PIECES OF THE DASHBOARD WERE PENETRATING THROUGH THE HEATER VACUUM SYSTEM, WHICH CAUSED THE HEATER NOT TO WORK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000.

DASH PANEL HAS CRACKED BADLY TO THE POINT PIECES HAVE FALLEN OUT EXPOSING WIRES, CONNECTORS, DUCTS AND OTHER UNDER-DASH COMPONENTS. I AM CONCERNED THIS MAY AFFECT INFLATION OF AIR BAGS AND POTENTIAL FOR PIECES OF CRACKED DASH TO CAUSE SEVERE INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. DASH PANEL CRACKING ON THESE MODELS IS WELL KNOWN TO CHRYSLER, AND HAS DRAWN NATIONAL MEDIA ATTENTION (EG NEW YORK TIMES, 2013). CHRYSLER HAS APPARENTLY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE ITS LIABILITY TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM.

DISINTEGRATION OF DASHBOARD PLASTICS. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR DODGE TRUCKS IN THIS TIMEFRAME. IF THIS VEHICLE WERE TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT SUFFICIENT TO DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS, SHARP PLASTIC SHARDS WOULD BE PROPELLED EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING THE FACE AND EYES.

THE HOOD LATCH BEHIND THE GRILL BROKE OR FAILED. MY HOOD FLEW UP AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND SHATTERED MY WINDSHIELD. THE HOOD AND HINGES ARE BENT. IT FELT LIKE I HIT A BRICK WALL. I COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING. I GRADUALLY GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I COULD NOT PULL THE HOOD DOWN. A GENTLEMAN STOPPED TO HELP ME AND WE GOT THE HOOD DOWN BUT IT WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE HOOD HAD TO BE SECURED WITH A BUNGEE CORD. MY TRUCK WAS TOWED AND IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP. THEY WILL BE REPLACING THE HOOD, WINDSHIELD AND HOOD LATCH. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION I WAS PUT IN FROM A FAULTY HOOD LATCH.

DASH, FROMT COVER COVERING INSTUMENT PANEL. SEVERLY CRACKED SO BRITTLE,THAT EVEN JUST A SINGLE TOUCH MAKES IT CRACK AND FALL APART. MY YOUNGEST SON HAS GOTTEN CUT BY THE SHARP EDGES OF THE CRACKS BEFORE. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. I HAVEN'T BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, BUT I WOULD BE CONCERNED THAT THOSE SHARP SHARDS OF HARD PLASTIC COULD FLY AN INJURY MY XHILDREN AND MYSELF.

There have been three times now in the last two years, six-eight months of which I never drove the vehicle due to being repaired. I was driving at about 60-70mph. At which time there were no odd or sudden noises, no warning at all when the trucks acceleration goes way up till I let of the gas pedal, go to pull over while two of the three times, my drive shaft is bouncing between the road and underneath the truck which could have bounced up into another vehicle's windshield, radiator or whatever and could have actually hurt or even killed someone. Thank God nothing like that ever happened. After inspecting the problem, in which all three cases, the transfer case has broken off part of the tailshaft of the transmission and once, even broke part of the transfer case to. After trying to look up the problem on line, the exact same problem seems to have happened to several people from several different states and even one same instance from the same small town that I'm in. All the same instances that I've seen have been from the same type of vehicle from the years of 1995-2001. It just seems like a wide spread problem to me

unknown, Is all I know that I was checking the code on my truck and left truck on all night went out to start truck and battery was dead I got a jump from a friend and it started fine. I let it run for @20-30 minutes then I and my wife went to Realo drug store about 3/4 of a mile from home to get her meds. We pulled up and waiting and got the meds payed for and my wife said there is smoke coming from under the hood. The truck stopped running and I tried to start it back and it did not start. Started smoking more and more I told my wife to get out of the truck and she did the pharmacist came out and help push the truck away from the store. Started flaming up and I drove it to a safe place and finally got out of the truck wife was ok but I had smoke halation and had to go on rescue squad to ER they said along with smoke halation I had a burnt nose ,forehead and burnt throat. Please check about this. Thank you

The dash has been cracking for years. It has now disintegrated into very small pieces. It has clogged up the air ducts. The small pieces have blown in my eyes, creating a driving safety hazard. Ample history and reporting of this matter has been filed. It is an extreme safety hazard. The responsibility is clearly a manufacturing defect.

2001 Dodge RAM has a severely deteriorated dashboard. It has been this way since 2004. I am concerned that pieces of the cracked and damaged dashboard could become dangerous projectiles in the event of a crash with airbag deployment. The damaged pieces on the truck’s dashboard are very sharp, so they could cause serious injury if they broke loose and became a projectile in a crash. It is simply amazing that a recall has not been issued up to this date. We've waited so long for this to be resolved. A dangerous manufacturing flaw!

