I am reporting a safety-related engine defect on my 2019 Ford Escape (2.0L EcoBoost). On September 23, 2025, at 72,233 miles, the engine failed due to coolant leaking into the combustion chamber (cylinder #3). Ford’s own dealer confirmed coolant intrusion and referenced Ford TSB 22-2239. This issue is associated with known EcoBoost coolant-intrusion failures documented in multiple Ford bulletins and class-action suits. The engine failure required a complete long-block replacement costing $8,644.38. Ford denied assistance despite the failure occurring within the extended 7-year/84,000-mile coverage window under Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12. Coolant intrusion can cause sudden engine failure, stalling, loss of power, or inability to accelerate, creating a hazardous driving condition. I request NHTSA review this defect as part of the widespread EcoBoost coolant-intrusion problem. Owner: [XXX] , [XXX] . VIN: [XXX] . COOLANT WATER INTRUSION INTO THE CYLINDER BLOCK. COOLANT INTRUSION DUE TO MANUFACTURE DEFAULT. LONG BLOCK NECESSARY TO COMPLETE REPAIR. REPAIR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. OBD WARNING CODE P303 SUGGESTED CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE. COOLANT LEVEL WAS NOTED TO BE LOW. VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP PROMPLY. AFTER DEALER INSPECTION COOLANT WATER INTRUSION WAS FOUND. IF THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT DIAGNOSED EARLY IT COULD'VE CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING.

Crash: 1
On returning from vacation, the check engine light came on. Pulled vehicle into auto parts store for a computer diagnosis's, computer said spark plug issue. Took the vehicle next day to my technician for diagnosis's and repair. The mechanic had difficulty removing the Number two(2) spark plug. After using light and scope to examine the interior of the number two(2) cylinder, traces of coolant was found inside to cylinder. The mechanic researched it online and said there was a problem with the 2000 teen model Ford Escapes with a crack in the engine block. I took the car three weeks later to the Ford dealership where the vehicle was purchased from because the SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT NOW came on. I was told there was nothing they could do and I was asked to leave. One of the other personnel that worked at the dealership overheard our conversation and stepped in and told his coworker that even though we were over on the recall mileage for this issue we were still inside of the seven year window for the recall. I was given the Ford Customer Service toll free number to report this issue, and was told not to tell anyone where or how I got that number and would you be so nice and leave and take the vehicle with you.

2019 Ford Escape 1.5L EcoBoost. 74,000 miles. Check engine light came on out of nowhere. Had auto shop read the code and it was a misfire of cylinder 3 and needed ignition coil and spark plug replaced. A few days later the message "High Engine Temperature, Stop Safely" came on and the engine temperature shot up to High. Pulled over and let it cool down. Started driving it again and it shot back up to High again. Took the car to a mechanic who did a compression test and said that the coolant ran green which meant the coolant is infiltrating the cylinders. Per another mechanic this is a known problem with 2019 Ford Escapes that the engine is a open deck block that allows the cylinders to move and be unstable. Ford knows this problem but never put a recall out!

Ford has an issue where the coolant leaks into the cylinder blocks ruining the engine. Also, cause for low coolant which could catch the engine on fire.
Nov 28, 2025
Took my 2019 Ford Escape in for oil change and tune up. Couple days after tune up check engine light came on (cylinder 3 misfire) and vehicle overheated. Got vehicle back to local repair shop and discovered coolant intrusion in cylinder 3. Overheating of engine left me stranded in traffic, as there was no shoulder, only a guard rail on side of the road. Could have easily been rear ended. Luckily about to minutes later, the police arrived behind me and waited with lights on until tow truck arrived. Engine code P0303. Ford has issued a TSB (22-2322), so they are aware of the problems with the 1.5L EcoBoost engine. My Escapehas all the symptoms listed on the TSB and build date is within the manufacture dates shown on the TSB

The vehicle all of a sudden started saying there was a misfire on cylinder 1. So the ca was taken in for a tune up. Coil packs and spark plugs were changed. The vehicle was then losing coolant with no sign of a coolant leak externally. The coolant began leaking into the engine through a weakened gasket caused by the misfire. That should not of happened. The car had been marked as having various repairs prior to purchase at ford dealerships on such parts.

The engine continually misfires, forcing me to continually get it fixed. Now, with only 68,000 miles I have to replace the head gasket ($4000), which my mechanic states is an extremely common problem with this make, model, and year. I also continually get notices to my Ford app about “fault detected—service engine soon” (for the misfire) and “a power train or AWD fault has been detected”.

TIRE SIZE: 235/50 R18 I was driving on the highway at approx 65 miles per hour in the far left lane when I heard a loud POP and then my car started driving weird. No warning lights came on in my vehicle prior to. I pulled over as soon as I safely could and when I stopped and got out. I realized it was my passenger rear tire that exploded. I called AAA and they put on my spare. The next day I was able to get my vehicle to an NTB. The associate there told me that my front passenger wheel also had side wall damage and that’s likely what caused my passenger tire to pop. He commented that my tread was really good on all my tires so it wasn’t the cause. Because it was two tires that needed changing I was recommended to change all four tires for safety reasons.

