECTLY. CONTINUED TO DRIVE VEHICLE BUT THEN HAD SMALL ACCIDENT INVOLVING BRAKING WHILE GOING DOWNHILL. AT THIS TIME IT WAS DETERMINED I HAD NO BRAKE LIGHTS. DIAGNOSTICS OF THE BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEM DETERMINED THE COMBINATION SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS THE CULPRIT AND HAD FAILED, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKE LIGHTS AND FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION TO GO INTO COAST MODE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED. THIS ALSO RESULTS IN THE CRUISE FUNCTION TO NOT CANCEL WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THERE IS NO INDICATION OF FAILURE THROUGH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR THIS FAULT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A REGULAR PROBLEM, AS THIS PART IS BACK ORDERED AT THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. 1).WE WERE DRIVING ALONG WHEN THE TRUCK, WE JUST GOT SUDDENLY DIED. THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED 1/4 OF A TANK. IT IS A SINGLE TANK TRUCK, BUT IT WAS OUT OF GAS. WHEN MORE WAS ADDED IT STARTED UP AND RAN. 2). A HEAVY RAIN FELL , MY SONS CARSEAT (LATCHED IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE QUAD CAB) WAS SO WET THE NEXT DAY I HAD TO WASH AND DRY THE PADDING BEFORE IT COULD BE USED. THE WINDOWS WERE SHUT, LOCKED TIGHT AND PARKED ALL NIGHT. 3). MY HUSBAND WAS COMING FROM WORK A DRUNK DRIVER SUDDENLY PULLED IN FRONT OF HIM. TRYING EVERYTHING TO STOP MY HUSBANDS TRUCK HIT HIS. THE AIR BAGS (NONE OF THEM) WENT OFF! THEY WERE "ON" AT THE TIME OF IMPACT. MY HUSBAND WAS GOING AROUND 45 MILES PER HOUR.4). AS MY HUSBAND STARTED TO WORK THE TRUCK SUDDENLY OVER REVVED AND DIED. IT WAS SAID THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. IT WAS LATER FOUND IT WAS A SENSOR WENT OUT. NEW SENSOR FIXED IT FOR ABOUT A DAY AND A HALF. 5). TRUCK SHIFTED FUNNY, LOST ALL OIL PRESSURE, AND DIED THE MOTOR FAILED. WHEN IT WAS OPENED UP THE CYLINDER WALLS WERE NOT ASSEMBLED RIGHT AT THE FACTORY IT IS A SURPRISE IT EVEN MADE IT TO 87 THOUSAND MILES IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE XXX WALL PATTERN WAS HIGHLY VISIBLE AND NEVER WORN SMOOTH AS IT SHOULD HAVE IF IT WERE RUNNING PROPERLY FROM THE START. SOME OF THE PIECES ARE "MISSING" ALSO IN THIS MOTOR OTHERS ARE IMPROPERLY ALIGNED. WHEN HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS OUT OF BUSINESS AND THE DODGE COMPANY SAYS YOU BOUGHT IT YOU GOT IT . NOT EVEN 90 THOUSAND MILES ON IT . NOW WE ARE STUCK WITH THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF PAYING FOR MY CAR PAYMENT( AS TO SHUFFLE THE KIDS AROUND), HIS REPLACEMENT CAR (AS TO GET TO WORK 30+ MILES AWAY), AND THIS PILE OF MISTAKES IN A SHELL THAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE HIS TRUCK . 1999 DODGE RAM EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.*MR 1 YEAR OLD AND NOT ON REPOSITORY. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED A LIGHT ON THE DASH ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO STATED HE WAS SOLD A VEHICLE WITH NO BRAKES. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING SITUATION SINCE ABOUT 35000 MILES. UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY THE DEALER REPLACED ALL MOST ALL OF THE FRONT END PARTS ON MY 99 RAM 1500 4WD. MOST RECENTLY THIS TRUCK FAILED THE NEW YOUR STATE INSPECTION FOR WOBBLE IN THE STEERING BOX OUTPUT SHAFT. THIS STEERING BOX WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER ABOUT 9600 MILES BEFORE. THE TRUCK HAD A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING AND THE WHEEL WAS AT ABOUT 1:30 INSTEAD OF 12:00. THREE MECHANICS AND MYSELF SAW THE PLAY. THIS GARAGE TOLD ME TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AS IT WOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY. I DID THIS AND HAD TO LEAVE THE TRUCK FOR THEM TO CHECK.I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THERE WAS NO PLAY AND NO REPAIRS WERE NEEDED.THE TRUCK WHEEL WAS NOW AT12: 00 AND IT WAS HARD TO STEER WITH NO RETURN TO CENTER. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE SAID THAT THERE WERE NO ADJUSTMENTS TO THE STEERING BOX AND THAT THE ONLY ADJUSTMENT TO THE ALLIGNMENT WAS TOE IN SO HE SAID THAT MY TRUCK HAD DERVELOPED MEMORY STEERING AND THAT THE STEERING WAS REALLY TIGHT AND THAT I SHOULD NOT COMPLAIN. NOT SATISFIED AS I HAD SEEN THE PLAY MYSELF I REPLACED THE STEERING BOX AND LO AND BEHOLD THE STEERING WAS LIKE NEW. EASY RETURNS TO CENTER AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED. WHAT I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE DEFFECTIVE STEERING BOX WAS THAT THE OVER CENTER ADJUSTMENT WAS 1 TURN TOO TIGHT AND THAT THE WORM SHAFT PRELOAD WAS TOO TIGHT AND THE PITMAN ARM SEALS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW SEALS AND THEY USED CHASSIS