I HAVE NOTICED THAT A TAR LIKE SUBSTANCE WAS LEAKING FROM THE REAR OF THE TRUCK ALONG WITH A CHEMICAL ODOR. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TAR AND ODOR WAS A RESULT OF LEAKING FUEL COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE UNDERCOATING. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST $600. TO REPAIR THE TANK AND THAT THE TANK WAS NO LONGER MADE AND THEY WOULD USE AN AFTER MARKET TANK. THEY TOLD ME THAT ALL THESE TANKS LEAK AND THEY SUGGESTED THAT I NO LONGER USE THIS TANK. MY QUESTION IS, IF ALL THESE TANKS LEAK, WHY WAS THERE NEVER A RECALL? WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE GETS REAR ENDED? *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN THE FUEL GAUGE READING. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WAS AT LEAST 25 GALLONS OF FUEL WHICH HAD LEAKED FROM THE FUEL TANK ONTO THE GROUND WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A DUAL FUEL TANK AND THE FUEL LEAKAGE ORIGINATED FROM THE FRONT FUEL TANK. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 93V125000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.

THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE WAS THE SAME AS LISTED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 93V125000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. STEEL FIXED BRAKE LINES RUPTURED AS A RESULT OF CORROSION DAMAGE, CAUSING PARTIAL BRAKE FAILURE. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH THIS TRUCK. THE FIRST TIME, THE LINE RUNNING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE FITTING NEAR THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL FAILED AT THE FITTING WHERE IT ATTACHED TO THE BRAKE HOSE GOING TO THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. I HAD AN MY NEIGHBOR WHO WORKS AS A GENERAL MECHANIC REPLACE THAT LINE, AND THE LINE RUNNING TO THE OTHER FRONT WHEEL. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A PRIVATE ROAD ON MY PROPERTY DRIVING LESS THAN 10 MPH, AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE SAFELY WITH THE PARKING BRAKE. A SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED OCTOBER 18 WHILE DOWN IN GREENBELT, MD WHICH IS ABOUT 50 MILES FROM HOME. THIS TIME I WAS IN A NEARLY EMPTY PARKING LOT WHEN I NOTICED PROBLEMS. I LIMPED TO A NEARBY GAS STATION WHERE I MORE CLOSELY INSPECTED THE BRAKES FOR THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS TIME, THE FAILURE WAS NEAR A FITTING WHERE THE STEEL LINE ATTACHES TO A FITTING WHERE FLEXIBLE HOSE WHICH RUNS TO THE LINES ON THE REAR AXLE ATTACHES TO THE FIXED LINE IN THE BODY OF THE TRUCK. SAME FAILURE DIFFERENT PLACE. THE GAS STATION'S SERVICE BAYS WERE CLOSED, SO I DECIDED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY NEIGHBOR'S GARAGE AGAIN, WHERE WE WILL REPLACE THE REST OF THE LINES. THE ISSSUE ISN'T SO MUCH THE COST OF REPAIRING THE RUSTY BRAKE LINES, WHICH SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN 100 DOLLARS IN PARTS AND SEVERAL HOURS OF LABOR ON THE PART OF MY NEIGHBOR AND MYSELF, BUT THE POTENTIAL THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS, IF NOT DEADLY ACCIDENT HAD THE CIRCUMSTANCES BEEN SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT. I REALIZE THIS IS AN OLDER VEHICLE NOW, BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD OF OTHER VEHICLES OF SIMILAR AGE HAVING THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE DONE A MORE THOROUGH INSPECTION OF THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM AFTER THE FIRST RUPTURED LINE, BUT NEVERTHELESS THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD NEEDS TO BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF ITS OWNERS BEFORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS DO OCCUR.