My wife was broke down alone in an isolated area. - I took the tire to Twin State Ford in St Johnsbury VT where it was looked at by the service department. He commented that the sidewalls of the other tires were cracking. He confirmed there was a safety recall on the tires for the year make and model that matched my car but he said my VIN number was not included. Ford number 21S10 recall date 2021-03-09 - A few seconds before the tire blew out the low tire light came on. Simply put, the headlights repeatedly blow out with no apparent reason found. Bulbs have been changed multiple times personally and by professionals -- both headlights went out nearly simultaneously in September of 2024 and I replaced the bulbs myself, assuming it was a fluke or the bulbs had simply aged out. At the beginning of March, 2025, the passenger-side bulb went out again and I brought it to my dealership to get checked out. They couldn't find anything wrong, and I had them replace the bulb again. Now, for the third time since I bought the vehicle in April or May of 2024, I have to replace the passenger-side bulb again. I'm returning to the dealership to see if there's anything else to look for, but a quick internet search shows that there are lots of others experiencing this same problem without any kind of solution in sight. This is obviously not normal.

There is something wrong with either the bcm, headlight assembly, or headlight wiring harnesses. My low beam headlight bulbs only last about 6 months and then they go bad. I have tried using OEM bulbs, sylanvia bulbs, and led bulbs and have the same result = replacing within 6 months! This causes a severe safety issue as I lose visibility from a headlight. This issue is well documented all over the Internet and no one has been able to find any answers, except for a couple people being able to just use OEM bulbs and replace yearly.

I have a 2019 Ford escape. I’ve replaced the lightbulbs on both sides several times. The housing has burned out several times not just the bulbs. Twice they have burned out at the same time. The 2019 and the 2017 have the same light fixtures. The 2017 headlights were recalled. I contend that my car should be covered under the recall. I’ve called two local Ford dealers both are familiar with my problem and have told me there’s recall “yet”.

The contact's brother owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH at night, the headlights became inoperable. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the headlight module failed to operate as needed and the contact was forced to drive to the residence without headlights. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer on three separate occasions to be repaired. On the first visit, the dealer replaced the battery and the headlight bulbs. The second visit, the dealer replaced the BCM (Body Control Module) and two other light bulbs that were not initially replaced. On the third visit, the headlight switch was replaced. Despite each repair, the headlight failure persisted. The contact was recently informed by the dealer that the wiring harness needed to be replaced; however, the dealer could not guarantee that the repair would fix the headlight failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The VIN was not available.

What component has failed and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine is failing due to coolant intrusion. This is a known issue that can lead to engine fires and failure whilst driving. This problem is reproduce able. The dealership has inspected the issue however it is intermittent and did not occur while they checked. CEL does come on for the issue and first appeared in early 2025.

Engine has failed and in need of full replacement at 123k miles. Vehicle was manf’d in 2019. While driving the vehicle, it can experience a complete loss of power and extremely poor acceleration resulting in a major safety issue on higher speed roads, causing the driver to be unable to avoid potential safety risks that may present. The dealer and manufacturer are both aware of the defect, but failed to issue a recall. The issue is a known design flaw with the engine, which allows coolant intrusion into the 2bd cylinder.

Dashboard message "power steering assist failure - service required" appeared when vehicle was started. It worked fine the day before. We drove it to a local car repair place which advised they did not know what caused the problem and recommended we take it to Ford dealer. We drove it about 30 miles to the Ford dealer, with difficulty since there was no power steering. The dealer says it needs new steering gear (rack and pinion). The cost is about $3000.
Jan 02, 2025
After the steering wheel became SIGNIGICANTLY stiff and a warning light come on when trying to pull out of a parking space, I called a tow truck. The driver was able to turn on the Escape and we had no problems with steering. After I had a mechanic examine the vehicle, he said the issue is the electronic rack with the steering system. I did some research and Ford has been sued in the past for similar issues on this model, but not year. The estimated cost for repair is over $2000. I am told that with this particular steering system, a full replacement is required. I am also told that while it is drivable, the problem is unpredictable. It might be as simple as letting it sit (as it was in the parking lot) and restarting to as hard as the system giving out while driving and the wheel becoming so stiff to turn that it can put the driver and others at risk. From what I've read, others have experienced similar issues.

I was stopped in traffic on a local freeway at rush hour. The vehicle behind me was slowing to a stop. An SUV did not slow down and hit the vehicle behind me at approximately 60 mph. That vehicle was flipped when the SUV collided with it. The SUV collided with me, pushing my vehicle into a van in front of me and then sending my vehicle across 3 lanes of the highway. In the initial impact, my seat back was bent backwards and twisted from the initial impact. With the second impact, I was then thrown forward and my face hit the steering column and my right side and arm hit the center console. I was wearing my seatbelt. The cabin briefly filled with smoke which may have been from the engine failure. None of the airbag deployed.

While driving in traffic, the car suddenly lost power. Could not shift into neutral or park... Raised hood, put on hazard lights. Called AAA. About 20 minutes later, the car did start and was able to drive it to mechanic... The engine sputtered, the dashboard lights flashed on and off. Had it towed to Ford Dealership. Two weeks later, they could not diagnose or fix the problem. PS, the recall had been addressed when I had to replace the transmission when it suddenly quit in traffic.

1. The transmission "zooms" and revs higher as I'm breaking. I'm afraid that the gear will slip and I won't be able to stop - especially if it's icy on the road. 2. When the car is turned off completely, there's a mechanical sound that persists for 10min. It's not the water/cooling pump or the engine cooling down. It sounds like an ATM machine that's trying to dispense cash, but can't. I suspect this is draining the battery. 3. On my way to work yesterday, the key (and the spare key) were not recognized and I couldn't start the car. Lights came on, so I didn't think it was the battery. This morning, battery is dead. I really think it's a result of whatever is causing the sounds mentioned in #2 above. While #1 is a safety issue to myself and other motorists, the issues reported in #2 and #3 are personal safety concerns. I am a woman who commutes from gig to gig, traveling through sketchy neighborhoods, and parking in dimly lit public parking garages. If I cannot start the car or it goes dead, I could get mugged or physically hurt.

