DUE TO A MEDICAL CONDITION I WAS NOT EVEN AWARE OF I PASSED OUT WHILE DRIVING. UNCONSCIOUS I DROVE INTO A DITCH, CAME OUT AIRBORNE (ACCORDING TO AN EYEWITNESS), PROCEEDED ON STRAIGHT INTO A TREE. The frame/chasis rusted through and dealer could not raise truck because lift went through frame. If it had not been noticed at dealership, we and others could have been killed if the frame had broken through on the highway. The dealership and repair shop can confirm. The box and other body components are severely rusted. The body around the gas filler cap is so rusty that I have to hold the gas dispenser just so as to prevent gas leakage from the filler apparatus going into the gas tank. The gas tank fell off the truck twice and the truck was towed into the dealer to be fixed. The truck has less than 150,000 miles, and was purchased new. The incidents occurred between 2004 and 2020 - approx. No police reports or injuries, but no help from dealer.

2003 DODGE RAM 1500 DASHBOARD CRACKED ALL OVER. IF INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THE SHARP PCS OF HARD PLASTIC WOULD DEFINITELY IMPALE THE OCCUPANTS. DODGE STATES ITS ONLY A FEW TRUCKS BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE 2003 DODGE RAM WITH A DASHBOARD ON ONE PC. ONCE I WAS FORCED TO BRAKE HARD AND MY PASSENGER REACTED BY SLAMMING HER HAND ON THE DASH AND A SHARP POINT OF A BROKEN PC STABBED INTO HER PALM WHICH BEGAN BLEEDING. DEFINITELY NEED TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AS IT'S A REAL HAZARD THAT COULD MOST PROBABLY RESULT IN A DEATH IF SOMEONE WERE TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT.

The truck was brought in to dealer to inspect/repair wiring for trailer outlet. When they and began raising the vehicle, the rear lift arms broke through the frame on both sides. When I drove it short way to the repair shop (about 5 miles), the frame on the left broke and sagged and I nearly lost control. The repair shop was in sight and I was able to make it at under 10 mph. The road between the dealer and repair shop was an old country road and I never exceeded 45mph. The rusted frame was first noticed by Witt Ford in Pulaski and the frame was reinforced/surrounded by welded plate steel. There was no warning of the defect. If I had been travelling at highway speed and this failure occurred, I would have lost control, the left side of the truck would have been dragging as well as fuel tank. There would have been a crash and probably a fire.

TRUCK BODY RUSTED THROUGH AROUND REAR WHEEL WELLS STARTING IN 2005. RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH IN 2007 (DEALER WOULDN'T REPAIR UNDER 7-YEAR RUST-THROUGH WARRANTY, AND APPEARED MUCH THE SAME AS IN RECENT PHOTO. The driveshaft to pinion gear at the differential comes loose during normal driving. I have replaced the bit numerous times, but it keeps coming loose. There is a recall on same truck but different years. The exact problem the other Rams have is exact issue with mine. When it comes loose, the car grinds to a halt.

Rear end of my ram 1500 pickup model year 2003 locked up doing 60 MPH on the interstate broke the drive shaft and the front of the rear end and yoke off. This is the third rear end I have put in this truck. This has been reported all over the internet thousands and thousands of times over about these Dodge ram 1500 pickup truck rear ends having catastrophic failure causing injury and near fatalities yet Chrysler Dodge Jeep still has not issued a recall for the 2003 model year ram 1500 rear end. It is the same exact rear end as the model year 2005 which has the same recall and other years that they have issued recalls for. I cannot understand how this has gone on for years with so many reports and incidences of this happening and still nothing being done of it. Again this is the third rear end I have put in my truck. My truck only has 120,000 miles on it first rear end went out well under 100,000 mi. It was also brought to the dealership to have pinion seal and nut fixed under warranty at 30,000 miles. I have paperwork proving that there was an issue starting at 30,000 miles with this truck. I really hope somebody will finally do something about this issue that has plagued hundreds of thousands of people and their trucks. A simple internet search will show thousands and thousands of people all having the same issues with their 2003 Dodge ram 1500 pickup trucks. You can see in two of the pictures the skid marks from the rear end locking up on the road and I buy a miracle manage to keep the truck from sliding into the guardrail next to it. The vehicle is currently on a car trailer at my house and can be inspected at any time as I do not have the money to put a fourth rear end to this vehicle at this time.

Around midday of November 25, 2021, a clear day with no precipitation, while operating the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with about 155k miles on it at approximately 35 MPH, the drive train locked up causing the vehicle to go into a skid and a spin that sent the vehicle into a telephone pole. We could have slid into oncoming traffic, fortunately, we did not. The vehicle was totaled. While loading the vehicle onto the tow truck, responders noted that the axle was sheared at the back due to the rear differential locking up unexpectedly. There was a noise, like a whistle or a whine for a few minutes leading up the incident, but not anything that I would associate with this kind or failure, no grinding, roughness, or clunking.

