MY DASHBOARD WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY THE SUN AND HEAT ( 2008). IT STARTED AS CRACKS AND MORPHED INTO PIECES FALLING APART. I ASKED DODGE IN 2008 IF THEY WAS ANY RECALLS AND THE RESPONDED NO. I COULD HAVE IT REPLACED FOR APPRX 600 USD. ITS NOW 2016 AND I FINALLY HAD MY DASH REPLACED WITH A NEW AFTERMARKET PIECE THAT IS MADE WITH PLASTICS THST ARE DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND SUNLIGHT AND HEAT. WHY IS DODGE ALLOWED TO PRODUCE A PRODUCT THAT FAILS SO EASILY AND NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE? THERE SHOULD BE RELEIF FOR THE OWNERS !!

IT WAS 12/26/2009 I WAS DRIVING A 2000 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 I WAS DRIVING 50MPH AND SWERVED FROM DEER TO THE LEFT CAUGHT EDGE OF ROAD AND MUD AND SIDE SWIPED A TREE THEN HITTING A 5FT WIDE TREE HEADON COMING TO A DEAD STOP AND THE AIRBAGS NEVER WENT OFF THEY WERE TESTED OKAY AND THE OHIO STATE HIGHWAY PATROL SAID THEY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED I ALSO WAS TOLD BY STATE FARM INS THE SAME THING I THEN NOTIFIED CHRYSLER CORP AND WAS SENT A LETTER THAT IT WAS LOOKED AT AND THEY SAID IT WASN'T A DIRECT FRONT END HIT I HAVE PROOF FROM PICS THAT IT WAS AND IT WAS A DEFECT AND THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND ANYTHING ALL I ASKED WAS WHY THEY DIDN'T GO OFF AND A TRUCK TO REPLACE IT DUE TO HAVING MY LIFE FLASH BEFORE ME THIS SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL TO FIX THIS OR PEOPLE WILL LOOSE THEIR LIVES AND CHRYSLER CORP DOESN'T CARE ABOUT SAVING LIVES PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS AND LIKE I SAID I HAVE PICTURES FOR PROOF THAT IT WAS A DIRECT HIT AT 50 MPH. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COULD NOT RECALL THE DETAILS OF THE CRASH SINCE HE WAS UNCONSCIOUS. HE WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL WHERE HE LATER BECAME CONSCIOUS AND WAS ADVISED BY A STATE TROOPER THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED DURING THE CRASH. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN CONTACTED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 135,000.

DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOWN A CITY STREET I STARTED TO APPROACH A STOP SIGN. AS THE VEHICLE CAME ALMOST TO A STOP I HEARD A SCRAPING NOISE AND THEN THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY STOPPED. WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE ENGINE WOULD REV AND THE TRUCK WOULD ACT LIKE IT WAS IN PARK WHILE IN "D". I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK TO INSPECT AND FOUND MY DRIVESHAFT WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED AT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, TO THE TRANSFER CASE. NO ABNORMAL NOISES WERE HEARD PRIOR TO THIS, OR ANY RUNNING ISSUES THAT WOULD HAVE INDICATED A PROBLEM. THE TRUCK WILL NOT MOVE IN FORWARD POSITION, BUT WILL ROLL BACKWARDS IN NEUTRAL. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE DRIVESHAFT FROM THE TRANSFER CASE AND INSPECT, I FOUND THAT THE PINION NUT HAD BACKED OFF AND WAS STILL ENCASED INSIDE THE REAR FLANGE ATTACHED TO THE DRIVESHAFT & U-JOINT. FLUID HAD BEEN BLOWN OUT AND COVERED ALL OF THE REAR AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL. I WAS ABLE TO ROLL MY VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL BACKWARDS OUT OF THE ROADWAY. WE HAULED VEHICLE HOME USING ONE OF OUR OTHER VEHICLES AND A TRAILER WITH A COME-A-LONG WENCH. VEHICLE IS STILL NOT REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE DIRECTLY AT THE DEALER AS WELL AS THROUGH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE CHAT. BOTH INSTRUCTED ME THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE AT THIS TIME. