I OWN A 2003 DODGE STRATUS COUPE IN WHICH THE DASHBOARD IS WARPING AND COMING A LOOSE. I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN 2008 IN GREAT CONDITION, HOWEVER AFTER OWNING IT FOR A FEW MONTHS THE DASHBOARD STARTED PULLING AWAY FROM THE SPEEDOMETER, THE AIR CONDITION VENTS AND OTHER PLACES ON THE BOARD. JUST RECENTLY, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO SPREAD AND NOW THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT HAS STARTED UNHINGE ITSELF. THIS HAS BECOME VERY UNSETTLING BECAUSE I AM AFRAID THAT THE AIRBAG WHICH IS ONLY A FEW INCHES ABOVE THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT WILL EVENTUALLY DEPLOY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT THAT SEVERAL OWNERS OF CAR ARE FACING THE SAME PROBLEM. NOT MENTION, I HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT A WHITE FILM APPEARS ON THE INTERIOR OF THE WINDOW ABOVE THE DASH WHICH CAUSES A GLARE AND A IMPAIRMENT WHEN I DRIVE. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY WIPE AND CLEAN THE INSIDE WINDOW WHEN I DRIVE IN ORDER TO SEE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN CONDENSATION BUILDS UP ON THE INSIDE. AND THE CONDENSATION BUILDS UP BECAUSE THE DASHBOARD HAS FLIPPED UP TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CONSTANTLY WIPE THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AS IF I'M A HUMAN WIPER BLADE. *TR

I OWN A 2003 DODGE STRATUS COUPE(ENGINEERED BY MITSUBISHI) AND MY CLEAR COAT HAS STARTED TO FADE LEAVING WHITE SPOTS ON THE TOP OF MY CAR RIGHT BEHIND THE SUNROOF. IT HAS ALSO STARTED TO FADE ON THE TRUNK OF MY VEHICLE AS WELL. THIS ISSUE ONLY SEEMS TO BA HAPPENING TO THE CARS MANUFACTURED WITH BLACK PAINT. OTHER CARS I HAVE SEEN WITH THIS PROBLEM ALSO MANUFACTURED BY MITSUBISHI ARE 1995-2000 CHRYSLER SEBRING COUPE, DODGE AVENGER COUPE, MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE, MITSUBISHI GALANT. ALSO, 2001-2005 DODGE STRATUS COUPE, CHRYSLER SEBRING COUPE, MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE AND GALANT. THE CONDITION WORSENS OVER TIME AND EVENTUALLY START TO GO DOWN THE A,B AND C PILLAR AND HOOD OF THE CAR. AGAIN THIS IS ONLY WITH THE BLACK PAINT. THIS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE BLACK PAINT ON THESE CARS AND AS THE OWNER OF ONE I WOULD LIKE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT IT. *TR

BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS RECALL. THEY FAILED AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING ME TO COMPLETE AN ALMOST 1,000 DOLLAR REPAIR FOR REPLACEMENTS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 DODGE STRATUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE BALL JOINT FAILED, CAUSING THE WHEEL TO MOVE 45 DEGREES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONSIDERED AN ANOMALY. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BALL JOINT HIMSELF. ONE YEAR LATER, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE BALL JOINT FAILED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BALL JOINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000. UPDATED 3/27/13

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 DODGE STRATUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED ONCE BEFORE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BOLT JOINT WAS FRACTURED. AS A RESULT, THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND CV AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

TALKED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST AT LEAST $80 WORTH OF "INVESTIGATIVE WORK" TO MAKE SURE IT WAS A CLOCK SPRING (WHICH I COULD TELL THE SECOND IT HAPPENED). I HAVE A 2003 DODGE STATUS COUPE THAT HAS TWO COILS ON THE TOP OF THE SPARK PLUGS. I HAVE HAD THEM REPLACED 3 TIMES WITH A 4TH DUE SOON. THE PROBLEM STARTS WITH THE ENGINE MISFIREING SOME, THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COMES ON AND I LOOSE TWO CYLENDARS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 DODGE STRATUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT ABNORMAL SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE REPAIR WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $4,000. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS 2.7L WITH SIX CYLINDERS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. HE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS REFERRED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 95,000.

RELIABLE MECHANICS REFUSED TO CHANGE THE OIL ON MY 2003 DODGE STRATUS BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ENGINE WHICH HAS ONLY 47,200 MILES ON IT.MECHANICS STATE THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE AND SLUDGE BUILD UP, AND IT IS LIKELY TO NEED REPAIRS OF THE ENGINE, RANGING FROM $3,000 AND UP, SOON. AS I'VE DONE SOME INVESTIGATING, I HAVE SEEN THIS AS A MAJOR PROBLEM. WE ARE FAITHFUL WITH OUR OIL CHANGES, AND FEEL THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ENGINE AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE THREE CHILDREN AND I HAVE BEEN READING THAT THESE ENGINES JUST DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH NO WARNING. DODGE WILL HAVE A MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM IF SOMEONE GETS KILLED BECAUSE OF THEIR CARELESSNESS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 DODGE STRATUS. THE CONTACT PAID $349 FOR A FUEL INJECTOR REPLACEMENT. AFTERWARDS, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A TUNE UP. A YEAR LATER, THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL GAUGE DIAL CONTINUES TO SHIFT TO EMPTY ONCE FUEL IS PLACED IN THE VEHICLE. SHE HAS MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO REACH CHRYSLER, BUT HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FUEL INJECTOR, BUT SHE DOES NOT KNOW IF IT PERTAINS TO HER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