I TOOK COVER OFF DIFFERENTIAL AND THE PINION AND GEAR WERE DESTROYED. THE PINION NUT WAS OFF . THAT BEING SAID, NUT CAME LOOSE, CAUSING PINION TO DROP INTO GEAR BOX , DESTROYING IT. 2003 DODGE RAM REAR SPEED SENSOR WILL FAIL, CAUSING ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER BEHAVIOR AND DASHBOARD ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS TO COME ON. THIS SENSOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TELLING THE ABS SYSTEM THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE AND HOW MUCH PRESSURE TO APPLY WHEN BRAKING. OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH THIS SENSOR NOT WORKING PROPERLY COULD LEAD TO ERRATIC STOPPING LENGTHS, NOT TO MENTION UNRELIABLE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER READINGS. THIS IS EVIDENTLY A RECURRING PROBLEM AMONG MANY YEAR MODELS OF THE VEHICLE, AND THE SAME PART NUMBER IS USED IN MANY APPLICATIONS FOR DAIMLER CHRYSLER VEHICLES. I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY $198.03 TO THE DEALERSHIP TO RESURFACE THE FRONT ROTORS OF MY 2003 DODGE 1500 LONESTAR PICKUP. THE SERVICE TECH VERIFIED THAT I STILL HAVE 8MM OF ORIGINAL BRAKE ON THE FRONT AND 10MM OF ORIGINAL BRAKE ON THE BACK. SINCE I AM PAST THE 12000 MILES REQUIRED BY CHRYSLER THEY FEEL THAT THIS IS A NORMAL WEAR PROBLEM. BECAUSE OF THE BRAKES PULSATING EACH TIME I APPLIED THEM I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CORRECTED AS IT WAS BECOMING WORSE. I FAIL TO SEE THIS AS NORMAL WEAR IF MY BRAKES ARE IN SUCH GOOD CONDITION. I FEEL THAT IT IS A POOR DESIGN OR MATERIAL PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED BY CHRYSLER AND NOT THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. A few years ago, while driving down a rural road, I saw a tire rolling behind my truck. I stopped to remove it from the road and it turned out to be my spare tire.. The cross brace that is connected to the support cable rusted and folded to allow the tire to drop free. I replaced the cross brace and added heavy duty straps to be a backup support so as to assure this incident would not happen again. Last month my friend's son was injured due to an accident involving what appears to be a Pick-Up truck spare tire lost on a state highway. The tire size and a rusted cross brace led the responding police officer to conclude that it came from a Pick-up truck. Perhaps, pick up truck manufacturers should inspect and install a secondary/back up safety strap?

I just bought this car with a smog certificate of less than 90 days ago from today and it caught on fire while I was driving it not even going over 55 miles an hour. I seen a potential recall that would cause a fire like that for the make and model of my vehicle but when I put my vin in it says it wasn’t effected. To be clear my vehicle wasn’t leaking any fluids either.

WHEN I TRIED TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK IT WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THERE WAS A PERSON WALKING IN THE PARKING LOT AND INFORMED ME THAT MY REAR END WAS LEAKING FLUID. I WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST IN A PARKING SPACE AND APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK I SEEN THE FLUID POURING OUT. AT THIS TIME I CALLED AAA AND HAD A TOW TRUCK SENT TO THIS AREA. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED THE DRIVER WAS LOADING THE TRUCK ONTO THE FLAT BED AND THAT'S WHEN MYSELF AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SEEN A SILVER DOLLAR SIZE HOLE ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE PUMPKIN JUST BELOW THE DRIVE SHAFT. I CONTACTED MY MECHANIC AND TOLD HIM ABOUT THIS INCIDENT AND LET HIM KNOW I WOULD BE SENDING THE TRUCK TO HIM FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. MY MECHANIC CONTACTED ME ON SEPT 15, 2015 AND INFORMED ME THAT THE PINION SHAFT SNAPPED OFF THE GEAR AND THE HOLE I SEEN WAS THE SHAFT TRYING TO COME THROUGH THE HOUSING. MY MECHANIC STATED IN HIS PROFESSIONAL OPINION THIS WAS A FACTORY DEFECT THE WAY THIS SHAFT SNAPPED OFF CLEAN. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS (KILLED). I WAS ONLY DRIVING ABOUT 7MPH THROUGH THE PARKING LOT., HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS COULD HAVE ENDED FATAL FOR ME OR ANYONE TRAVELING NEXT TOO ME. BEING THAT THIS SHAFT WAS ABLE TO DO THIS KIND OF DAMAGE TO A STEEL HOUSING MOVING AT THIS LOW RATE OF SPEED.