I WENT OUT TO MY TRUCK THE OTHER DAY AND NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS STARTING TO CRACK ABOVE THE AIRBAG. I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW BUYING IT FROM THE DEALER. IT STARTED WEARING THE TIRES REAL BAD AND WE HAD THEM REPLACED.THEN WE HAD TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AGAIN ( ONLY GETTING 13,000 MILES ON THEM BEFORE THEY WERE ALMOST WORN OUT) SO WE TOOK IT IN AGAIN ( 3RD TIME ) TO GET TIRES WITH UNDER 76,000 MILES ON IT. WE WENT TO FIRESTONE IN CORPUS CHRISTI TEXAS & GOT NEW TIRES AGAIN BUT THEY COULD NOT DO THE ALIGNMENT BECAUSE THE BALL JOINTS ARE REAL BAD. WE HAD NO IDEA THAT IT HAD A PROBLEM BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD ITS NORMAL FOR IT TO RIDE THAT WAY. SO IT HAS BEEN THE BALL JOINTS ALL ALONG AND IT IS GETTING MORE DANGEROUS EVERY DAY- BOUNCES AND FEELS LIKE IT MAY TURN OVER. IT REALLY SCARES ME. I PURCHASED A 2001 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 PICKUP IN APRIL, 2009. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AFTER OWNERSHIP, I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 95 NEAR RICHMOND VA, AT ABOUT 70 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. I CAME TO A STOP, AND TOOK A STATE ROUTE THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP, AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE FOR SOME OBVIOUS DEFECT. I COULD SEE NOTHING. A FEW DAYS LATER, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN ASE CERTIFIED REPAIR SHOP. THEY NOTICED SLIGHT PLAY IN THE LEFT FRONT U JOINT, SO I HAD BOTH REPLACED, KNOWING THAT COULD NOT HAVE POSSIBLY CAUSED WHAT I EXPERIENCED. I DROVE THE VEHICLE ABOUT ANOTHER 6 MONTHS AND HAD THE SAME INCIDENT OCCUR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND ASKED THEM TO INSPECT THE SUSPENSION, EXPLAINING THE VIOLENT SHAKING THAT OCCURRED. THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL 2 WEEKS AGO. AGAIN, WHILE DRIVING ON I95, AT ABOUT 70, OUT OF NOWHERE, WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. IT SHOOK MY BODY SO HARD IT BLURRED MY VISION. THE AC VENT COVERS SNAPPED OUT , MY COFFEE UP BOUNCED OUT OF A TIGHTLY SQUEEZED HOLDER, AND MY DASH BOARD TOP CRACKED INTO ABOUT 15 PIECES. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS AND VIOLENT. I CAME TO A STOP. ONLY THEN DID THE SHAKING STOP. I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND ALL ROUND FOR SOMETHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG, BUT SAW NOTHING. THAT EVENING, I GOOGLED DODGE TRUCK VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND LEARNED ABOUT THE "DEATH WOBBLE". IF THE AUTHORITIES WOULD READ THE INTERNET, AND REPORTS ON THIS ISSUE, IT WOULD BE OVERWHELMING THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT THERE HAS BEEN A DEATH FROM THIS PROBLEM, AS ALL 3 TIMES IT HAPPENED TO ME, ONLY LUCK ALLOWED ME TO EXIT THE TRAVEL LANES , GET IN THE BREAK DOWN LANE AND COME TO A STOP. The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the contact was making a turn and heard a loud grinding noise coming from the vehicle. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and took the vehicle out of gear and heard the grinding sound again. The contact was able to continue to drive to the residence. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the pinion nut was loosened and grinding into the rear axle. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact the vehicle was not safe to drive. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 220,000.