THE VEHICLE WILL OCCASIONALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK ITSELF AS IT IS BEING DRIVEN. AS IT LOCKS AND UNLOCKS ITSELF, IT BRIEFLY ACTIVATES THE HAZARD LIGHTS AS WELL. THE VEHICLE IS KEYLESS IGNITION, AND THE KEY FOB IS PLACED IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AREA WITH NOTHING CONTACTING IT. WHEN IT OCCURS, IT IS QUITE FREQUENT, AND SEEMS TO NOT BE AFFECTED BY MOISTURE, SPEED OR TEMPERATURE, NOR BY CITY OR HIGHWAY DRIVING.

Our BCM stopped working the first sign was both of our head lights randomly would not turn on. This was confirmed by two other mechanics and the ford service center had to replace the entire thing. The second part the fail was part of the engine. Something happened where we were told coolant was in our cylinder number 3 and they want to replace the entire engine with no symptoms other then low coolant levels because they stated it is a risk of fire.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled with several warning lights illuminated. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was discovered that an electrical spike had burned out several electrical sensors. The dealer replaced the alternator to correct the failure; however, the failure returned nearly a week after the repair. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where a short in the electrical wiring harness was found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer unrepaired. The failure mileage was 59,512.

WHILE DRIVING A LOCAL INTERSTATE BETWEEN 60 AND 70 MPH, OUR NEWLY PURCHASED (3,000 MILES) 2019 FORD ESCAPE SEL SPORT COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. LUCKILY, MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND PULL OFF THE ROAD WHILE TRAFFIC WAS WHIZZING BY US AT BREAKNECK SPEED. TURNS OUT THAT PART OF THE WIRING HARNESS HAD EITHER LOOSENED ON ITS OWN OR WAS NEVER PROPERLY SECURED FROM THE FACTORY. SO, THE SERPENTINE BELT MANAGED TO CLIP THIS WIRING HARNESS WHICH, IN TURN, PULLED THE HARNESS FROM ITS SOCKET WHILE STARTING TO GRADUALLY SHRED THE SERPENTINE BELT. INSTANTANEOUS LOSS OF POWER WITHOUT WARNING CREATED A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN AND/OR ISSUE A RECALL ASAP SINCE IT WOULD ONLY TAKE ONE OTHER INCIDENT SIMILAR TO THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED, OR WORSE.

Bought 4 new tires from Costco Dec 2023. June 2024 tire rotation showed 5/32 and 6/32. after only 7K miles. Brought tires back to Costco and was told I had to wait to make a warranty claim until they are 2/32! This is forcing me to literally put my family's lives at risk. Finally in June 2025, after ONLY 17,312 miles driven the tires were at 3/32. Filed a warranty claim. Costco did the best they could, but in the end, I now have to buy new tires. I did receive ~$600 for the warranty claim but now have to spend another $432 PLUS an alignment. Total cost for now is $900 + $400 +200 (alignment). Not sure how other people view this, but I think I was completely ripped off. $1500 for new tires? REALLY? Tech stated that Bridgestone knows/knew these tires are/were problematic yet did nothing. These tires NEED TO BE RECALLED, the company investigated for deliberately putting peoples' lives at risk.

In the last six months fourteen of sixteen original equipment lug nuts have had to be replaced because they were "swollen". The dealer was able to do this work but I am concerned for the times when I was not having the vehicle serviced. What if I had had a flat tire and could not change the tire because of this issue? This would put me and the vehicle at risk to find a place of safety to replace the tire.
Oct 31, 2024
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle into the dealer for service, she became aware that the lug nuts had swollen. As a result, the dealer had to break the lug nuts to complete the service and required the contact to cover the cost of the replacement lug nuts. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 64,500. The VIN was unavailable.

I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AND NOW I HAVE A SMALL HOLE IN THE UPPER SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE HAS A LOT OF TREAD STILL LEFT ON THE TIRES ( 9/32). THE HOLE IS TO SMALL TO BE FROM ANY FOREIGN OBJECT ON THE ROAD. I NOW HAVE TO BUY NEW TIRE EVEN THOUGH I SEE YOU HAVE OPEN RECALLS ON OTHER FORD ESCAPE MODELS FROM THE SAME YEAR. THAT RECALL FOR THOSE MODELS ARE FOR SMALL HOLES IN THE TIRE DUE TO AN INCORRECT HEATING PROCESS AT THE MANUFACTURER.

Car has been experiencing the misfire in cylinder four. This is a known cause in the 1.5 L escapes. This is a 2.0 but it has the same issues not fair that they fixed 1.5 L and not the 2.0 causes a misfire due to coolant leaking into the cylinder burning coolant and then causing the motor to overheat. When that happens, you can be going on the highway and have an abrupt warning that causes the vehicle to drop to 20 mph without notice causing extreme safety concerns for just not the driver but anyone around especially on highways.