MY 2003 RAM 1500 HAS HAD INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS SINCE 2004 WHICH OF COURSE DEALER CAN'T REPLICATE. THROUGH RESEARCH FROM MY TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE OF AT TIMES 9MPG TO THE ENGINE STALING AND DYING AND LOSS OF POWER TO A POINT THERE ISN'T ENOUGH POWER TO PULL OUT OF ITS ONW TRACKS, I FINALLY FOUND THE POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER (PDC) AND LATER MODELS CALL THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM). THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE ITEM AND I CALLED CHRYSLER CORP TO FIND NO HELP AT ALL. SO, THE LOCAL DEALER WAS SYMPATHETIC AND OFFERED ONE FROM THEIR PARTS DEPT. OF OVER $600. I HAVE OPTED TO INSTALL IT MYSELF AS I'M VERY CAPABLE AND COULD NOT AFFORD THE $1200 PRICE TAG ON THIS REPAIR THAT HAS COST ME TONS OF MONEY IN GAS/PARTS/TIME AND LABOR. SINCE THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LATER MODELS FOR THE TIPM THERE SHOULD BE ONE FOR THE OLDER ONES AS WELL THAT WE HAVE LIVED WITH FOR THIS LONG. WE HAVE HAD TO GET SOME ONE TO FABRICATE THEM FOR US.THE COMPUTER BOX STARTED FAILING AND ALSO AN OXYGEN SENSOR THAT FAILS AND CAUSES THE TRUCK TO RANDOMLY SHUT OFF YOU LOSE ALL YOUR STEERING YOU HAVE TO THROW THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART AND THROW IT INTO DRIVE TO GET YOUR STEERING BACK. AFTER WE REPLACED THE COMPUTER THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK LOCKED UP AT 65 MILES AN HOUR THANK GOD THE SEAT BELT ARE THE ONLY THING IN THIS VEHICLE THAT ARE WORKING AND THANK GOD WE WERE NOT GOING ANY FASTER AND SOME ONE OTHER THAN ME WAS DRIVING BECAUSE THINGS COULD HAVE ENDED VERY BADLY. IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO FIX THE REAR END WE COULD ONLY FIND TWO REAR ENDS IN THE STATE OF ARIZONA THAT SOLD FOR 1600.00 DOLLARS WITH OVER 90,000 MILES ON THEM THE REST WERE COMPLETELY MANGLED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WELL, SHE SIMPLY TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL BROKE CLEAN OFF AT THE HUB. I THANK GOD SHE WAS GOING LESS THAN 5MPH. HER ROUTE THAT DAY WOULD HAVE PUT HER ON THE HIGHWAY AND IF THIS HAD HAPPENED THEN......I CAN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. THE REPAIR SHOP TOOK PICTURES AND SAID THEY'D PROVIDE WHATEVER INFO I NEEDED. WELL, WHAT WAS NEEDED FOR CHRYSLER TO RECALL THIS A LONG TIME AGO. I UNDERSTAND THE TRUCK HAS SOME MILES ON IT BUT I WAS SHOCKED TO GO ONLINE AND SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER TO SHOW THEM THE RUST AROUND THE REAR WHEEL WELLS AND LOWER BODY IN THE 4TH YEAR INTO THE WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THEY MADE A RECORD OF IT AND WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. THE PART IN QUESTION IS THE LEFT TIE ROD AND STEERING LINKAGE. NEW PARTS (CBUEN491AA. CBUEN492AA) APPARENTLY ARE READILY AVAILABLE PRIOR TO JANUARY 2014 BUT MY TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND REPAIR. CURRENTLY HAS 160K MILES. HAS OCCURRED LAST 3 WINTERS. LOOKED AT BY PRIVATE MECHANIC THE FIRST TIME. REMOVED ICE FROM PCV VALVE. THIS FALL HAD MECHANIC LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. HE SPOKE WITH DODGE DEALER AND THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE PCV VALVE. REPLACED PCV VALVE AND THROTTLE BODY. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR. DIED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, 2 OUTSIDE TEMP. WILL TYPICALLY DIE IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN NO LONGER ENGAGING THROTTLE, IE SLOWING FOR TRAFFIC OR PREPARING TO TURN.

WHILE DRIVING THE VALVE SPRING BROKE AND DROPPED THE VALVE INTO THE CYLINDER CAUSING ENGINE DAMAGE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE 5.7 HEMI ENGINE . ONE THAT DODGE IS WELL AWARE OF . THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF FAVOR GIVEN ON THE MATTER . OUT OF ALL THE ENGINES I HAVE OWNED AS WELL AS WORKED ON THIS IS THE ONLY THAT HAS HAD THIS AS A COMMON FAILURE AND IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

POOR RELIABILITY OF ELECTRICAL CONTROL AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM CAUSES NUMEROUS AND SOMETIMES INTERMITTENT FAILURES OF EXTERIOR SAFETY-RELATED LIGHTING SUCH AS HEADLAMPS (LOW BEAM AND HIGH BEAM), TAILLAMPS, TURN SIGNALS, BRAKE LAMPS, AND TRAILER LAMPS. PROBLEMS SEEM TO BE EXACERBATED IF VEHICLE IS NOT OPERATED FOR A FEW WEEKS. DEALER IS QUOTING REPAIR COST IN EXCESS OF $2000 FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER, WHICH IS REPORTEDLY NOT A SERVICEABLE UNIT. The reason the owners of these Dodges is that the dealers break the already brittle dash boards and REFUSE to repair or replace the dashboard. So most wont have the recall performed. So until the dealers are forced to repair/replace the brittle dashes when they perform these recalls then people will not have it addressed. Also i have owned my Dodge since October 2022. Truck is registered with dodge on the website and yet to receive a recall notice in the mail. Now if i go and look it shows the recall on my truck but many do not register their vehicles with the manufacturers website. All in all the EXPENSIVE dashboards being broke by dealerships performing the recall is why owners wont go thru it. Many have paid thousands in getting the dashes fixed. Also id think brittle dashboards that turn sharp daggers would be a safety hazard as well but yet no recall. My dash is missing HUGE pieces. Leaving sharp jagged edges that will be knives in an accident. I mean if the dashes bust just by replacing an airbag inflator or just sun exposure. Imagine being in an accident.

THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL FOR 2004 AND 2005 FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. HOWEVER THE RECALL STATES THIS COULD HAPPEN. UNFORTUNATELY IT DID HAPPEN TO ME AND CURRENTLY MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE LIST. 2003 RAM 1500 HAS 9.25 REAR END, SAME AS THE RECALLED VEHICLES. IN 2008 WHEN THE TRUCK WAS UNDER WARRANTY THE DASH STARTED CRACKING. I WAS ADVISED AND UP UNTIL OCTOBER, 2010 (WHEN THE WARRANTY EXPIRED) THAT THE CRACKED DASHBOARD IS CONSIDERED COSMETIC AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. STARTING IN DEC. 2010 THE DEFROSTER INSTEAD OF STICKING ONCE IN A WHILE AND REQUIRING A SWITCH FROM DEFROST TO VENT BACK TO DEFROST TO GET IT TO WORK, STARTED NOT WORKING. DODGE WILL NOT REPAIR THE DEFROST ISSUE WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE UNLESS I REPLACE THE DASH. I BELIEVE THAT THE CRACKED DASH WHICH BY ITSELF IS PROBABLY SOMETHING THAT IS MORE A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND POOR ENGINEERING EFFORT BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT MUST BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF ISSUES THAT OCCUR WITH THE DEFROST SYSTEM. Rear fenders are rusted such that wiring harness falls off from underside if fenders and rubs on tires. Middle of frame rusted through on right and left side and dealer's floor lift went about half-way through both sides when the technician. tried to raise truck to check wiring under truck. The lift only crunched about halfway through near the middle of the frame. That was the point when the technician noticed the truck was lifting unevenly and making a crunching sound when he started trying to lift it. He left the truck as it was - with two wheels on the floor and two wheels about an inch off the floor He hollered for th shop supervisor to look at, who came and got me in the waiting room to show me what happened. The dealership could not repair the frame, but said there was a welding shop a couple of miles away down a back road in Zachow, WI where I could safely drive to if I went really slow. I don't know when the frame started rusting or the date the dealer's hydraulic lift broke through the frame. The truck's rear fenders were starting to significantly rust when it was about 3-4 years old. It was purchased new. I don't know how badly the frame had rusted at that time. I'm fairly certain the truck had less that 100,000 miles on it when the dealer found that the frame was rusted through. It's 22 years old now and was bought new in 2003. It has 147,000 miles on it today. Assuming that the miles/year were roughly the same at 6,682, and the tail lights started acting "funny" (the reason we brought the truck to the dealership),happened the year after we bought our new 2013 Lund boat (2014), that would put the mileage on the truck at 73,502. This type of dangerous deterioration should not happen with a low-mileage vehicle like ours.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A FLAT, PAVED ROAD A SUDDEN SMALL GRINDING NOISE WAS DETECTED. WITHOUT WARNING, THE REAR AXLE FROZE AND THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP. The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the driveshaft detached. Due to the failure, the gear oil and rear differential fluid leaked out of the vehicle. The contact was able to temporarily repair the driveshaft. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but offered no assistance. Additionally, the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V312000 (Air Bags) however, the contact was informed that due to a crack in the dashboard, he would be charged for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