I BROUGHT IT TO A LOCAL (TRUSTWORTHY) MECHANIC AND AFTER A 215.10 BILL I WAS TOLD MY ENGINE FAILED AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY APPROX 5K TO REPAIR IT. THE BRAKE LINE HAS FAILED. THERE IS A PIN HOLE LEAK. THE METAL BRAKE LINE IS BETWEEN THE GAS TANK AND THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. IT HAS RUSTED OUT SO MUCH THAT IT CAUSED THE LINE TO FAIL. THE LINE IS HIDDEN IN THE FRAME, WHICH DOESN'T PROVIDE THE ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF SPACE FOR THE ROAD WASH TO ACTUALLY CLEAN THE LINE. IT SITE ON THE FRAME AND RUSTS AWAY. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE IF I WAS DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF GREATER THAN 25MPH OR STARTED BRAKING WHEN I NORMALLY DO. ON 8/19/2009, I WAS TRAVELING EAST ON RT 360 IN CHESTERFIELD CO, VA IN MY 2001 DODGE 1500 PICKUP TRUCK. AS I APPROACHED THE LIGHT AT TURNER RD, I APPLY THE BRAKES BUT THE TRUCK WAS NOT STOPPING AS NORMAL. I STRUCK THE NISSAN IN FRONT OF ME IN THE REAR. DAMAGE DONE TO BOTH VEHICLES BUT THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO INJURIES. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE STEEL BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS ALONG THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME RAIL HAD BURST CAUSING THE REAR BRAKES TO FAIL. FROM AUG 08 TO PRESENT AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH AND UP MY 2001 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 WHEN HITTING A BUMP THE FRONT END DEVELOPS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" HAVE HAD TO TWO DIFFERENT DODGE DEALERS AND HAVE PAID TO HAVE ALL BALL JOINTS, TIE ROD ENDS, STEERING BOX ETC REPLACED AND PROBLEM IS STILL THERE NOW I START LOOKING ONLINE AND I SEE I AM ONE OF MANY OUT THERE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS NO, OR MISADJUSTED, STOP SO LEFT FRONT TIRE AND SHOCK SUPPORT ATTEMPT TO OCCUPY SAME SPACE DURING SHARP LEFT TURNS, GOUGING TIRE. INTERFERENCE HERE EXISTED FOR AT LEAST 10,000 MILES GIVEN TIME OF LAST TIRE ROTATION THAT PUT DAMAGED TIRE ON REAR. SEVERE POTENTIAL FOR BLOWOUT EXISTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE 2009 AND WAS INITIALLY INFORMED THAT IT WAS A COSMETIC ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED AGAIN OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS SIXTEEN YEARS OLD WITH 240,000 MILES, IT COULD NOT BE SERVICED BY THEM. I AM AN OWNER OF A 2001 DODGE 1500 TRUCK THAT WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION UP UNTIL 2 DAYS AGO, THAT WAS WHEN MY DASHBOARD CAVED IN. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC FOR A SUMMER TUNE-UP. I HAVE A 2001 DODGE RAM 1500 SLT. ALTHOUGH I HAVE TAKEN EXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF THIS TRUCK, THE DASH HAS CRACKED INTO A MILLION PIECES. IT IS ABOUT TO FALL IN. I DOUBT MY AIR BAGS WOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY IN A CRASH, DUE TO THE DECREASED STRENGTH OF THE SURROUNDING AREAS, AND THE FACT THAT THE TOP OF THE DASH IS ABOUT TO FALL INTO THE AIR BAG COMPARTMENT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IN JUNE OF 2006 I NOTICED A HAIRLINE CRACK IN THE DASH OF MY 2001 DODGE RAM 1500, WHICH ONLY HAD 36,000 ON