I drove this car off the lot with only 16k miles...by 28k miles...it required a new engine due to the known defect of coolant being leaked into the engine from the ceramic cylinders. 2 months later the car needed an alternator. I've been back and forth to the dealership and the costs are mounting. Just recently they wanted $1,500 for another repair. The car is unreliable and I still have over $16k left to pay on it. There are countless of other consumers online complaining about the same issues I am experiencing as well as a Class Action Law Suit against Ford in California for these ecoboost engines that I don't qualify for because I'm in Illinois. I just really need help with this matter because it's not getting better.

My vehicle is 2 yrs old and began having purge valve issues. Upon trying to fix the problem, I found that the part is on back order with no parts available anywhere in my region. Also while trying to locate the purge valve, part number: Gv6z9d289e, I found that several other people were also trying to locate the part indicating this is an issue in several vehicles. The vehicle vapor locks upon fueling possibly resulting in future engine damage.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the clamps used to secure the interior panel had failed and the door panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 50,000.

The driver's side rear door panel gets caught on the door frame and will only open a couple of inches unless force is used. The car has never been in an accident, and nothing has ever been shoved or forced against the door to cause this. There are MANY reports online of similar issues with the Escape (https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t66217_ds936400, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaP7DcfkJ9g, https://community.cartalk.com/t/ford-escape-door-trim-clips/179063, among others). This is a safety issue because if someone needs to enter or exit the back seat quickly, it is difficult or would be impossible if the person was physically injured or had a physical disability that limited their upper-body strength. The problem has been confirmed by a Ford dealer. I am not sure to what extent they "inspected" it. There was no warning or any other symptoms prior to the failure.

WHEN YOU HIT THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE LIFTGATE IT DOESN'T USUALLY LATCH. MANY TIMES I HAVE TO MANUALLY CLOSE IT BECAUSE WHEN I PUSH THE BUTTON THE LIFTGATE WILL CLOSE DOWN BUT IT WON'T LATCH. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER 2X. THE FIRST TIME THEY CONFIRMED THE ISSUE AND REPLACED A MECHANISM THAT CONTROLS THE LIFTGATE. THE PROBLEM CAME BACK LESS THAN 1 WEEK LATER. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK THEY CLAIMED IT ALWAYS LATCHED WHEN THEY TESTED, AND DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO IT. MEANWHILE, I TOOK IT HOME AND IT STILL WON'T LATCH WHEN I TRY TO CLOSE IT WITH THE BUTTON. VEHICLE IS ALWAYS OFF, PARKED, WHEN I TRY TO CLOSE THE LIFTGATE. THE ONLY ODD THING I NOTICED IS IF I KEEP THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR OPEN WHEN I PUT THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE LIFTGATE THEN FOR SOME REASON THE LIFTGATE LATCHES, PROBABLY 8/10 TIMES.

he freeway I notified future ford of concord and I was told I would receive a call back but as I recall I didn’t receive a call back. The car started acting as if nothing was wrong about a week or so later then two days ago December 13,2025 first my head lights went out and a message saying there’s a bulb outage or electrical issue appeared and also the hill assist unavailable warning light appeared , following the 911 calling assistance is unavailable as well, and I also noticed my radio is no longer producing sound so I believe the engine ( block , head gasket etc) component also electrical system, sync 3 system has also failed or malfunctioned. During the second occurrence I was driving as I was before which led to The safety of my children, my husband and myself put at risk being it was night time and I could no longer see the road the car acted as if it was turning off and slowing down.. yes there was warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem during the failures, and they first appeared at the exact time of the failures . WE WERE DRIVING ON A 3 LANE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT, STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. SUDDENLY, THE CAR WENT COMPLETELY DEAD - NO LIGHTS OR POWER. CARS DRIVING AT BETWEEN 40-50 MPH WERE COMING UP BEHIND US, BUT COULD NOT SEE US BECAUSE WE COULD NOT EVEN GET HAZARD LIGHTS ON. WE WERE LOCKED IN - THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN!! AFTER SEVERAL NEAR MISSES, WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A STRANGER STOP AND HE WAS ABLE TO ALERT ONCOMING CARS SO WE WOULD NOT GET HIT. ENDS UP THAT THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY WAS VERY LOOSE AS WELL AS THE SURROUNDING FASTENERS OF THE BATTERY. WE PURCHASED THE CAR 5 WEEKS EARLIER, BRAND NEW WITH 11 MILES ON IT. AFTER GETTING TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS AN EASY FIX, BUT MY SAFETY CONCERN WAS THE FACT THAT THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN!!! IF THERE WAS A FIRE, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED, AND WE COULD NOT GET OUT IN CASE WE WERE HIT BY THE VEHICLES COMING UP BEHIND US, WHICH CAME CLOSE A FEW TIMES!

Car operated fine until it suddenly started running rough, then lost power/accelleration while driving down a busy state highway. Ford Dealership found what the service manager called "catastropic engine failure, caused by coolant instrusion." He showed us the whole process of coolant corruption of our Ford Escape's engine -- and the engineering flaw that caused the intrusion. Service manager explained that our 2019 Ford Escape model was "the Problem Child of Ford Motor Company." The loss put our daughter, alone, stranded on the side of a 55 mph 2-lane highway in a car with only 57,000 miles. It put other highway drivers at risk as well. We had no warning that something was wrong with the car. The check engine light came on AT the time of the incident. That is, when the car started feeling rough and wouldn't accellerate, the check engine light came on Car and mechanics who repaired it are all available upon request. Also please see attached repair invoice from Richardson Ford.

