THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE HER INSURANCE COMPANY INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE AND FORWARD THEM THE REPORT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 54,000.

I WAS DRIVING AND WHILE TURNING ONTO BUSY INTERSECTION MY 1999 INTREPID ES 2.7 STOPPED. I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED REWIRING BUT THEN SENT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO HAVE THEM DISMANTLE MY ENGINE AND RETURN IT TO ME WITHOUT PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER SWEARING THAT EVEN IF THEY PUT IT BACK TOGETHER IT WON'T START. SO NOW 3 MONTHS AFTER PAYING MY CAR OFF. IT NEEDS ANOTHER ENGINE. NO WARNING SIGNS, IT JUST STOPPED AND WENT COMPLETELY DEAD. IT SEEMS TO ME THE DEALERSHIP DESTROYED MY ENGINE. REMOVED ALL TIMING BELTS AND EVEN BENT THE PLATE OF THE ENGINE INSTEAD OF CAREFULLY REMOVING BOLTS. I HAVE 5 KIDS AND NO CAR. NOW AM FORCED TO PURCHASE AGAIN. *TR

IT SEEMS THAT EVERY TIME WE DRIVE THE DODGE DURANGO WE HAVE IT STALLS WITHOUT ANY WARNING. ONCE THE TRUCK STALLS, THE STEERING GOES OUT AND SO DO THE BRAKES. IF WE GET OUT AND WIGGLE THE PLUG THAT IS CLOSEST TO THE FIRE WALL "SOMETIMES" THE TRUCK WILL START. HOWEVER, WE HAVE SAT AND SAT WAITING FOR THE TRUCK TO COOL DOWN ENOUGH FOR IT TO START AGAIN. WE HAVE EVEN HAD TO BE TOWED A FEW TIMES BEFORE WE KNEW THAT WE COULD WIGGLE THE PLUG, WHICH IS VERY VERY HOT. TODAY, AFTER MISSING A JOB INTERVIEW BECAUSE THE TRUCK ONCE AGAIN STALLED, WE STARTED LOOKING UP ON GOOGLE TO SEE WHAT, IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE AND HAPPENED TO FIND A WONDERFUL WEB SITE"AUTOBEEF". TL* - THE CONTACT IS EXPERIENCING A RECURRING INCIDENT, THE AIR AND THE HEAT OPERATES ONLY ON HIGH OR OFF, THERE IS NO WAY TO ADJUST THE TEMPERATURE. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY FOR THIS INCIDENT; HOWEVER, IT RECURRED WITHIN ONE WEEK OF THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT AND IS NOW STATING THAT THE INCIDENT MAY BE ENGINE RELATED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT A SQUEAKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER BRAKE AREA AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 35 MPH DURING DRY AND CLEAR ROAD CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ON 03/15/06 WHERE A BRAKE KIT, AND BRAKE SHOES WERE INSTALLED. HOWEVER, THE BRAKE PROBLEMS PERSISTED. ON 03/20/06, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES SOLENOIDS WERE BROKEN. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED AND A NEW BRAKE KIT AND SOLENOID WERE INSTALLED ON 04/25/06. THE BRAKE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES WERE ALSO RE-DONE ON 05/09/06. AFTER EACH REPAIRS AT THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, THE BRAKE PROBLEM RECURRED THEREFORE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 06/28/06. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAS REPAIR INVOICES AND FAILED PARTS AVAILABLE.