IT AT THE TIME. I DID NOT HAVE IT REPAIRED THINKING THE DEALER WOULD JUST TELL ME IT WAS USUAL WEAR AND TEAR. SINCE THAT DAY THE DASH HAS CONTINUED TO CRACK AND I NOW HAVE A SECTION WHERE THE CRACKS HAVE CONNECTED. IT APPEARS THERE WILL SOON BE AN AREA OF THE DASH THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL OR LARGER WHERE THERE WILL BE A HOLE. THIS HOLE WILL BE DIRECTLY ABOVE THE INSTRUMENTATION. I HAVE RECENTLY LEARNED THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS OF 1998-2002 DODGE TRUCKS. SOME OF WHICH HAVE EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, SUCH AS THEIR HEADLIGHTS GOING OFF. THIS HAS LED ME TO VOICE A COMPLAINT WITH CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND THE NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO HIS DESTINATION. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, HE NOTICED A SMALL HOLE IN THE FUEL RAIL CROSSOVER TUBE. GASOLINE WAS LEAKING DOWN BOTH SIDES OF THE FUEL RAIL ONTO THE MOTOR NEXT TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT A FIRE COULD HAVE OCCURRED BECAUSE FUEL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE HOT ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND INSPECTED BY A TECHNICIAN, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL FAIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $611. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THERE IS A FUEL LINE LEAK ON MY TRUCK, 2001 DODGE RAM 1500, 5.9 LITER ENGINE, VIN (REMOVED). THE LINE CONNECTS THE TWO FUEL INJECTOR RAILS. IT IS INSTALLED WITH A BEND AND AT THE APEX IT FAILED . I CAUGHT IT THE FIRST TIME AND PURCHASED SOME HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE AND REPLACED IT. WHEN IT FAILED THE SECOND TIME I WAS IN CONGESTED TRAFFIC. BY THE TIME I COULD GET TO A SAFE PLACE I PROBABLY PUMPED GALLONS OF GAS ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. I DID NOT REALIZE IT WAS THAT BAD UNTIL I GOT OUT AND INSPECTED IT VISUALLY. I JUST HEARD THE HISSING SOUND AND SMELLED GASOLINE. THAT FAILED ABOUT A MONTH LATER. THIS TIME I PURCHASED SOME FUEL LINE TUBING. CUT AND FLARED IT TO ~3 INCH LENGTH. PUT A RADIUS ON IT SO THAT THE ENDS WOULD ALIGN UP WITH THE MALE RAIL BARBED CONNECTORS. PURCHASED NEW HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE AND CONNECTED THE BENT TUBING. I INSTALLED MALE BARBED FITTINGS ON THE TUBING SO THE FLEX TUBING WOULD BE INSTALLED TO COMPLETE THE CONNECTIONS. I'M HOPING TO ELIMINATE THE BEND STRESS ON THE TUBING SO THE FAILURE MECHANISM COULD BE ELIMINATED. I'M STILL CONCERNED THAT THE ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING MIGHT PUT STRESS ON THE FLEX TUBING AND CAUSE IT TO FAIL LATER. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN 2002 FROM A DEALER. THE BRAKE LINE LEADING TO THE DRIVER REAR TIRE IS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE ENTIRE LINE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE WHEEL WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK WHEN THE BRAKES FELL TO THE FLOOR. IT LEAKED THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE BRAKE FLUID OUT. THE BREAKS DID STILL FUNCTION BUT BARELY. ENOUGH TO GET IT HOME.SHE WAS ON A BUSY STREET IN TRAFFIC WHEN THE BRAKE PETAL WENT TO THE FLOOR.