TL* - THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT TRANSMISSION FAILURES ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO. THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND IT WAS NOT ACCELERATING PROPERLY WHEN GOING UP A HILL. IT WAS DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITH 5 TRANSMISSION CODES. ON SEVERAL OCCASION PRIOR TO THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE DURING REGULARLY SCHEDULE MAINTENANCE THERE WAS DIAGNOSTIC TESTING PERFORMED HOWEVER THE TEST SHOWED NO TRANSMISSION CODES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.

THE DEALERSHIPS TRANSMISSION PERSON HAD THE VEHICLE BROUGHT IN AND CHECKED IT OUT AND VERIFIED WHAT THE SERVICE MANAGER THOUGHT IT WAS. THEY CALLED CHRYSLER STAR ONLINE. THEY STATED THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL TRANSAXLE OPERATION AND NOISE. THEY WOULD NOT LET THE SERVICE PEOPLE FIX THE CAR. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT ONE YEAR. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF CHRYSLER. THE CAR INCREASED IN NOISE AFTER 35 MPH. I HAVE 2003 DODGE STATUS WITH THE 2.4L 4 CYLINDER ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. AFTER COMING BACK FROM A TRIP, MOST OF WHICH WAS AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE ENGINE SPEED SUDDENLY JUMPED FROM IDLE SPEED TO 2000 RPMS. THE CAR LUCHED FORWARD CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AT THE NEXT 2 STOPS THE ENGINE SPEED JUMPED FROM IDLE SPEED TO 1400 RPMS. FOR THE NEXT WEEK THE PROBLEM DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN DURING NORMAL AROUND TOWN DRIVING. THE DAYS THE ENGINE ACTED UP THE MOST WERE VERY HOT. THE TEMPERATURES WERE 128 AND 124 DEGREES. The problem is not with the tire itself, but with the lug nuts holding the tire on the car. In the past year I have had at least six lug nuts fail. I have had a rash of flat tires, mostly related to nails. In attempting to remove the tires to put on the spare, the chrome caps on the nuts have come off. In the first incident, I was able to strip the cover off the internal nut by hand. In attempting to remove the internal nut, the softer metal was stripped. I was forced to drive on a flat tire home to try and remove the rest of the nut. I had to call a tow truck to haul my car into the shop where they had to cut off the nut. I can document this and three other occasions of the lug nuts being stripped when trying to remove a bad tire. I can document an occasion when the shop replaced two faulty nuts when repairing one of my tires. In the most recent occasion, I was able to remove the tire. However, when handling the lug nuts the chrome cap came off in my hand. I am able to strip these caps and nuts by hand using an "X" lug wrench, which I had to buy because the wrench that came with the vehicle twisted out of shape while trying to remove the lug nuts. The shop is aware of this problem, and they keep putting these defective lug nuts back on. At my age, it is inconceivable that I would be able to strip these caps and lug nugs by hand. I have the documents, I can get you pictures, but I am not a computer whiz and am currently having problems getting my printer to link up with my PC to download files to send. I will have a family member copy this information and email it to me so I can attempt to send it to you with your reply.

THE DASH IN MY CAR SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT IT STATED COMING APART. IT HAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE DEFROSTER. IN ADDITION, ALL OF THE VENT COVERS, ECT. NO LONGER ARE SECURE. THE ENTIRE DASH AND COMPONENTS ARE IN HORRIBLE CONDITION.. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED IN THE WARRANTY WHICH WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER. IN`ADDITION MY DEFROSTER IS HORRIBLE. WHEN YOU HAVE IT IN FLOOR MODE IT BLOWS ON THE WINDSHIELD AND IT FOGS UP CONSTANTLY. THE ELECTRICAL COMPONETS GO CRAZY EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, NO POWER TO THE CAR ECT. HAVE TO TURN CAR ON AND OFF AND FEW TIMES AND THEN IT WILL BE FINE. ONE OF MY WIPERS CAME LOOSE AND I HAVE TO KEEP A WRENCH IN MY CAR AT ALL TIME IS CASE I NEED TO TIGHTEN IT IN THE MIDDLE OF A RAIN STORM. IT WILL FALL RIGHT OFF AND THE METAL WILL BE DRAGGING ACROSS MY WINDOW. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH DETERMINED THE SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE POWER STEERING PUMP LEAKED CAUSING THE FAILURE.