WHILE DRIVING AT 72 MPH WITH OUT ANY WARNING, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LITTLE NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT AND SUDDENLY LOST THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER TWICE. INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE 91 FREEWAY IN CA. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE CUT OUT, AND GROUND TO A HALT. I REPEATEDLY TRIED TO RESTART THE TRUCK BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER.I WAS TRAPPED IN THE FAST LANE UNABLE TO MAKE MY WAY TO THE SOFT SHOULDER. FORTUNATELY THE HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS WERE FUNCTIONAL AND I WAS ABLE TO APPLY THESE TO WARN OTHER DRIVERS. EVENTUALLY A TOW TRUCK WAS DEPLOYED TO GET MY OUT OF HARMS WAY. IT WAS A VERY SCARY MOMENT AND I WAS VERY FORTUNATE NOT TO BE HIT. THE FOLLOWING DAY I GOT THE TRUCK TOWED TO A GARAGE WHERE THEY CHECKED IT OVER AND THE ONLY THING THEY COULD FIND WRONG WAS A FUSE HAD BLOWN THAT CONTROLLED IGNITION UNLOCK/RUN START FUNCTION. I TOOK MY '03 DODGE RAM TO MCPEEK DODGE DEALERSHIP IN ANAHEIM, CA FOR WARRANTY WINDSHIELD WIPER REPAIR WORK. THE TRUCK WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION EXCEPT FOR THE WIPERS. LATER IN THE DAY THE SERVICE PERSON CALLED ME TO LET ME KNOW THE WORK WAS COMPLETED, BUT "BY-THE-WAY, WE NOTICED YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON - DO YOU WANT US TO CHECK THIS OUT?" I REPLIED FIRST OF ALL THE LIGHT WAS NOT ON WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN AND SECOND I WAS NOT GOING TO PAY ANY DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND I EXPECT IT TO BE CORRECTED WHEN I PICK IT UP. IT WAS NOT CORRECTED AND DELIVERED BACK TO ME. OBVIOUSLY, DEALERSHIPS (ESPECIALLY BIG 3 MANUFACTURERS) ARE TRYING TO RECOUP LOSSES THROUGH FRAUDULENT / UNNECESSARY SERVICE DUE TO THE MINIMAL MARGINS AND VOLUME OF SALES OF NEW VEHICLES. I AM A MECHANIC AND UNDERSTAND THE SALES PITCH - WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM I FELT SORRY FOR A LITTLE OLD LADY THAT THE SERVICE GUY PREYED ON. SHE JUST WANTED A OIL CHANGE, BUT ENDED UP HAVING HER BRAKES INSPECTED AND PROBABLY REPLACED ONLY BECAUSE "HE NOTICED THEY WERE SQUEAKING". ANYWAY BACK TO MY STORY - IT TOOK ME ALL OF 5 MINUTES WHEN I GOT HOME TO POP THE HOOD AND FIND A WIRE TO THE AIR CLEANER SENSOR THAT THE MECHANIC HAD DISCONNECTED PROBABLY INTENTIONALLY SINCE THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WIPERS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. I FOUND OUT THAT THE MANAGEMENT AT THIS DEALERSHIP HAS INSTRUCTED THE STAFF TO MAKE SURE TO UP-SELL EVERY CUSTOMER AND MAKE SURE SOME OTHER WORK IS FOUND BESIDES ANYTHING THAT THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR. THAT'S FINE IF SOMETHING IS NEEDED, BUT TO INTENTIONALLY DAMAGE A VEHICLE OR REPLACE PARTS UNNECESSARY TO MAKE MORE MONEY IS JUST NOT RIGHT. I SAVED $150, BUT AM STEAMING MAD! WHILE ENTERING THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE USING THE A-PILLAR GRAB HANDLE ASSEMBLY, THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY BROKE FREE FROM THE VEHICLE STRUCTURE. I FELL BACKWARDS ONTO THE PAVEMENT INJURING MY BACK AND LEFT SHOULDER. MY HEAD MISSED STRIKING A CONCRETE CURB BY MERE INCHES. THIS FAILURE CONSTITUTES A SERIOUS SAFETY CONDITION WITH A STRONG POSSIBILITY OF PERSONAL INJURY. THIS IS ALSO A LATENT DEFECT THAT IS UNABLE TO BE DETECTED BY THE CONSUMER UNTIL THE COMPONENT FAILS. MY INJURIES RESULTED IN TWO LOST-WORK DAYS, BUT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IF MY HEAD HAD STRUCK THE CONCRETE CURBING MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY. THIS SAFETY CONDITION AFFECTS BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER A-PILLAR AND B-PILLAR GRAB HANDLE ASSEMBLIES (IF QUAD CAB) IN ALL DODGE RAM SERIES TRUCKS. AN INSPECTION OF THE COMPONENT SHOWED THAT THE ASSEMBLY IS HELD TO THE VEHICLE STRUCTURE WITH TWO 8MM BOLTS. THE BOLTS HAD PULLED-THROUGH THE PLASTIC MATERIAL OF THE ASSEMBLY. THERE IS NO METAL SUB-STRUCTURE WITHIN THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY TO PREVENT BOLT PULL-THROUGH FROM OCCURRING. IT SEEMS UNCONSCIONABLE THAT A MANUFACTURER WOULD DESIGN A COMPONENT TO BE USED AS A OCCUPANT WEIGHT BEARING DEVICE WITHOUT INSURING THAT THE COMPONENT IS DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND THE LOADS LIKELY TO BE PLACED UPON IT. BEST PRACTICES FOR GRAB HANDLES SHOULD ALWAYS INCORPORATE A METAL SUB-STRUCTURE INTO THEIR DESIGN. ON A SIDE NOTE, MY DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT COMPONENT IS ON NATIONAL BACK-ORDER WITH EVERY PARTS DEPOT HAVING FIFTEEN OR MORE PARTS ON ORDER. I OWN A 2003 DODGE RAM 1500 QUAD CAB 4X4. RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS, THE ENGINE DIED. I RESTARTED AND HEARD A LOAD CLANKING SOUND FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE A CONNECTING ROD KNOCK. I CONTACTED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY ARRANGED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE DEALER, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT GET IT STARTED. WHEN HE FINALLY GOT IT STARTED, THE ENGINE LOCKED UP. THE ENGINE WAS TORN DOWN AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE VALVE SPRING ON THE INTAKE VALVE FOR THE #6 CYLINDER HAD BROKEN IN TWO, THE VALVE HAD DROPPED INTO THE CYLINDER, FLIPPED OVER, PUNCTURED A HOLE IN THE #6 PISTON AND SNAPPED IN HALF. THE DEALER, FENTON AUTO GROUP IN PAMPA, TEXAS HAS DONE A GREAT JOB OF ARRANGING FOR A LOANER CAR, AND GETTING THE MECHANIC TO WORK ON IT IMMEDIATELY. DODGE IS REPAIRING UNDER WARRANTY A BRAND NEW SHORT BLOCK, BRAND NEW PASSENGER SIDE HEAD, VALVE SPRING AND VALVE. THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THE PARTS IMMEDIATELY (THE NEXT DAY) AND PLAN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED QUICKLY. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT IF I WERE BUILDING OR REBUILDING AND ENGINE THAT HAD A BROKEN VALVE SPRING PROBLEM THAT I WOULD REPLACE EVERY VALVE SPRING ON THE ENTIRE ENGINE. AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE AND A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS COULD SAVE SEVERAL THOUSAND LATER. SECONDLY, I THINK I AM ENTITLED TO SOME SORT OF COMPENSATION FOR THE LOSS OF THE USE OF MY PICKUP IN THE WAY OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AT NO CHARGE, SERVICE CONTRACT ETC. THE PAYMENTS DON'T STOP JUST BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT ROTORS TURNED DUE TO WARPAGE. The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the steering wheel and the front wheels were uncontrollable. While driving from Georgia to Memphis, there was an unknown object loose by the wheel. The ball joint suspension was replaced by an independent mechanic. The low tire pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact was unable to control the vehicle and had the vehicle towed to an unstated location. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