My 2019 Ford Escape Eco Boost Titanium vehicle is currently loosing antifreeze at an alarming rate. I had the error codes read and I have four. The first, P0303, states cylinder #3 is misfiring. The second, P0141, says the heater in 02 sensor is taking too long to warm up. The third, P0016, states the camshaft position A correlates to bank 1 and finally, P04DB, says the crankcase ventilation system in the vehicle is disconnected. From what I have read online the system that is failing is that there is an engine coolant leak. I am fine providing the car for inspection upon request. The safety of myself and my family is at risk because should I not keep the coolant filled and full Ford states that the vehicle engine may overheat, catch fire, damage the pistons, and possible misfires while driving. I reported the issue to Ford via their social media link X (twitter) on March 16, 2025 but I will also be calling the Ford contact phone number tomorrow, March 17. I hope to have the vehicle or component inspected by the manufacturer soon but based on the complaints online I am one of many having this failure on my vehicle. My engine warning light came on about 2 months ago but when I had it read for error codes at that time it only stated the code, P0141, the heater in 02 sensor is taking too long to warm up. At that time I called Ford service to see how I could get it repaired and was told that even though I had previously had the error codes read they would start by charging me $250 to read the error codes.

The 2019 Ford Escape (purchased new in December 2018) was taken to the Nick Mayer Ford (Mayfield Heights, Ohio where it was purchased) service department in August/September 2024 for a computer diagnostic analysis for a previous warranty recall/repair problems regarding short block replacement for coolant intrusion that was not performed/corrected several years prior in 2021 when only the turbocharger was replaced. The problem was excessive smoke being emitted at engine start back in 2021 when the only turbocharger was replaced and the problem reappeared in August 2024. Nick Mayer Ford had the vehicle for two weeks in August/September 2024 and provided neither a computer diagnostic analysis report nor repair of the previous recall/repair issues (2021) including no explanation/resolution of the problem. Currently, due to the previous undiagnosed/unresolved problems, the engine failed at 70,000 miles in December 2024 and the long engine block has to be replaced. The engine warning lamp was on at the time of engine failure. We are still paying on a car loan for the vehicle. References: 1. I was driving my car and then all of a sudden it's starts to jerk and make this clanking sound and stops in the middle of traffic...a indicator check engine light pops in and the service transmission soon..thank God there was no accident due to quick thinking. I try to restart the car and take to the dealer where I bought it and was told they could do nothing and they were backed for 3 months and they just cleared out the message. I start driving it again because I don't have a car and I have to get back and forth to work. Maybe 2 days later it's does the same thing and the car shut down and wouldn't change any gears. I had to get towed which cost money out of my pocket. The car would not move. I only had this car 2 months and I feel as if this was known before the car was sold. Know I have no car and being expected of paying a car note. I contacted Ford and they have nothing to say about it. This is unjust and creeping it's way into a civil lawsuit due to the many complaints. I just want my car fixed as it should because who pays for a car they can't drive.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
2 complaints
Vehicle is my wife’s car. Vehicle lost acceleration during rapid acceleration attempts (freeway on-ramps, etc.). Threw engine light with P0087 code (Low fuel rail pressure). Brought to local dealer to diagnose and was told the diverter valve failed, which caused the water pump to leak and then caused transmission to overheat. The total quote for repairs was over $8,900. None of this made sense. Did a static pressure test for over 45 minutes on coolant system and never lost pressure. That told me the water pump wasn’t leaking. Decided to replace high pressure fuel pump and upon replacing found that the spring on the pump had wore down and punched a hole in the tappet that goes to the camshaft. Replaced high pressure pump, tappet, and fuel manifold from the pump. Pump ($245), fuel manifold ($20), tappet ($10). When purchasing the tappet from the local ford dealer parts store, the employee stated that “they have people come in all the time for these tappets”. After replacing the components, the car runs fine with no issues. I returned to dealer with components and they failed to acknowledge the mid diagnoses of the vehicle and asked that I bring it back in to verify the problem was fixed before refunding the diagnostic fee ($195). Initially I agreed, but after careful consideration I decided not to due to concerns from the initial diagnoses. See attached pictures. Pictures are of new components and old components.

The cowl part broken in JAN24, dealership replaced. I was told this part hold windshield and protects electrical in vehicle. March 2024, I noticed the seal on bottom of windshield wasn’t against the windshield, buckling in several spots, I contacted Ford customer service, Told to take it back to the dealership. The dealership had to order the part and didn’t have a detailed reason why the part was broken / defective, the dealership could order a new cowl part and install when part comes in.

We bought this new Ford Escape at Malloy Ford in December 2019. It now has just under 21,000 miles. We have never had any prior wiper problem. Our Escape is a Titanium model with intermittent wipers that adjust automatically to whatever speed is needed to clear whatever amount of rain is hitting the windshield. On January 31, 2023, we made a trip from Falls Church, VA to our home in Slanesville, WV. The trip started out with intermittent rain, so our wipers were on – sometimes in the intermittent position and sometimes on full time at regular speed. As we passed through Winchester, VA, the rain had stopped but the wiper control was still in the intermittent position. We proceeded north on 522 and headed west on 127 toward Slanesville for several miles. At that point the wipers had not moved for a number of miles, with the control lever still in the intermittent position. Suddenly, without me touching the wiper control at all, the wipers jumped up especially quickly and especially far and stayed in the up position. The driver’s side wiper actually moved past the windshield post so the tip of the wiper was off the windshield and flapping in the wind. After remaining in this extreme up position for several seconds the wipers moved back down to the cowl and then back up to the same extreme up position where they held in place. At this point I moved the wiper control from the intermittent position to the “off” position, at which time the driver’s side wiper moved back down to the cowl and the passenger side wiper remained up in the extreme upright position. The wipers remained in these different positions for several more miles until we arrived home, and they stayed in these positions when I shut off the car. I called my mechanic who told me I could move the passenger side wiper by hand to its down position and restart the car to see what happened. When I did this the wipers stayed down at the cowl because the control was still “off.” When I moved the contr