LUBE WHICH WAS NEW AND CLEAN.ALL THIS WHILE SAYING THAT THERE WERE NO REPAIRS NEEDED OR DONE. THE PITMAN SHAFT BEARING WAS WORN BETWEEN .045 AND.057 THE NEW SEALS TOOK UP THE PLAY. MY QUESTION WOULD BE IF NEMER DODGE SERVICE DOES THIS KIND OF REPAIR AND SAYS THAT THEY DID NOTHING TO KEEP FROM HAVING TO PAY FOR WARRANTY WORK WHAT ELSE ARE THEY DOING. TRANSMISSION: DODGES COMPUTER CONTROLS THE TORQUE CONVERTER FOR EMISSIONS AND FOR GAS MILEAGE. AFTER FOLLOWING DODGES SPECTS ON SERVICE FOR THE TRUCK AND NO ABUSE TO THE TRUCK WE STILL LOSS THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHICH THAN DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION. STEERING: AT 30000 MILES THE SEALS IN THE STEERING GEAR BOX WENT OUT. AT 81000 AFTER REPAIR EARLIER THE SHAFT AND SEAL WENT OUT AND THE GEAR BOX HAD TO BE REPLACED. I RECENTLY TOOK MY 1999 DODGE RAM 1500 PICK UP TO MY ALIGNMENT SHOP AND HAD TO PUT A NEW TRACKER BAR ON IT. WHICH I REPLACED ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO AT ABOUT 40 THOUSAND MILES.. AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE MY STEERING BOX AND MY TRUCK HAS JUST OVER 54,100 MILES ON IT AND I THINK THAT IS A LITTLE RIDICULOUS. EVER SINCE I BOUGHT MY TRUCK NEW IN 1999 I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT END ALIGNED IN THE FIRST YEAR, THE SECOND YEAR, IN THE YEAR 2002 AND NOW ON MARCH 3 RD 2003 I HAD TO HAVE IT AGAIN FOR THE REASONS I STATED IN THE BEGINNING. I HAD SOME ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS UNDER THE DASH AND IN THE STEERING COLUMN. MY ALIGNMENT SHOP SAYS THEY HAVE REPLACED A LOT OF STEERING BOXES AND THE TRACKER BAR EVEN AT 18,000 MILES. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER THEMSELVES AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND I THINK THEY SHOULD BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT IT IS A RESULT FROM A BAD PART FROM THE FACTORY. I HAVE DOCUMENTED EVERYTHING I HAVE DONE TO MY TRUCK. I HAVE LOOKED INTO THE PRICE OF A NEW STEERING BOX AND I HAVE FOUND THAT DODGE WANTS OVER $600 AND A PARTS HOUSE IN MY TOWN CAN GET THE SAME DODGE STEERING BOX FOR $205. REPLACEMENT OF INTAKE GASKET/ CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS GONE BAD/ TIE ROD WENT BAD. MR THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED SOME BELT SQUEALING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE BELT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. STEERING SEEMED LOOSE. DEALER REPLACED TRAC BAR, INNER AND LOWER TIE ROD ENDS, AND AN ADDITIONAL BAR. JUST AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED, MILEAGE 35,982 ON NOVEMBER 21, 2002. AS OF MARCH 5, 2003 FRONT END AND STEERING IS WORSE THAN WHEN IT WENT IN. VERY LOOSE FEELING, FREQUENT STEERING WHEEL CORRECTION NEEDED. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY ON SNOW COVERED ROADS. VERY UNSAFE FEELING. DEALER WAS ASKED TO CHECK WORK THAT WAS PERFORMED ON NOVEMBER 0F 2002, ON JANUARY 30, 2003. THEY DID NOT LOOK INTO THE SITUATION. ALSO WOULD LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE RADIATOR NEEDING TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH CRANK SHAFT SEAL, LOWER PAN GASKET, AND FRONT SEAL. THIS WAS WITH MILEAGE OF 38,105. THESE ITEMS SHOULD NOT FAIL WITH THIS LOW MILEAGE AND AGE!!!! OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING, AND CHRYSLER WILL NOT ADMIT TO ANY FAULT OF THEIR PRODUCT. ON 14JUN02 I REPLACED THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES WITH NEW ONES. AT THAT TIME I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY VAN. I WAS SHOWN WHERE THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ROTOR ,ON THE LEFT FRONT TIRE, WAS TOO LARGE A DIAMETER FOR THE WHEELS. THE TIRE HAD TO BE FORCED OFF AND ON. SINCE I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED BOTH WHEELS WERE NOW WARPED. IN FORCING THE T HE WHEELS ONTO THE ROTOR, THE LUGS APPEARED TO BE DAMAGED. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF WEIGHTS HAD TO BE USED TO TRY TO BALANCE THE WHEELS. I BELIEVE THAT THIS CAN BE A PROBLEM AND SINCE THIS IS ALL ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, I BELIEVE DODGE SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I CONTACTED DODGE AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS MY PROBLEM. EVERTHING SEEMED ALRIGHT UNTIL WE TRAVELED ANOTHER 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN, IT HAPPENED A THIRD TIME ABOUT 10 MORE MILES DOWN THE ROAD. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEMS, THEY GAVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO ME A WEEK LATER STATING THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WENT DOWN TO CORPUS CHRISTI ON 14 JUL 2000 TO RETREIVE THE TRAILER, TEMP 92 DEGREES, LEFT THE BASE AND TRAVELED 11 MILES BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER UNLOCKED AGAIN.
