VEHICLE HAD FACTORY ORIGINAL FULL SIZE SPARE GENERAL AMERI550 AS WITH LESS THAN 400 TOTAL MILES DRIVEN HAD TREAD SEPARATION, VIRTUALLY ALL THE TREAD CAME OFF AND TIRE STAYED INFLATED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS TIRE HAD NEVER BEEN DRIVEN ON PREVIOUSLY AND WAS IN AS NEW CONDITION WHEN I INSTALLED IT JUST TWO WEEKS AGO RIM AND ALL WHEN I HAD A FLAT IN MY REGULAR TIRE. AFTER RECOVERING THE TREAD I FOUND THAT THE RUBBER APPEARED MORE BRITTLE AND HAD SUFFERED SEVERE WEAR IN LESS THAN 400 MILES, THERE WERE BITS AND PIECES OF RUBBER MISSING FROM THE TREAD FROM DRIVING ON MY GRAVEL ROAD, THE OTHER TIRES OF DIFFERENT BRAND REMAIN IN GREAT SHAPE AFTER THOUSANDS OF MILES. I HAVE CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AT THEIR CUSTOMER RELATIONS LINE ON FEBRUARY 17,2010 TO SEE IF THEY COULD OFFER SOME ASSISTANCE. I AM MORE THAN ABLE TO INSTALL THIS ITEM MY SELF. I LIVE ON MAUI IN A TOWN CALLED HANA AND I AM ABOUT 2 1/2 HOURS FROM A DEALER. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER AND THE CABLE THAT BROKE WILL COST ME JUST OVER 100.00 DOLLARS. FRAME SO RUSTED CAN'T GET A STICKER, ORIGINAL PAINT ON TRUCK. FORD WAS FACTORY UNDERCOATED WITH RUBBER TYPE UNDERCOATING. WHICH PEALED OFF AND LEFT LOTS OF RUST ON ENTIRE FRAME. NOT SAFE FOR INSPECTION. TOLD BY GARAGE, TO JUNK IT. BOUGHT NEW IN 1998.

IN 2012, I REPLACED MY GAS TANK BECAUSE SEVERE CORROSION HAD EATEN NUMEROUS SMALL HOLES INTO THE TOP OF THE TANK SO IT COULD NOT BE FILLED OVER 3/4TH WITHOUT LEAKING. FLAKES OF RUST WERE FALLING ONTO THE TOP OF THE TANK FROM THE FRAME X-MEMBER CAUSING THESE HOLES. THE FRAME X-MEMBER WAS NOT ADDRESSED AND THE NEW GAS TANK BEGAN TO LEAK WITHIN A YEAR AND A HALF OF REPLACEMENT. THE ENGINE WAS JUST RECENTLY TUNED UP BY A FORD DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS INTERMITTENTLY VIBRATING. WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF THIS TUNE UP, THE ENGINE LOST FULL POWER WITH FINDING OF GROSSLY CONTAMINATED FUEL. THE 2 YEAR OLD TANK WAS PULLED AND THE TOP OF THE TANK WAS REVEALED TO BE METALLIC SWISS CHEESE EQUIVALENT, THIS TIME WITH NUMEROUS VERY LARGE HOLES THAT RAIN WAS EASILY PENETRATING INTO THE TANK VIA THE CAB-BED SPACE OPENING. THE X-MEMBER FRAME SUPPORT WAS CORRODED IN HALF. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIX IT AND I PAID FOR A SECOND NEW TANK AND FUEL PUMP($350 WITH SHIPPING TO HI), POR 15 COATED THE TOP OF THE NEW TANK MYSELF, AND PAID A LOCAL BODY SHOP$1042.00 TO PULL THE X-MEMBER AND REPLACE IT WITH A USED PART AS FORD NO LONGER STOCKS (LIKELY RUSTED TO BITS IN THEIR WAREHOUSE). THE NEW TANK AND USED X-MEMBER ARE NOW INSTALLED AND AWAITING AN ENGINE MECHANIC TO ADDRESS WHY THE ENGINE WON'T START UP DESPITE NEW TANK/FRESH FUEL/PUMP/FILTER. LIKELY ANOTHER $500 TO CLEAN FUEL INJECTION/ENGINE BRINGING 2 YEAR TOTAL FOR ROTTED X-MEMBER AND TWO GAS TANKS TO WELL OVER $3000. PERUSING YOUR DATA BASE, THE FRAME RUST ISSUE SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING THEME PARTICULARLY FOR THE 1997 YEAR MODEL. MY ASSESSMENT IS THERE WAS SOMETHING VERY ROTTEN IN 1998 F150 FRAME COMPONENTS AND OR CORROSION PROTECTIONS USED. ON FRIDAY 1/23/09 AND AROUND 3PM IT WAS REPORTED TO ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS IN FIRE. THERE WAS A SMALL FIRE IN THE BACK RIGHT AREA IF YOU ARE STANDING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE CAR, WHICH APPEARED TO BE CAUSED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT W/ DAMAGE TO THE WIRING IN THE AREA AND DESTROYED THE BRAKE FLUID CANISTER. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AND WAS INFORMED I WOULD HEAR SOMETHING WITHIN 15 BUSINESS DAYS VIA MAIL. IN LATE 2005 OR EARLY 2006 I BROUGHT THE 1998 F-150 TO SAWGRASS FORD IN SUNRISE, FL TO HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL RECALL LOOKED AT. AT THAT TIME I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS FINE AND THEY WOULD CALL ONCE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE IN STOCK. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL AND UNFORTUNATELY I NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING OF IT AGAIN. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS CONTACTED AND TOOK THE CONTACT TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE STAYED HOSPITALIZED FROM APRIL 4 2020 TO MAY 8 2020 FOR HIS BURNS. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A LOSS. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I HAVE CONTACTED MYSELF THE BF GOODRICH COMPANY AND THE DEALERSHIP THAT SELLS BF GOODRICH TIRES. I HAVE CONTACTED THE COMPANY TWO TIMES. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE AND IT HAS BEEN TWO TO THREE MONTHS. I AM WRITING YOU HOPING THAT I CAN GET SOME RESULTS. I BOUGHT TIRES ON LINE THRU MANDAN WALMART. THE DATE WAS MARCH 26, 2016. IT WAS FOR 4 TIRES. THE SIZE WAS P235/70R16. I HAD A FLAT REAR 3-5-2019. I TOOK THE TIRE IN TO BE REPAIR ON 3-7-2019. MANDAN WALMART WOULD NOT REPAIR THE TIRE BECAUSE IT HAD DRY ROT. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 149312. WHEN I PURCHASED THE TIRE FROM MANDAN WALMART I DID NOT KNOW THAT THE TIRES WERE GOTTEN FROM A THIRD PARTY CALLED DOTCOM TIRE. THEY SENT THE TIRES TO THE STORE AND THEY PUT ON AND BALANCED WITH NEW VALVE STEMS. WHAT I DID NOT KNOW IS THAT THE TIRE HAD A MANUFACTURE DATE OF 04/13. THEY WERE SOLD AS NEW TIRES AND THE WARRANTY ONLY HAD 3 YEARS ON IT. MANDAN WALMART SAID THEY DO NOT FIX FLATS WITH ROT AND THAT DID NOT SELL THE TIRES, THE THIRD PARTY DID. I BOUGHT NEW TIRES NOT THREE YEAR OLD TIRES AND MANDAN WALMART SHOULD TOLD ME THAT THE TIRES WERE THAT OLD. MANDAN WALMART TOLD ME ALSO "CUSTOMER NEGLECT" ON MY VEHICLE WHAT NONSENSE IS THIS? NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE;SUDDEN FAILURE OF SPARE TIRE RETAINING CABLE ON PERSONAL TRUCK. I FOUND THAT AS I FILLED THERE WAS A STEADY STREAM COMING DOWN WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE FRAMEWORK HOLDING UP THE FUEL TANK AND DRIPPING TO THE GROUND A COUPLE OF FEET FORWARD OF THE FILLING POINT. AS THE TANK FILLED IT APPEARED TO ALSO DRIP DIRECTLY UNDER THE FILLING POINT. I DID FIND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FUEL STRAP WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK REGISTERED IN OHIO FOR ABOUT 18 YEARS AND THUS REGISTERED IN THE RUST BELT STATES. WE DID NOT NOTICE ANY DRIPPING AT OUR HOME, ONLY ON FILLING THE TANK.

NEXT THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYED ON CONSTANTLY - WEATHER SEEMS TO PLAY A FACTOR.*AK NEXT THE IGNITION SWITCH CHIME STARTED STAYING ON CONSTANTLY WHEN KEYS AREN'T EVEN IN THE IGNITION...AGAIN WEATHER SEEMS TO BE A FACTOR. INITIALLY WIGGLING THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD SOMETIMES GET THE CHIME TO STOP BUT NOW I HAD TO REMOVE THE GEM FUSE(15) AS IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CHIME TO QUIT. I HAVEN'T CHECKED YET WHAT ELSE THAT FUSE IS USED FOR. IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR ALL F150 OWNERS - SO FORD NEEDS TO FIX IT!!!!