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I FIX THE VEHICLE AND THAT IF A RECALL WAS RELEASED AT A LATER DATE THEN REIMBURSEMENT COULD POTENTIALLY BE ISSUED. THE REASON I CONTACTED DODGE WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MODEL YEARS THAT ARE SLIGHTLY NEWER THAN MY VEHICLE. A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR ALMOST 300K VEHICLES FOR THIS EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. I FEEL DODGE SHOULD HAVE DONE FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO HOW LONG THEY HAD BEEN USING THIS PARTICULAR DESIGN FOR THEIR REAR DIFFERENTIAL PINION NUT AND EXTENDED THE RECALL FURTHER.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A DIRT ROAD AT ABOUT 35MPH. THE REAR END OF MY 2000 DODGE RAM 1500 SPORT 4X4 STARTED GRINDING. I STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT HIT THE PAVEMENT. I CAME TO A STOP AND LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK. THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT WAS HANGING AND THE PINION GEAR WAS POINTED UP TOWARDS THE BED. I TRIED TO MOVE THE TRUCK FARTHER OFF THE ROAD AND THE REAR END WAS FROZE UP. ONCE I GOT IT TO A MECHANIC WE DISCOVERED THAT THE PINION NUT HAD BACKED ITSELF OFF THE PINION GEAR, CAUSING THE PINION GEAR TO GET WEDGED IN THE OTHER GEARS. *TR

NOTICED REDUCED DIRECTIONAL STABILITY, BRAKING DEGRADATION AND VEHICLE PULLED UNDER BRAKING CONDITIONS. THIS LEAD ME TO TAKE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. WHILE ON THE VEHICLE RACK IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS HAD CRACKED IN THE EXACT SAME LOCATION ON BOTH SIDES. ADDITIONALLY, CRACKS WERE DISCOVERED DUE TO WHAT APPEARED TO BE POOR WELDS ON THE FRONT AXLE. ON 01-16-2006, I AUTHORIZED THE FOLLOWING WORK TO BE DONE AT MY OWN EXPENSE: 1) REPLACEMENT OF CRACKED LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND WELDING OF THE CRACKED FRONT AXLE RECALL 00V007000). REPLACEMENT CONTROL ARMS WERE REINFORCED IN THE AREA THAT FAILED ON BOTH STOCK OEM CONTROL ARMS. THE REPLACEMENT ARMS WHERE ALMOST TWICE AS HEAVY AS THE ORIGINALS. WITH THIS INFORMATION, I CONTACTED DODGE DAIMLER/CHRYSLER TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION AND REQUESTED A REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE PARTS REPLACED. CHRYSLER DENIED THE REQUEST AND SAID THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE FOR THE ABOVE LISTED ISSUES. THE SPARE TIRE IS LOCATED UNDER THE CAR AND HELD UP WITH A STEEL CABLE VIA A WINCH HOIST. OVER TIME THE STEEL CABLE SHEERED OFF SO AT ONE POINT RECENTLY I LOST THE SPARE TIRE WHILE DRIVING AND I HAVE NOT NOTICED IT. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM AS IT MAY HAVE DAMAGED A VEHICLE FOLLOWING ME. I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT TO BE DRIVING BEHIND ANOTHER PICKUP TRUCK AND SUDDENLY ITS SPARE TIRE FALLS OUT FROM UNDERNEATH IT. ATTACHED IS A PHOTO OF THE SPARE TIRE WINCH HOIST SHOWING THE SHEERED STEEL CABLE. THIS APPEARS NOT TO BE AN ISOLATED CASE AS CERTAINLY THERE ARE VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE AVAILABLE WHERE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING AT A STOPLIGHT. NO CODES APPEAR AND THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES NO LONGER WORK. THE VEHICLE MAY STARTUP IMMEDIATELY OR TAKE TWO HOURS TO RESTART. THE RADIO AND LIGHTS WORK, BUT THE GAUGES DON'T ENGAGE WHEN TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR. THE PROBLEM OCCURS DURING WARM WEATHER DAYS. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED A NUMBER OF TIMES WHEN MY TEENAGE SON HAS BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I'M AFRAID THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AND PLACE ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR.