REAR BRAKE LINE HEAVILY CORRODED AND RUPTURED IN BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND THE FRAME (VERY LITTLE CORROSION TO THE SURROUNDING PARTS/FRAME). FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE LINE BROKE AND I NOTICED I HAD LOST VIRTUALLY ALL BRAKING ABILITY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PUT IT IN GEAR. I HAD DRIVEN IT 10 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE LINE FAILING, AND HAD NOTICED NO DEGRADATION WHATSOEVER.

THE SPARE TIRE CABLE SNAPPED QUITE POSSIBLY CAUSING MY SPARE TIRE TO FALL OUT ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE OR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I LAST CHECKED THE SPARE TIRE IN NOV 2015 AND NOTICED IT GONE IN APRIL 2016. ALL THAT REMAINS IS A SPLINTERED CABLE. THE MECHANIC WHO HAD DONE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE NEW UNIT WE HAD TO BUY EXPLAINED TO US THAT IT APPEARED THAT THE UNIT HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY GREASED & PACKED WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY INSTALLED AT THE PLANT IN WHICH IT WAS MANUFACTURED. THE DASHBOARD ON OUR 2001 DODGE RAM PICKUP CRACKED ONLY AFTER A YEAR. WE TOOK IT SO THE DEALERSHIP IN MCALESTER, OK (RIVERSIDE DODGE) AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THERE IS AN 8 INCH HOLE IN THE DASHBOARD AND NUMEROUS CRACKS OVER THE ENTIRE SURFACE AND EVEN ON THE INSIDE TRIM WORK. SINCE FIRST REPORTING THIS, IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES EXACTLY LIKE OURS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2001. SINCE THEN, THE DASHBOARD HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES. ONCE BY DODGE AND 2 TIMES BY ME. THIS DASHBOARD CONTINUES TO CRACK AND SPLIT. NOW THE BEZEL HAS CRACKED INTO SEVERAL PIECES. NOW, WITHIN THE LAST WEEK, THE GLOVEBOX, MADE OF THE SAME PLASTIC MATERIAL HAS SPLIT AND BROKEN AT THE HINGES. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM THAT IS ALL OVER NHTSA'S COMPLAINT BOARD UNDER SEVERAL LOCATIONS SUCH AS BODY, STRUCTURAL, AIRBAGS. THESE DASHBOARDS HAVE CRACKED SO BADLY, NO ONE KNOWS WHICH PORTION OF THE VEHICLE THAT IS AFFECTED BUT COULD SHOW UP IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS. ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE BLAMED THIS ON UV DEGRADATION, I HAVE OTHER VEHICLES FROM 1986 AND 87 THAT STILL HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE A1999 DODGE 1500 THAT THE DASH HAS ALSO CRACKED AND I HAVE REPLACED AS WELL. WHEN WILL NHTSA FINALLY ISSUE A RECALL FOR FREE REPLACEMENTS. RIGHT NOW, MOPAR AND AFTERMARKET PARTS CONTINUE TO SELL THE DASHBOARD THAT HAS MULTIPLE DEFECTS. THE NEXT DAY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS , THEY REPLACED THE DIMMER SWITCH AND THE MECHANIC WHO WORKED ON MY TRUCK TOLD ME THAT WAS NO THE FIRST ONE HE HAD REPLACED AND TOLD ME I WAS VERY LUCKY. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS THAT CONNECTED THE COMBINATION SWITCH TO THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS CAUSED THE SWITCH TO MELT AND BURNED THE WIRES. THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO. THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE SINCE STOPPED WORKING. While driving and operating the heater, unbeknowst to me leaves/pine needles had come in through the fresh air cowl vent and built up on the heater blower resistor resulting in a fire. This design in dangerous as the default for the air intake is open and allows debris to enter and drop directly into the fan and blower motor resistor. I've searched online and seen multiple reports of this issue. I have a video I can provide if contacted.