I was driving along in a Eagle Grove. Iowa when my Escape's collision assist was shut off, then the traction control light started to come on and off. i tried to shut it off with a button but it wouldn't listen. Also my engine acted like it was dying I could only go about 5 miles per hour. I found a parking lot, pulled in and shut the car off hoping the computer would reset. I waited a bit, tried the Escape and everything was fine. I drove off. This Escape was in a car crash in Feb.2021 the brakes failed and my son was driving we hit another SUV. Now I wonder if someone shut off our brakes. I am scared now, I think someone is trying to harm me.

I SUBMITTED THIS COMPLAINT ON 3/08/2020. THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED WHEN THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD MY CAR TOWED INSPECTED THE CAR. THEY FOUND THAT I HAD INSTALLED A WEATHERTECH FLOOR MAT IN THE DRIVERS SIDE AND HAD OVERLAPPED THE LEADING EDGE OF THE MAT OVER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I HAD SNAPPED THE MAT FIRMLY IN PLACE SO THAT IT WAS PRESSING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED WHEN THE FLOOR MAT WAS REMOVED AND INSTALLED PROPERLY.

CAR ACCELERATED FROM 25 TO 75 MPH WITHOUT MY FOOT BEING ON ACCELERATOR. CRUISE CONTROL WAS OFF. SUBSEQUENTLY, STOPPED AND TURNED OFF VEHICLE. RESTARTED AND VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE FROM ANY SPEED WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD TO CONTROL MY SPEED ON A WINDING, NARROW, ROAD WITH NO SHOULDERS. I COULD ONLY CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE CAR BY RIDING THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES OVERHEATED. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP THE CAR ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AT 5,000 RPM. I CAME TO A STOP, THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AT 4,500 RPMS. PUSHED THE IGNITION TO SHUT OFF ENGINE AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE LEXINGTON, VA FORD DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR.

After turning the car on, the car started to shake for a couple minutes, the engine light came on after a few minutes of the car doing that. Took it to get it scanned and the code given was P0302 and P0304. Took the car to a ford dealership and after almost a week it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the cylinders and needed it a new engine. Since the coolant was leaking it also damaged the power steering system due to rust and an electronic power steering gear was also needed since it was giving intermittent failure and was very hard to turn the car. Ford is not owning anything and it is clearly an engine poor design by ford. It is happening to thousands of owner that have that engine.

After the vehicle has been running and stopped at a traffic light or an intersection, whether the auto-start is on or off, as you pull out into traffic the engine shuts off. In order to get it started again, you have to put the vehicle in park and push the stop/start button.

On 9/14/23 after starting car parked on level surface, I placed car in Drive, but it went in Reverse. The vehicle was supposedly repaired for Safety Recall Notice 22S43 by dealer. I placed car back in park, then shifted back to Drive and it moved forward as expected. Later in day while my wife was driving, she experienced difficulty in disengaging cruise control and when she tapped brakes, vehicle began spinning 360 degrees, slid sideways off interstate, and auto was totaled. Upon impact the right, rear passenger door was unlocked and somehow opened on its own ejecting passenger. Vehicle is currently in salvage yard at IAA Odgen, 1800 S 1100 West, Ogden, UT 84401. I don't know if the faulty transmission had anything to do with accident, but it seems like today we drive computers and not a mechanical motor vehicle.

The front section of the panoramic sun roof exploded, for no apparent reason. There was a loud booming sound and glass came raining down everywhere. I was startled and swerved but stayed on the road and did not crash. Broken glass covered me, the front and rear seats, floor, center console etc. Most glass was crumble size but there were fine smaller pieces too. I tried to close the cloth roof but it wouldn't close all the way and glass continued to fall and blow around. There were no trucks around me, few cars, no flying objects, no hot/cold issues, no big bumps in the road; no reason that I saw for this to happen and no warning. The dealership was not interested and Ford company said I was out of warranty so they would not do anything for me. No one has inspected the car yet, but it is currently sitting in my garage if anyone wants to.

Vehicle has 32K miles on it and both low beam headlight bulbs failed at the exact same time. My daughter had just left her house and as soon as she got away from street lights she realized this. The odd part is that the in-dash indicators showed everything working normally with NO FAULTS, so we assumed it was an electrical issue. We got it to a Ford dealer (she has an extended warranty), and they "fixed a connection that had corroded, causing both bulbs to fail." NOT covered under warranty, $250 to replace two bulbs and clean sockets. There are numerous Ford forums with the same complaints. Just felt that you folks should be made aware...