I BELIEVE SOMEBODY NEEDS TO HOLD CHRYSLER DAIMLER RESPONSIBLE TO PLACE THE SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN OF THE DASHBOARD FOR THE 2000 DODGE RAM 1500 ON THE RECALL LIST. I HAVE PLACED PHOTOS OF WHY IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN IN THIS REPORT. THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THIS ISSUE FOR 16 YEARS NOW AND HAVE DONE NOTHING TO FIX IT. IT IS OBVIOUSLY MADE OF DEFECTIVE SUB-STANDARD MATERIAL AND HAS AFFECTED A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF PICKUP. THE HUGE CONCERN IS THAT A DASHBOARD OF THIS STANDARD CAN IF NOT ALREADY KILLED OR CAUSED TRAUMATIC INJURIES TO FACE OR HEAD TO PEOPLE IN A COLLISION DUE TO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT OR EVEN FAILURE TO DEPLOY FOR PASSENGER SIDE. PLEASE TAKE ACTION ON THE MATTER BEFORE STATISTICS TAKE PLACE.

BRAKE LINE FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO RWAL UNIT FAILED (PINHOLE LEAK), BUT MANAGED TO AVOID COLLISION. DROVE HOME (SLOWLY) AND FABRICATED/INSTALLED REPLACEMENT SECTION (ABOUT 16" LONG). AFTER BLEEDING BRAKES - DROVE TRUCK NORMALLY UNTIL JUNE 2010. THEN, WITH NO WARNING, THE BRAKES AGAIN FAILED IN A PARKING LOT STOP. FOUND THE LEAK IN THE REAR SECTION OF THE LINE RUNNING FROM FRONT TO REAR.DEALER ESTIMATE TO REPLACE ALL HARD LINES IS $1000. WHO CAN AFFORD THAT ?? THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE VALVE, WHICH WAS INSTALLED IN THE SAME MANNER. THE REPAIR LASTED FOR A YEAR, BUT THE FAILURE HAS RECENTLY RESURFACED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 49,000.

ON 2/22/05 AT 8:20 AM I WAS DROPPING MY GRANDSON OFF AT SCHOOL. I HAD PARKED THE VEHICLE TO SEE RATHER OR NOT HE HAD GONE INTO THE SCHOOL. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE TRUCK I HAD STARTED IT UP AND PUT INTO REVERSE LOOKED BEHIND ME AND WHILE BACKING UP TO NOTICE THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR COMING SO I TRIED TO STOP BACKING WHEN I HAD DISCOVERED THAT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK TO THE FLOOR THE ENGINE WAS REVVING LOUDLY AND THE TRUCK WAS GOING BACKWARDS OUT OF MY CONTROL. AT THAT POINT I HAD NOTICED THAT THERE WERE CHILDREN AND MOTHERS ALL AROUND IN MY PATH I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TURN THE TRUCK TO HIT ANOTHER CAR TO STOP ME. BEFORE I DECIDED TO TAKE SUCH MEASURES I HAD TRIED TO BREAK TO STOP THE TRUCK. THE GAS PEDDLE WAS STUCK I HAD EVEN TRIED TO PULL THE GAS PEDDLE UP AS WELL AS MY BREAKING TO FIND IT WAS DOING ME NO GOOD. AFTER I HAD HIT THE OTHER CAR I HAD FORCED THE TRUCK INTO PARK BECAUSE THE GAS PEDDLE HAD REMAINED STUCK. I THEN TOOK THE KEYS OUT OF THE TRUCK AND GOT OUT TO SEE THE DAMAGE TO THE OTHER CAR. I AM JUST GLADE THAT THERE WAS NO ONE HURT IN THIS SITUATION IT COULD HAVE ENDED MUCH WORSE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN PEOPLE KILLED AND I FEEL LIKE THERE SHOULD BE A INVESTIGATION ON THIS SITUATION. THE TRUCK WAS MANUFACTURED WITH P245/75R16 TIRES WITH A MAX PSI OF 35. THIS COULD RESULT IN OVERINFLATION OF THE TIRES IF A PERSON WENT BY THE PRESSURE ON THE LABEL INSTEAD OF THE TIRES. I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 TRUCK ON INTERSTATE GOING 70 MPH AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN DUE TO EXIT TRAFFIC. WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES MY TRUCK WENT INTO ACCELERATION. NO CRUISE WAS ON. THEY PUT A NEW KIT IN AND CLEANED FUEL INJECTORS AND IT HAS BEEN RUNNING OK. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON INTERSTATE HWY. IF I HAD BEEN ANYWHERE ELSE I FEEL CERTAIN I WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I WENT TO CHANGE MY FRONT PADS (FOR THE 3RD TIME IN 15 MONTHS) AND NOTICED THAT YET AGAIN, ONE OF MY CALIPERS WAS STUCK AND ONE OF THE PISTON DIAPHRAMS WAS TORN. I REPLACED THE CALIPER, PUT IN MY NEW PADS, BLED THE SYSTEM, AND MY BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEABLE, BUT MY STOPPING DISTANCE HAS GREATLY REDUCED. I HAVE TO PUMP THE PEDAL 2-3 TIMES FOR THE BRAKES TO GRAB. Unknown Will be driving down the road and the truck will shut off. When this happens it also affects the power steering and the power brakes. Has happened at a spotlight and I had to push it thru a busy intersection. Has happened going down the road just at random. No warning. THE RETRACTOR IS NOT AN ALR, ELR, OR A SWITCHABLE, AND THEY BOTH HAVE SLIDING LATCH PLATES - WHICH MEAN THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR RAPID DECELERATION THE BELTS ARE NOT GOING TO GRIP AND STOP ANY PERSON FROM COMING FORWARD. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REBUILT, BUT THE VEHICLE IS STILL GRINDING AND HESITATING WHEN PLACED INTO GEAR, DRIVE, OR REVERSE. I PURCHASED A 2000 DODGE RAM 1500 NEW IN 2000. AT 50,000 MILES THE DASH BEGAN TO CRACK AT 2 YRS OLD. ALTHOUGH I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 75K MILES, I WAS INFORMED BY A DEALER THAT TRIM AND UPHOLSTERY WAS NOT COVERED. NOW THE DASH HAS COMPLETELY FAILED, A HUGE HOLE HAS EMERGED, IT RATTLES THIS HAS CAUSED THE DEFROST VENT NOT WORK PROPERLY AND POSSIBLY THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MAY BE COMPROMISED DUE TO THE DASH BECOMING UNSECURE BECAUSE THE PLASTIC HAS BROKEN FROM AROUND THE SCREWS. I LOOKED INTO REPLACING IT ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AND THE TOP PIECE OF THE DASH COST ABOUT 200$ AND NOW THAT I HAVE GOTTEN MY TAX RETURNS BACK I WAS GOING TO GET A NEW ONE BUT THE PRICE IS NOW 375$. I GUESS DODGE FINALLY REALIZED THE PROBLEM WITH THESE DASHBOARDS AND DECIDED TO CASH IN ON THEM. THE TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP ALSO, BUT 50 BUCKS FROM ME AND 2100$ FROM THE WARRANTY PEOPLE FIXED THAT. SECOND IS THE ASD RELAY WHICH MEANS AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN RELAY AND IT ISN'T KIDDING WITH THE NAME. A COUPLE YEARS AGO WHEN I STARTED MY TRUCK IT WOULD SHUT OFF RIGHT AWAY AND WOULDN'T RUN RIGHT UNTIL I FEATHERED THE GAS FOR A LITTLE BIT, AFTER REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL SOLENOID, THE IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR AND MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR I DID A LITTLE MORE RESEARCH AND FOUND IT TO BE A 10 DOLLAR RELAY FROM NAPA. THE THIRD PROBLEM IS A WHOOPING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE THAT I STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS. THE PARKING BRAKE ON THIS TRUCK HAS HAD PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. THE CABLE HAS COMPLETELY SNAPPED TWICE, CAUSING THE 5-SPEED BLACK TRUCK TO ROLL INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, AND THERE IT SAT ALL NIGHT (WE WERE UNAWARE THE CABLE SNAPPED). THE PLACEMENT AND SIZE OF THE DRIVER-SIDE AND PASSENGER-SIDE DOOR WINDOW ALONG WITH THE POSITION OF THE DRIVER SEAT IN THE REAR POSITION LIMITS VISIBILITY TO THE POINT OF CREATING A HAZARD. AVERAGE-SIZED (AND LARGER) DRIVERS MUST LEAN FORWARD WHILE SITTING IN THE SEAT TO SEE OUT BEFORE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND NEAR-MISS COLLISIONS DUE TO REDUCED VISIBILITY HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE SAFETY OFFICE BY MAINTENANCE WORKERS ASSIGNED TO SUBJECT VANS.