THE DASH PANELS ON MY 01 DODGE 1500 RAM QUAD CAB TRUCK HAVE CRACKED AND ARE FALLING APART. THE HOLES IN THE DASH HAVE EXPOSED WIRING AND ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. IT APPEARS THE MOLDED PLASTICS USED IN THE DASH PANELS ARE DETERIORATING OVER TIME DUE TO THE SUN'S HEAT AND RAYS. ON MY 2001 DODGE 1500, THERE IS A TON OF RUST ON THE UNDERSIDE PARTS. THE FRAME AND BODY AREN'T BAD, BUT THE THINGS THAT ATTACH ARE FAILING. THE BRAKE LINES WENT, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ALL WENT AT THE SAME TIME, ALMOST RESULTING IN A WRECK. THE STRAPS THAT HOLD THE GAS TANK IN PLACE RUSTED OUT. A FEW MONTHS AGO MY TRUCK STARTED TO MAKE NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE METAL RUBBING. I GOT IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY SAY IT'S THE FRONT LEFT BEARING AND HUB. I ONLY HAVE 53,000 MILES AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE WARRANTY WILL ONLY COVER THE FRONT BEARING ON A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE. THE UNDER THE BED SPARE TIRE ASSEMBLY CABLE BROKE AT THE JUNCTION OF WHERE THE CABLE ENDS AND THE HOLDING METAL ASSEMBLY BEGINS. 2001 Dodge Ram Dashboard is an extreme safety hazard due to the cracking. I have owned this vehicle for 12 years and it's been garaged kept for 8 years. The dash started with a crack and then a hole was created when hitting a bump. Then I had a mechanic work on the heater, and the dash basically disintegrated when moving it. The holes on this dashboard are absurd. A review of safety information identified others who reported this problem to NHTSA and many more complaints on online message boards. This dashboard creates a safety issue for all personnel in the vehicle in case of an accident since projectiles (pieces of the dash that crumble) will fly. Also, there are other components under the dash that could create additional problems (ie-heater core spraying hot antifreeze after an accident). This is completely absurd. Keep in mind, my vehicle has less than 80K miles and the dash is getting worse.

JUST PURCHASE MY 2001 DODGE RAM THE DAY BEFORE, TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE TO NEIGHBORING TOWN. WAS GOING 45 MPH AND THE ROAD WAS SOMEWHAT BUMPY, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND VERY BOUNCY. THE TOWN WAS 10 MILES AWAY. ARRIVED, TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND WENT INTO MARKET FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES. DROVE BACK HOME WITH THE SAME THING HAPPENING(VIOLENT SHAKING AND VERY, VERY BOUNCY) ALL THE WAY BACK. VERY SCARY AND DEFINITELY NOT RIGHT. STEERING WAS DIFFICULT DUE TO THE BOUNCE AND SHAKE. ON MY WAY TO WORK, AS USUAL, ON A "SLIGHTLY" BUMPY PART OF THE HIGHWAY MY STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END STARTED VIBRATING SO VIOLENTLY THAT I ALMOST LOST CONTROL. I COULD BARELY HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL; AND COULD NOT STEER AT ALL; ALL I COULD DO WAS START BRAKING AND COME TO A STOP. I GOT OUT AND CHECKED MY TIRES AND FRONT END AND EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL. I CONTINUED TO WORK AT ABOUT 40 MPH (I HAD GONE TO WORK EARLY SO NO TRAFFIC) . AT 8:00 I CALLED MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND TOOK IT TO HIM TO CHECK OUT WHAT HAPPENED. 2001 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 V8 DASHBOARD CRACKED INTO MULTIPLE PARTS. THE CRACK LITERALLY HAPPENED ALL AT ONCE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT SOUNDED LIKE A FIRECRACKER EXPLODED. NOTHING WAS PLACED ON THE DASH AND I USE A WINDSHILED SUN DEFLECTOR TO KEEP THE DASH FROM GETTING HOT YET IT STILL HAPPENED. ANYTHING I PLACE ON THE DASH NOW WILL FALL INTO THE INNER WORKINGS OF THE DASH. I HAVE HAD SOME STRANGE WIRING/ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE THE INCIDENT ALL WITHIN THE DASH. Where the sway bar is bolted to the chassis has completely deteriorated causing sway bar to completely detach from both sides of the frame. This has caused it very difficult to steer and nearly impossible the more MPH the vehicle goes. I own another vehicle nearly exactly the same but a 1998 dodge ram 1500 vin number [XXX]. It to has the same exact problem. I believe that the quality of steel used in manufacturing the frame of these vehicles was not up to standards. I TURNED THE KEY TO START THE ENGINE AND AS IT STARTED CRANKING SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE DEFROSTER AND THEN FIRE STARTED COMING OUT THE ENGINE HOOD. LUCKILY I HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER HANDY AND OPENED THE HOOD AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. WONDERED WHERE THE FIRE STARTED SO TRIED STARTING AGAIN AND FIRE STARTED IMMEDIATELY AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE OR ON TOP OF THE BELL HOUSING. I ALSO SMELLED FUEL. THE TRUCK WAS NEXT TO MY GARAGE AND HAD BEEN DRIVEN A FEW DAYS EARLIER. IF I HAD NOT PUT OUT THE FIRE MY WHOLE HOUSE COULD HAVE BURNED DOWN. I DONATED THE TRUCK TO WHEELS 4 VETS.