THE CONTACT REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE WITH A MANUFACURER ENGINE. THE SIMILAR FAILURE OCCURREG AGAIN IN THE NEWLY INSTALLED ENGINE DUE TO DEFECTIVE CYLINDERS. LEFT FOR WORK ON THIS DAY IN THE USUAL MANNER. TURNED ONTO US 19 FROM US 64. AS I ACCELERATED FROM THE STOPLIGHT THE TRUCK BACKFIRED OUT OF THE EXHAUST, I SHIFTED GEARS AND IT BACKFIRED AGAIN, THIS TIME THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" CAME ON. I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR 5 TIMES SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. WHEN I BRING THIS TO FORD'S ATTENTION THEY JUST GIVE ME THE ANSWER THAT THE DO NOT KNOW WHY MY TRUCK IS BLOWING ALTERNATORS, WHICH ALSO CAUSES ME TO PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY EVERY TIME THE ALTERNATOR GOES. I KNOW OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME YEAR TRUCK AND ALSO PURCHASED THE VEHICAL NEW AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.

The contact owns a 1993 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving downhill in 4WD, and letting off the accelerator pedal, the transmission unintendedly shifted into neutral. The contact pulled over and placed the vehicle in park(P) before shifting into to drive(D) for the vehicle to operate as needed. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 93V089000 (Power Train) as a possible solution however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

FORD EARLY MODEL E4OD TRANSMISSION HAS HAD MANY AND MULTIPLE PART FAILURES. MY THIRD 92-96 F-150 W/E4OD. CURRENTLY HAS BAD CONVERTER AND VALVE BODY. WILL NOT LOCKUP IN OVERDRIVE CAUSES SHUDDERING AND VERY BAD GAS MILEAGE. BANGS HARD INTO GEARS AND HAS DELAYED INITIAL SHIFT INTO FORWARD AND REVERSE. TWO PREVIOUS VEHICLES NEEDED COMPLETE REBUILDS OF TRANSMISSIONS. ALL EXPERIENCED HARSH SHIFTS, SLIPPING INTO GEAR, SHUDDERING AT VEHICLE SPEEDS, BLOWING SEALS W/FLUID LEAKAGE AND BAD FUEL MILEAGE. INQUIRED ABOUT A REBUILD AND WAS TOLD TO REBUILD WITH REPLACEMENT OF MANY REDESIGNED INTERNAL PARTS MOST OF WHICH HAD FAILED PREVIOUSLY INCLUDING PUMP,CONVERTER AND SUPPORT. WHILE SLOWING FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I ATTEMPTED TO DOWNSHIFT. WHEN I PUSHED IN THE CLUTCH PEDAL, IT WENT TO THE FLOOR, HAVING NO EFFECT, LEAVING THE ENGINE ENGAGED WITH THE TRANSMISSION WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AS I WAS APPROACHING TRAFFIC STOPPED AT A TOLL BOOTH. I WAS ABLE TO FORCE THE SHIFTER INTO NEUTRAL. AND COME SAFELY TO A STOP. UPON INSPECTING THE CLUTCH LINKAGE, I FOUND THAT A PLASTIC RETAINER HAD COME OFF A SHAFT CONNECTING THE CLUTCH PUSH ROD TO THE CLUTCH CROSSOVER SHAFT. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY POOR AND UNSAFE METHOD OF CONNECTING VITAL DRIVETRAIN COMPONENTS. SOMEONE OF LESS DRIVING EXPERIENCE OR STRENGTH MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO DO, OR BEEN ABLE TO SAFELY STOP THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE FAILURE OF A CHEAP PLASTIC PART AND AN UNSAFE AND INFERIOR DESIGN. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE STERING COLUMN. ONLY DAMAGE WAS OUR OWN, WITH BURNT WIRES WITHIN THE WIRELOOM UNDER THE DASH. UPON INVESTIGATION BY MY HUSBAND, HE FOUND 7 WIRES MELTED INTO ONE ANOTHER. THE FUSE DID NOT MELT, BUT THE WIRES HAD TOTALLY DISINTIGRATED. THE WIRES ARE TO SMALL FOR THE 15 AMP FUSE THEY ARE ATTACHED TO. WE HAVE HAD THIS BURNING UNDER OUR DASH SEVERAL TIMES IN THIS PAST YEAR. NOT UNTIL THE TAIL LIGHTS REFUSED TO WORK DID WE DO THE DEEPER INVESTIGATION OF THE WIRE LOOM. IN THE MEAN TIME WE HAVE LOST OUR CRUSE CONTROL AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE MIGHT TURN UP. I'VE CONTACTED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY PERSONALLY ABOUT THE SITUATION. THEY SAY UNTILL FORCED BY A RECALL THERE IS NOTING THEY CAN DO FOR OUR SITUATION. OUR 93 FORD IS WELL OVER IT'S WARRENTY AND WITH 120,000 MILES AND NO RECALL TO DATE FOR MY PROBLEM DESCRIBED ABOVE. To whom it may concern. I have a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck. I have recently experienced the problem with the fuel system described in NHTSA Campaign ID Number 93V125000, NHTSA Action Number EA93001. This defect in the fuel pump causes the fuel drawn from the front tank to be returned to the rear tank. In short time the rear tank capacity can be exceeded causing fuel to spill from filler neck into the environment. Not only is this an environmental issue, it is a major safety issue as the fuel could ignite causing a fire that could easily result in severe injury or death. I have contacted Sanderson Ford in Phoenix asking that they repair this problem under the conditions of the recall and they are refusing to do so. I am asking that NHTSA instruct Ford to repair this problem as described in the recall. Again, this problem causes raw fuel to spill from the tank into the environment causing both and environmental issue along with a major safety issue. The fuel could easily catch fire resulting in severe injury or death.

Started hearing fuel pump stay engaged after turning engine off and could smell fuel during these times. Fueled up rear tank next morning and when I arrived at work and got out with truck still running there was gasoline pouring out from the front gas tank spiller neck at an alarming rate. When I selected the front tank it stopped flowing. Next day while in traffic at light When I engaged the gas pedal and fished tailed due to a puddle off gasoline dumping from truck onto rd. In front of rear tires. Started having poor acceleration and seemed as if truck wasn’t getting enough fuel or lacked power. Still has open recall so I brought it to Ford dealership explain the issue and also that cross fuel flow in those year trucks has a recall for same issue. Trucks been there 2 weeks and I’m being told it’s to be $2700 to replace both fuels pumps and shuttle valves. I showed them video of gas pouring from the truck and showed them fords recall and remedy for issue. They said they will not fix this problem in truck and I must cover cost. This after knowing of recall and seeing a video of fuel spillage will not cover cost. This is unsafe I feel as any source of ignition may cause a fire from immediate gas spillages. Ford said they would over do repair if 12 years from start of warranty date of truck or Under 150k . Truck is under that mileage . But refuse to make repair under prior recall even though this is extremely dangerous situation to be driving truck. Trucks still in shop and I’m awaiting for a response from Ford corporate as I contacted them to explain issue in hopes they would honor repair as I feel it necessary for the safety of myself, family, and those others whom may be hurt in the event an accident occurs.

I JUST GOT THIS TRUCK USED AND REALIZED IT HAS DUAL GAS TANKS BUT ONLY THE REAR GAS TANK WORKS. I PUT GAS IN BOTH TANKS NOT KNOWING THAT I REALIZED AFTER THAT THE FRONT TANK DOESN'T WORK... THE NEXT MORNING I NOTICED GAS SPILLING OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK BECAUSE SOME OF THE GAS FROM THE REAR TANK IS GOING INTO THE FRONT 1 AND MAKING IT OVERFLOW.