This vehicle had last been started and driven 7 hrs prior and exploded in the driveway, caught the house on fire and nearly killed my son who was near the inside wall of the house. The engine blew and then the front tires. Three explosions in all before the fire department was able to stop the fire. Luckily they were only a mile away. This was an older but well running vehicle.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, BLACK SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, AN ABNORMAL SOUND EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES, CALIPERS, AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK STARTED SHUTTING OFF, WHETHER IN IDLE OR ON THE FREEWAY. IT WOULD HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THE DAY. WHEN SHUTTING OFF, THE TRUCK WOULD LOOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. TOOK TO MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS AND MECHANICS WHO COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK, WOULD NEVER THROW ANY CODES, FINALLY SPOKE WITH A MECHANIC WHO TALKED TO A COMPUTER PERSON WHO STATED THAT WE NEEDED TO HAVE THE COMPUTER FIXED BUT IT WOULDN'T BE AVAILABLE FOR 3-6 WEEKS DUE TO IT BEING ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES. YOU ARE UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHEN YOU LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. MY GIRLFRIEND USED THE BRAKES AND THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD ALLOW HER TO SLOW DOWN AND REGAIN CONTROL CAUSE IT KEPT KICKING THE PEDAL BACK WITH NO BRAKING CONTROL WHATSOEVER. SHE HIT A GUARD RAIL AND AS THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED A PIECE OF METAL INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSED APPROX A 1 1/2 INCH TEAR IN THE SIDE OF THE AIR BAG CAUSING TO NOT INFLATE AND CAUSING DAMAGE TO HER NECK SEVERALLY TO THE POINT WHERE SHE NEEDS SURGERY NOW TO HAVE CERVICAL VERTEBRAE FUSED TOGETHER AND EXTREME SHOULDER PAIN AND UNSURE OF THE CAUSE FOR THAT NOW. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, BLINKERS, 4-WAYS, BRAKE LIGHTS, AND TAIL LIGHTS WENT OUT AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO PULL OVER THE ENGINE STALLED. THE ENGINE STARTED BACK UP TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STALLED AGAIN WITH NO WARNING. THE TRUCK NOW STALLS AT ALL STOP LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS AND IS NOT GIVING ANY CODES. THE TRUCK NOW HAS A LARGE DRAW AND KILLS THE BATTERY SHORTLY AFTER TURNING THE TRUCK OFF. THE TRUCK IS STILL IN THE SHOP AND SO FAR THE FCM, PDC AND SOME WIRING HAS BEEN REPLACED BUT THE POWER DRAW PERSISTS AND THE ENGINE STALLING STILL PERSISTS. I HAD JUST STOPPED MY TRUCK IN FRONT OF MY GARAGE AND, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, SHIFTED INTO THE PARK GEAR POSITION. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AS IF I HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDDLE AND THE ENGINE LEAPED FORWARD THROUGH MY GARAGE DOOR. I HIT THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY AND CAME TO A SCREECHING STOP. I PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE BUT IT WOULD NOT ENGAGE. A NEIGHBOR CAME AND ASKED IF I NEEDED HELP. I ASKED HIM TO TRY BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE FOR ME. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT DROVE OVER A ROAD BUMP AND THE SHOCK BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOLTS NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED YET THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES. MY 2003 DODGE RAM 1500 WAS IN THE SHOP FOR AN A/C REPAIR WHEN THEY HAD TO REMOVE THE DASH BOARD. ABOUT 3 MONTHS LATER A SMALL CRACK APPEARED, FOLLOWED BY MANY MORE LARGER CRACKS. IN 2 DIFFERENT PARTS OF MY DASH BOARD. THE DASH BOARD CONTINUES TO SPIDER CRACK 9 MONTHS LATER. THE DEALER LOOKED AT IT EARLY ON AND NEVER CONTACTED ME BACK SAYING IT IS A PROBLEM W/ THESE TRUCKS. NOTHING THEY WILL DO ABOUT IT. TREATED ME AS IF IT WAS MY FAULT. BLAMED EVERYTHING FROM THE ELEMENTS, THE DESIGN, ME AND DIDN'T CARE TO HELP. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN BABIED AND HAS LESS THAN 60K MILES. I WAS GOING OVER A BRIDGE ON 144 IN TULSA OKLAHOMA WHEN I FELT MY RIGHT WHEEL STARTING SHAKING REAL BAD SO I STARTED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD , WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WHEEL JUST FELL OFF WITH THE BRAKE AND ROTOR INTACT. I HAD JUST PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE 2 WEEKS EARLIER AND ONLY HAD 43,000 MILES ON IT. I HAD TO GET A WRECKER TO TAKE IT TO A SPECIALIST IN BROKEN ARROW WHERE HE HAD A CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVE COME LOOK AT IT AND STATED THAT MODEL HAD A DEFECT IN IT AND SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPEN AT THAT MILEAGE. HUM/WHINING NOISE BECAME INCREASINGLY WORSE, LED TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE REAR END. DODGE ENGINEERS HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE REAR END IN THE 2003 DODGE RAM 1500 - 3500 TRUCK HAS AN ENGINEERING FLAW WHICH CAUSES THE "C" PINS IN THE REAR END TO BREAK OFF AND DESTROY THE