I'M WORRIED THAT THE AIR BAG ON PASSENGER SIDE IS DEFECTIVE AS THE STRANGEST NOISE IS COMING FROM BEHIND THE DASH LIKE A RUBBER BAND IS TIGHTENING AND THEN CLICKING ON AND OFF. DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. I'VE ALSO HAD MY TRUCK IN FOR THE STEERING BEFORE AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN RIGHT. NOW THE HOOD WILL NOT SHUT RIGHT. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN A LEMON. I FIGHT TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD. AFTER ABOUT 11,000 MILES THE DASH BEGAN TO GET CRACKS AND FALL APART. IT GRADUALLY HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT THERE ARE VERY LARGE HOLES AND PIECES OF THE DASH HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE DUCT WORK OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO HAVE BEEN HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH FUSES BLOWING. THAT IS WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO VANN DODGE IN VINELAND NJ AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. THEY TOOK PHOTOS AND LATER CALLED ME AND SAID THE DETERMINED THAT THE DASH WAS FAILING BECAUSE OF EXPOSURE TO SUN!!! THE VEHICLE IS GARAGED OR PARKED IN THE SHADE FOR MOST OF ITS EARLY LIFE AND CRACKS AND CHUNKS HAPPENED FOR NO APPARENT REASON, BUT THIS IS PROBABLY THEIR WAY OUT OF FIXING THE PROBLEM. NOW COMES ANOTHER PROBLEM OR INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED TO ME BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY PLASTIC THAT WAS USED TO CONSTRUCT THE DASH. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND TURNED ON MY DEFROSTER AND A PIECE OF PLASTIC BLEW OUT OF THE VENT ON THE TOP OF THE DASH OR LACK THERE OF, AND HIT ME IN THE FACE CAUSING ME TO SWERVE AND ALMOST HIT AN ONCOMING CAR. I WAS LUCKY THAT THE CAR AVOIDED ME OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 2 MONTHS AGO TO HAVE SERVICE ON A DIFFERENT VEHICLE AND QUESTIONED THEM ON THE STATUS OF ANY RECALL AND THEY ASKED ME FOR MY VIN # OF MY DODGE RAM PICKUP WHICH I PROVIDED AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECORD OF ME TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THEM FOR A INSPECTION, WHICH IS TOTALLY FALSE!!! THEY CONVENIENTLY LOST MY RECORDS ON MY PICK UP!!!!! SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE DONE TO PREVENT SOMEONE FROM BEING KILLED DUE TO THIS FAULT OF CHRYSLER CORP. MY FATHER BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN 2001, AND I BOUGHT IT FROM HIM IN 2008. ABOUT 20000 MILES ON THE UNIT WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IN 2008, THE DASH STARTED CRACKING AND BECAME VERY BRITTLE, PIECES BEGAN TO BREAK OUT AND HAS CONTINUED TO CRACK AND BREAK. IT IS NOW 2014, ABOUT 32000 MILES ON THIS UNIT, AND I AM GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD WITH AN AFTERMARKET PRODUCT. BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS, I WOULD BELIEVE THAT THE MATERIALS USED IN THE ORIGINAL DASH WERE BELOW ACCEPTABLE QUALITY. NO FRONT END ZERK FITTINGS FOR STEERING COMPONENTS- CHEAP DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. I HAD TO HAVE NEW FRONT END ASSEMBLIES WITH ZERK FITTINGS, AT A COST OF ABOUT $1400.00. I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS THOUSANDS OF OTHERS WITH THE DASH FALLING APART, THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN THE BEZEL JUST FELL OFF OF THE DASH ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE TRAVELING DOWN A BUSY HIGHWAY. I HAD TO TRY AND STEER WITH ONE HAND WHILE USING THE OTHER TO DISLODGE THE BEZEL AND HOLD IT AWAY FROM THE STEERING WHEEL UNTIL I COULD SAFELY PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. SINCE THEN MY GLOVE BOX HAS FALLEN OFF ALONG WITH THE DRINK HOLDER. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT IF I AM INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE AIR BAGS MAY BE DEPLOYED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WILL CAUSE THE DASH TO EXPLODE AND SEND PLASTIC SCHRAPNEL INSIDE THE CAB. ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 2010 I WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 231 IN LAFAYETTE INDIANA, WHEN SUDDENLY I REALIZED I COULD NO LONGER USE THE BRAKES ON MY TRUCK. I TRIED TO SLOW MY VEHICLE BY BRAKING BUT MY BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING SO I JUST LET UP ON THE GAS. AT THIS POINT MY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AS DID MY ABS LIGHT ON THE CONTROL PANEL. I WAS STILL ABOUT 40 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME AND STILL HAD ABOUT 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING TO DO BEFORE I REACHED MY DESTINATION. I DROVE ABOUT 20 MILES AN HOUR WITH MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON AND WAS PREPARED TO US MY EMERGENCY BRAKE IF I NEEDED TO. THANKFULLY THERE WAS CONSTRUCTION GOING ON AT THE TIME ON PARTS OF HIGHWAY 231 AT THE TIME, SO PARTS OF HIGHWAY 231 WERE SLOW GOING ANYWAY. HOWEVER, THE LOSS OF MY BRAKE SYSTEM SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. I MADE IT SUCCESSFULLY HOME WITHOUT INJURING MYSELF OR ANYONE ELSE ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 2010. HOWEVER, MY TRUCK IS ONLY 9 YEARS ONLY AND THIS INCIDENT SHOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN PLACE. WHEN I RETURNED HOME ALL OF MY BRAKE FLUID WAS PORING OUT AND WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF THE MASTER TANK UNDER MY HOOD. FURTHERMORE, LOOKING AT THE BRAKE LINES, THE HARD LINES THAT LEAD TO THIS PROBLEM REVEALED THAT SEVERE RUST HAD LEAD TO THE TOTAL BREAKDOWN AND ACTUALLY CAUSED THE HARD LINES OF MY BRAKES TO BRAKE IN HALF, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN IN A NINE YEAR ONLY VEHICLE, THAT IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED. I HAVE SINCE REPLACE MY BRAKE SYSTEM WITH ALL NEW PARTS AND BLEED THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I HAVE ALSO TOLD PEOPLE WITH WHOM I NOW HAVE OTHER DODGE'S ABOUT MY INCIDENT, TO AT LEAST CHECK THEIR BRAKE SYSTEM FOR POSSIBLE RUST SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH WHAT I HAVE GONE THROUGH. I HAVE KEPT THE OLD PART, AT LEAST FOR A WHILE, IN CASE I NEED TO PROVE THAT THIS REALLY DID HAPPEN AND THESE WERE REALLY BAD PARTS THAT CHRYSLER INSTALLED ON THESE TRUCKS. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO PARK BUT THE SHIFTER WAS STUCK IN THE DRIVE GEAR. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE SHIFTER SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE ENGAGING. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR WHENEVER SHE WOULD DRIVE OVER AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE. IN ADDITION, OFTEN WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION UNTIL AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER AN UNKNOWN RECALL AND THE FAILURES DID NOT OCCUR UNTIL THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE NOT RELATED TO THE FAILURE THE CONTACT WAS EXPERIENCING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.