WHILE I WAS PARALLEL PARKING MY PASSENGER SAW HEAVY WHITE SMOKE AFTER I TURNED MY STEERING WHEEL SHARPLY. MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ALSO. MY PASSENGER AND I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CALLED 911. I BELIEVE I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF BEFORE GETTING OUT. THE SMOKE STARTED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND FLAMES WERE SEEN UNDER THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. INTERIOR FAN SWITCH FAILURE RE: DODGE STATUS 1999 THE FAN SPEED SWITCH IN THE DASH HAS LOST SPEEDS 1,2 AND 3. ONLY POSITION 4 (OR HIGH) WORKS. AFTER A VERY EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT SERVICE, IT FAILED AGAIN AROUND A YEAR LATER. AGAIN, IT ONLY BLOWS ON HIGH SPEED. UNTIL THIS MORNING WHEN MY ELDER DAD CALLED TO TELL ME HE NEED TO HAVE HIS SWITCH FIXED ON HIS DODGE CARAVAN 2003, I BEGAN TO WONDER HOW WIDE SPREAD THE ISSUE WAS. WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD TURN OFF THE ODOMETER WOULD SAY NO BUS AND CHECKED ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. TOOK DODGE DURAGO TO LOCAL DEALER SHIP TO GET CHECKED OUT AND THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM WOULDN'T SHOW UP ON THERE COMPUTERS. ITS CONSEQUENCES COULD BE THAT A LADY OR ELDER PERSON COULD BE DRIVING A DODGE DURANGO AND THIS HAPPENS TO THEM WELL YOU LOSE ALL POWER OF THE VEHICLE AND POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. 1999 DODGE DURANGO SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. CANNOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM AT DEALERSHIP, REPLACED NON-DEFECTIVE PARTS, NOW ABOUT TO REPLACE THE PCM TO SEE IF THAT IS THE PROBLEM. BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT IN THIS CAR, I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT BY A SEMI AS WELL AS ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE IT STOPS IN MID-TRAFFIC AND CAUSES NEAR-MISSES. I HAVE SPENT QUITE A BIT OF TIME ONLINE AND SEE THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AND DODGE HAS DONE NOTHING TO RECALL. I AM LOOKING INTO STARTING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST DODGE HERE OUT OF DENVER. MY LIFE IS TOO IMPORTANT, AND AS MANY COMPLAINTS AS THERE HAVE BEEN, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF A LONG TIME AGO! I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LES SCHWAB COMPANY FOR A LOOKOVER AND FOUND THAT IT NEEDED UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED, A STEEL ARM REPLACED, AS WELL AS AN ALIGNMENT. WHEN RESEARCHING RECALLS ON MY 1999 DODGE STRATUS I NOTICED THE PROBLEMS I WAS/AM HAVING WITH THE VEHICLE WERE NOTED IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS INVOLVING RECALLS OF OTHER STRATUS'. I ASKED WHY NOW 3 TIMES AND NO ANSWER EXCEPT A TAKE SURVEY. NO SERVICE OR REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE ON THIS CAR OTHER THEN TO FIND OUT THERE WAS 3 RECALLS AND NOW CUSTOMER CARE DOESNT WANT TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS CAR. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW ONE DAY THERE IS AND THE NEXT DAY CLAIM CLOSED. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS I AM A NEW OWNER. ONE RECALL IS FOR A FIX POWER STEERING HOSE SO CAR WONT CATCH FIRE. THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED BEFORE HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. I WAS IN MY 1999 DODGE STRATUS ALL OF MAYBE 15 MINUTES TRAVELING TO THE STORE. I TURNED IT OFF AND WENT IN THE STORE FOR MAYBE 5 MINUTES. ON DEC. 12, 2004 MYSELF, MY DAUGHTER , & HER STEP-DAUGHTER WERE ON OUR WAY TO GO SHOPPING APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES FROM HOME. WE STOPPED AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES AND ATE LUNCH, THEN CONTINUED THE OTHER 15 MILES. WE EXITED THE 1999 DODGE STRATUS AND ENTERED THE STORE. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 5-10 MINUTES, AN IN-STORE PAGE WENT OUT THAT A VEHICLE OF OUR DESCRIPTION WAS SMOKING BADLY. WHEN I LOOKED OUT THE STORE WINDOW, I SAW THE VEHICLE WAS MINE. I HAVE A 1999 DODGE DURANGO THAT HAS JUST DEVELOPED A PROBLEM. FOR SOME REASON THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE DRIVING. IT CAN BE ON A SIDE STREET DOWN A NARROW CANYON WHICH JUST HAPPENED TO MY WIFE (THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE FACT SHE LOST POWER STEERING AND HAD VERY LITTLE CHOICE FOR PULLING OVER). IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY ANOTHER VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR REASONS I DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN. DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR JOLTED, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR CAME TO A HALT. THERE WAS NEVER ANY WARNING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. ONCE TOWED, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ENGINE HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED A NEW ONE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS. THIS HAPPENED IN FLORIDA, SO THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED BACK TO OUR HOME IN SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE TUNE OF $1000.00. WE THEN HAD THE MECHANIC THAT WORKS ON THE CAR SEARCH FOR A SALVAGED ENGINE. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK, HE WAS ABLE TO LOCATE ONE AND PUT THAT IN THE CAR. THAT COST WAS ALMOST $3000.00. WE THEN STARTED EXPERIENCING ALL TYPES OF PROBLEMS...THE WINDOWS WOULDN'T WORK, THE ALTERNATOR WENT, THE BATTERY CONTINUED TO BE DRAINED. AFTER ALL THIS WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED, WE ARE OUT ALMOST $5500.00. THIS HAS INVOLVED A LOT OF TIME AND INCONVENIENCE TO OUR FAMILY SINCE THIS CAR IS THE PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR SON AT COLLEGE. HE HAS HAD TO TAKE ONE OF OUR CARS TO SCHOOL WHILE WE HAVE SPENT 3 MONTHS TRYING TO CORRECT ALL OF THESE ITEMS DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. IN TALKING WITH THE CHRYSLER HEADQUARTERS, THEY HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE ENGINE FAILURE SITUATION AND APPARENT "SLUG" IN THE LINES, HOWEVER, THEY HAVE NOT HEARD IT ENOUGH TO WARRANT A RECALL OR RE-IMBURSE THOSE OF US THAT HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS TO CORRECT THEIR PROBLEM. OUR BIGGEST CONCERN IS THAT THIS CAR HAS ALL THESE NEW PARTS AND SHOULD LAST OUR SON THROUGH THE NEXT 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE, HOWEVER, WHAT'S NOT TO SAY THIS COULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE SALVAGED ENGINE? THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES IS THAT THEY DO NOT STOP THE CAR. IT FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU HIT THE BRAKES THAT THE TRANSMISSION WON'T DISENGAGE. IT MAY NOT REALLY BE A DISENGAGEMENT PROBLEM BUT THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER BEEN GOOD AT STOPPING THE CAR. WHEN YOU HIT THE BRAKES THE CAR NOSEDIVES BUT FEELS LIKE IT WON'T STOP. IT IS LIKE YOU HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE SEAT AND STAND ON THE BRAKES. THE FEEL IS LIKE THE OLD BRAKES THAT HAD HEAT BUILD UP. YOU WOULD GET THAT OUTGASSING THAT WOULD RESIST PEDAL PRESSURE. THIS HAS RESULTED IN MANY NEAR ACCIDENTS AND FINALLY AN ACCIDENT. I ALSO DRIVE A PICK UP TRUCK AND THOSE BRAKES WORK MUCH BETTER. I BELEIVE THERE IS AN INHERENT DEFECT WITH THE BRAKES. IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE THERE IS A FRAME PROBLEM. I DON'T SEE HOW A LESS THAN 10 MPH ACCIDENT COULD CRUSH THE HOOD AND THE FRONT END TO OVER 2600 BUCKS OF DAMAGE. NO DAMAGE TO THE CAR I HIT EXCEPT FOR A COUPLE OF CHIPS IN THE PAINT ON THE BUMPER. *AK

ALSO, MICHELIN XW4 TIRES THAT COME WITH THE NEW MODEL IN 1999, WORE OUT REAL QUICKLY. IT NEVER REACH 60,000 MILES WARRANTY WHICH MICHENLIN "STATED IN WARRANTY". TOO MANY DEFECTS IN MICHELIN TIRES, WHEN I BOUGHT NEW CAR AFTER 2 MONTHS I HAD FLAT TIRE WIHTOUT ANY NAILS OR ANYTHING. THEN, AGAIN ANOTHER TIRE BLEW UP AFTER 8 MONTHS WITH 6 INCH HOLE IN TIRE. IN 1999 THE MANUAL SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTER WAS DROPPED ON ALL 99' DODGE STRATUS'S. A FIXED SEAT WAS INSTALLED. THE SEAT MANUFACTURED BY CHRYSLER'S VENDOR IS IN A VERY HIGH FIXED POSITION, SO HIGH THAT I AT 5FT 7INCHES TALL IS ONLY ABOUT 3 INCHES FROM THE ROOF LINER. MY SON AT 6FT 1INCH CANNOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE, HIS HEAD IS LITERALLY SQUASHED INTO THE HEAD LINER. I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE A SEAT TO BE MANUFACTURED THIS HIGH AS TO POSE A SAFETY HAZARD TO PEOPLE OVER 5FT 10. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRSYLER TWICE ON THIS MATTER TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE EVEN ASKED CHRYSLER IF THEY WOULD CHECK MY VEHICLE OUT AND MAYBE MY VEHICLE IS A ISOLATED INCIDENT, MAYBE THEY KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE SEAT. THE SEAT IS SO HIGH THAT WHEN THE SUN VISOR IS PULLED DOWN IT IS LOWER THAT THE DRIVERS HEAD THEREFORE POSING A SAFETY HAZARD. I EVEN WENT SOFAR AND ASKED CHRSYLER FOR A POWER SEAT AND I WOULD PAY THE DIFFERENCE, THEY DID NOT RESPOND. MY GIRL FRIEND CAME HOME AND SAID THE CAR WAS SMOKING SO I WENT TO LOOK AT IT AND YES SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE FIREWALL SIDE OF THE MOTOR RIGHT ABOVE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD .I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND A RECALL ON THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSE FOR THE POWER STEERING PUMP SO I CALLED THE NUMBER GIVEN AND CHRYSLER SET ME UP WITH HADDAD DODGE IN BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIA WE SET AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE DONE , I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THEM AND THEY KEPT IT FOR 4 DAYS I CALLED THEM ABOUT THE CAR AND THEY SAID IT WAS READY I PICKED IT UP LATER THAT AFTERNOON DROVE APPROX 6 MILES HOME IT WAS SMOKING SLIGHTLY BUT NO WHERE NEAR AS BAD AS BEFORE SO I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT , MAYBE JUST RESIDUAL FROM BEFORE THE REPAIR.THE FOLLOWING MORNING I DROVE FROM REAL RD TO FAIR VIEW AVE AND THE CAR WAS SMOKING HEAVILY I STOPPED IN FRONT OF A FRIENDS HOUSE OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A FIRE BURNING ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE ENGINE LUCKILY THERE WAS A GARDEN HOSE HOOKED UP OUT SIDE THE HOUSE , I GRABBED THAT AND PUT THE FIRE OUT . COULD SMELL FUEL HEAVILY PARKED THE CAR AND HAVE NOT MOVED IT SINCE JUST A WEEK AGO ABOUT A MONTH AFTER ALL THIS HADDAD DODGE LEFT ME A MESSAGE SAYING THAT MY PARTS HAD COME IN AND THEY WOULD LIKE TO SET AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE WORK TO BE DONE . I HAVE HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE IN THE ONE YEAR I HAVE OWNED IT. IVE SPOKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REFUSED TO ASSIST. I MOST RECENTLY HAD AS BAZZAR EXPERIENCE THE DAY I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET MY HOUSE KEY . MY KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION AS I WAS REMOVING KEY, I FET A MILD SHOCK TRAVELING THROUGH MY ARM THEN INTO MY WATCH WHICH MAINTAINED A VIBRATION FOR A LOG TIME AND EVENTUALLY CAUSING IT TO NEVER WORK AGAIN THIS WAS AN ODD OCCURENCE BECOUSE I WAS NOTICING OTHER STARANGE THING IN THE VEHICLE .SUCH AS MY ODOMETER SUDDENLY ACCUMULATING MIALEAGE AT A UNBELIVABLE RATE PRIOR TO MY SCHEDULED REPAIR APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP, (FOR AN OIL LEAK) THAT ENDED UP BEING A BLOWN HEAD GASKET(THAT INCEDENTLY WAS NOT UNDER WARRENTY) BECOUSE OF THE MILAGE. ) FIRST THEY CLAIMED I WAS 200 MILES OVER THEN SOMEONE SAID 14 BUT WAS FINALY RECORDED AS 7 TO PORTFOLIO (MY EXTENDE WARRANTY PROVIDER.) PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT I INFORMED THE SERVICE WRITTER OF THE ODOMETER OCCURENCE AND OF A BUZZING SOUND I HEARD IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND OTHER ELECTRICAL EXPERIENCES. ALL OF WHICH WERE JUST BRUSHED OFF. FURTHERMORE, PLEASE NOTE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE WARRANTY MIALEGE WHEN I MADE THE APPOITMENT AND I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT IT HAD TO BE UNDER THE MIALEGAE WHEN IT ARRIVED. (ACTUALLY I DO BELIEVE I WAS UNDER THE MILEAGE WHEN I ARRIVED) SO I ENDED UP PAYING OUT OF MY OWN POCKET APPROX 400.00 DOLLARS. ONLY TO HAVE MY AIR BAGS DEPLOY SUDDENLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WHICH I FEEL CAUSED ME TO HIT THE CENTER ISLAND OF A BUSY STREET, SUDDEN FACING ON COMMING TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO MANOUVERE THE CAR OVER ANOTHER CURB TO A SAFE AREA. NOW MOSS BR DODGE IN SAN BERNARDINO REUSES TO EXCEPT RESPONSIBLITY EVEN AFTER I HAD COPLAID ABOUT THE STRANGE BUSSING SOUNF THAT COULD BE HEARD IN THE STEERING WHEEL MONTHS BEFORE THIS HAPPENDED. ALL THROTTLE (GAS PEDAL) MOVEMENT, ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION IS FOLLOWED BY A < SECOND APPLICATION OF FULL POWER OR FULL DECELERATION, FOLLOWED BY THE REVERSE APPLICATION OF FULL DECELERATION OR FULL POWER, RESPECTIVELY, UNTIL THE COMPUTER FIGURES OUT WHAT TO DO. AT NO LOAD, E.G. CRUISING AT 65 MPH, ESPECIALLY ON A SLIGHT SLOPE, THE COMPUTER NEVER FIGURES OUT WHAT TO DO. THE WHOLE SYSTEM GOES INTO OSCILLATION, WITH < SECOND ALTERNATE APPLICATIONS OF FULL POWER THEN FULL DECELERATION, THEN FULL DECELERATION, FOR AS LONG AS A CONSTANT THROTTLE POSITION IS MAINTAINED. IN ALL CASES, THE ENGINE WINDS UP ON ITS RUBBER MOTOR MOUNTS WITH A THUMP THAT CAN BE FELT THROUGHOUT THE CAR. THIS IS SO SEVERE THAT THE SHOP SUPERVISOR AT THE DEALER WAS GOING TO TRY REPLACING THE MOTOR MOUNTS. *AK