AFTER HAVING MY TRANSMISSION LINES REPAIRED DUE TO A LEAK I DECIDED TO TAKE MY CAR OUT ON A TEST DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. WELL COMING INTO TOWN I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN FROM 65 MPH TO 55 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT SLOW IT DOWN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. FEARING FOR MY LIFE I BEGAN TO GENTLY PULL THE EMERGENCY BREAK WHICH SLOWED ME DOWN TO ABOUT 20 MPH IN WHICH I TOOK A TURN INTO A PARKING LOT. WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE CAR STOPPED IT JERKED FORWARD AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO APPROX 600,000 RPMS. IT STAYED LIKE THAT (PARKED AT HOME) UNTIL SEVERAL DAYS LATER WHEN THE DEALERSHIP WAS FINALLY ABLE TO CHECK INTO IT AND HERE IS WHAT THEY "CLAIM". SOMEHOW BETWEEN THE TIME THEY HAD IT AND THE FEW HOURS THAT I HAD DRIVEN IT SINCE I HAD IT BACK, THEY CLAIM THAT I BROKE THE COVER TO THE IDLE AIR TEMP SENSOR AND THAT IT BECAME LODGED IN THE AUTOMATIC IDLE SPEED MOTOR AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO IDLE DOWN. NOW WHAT CONCERNS ME IS EXACTLY HOW CAN I BREAK THAT COVER? I AM NEVER UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR UNLESS I CHECK FLUIDS. THE COVER TO THAT THING IS EXTREMELY THICK. I BELIEVE THAT THE MECHANIC BUSTED IT WHEN HE WAS WORKING ON THE TRANSMISSION BUT THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT GUILT. ALSO I HAVE HEARD A CRUNCHING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR END IN THE COLD WEATHER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE REAR CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS ARE DRIED AND CRACKED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAR IS NOT EVEN 3 YEARS OLD. WHY AM I HAVING SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS AND PUTTING MORE MONEY INTO IT THEN IT'S WORTH? IT'S NOT FAIR. AND YES I KEEP UP WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON IT. I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD THAT RIDES IN THE CAR REGULARLY WITH ME. SHE COULD OF BEEN HURT OR KILLED. *JB

DT: THE CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP AND REPAIR SHOP SEVERAL TIMES FOR A SQUEAKING NOISE THAT CAME FROM THE LEFT DRIVER'S SIDE BY THE WHEEL. THE SOURCE OF THE SQUEAKING NOISE WAS UNKNOWN. THE ENGINE, A CALIBER TO THE STEERING WHEEL, AIR CONDITIONING, BRAKES, AND THE FLYWHEEL WERE REPLACED. THERE IS A STILL A SQUEAKING NOISE AND CONSUMER DOES NOT KNOW WHERE IT I COMES FROM. THERE IS A LOUD POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. THE DEALER HAS ATTAMPTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ATLEAST 4 TIMES. THE LAST TIME THEY TRIED THEY ATTEMPTED TO FIX ALL FOUR WHEELS, EVEN THOUGH II ONLY STATED A NOISE FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL, NOW THE REAR WHEEL POPS REALLY LOUD OVER PUMPS AND IN TURNS. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURE AND SO FAR THEY HAVE NOT CALLED ME BACK. IN ADDITION TO THIS, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER FIXED TWICE, A NEW RADIO PUT IN, SINCE THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN THERE MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS DONT WORK, WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR MY HEAD LIGHTS DIDNT WORK, AND THE VALVE COVER GASKET REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING OIL. THE VALVE COVER GASKET WAS FIXED ONLY FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE SAME PROBLEM OF A LACK OF HORSEPOWER RETURNED. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST EVERYTIME I DROP MY CAR OFF TO THE DEALER, THEY KEEP IT FOR 2-3 WEEKS AT A TIME. ONE TIME THEY EVEN PUT 200 MILES ON MY CAR BEFORE THEY WOULD RETURN IT.*AK

I PURCHASED A 2003 DODGE STRATUS COUPE. FROM DATE OF PURCHASE, THE PASSENGER WINDOW DID NOT SEAL PROPERLY. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO BE REPAIRED 3 TIMES BY THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM. HOWEVER, AFTER 3 TIMES, THEY WERE UNABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DODGE DEALER, WHICH REQUIRED 2 MORE ATTEMPTS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, REQUIRING A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE WINDOW GLASS. I BOUGHT MY DODGE STRATUS IN FEB. OF 2004, IT IS A 2003. SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES DUE TO THE MOTOR IN THE WINDOW GOING OUT, THE AIR CONDITIONING GOING OUT, THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OUT, THE CD PLAYER IS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY AND NOW THE SAFETY FEATURE (AIR BAG SYSTEM) IS FAILING AS WELL. I HAVE OWNED OTHER CARS IN THE PAST WITH HIGHER MILES THAN THIS VEHICLE AND I NEVER HAD THE PROBLEMS THAT I AM HAVING WITH THIS ONE. I AM UPSET WITH THIS VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT BUYING A NEWER CAR WITH LOW MILES SHOULD LEAVE THE BUYER FEELING HAPPY AND SAFE WITH THEIR DECISION. HOWEVER, I AM NEITHER HAPPY WITH THIS VEHICLE AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE KNOWING NOW THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS FIXED MOST OF THE PROBLEMS SO FAR (THEY ARE UNABLE TO GET THE AIR BAG SYSTEM LOOKED FOR A FEW DAYS...SO MUCH FOR SAFETY MATTERS!).