I PURCHASED MY 2019 FORD ESCAPE BRAND NEW IN EARLY SPRING OF 2019. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY ESCAPE I DID NOTICE SOME SLIPPAGE OF THE TRANSMISSION. I PLANNED ON GOING BACK TO THE DEALER SO THEY COULD CHECK IT OUT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY I BECAME ILL, AND THEREFORE IT SLIPPED MY MIND. I WAS IN AND OUT OF THE HOSPITAL FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS, BUT AS SOON AS I FELT WELL ENOUGH I COULD NOT WAIT TO DRIVE MY NEW CAR AGAIN. MY FIRST TRIP WAS ACTUALLY TO MY ONCOLOGIST OFFICE, BUT I WAS EXCITED JUST TO BE DRIVING. ON MY WAY THERE, HOWEVER, MY CAR JERKED ME TO THE LEFT CAUSING ME TO RUN OFF THE ROAD. I WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY DOCTOR'S OFFICE, SO I PARKED AND WENT ABOUT MY BUSINESS. WHEN I MY APPOINTMENT WAS OVER, AND I CAME BACK OUT I NOTICED I HAD A FLAT TIRE. IT REALLY SURPRISED ME, BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I DID HAVE THE WEIRD INCIDENT I MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY, I DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD CAUSE MY TIRE TO BLOW OUT. SO, I HAD THE TIRE REPLACED, AND LIFE WENT ON. SHORTLY AFTER THAT, I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING MY CAR. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR THE FIRST TIME 11/19/19, MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER 1/20/21 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I ADMIT, I DO NOT DRIVE MY CAR MUCH THESE DAYS, BUT I DO MAKE AN EFFORT TO START IT ALMOST EVERYDAY, AND LET RUN FOR 20 MINUTES. WHEN I PURCHASED THE ESCAPE, I WAS EXPECTING TO HAVE TO DRIVE TO THE MEDICAL ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH. I AM SURE EVERYONE IS DRIVING LESS BECAUSE OF THE CORONA VIRUS. I REALLY FEEL NERVOUS GOING OUT BECAUSE OF MY VEHICLE AND CORONA. I HAVE CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE MORE SINCE I BOUGHT THE 2019 ESCAPE, THAN MY OWN MOTHER. ONE LAST THING. I DID MENTION THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING THE FIRST TIME I HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT AFTER REPLACING THE BATTERY, IT DROVE FINE, BUT I RECORDED THE MILEAGE WHEN I WENT TO PICK IT UP, AND THE MILEAGE WAS THE SAME AS IT WAS WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF.

2019 FORD ESCAPE TITANIUM STEERING WHEEL SHAKES/VIBRATES HEAVY & MAKES A LOUD NOISE FROM CAR (ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE A BAD LOUD MUFFLER SOUND) AT SPEEDS OF 35 MPH & 45MPH WHEN THE GAS PEDDLE IS LEVELED AT SPEED AND ALSO DOES THE SAME WHEN GOING UP AN INCLINE AT THE SAME SPEEDS. ALSO TRANSMISSION SLIPS BETWEEN 1 & 2 GEARS INTERMITTENTLY. VERY BUMPY RIDE IN THE BACK WHEN GOING 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THESE ISSUES HAPPEN WHEN ON LOCAL ROADS & HIGHWAY RAMPS. DEALER REPAIR HAS CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES. FIRST FEW TIMES THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. DECEMBER 29, 2020 FINALLY GOT THE ISSUE TO REPLICATE AND PUT A TICKET DIRECTLY INTO FORD. I CHECKED BACK ON 1/7/2021 SINCE I BARE THE HEARD FROM THE DEALER SERVICE REP. AT THAT TIME SHE STILL DIDN'T HAVE AN ANSWER TO A RESOLUTION TO FIX THE FAULT. I CALLED TODAY 1/13/2021 AND THE DEALER REPAIR SERVICE REP SAID IT WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE MODEL BECAUSE THEY INFORMED FORD ON THE TICKET THEY TESTED ANOTHER 2019 ESCAPE WITH THE SAME ENGINE & TRANSMISSION AND IT HAD THE SAME FAULT. CAR WAS MANUFACTURED 3/2019. PLEASE NOTE I HAVE PURCHASED BRAND NEW FORD ESCAPES IN 2002, 2005, 2009, 2017 & 2019. I KNOW HOW THE ENGINE & TRANSMISSION OF A FORD ESCAPE SHOULD PREFORM. I STILL HAVE MY 2009 ESCAPE AND IT PREFORMS BETTER THEN THIS 2019...COMPARABLE ENGINES & TRIM PACKAGE. THE FAULTS THIS 2019 IS HAVING ARE NOT CHARACTERISTICS OF A CAR THEY ARE CLEARLY ISSUES WHERE PARTS NEED TO BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. FORD NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIND WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE AND REPAIR IT CORRECTLY.

WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE I NOTICED THAT ALL INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING, GAUGES, AND DISPLAY SCREENS WENT OUT. THE GAUGE NEEDLES RETURNED TO THEIR 'HOME' POSITIONS. THERE WAS AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE MAIN TOUCH SCREEN THAT SAID: NETWORK COMMUNICATION FAILURE. WORRIED, I TOOK THE NEXT AVAILABLE EXIT AND FOUND A PARKING LOT TO INVESTIGATE. I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, FIGURING THAT IF I COMPLETELY SHUT THE CAR DOWN THE SYSTEM WOULD SOMEHOW CORRECT ITSELF AFTER A 'REBOOT' OF THE THE PCM AND BCM. I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT I WAS IN TROUBLE, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A 'SMART KEYLESS START SYSTEM' BUT NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I WOULD TRY PUSHING THE BUTTON. EVEN THOUGH THE CAR OPERATED PROPERLY AFTER THE SYMPTOMS COMMENCED I FIND IT DOUBTFUL THAT ALL OF THE CAR'S SAFETY FEATURES WOULD HAVE OPERATED AS DESIGNED, IF NEEDED. IF I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO IN ACCIDENT AT THE TIME THE CAR WAS EXPERIENCING THESE PROBLEMS WOULD THE SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM WORK PROPERLY AND DEPLOY THE APPLICABLE AIR BAGS??? WOULD THE 'AUTO FUEL PUMP SHUTDOWN' DO ITS JOB IF NEEDED??? ALSO, WHAT IF THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AT THIS TIME AND I COULD NOT SHUT OFF THE CAR??? NOT SAFE!!!