FUEL IS SPEWING FROM THE GAS TANK /CAP WHERE YOU FILL IT. WHEN THE TRUCK IS PARKED THE GAS CAP HISSES LIKE IT IS PRESSURIZED. GAS IMMEDIATELY STARTS POURING OUT OF THE GAS CAP AND EVEN SPEWS OUT. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 00V424000 - FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR ISSUES - TRUCK LOSES POWER DUE TO LACK OF FUEL AND NOW IT IS TRANSFERRING FUEL BETWEEN TANKS WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK TRUCK TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN AUGUST 2017 WHEN I DISCOVERED THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRUCK IS PART OF THE RECALL BUT THAT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER FROM FORD. IT IS NOW JANUARY 2018 AND STILL NO PART. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH FUEL TANKS AND FUEL PUMPS WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE TRUCK ALONG WITH HAVING THE ENGINE REBUILT. THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THESE ISSUES BUT I AM AT LOSS OF WHAT TO DUE AT THIS POINT SINCE FORD IS NOT PROVIDING THE PARTS. I FEEL THAT THE FUEL CHECK VALVES SHOULD BE REPLACED BY FORD SINCE I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THEM MYSELF. I DISCOVERED THE RECALL ON MY OWN IN AUGUST 2017. 1993 FORD F-150 4WD FRONT BUMPER CAN OFF, ALL BOLTS MISSING ONLY 1 U-CLIPS PRESENT AND IT IS BROKEN. YESTERDAY (7/22/2010) I HAD TRAVELED TO MY SISTERS HOME, ABOUT 2 MILES FROM MY HOME. ON RETURNING I PARKED MY TRUCK AS USUAL AND WENT INTO MY HOUSE. ABOUT I HOUR LATER AS COMING OUT OF MY HOUSE AND HEADING FOR THE GARAGE, THAT WAS WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT BUMPER WAS TILTED DOWN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I WENT TO THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK AND WAS ABLE TO LIFT THE FRONT BUMPER UP OFF THE FRAME. IT WAS JUST HANGING ON. I'VE CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS MY PROBLEM. THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE FRAME NEXT TO THE CONTROL ARM BRACKET HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKEN IN HALF RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNDRIVABLE. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER (NOT THE DEARLER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED IN 1995) FOR INSPECTION OF THE FRAME AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRAME IS VERY THIN AND RUSTED ABOUT A FOOT ON EACH SIDE OF THE BREAK. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD AND HAVE TALKED WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT PROGRESSIVE FORD TOM BYERS AND ALSO HIS FORD REP NANCY CROWE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRUCK WAS TOO OLD AND HAD TOO MANY MILES ON IT AND THEREFOR FORD WOULD NOT REPAIR IT. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN THAT I FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT INVOLVED THE MAIN STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN AS IT HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR BEEN ABUSED AND WAS TOLD BY NANCY THAT SHE DIDN'T CARE AS THE ORIGINAL FACTORY WARRENTY HAD LONG SINCE EXPIRED. I STATED THAT A TRUCK FRAME SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 9 YEARS WITHOUT DISINTEGRATING AND WAS AGAIN TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO COMPENSATION FROM FORD ON REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT AND I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE TRUCK SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. The contact stated that while replacing the brake master cylinder, the contact noticed that there was brake fluid leaking onto a connector. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AND OPENED THE THROTTLE WIDE OPEN. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND EVENTUALLY FADED AND FAILED. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL (ENGINE RACED) AND SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. HUSBAND RESTARTED ENGINE ABOUT 1/2 HOUR LATER, THE ENGINE DID NOT RACE. HUSBAND LIMPED THE TRUCK HOME AND ON THE WAY WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION ONLY ONCE. CONFIRMED IT WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL,SINCE THE PEDAL PULLED AWAY FROM HUSBAND'S FOOT. The contact stated that while inspecting the fuel tanks, he noticed that fuel had transferred from one tank to the other, nearly causing the tank to overfill. The local dealer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle was not covered under the recalls because the VIN was not included; however, the VIN tool indicated that the VIN was included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. 1. REAR LEAF SPRING SUPPORT ON 1993 FORD F-150. THE DESIGN OF THE REAR LEAF SPRING SUPPORT, LET WATER AND SALT COLLECT IN THE SUPPORT. CAUSING RAPID RUST AND FAILURE OF SUPPORT. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF HUMAN LIFE IF THIS PART WOULD FAIL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE FORD DEALER HERE IN TOWN TOLD ME AT THE PARTS COUNTER, WHEN I BOUGHT THIS PART THAT THEY SELL 5 OR 7 SUPPORTS A WEEK. THIS TELLS ME THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. IN THE REAR LEAF SPRING SUPPORT. 2. THE EMISSION SYSTEM HAS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN WHICH LETS EXHAUST FUMES INTO THE CAB. THE PIPE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE HEADS OF THE ENGINE, IS SUPPOSE TO PUMP FRESH AIR INTO THE EXHAUST TO HELP IT BURN CLEANER. BUT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THIS YEAR IS THAT IT SPLITS APART AND RUST CAUSING FUMES INTO THE CAB. THESE PROBLEMS ARE NOT JUST MINE. I KNOW MEN WHO HAVE THE SAME YEAR TRUCK 1993 FORD F-150 WITH A V-8 302 IN IT THAT HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM. THIS POINTS OUT A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS BOTH SAFETY FOR HUMAN BUT ALSO EMISSION. The recall 00S57 was not done. This was my husbands vehicle and he has since passed away and when I went to get renewal plates for Kentucky since I have moved I saw the recalls and called Ford dealer. They can fix the 05S28 speed control system modification recall which I have scheduled, however they advised parts for repair are no longer available from Ford. I have not had an issue as yet, however since the recall is engine and gas related which could cause a fire, I would like to get the vehicle fixed. Please advise. Thank you

Regarding Ford Safety Recall 93S65 4X4 Transfer Case comes out of gear while in 4X4 High and will roll away, pops out of gear while in reverse, shift indication lights fail to report proper placement of the transfer-case, at start up the Vehicle shifts on its own, Shift from 2H to 4H results in Chatter, the Vehicle is currently stuck in 4L. I found a recall publication (TSB 92-01-08 (Excerpt) Touch-Drive ESOF Operation) that is specifically related to this problem Safety Recall 93S65. Affected Vehicles: 1993 Model F- Series and Bronco 4x4 Vehicles. I went to DCH Ford in thousand Oaks for direction, I spoke with [XXX] (Service Director) [XXX], [XXX] regarding this recall. UPON CONTACTING FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE EACH TIME TRUCK TAKEN IN, HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE HAVE BEEN "NO" RECALLS OF ANY TYPE ON OUR VEHICLE EXCEPT FOR ONE TO CHECK THE BOLTS ON THE FRONT BUMPER. THE FOLLOWING HAVE SHOWN OCCASSIONAL PROBLEMS SINCE 1993, BUT HAVE CONSISTENTLY BECOME WORSE WITH THE AGE/MILEAGE OF TRUCK: INTERMITTEN WIPERS DO NOT WORK, DIMMER LIGHT AND OTHER GAUGES DO NOT WORK IN DASH. THE TRANSMISSION HAS A LOT OF BACKLASH/KICK WHEN PUTTING INTO GEAR. THE IGNITION AND ALTERNATOR ARE CONSISTENTLY GETTING WORSE, SOMETIMES IT TAKES TURNING THE KEY UP TO TEN OR MORE TIMES TO GET THE TRUCK TO START. CURRENTLY, ONCE THE ENGINE GETS HOT, THE TRUCK SPITS AND SPUTTERS, ALMOST KILLING WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN AND THEN ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. THE TRUCK RECENTLY HAD A COMPLETE TUNE-UP AND REPLACEMENT OF ALL PARTS WITH FORD AUTHORIZED PARTS.