LAST NOVEMBER ON MY WAY TO SCHOOL, I WAS INVOLVED IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT WHILE GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE ROADS WERE BAD AND EXTREMELY ICY. HOWEVER, I LOST CONTROL OF THE TRUCK WHILE GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, PUT IT INTO 4X4 AND CORRECTED MYSELF, THEN THE 4X4 WENT OUT (WHICH COMMONLY HAPPENED), LOST CONTROL, HIT THE MEDIAN SIDEWAYS, AND ROLLED THE TRUCK. THE PROBLEM WAS DURING THE ROLLOVER, 1. I HAD TO PUSH MYSELF BACK INTO THE SEAT TO ENGAGE MY SEATBELT, AND 2. THE BACK TWO IN ROOF ROLL GUARDS BROKE. I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 20 - 25MPH WHEN I ROLLED AND THE BACK WINDOW SMASHED DOWN SEVERAL INCHES. THE COLLAPSING OF THE ROOF SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AS BAD. THE MEDIAN HAD OVER 6" OF SNOW IN IT. BEING BLINDED CAUSED ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. I THEN HIT A TELEPHONE POLE. AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT OCCURRED THAT CUT BOTH AIR BAGS ON BOTH SIDES WITH MORE SHARDS OF THE DASH. MY 2001 RAM 1500 ALSO HAS A SEVERELY CRACKED DASH AND IS GETTING MUCH WORSE. THIS OCCURRED WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF PURCHASE. CHRYSLER CORP. REFUSES TO RESPOND AND THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT RESPOND WITH ANY HELP CLAIMING THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE PLUS THEY HAVE NO PARTS OR ANY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY CLAIM THERE ARE NO PLANS FOR THE PARTS TO BE MANUFACTURED EITHER. THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME AN EPIDEMIC TO RAM OWNERS AND WILL SOMEDAY BECOME AND CAUSE SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY FATALITY PROBLEMS. 2001 DODGE QUAD CAB PICKUP HAS FAILING WIRING IN STEERING COLUMN WHICH MAKES TRUCK DIE WHILE DRIVING . BOUGHT A 2 YR OLD DURANGO WITH 60,000 MILES ON IT AT CARMAX. AT 116,000 MILES IT STARTED KNOCKING. I TOOK IT TO ALLEN SAMUELS DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIMED THE ENGINE FAILED. DEAR SIR/MAM, I PURCHASED A 2001 DODGE RAM NEW. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES I HEARD ABNORMAL SQUEALING AS I TURNED ONTO OTHER STREETS AT A LOW SPEED. I ALSO NOTICED UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. I WAS ADVISED BY THE DODGE DEALERSHIP THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NO DEFECTS AND TO SEEK OUT THE TIRE MANUFACTURER. IN FEBRUARY 2007 WITH APPROXIMATELY 58,400 MILES ON THE TRUCK I WAS TRAVELING THROUGH TOWN AND HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM MY REAR END. I LOCATED A MECHANIC THAT OPENED UP MY DIFFERENTIAL PAN AND FOUND METAL PIECES LAYING IN THE PAN. MY TRUCK HAS A LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL WITH 4:10 GEARS. THIS LAYOUT OF GEARS IS PART OF THE HEAVY DUTY OFF ROAD PACKAGE DODGE OFFERED WITH THEIR TRUCKS AT THE TIME OF MY PURCHASE. MY MECHANICS DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE POSI- TRACTION SPACERS HAD EXPLODED AS THEY HAD APPEARED TO HAVE STUCK TOGETHER. THE PIECES OF METAL THEN EVENTUALLY TRIED TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE RING AND GEAR CAUSING CHIPPING. THE END RESULT IS TO HAVING THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL COMPLETELY REPAIRED AT A COST WITH PARTS AND LABOR EXCEEDING $1300.00. I RECALLED BACK TO MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT WITH DODGE OF THE EXCESSIVE TIRE SQUEALING AND UNEVEN TIRE WEAR AT 10,000 MILES AND BASED UPON MY KNOWLEDGE BELIEVE THAT THE TIRES WERE SQUEALING WHILE TURNING ONTO OTHER STREETS AS THE REAR END WAS LOCKED UP IN THE POSI TRACTION MODE. 1998-2001 B-VAN (DODGE FULL SIZE). THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IS PROTECTED WITH A 40 AMP FUSE. A 10 GA. WIRE COMES OUT OF THE CONTROL MODULE, THEN THIS 10 GA. WIRE "Y'S" OUT TO TWO 14 GA. WIRES. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE ABS PUMP OR THE RELAY STICKS ON THESE VANS. THEN ONE OF THE 14 GA. WIRES OVERHEATS AND CATCHES THE WIRING HARNESS ON FIRE. THE 40 AMP FUSE DOES NOT BLOW. THE FIRE THEN CONTINUES UNTIL THE VAN IS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THIS VAN WAS BOUGHT BACK FROM US BY CHRYSLER CORP. IN 2002. THERE IS VIBRATION WHEN HITTING A BUMP AT 60-65 MPH. AFTER MANY VISITS TO THE SELLING DEALER, AND A MEETING WITH THE CHRYSLER REP. MY TRUCK STILL EXHIBITS PROBLEMS SUCH AS SAT.4/28/01 WHILE DRIVING I TURNED THE TRUCK RIGHT AND NOTICED THE STEERING WAS EXTREMELY TIGHT, WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED BACK TO THE STRAIGHT POSITION, SOMETHING INSIDE CRACKED, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE (AIR BAG) LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINRED ON, TRUCK WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER AND WAS SET FOR AN APPOINTMENT FOR MONDAY, 4/30/01. THE OWNERSMANUAL STATES ( WARNING IGNORING THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN YOUR INSTRUMENT PANEL COULD MEAN YOU WON'T HAVE THE AIR BAGS TO PROTECT YOU IN A COLLISION) THE DEALER FAILED IN ATTEMPT AFTER ATTEMPT TO INVESTIGATE MY COMPLAINTS, AND NOW CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO DRIVE THIS DEFECTIVE TRUCK. THE TRUCK NOW THREE TIMES IS EXHIBITING FRONT TIRE WEAR, FIRST TIME THEY MATCH MOUNTED THE TIRES AS WELL AS TOOK ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES OFF THE RIM AND EXCHANGED IT WITH THE SPARE TIRE UNDER THE TRUCK, SECOND TIME THEY ALIGNED THE FRONTEND AND ROTATED THE TIRES, 200 MILES LATER THE TIRES SHOWED SIGNS OF WEAR AGAIN, TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO 2 DIFFERENT MICHELIN TIRE DEALERS AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE TIRES ARE WEARING PREMATURELY, TO SOON WITH ONLY 1000 MILES ON THEM SINCE THE ALIGNMENT. THE TRUCK EHIBITS WHAT THE SERVICE DIRECTOR SAYS IS A PING, I WAS INFORMED TO INCREASE THE OCTANE FROM 87 TO 89, WHICH HAS DONE NOTHING.