REAR END. THIS DAMAGE HAS CAUSE SOME OF THESE VEHICLES REAR ENDS TO SEIZE UP AND OTHER TO LITERALLY SHEAR OFF THE REAR WHEELS. REPAIR CONSISTS OF TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR END IN THESE VEHICLES. WATERS WAS SEVERELY INJURED ON OCTOBER 22, 2008 AFTER PLACING THE AFORESAID VEHICLE IN PARK ON AN INCLINE, TURNING OFF THE ENGINE, AND EXITING THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN IN TO BE LOOKED AT BECAUSE THERE WAS A VIBRATION. I TOLD THEM IT WAS A U-JOINT OR BEARING GOING OUT. I TOKK IT TO ANOTHER PLACE, THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THE TIRES DID NOT NEED TO BE BALANCED,BUT THEY BALNCED THEM ANYWAYS. SO I HAD TWO OPINIONS ON THE TRUCK. THE NEXT NIGHT I PICKED UP THE GUYS I WORK WITH AND WE WENT TO WORK. ON THE WAY HOME THE DRIVE SHAFT, DRIVE LINE,YOLK, AND TRANSFERCASE CAME APART AND TRIED TO COME UP THROUGH THE FLOORBOARD, CAUSING HOLES IN THE FLOORBOARD, AND IT PULLED THE ELECTRICAL WIRING OUT WHICH CAUSED ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS TO COME ON. ANYONE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT. I GOT THE THE TRUCK TO A NEARBY CONVIENENT STORE AND I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TOW MY TRUCK TO THE SHOP. I CALLED MY WIFE AND WE WENT AND PICKED UP ALL THE PARTS OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE TRUCK, WHICH IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY TOOK PICTURES AND SENT THEM TO THEIR REPS. THEIR REPS IN ANOTHER STATE SAID IT WAS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE IN 4 LOW UNDER EXTENSIVE TORQUE IN A MUD HOLE. IT HAD NOT RAINED HERE IN OVER A MONTH. SO THE DIRT ROAD I WAS ON WAS DRY AND SMOOTH. I DID NOT HAVE IT IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. WHY BUY A 4 WHEEL DRIVE IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO USE IT. THEY SAID I WAS DRIVING FAST CAUSING EXTENSIVE TORQUE!? I WAS DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT AND PEOPLE DRIVE FAST AND THEIR VEHICLES DON'T FALL APART. THEY SAID THEY WOULDN'T COVER THE DAMAGE, EVEN THOUGH THEIR MECHANIC MADE A WRONG DIAGNOSIS. 10/25/02-BOUGHT NEW 2003 DODGE 1500 EXTENDED CAB. 11/26/02, ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT ON. DEALERSHIP SAID "CONNECTION AT CAB HAD WATER IN IT, AND DRIED OFF AND SEALED." 12/19/02, 3685 MILES, TOOK BACK BECAUSE OF ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ON. SHORT IN BRAKE SWITCH AND REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH. 12/20/02 RETURNED WITH ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT ON. BRAKE SWITCH AND REAR ABS SENSOR SHORTED. REPLACED BOTH SENSORS AND FOUND WATER IN THE WIRING CONNECTOR. DISCONNECTED, CLEANED, DRIED AND SEALED. RETURNED TO ME ON 12/24. 12/30/02, 4339 MILES, ABS/BRAKE LIGHTS ON/RPM SPIKED. 8-WAY PLUG HAD WATER IN IT. "CONTACTED STAR AND WAS TOLD TO CUT OUT PLUG AND SOLDER WIRES." TRUCK RETURNED TO ME ON 01/02/03. 01/24/03, 5864 MILES, ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON/SPEEDOMETER SPIKING AT IDLE. DEALERSHIP CHECKED CODES, CHECKED WIRING, REAR ABS SENSOR, CONNECTOR, ABS CONTROLLER CONNECTOR, CLEANED, SEALED CONNECTOR. TRUCK RETURNED TO ME ON 01/28/03. 08/20/03, 19775 MILEST, TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T KICK OUT OF PASSING GEAR UNTIL 80 MPH AND WHEN IT DID, MADE LOUD POPPING NOISE. DEALERSHIP SAID "TRANSMISSION NOT UPSHIFTING, FLASH PROGRAM TRANSMISSION CONTROL." 10/11/03, 23180 MILES, I WAS DRIVING, POWER STEERING PUMP CAME OUT AND CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL/RUN INTO DITCH. WOULD NOT GIVE ME A RENTAL-I HAD BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP. DODGE SAT ON THIS TRUCK FOR FIVE MONTHS LEAVING ME WITHOUT A VEHICLE, SAYING THAT THEY WERE SENDING AN INSPECTOR OUT TO LOOK AT IT, INSPECTOR WOULD BE THERE ANY DAY. DODGE WOULD NOT REPLACE BUMPERS AND DID NOT FIX/RETURN TO ME UNTIL 03/09/04. I OWN A 2003 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 QUAD CAB SLT VIN 1D7-HU18N53S-188168 ASSEMBLY POINT, WARREN, MICHIGAN. THE TRUCK STALLED WHILE IN TRAFFIC MAKING A 10-15 MPH RIGHT TURN. THE SECOND OCCURENCE WAS JULY15, 2004. VERY CLOSE CALL HERE. I WAS IN THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS CAMPING. THE SIX HOUR DRIVE HOME TOWING MY POPUP WAS NERVE RACKING TO SAY THE LEAST. ESPECIALLY, SINCE MY 13, 6 AND 3 YEAR OLD WERE IN THE TRUCK. I MENTIONED THAT THE TRUCK RUNS EXTREMELY ROUGH INTERMITTENTLY TO THE DEALER MORGAN DODGE DURHAM NORTH CAROLINA ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS. I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING AN INTERMITTENT SHUDDER THAT SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION, ALSO MENTIONED TO THE DEALER ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS. THE DEALER SIMPLY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE SHUDDER OR STALL. I ALSO HAD A SEVERE BRAKE PULSATION. THEY DID REPLACE FRONT PADS AND CALIPERS AND CUT ROTORS. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW UP WITH ME REGARDING THE SHUDDER AND STALL BUT AS OF THIS DATE, 7/18/2004 I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVE A CALL BACK.