MY 1998 FORD F150 4X4 BLEW 3 COILS WITHIN 3 MONTHS OF EACH OTHER, CULMINATING WITH THE IGNITION COIL IN AUGUST 2004. I CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD I WAS BEING PUT ON A "RECALL LIST" IN CASE OTHERS HAD COMPLAINTS. WHEN THE COILS BLOW, THERE IS A HORRIBLE NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER DUE TO THE SPARK PLUG NO LONGER IGNITING THAT CYLINDER FOR THE ENGINE TO RUN OFF OF. THIS WAS NOT A PARTICULARLY BAD INCIDENT, BUT IT COULD VERY WELL HAVE BEEN. I CONSIDER IT A 'CLOSE CALL' FROM WHICH THERE IS A WARNING TO BE HEARD. THE STRAPS HOLDING UP THE GAS TANK ON MY F-150 RUSTED THROUGH, DROPPING THE TANK [FORTUNATELY AT LOW SPEED WHERE I COULD STOP FAST - EVEN SO, ANOTHER FOOT OR SO AND I WOULD HAVE BURST THE TANK AGAINST A SEWER GRATING]. THE TANK WAS RUST-FREE, AS WERE THE VERTICAL PARTS OF THE STRAPS. I THINK THAT THE PLASTIC PAD BETWEEN THE STRAPS AND THE TANK HELD WATER AGAINST THE STRAP, RUSTING IT. THE PAD WRAPS AROUND THE STRAP, AND I BELIEVE SCOOPED WATER THROWN BY THE TIRES. I SUGGEST EITHER A PAD REDESIGN TO ELIMINATE THIS, OR THAT THE STRAPS BE OF STAINLESS. THE STRAPS APPEARED TO BE INTACT, BUT THE METAL WAS PRETTY MUCH CONVERTED TO RUST WITHOUT CHANGING SHAPE. IT IS NOT LIKE THE STRAPS WERE VISIBLY RUSTED AWAY. I SUSPECT THAT THE PAD HELD THE RUST IN PLACE. I HAD CHANGED THE OIL NOT TOO LONG BEFORE AND NOTICED NOTHING WRONG. I DO NOT SPECIFICALLY RECALL LOOKING AT THE STRAPS, BUT I DO TRY TO LOOK AROUND WHEN I AM UNDER THE TRUCK JUST TO SEE IF ANYTHING IS FUNKY. HAD I BEEN GOING AT ANY DECENT SPEED, NOT IN A PARKING LOT, I SUSPECT I WOULD HAVE BURNED TO DEATH.... THE REPAIR WAS SIMPLE; REPLACE THE STRAPS AND TWO PLASTIC VENT HOSE CONNECTIONS THAT FAILED. JACKING UP THE TANK [FULL] AND TYING IT UP SO THE TRUCK COULD BE PULLED UP ON A TILTBED WAS A HASSLE, MAINLY SINCE I DID NOT HAVE THE APPROPRIATE TOOLS ON HAND. A SIMPLE INSPECTION WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS INCIDENT, THOUGH IT WOULD HAVE TO HAVE BEEN MORE THAN JUST A VISUAL INSPECTION; POKING THE STRAP WITH A PICK TO VERIFY IT WASN'T ALL RUST JUST LOOKING LIKE SURFACE RUSTED METAL.. THE 1998 FORD F150 PICK UP TRUCK 4.2 LITER V6 ENGINE THREW A ROD DURING STARTUP ONE MORNING. THE ENGINE HAD 70,000 EASY MILES ON IT. NO TOWING, RACING OR HARD DRIVING. I HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED AT A COST OF $4200.00 WITH A JASPER ENGINE AT MR. ENGINE BECAUSE FORD WOULD NOT HELP AT ALL UNLESS I PAID THEM $7500.00 FOR A NEW FORD ENGINE. I HAD ALREADY REPLACED TWO AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS SAME VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME IT COST ME $2200.00 AT 50,000 MILES TO REBUILD THE ORIGINAL, AND THE SECOND TIME $1800.00 TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL WITH A REMANUFACTURED JENNINGS TRANSMISSION AT 160,000. I BOUGHT USED VEHICLE FROM THE BO'S AUTORAMA ON 6/2004 AND USED IT ONCE OR TWICE IN THE FIRST YEAR. I STARTED TO USE IT REGULARLY IN APRIL 2005. FIRST I HAD TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS/WIRES BECAUSE OF WATER GETTING INTO THEM, AND CAUSING A MISS IN THE ENGINE ON 4/2005. THEN I HAD THEM SEALED ON 9/2005, THEN, REPLACED ON 12/2005 , AND THE PROBLEM TO THIS DAY, HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED, BUT I SPENT OVER $900 TRYING. THE TRANSMISSION AND REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED 3 TIMES ON 5/2005, 6/2005, AND 7/2005. THE MUFFLER WAS REPLACED IN 8/2005, THE BATTERY DIED IN 10/2005, THE FRONT BRAKES WENT OUT IN 11/2005. SO LESS THAN 14,000 MILES FROM PURCHASE I HAD SPENT OVER $5OOO IN REPAIRS, AND STILL COULD NOT DRIVE IT. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO BO'S BEUCKMAN FORD AND WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED IN A WRITTEN REPORT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I have multiple issues that hit all around same time. Body rusted and water leaks getting the bcm wet which causes the truck to go haywire, lights flashing, doors locking and unlocking, radio stays on, caused multiple things to stop working, fuel tank leaks when filling it up where the fuel tank fill hose rusted into the tank, causing multiple vacuum leaks and horrible running conditions and truck dies if not holding clutch, gas and brake at light. Rear trailer wiring plug when it's connected causes multiple lights to stay on even though vehicle not running and everything off. Also melted all wires on 2 trailers causing shorted out lights, replaced clutch 2 times since purchase on 3rd clutch and mechanics not sure why even after showing them I am properly using the clutch system, not pulling heavy loads, or driving it like a race truck. ABS system light won't shut off even though no codes or problems with abs system, multiple vacuum leaks and can't get rid of running lean and bad O2 sensors even after replacing them all.

SHOCK UPPER MOUNT SIMPLY FELL OFF CAUSING DRIVER SIDE REAR SHOCK TO DRAG GROUND. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION ALSO NOTICED AT THE LOCATION OF THE RUSTED OUT MOUNT LOCATION THAT THE REAR WIRING FOR THE TAIL LIGHT WERE SEVERED CAUSING TRUCK TO NOW BE STUCK IN PARK. ALSO WHILE INSPECTING NOTICED REAR FRAME IS SIMPLY FALLING APART AND OTHER AREAS THROUGHOUT THE FRAME ARE WEAK AS WELL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AFTER DOING RESEARCH I AM FINDING MANY ACCOUNTS OF THE SAME ISSUE ONLINE BUT NO MANUFACTURE RECALLS. WHY ISN'T FORD DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE? INCIDENT #1 INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN ENGINE BAY AFFECTING CHARGING SYSTEM, EMISSIONS, AND DRIVE SYSTEMS. FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED AS "BAD ALTERNATOR" AND "BAD WIRING HARNESS". AFTER I BROUGHT IT BACK WITHOUT HAVING REPAIRS DONE, I CLEANED AND LUBED ALL CONNECTORS. ALL PROBLEMS WENT AWAY. I ENDED UP HAVING TO BUY A NEW BATTERY DUE TO DAMAGE DONE BY THE FAULTY CONNECTIONS. THE PROBLEMS HAD BEEN INTERMITTENT AND PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE BEFORE I CLEANED AND LUBED ALL CONNECTORS, THIS PROBLEM COST ME A BATTERY, AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK AS THE BATTERY DIED AT NIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY. WITH NO BATTERY AND NO ALTERNATOR, THE VEHICLE STALLED, LIGHTING DIED, ETC. INCIDENT #2 LEAKING TIMING COVER GASKET AND LOWER INTAKE GASKETS. AT THIS MOMENT THE VEHICLE HAS 127K APPX MILES ON IT, AND IT IS CURRENTLY SITTING AS I WILL NOT DRIVE IT UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED, ALL MILES PUT ON VEHICLE HAVE BEEN "LIGHT" MILES (NO HEAVY TOWING, NO OVERLOADING OF VEHICLE, NO EXCESSIVE SPEED, ETC). FORD ISSUED A BULLETIN STATING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH GASKETS UP UNTIL ROUGHLY 1/16/98. THEY THEN ISSUED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION REMEDY THAT DID NOT COVER THE FULL GASKET SET OR ALL AFFECTED ENGINE MODEL YEARS. ACCORDING TO THE BULLETIN, MY ENGINE (MFG DATE PRIOR TO 9/97) IS AFFECTED, ACCORDING TO THEIR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION REMEDY IT IS NOT ELIGIBLE. IN MY BOOK, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE THE BASIS OF A RECALL. ENGINES HAVE DIED WITH AS LITTLE AS 50K MILES ON THEM, I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE THAT I WAS HONESTLY SCARED TO DRIVE UNTIL NOW. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE ONLY THE FRACTURED STRAP WAS REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, THEY WERE ONLY OBLIGATED TO REPLACE THE FRACTURED STRAP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD ONLY REPLACED THE STRAP WHICH FRACTURED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS FRACTURED AND PIERCED THROUGH THE TRUCK BED DUE TO CORROSION. IN ADDITION, THE FRAME UNDER THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ALSO EXHIBITED RUST AND CORROSION. THE DOME LIGHTS INSIDE WOULD TURN ON AND OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY, BUT THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT WATER ENTERED THROUGH THE FIREWALL. HE SPECULATED THAT THIS COULD BE THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE (ACCORDING TO SIMILAR VEHICLES HE REPAIRED). SHE REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD AT A GLASS COMPANY BUT REALIZED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS NOT THE CAUSE FOR THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC WHO INSTALLED THE WINDSHIELD TOLD HER THAT HE COULD SEE DAYLIGHT WHERE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS LOCATED AND HE BELIEVED THAT WAS THE LOCATION WHERE THE WATER WAS COMING IN. INCLUDED STUDS ON ROTOR ARE IDENTIFIED ON HEAD W726, THEY ARE 12 MILLIMETER THREADS AND APPROXIMATELY 2.25" LONG. 2. FAILURE, WHILE INSTALLING WHEEL TWO STUDS SNAPPED AND BROKE IN TWO AT JUST 60 FOOT POUNDS TORQUE. NUTS WERE TIGHTENED WITH A TORQUE WHENCH IN PROPER SEQUENCE. ONE DAY MY 1998 FORD F-150 WITH ONLY 37,000 MILES (I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER)WAS WORKING JUST FINE. FORD HAS A RECALL ON THE 99 ON UP 250 AND 350 WITH THE SAME DEVICE,BUT THEY WOULDN'T HONOR THIS ON THE 98. THEY HAVE DECIDED TO RETOOL THE DEVICE BY TAKING THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL OUT OF THIS DEVICE AS A STAND ALONE CONTROL. I HAD JUST TURNED OFF INTERSTATE 287 ONTO INTERVALE ROAD (A LOCAL ROAD). I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION WITH A VERY SHARP LEFT HAND CURVE. AS I PROCEEDED TO ENTER THE CURVE I HAD NO STEERING. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD TURN, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR NOISE. I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, BUT THERE WAS LOOSE SAND AND GRAVEL AND I ENDED UP SLIDING INTO A UTILITY POLE STRAIGHT AHEAD, WITHOUT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND ONLY MINOR DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS SECURED BY THE SEAT BELT, BUT MY HEAD STRUCK THE SUN VISOR. POLICE AT THE SCENE EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED LOSS OF STEERING. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION BY THE SHOP TO WHICH MY TRUCK WAS TOWED REVEALED THAT THE SECTOR SHAFT WAS BROKEN WHERE THE PITMAN ARM IS ATTACHED. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I WAS TOLD THAT THIS PART SHOULD NEVER FAIL IN A VEHICLE, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. I WAS FURTHER TOLD THAT IF THE PART WAS POUNDED ALL DAY WITH A SLEDGE HAMMER THAT IT SHOULD NOT FAIL. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE HAD ONLY HEARD OF ONE FAILURE EVER OF THIS PART IN A HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT. FURTHERMORE, THIS PART IS LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH DID NOT SUFFER ANY IMPACT FROM THE ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED FORD WITH THIS INFORMATION AND THEY ARE TOTALLY INDIFFERENT TO IT. THEY WANT ME TO PAY UP TO $60,000 TO HIRE AN EXPERT WITNESS TO PROVE THAT THE PART FAILED PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT AND WAS DEFECTIVE. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO USE THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2004 AND HAVE NO RESOLUTION OR COMMITMENT FROM FORD TO DO ANYTHING. REAR LEAF SPRING: ON THE F-150, EXTEND CAB, LONG BED, THE LEFT REAR LEAF SPRING IS OVER-LOADED BECAUSE THE FUEL TANK ( AND THE DRIVER ) ARE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LEAN AND BECOME UNSTABLE. WHEN CARRING A LOAD, THE MAJORITY OF THE WEIGHT SHIFTS TO THE LEFT SIDE AND THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BE MORE UNSTABLE.