I HAVE HAD MY FORD ESCAPE FOR JUST OVER 30 DAYS. ABOUT TWO WEEKS INTO OWNING IT, I HAD STOPPED BEHIND A VEHICLE. THE START/STOP ENGAGED AND WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE AGAIN THE POWER TRAIN FAULT ILLUMINATED. IN ORDER TO MOVE THE VEHICLE, I HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED 3 WEEKS AFTER THE FIRST TIME, AGAIN TODAY. THIS COULD CAUSE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES IF THE VEHICLE BEHIND YOU DOES NOT STOP IN TIME.

I BOUGHT THE CAR MARCH 20TH BRAND NEW. ON APRIL 14TH I WAS DRIVING IT HOME AND THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING. ALL WARNING LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I COULD NOT GET IT STARTED AND WHEN I FINALLY DID IT WOULDN'T MOVE AND I COULD NOT SHUT IT OFF. THIS WENT ON FOR 2 AND A HALF HOURS. I FINALLY GOT IT HOME (DRIVEN BY MY HUSBAND) AND THE NEXT MORNING (MONDAY) WE GOT IT TOWED TO FORD DEALER. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD MONDAY AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN ONTO THE FLATBED TRUCK. WE PUT IN A CLAIM TO FORD HEADQUARTERS AND APRIL 22ND FORD INFORMED ME THEY WOULD NOT BUY BACK OR REFUND ME THE MONEY FOR THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR LESS THAN 30 DAYS. WE WERE NOT GIVEN A REASON FOR THIS MECHANICAL FAILURE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED US ON FRIDAY (APRIL 19TH) THAT THEY TOUCHED A FUSE BOX" AND NOW IT IS WORKING. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CAR FOR ME TO DRIVE. I WAS ON A CITY STREET DRIVING THE CAR WHEN IT STOPPED SUDDENLY AND LOST ALL POWER. I WAS IN MOTION.

VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. STEPS TO REPRODUCE ISSUE: KEYFOB IS INSIDE VEHICLE IN DRIVERS COAT POCKET, MOBILE PHONE IS INTERMITTENTLY CONNECTED TO VEHICLE VIA USB CORD, VEHICLE IS ON, ENGINE RUNNING, START/STOP IS ON, VEHICLE IS DRIVING THEN STOPS AT A STOPLIGHT, START/STOP ENGAGES AND IDLES ENGINE FOR AT LEAST 15 SECONDS. WHEN FOOT BRAKE IS RELEASED VEHICLE SHUTS OFF, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, RADIO, INFOTAINMENT, ETC TURN OFF. TO RESTART VEHICLE TRANSMISSION MUST BE PLACED IN NEUTRAL OR PARK AND VEHICLE ON/OFF BUTTON PRESSED. VEHICLE RESTARTS, POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION ERROR DISPLAYS AND INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE REBOOTING AND DISPLAYS WELCOME MESSAGE SUCH AS BEFORE IT WAS SET UP. VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT TO DEALER; BLACKWELL FORD IN PLYMOUTH MI BOTH TIMES. DEALER COULD NOT REPRODUCE ISSUE OR PULL DETAILED INFORMATION BEYOND GENERAL FAULT. DEALER PERFORMED 1265OD EEC SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS QUICK TEST, 1265OD45 ENGINE MODULE DIAGNOSTIC PIN POINT TEST, 12650DX1 EEC SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS QUICK TEST TWICE, ROAD TESTED, IDS TEST P164C, PPT AA IN PCED MANUAL, RESET KAM AND RETEST PASS, AND UPON REQUEST CHECKED THAT PCM FIRMWARE WAS THE LATEST VERSION. DEALER REQUESTED PERMISSION FOR EXTENDED MILEAGE TESTING WITH SKYTRACKER INSTALLED AFTER 2ND FAULT, PERMISSION WAS GIVEN. ISSUE OCCURS APPROXIMATELY EVERY 30 DAYS DRIVING 2 TRIPS/DAY. ISSUE PRESENTS A HIGH AND SEVERE RISK OF FATAL INCIDENT BECAUSE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AT A GREEN LIGHT AND MAY BE REAR ENDED BY AN APPROACHING VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEED. BECAUSE VEHICLE IS OFF, AIRBAGS AND OTHER SAFETY EQUIPMENT MAY NOT ACTIVATE INCREASING RISK OF FATAL INCIDENT. VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW WITH 10 MILES RECORDED ON ODOMETER IN FEBRUARY OF 2019, AS OF APRIL 2019 THE ISSUE HAS OCCURRED TWICE. ONCE ON FEBRUARY 22ND AND ONCE ON APRIL 3RD.