WE BOUGHT OUR 2003 DODGE 2500 DIESEL RAM PICKUP ON JANUARY 25, 2003 WITH 10 MILES ON IT. WE NOTICED IT PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND ONCE IN AWHILE WOULD SHAKE A LITTLE, WE THOUGHT IT WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. ON APRIL 27, 2003 WE WHERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 80 MILES PER HOUR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK WAS VIOLENTLY SHAKING BACK AND FORTH. IT TOOK EVERYTHING MY HUSBAND HAD TO KEEP US ON THE ROAD. AFTER WHAT SEEMED LIKE AN ETERNITY HE WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER AND GET IT STOPPED. WE DECIDED TO TRY TO GET TO THE NEXT TOWN THAT WAS 20 MILES AWAY. TRAVELING AT 40 M.P.H. WITH OUR FLASHERS ON, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. MY HUSBAND CALLED THE TOW TRUCK, AND WE HAVEN'T SEEN OUR TRUCK SINCE! THE MECHANIC SAID A BOLT ON THE TRACK BAR MOUNT HAD COME LOOSE AND FELL OUT AND THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRONT AXLE. SPOKE TO THE MECHANIC TODAY AND THEY RECEIVED THE FRONT AXLE TODAY. NOW THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE BALL JOINTS, THEY HAVE BEEN ORDERED AND WILL TAKE ANOTHER COUPLE OF DAYS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO A COUPLE OF MECHANICS TODAY AND NONE OF THEM CAN FIGURE OUT WHY THE FRONT AXLE ALONG WITH THE BALL JOINTS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACE BECAUSE OF THE LOOSE TRACK BAR MOUNT. WHEN GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, AT TIMES ENGINE IDLES ROUGH AND RPM'S DROP TO ABOUT 350-400 RPM. APPROXIMATELY 75% OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS THE ENGINE QUITS. THE OTHER 25% OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS THE RPM'S INCREASE AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME (20SECONDS TO 1 MINUTE) AND IF STILL IN GEAR THE TRUCK WILL LURCH FORWARD WHEN RPMS INCREASE. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO INCREASE RPM'S DOES NOT AFFECT RPM'S WHEN ENGINE IS STUMBLING AND TRUCK WILL NOT MOVE. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, KNOWN PROBLEM WITH ENGINE PROGRAMMING. THAT IS WHEN THE "BRAND NEW TRUCK DIED" IT WAS DUE TO THE SAME REASONS SENSOR AND OTHER PROBLEM. IT HAD BEEN IN THE MOSS DODGE DEALERSHIP SINCE JUNE 13, 2003 . TODAY IS JUNE 20, 2003 WE HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM SINCE TUESDAY. AS WE WHERE DRIVING ON THE 10 FWY THE TRUCK DIED COMPLETELY WITH THE TRAFFIC BEHIND US IN THE FAST LANE ON THE FREEWAY. I BELIEVE THAT THIS TRUCK IS NOT REPAIRABLE. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS TO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS TRUCKS SENSOR WHICH GIVE THE POWER TO DRIVE.
